⁸ David and his men raided the Geshurites, the Girzites, and the Amalekites. Their territory extends from Telaim to Shur and Egypt.

²⁰ He took all the flocks and herds, which they drove before the other livestock, and he said, This is David's spoil.

¹⁷ When the Philistines heard that they had anointed David king over Israel, all the Philistines went up to seek David, but David heard about it and went down to the stronghold. ¹⁸ Now the Philistines had come, and they spread out in the Valley of Rephaim. ¹⁹ David asked the LORD: "Shall I attack the Philistines? Therefore the name of the place was called Baal Pharisim. ²¹ The Philistines abandoned their idols there, and David and his army carried them off. ²² Once again the Philistines came up and spread out in the Valley of Rephaim. ²³ When David inquired of the LORD, he said, “You shall not go up. Circle around behind them, and attack them in front of the mulberry trees. ²⁴ When you hear the sound of marching coming from the tops of the balsam trees, then be sure to act quickly, since the LORD will have gone out ahead of you to cut down the Philistine army. ²⁵ David did so, as the LORD commanded him, and struck the Philistines all the way from Geba to Gezer.

² He struck Moab, and measured them with the line, making them to lie down on the ground; and he measured two lines to put to death, and one full line to keep alive. The Moabites became servants to David, and brought tribute.

¹¹ He said, "If the Arameans prove too strong for me, then you are to help me. If the Ammonites prove too strong for you, then I will come help you.

¹⁴ When the Ammonites saw that Aram had fled, they fled from before Abishai and entered the city. Then Joab returned from fighting against the Ammonites and came to Jerusalem.

²⁶ And Joab fought against Rabbah of the Ammonites, and he captured the royal city. ²⁷ And Joab sent messengers to David, and said, I have fought against Rabbah, and taken the City of Waters. ²⁸ "Assemble the rest of the troops. Surround the city and capture it. Otherwise I will capture the city. Then it will be named after me." ²⁹ So David mustered his entire army and marched on Rabbah, attacked it, and captured it. ³⁰ He took the crown of their king from off his head; and its weight was a talent of gold, and in it were precious stones; and it was set on David's head. He brought a great quantity of plunder out of the city. ³¹ He brought out the people who were in it, and put them to work with saws, and iron picks, and iron axes, and to labor at the brick kiln. And he did the same to all the cities of the children of Ammon. David and all the people returned to Jerusalem.

¹¹ King David dedicated these also to the LORD, along with the silver and gold that he had taken from all the nations, from Edom, Moab, the sons of Ammon, the Philistines, and Amalek.
