¹² Then Solomon said, "The LORD has said that he would dwell in the thick cloud.

²¹ The people stayed at a distance, and Moses came near to the thick darkness where God was.

² And the LORD said to Moses, "Tell your brother Aaron that he should not enter at any time into the sanctuary behind the curtain in front of the atonement cover that is on the ark, so that he might not die, because I appear in the cloud over the atonement cover.

¹¹ And you came near and stood at the foot of the mountain; and the mountain burned with fire unto the midst of heaven, with darkness, clouds, and thick darkness.

²² "These commands the LORD declared in a loud voice to your entire assembly on the mountain from out of the fire and dark clouds, and nothing more was added. He inscribed them on two tablets of stones and gave them to me.

¹ Then Solomon said, "The LORD has said that he would dwell in the thick cloud. ² But I have built you a house and home, a place for you to dwell in forever.” ³ Then the king turned around and blessed the entire assembly from Israel while they were standing. ⁴ And he said, Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, who has with His hands fulfilled that which He spoke with His mouth to my father David, saying, ⁵ From the day that I brought My people out of the land of Egypt, I have not chosen a city out of any of the tribes of Israel to build a house for My name to be there, and I have not chosen a man to be leader over My people Israel. ⁶ But I have chosen Jerusalem for My name to be there, and I have chosen David to be over My people Israel. ⁷ "My father David had his heart set on building a Temple for the name of the LORD the God of Israel. ⁸ But the LORD said to David my father, Because it was in your heart to build a house for my name, you did well that it was in your heart. ⁹ Nevertheless, you are not to build the temple, but your son who will be born to you shall build a temple for my name.' ¹⁰ "the LORD has kept the promise he made. I have taken my father David's place. I sit on the throne of Israel as the LORD promised. I have built the Temple for the name of the LORD God of Israel. ¹¹ There I have set the ark, in which is the covenant of the LORD, which he made with the children of Israel."

⁸ Smoke went up from his nostrils. A raging fire came out of his mouth. Glowing coals were kindled by it. ⁹ He lowered the heavens and came down; and darkness was under his feet. ¹⁰ He rode upon a cherub and flew; he soared upon the wings of the wind. ¹¹ But he made darkness his covering, His tent around him was dark water in clouds of air.

² Cloud and thick darkness are surrounding him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne.

¹⁵ Truly you are a God who hides himself, O God and Savior of Israel.

¹⁸ For you have not come to a mountain that can be touched and that is burning with fire; to darkness, gloom, and storm;
