¹ Solomon finished building the LORD’s Temple, the royal palace, and everything else he wanted to build. ² the LORD appeared to Solomon a second time, as he had appeared to him in Gibeon. ³ the LORD said to him, "I have heard your prayer and your plea which you have made before me. I have consecrated this house which you have built, by putting my name there forever. My eyes and my heart will always be there. ⁴ And you, if you walk at my face, as David your father walked in integrity of heart and in straightness; to work according to all I misvah you and guard my statutes and my judgments; ⁵ then I will establish the throne of your kingdom over Israel forever, as I promised to David your father, saying, 'There shall not fail from you a man on the throne of Israel.' ⁶ But if you or your descendants abandon me, and do not keep my commandments and statutes that I have given to you, and if you go away, serve other gods, and worship them, ⁷ then I will cut off Israel out of the land which I have given them; and I will cast this house, which I have made holy for my name, out of my sight; and Israel will be a proverb and a byword among all peoples. ⁸ Though this house is so high, yet everyone who passes by it will be astonished and hiss; and they will say, 'Why has the LORD done this to this land, and to this house?' ⁹ and they shall answer, 'Because they forsook the LORD their God, who brought their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and laid hold of other gods, and worshiped them, and served them. Therefore the LORD has brought all this disaster on them.'" ¹⁰ At the end of twenty years, in which Solomon had built the two houses, the LORD's house and the king's house ¹¹ after which King Solomon gave Hiram 20 cities in the land of Galilee, because King Hiram of Tyre had provided Solomon with as much cedar, cypress timber, and gold that he wanted. ¹² But when Hiram came from Tyre to see the towns that Solomon had given him, he was not pleased with them. ¹³ He said: "What sort of towns are these you have given me, my brother?" So they were named the land of Cabul, to this day. ¹⁴ And Hiram sent to the king sixscore talents of gold. ¹⁵ This is the account of the forced labor that King Solomon conscripted to build the house of Yahweh and his house, the Millo, the walls of Jerusalem, Hazor, Megiddo, and Gezer. ¹⁶ Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, had attacked and captured Gezer, burned it down, killed the Canaanites who lived in the city, and then gave it as a dowry for his daughter, Solomon's wife. ¹⁷ And Solomon built Gezer, and lower Beth-choron, ¹⁸ And Baalath and Tadmor in the desert, in the land. ¹⁹ and all the store cities that Solomon had, and cities for his chariots, and cities for his horsemen and all that his lust was to build in Jerusalem and Lebanon and in all the land of his kingdom. ²⁰ And all the people who were left of the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites, who were not of the sons of Israel, ²¹ their children who remained after them in the land, whom the Israelites were not able to completely destroy, Solomon conscripted them for forced labor, until this very day. ²² But Solomon did not choose a slave out of the sons of Israel, for they were the men of war, and his servants, and his rulers, and his commanders, and the commanders of his chariots, and his horsemen. ²³ There were 550 chief officers who supervised Solomon's activities and managed the staff that was doing the work. ²⁴ But Pharaoh's daughter came up from the city of David to her house which Solomon had built for her: then he built Millo. ²⁵ Three times a year Solomon offered burnt offerings and fellowship offerings on the altar he had built to the LORD. He also burned incense to the LORD. He finished building the Temple. ²⁶ King Solomon also built a fleet of ships at Ezion-Geber which is near Elath on the shore of the Red Sea in the land of Edom. ²⁷ Hiram sent his servants, who were experienced seamen, in the sea-force with Solomon's men. ²⁸ They sailed as far as Ophir and brought back 31,500 pounds of gold for Solomon.

³⁷ The foundation of the LORD’s house was laid in the fourth year, in the month Ziv.

⁵¹ Thus all the work that king Solomon worked in the house of the LORD was finished. Solomon brought in the things which David his father had dedicated, the silver, the gold and the vessels, and put them in the treasuries of the house of the LORD.

¹¹ after which King Solomon gave Hiram 20 cities in the land of Galilee, because King Hiram of Tyre had provided Solomon with as much cedar, cypress timber, and gold that he wanted.

¹⁹ and all the store cities that Solomon had, and cities for his chariots, and cities for his horsemen and all that his lust was to build in Jerusalem and Lebanon and in all the land of his kingdom.

¹¹ Thus Solomon finished the house of the LORD, and the king's house: and he successfully completed all that came into Solomon's heart to make in the house of the LORD, and in his own house.

⁴ I made me great works, I built me houses, and planted vineyards,

¹⁰ I neither withheld anything from my eyes that they desired, nor did I deprive any pleasure from my heart. My heart rejoiced in all my toil, for this was my reward from all my toil.

⁹ Better is the sight of the eyes than the wandering of the desire. This also is vanity and a chasing after wind.

⁵ The LORD appeared to Solomon one night in a dream and told him, "Ask me for whatever you want and I'll give it to you."

⁹ The LORD was angry with Solomon, because his heart had turned away from the LORD, the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice,

⁷ That night, God appeared to Solomon and said to him, “Ask for what you want me to give you.” ⁸ Solomon said to God, "You have shown great loving kindness to David my father, and have made me king in his place. ⁹ Now, LORD God, your promise to my father David is fulfilled, because you have made me king over a people as numerous as the dust of the earth. ¹⁰ Now give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people; for who can judge this great people of yours?” ¹¹ Then God said to Solomon, "Because this was with your heart and you did not ask for wealth, possessions, honor, and the lives of your enemies, and also did not ask for long life, but have asked for wisdom and knowledge that you might judge my people over whom I have made you king, ¹² Wisdom and knowledge are given to you; and I will give you wealth and honour, such as no king has had before you or ever will have after you.

¹² Then the LORD appeared to Solomon at night and said to him, "I have heard your prayer and have chosen this place for myself as a house of sacrifice.

¹¹ For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth and the sea, and all that is in them, and he rested on the seventh day. Therefore, the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

³⁸ The censers of these who have sinned at the cost of their lives, let them be made into gilded leafing plating for the altar; because they presented them before the LORD, they are holy; and they will be a sign for the Israelites.'"

¹² a land which the LORD your God cares for; the eyes of the LORD your God are constantly on it from the beginning of the year to the end of the year.

⁵ ¶ But ye shall seek the place which the LORD your God shall choose out of all your tribes to put his name there for his habitation, and thou shalt go there.

¹¹ then to the place which the LORD your God shall choose, to cause His name to dwell there, you must bring all that I command you: your burnt offerings and your sacrifices, your tithes and the wave offering of your hand and all your chosen vows which you vow to the LORD.

²¹ "If the place the LORD your God chooses to put his name is too far away from you, you may slaughter an animal from the herds or flocks that the LORD has given you. Eat as much as you want in your city. I have commanded you to do this.

¹¹ And thou shall rejoice before LORD thy God, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, and thy man-servant, and thy maid-servant, and the Levite who is within thy gates, and the sojourner, and the fatherless, and the widow, who are in th

¹⁰ When the priests went out from the holy place, the cloud filled the house of the LORD. ¹¹ and the priests could not stand to do their service because of the cloud; for the glory of the LORD had filled the house of the LORD.

²⁹ that your eyes be open toward this house night and day - toward the place of which you say, My name is there: to hearken to the prayer your servant prays toward this place:

⁵ "Turn back, and tell Hezekiah the prince of my people, 'Thus says the LORD, the God of David your father, "I have heard your prayer. I have seen your tears. Look, I will heal you. On the third day, you shall go up to the house of the LORD.

⁴⁰ "Finally, my God, may your eyes be open and your ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place.

¹⁵ Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayer of this place. ¹⁶ "I have chosen and declared this Temple holy so that my name may be placed there forever. My eyes and my heart will always be there.

¹⁷ LORD, you heard the desire of the afflicted; you will strengthen them, you will listen carefully,

¹⁹ But God hath heard me; and considered the voice of my prayer.

¹ I love the LORD because he has heard my prayer for mercy;

¹³ For the LORD has chosen Zion; he has desired it for his dwelling. ¹⁴ "This is my resting place forever. Here I will live, for I have desired it.

⁹ You have stolen (my) heart, my sister bride! You have stolen my heart with one glance from your eyes, with one ornament from your necklaces. ¹⁰ How beautiful is your love, my sister, my bride. How much better is your love than wine, and the fragrance of your perfume than all kinds of spices.

¹ Then the LORD said to me, "Even if Moses and Samuel stood before me, my heart would not be to this people. Send them away from my sight, and let them go out.

²³ At the beginning of your petitions the commandment went out, and I have come to tell you; for you are greatly beloved. Therefore consider the matter, and understand the vision.

⁹ So then, this is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name,

⁴² I knew that you always hear me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing by, that they may believe that you sent me."

³¹ and said, 'Cornelius, your prayer has been heard. God has remembered your gifts to the poor

¹⁴ This is the confidence that we have toward him: that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us.

¹ Abram was ninety-nine years old. the LORD appeared to him and said: "I am God Almighty. Walk before me and be blameless.

¹ "Indeed, if you diligently obey the LORD your God to carry out all his commands that I'm giving you today, then the LORD your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth.

¹⁴ And if you go on in my ways, keeping my laws and my orders as your father David did, I will give you a long life.

²⁵ Now therefore, O LORD, the God of Israel, keep with your servant David my father what you have promised him, saying, There will not fail you a man in my sight to sit on the throne of Israel, if only your sons take heed to their way, to walk before me as you have walked before me.

⁴ When Solomon was old, his wives turned away his heart after other gods; and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as the heart of David his father was.

⁶ So Solomon did evil in the eyes of the LORD and did not fully follow after the LORD as David his father.

³⁸ And it will be, if you will listen to all that I command you and will walk in my ways and do what is right in my eyes, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as David my servant did. That I will be with you and will build you a sure house as I built for David and will give Israel to you.

⁸ and tore the kingdom away from the house of David and gave it you and yet you have not been as my servant David, who kept my commandments and who followed me with all his heart to do only what was right in my eyes,

⁵ For David did that which is right in the eyes of the LORD, and did not turn aside from all that He commanded him all the days of his life, except in the matter of Uriah the Hittite.

¹⁷ »If you will be faithful to me as your father David was, do everything I command, and obey my laws and rules, ¹⁸ "I will establish your royal dynasty just as I said in a promise to your father David, when I said: 'You will never fail to have an heir ruling over Israel.'"

¹¹ My foot has held fast to his steps. I have kept his way, and not turned aside. ¹² "I have not departed from the command of his lips. I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.

² He who walks blamelessly and does what is right, and speaks truth in his heart;

¹ Davidic. Vindicate me, LORD, because I have walked in integrity; I have trusted in the LORD without wavering.

¹¹ But I will walk in my truthfulness; redeem me and be merciful to me.

⁹ He who walks in integrity walks securely, but he who perverts his ways shall be found out.

⁷ A righteous man walks in integrity; blessed are his children after him.

¹⁸ Whoever walks blamelessly is kept safe; but one with perverse ways will fall suddenly.

⁷ 'Thus sayeth the LORD of Hosts: If thou wilt walk in my ways, and keep my watch: thou shalt rule my house, and keep my courts, and I will give thee place among these that stand here.

⁶ They were both upright in the sight of God, blamelessly observing all the Lord's commands and requirements.

¹ Now then, brothers, you learned from us how you ought to live and to please God, as in fact you are doing. We ask and encourage you in the Lord to do so even more. ² For you know what instructions we gave you by the authority of the Lord Jesus.

¹² When your days are full and you lie down with your ancestors, I will raise up your offspring after you who will go out from your body, and I will establish his kingdom.

¹⁶ Your house and your kingdom shall endure forever before you; your throne shall be established forever." '"

⁴ So that the Lord may give effect to what he said of me, If your children give attention to their ways, living uprightly before me with all their heart and their soul, you will never be without a man to be king in Israel.

¹² As for this house, which thou art building, if thou wilt walk in my statutes, and execute my judgments, and keep all my commandments, walking in them, I will fulfil my word to thee, which I spoke to David thy father.

¹⁵ And he said, "Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, which hath fulfilled with his hand, that he spake with his mouth unto David my father, saying,

²⁰ the LORD has carried out his promise which he had made; I have risen in place of David my father, and I sit on the throne of Israel as the LORD promised, and I have built the house for the name of the LORD the God of Israel.

⁹ »‘You will have a son who will be a man of peace and rest, and I will give him rest from all his enemies on every side. His name will be Solomon (peace), and I will grant Israel peace and quiet during his reign. ¹⁰ "'He is the one who will build a house for my name. He will be my son, and I will be his father. I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel for a very ong time.'"

²⁸ I will keep my mercy for him for ever; my agreement with him will not be changed. ²⁹ I will establish his dynasty forever, and his throne as long as heaven endures. ³⁰ If his sons forsake my law and do not walk in my judgments, ³¹ if they profane my statutes; and do not keep my commands, ³² then I will punish their sin with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes. ³³ But I will not annul My mercy from him, and I will not be false in My faithfulness. ³⁴ I will not break my covenant, nor alter what my lips have uttered. ³⁵ Once for all I have sworn by my holiness; that I will not be false to David. ³⁶ His offspring will endure forever, and his throne as the sun before me. ³⁷ It will be established forever like the moon, the faithful witness in the sky." Selah. ³⁸ But you have rejected and spurned. You have been angry with your anointed. ³⁹ You have renounced the covenant of your servant. You have defiled his crown in the dust.

¹¹ The LORD made an oath to David from which he will not retreat: "One of your sons I will set in place on your throne. ¹² If your sons keep my covenant and my statutes that I will teach them, then their sons will also sit on your throne forever."

¹⁵ However, just as all of the good things have come about that the LORD your God promised, so also the LORD will bring upon you all of the threats until he has destroyed you from possessing this good land that he has given you. ¹⁶ If you transgress the covenant of the LORD your God, which he commanded to you, and you go and serve other gods and bow down to them, the LORD's anger will be kindled against you, and you will perish quickly from the good land that he has given to you."

³⁰ Therefore the LORD the God of Israel says, 'I said indeed that your house, and the house of your father, should walk before Me forever'. But now the LORD says, 'Far be it from Me. Those who honour Me I will honour, and those who despise Me shall be despised.

¹⁴ "'I will be his father. He will be my son. When he does wrong I will correct him just as parents correct children. ¹⁵ But my mercy I will not take away from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I removed from before my face. ¹⁶ Your house and your kingdom shall endure forever before you; your throne shall be established forever." '"

⁴ When Solomon was old, his wives turned away his heart after other gods; and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as the heart of David his father was. ⁵ And Solomon followed Ashtaroth the goddess of the Sidonians, and Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites. ⁶ So Solomon did evil in the eyes of the LORD and did not fully follow after the LORD as David his father. ⁷ Then Solomon built a high place to Chemosh the idol of Moab, and to their king the idol of the children of Ammon. ⁸ and, thus, did he for all his foreign wives,—who burned incense and offered sacrifices unto their gods. ⁹ The LORD was angry with Solomon, because his heart had turned away from the LORD, the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice, ¹⁰ And he commanded him concerning this word not to go after other gods: and he watched not what the LORD commanded.

⁹ "And you, Solomon my son, know the God of your father and serve him with a whole heart and a willing mind, for the LORD searches all hearts and understands every plan and all thoughts. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you abandon him, he will reject you forever.

¹⁹ "But if you turn away and abandon my statutes and my commands that I have given you, and if you walk away to serve other gods and worship them, ²⁰ »I will uproot Israel from the land I gave them. I will reject this Temple that I declared holy for my name. I will make it an example and an object of ridicule for all the people of the world. ²¹ And as for this house, which was exalted, all who pass by it will be appalled and will say, 'Why has the LORD done thus to this land and to this house?' ²² "They will answer their own question: 'They abandoned the LORD the God of their ancestors, who brought them out of Egypt. They adopted other gods, worshiped, and served them. That is why he brought this disaster on them.'"

² and he went out to meet Asa, and said to him, "Hear me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin. The LORD is with you, while you are with him; and if you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will forsake you.

³⁰ If his sons forsake my law and do not walk in my judgments,

³² then I will punish their sin with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes.

²⁴ "'Do not defile yourselves in any of these things: for in all these the nations which I am casting out before you were defiled. ²⁵ The land was defiled. Therefore I punished its iniquity, and the land vomited out her inhabitants. ²⁶ "'Live by my standards, and obey my rules. Neither you nor any foreigner should ever do any of these disgusting things. ²⁷ (for all these abominations have the men of the land done, that were before you, and the land became defiled); ²⁸ »‘If you make the land unclean, it will vomit you out as it has vomited out the people who were there before you.

²⁶ I call Heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that you shall soon utterly perish from off the land which you are crossing over Jordan to possess. You shall not prolong your days upon it, but shall utterly be destroyed.

³⁷ And you will become a wonder and a name of shame among all the nations where the Lord will take you.

²⁶ And they went and served other gods and bowed down to them, gods whom they did not know them and he had not allotted to them. ²⁷ Therefore the LORD's anger burned against this land, to bring on it all the curses that are written in this book. ²⁸ Yahweh rooted them out of their land in anger, in wrath, and in great indignation, and thrust them into another land, as it is today.”

³ the LORD said to him, "I have heard your prayer and your plea which you have made before me. I have consecrated this house which you have built, by putting my name there forever. My eyes and my heart will always be there.

²⁰ And the LORD rejected all the seed of Israel, and afflicted them, and gave them into the hand of the plunderers, until He had cast them out from His presence. ²¹ for he rent Israel away from the house of David, and they made Jeroboam son of Nebat, king,—and Jeroboam thrust away Israel from following the LORD, and caused them to commit a great sin. ²² The Israelites practiced all the sins that Jeroboam had practiced, and never wavered from them ²³ until the Lord removed them from his presence, as he spoke by the ministry of all his servants the prophets. Now when Israel was removed from their own land to Assyria, where they continue to this day;

⁹ set fire to the LORD's temple, the royal palace, and all the houses of Jerusalem. He even set fire to the lavish homes.

²¹ where the king of Babylon executed them in the land of Hamath. And so Judah was transported into exile from the land.

²⁰ »I will uproot Israel from the land I gave them. I will reject this Temple that I declared holy for my name. I will make it an example and an object of ridicule for all the people of the world.

¹⁹ They burned God's house, and broke down the wall of Jerusalem, and burned all its palaces with fire, and destroyed all of its valuable vessels.

¹ But when Sanballat heard that we were building the wall, he was angry, and was very indignant, and mocked the Jews. ² And he spoke before his brothers and the army of Samaria and said, What are these feeble Jews doing? Will they fortify themselves? Will they sacrifice? Will they finish in a day? Will they revive the stones out of the heaps of rubbish, seeing they are burnt? ³ Now Tobiah the Ammonite was by him, and he said, "What they are building, if a fox climbed up it, he would break down their stone wall." ⁴ “Hear, our God; for we are despised. Turn back their reproach on their own head. Give them up for a plunder in a land of captivity.

¹⁴ You made our defeat a proverb among the nations so that people shake their heads at us.

¹⁵ You will leave your name to my chosen ones as a curse. The Sovereign Sovereign LORD will put you to death, but to his servants he will give another name.

⁴ "'"Do not trust in deceptive words. They say: 'This is the Temple of the LORD, the Temple of the LORD, and the Temple of the LORD. ⁵ For if you thoroughly amend your ways and your pursuits, and actually execute judgment between man and man: ⁶ if you do not oppress the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow, and do not shed innocent blood in this place, neither walk after other gods to your own hurt: ⁷ then I will let you dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your ancestors forever and ever. ⁸ "Look, you're trusting in deceptive words that cannot benefit. ⁹ Will you steal, murder, commit adultery, swear falsely, burn incense to Baal, and walk after other gods that you have not known, ¹⁰ and then come and stand before Me in this house which is called by My name, and say, We are delivered to do all these abominations? ¹¹ "Has this house, called by my name, become a den of robbers in your sight? Behold, I, even I, have seen it," declares the LORD. ¹² "But go to my place in Shiloh, where I made my name dwell from the beginning, and see what I did to it because of the wickedness of my people Israel. ¹³ Now, because you have done all these things," declares the LORD, "I spoke to you over and over again, but you didn't listen. I called to you, but you didn't answer. ¹⁴ Just as I did to Shiloh, I'll do to the house in which you trust and which is called by my name, the place that I gave to you and your ancestors. ¹⁵ And I will drive you from my presence, as I have driven out your brethren, the whole seed of Ephraim.

⁹ "'"I will make them a horrifying sight to all the kingdoms of the earth. They will be a disgrace and an example. They will become something ridiculed and cursed wherever I scatter them.

⁶ then I will make this house like Shiloh, and this city I will make a curse for all the nations of the earth.'" '"

¹⁸ Micah the Morasthite prophesied in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah and spoke to all the people of Judah, saying, Thus hath the LORD of the hosts said; Zion shall be plowed like a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the temple mount as the high places of a forest.

¹³ He burned down the LORD’s Temple, the royal palace, and all the houses in Jerusalem. Every important building was burned down.

⁶ He has broken down his dwelling place like the garden; he has ruined his appointed feasts; the LORD has made them forget in Zion festival and Sabbath, and he has despised in his anger king and priest. ⁷ The LORD has rejected his altar, he has disowned his sanctuary, and has given up into the hand of the enemy the walls of her palaces. They have made a shout in the house of the LORD, as in the day of a solemn assembly.

¹⁵ All that pass by clap their hands at thee; they hiss and wag their head at the daughter of Jerusalem: 'Is this the city that men called the perfection of beauty, the joy of the whole earth?' ¹⁶ All your enemies have opened their mouth wide against you; they hiss and gnash the teeth; they say, We have swallowed her up; certainly this is the day that we looked for; we have found, we have seen it!

²¹ "Say to the house of Israel, 'Thus says the Sovereign LORD: "Look! I will be profaning my sanctuary, the pride of your strength and the delight of your eyes and the object of your own affection; and your sons and your daughters whom you left behind will fall by the sword,

²⁷ Thus you will say to them. The Sovereign LORD says thus: As I live, surely those who are in the waste places will fall by the sword and he who is in the open field I will give to the beasts to be devoured and those who are in the strongholds and in the caves will die of the pestilence. ²⁸ And I will make the land a desolation and a wasteland, and the pride of its strength will come to an end, and the mountains of Israel will be desolate with no one traveling through them." ' ²⁹ And they shall know that I am the LORD, when I have made the land desolate and a waste because of all their abominations which they have done.

¹⁷ Let the priests, the ministers of the LORD, weep between the porch and the altar, and let them say, "Spare your people, LORD, and do not give your heritage to mockery, a byword among the nations. Why should they say among the peoples, 'Where is their God?'"

¹² Therefore, because of you, Zion will be plowed up like a field, and Jerusalem will become heaps of rubble, and the temple Mount like a forest high place."

² “Do you see all these things?” He replied. “Truly I tell you, not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be toppled.”

²⁴ They will fall by the edge of the sword, and will be led captive into all the nations. Jerusalem will be trampled down by the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.

²⁴ "All the nations will say: Why has the LORD done thus to this land? Why this great outburst of anger?' ²⁵ Then they will answer themselves, 'Because they've abandoned the covenant of their LORD, the God of their ancestors that he had made with them when he brought them out of Egypt. ²⁶ And they went and served other gods and bowed down to them, gods whom they did not know them and he had not allotted to them.

²¹ And as for this house, which was exalted, all who pass by it will be appalled and will say, 'Why has the LORD done thus to this land and to this house?'

¹¹ Our holy and beautiful Temple where our ancestors praised you has been burned to the ground. All that we valued has been ruined.

⁸ I'll make this city into a desolate place and an object of scorn. All who pass by it will be astonished and will scoff because of all its wounds.

⁸ »Many nations will pass by this city. They will say to one another: Why has the LORD done thus to this great city? ⁹ Then shall it be answered: Because they have broken the covenant of the LORD their God, and have worshipped and served strange gods.'"

²⁸ "Is this man Jehoiachin a despised and shattered jar, a vessel no one wants? Why were he and his descendants hurled away, thrown into a land that they didn't know?

¹⁷ "Edom will become an object of horror. Everyone who passes by her will be horrified and will scoff because of all her wounds.

¹³ Because of the anger of the LORD she won't be inhabited, but will be utterly devastated. Everyone who passes by Babylon will be horrified and will scoff because of all her wounds.

¹² He has confirmed his words, which he spoke against us, and against our rulers who ruled us, by bringing on us a great calamity; for under the whole heaven such has not been done as has been done on Jerusalem.

²⁵ Then they will answer themselves, 'Because they've abandoned the covenant of their LORD, the God of their ancestors that he had made with them when he brought them out of Egypt.

²² "They will answer their own question: 'They abandoned the LORD the God of their ancestors, who brought them out of Egypt. They adopted other gods, worshiped, and served them. That is why he brought this disaster on them.'"

¹⁰ For go over to the coasts of Cyprus and look, and send to Kedar and consider very closely, and see if there has been a thing like this: ¹¹ Has a nation changed its gods, which yet are no gods? But my people have changed their glory for what does not profit. ¹² Be appalled, O heavens, at this, and shudder; be utterly desolate," declares the LORD. ¹³ "For my people have committed two evils: they have forsaken me, the spring of living waters, and cut them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.

¹⁹ Your wickedness will chastise you, and your apostasies will reprove you. Therefore know and see that it is evil and bitter, your forsaking of the LORD, your God, and fear of me is not in you," declares the Lord, the LORD Almighty.

¹⁹ When the people ask, 'Why has the LORD our God done all this to us?' you shall say to them, 'Just as you have forsaken me and served foreign gods in your land, so you will serve strangers in a land that is not yours.'"

⁷ I'll forsake my house, I'll abandon my inheritance. I'll give the beloved of my heart into the hand of her enemies. ⁸ My inheritance has become like a lion in the forest to me. She roars at me; therefore, I hate her.

¹⁰ "When you tell the people all these things, they will ask you: 'Why does the LORD threaten us with all these disasters? What have we done wrong? How have we sinned against the LORD our God?'" ¹¹ Then say to them, 'It is because your ancestors abandoned me,' declares the LORD. 'They followed other gods, served them, worshipped them, abandoned me, and didn't keep my Law. ¹² And you have done more evil than your fathers. For, behold, you each one walk after the stubbornness of his evil heart, without listening to Me. ¹³ I'll throw you out of this land into a land neither you nor your ancestors have known. There you will serve other gods day and night, and I'll show you no favor.'

⁷ All those who found them have devoured them. And their foes have said, 'We are not guilty, because they have sinned against the LORD, the true pasture, even the LORD, the hope of their ancestors.'

¹⁶ All your enemies have opened their mouth wide against you; they hiss and gnash the teeth; they say, We have swallowed her up; certainly this is the day that we looked for; we have found, we have seen it! ¹⁷ the LORD has done what he purposed. He has fulfilled his word that he commanded in the days of long-ago. He has thrown down and has not pitied. And he has caused the enemy to rejoice over you. He has exalted the horn of your adversaries.

¹³ But it hath happened because of the sins of her prophets, the iniquities of her priests, that had shed in the midst of her the blood of the righteous. ¹⁴ they reeled blind in the streets. They are defiled with blood, so that not any are able to touch their garments. ¹⁵ “Go away!” they cried to them. “Unclean! Go away! Go away! Don't touch! When they fled away and wandered, men said among the nations, “They can't live here any more.”

¹⁷ Son of man, when the house of Israel dwelt in their own land, they defiled it by their own way and by their doings: their way was before me as the uncleanness of a removed woman. ¹⁸ And I poured out my fury upon them for the blood that they had shed upon the land, and because they had defiled it with their idols. ¹⁹ I scattered them among the nations, and they were dispersed through the countries. I judged them according to their way and according to their deeds. ²⁰ "Wherever they went among the nations, they dishonored my holy name. People said about them: 'These are the LORD's people, yet they had to leave his land.'

⁴ And stretched out My hand against Judah, And against all inhabiting Jerusalem, And cut off from this place the remnant of Baal, The name of the idolatrous priests, with the priests, ⁵ those who worship the army of the sky on the housetops, those who worship and swear by the LORD and also swear by Malcam,

¹ Solomon finished building the LORD’s Temple, the royal palace, and everything else he wanted to build.

¹ Now after the twenty years in which Solomon built the house of the Lord, and his own house, ² Solomon also built the cities that Huram had given to him, and he settled the Israelites in them. ³ Solomon attacked Hamath Zobah and conquered it. ⁴ And he built Tadmor in the wilderness, and all the store cities that he built in Hamath. ⁵ Also he built Upper Beth Horon, and Lower Beth Horon, fortified cities, with walls, gates, and bars; ⁶ He also rebuilt Baalath and all the storage cities that he owned. He built all the cities for his chariots, all the cities for his warhorses, and whatever else he wanted to build in Jerusalem, Lebanon, or the entire territory that he governed. ⁷ And all the people that were left of the Hittites, Amorites, Perezites, Hivites and Jebusites, which were not of the children of Israel - ⁸ from the descendants who were left over after them in the land, whom the Israelites had not destroyed, Solomon conscripted them as forced labor until this day. ⁹ But Solomon made no servants of the sons of Israel for his work, but they were men of war, and chief of his captains, and rulers of his chariots and of his horsemen. ¹⁰ And these were the chief of King Solomon's officers, two hundred and fifty who bore rule over the people. ¹¹ Solomon brought up the daughter of Pharaoh out of the City of David to the house that he had built for her; for he said, "My wife shall not dwell in the house of David king of Israel, because the places where the ark of the LORD has come are holy." ¹² Then Solomon offered holocausts to the Lord upon the altar of the Lord which he had built before the porch, ¹³ as was the daily requirement, to offer up according to the commandments of Moses for Sabbaths, new moon festivals, and the three annual feasts: the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the Feast of Weeks, and the Feast of Booths. ¹⁴ And according to the order of David his father, he appointed the divisions of the priests to their service, and the Levites to their charges, to praise and minister before the priests, as the duty of every day required; and the gatekeepers by their divisions at every gate; for so David the man of God had commanded. ¹⁵ And they did not turn aside from the king's command as to the priests and the Levites in regard to any matter, and to the treasures. ¹⁶ All of Solomon's work was carried out from the day the foundation of the LORD's Temple was laid until it was completed. the LORD's Temple was now complete. ¹⁷ Then Solomon went to Ezion Geber, and to Elath near the sea in the land of Edom. ¹⁸ And Huram sent him, by his servants, ships and experienced seamen, who went with the servants of Solomon to Ophir and came back with four hundred and fifty talents of gold, which they took to King Solomon.

⁷ So they set apart Kedesh in Galilee in the hill country of Naphtali, Shechem in the hill country of Ephraim, and Kiriath Arba (that is, Hebron) in the hill country of Judah.

⁶ Now therefore please order that cedars of Lebanon be cut for me. My servants will work with your servants, and I will pay your servants whatever wages you set, because you know there is no one among us who knows how to cut timer like the Sidonians do." ⁷ When Hiram heard the words of Solomon, he rejoiced greatly, and said, “Blessed is the LORD today, who has given to David a wise son to rule over this great people.” ⁸ Then Hiram sent Solomon the following message: "I received your message. I am ready to do what you ask. I will provide the cedars and the pine trees. ⁹ My servants will bring it down from Lebanon to the sea. And I will make floats for them in the sea to go to the place that you tell me. And I will spread them out there; and you shall take them up. And you shall do what I desire, to give food for my house. ¹⁰ So Hiram supplied Solomon with all the cedar and pine logs he wanted.

⁸ Send me also cedar trees, fir trees, and algum trees, out of Lebanon; for I know that your servants know how to cut timber in Lebanon. My servants shall be with your servants, ⁹ "Prepare large quantities of timber, because this Temple I intend to build will be large and magnificent. ¹⁰ Behold, I will give to your servants, the cutters who cut timber, twenty thousand cors of beaten wheat, twenty thousand baths of barley, twenty thousand baths of wine, and twenty thousand baths of oil.”

¹⁶ and we will cut wood out of Lebanon, as much as you need. We will bring it to you in rafts by sea to Joppa; then you shall carry it up to Jerusalem.”

² Solomon also built the cities that Huram had given to him, and he settled the Israelites in them.

³⁴ Balaam said to the angel of the LORD, "I have sinned because I did not know that you were standing to meet me in the road. Now, if it is displeasing to you, I will turn back."

³ But his father and mother said to him, "Is there not a wife among the daughters of your relatives, or among all our people, that you must take a wife from the uncircumcised Philistines?" But Samson said to his father, "Take her for me because she pleases me."

²⁷ Then it turns eastward to Beth-dagon and touches Zebulun and the valley of Yiptah-El to the north to Beth Emeck and Neiel; it continues to Cabul from the north,

¹ Now Hiram, king of Tyre, hearing that Solomon had been made king in place of his father, sent his servants to him; for Hiram had ever been a friend to David. ² Solomon sent this message to Hiram:

⁹ Thus says the Lord; For three transgressions of Tyre, and for four, I will not turn away from it, because they shut up the prisoners of Solomon into Edom, and remembered not the covenant of brethren.

²⁸ They sailed as far as Ophir and brought back 31,500 pounds of gold for Solomon.

¹⁰ Then she gave the king 9,000 pounds of gold, a vast quantity of spices, and precious stones. No spices ever came again that were comparable to those that the queen of Sheba gave to King Solomon.

¹⁴ Each year King Solomon received about twenty-five tons of gold.

²¹ All king Solomon's drinking vessels were of gold, and all the vessels of the House of the Forest of Lebanon were of pure gold. None were of silver, because it was considered of little value in the days of Solomon.

³³ Then Horam, king of Gezer, came up to help Lachish, and Joshua smote him and his people until none of them were left.

¹ When Jabin king of Hazor heard of it, he sent to Jobab king of Madon, to the king of Shimron, to the king of Achshaph,

¹⁰ They didn't drive out the Canaanites who lived in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwell in the midst of Ephraim to this day, and became servants to do forced labour.

¹¹ Within the territories of Issachar and Asher, Manasseh possessed Beth Shan and Ibleam, along with their surrounding towns, as well as Dor (the one on the coast), Endor, Taanach, Megiddo, and their surrounding towns.

³⁶ Adamah, Ramah, Hazor,

²¹ Of the tribe of Ephraim, Sichem one of the cities of refuge, with the suburbs thereof in mount Ephraim, and Gazer,

²⁹ Neither did Ephraim drive out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwelt in Gezer among them.

² So the LORD sold them into the hand of Jabin king of Canaan, who reigned in Hazor. The commander of his army was Sisera, and he was living in Harosheth Haggoyim.

¹⁹ Kings came; they fought; then the kings of Canaan fought in Taanach by the waters of Megiddo; they took no gain of silver.

⁶ All the men of Shechem and Bethmillo got together and went to the sacred oak tree at Shechem, where they made Abimelech king.

²⁰ but if not, let fire come out from Abimelech, and devour the lords of Shechem, and Beth Millo; and let fire come out from the lords of Shechem, and from Beth Millo, and devour Abimelech."

⁹ David occupied the fortress, naming it the City of David. He built up the surroundings from the terrace ramparts inward.

¹² Baana the son of Ahilud, in Taanach and Megiddo, and all Beth Shean which is beside Zarethan, beneath Jezreel, from Beth Shean to Abel Meholah, as far as beyond Jokmeam;

¹³ King Solomon conscripted laborers from throughout Israel. The work force numbered 30,000 men.

³⁸ In the eleventh year, in the month Bul, which is the eighth month, the house was finished throughout all its parts, and according to all its specifications. So he spent seven years building it.

¹⁰ At the end of twenty years, in which Solomon had built the two houses, the LORD's house and the king's house

¹⁶ Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, had attacked and captured Gezer, burned it down, killed the Canaanites who lived in the city, and then gave it as a dowry for his daughter, Solomon's wife. ¹⁷ And Solomon built Gezer, and lower Beth-choron,

²¹ their children who remained after them in the land, whom the Israelites were not able to completely destroy, Solomon conscripted them for forced labor, until this very day.

²⁴ But Pharaoh's daughter came up from the city of David to her house which Solomon had built for her: then he built Millo.

²⁷ This is the reason that he rebelled against the king: when Solomon built the Millo, he closed the gap of the city of David his father.

²⁷ But when Ahaziah king of Judah saw it, he fled by the way of Beth Haggan. And Jehu pursued after him, and said, Slay him also. So one shot him in the chariot at the Ascent of Gur, which is by Ibleam. And he fled to Megiddo, and died there.

²⁰ His own officials plotted against him and killed him at the House of the Mound on the road that goes down to Silla.

²⁹ In the days of Pekah king of Israel, Tiglath Pileser king of Assyria came and took Ijon, Abel Beth Maacah, Janoah, Kedesh, Hazor, Gilead, and Galilee, all the land of Naphtali; and he carried them captive to Assyria.

²⁹ During his reign, Pharaoh Neco, king of Egypt, marched out toward the Euphrates River to meet the king of Assyria. King Josiah went out to engage him in battle, but Pharaoh Neco killed him at Megiddo as soon as he saw him. ³⁰ So his servants drove him dead in a chariot from Megiddo, and they brought him to Jerusalem and buried him in his tomb. Then the people of the land took Jehoahaz the son of Josiah and anointed him and made him king in place of his father.

⁶⁷ In the hill country of Ephraim they were given Shechem (a city of refuge), and Gezer,

⁴ Afterwards, war broke out against the Philistines at Gezer, where Sibbecai the Hushathite killed Sippai, one of the descendants of the Rephaim, defeating the Philistines.

¹ Now after the twenty years in which Solomon built the house of the Lord, and his own house,

²² Josiah would not turn his face from him, but disguised himself to fight against him, and did not listen to the words of Necho from the mouth of God; and came to fight in the valley of Megiddo.

¹⁸ Do good in your good pleasure to Zion: build you the walls of Jerusalem.

¹¹ In that day the mourning in Jerusalem shall be great, like the mourning of Hadad-rimmon in the valley of Megiddo.

¹ Solomon made an alliance with the king of Egypt by marrying his daughter. He brought her to live in David's City until he finished building his palace, the Temple, and the wall around Jerusalem.

⁸ As to his house where he lived, the other court was within the porch, as this work was. Solomon also made a house for Pharaoh's daughter whom he had taken, like this porch.

¹⁰ the LORD threw them into confusion before Israel. They were killed in a great battle at Gibeon. They were chased along the road that goes up to Beth-horon. They were slaughtered all the way to Azekah, and Makkedah.

³ It proceeded westward to the territory of the Japhletites as far as the territory of lower Beth-horon, then toward Gezer, ending at the Mediterranean Sea.

⁴⁴ Eltekeh, Gibbethon, Baalath,

²² Kibzaim, and Beth Horon, with their pasturelands.

⁴ And he built Tadmor in the wilderness, and all the store cities that he built in Hamath.

¹¹ So the Egyptians put slave masters over them in order to oppress them through forced labor. They built Pithom and Rameses as supply (storage) cities for Pharaoh.

²⁶ Solomon had forty thousand stalls for his chariot horses and twelve thousand cavalry horses. ²⁷ And those officers provided provisions for king Solomon, and for all who came to king Solomon's table, every man in his month; they let nothing be lacking. ²⁸ Each governor also supplied his share of barley and straw as needed for the chariot horses and the work animals.

²⁶ Solomon gathered chariots and horses; he had fourteen hundred chariots and twelve thousand horses. He stationed them in the cities of the chariots and with the king in Jerusalem.

¹⁴ And Solomon collected chariots, and horsemen, and he had fourteen hundred chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen. Those he left in the chariot cities; but the people were with the king in Jerusalem.

¹⁹ the land of the Kenites, the Kenizzites, the Kadmonites, ²⁰ the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim, ²¹ the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites and the Jebusites."

²³ "My messenger will go ahead of you. I will lead you to the land of the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Canaanites, Hivites, and Jebusites. I will wipe them out.

²⁸ I'll send hornets ahead of you and they'll drive out the Hivites, the Canaanites, and the Hittites before you. ²⁹ I shall not drive them out from before you in one year lest the land should become desolate, and the field animal be many against you. ³⁰ Little by little I will drive them out from before you until you are fruitful and take possession of the land. ³¹ And I will stretch your bounds from the Red Sea even to the Sea of the Philistines, and from the desert to the river. For I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hand, and you shall drive them out before you. ³² You shall not make a covenant with them or with their gods. ³³ "Do not allow them to live in your land for they will make you sin against me. If you serve their gods it will be a snare to you."

¹¹ Obey what I am commanding you today. I'll drive out from before you the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites. ¹² Be very careful not to make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land to which you are going, so they won't be a snare among you.

¹ "When the LORD your God brings you into the land that you are entering to possess, he will drive out many nations before you: the Hittites, Girgashites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites, seven nations who are more numerous and stronger than you. ² and when the LORD your God delivers them up before you and you defeat them, then you must utterly destroy them. You must make no covenant with them nor show mercy to them, ³ "Do not intermarry with them. Do not give your daughters to their sons or take their daughters for your sons.

²⁵ And he said, "Cursed be Canaan, a slave of slaves he shall be to his brothers." ²⁶ He also said: "Blessed be the LORD, the God of Shem! May Canaan be the slave of Shem.

⁶³ And the Jebusite dwelt in Jerusalem, and the children of Juda could not destroy them; and the Jebusites dwelt in Jerusalem to this day.

¹² Yet the sons of Manasseh were not able to occupy these cities, but the Canaanites wanted to live in that land.

¹⁶ And the children of Joseph said, The hill-country is not enough for us: and all the Canaanites living in the valley have iron war-carriages, those in Beth-shean and its towns as well as those in the valley of Jezreel. ¹⁷ And Joshua said to the house of Joseph, to Ephraim and Manasseh, "You are many people and have great power; you will not have one allotment only; ¹⁸ "The mountain will be yours. For it is a wood, and you will cut it down. The farthest limits will be yours. You will drive out the Canaanites, though they have iron chariots, and though they are strong."

²¹ And the children of Judah did not make the Jebusites who were living in Jerusalem go out; the Jebusites are still living with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem.

²⁷ Manasseh did not drive out the inhabitants of Beth Shean, Taanach, Dor, Ibleam or Megiddo and their surrounding settlements; the Canaanites continued to dwell in that land. ²⁸ And whenever Israel became strong, they put the Canaanites to forced work, without driving them out completely. ²⁹ Neither did Ephraim drive out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwelt in Gezer among them. ³⁰ Zebulun didn't drive out the inhabitants of Kitron or Nahalol, but the Canaanites lived among them and became subject to forced labour. ³¹ Asher did not drive out the inhabitants of Acco, Sidon, Ahlab, Aczib, Helbah, Aphik, or Rehob, ³² And the Asherite dwelt in the midst of the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land; for they drove not out ³³ Naphtali did not drive out the inhabitants of Beth Shemesh or Beth-anath, but lived in the midst of the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land; the inhabitants of Beth Shemesh and Beth-anath became forced labor for them. ³⁴ The Amorites pressed the descendants of Dan to the hill country, and they did not allow them to come down to the plain; ³⁵ And the Amorites desired to dwell in Mount Heres in Aijalon and in Shaalbim; yet when the hand of the house of Joseph prevailed, they made them tributaries.

²⁰ And the Lord was very angry with Israel, and said, Because this nation has forsaken My covenant which I commanded their fathers, and has not listened to My voice,

¹⁵ This is the account of the forced labor that King Solomon conscripted to build the house of Yahweh and his house, the Millo, the walls of Jerusalem, Hazor, Megiddo, and Gezer.

³ Now these are chiefs of the country who dwelt in Jerusalem and the cities of Juda. There dwelt every man in his possession in their cities, Israel, the priest and the Levites and the Nathinims and the children of Solomon's servants:

³⁴ They did not destroy the peoples, as the LORD commanded them, ³⁵ but they mingled with the nations and learned their works, ³⁶ They served their idols, which became a snare to them.

³⁹ "'If your brother has grown poor among you, and sells himself to you; you shall not make him to serve as a slave.

¹¹ He said, This is what the king who shall reign over you will do: he will take your sons and appoint them to serve with his chariots and to be his horsemen, and they will run before his chariots; ¹² He will appoint for himself commanders of thousands and commanders of fifties, and those to do his plowing and to reap his harvest, and those to make weapons of war and the equipment for his chariots.

¹ And king Solomon reigned over all Israel: ² Now, these, were his chief officers of state,—Azariah son of Zadok, the priest; ³ Elihoreph and Ahijah, sons of Shisha, scribes,—Jehoshaphat son of Ahilud, the recorder; ⁴ And Benaiah son of Jehoiada, over the army,—and Zadok and Abiathar priests; ⁵ Azariah the son of Nathan was over the governors, and Zabud the son of Nathan was a priest, an advisor to the king. ⁶ Ahishar was over the palace, and Adoniram the son of Abda was over the forced labor. ⁷ And Solomon had twelve officers over all Israel who provided provisions for the king and his household. Each man had to make provision for a month in the year. ⁸ These are their names: Ben Hur, in the hill country of Ephraim; ⁹ Ben Deker, in Makaz, in Shaalbim, Beth Shemesh, and Elon Beth Hanan; ¹⁰ Ben-Hesed was in the Arubbot; Socoh and all the land of Hepher were his. ¹¹ Ben Abinadab, in all the height of Dor (he had Taphath the daughter of Solomon as wife); ¹² Baana the son of Ahilud, in Taanach and Megiddo, and all Beth Shean which is beside Zarethan, beneath Jezreel, from Beth Shean to Abel Meholah, as far as beyond Jokmeam; ¹³ Ben-Geber, in Ramoth-Gilead, has the small towns of Jair son of Manasseh, which [are] in Gilead; he has a portion of Argob that [is] in Bashan, sixty great cities [with] wall and brazen bar. ¹⁴ Ahinadab son of Iddo [has] Mahanaim. ¹⁵ Ahimaaz, in Naphtali (he also took Basemath the daughter of Solomon as wife); ¹⁶ Baana, son of Hushai in Asher and in Aloth: ¹⁷ Jehoshaphat son of Paruah in Issachar: ¹⁸ Shimei son of Ela, in Benjamin; ¹⁹ Geber the son of Uri, in the land of Gilead, the country of Sihon king of the Amorites and of Og king of Bashan; and he was the only officer who was in the land. ²⁰ The people of Judah and Israel were as numerous as the grains of sand on the seashore. They ate and drank and were very happy. ²¹ And Solomon ruled over all the kingdoms from the River to the land of the Philistines, and to the border of Egypt. They brought tribute, and served Solomon all the days of his life. ²² Solomon's daily provisions were 30 kors of fine flour, 60 kors of meal, ²³ Also needed were ten stall-fed cattle, twenty pasture-fed cattle, and one hundred sheep, besides deer, gazelles, roebucks, and fowl (cuckoo). ²⁴ For he had dominion on this side of the river, and he was at peace on all sides round about. ²⁵ As long as he lived, the people throughout Judah and Israel lived in safety. Each family had its own grapevines and fig trees. ²⁶ Solomon had forty thousand stalls for his chariot horses and twelve thousand cavalry horses. ²⁷ And those officers provided provisions for king Solomon, and for all who came to king Solomon's table, every man in his month; they let nothing be lacking.

⁹ But Solomon made no servants of the sons of Israel for his work, but they were men of war, and chief of his captains, and rulers of his chariots and of his horsemen. ¹⁰ And these were the chief of King Solomon's officers, two hundred and fifty who bore rule over the people.

¹⁶ He placed three thousand three hundred foremen there to supervise their work.

¹⁸ He conscripted 70,000 of them to do heavy work, 80,000 to quarry in the hill country, and 3,600 men to supervise the people.

¹⁰ And these were the chief of King Solomon's officers, two hundred and fifty who bore rule over the people.

¹⁵ This is the account of the forced labor that King Solomon conscripted to build the house of Yahweh and his house, the Millo, the walls of Jerusalem, Hazor, Megiddo, and Gezer. ¹⁶ Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, had attacked and captured Gezer, burned it down, killed the Canaanites who lived in the city, and then gave it as a dowry for his daughter, Solomon's wife.

¹¹ Solomon brought up the daughter of Pharaoh out of the City of David to the house that he had built for her; for he said, "My wife shall not dwell in the house of David king of Israel, because the places where the ark of the LORD has come are holy."

⁵ Hezekiah worked hard. He rebuilt all the broken sections of the wall. He built the towers taller and built another wall outside the city wall. He strengthened the Millo in the City of David, and made plenty of weapons and shields.

¹⁴ "Three times a year you shall celebrate a festival for me. ¹⁵ You will keep the Feast of Unleavened Bread; for seven days you will eat unleavened bread, as I commanded you at the appointed time, the month of Abib, because in it you came out from Egypt, and no one will appear before me empty-handed. ¹⁶ Also the Feast of Harvest, the first fruits of your labor, of what you sow in the field. Also the Feast of Ingathering, at the end of the year, at your gathering your work from the field. ¹⁷ Three times in the year all your males shall appear before the Sovereign LORD.

⁷ "Aaron must burn sweet incense on this altar every morning when he takes care of the lamps.

²³ Three times in the year your men shall appear before the Sovereign LORD, the God of Israel.

¹⁶ Three times in the year all of your males shall appear before the LORD your God at the place that he will choose, at the Feast of Unleavened Bread and at the Feast of Weeks and at the Feast of Booths, and they shall not appear before the LORD empty-handed.

³⁸ In the eleventh year, in the month Bul, which is the eighth month, the house was finished throughout all its parts, and according to all its specifications. So he spent seven years building it.

¹³ The sons of Amram: Aaron and Moses. Aaron was set apart, he and his descendants from generation to generation, to consecrate the most holy things, to offer sacrifices before the LORD, to minister before him and to pronounce blessings in his name as long as they live.

¹² Then Solomon offered holocausts to the Lord upon the altar of the Lord which he had built before the porch, ¹³ as was the daily requirement, to offer up according to the commandments of Moses for Sabbaths, new moon festivals, and the three annual feasts: the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the Feast of Weeks, and the Feast of Booths.

¹⁶ All of Solomon's work was carried out from the day the foundation of the LORD's Temple was laid until it was completed. the LORD's Temple was now complete.

¹⁶ But when he became strong his heart was lifted up to [his] downfall; and he transgressed against the LORD his God, and went into the temple of the LORD to burn incense upon the altar of incense. ¹⁷ But Azariah the priest went in after him with four score priests of the LORD that were bold men. ¹⁸ And they stood against King Uzziah and said to him, "It is not for you, Uzziah, to burn incense to the LORD, but it is for the priests, the descendants of Aaron, who are consecrated to burn incense. Go out of the sanctuary, for you have acted unfaithfully. There will be no honor for you from the LORD God." ¹⁹ Then Uzziah was angry. He had a censer in his hand to burn incense, and while he was angry with the priests, the leprosy broke out on his forehead before the priests in the LORD's house, beside the altar of incense. ²⁰ And Azariah the chief priest, and all the priests, looked upon him, and, behold, he was leprous in his forehead, and they thrust him out from thence; yea, himself hasted also to go out, because the LORD had smitten him. ²¹ So King Uzziah was leprous until the day of his death, and he lived in a separate house as a leper, for he was cut off from the house of the LORD. And Jotham his son was over the house of the king, judging the people of the land.

¹¹ My sons, do not be negligent now. For the LORD has chosen you to stand before Him, to serve Him, and that you should minister to Him and burn incense.

²⁵ because they have abandoned me and burned incense to other gods so as to provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands. And my wrath will be poured out on this place and it will not be quenched.'

³⁵ They set out from Abronah and camped at Ezion Geber.

⁸ So we bypassed our relatives, the descendants of Esau who live in Seir. We turned through the Arabah desert from Elath, and from Ezion-geber we traveled the desert road to Moab."

⁴⁸ Jehoshaphat made ships of Tarshish to go to Ophir for gold, but they didn't go; for the ships wrecked at Ezion Geber.

²² It was he that built Elath, and restored it to Judah, after the king slept with his fathers.

¹¹ Solomon brought up the daughter of Pharaoh out of the City of David to the house that he had built for her; for he said, "My wife shall not dwell in the house of David king of Israel, because the places where the ark of the LORD has come are holy." ¹² Then Solomon offered holocausts to the Lord upon the altar of the Lord which he had built before the porch,

⁶ Now therefore please order that cedars of Lebanon be cut for me. My servants will work with your servants, and I will pay your servants whatever wages you set, because you know there is no one among us who knows how to cut timer like the Sidonians do."

⁹ My servants will bring it down from Lebanon to the sea. And I will make floats for them in the sea to go to the place that you tell me. And I will spread them out there; and you shall take them up. And you shall do what I desire, to give food for my house.

¹¹ Hiram's ships that brought gold from Ophir, also brought from Ophir lots of algum wood and precious stones.

⁴⁹ Then Ahaziah son of Ahab said to Jehoshaphat, Let my servants go with your servants. And Jehoshaphat did not want it.

³⁶ He joined with him to build ships to go to Tarshish. And they built the ships in Ezion Geber. ³⁷ Then Eliezer, the son of Dodavah of Mareshah, prophesied against Jehoshaphat, saying, Because thou hast joined thyself with Ahaziah, the LORD shall destroy thy works. And the ships were broken, and they were not able to go to Tarshish.

²⁹ Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab. All these were sons of Joktan.

⁴ Three thousand talents of gold of Ophir, and seven thousand talents of fine silver, for the overlaying of the walls of the sanctuary;

¹⁸ And Huram sent him, by his servants, ships and experienced seamen, who went with the servants of Solomon to Ophir and came back with four hundred and fifty talents of gold, which they took to King Solomon.

¹⁰ The servants of Huram and the servants of Solomon, who brought gold from Ophir, also brought algum trees and precious stones.

²⁴ And put your gold in the dust, even your gold of Ophir among the rocks of the valleys;

¹⁶ "It cannot be bought with the gold from Ophir or with precious onyx or sapphire.

⁹ Kings' daughters are among your honorable women. At your right hand the queen stands in gold of Ophir.

¹² I will make a man more precious than fine gold, even man than the gold of Ophir.
