¹ The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, is from the LORD. ² All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the LORD weighs the spirits. ³ Commit your works to the LORD, and your thoughts shall be established. ⁴ The LORD has made all things for himself: Yes, even the wicked for the day of evil. ⁵ Everyone that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD: Though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished. ⁶ By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: And by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil. ⁷ When a man's ways please the LORD, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him. ⁸ Better is a little with righteousness than great revenues which are not right. ⁹ A man's heart devises his way: But the LORD directs his steps. ¹⁰ A divine sentence is in the lips of the king: His mouth does not transgress in judgment. ¹¹ A just weight and balance are the LORD's: All the weights of the bag are His work. ¹² It is an abomination to kings to commit wickedness: For the throne is established by righteousness. ¹³ Righteous lips are the delight of kings; and they love him that speaks right. ¹⁴ The wrath of a king is as messengers of death: But a wise man will pacify it. ¹⁵ In the light of the king's countenance is life; and his favor is as a cloud of the latter rain. ¹⁶ How much better it is to get wisdom than gold! And choosing to get understanding rather than silver! ¹⁷ The highway of the upright is to depart from evil: He that keeps his way preserves his soul. ¹⁸ Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. ¹⁹ It is better to be of a humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud. ²⁰ He that handles a matter wisely shall find good: And whoever trusts in the LORD, happy is he. ²¹ The wise in heart shall be called prudent: And the sweetness of the lips increases learning. ²² Understanding is a wellspring of life to him that has it: But the instruction of fools is folly. ²³ The heart of the wise teaches his mouth, and adds learning to his lips. ²⁴ Pleasant words are as a honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones. ²⁵ There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end are the ways of death. ²⁶ He that labors labors for himself; for his mouth craves it of him. ²⁷ An ungodly man digs up evil: And in his lips there is as a burning fire. ²⁸ A froward man sows strife: And a whisperer separates chief friends. ²⁹ A violent man entices his neighbor, and leads him into the way that is not good. ³⁰ He shuts his eyes to devise froward things: Moving his lips he brings evil to pass. ³¹ The whitish head is a crown of glory, if it be found in the way of righteousness. ³² He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that rules his spirit than he that takes a city. ³³ The lot is cast into the lap; but the whole disposing of it is of the LORD.

¹¹ And the LORD said to him, "Who has made man's mouth? Or who makes the mute, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? Have not I the LORD? ¹² Now therefore go, and I will be with your mouth, and teach you what you shall say."

¹⁵ And you shall speak to him, and put words in his mouth: And I will be with your mouth, and with his mouth, and will teach you what you shall do.

³¹ And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, that they said, "It is the king of Israel. Therefore they compassed about him to fight: But Jehoshaphat cried out, and the LORD helped him; and God moved them to depart from him.

²⁷ Blessed be the LORD God of our fathers, which has put such a thing as this in the king's heart, to beautify the house of the LORD which is in Jerusalem:

¹¹ O LORD, I beseech you, let now your ear be attentive to the prayer of your servant, and to the prayer of your servants, who desire to fear your name: And prosper, I implore you, your servant this day, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man. For I was the king's cupbearer.

¹⁷ LORD, You have heard the desire of the humble: You will prepare their heart, You will cause Your ear to hear:

³⁶ Incline my heart to Your testimonies, and not to covetousness.

⁹ A man's heart devises his way: But the LORD directs his steps.

²¹ There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand.

²⁴ Man's goings are of the LORD; how can a man then understand his own way?

¹ The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: He turns it wherever He will.

⁷ But the LORD said to me, "Do not say, 'I am a child': For you shall go to all whom I shall send you, and whatever I command you you shall speak. ⁸ Do not be afraid of their faces: For I am with you to deliver you", said the LORD. ⁹ Then the LORD put forth His hand, and touched my mouth. And the LORD said to me, "Behold, I have put My words in your mouth.

²³ O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: It is not in man who walks to direct his steps.

³⁹ And I will give them one heart, and one way, that they may fear Me forever, for the good of them, and of their children after them: ⁴⁰ And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from them, to do them good; but I will put My fear in their hearts, that they shall not depart from Me.

²⁶ I will also give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit within you: And I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh. ²⁷ And I will put My spirit within you, and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you shall keep My judgments, and do them.

¹⁹ But when they deliver you up, take no thought on how or what you shall speak: For it shall be given to you in that same hour what you shall speak. ²⁰ For it is not you who speaks, but the Spirit of your Father which speaks in you.

¹¹ And when they bring you to the synagogues, and to magistrates, and powers, take no thought how or what thing you shall answer, or what you shall say: ¹² For the Holy Spirit shall teach you in the same hour what you ought to say."

¹⁴ Therefore settle it in your hearts, not to meditate beforehand on what you shall answer: ¹⁵ For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to speak against nor resist.

¹⁶ But thanks be to God, which put the same earnest care into the heart of Titus for you.

¹³ For it is God which works in you both to will and to do His good pleasure.

¹⁶ Do not err, my beloved brethren. ¹⁷ Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, nor shadow of turning. ¹⁸ Of His own will He begot us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of first-fruits of His creatures.

¹³ And Samuel came to Saul: And Saul said to him, "Blessed be you of the LORD: I have performed the commandment of the LORD." ¹⁴ And Samuel said, "What then does this bleating of the sheep in my ears mean, and the bellowing of the oxen which I hear?"

⁷ But the LORD said to Samuel, "Do not look on his countenance, nor on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: For the LORD does not see as man sees; for man looks on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the heart."

² For he flatters himself in his own eyes, until his iniquity is found to be hateful.

²¹ For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and He ponders all his goings.

²⁵ There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end are the ways of death.

² Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: But the LORD ponders the hearts.

¹² if you say, "Behold, we did not know it"; does He that ponders the heart not consider it? And He that keeps your soul, does He not know it? And shall He not render to every man according to his works?

¹² There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet are not washed from their filthiness.

⁷ The way of the just is uprightness: You, Most Upright, do weigh the path of the just.

²² For though you wash yourself with nitre, and take much soap, yet your iniquity is marked before me", said the Lord GOD. ²³ "How can you say, 'I am not polluted, I have not gone after Baalim?' See your way in the valley, know what you have done: You are a swift dromedary traversing her ways;

¹⁰ I, the LORD, search the heart, I test the mind, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.

²⁷ TEKEL; you are weighed in the balances, and are found wanting.

¹⁵ And He said to them, "You are those who justify yourselves before men; but God knows your hearts: For that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.

⁹ Moreover He spoke this parable to certain ones who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: ¹⁰ "Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. ¹¹ The Pharisee stood and prayed in this manner with himself, 'God, I thank You that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.

⁷ What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. No, I had not known sin, but by the law: For I had not known lust, except that the law said, "You shall not covet." ⁸ But sin, taking occasion by the commandment, worked in me all manner of concupiscence. For without the law sin was dead. ⁹ For I was alive without the law once: But when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died.

¹⁸ "And to the angel of the church in Thyatira write; 'These things says the Son of God, Who has His eyes likened to a flame of fire, and His feet are like fine brass;

²³ And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am He which searches the inner reins and hearts: And I will give to every one of you according to your works.

⁸ I would seek to God, and to God would I commit my cause:

²⁸ You shall also decree a thing, and it shall be established to you: And the light shall shine on your ways.

⁴ Delight yourself also in the LORD: And He shall give you the desires of your heart. ⁵ Commit your way to the LORD; trust also in Him; and He shall bring it to pass.

²² Cast your burden upon the LORD, and He shall sustain you: He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.

⁶ In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.

⁵ Because Syria, Ephraim, and the son of Remaliah, have taken evil counsel against you', saying, ⁶ 'Let us go up against Judah, and vex it, and let us make a breach in it for us, and set a king in the midst of it, even the son of Tabeal:'" ⁷ Thus says the Lord GOD, "It shall not stand, neither shall it come to pass.

²⁵ Therefore I say to you, Take no thought for your life, what you shall eat, or what you shall drink; nor even for your body, what you shall put on. Is not the life more than food, and the body more than clothing? ²⁶ Behold the birds of the air: For they do not sow, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much better than they? ²⁷ Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit to his stature?1 Roman cubit is approximately 17.4 inches, or 44.2 centimeters. ²⁸ Then why do you have cares pertaining to clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they do not toil, neither do they spin: ²⁹ And yet I say to you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. ³⁰ Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is cast into the oven, shall He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? ³¹ Therefore take no thought, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or, 'What shall we drink?' or, 'With what shall we be clothed?' ³² (For the Gentiles seek after all these things:) For your heavenly Father knows that you have need of all these things. ³³ But you, seek first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added to you. ³⁴ Therefore take no thought concerning tomorrow: For tomorrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient for the day is the evil of it.

²² And He said to His disciples, "Therefore I say to you, Take no thought for your life, what you shall eat; neither for the body, what you shall put on.

⁶ Do not be full of care for anything; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

⁷ Casting all your care upon Him; for He cares for you.

³⁰ that the wicked is reserved to the day of destruction? They shall be brought forth to the day of wrath.

⁷ even everyone that is called by My name: For I have created him for My glory, I have formed him; yes, I have made him."

²¹ This people I have formed for Myself; they shall show {declare] forth My praise.

²² What if God, willing to show His wrath, and to make His power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction:

³⁶ For of Him, and through Him, and to Him, are all things: To whom be glory forever. Amen.

⁸ and "A stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense", even to those which stumble at the word, being disobedient: For that also they were appointed.

³ And through covetousness they shall make merchandise of you with feigned words: Whose judgment will now not linger for a long time, and their damnation does not slumber.

⁹ the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust for the day of judgment to be punished:

¹¹ "You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power: For You have created all things, and for Your pleasure they are and were created."

⁷ You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that takes His name in vain.

¹² Look on everyone that is proud, and bring him low; and tread down the wicked in their place.

¹⁶ These six things the LORD hates: Yes, seven are an abomination to Him: ¹⁷ A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

¹³ The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: Pride, and arrogance, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, I do hate.

²¹ Though hand join in hand, the wicked shall not be unpunished: But the seed of the righteous shall be delivered.

¹¹ Woe to the wicked! It shall be ill with him: For the reward of his hands shall be given him.

⁸ But to those who are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath, ⁹ tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that does evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;

⁶ But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble."

¹¹ And Abraham said, "Because I thought, surely the fear of God is not in this place; and they will slay me for my wife's sake.

⁹ Also I said, "It is not good that you do: Ought you not to walk in the fear of our God because of the reproach of the heathen our enemies?

¹⁵ But the former governors that had been before me were chargeable to the people, and had taken of them bread and wine, beside forty shekels of silver; yes, even their servants bore rule over the people: But so did not I, because of the fear of God.

¹ There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil. ² And there were born to him seven sons and three daughters. ³ His substance also was seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred she-donkeys, and a very great household; so that this man was the greatest of all the men of the east. ⁴ And his sons went and feasted in their houses, every one his day; and sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them. ⁵ And it was so, when the days of their feasting were gone about, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all: For Job said, "It may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually. ⁶ Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them. ⁷ And the LORD said to Satan, "From where come you? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, "From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it. ⁸ And the LORD said to Satan, "Have you considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that fears God, and eschews evil?

²⁸ And to man he said, "Behold, the fear of the LORD, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.

¹⁰ Mercy and truth have met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other.

¹⁶ A wise man fears, and departs from evil: But the fool rages, and is confident.

²⁷ The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

²⁸ Mercy and truth preserve the king: And his throne is upheld by mercy.

²⁷ Therefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable to you, and break off your sins by righteousness, and your iniquities by showing mercy to the poor; if it may be a lengthening of your tranquility."

¹⁸ Who is a God like You, that pardons iniquity, and passes by the transgression of the remnant of His heritage? He does not maintain His anger forever, because He delights in mercy. ¹⁹ He will return again, He will have compassion upon us; He will subdue our iniquities; and You will cast all their sins into the depths of the sea. ²⁰ You will perform the truth to Jacob, and the mercy to Abraham, which You have sworn to our fathers from the days of old.

⁴¹ But rather give alms of such things as you have; and behold, all things are clean to you.

² Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away: And every branch that bears fruit, He purges it, that it may bring forth more fruit.

⁹ and made no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.

¹ Therefore having these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

²¹ submitting yourselves to one another in the fear of God.

²² Seeing you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit to unfeigned love of the brethren, see that you love one another fervently with a pure heart:

⁴¹ And Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing with which his father blessed him: And Esau said in his heart, The days of mourning for my father are at hand; then I will slay my brother Jacob.

⁶ And the messengers returned to Jacob, saying, "We came to your brother Esau, and also he comes to meet you, and four hundred men with him." ⁷ Then Jacob was greatly afraid and distressed: And he divided the people that were with him, and the flocks, and herds, and the camels, into two bands;

²⁸ And he said, "Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel: For as a prince you have power with God and with men, and have prevailed."Israel; that is, A prince of God

⁴ And Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck, and kissed him: And they wept.

¹⁰ And the fear of the LORD fell on all the kingdoms of the lands that were all around Judah, so that they made no war against Jehoshaphat.

³¹ This also shall please the LORD better than an ox or bull that has horns and hoofs.

¹¹ The LORD said, "Truly it shall be well with your remnant; truly I will cause the enemy to entreat you well in the time of evil and in the time of affliction.

¹ Then Saul, ever breathing out threatening and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest, ² and desired from him letters to the synagogues of Damascus, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.

¹⁹ And when he had received food, he was strengthened. Then Saul was with the disciples which were at Damascus for some days. ²⁰ And immediately he preached Christ in the synagogues, that He is the Son of God.

³¹ What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

¹⁸ But I have all, and abound: I am full, having received from Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, a sweet smelling savor, an acceptable sacrifice, well-pleasing to God.

¹⁰ that you might walk worthy of the Lord as always pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;

²⁰ Children, obey your parents in all things: For this is well pleasing to the Lord.

²¹ make you perfect in every good work to do His will, working in you that which is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.

²² And whatever we ask, we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in His sight.

¹⁶ A little that a righteous man has is better than the riches of many wicked.

¹⁶ Better is little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure and trouble with it.

⁶ The getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a vanity tossed to and fro by those that seek death. ⁷ The robbery of the wicked shall destroy them; because they refuse to do judgment.

¹¹ As the partridge sits on eggs, and does not hatch them; so he who gets riches not rightly, shall leave them in the midst of his days, and at his end shall be a fool."

¹⁰ Are there yet the treasures of wickedness in the house of the wicked, and the scant measure that is abominable?

⁶ But godliness with contentment is great gain. ⁷ For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. ⁸ And having food and clothing, let us be content with these. ⁹ But those that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.

²³ The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: And he delights in his way.

³⁰ There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD.

¹⁰ declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, 'My counsel shall stand, and I will do all My pleasure':

⁵ Is this not what my lord drinks from, and indeed by which he divines? You have done evil in so doing.' "

¹⁵ And Joseph said to them, "What deed is this that you have done? Do you not know that such a man as I can certainly divine?

¹⁸ And it shall be, when he sits on the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write him a copy of this law in a book out of that which is before the priests the Levites: ¹⁹ And it shall be with him, and he shall read in it all the days of his life: That he may learn to fear the LORD his God, to keep all the words of this law and these statutes, to do them: ²⁰ That his heart be not lifted up above his brothers, and that he turn not aside from the commandment, to the right hand side, or to the left: To the end that he may prolong his days in his kingdom, he, and his children, in the midst of Israel.

³ The God of Israel said, "the Rock of Israel spoke to me, He that rules over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God. ⁴ And he shall be as the light of the morning, when the sun rises, even a morning without clouds; as the tender grass springing out of the earth by clear shining after rain.

²⁸ And all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged; and they feared the king: For they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to do judgment.

⁶ Your throne, O God, is forever and ever: The scepter of Your kingdom is a right scepter. ⁷ You love righteousness, and hate wickedness: Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You with the oil of gladness above Your fellows.

¹ A Psalm for Solomon. Give the king Your judgments, O God, and Your righteousness to the king's son. ² He shall judge Your people with righteousness, and Your poor with judgment. ³ The mountains shall bring peace to the people, and the little hills, by righteousness. ⁴ He shall judge the poor of the people, He shall save the children of the needy, and shall break in pieces the oppressor.

⁴ The King's strength also loves judgment: You do establish equity, You execute judgment and righteousness in Jacob.

¹² It is an abomination to kings to commit wickedness: For the throne is established by righteousness. ¹³ Righteous lips are the delight of kings; and they love him that speaks right.

¹ Behold, a king shall reign in righteousness, and princes shall rule in judgment. ² And a man shall be like a hiding place from the wind, and a covert from the tempest; as rivers of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a great rock in a weary land.

⁵ "Behold, the days come", said the LORD, "that I will raise to David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth. ⁶ In His days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: And this is His name by which he shall be called: THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.

⁴ They have spoken words, swearing falsely in making a covenant: Thus judgment springs up as hemlock in the furrows of the field.

⁷ You who turn judgment to wormwood, and leave off righteousness in the earth,

¹² Shall horses run upon the rock? Will one plow there with oxen? For you have turned judgment into gall, and the fruit of righteousness into hemlock:

³⁵ You shall do no unrighteousness in judgment, in length, in weight, or in measure. ³⁶ Just balances, just weights, a just ephah, and a just hin, shall you have: I am the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt.

¹³ You shall not have in your bag diverse weights, a great and a small. ¹⁴ You shall not have in your house diverse measures, a great and a small. ¹⁵ But you shall have a perfect and just weight, a perfect and just measure shall you have: That your days may be lengthened in the land which the LORD your God gives you.

¹ A false balance is abomination to the LORD: But a just weight is His delight.

¹⁰ Diverse weights, and diverse measures, both of them alike are abomination to the LORD.

²³ Diverse weights are an abomination to the LORD; and a false balance is not good.

¹⁰ "You shall have just balances, and a just ephah, and a just bath.

⁷ He is a merchant, the balances of deceit are in his hand: He loves to oppress.

⁵ saying, "When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell corn? And the Sabbath, that we may set forth wheat, making the ephah small, and the shekel great, and falsifying the balances by deceit?new moon; or, month

¹¹ Shall I count them pure with the wicked balances, and with the bag of deceitful weights?

¹⁶ For all that do such things, and all that do unrighteously, are an abomination to the LORD your God.

¹⁸ Every purpose is established by counsel: And with good advice make war.

⁵ Take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.

⁹ He that turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.

¹⁴ The king that faithfully judges the poor, his throne shall be established forever.

⁴⁸ But he that did not know, and committed things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with a few stripes. For to whomever much is given, from him much shall be required: And to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask all the more.

¹¹ And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and He that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war.

⁵ Whoever privately slanders his neighbor, him I will cut off: He who has a high look and a proud heart I will not suffer. ⁶ My eyes shall be upon the faithful of the land, that they may dwell with me: He who walks in a perfect way, he shall serve me. ⁷ He who works deceit shall not dwell within my house: He who tells lies shall not tarry in my sight.

³⁵ The king's favor is toward a wise servant: But his wrath is against him that causes shame.

¹¹ He that loves pureness of heart, for the grace of his lips the king shall be his friend.

³¹ Then he said, "God do so and more also to me, if the head of Elisha the son of Shaphat shall stand on him this day. ³² But Elisha sat in his house, and the elders sat with him; and the king sent a man from before him: But ere the messenger came to him, he said to the elders, See you how this son of a murderer has sent to take away my head? Look, when the messenger comes, shut the door, and hold him fast at the door: Is not the sound of his master's feet behind him? ³³ And while he yet talked with them, behold, the messenger came down to him: And he said, "Behold, this evil is of the LORD; what should I wait for the LORD any longer?

¹¹ An evil man seeks only rebellion: Therefore a cruel messenger shall be sent against him.

¹² The king's wrath is as the roaring of a lion; but his favor is as dew upon the grass.

² The fear of a king is as the roaring of a lion: Whoever provokes him to anger sins against his own soul.

⁴ If the spirit of the ruler rises up against you, do not leave your place; for yielding pacifies great offenses.

¹³ Then Nebuchadnezzar in his rage and fury commanded to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Then they brought these men before the king. ¹⁴ Nebuchadnezzar spoke and said to them, "Is it true, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, you do not serve my gods, nor worship the golden image which I have set up? ¹⁵ Now if you are ready that at what time you hear the sound of the horn, flute, harp, sackbut trumpet, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of music, you fall down and worship the image which I have made; well: But if you do not worship, you shall be cast the same hour into the midst of a burning fiery furnace; and who is the God that shall deliver you out of my hands?" ¹⁶ Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered and said to the king, "O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not anxious to answer you in this matter. ¹⁷ If that is the case, our God Whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us out of your hand, O king. ¹⁸ But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods nor worship the golden image which you have set up." ¹⁹ Then Nebuchadnezzar was full of fury, and the expression of his face was changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego: Therefore he spoke, and commanded that they should heat the furnace seven times more than it was usually heated. ²⁰ And he commanded the most mighty men that were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and to cast them into the burning fiery furnace. ²¹ Then these men were bound in their coats, their trousers, and their hats, and their other garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace. ²² Therefore because the king's commandment was urgent, and the furnace exceedingly hot, the flame of the fire slew those men who took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. ²³ And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace. ²⁴ Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonished, and rose up in haste, and spoke, and said to his counselors, "Did we not cast three men bound into the midst of the fire?" They answered and said to the king, "True, O king." ²⁵ He answered and said, "Look, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they are not hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God."

²⁷ Therefore the king immediately sent an executioner, and commanded his head to be brought; and he went and beheaded him in the prison,

⁴ And I say to you My friends, do not be afraid of those that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. ⁵ But I will forewarn you whom you shall fear: Fear Him, which after He has killed has power to cast into hell; yes, I say to you, Fear Him.

²⁰ Also Herod was highly displeased with those of Tyre and Sidon: But they came with one accord to him, and having made Blastus the king's chamberlain their friend, desired peace; because their country was nourished by the king's country.

²⁰ Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God implored you through us: We make request of you on Christ's behalf, be reconciled to God.

²³ And they waited for me as for the rain; and they opened their mouth wide as for the latter rain. ²⁴ If I laughed on them, they believed it not; and the light of my countenance they cast not down.

⁶ There are many that say, "Who will show us any good?" LORD, lift up the light of Your countenance upon us.

⁶ For You have made him most blessed forever: You have made him exceedingly glad with Your countenance.

⁵ For His anger endures but a moment; in His favor is life: Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.

⁶ He shall come down like rain upon the mown grass: As showers that water the earth.

³ Then we shall know, if we follow on pursuing to know the LORD: His going forth is prepared like the morning; and He shall come to us as the rain, as the latter and former rain to the earth.

¹ Ask rain of the LORD in the time of the latter rain, all of you; so the LORD shall make bright clouds, and give them showers of rain, to everyone grass in the field.

²⁸ You have made known to me the ways of life; You shall make me full of joy with Your countenance.'

¹³ Man knows not its price; neither is it found in the land of the living. ¹⁴ The depth said, "It is not in me: And the sea said, "It is not with me. ¹⁵ It cannot be gotten for gold, neither shall silver be weighed for its price. ¹⁶ It cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx, or the sapphire. ¹⁷ The gold and the crystal cannot equal it: And the exchange of it shall not be for jewels of fine gold. ¹⁸ No mention shall be made of coral, or of pearls: For the price of wisdom is above rubies. ¹⁹ The topaz of Ethiopia shall not equal it, neither shall it be valued with pure gold. ²⁰ From where then comes wisdom? And where is the place of understanding? ²¹ Seeing it is hid from the eyes of all living, and kept close from the fowls of the air. ²² Destruction and death say, "We have heard its fame with our ears. ²³ God understands its way, and he knows its place. ²⁴ For he looks to the ends of the earth, and sees under the whole heaven; ²⁵ to make the weight for the winds; and he weighs the waters by measure. ²⁶ When he made a decree for the rain, and a way for the lightning of the thunder: ²⁷ Then did he see it, and declare it; he prepared it, yes, and searched it out. ²⁸ And to man he said, "Behold, the fear of the LORD, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.

¹²⁷ Therefore I love Your commandments above gold; yes, above fine gold.

¹⁵ She is more precious than rubies: And all the things you can desire are not to be compared to her. ¹⁶ Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honor. ¹⁷ Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. ¹⁸ She is a tree of life to those that lay hold upon her: And happy is everyone that retains her.

⁷ Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: And with all your getting get understanding.

¹⁰ Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold. ¹¹ For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.

¹⁹ My fruit is better than gold, yes, than fine gold; and my revenue than choice silver.

¹² For wisdom is a defense, and money is a defense: But the excellency of knowledge is that wisdom gives life to those who have it.

²⁶ For what is a man profited, if he gains the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

²¹ So is he that lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God."

²⁴ Put away from you a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from you. ²⁵ Let your eyes look right on, and let your eyelids look straight before you. ²⁶ Ponder the path of your feet, and let all your ways be established. ²⁷ Do not turn to the right hand nor to the left: Remove your foot from evil.

⁹ He that walks uprightly walks surely: But he that perverts his ways shall be known.

¹⁶ He that keeps the commandment keeps his own soul; but he that despises his ways shall die.

⁸ And a highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called The way of holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; but it shall be for those: The wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err in it.

¹³ But he who endures to the end, the same shall be saved.

³⁵ But in every nation he that fears Him, and works righteousness, is accepted with Him.

¹⁶ And in this I exercise myself, to always have a conscience void of offense toward God, and toward men.

¹⁰ not stealing, but showing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in all things. ¹¹ For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, ¹² teaching us that through denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; ¹³ looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ; ¹⁴ who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify to Himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

³⁹ But we are not of those who draw back to perdition; but of those that believe to the saving of the soul.

²¹ keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life.

²⁴ Now to Him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy,

¹⁰ Because you have kept the word of My patience, I also will keep you from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to prove by testing those that dwell upon the earth.

⁵ And when Haman saw that Mordecai did not bow, nor did he reverence, then Haman was full of wrath.

⁶ So Haman came in. And the king said to him, "What shall be done to the man whom the king delights to honor?" Now Haman thought in his heart, "To whom would the king delight to do honor more than to myself?"

¹⁰ So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then the king's wrath was pacified.

² When pride comes, then comes shame: But with the lowly is wisdom.

¹⁹ He that loves strife loves transgression: And he that exalts his gate seeks destruction.

¹² Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honor is humility.

²³ A man's pride shall bring him low: But honor shall uphold the humble in spirit.

¹¹ The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, and the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day. ¹² For the day of the LORD of hosts shall be on everyone that is proud and lofty, and on everyone that is lifted up; and he shall be brought low:

¹⁰ "Thus shall you speak to Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, 'Let not your God, in Whom you trust, deceive you, saying, "Jerusalem shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria." ¹¹ Behold, you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands by destroying them utterly; and shall you be delivered? ¹² Have the gods of the nations delivered those whom my fathers have destroyed, as Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the children of Eden which were in Telassar? ¹³ Where is the king of Hamath, and the king of Arphad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivah?"

³⁸ And it came to pass, as he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons smote him with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Armenia: And Esarhaddon his son reigned in his stead.

³⁰ The king spoke, and said, "Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honor of my majesty?" ³¹ While the word was in the king's mouth, there fell a voice from heaven, saying, "O king Nebuchadnezzar, to you it is spoken; the kingdom has departed from you. ³² And they shall drive you from men, and your dwelling shall be with the wild beasts of the field: They shall make you to eat grass as oxen, and seven times shall pass over you, until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever He wills." ³³ The same hour the thing was fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar: And he was driven from men, and ate grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, until his hairs were grown like eagles' feathers, and his nails like birds' claws. ³⁴ And at the end of the days, I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted up my eyes to heaven, and my understanding returned to me, and I blessed the Most High, and I praised and honored Him that lives forever, whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and His kingdom is from generation to generation: ³⁵ And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: And He does according to His will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: And none can stay His hand, or say to Him, "What are You doing?" ³⁶ At the same time my reason returned to me; and for the glory of my kingdom, my honor and brightness returned to me; and my counselors and my lords sought me; and I was established in my kingdom, and excellent majesty was added to me. ³⁷ Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven, all whose works are truth, and His ways judgment: And those who walk in pride He is able to abase.

²² And you his son, O Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart, though you knew all this;

²⁴ Then the part of the hand was sent from Him; and this writing was written.

³ The pride of your heart has deceived you, you that dwell in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high; that says in his heart, 'Who shall bring me down to the ground?' ⁴ Though you exalt yourself as the eagle, and though you set your nest among the stars, I will bring you down from there", says the LORD.

³³ Peter answered and said to Him, "Though all men shall be offended because of You, yet I will never be offended." ³⁴ Jesus said to him, "Truly I say to you, That this night, before the rooster crows, you shall deny Me three times." ³⁵ Peter said to Him, "Even if I must die with You, yet I will not deny You." All the disciples also said likewise.

⁷⁴ And he began to curse and to swear, saying, "I do not know the Man." And immediately the rooster crowed.

²⁰ Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and you stand by faith. Do not be highminded, but fear:

⁶ Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.

⁹ The enemy said, 'I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; my lust shall be satisfied upon them; I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them.'

¹⁸ The LORD is near to those that are of a broken heart; and saves such as are of a contrite spirit.

⁶ Though the LORD is high, yet He has respect to the lowly: But the proud He knows afar off.

³ You have multiplied the nation, and not increased the joy: They joy before You according to the joy in harvest, and as men rejoice when they divide the spoil.

⁶ I will send him against a hypocritical nation, and I will give him a charge against the people of my wrath, to take the spoil, and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire in the streets.

¹³ For he said, "By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my wisdom; for I am prudent: And I have removed the bounds of the people, and have robbed their treasures, and I have put down the inhabitants like a valiant man: ¹⁴ And my hand has found as a nest the riches of the people: And as one gathers eggs that are left, have I gathered all the earth; and there was none that moved the wing, or opened the mouth, or peeped." ¹⁵ Shall the ax boast itself against him who chops with it? Or shall the saw magnify itself against him that shakes it? As if the rod should shake itself against those that lift it up, or as if the staff should lift itself up, as if it were not wood.

¹² Therefore I will divide to Him a portion with the great, and He shall divide the spoil with the strong; because He has poured out His soul to death: And He was numbered with the transgressors; and He bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

¹⁵ For thus says the high and lofty One who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also who is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

³ "Blessed are the poor in spirit: For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

⁵¹ He has shown strength with His arm; He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. ⁵² He has put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted those of low degree. ⁵³ He has filled the hungry with good things; and the rich He has sent away empty.

¹³ And the publican, standing afar off, would not so much as lift up his eyes to heaven, but smote his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me a sinner.' ¹⁴ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: For everyone who exalts himself shall be abased; and he that humbles himself shall be exalted."

³⁸ And Pharaoh said to his servants, "Can we find such a one as he is, a man in whom the Spirit of God is?" ³⁹ And Pharaoh said to Joseph, "For as much as God has shown you all this, there is none so discreet and wise as you are: ⁴⁰ You shall be over my house, and according to your word shall all my people be ruled: Only in the throne will I be greater than you."

²⁰ And they were helped against them, and the Hagarites were delivered into their hand, and all that were with them: For they cried out to God in the battle, and he was entreated of them; because they put their trust in him.

¹² Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, and all you perish from pursuing the way, when His wrath is kindled only a little. Blessed are all those that put their trust in Him.

⁸ O taste and see that the LORD is good: Blessed is the man that trusts in him.

¹ A Song of degrees. Those who trust in the LORD shall be as Mount Zion which cannot be removed, but abides forever.

⁵ Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD his God:

³⁵ For whoever finds me finds life, and shall obtain favor of the LORD.

¹⁵ Good understanding gives favor: But the way of transgressors is hard.

² A wise servant shall have rule over a son that causes shame, and shall have part of the inheritance among the brothers.

⁸ He that gets wisdom loves his own soul: He that keeps understanding shall find good.

¹⁹ That your trust may be in the LORD, I have made known to you this day, even to you. ²⁰ Have I not written to you excellent things in counsels and knowledge,

³ Through wisdom a house is built; and by understanding it is established: ⁴ And by knowledge the chambers shall be filled with all precious and pleasant riches. ⁵ A wise man is strong; yes, a man of knowledge increases strength.

³ You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You: Because he trusts in You. ⁴ Trust in the LORD forever: For in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength:

¹⁸ And therefore the LORD will wait, that He may be gracious to you, and therefore He will be exalted, that He may have mercy on you: For the LORD is a God of judgment: Blessed are all those that wait for Him.

⁷ Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, and whose hope is the LORD. ⁸ For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, and which spreads out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat comes, but her leaves shall be green; and shall not be anxious in the year of drought, nor shall cease from yielding fruit.

¹⁹ And the king communed with them; and among them all none were found like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: Therefore they stood before the king. ²⁰ And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king inquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in his entire realm. ²¹ And Daniel continued to even the first year of King Cyrus.

²⁸ Then Nebuchadnezzar spoke, and said, "Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, Who has sent His angel, and delivered His servants who trusted in Him, and has changed the king's word, and yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God.

²³ Then the king was exceedingly glad for him, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no manner of injury was found upon him, because he believed in his God.

¹⁶ Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: Therefore be wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.

¹² That we should be to the praise of His glory, who first trusted in Christ. ¹³ In Whom you also trusted, after that you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: In Whom also after that you believed, you were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise,

¹² behold, I have done according to your words: Lo, I have given you a wise and an understanding heart; so that there was none like you before you, neither after you shall any arise like to you.

² You are fairer than the children of men: Grace is poured into Your lips: Therefore God has blessed You forever.

⁸ The wise in heart will receive commandments: But a prating fool shall fall.

⁷ The lips of the wise disperse knowledge: But the heart of the foolish does not do so.

²³ The heart of the wise teaches his mouth, and adds learning to his lips. ²⁴ Pleasant words are as a honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.

¹⁵ My son, if your heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine.

⁹ Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart: So does the sweetness of a man's friend by hearty counsel.

¹⁰ The preacher sought to find out acceptable words: And that which was written was upright, even words of truth.

⁴ The Lord GOD has given Me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him who is weary: He wakens morning by morning, He wakens my ear to hear as the learned.

²² Therefore all bore Him witness, and marveled at the gracious words which proceeded out of His mouth. And they said, "Is this not Joseph's son?"

⁴⁶ The officers answered, "No man ever spoke like this Man."

¹⁹ For your obedience has become known to everyone. Therefore I am glad on your behalf: But I would still have you be wise to that which is good, and simple concerning evil.

¹⁷ But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.

¹¹ The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life: But violence covers the mouth of the wicked.

¹⁴ The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

² The tongue of the wise uses knowledge aright: But the mouth of fools pours out foolishness.

²⁸ The heart of the righteous studies to answer: But the mouth of the wicked pours out evil things.

⁴ The words of a man's mouth are as deep waters, and the wellspring of wisdom as a flowing brook.

¹⁴ Leave them alone: They are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind leads the blind, both shall fall into the ditch."

¹⁶ Woe to you, you blind guides, who say, 'Whoever swears by the temple, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gold of the temple, he is obligated!' ¹⁷ You fools and blind: For which is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifies the gold? ¹⁸ And, 'Whoever swears by the altar, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gift that is upon it, he is bound.' ¹⁹ You fools and blind: For which is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifies the gift? ²⁰ Therefore whoever shall swear by the altar, swears by it, and by all things upon it. ²¹ And whoever shall swear by the temple, swears by it, and by Him that dwells in it. ²² And he who swears by heaven, swears by the throne of God, and by Him that sits upon it. ²³ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law; judgment, mercy, and faith: These you ought to have done, and not leave the others undone. ²⁴ You blind guides, who strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel. ²⁵ "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup and the platter, but inside they are full of extortion and excess. ²⁶ You blind Pharisee, first cleanse that which is inside the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.

³⁹ And He spoke a parable to them, "Can the blind lead the blind? Shall they not both fall into the ditch? ⁴⁰ The disciple is not above his master: But everyone who is perfect shall be as his master.

²⁴ "Truly, truly, I say to you, He who hears My word, and believes on Him that sent Me, has everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but has passed from death to life.

⁶³ It is the Spirit that makes alive; the flesh profits nothing: The words that I speak to you, they are spirit, and they are life.

⁶⁸ Then Simon Peter answered Him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.

³⁰ The mouth of the righteous speaks wisdom, and his tongue talks of judgment. ³¹ The law of his God is in his heart; none of his steps shall slide.

¹ To the chief Musician upon Shoshannim, for the sons of Korah, Maschil, A Song of loves. My heart is inditing a good matter: I speak of the things which I have composed concerning the King: My tongue is the pen of a ready writer.

¹⁷ Bow down your ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply your heart to my knowledge. ¹⁸ For it is a pleasant thing if you keep them within you; they shall be fitted together in your lips.

³⁴ O generation of vipers, how can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. ³⁵ A good man out of the good treasure of the heart brings forth good things: And an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things.

¹⁶ Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

² My doctrine shall drop as the rain, my speech shall distil as the dew, as the small rain on the tender herb, and as the showers on the grass:

¹⁰ More to be desired are they than gold, yes, than much fine gold: Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.

¹⁰³ How sweet are Your words to my taste! Yes, sweeter than honey to my mouth!

⁸ It shall be health to your navel, and marrow to your bones.

²² For they are life to those that find them, and health to all their flesh.

¹⁸ There is that which speaks like the piercings of a sword: But the tongue of the wise is health.

²³ A man has joy by the answer of his mouth: And a word spoken in due season, how good it is!

²⁶ The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the LORD: But the words of the pure are pleasant words.

¹⁶ Yes, my reins shall rejoice, when your lips speak right things.

¹³ My son, eat honey, because it is good; and the honeycomb, which is sweet to your taste: ¹⁴ So shall the knowledge of wisdom be to your soul: When you have found it, then there shall be a reward, and your expectation shall not be cut off.

¹¹ A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver. ¹² As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.

¹¹ Your lips, O my spouse, drop as the honeycomb: Honey and milk are under your tongue; and the smell of your garments is like the smell of Lebanon.

¹⁶ Your words were found, and I ate them; and Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart: For I am called by Your name, O LORD God of hosts.

¹⁹ Then, the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, "Peace be to you." ²⁰ And when He had said this, He showed them His hands and His side. Then the disciples were glad, when they saw the Lord. ²¹ Then Jesus said to them again, "Peace be to you: As My Father has sent Me, even so I send you."

¹⁵ The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: But he that hearkens to counsel is wise.

²⁶ The righteous is more excellent than his neighbor: But the way of the wicked seduces them.

¹² There is a way which seems right to a man, but its end are the ways of death.

¹⁵ Because you have said, "We have made a covenant with death, and with hell we are in agreement; when the overflowing whip shall pass through, it shall not come to us: For we have made lies our refuge, and we have hid ourselves under falsehood:" ¹⁶ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD, "Behold, I lay in Zion a stone for a foundation, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: He that believes shall not make haste. ¹⁷ I will also lay judgment on the line, and righteousness to the plummet: And the hail shall sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters shall overflow the hiding place. ¹⁸ And your covenant with death shall be disannulled, and your agreement with hell shall not stand; when the overflowing whip shall pass through, then you shall be trodden down by it. ¹⁹ From the time that it goes forth it shall take you: For morning by morning it shall pass over, by day and by night: And it shall be a terror only to understand the report.

⁴⁷ Then the Pharisees answered them, "Are you also deceived? ⁴⁸ Have any of the rulers or the Pharisees believed on Him? ⁴⁹ But this people who does not know the law are cursed."

⁴⁰ Then some of the Pharisees who were with Him heard these words, and said to Him, "Are we blind also?"

⁹ "I truly thought within myself, that I ought to do many things contrary to the name of Jesus of Nazareth.

⁵ Examine yourselves, whether you are in the faith; prove your own selves. Do you not know your own selves, that Jesus Christ is in you, unless you are reprobates?

¹² If you are wise, you shall be wise for yourself: But if you scorn, you alone shall bear it.

²³ In all labor there is profit: But the talk of the lips tends only to penury.

⁷ All the labor of man is for his mouth, and yet the appetite is not filled.

¹¹ and that you study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you; ¹² that you may walk honestly toward those who are outside, and that you may lack nothing.

⁸ neither did we eat any man's bread for nothing: But worked with labor and travail night and day, that we might not be chargeable with a fault to any of you: ⁹ Not because we have no power, but to make ourselves an example to you, to follow us. ¹⁰ For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: That if anyone would not work, neither should he eat. ¹¹ For we hear that there are some who walk among you disorderly, not working at all, but are busybodies. ¹² Now those who are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread.

¹⁷ Now therefore know and consider what you will do; for evil is determined against our master, and against all his household: For he is such a son of Belial, that a man cannot speak to him."

¹ And there happened to be there a man of Belial, whose name was Sheba, the son of Bichri, a Benjamite: And he blew a trumpet, and said, "We have no part in David, neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse: Every man to his tents, O Israel.

¹⁴ From men which are Your hand, O LORD, from men of the world, which have their portion in this life, and whose belly You fill with Your hidden treasure: They are full of children, and leave the rest of their substance to their babes. ¹⁵ As for me, I will behold Your face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with Your likeness.

² The tongue devises mischiefs; like a sharp razor, working deceitfully. ³ You love evil more than good; and lying rather than to speak righteousness. Selah. ⁴ You love all devouring words, O you deceitful tongue.

⁴ My soul is among lions: And I lie even among those that are set on fire, even the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword.

⁴ if you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures;

⁶ And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: Thus is the tongue among our members, that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.

¹ Now the serpent was more subtle than any wild beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, "Yes, has God said, 'All of you shall not eat of every tree of the garden?' Have you eaten of the tree which I commanded you that you should not eat?" ¹² And the man said, "The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate." ¹³ And the LORD God said to the woman, "What is this that you have done?" And the woman said, "The serpent beguiled me, and I ate."

⁹ And David said to Saul, "Why do you listen to men's words, who say, 'Behold, David seeks your hurt'?

¹⁹ a false witness that speaks lies, and he that sows discord among brethren.

¹⁸ A wrathful man stirs up strife: But he that is slow to anger appeases strife.

⁹ He that covers a transgression seeks love; but he that repeats a matter separates true friends.

⁸ The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.

²⁰ For I fear, lest, when I come, I shall not find you such as I desire, and that I shall be found by you such as you do not desire: Lest there be debates, envyings, wraths, strifes, backbitings, whisperings, swellings, tumults:

³ If any man teaches otherwise, and does not consent to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness; ⁴ he is proud, knowing nothing, but regards questions and strifes of words with excessive fondness, from which comes envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings, ⁵ perverse disputing by men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: From such withdraw yourself.

¹⁴ But if you have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, do not boast, and do not lie against the truth. ¹⁵ This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. ¹⁶ For where envying and strife are, there is confusion and every evil work.

¹¹ Saul also sent messengers to David's house, to watch him, and to slay him in the morning: And Michal David's wife told him, saying, "If you do not save your life tonight, tomorrow you shall be slain."

¹⁷ And Saul said to Michal, "Why have you deceived me so, and sent away my enemy, that he has escaped?" And Michal answered Saul, "He said to me, 'Let me go; why should I kill you?' "

⁷ Then Saul said to his servants that stood around him, "Hear now, you Benjamites; will the son of Jesse give every one of you fields and vineyards, and make you all captains of thousands, and captains of hundreds; ⁸ that all of you have conspired against me, and there is none that shows me that my son has made a league with the son of Jesse, and there is none of you that is sorry for me, or discloses to me that my son has stirred up my servant against me, to lie in wait, as at this time?" ⁹ Then Doeg the Edomite answered, who was set over the servants of Saul, and said, "I saw the son of Jesse coming to Nob, to Ahimelech the son of Ahitub.

¹⁹ Then the Ziphites came up to Saul at Gibeah, saying, "Does David not hide himself with us in secure places in the woods, in the hill of Hachilah, which is on the south of Jeshimon? ²⁰ Now therefore, O king, come down according to all the desire of your soul to come down; and our part shall be to deliver him into the king's hand." ²¹ And Saul said, "Blessed be you of the LORD; for you have compassion on me.

¹³ Therefore was he hired, that I should be afraid, and do so, and sin, and that they might have matter for an evil report, that they might reproach me.

¹⁰ My son, if sinners entice you, do not consent. ¹¹ If they say, "Come with us, let us lay in wait for blood, let us lurk privately for the innocent without cause: ¹² Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit: ¹³ We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil: ¹⁴ Cast in your lot among us; let us all have one purse":

¹² To deliver you from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaks froward things; ¹³ who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness; ¹⁴ who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the frowardness of the wicked; ¹⁵ whose ways are crooked, and those froward in their paths:

³¹ Do not envy the oppressor, and choose none of his ways.

¹⁷ You therefore, beloved, seeing you know these things beforehand, beware lest you also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own steadfastness.

²⁰ For everyone that does evil hates the light, neither comes to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.

³² You shall rise up before the hoary head, and honor the face of the old man, and fear your God: I am the LORD.

² And now, behold, the king walks before you: And I am old and gray headed; and behold, my sons are with you: And I have walked before you from my childhood to this day. ³ Behold, here I am: Witness against me before the LORD, and before his anointed: Whose ox have I taken? Or whose donkey have I taken? Or whom have I defrauded? Whom have I oppressed? Or from whose hand have I received any bribe to blind my eyes with it? And I will restore it to you. ⁴ And they said, "You have not defrauded us, nor oppressed us, neither have you taken anything owed from any man's hand." ⁵ And he said to them, "The LORD is witness against you, and His anointed is witness this day, that you have not found anything in my hand." And they answered, "He is witness."

¹⁰ Why David blessed the LORD before all the congregation: And David said, "Blessed be you, LORD God of Israel our father, forever and ever. ¹¹ Yours, O LORD is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: For all that is in the heaven and in the earth is yours; your is the kingdom, O LORD, and you are exalted as head above all. ¹² Both riches and honor come of you, and you reign over all; and in your hand is power and might; and in your hand it is to make great, and to give strength to all. ¹³ Now therefore, our God, we thank you, and praise your glorious name. ¹⁴ But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly after this sort? For all things come of you, and of your own have we given you. ¹⁵ For we are strangers before you, and sojourners, as were all our fathers: Our days on the earth are as a shadow, and there is none abiding. ¹⁶ O LORD our God, all this store that we have prepared to build you a house for your holy name comes of your hand, and is all your own. ¹⁷ I know also, my God, that You prove the heart through testing, and have pleasure in uprightness. As for me, in the uprightness of my heart I have willingly offered all these things: And now I have seen with joy Your people, which are present here, to offer willingly to You. ¹⁸ O LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, our fathers, keep this forever in the imagination of the thoughts of the heart of your people, and prepare their heart to you: ¹⁹ And give to Solomon my son a perfect heart, to keep your commandments, your testimonies, and your statutes, and to do all these things, and to build the palace, for the which I have made provision. ²⁰ And David said to all the congregation, Now bless the LORD your God. And all the congregation blessed the LORD God of their fathers, and bowed down their heads, and worshiped the LORD, and the king. ²¹ And they sacrificed sacrifices to the LORD, and offered burnt offerings to the LORD, on the next day after that day, even a thousand bulls, a thousand rams, and a thousand lambs, with their drink offerings, and sacrifices in abundance for all Israel: ²² And ate and drink before the LORD on that day with great gladness. And they made Solomon the son of David king the second time, and anointed him to the LORD to be the chief governor, and Zadok to be priest. ²³ Then Solomon sat on the throne of the LORD as king instead of David his father, and prospered; and all Israel obeyed him. ²⁴ And all the princes, and the mighty men, and all the sons likewise of king David, submitted themselves to Solomon the king. ²⁵ And the LORD magnified Solomon exceedingly in the sight of all Israel, and bestowed on him such royal majesty as had not been on any king before him in Israel.

⁶ And Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite answered and said, "I am young, and you are very old; why I was afraid, and dared not show you my opinion. ⁷ I said, "Days should speak, and multitude of years should teach wisdom.

¹ My son, do not forget my law; but let your heart keep my commandments: ² For they shall add to you length of days, and long life, and peace.

⁶ Children's children are the crown of old men; and the glory of children are their fathers.

²⁹ The glory of young men is their strength: And the beauty of old men is the grey head.

¹³ Better is a poor and a wise child than an old and foolish king, who will be admonished no more.

⁹ yet for love's sake I rather beseech you, being such a one as Paul the aged, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ.

⁸ The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abundant in mercy.

²⁹ He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding: But he that is hasty of spirit exalts folly.

¹⁹ It is better to be of a humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.

¹¹ The discretion of a man defers his anger; and it is his glory to pass over a transgression.

²⁸ He that has no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.

²¹ Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

¹ You therefore be followers of God, as dear children;

¹⁹ Therefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:

²¹ To him that overcomes I will grant to sit with Me in My throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with My Father in His throne."

⁵⁵ Notwithstanding, the land shall be divided by lot: According to the names of the tribes of their fathers they shall inherit. ⁵⁶ According to the lot shall its possession be divided between many and few. ⁵⁷ And these are those that were numbered of the Levites after their families: Of Gershon, the family of the Gershonites: Of Kohath, the family of the Kohathites: Of Merari, the family of the Merarites. ⁵⁸ These are the families of the Levites: The family of the Libnites, the family of the Hebronites, the family of the Mahlites, the family of the Mushites, the family of the Korathites. And Kohath begat Amram. ⁵⁹ And the name of Amram's wife was Jochebed, the daughter of Levi, whom her mother bore to Levi in Egypt: And she bore to Amram Aaron and Moses, and Miriam their sister. ⁶⁰ And to Aaron was born Nadab, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. ⁶¹ And Nadab and Abihu died, when they offered strange fire before the LORD. ⁶² And those that were numbered of them were twenty and three thousand, all males from a month old and upward: For they were not numbered among the children of Israel, because there was no inheritance given them among the children of Israel. ⁶³ These are those that were numbered by Moses and Eleazar the priest, who numbered the children of Israel in the plains of Moab by Jordan near Jericho. ⁶⁴ But among these there was not a man of them whom Moses and Aaron the priest numbered, when they numbered the children of Israel in the wilderness of Sinai. ⁶⁵ For the LORD had said of them, They shall surely die in the wilderness. And there was not left a man of them, save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.

¹⁴ In the morning therefore you shall be brought according to your tribes: And it shall be, that the tribe which the LORD takes shall come according to its families; and the family which the LORD shall take shall come by households; and the household which the LORD shall take shall come man by man.

⁵ And they shall divide it into seven parts: Judah shall abide in their coast on the south, and the house of Joseph shall abide in their coasts on the north.

¹⁰ And Joshua cast lots for them in Shiloh before the LORD: And there Joshua divided the land to the children of Israel according to their divisions.

⁴¹ Therefore Saul said to the LORD God of Israel, "Give a perfect lot." And Saul and Jonathan were taken: But the people escaped. ⁴² And Saul said, "Cast lots between me and my son Jonathan." And Jonathan was taken.

¹ And the rulers of the people dwelled at Jerusalem: The rest of the people also cast lots, to bring one of ten to dwell in Jerusalem the holy city, and nine parts to dwell in other cities.

¹⁸ The lot causes contentions to cease, and parts between the mighty.

²⁶ Many seek the ruler's favor; but every man's judgment comes from the LORD.

⁷ And everyone said to his fellow associate, "Come, and let us cast lots, that we may know for whose cause this evil is upon us." So they cast lots, and the lot fell upon Jonah.

²⁶ And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.
