⁴ But you shall go to my country, and to my kindred, and take a wife to my son Isaac." ⁵ And the servant said to him, "Peradventure the woman will not be willing to follow me to this land: Must I necessarily bring your son again to the land from where you came?" ⁶ And Abraham said to him, "Beware that you do not bring my son to that place again. ⁷ The LORD God of heaven, which took me from my father's house, and from the land of my kindred, and which spoke to me, and that swore to me, saying, 'To your seed I will give this land'; he shall send his angel before you, and you shall take a wife to my son from there. ⁸ And if the woman will not be willing to follow you, then you shall be clear from this my oath: Only do not bring my son to that place again." ⁹ And the servant put his hand under the thigh of Abraham his master, and swore to him concerning that matter. ¹⁰ And the servant took ten camels of the camels of his master, and departed; for all the goods of his master were in his hand: And he arose, and went to Mesopotamia, to the city of Nahor. ¹¹ And he made his camels to kneel down outside the city by a well of water at the time of the evening, even the time that women go out to draw water. ¹² And he said, "O LORD God of my master Abraham, I implore you, send me good speed this day, and show kindness to my master Abraham. ¹³ Behold, I stand here by the well of water; and the daughters of the men of the city come out to draw water: ¹⁴ And let it come to pass, that the damsel to whom I shall say, 'Let down your pitcher, I implore you, that I may drink'; and she shall say, 'Drink, and I will give your camels drink also': Let the same be her that You have appointed for Your servant Isaac; and by that I shall know You have showed kindness to my master." ¹⁵ And it came to pass, before he had finished speaking, that behold, Rebekah came out, who was born to Bethuel, son of Milcah, the wife of Nahor, Abraham's brother, with her pitcher upon her shoulder. ¹⁶ And the damsel was very fair to look upon, a virgin, neither had any man known her: And she went down to the well, and filled her pitcher, and came up. ¹⁷ And the servant ran to meet her, and said, "Let me, I implore you, drink a little water of your pitcher." ¹⁸ And she said, "Drink, my lord": And she hastened, and let down her pitcher into her hand, and gave him drink. ¹⁹ And when she had finished giving him drink, she said, "I will draw water for your camels also, until they have finished drinking." ²⁰ And she hastened, and emptied her pitcher into the trough, and ran again to the well to draw water, and drew for all his camels. ²¹ And the man feeling wonder about her held his peace, to know whether the LORD had made his journey prosperous or not. ²² And it came to pass, as the camels had finished drinking, that the man took a golden earring of half a shekel weight, and two bracelets for her hands of ten shekels weight of gold; ²³ and said, "Whose daughter are you? Tell me, I implore you: Is there room in your father's house for us to lodge in?" ²⁴ And she said to him, "I am the daughter of Bethuel the son of Milcah, which she bore to Nahor." ²⁵ She said moreover to him, "We have both straw and enough dry meal, and room to lodge in." ²⁶ And the man bowed down his head, and worshiped the LORD. ²⁷ And he said, "Blessed be the LORD God of my master Abraham, Who has not left destitute my master of His mercy and His truth: I being in the pathway, the LORD led me to the house of my master's brothers." ²⁸ And the damsel ran, and told these things to those of her mother' house. ²⁹ And Rebekah had a brother, and his name was Laban: And Laban ran out to the man, to the well. ³⁰ And it came to pass, when he saw the earring and bracelets upon his sister's hands, and when he heard the words of Rebekah his sister, saying, "Thus spoke the man to me; that he came to the man; and behold, he stood by the camels at the well. ³¹ And he said, "Come in, you blessed of the LORD; why do you stand outside? And he said, "Speak on." ³⁴ And he said, "I am Abraham's servant. ³⁵ And the LORD has blessed my master greatly; and he has become great: And he has given him flocks, and herds, and silver, and gold, and menservants, and maidservants, and camels, and donkeys. ³⁶ And my master's wife Sarah bore a son to my master when she was old: And he has given all that he has to him. ³⁷ And my master made me swear, saying, 'You shall not take a wife to my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose land I dwell: ³⁸ But you shall go to my father's house, and to my kindred, and take a wife to my son.' ³⁹ And I said to my master, 'Peradventure the woman will not follow me.' ⁴⁰ And he said to me, 'The LORD, before whom I walk, will send his angel with you, and prosper your way; and you shall take a wife for my son of my kindred, and of my father's house: ⁴¹ Then you shall be free from my oath, when you come to my kindred; and if they do not give you one, you shall be free from my oath.' ⁴² And I came this day to the well, and said, 'O LORD God of my master Abraham, if now You prosper my way in which I go: ⁴³ Behold, I stand by the well of water; and it shall come to pass, that when the virgin comes forth to draw water, and I say to her, "Give me, I implore you, a little water from your pitcher to drink"; ⁴⁴ and she says to me, "Both you drink, and I will also draw for your camels": Let the same be the woman whom the LORD has appointed for my master's son.' ⁴⁵ And before I had finished speaking in my heart, behold, Rebekah came forth with her pitcher on her shoulder; and she went down to the well, and drew water: And I said to her, 'Let me drink, I implore you.' ⁴⁶ And she made haste, and let down her pitcher from her shoulder, and said, 'Drink, and I will give your camels drink also: So I drank, and she made the camels drink also. ⁴⁷ And I asked her, and said, 'Whose daughter are you?' And she said, 'The daughter of Bethuel, Nahor's son, whom Milcah bore to him': And I put the earring upon her face, and the bracelets upon her hands. ⁴⁸ And I bowed down my head, and worshiped the LORD, and blessed the LORD God of my master Abraham, which had led me in the right way to take my master's brother's daughter to his son. ⁴⁹ And now if you will deal kindly and truly with my master, tell me: And if not, tell me; that I may turn to the right hand, or to the left." ⁵⁰ Then Laban and Bethuel answered and said, "The thing proceeds from the LORD: We cannot speak to you bad or good. ⁵¹ Behold, Rebekah is before you, take her, and go, and let her be your master's son's wife, as the LORD has spoken." ⁵² And it came to pass, that when Abraham's servant heard their words, he worshiped the LORD, bowing himself to the earth. ⁵³ And the servant brought forth jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and clothing, and gave them to Rebekah: He also gave precious things to her brother and to her mother. ⁵⁴ And they ate and drank, he and the men that were with him, and tarried all night; and they rose up in the morning, and he said, "Send me away to my master." ⁵⁵ And her brother and her mother said, "Let the damsel abide with us a few days, at least ten; after that she shall go." ⁵⁶ And he said to them, "Do not hinder me, seeing the LORD has prospered my way; send me away that I may go to my master." ⁵⁷ And they said, "We will call the damsel, and inquire at her mouth." ⁵⁸ And they called Rebekah, and said to her, "Will you go with this man?" And she said, "I will go." ⁵⁹ And they sent away Rebekah their sister, and her nurse, and Abraham's servant, and his men. ⁶⁰ And they blessed Rebekah, and said to her, "You are our sister, be the mother of thousands of millions, and let your seed possess the gate of those which hate them." ⁶¹ And Rebekah arose, and her damsels, and they rode upon the camels, and followed the man: And the servant took Rebekah, and went his way. ⁶² And Isaac came from the way of the well Lahairoi; for he dwelled in the south country. ⁶³ And Isaac went out to meditate in the field at the beginning of the evening: And he lifted up his eyes, and saw, and behold, the camels were coming. ⁶⁴ And Rebekah lifted up her eyes, and when she saw Isaac, she lighted off the camel. ⁶⁵ For she had said to the servant, "What man is this that walks in the field to meet us?" And the servant said, "It is my master": Therefore she took a veil, and covered herself. ⁶⁶ And the servant told Isaac all things that he had done. ⁶⁷ And Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah's tent, and took Rebekah, and she became his wife; and he loved her: And Isaac was comforted after his mother's death.

⁵ He that gathers in summer is a wise son: But he that sleeps in harvest is a son which causes shame.

²⁹ He that troubles his own house shall inherit the wind: And the fool shall be servant to the wise of heart.

³⁵ The king's favor is toward a wise servant: But his wrath is against him that causes shame.

²⁶ He that injures his father by violence, and chases away his mother, is a son that causes shame, and brings reproach.

¹⁵ The rod and reproof give wisdom: But a child left to himself brings his mother to shame.

¹³ Better is a poor and a wise child than an old and foolish king, who will be admonished no more.

¹⁷ I know also, my God, that You prove the heart through testing, and have pleasure in uprightness. As for me, in the uprightness of my heart I have willingly offered all these things: And now I have seen with joy Your people, which are present here, to offer willingly to You.

² Examine me, O LORD, and prove me; essay my inner reins and my heart.

¹⁰ For You, O God, have proved us: You have tried us, as silver is tried.

²¹ As the refining pot for silver, and the furnace for gold; so is a man to his praise.

¹⁰ Behold, I have refined you, but not with silver; I have chosen you in the furnace of affliction.

¹⁰ I, the LORD, search the heart, I test the mind, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.

⁹ And I will bring the one-third through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will prove them through testing as gold is proved: They shall call on My name, and I will hear them: I will say, 'It is My people': And they shall say, 'The LORD is my God.' "

² "But who may abide the day of His coming? And who shall stand when He appears? For He is like a refiner's fire, and like fullers' soap: ³ And He shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: And He shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer to the LORD an offering in righteousness.

⁷ That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perishes, though it be tried with fire, might be found to praise and honor and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:

²³ And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am He which searches the inner reins and hearts: And I will give to every one of you according to your works.

³¹ the prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and My people love to have it so: And what will you do in the end of it?'

³ For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts they shall heap up to themselves teachers, having itching ears; ⁴ and they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned aside to fables. ⁵ They are of the world: Therefore they speak of the world, and the world hears them.

³ And I saw one of his heads, how it was wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: And all the world wondered after the beast. ⁴ And they worshiped the dragon which gave power to the beast: And they worshiped the beast, saying, "Who is like the beast? ²⁹ If I rejoice at the destruction of him that hated me, or lifted up myself when evil found him:

⁹ For the zeal of Your house has eaten me up; and the reproaches of those that reproached You have fallen upon me.

²¹ He that despises his neighbor sins: But he that has mercy on the poor, happy is he.

³¹ He that oppresses the poor reproaches his Maker: But he that honors Him has mercy on the poor.

⁵ Everyone that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD: Though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.

¹⁷ Do not rejoice when your enemy falls, and do not let your heart be glad when he stumbles: ¹⁸ Lest the LORD see it, and it displease Him, and He turns away His wrath from him.

¹⁶ As for me, I have not hastened from being a pastor to follow You: Neither have I desired the woeful day; You know: That which came out of my lips was right before You.

¹¹ In the day that you stood on the other side, in the day that the strangers carried his forces away captive, and foreigners entered into his gates, and cast lots upon Jerusalem, even you were as one of them. ¹² But you should not have looked on the day of your brother in the day that he became a stranger; neither should you have rejoiced over the children of Judah in the day of their destruction; neither should you have spoken proudly in the day of distress.spoken proudly: In Hebrew, magnified your mouth ¹³ You should not have entered into the gate of My people in the day of their calamity; yes, you should not have looked on their affliction in the day of their calamity, nor have laid hands on their substance in the day of their calamity;substance; or, forces

¹⁶ For as you have drunk upon My holy mountain, so shall all the heathen drink continually, yes, they shall drink, and they shall swallow down, and they shall be as though they had not been.swallow down; or, sup up

¹⁵ Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep.

¹⁷ But whoever has this world's good life, and sees his brother have need, and shuts up his inner heart of compassion from him, how does the love of God dwell in him?

²³ And Joseph saw Ephraim's children of the third generation: Also the children of Machir the son of Manasseh were brought up on Joseph's knees.

¹⁴ And God said to Moses, "I AM THAT I AM": And He said, "Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, 'I AM has sent me to you.' ³ Lo, children are a heritage of the LORD: And the fruit of the womb is his reward. ⁴ As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. ⁵ Happy is the man that has his quiver full of them: They shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.

³ Your wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of your house: Your children like olive plants all around your table. ⁴ Behold, thus shall the man be blessed who fears the LORD. ⁵ The LORD shall bless you out of Zion: And you shall see the good of Jerusalem all the days of your life. ⁶ Yes, you shall see your children's children, and peace upon Israel.

²² A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children: And the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.

³¹ The whitish head is a crown of glory, if it be found in the way of righteousness.

³ The God of Israel said, "the Rock of Israel spoke to me, He that rules over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God.

¹² Yes, surely God will not do wickedly, neither will the Almighty pervert judgment.

¹⁶ But to the wicked God says, "What have you to do with declaring My statutes, or should you take My covenant in your mouth? ¹⁷ Seeing you hate instruction, and cast My words behind you.

³ I will set no wicked thing before my eyes: I have hated the work of those who turn aside; it shall not cleave to me. ⁴ A froward heart shall depart from me: I will not know a wicked person. ⁵ Whoever privately slanders his neighbor, him I will cut off: He who has a high look and a proud heart I will not suffer.

¹⁹ The lip of truth shall be established forever: But a lying tongue is but for a moment.

¹⁰ A divine sentence is in the lips of the king: His mouth does not transgress in judgment. ¹¹ A just weight and balance are the LORD's: All the weights of the bag are His work. ¹² It is an abomination to kings to commit wickedness: For the throne is established by righteousness. ¹³ Righteous lips are the delight of kings; and they love him that speaks right.

⁷ The legs of the lame are not equal: So is a parable in the mouth of fools.

¹² If a ruler hearkens to lies, all his servants are wicked.

⁵ You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye; and then you shall see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye.

⁹ And Esau said, "I have enough, my brother; keep that which you have for yourself." ¹⁰ And Jacob said, "No, I implore you, if now I have found grace in your sight, then receive my present at my hand: For in recompense I have seen your face, as though I had seen the face of God, and you were pleased with me. ¹¹ Take, I implore you, my blessing that is brought to you; because God has dealt graciously with me, and because I have enough." ¹⁶ He sent from above, He took me, He drew me out of many waters.

⁶ His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit to the ends of it: And there is nothing hid from its heat.

¹³ Be exalted, LORD, in Your own strength: In this manner we will sing and praise Your power.

⁴ The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is full of majesty.

²³ A wicked man takes a gift out of the bosom to pervert the ways of judgment.

¹⁴ A gift in secret pacifies anger: And a reward in the bosom appeases strong wrath.

²³ Your princes are rebellious, and companions of thieves: Everyone loves gifts, and follows after rewards: They do not judge the fatherless, neither does the cause of the widow come to them.

¹² For I know your manifold transgressions and your mighty sins: They afflict the just, they take a bribe, and they turn aside the poor in the gate from their rights.

³ That they may do evil with both hands earnestly, the prince asks, and the judge asks for a reward; and the great man, he utters his mischievous desire: So they wrap it up.his mischievous desire: In Hebrew, the mischief of his soul

¹ A Psalm of David, Maschil. Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.

¹² Hatred stirs up strifes: But love covers all sins.

²⁸ A froward man sows strife: And a whisperer separates chief friends.

⁸ And above all things have fervent love among yourselves; for "love shall cover the multitude of sins."

⁵ Let the righteous smite me; it shall be a kindness: And let him reprove me; it shall be an excellent oil, which shall not break my head: Notwithstanding, my prayer shall also be made throughout their calamities.

⁸ Do not reprove a scorner, lest he hate you: Rebuke a wise man, and he will love you. ⁹ Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: Teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.

¹ A wise son hears his father's instruction: But a scorner does not hear rebuke.

⁵ A fool despises his father's instruction: But he that regards reproof is prudent.

²⁵ Smite a scorner, and the simple will beware: And reprove one that has understanding, and he will understand knowledge.

²² Though you pound a fool in a mortar among wheat with a pestle, yet his foolishness will not depart from him.

¹⁹ A servant will not be corrected by words: For though he understand he will not answer.

¹⁹ As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: Therefore be zealous, and repent.

¹² And Absalom sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David's counselor, from his city, even from Giloh, while he offered sacrifices. And the conspiracy was strong; for the people increased continually with Absalom.

⁵ And when king David came to Bahurim, behold, there came out a man of the family of the house of Saul, whose name was Shimei, the son of Gera: He came forth, and cursed still as he came. ⁶ And he cast stones at David, and at all the servants of king David: And all the people and all the mighty men were on his right hand and on his left. ⁷ And thus said Shimei when he cursed, Come out, come out, you bloody man, and you man of Belial: ⁸ The LORD has returned on you all the blood of the house of Saul, in whose stead you have reigned; and the LORD has delivered the kingdom into the hand of Absalom your son: And behold, you are taken in your mischief, because you are a bloody man. ⁹ Then said Abishai the son of Zeruiah to the king, Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? Let me go over, I implore you, and take off his head.

¹⁵ And ten young men that bore Joab's armor compassed about and smote Absalom, and slew him.

¹⁹ Then said Ahimaaz the son of Zadok, Let me now run, and bear the king tidings, how that the LORD has avenged him of his enemies.

¹ And there happened to be there a man of Belial, whose name was Sheba, the son of Bichri, a Benjamite: And he blew a trumpet, and said, "We have no part in David, neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse: Every man to his tents, O Israel.

²² Then the woman went to all the people in her wisdom. And they cut off the head of Sheba the son of Bichri, and cast it out to Joab. And he blew a trumpet, and they retired from the city, every man to his tent. And Joab returned to Jerusalem to the king.

²⁴ Now therefore, as the LORD lives, which has established me, and set me on the throne of David my father, and who has made me a house, as he promised, Adonijah shall be put to death this day. ²⁵ And king Solomon sent by the hand of Benaiah the son of Jehoiada; and he fell on him that he died.

³¹ And the king said to him, "Do as he has said, "and fall upon him, and bury him; that you may take away the innocent blood, which Joab shed, from me, and from the house of my father.

⁴⁶ So the king commanded Benaiah the son of Jehoiada; which went out, and fell on him, that he died. And the kingdom was established in the hand of Solomon.

⁴¹ They said to Him, "He will miserably destroy those wicked men, and will lease out his vineyard to other vinedressers, which shall give him the fruits in their seasons."

⁷ But when the king heard about it, he was wroth: And he sent forth his armies, destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city.

²⁷ But bring here those enemies of mine, who were not willing that I reign over them, and slay them before me.' "

⁸ For, said Hushai, you know your father and his men, that they be mighty men, and they be chafed in their minds, as a bear robbed of her whelps in the field: And your father is a man of war, and will not lodge with the people.

²⁴ And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the LORD. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them.

³ A stone is heavy, and the sand weighty; but a fool's wrath is heavier than them both.

¹⁵ As a roaring lion, and a ranging bear; so is a wicked ruler over the poor people.

⁸ I will meet them as a bear that is bereaved of her whelps, and will tear the membrane of their heart, and I will devour them there like a lion: The wild beast shall tear them.

¹⁶ Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked by the wise men, was exceedingly wroth, and sent forth, and killed all the children that were in Bethlehem, and inside all its borders, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently inquired of the wise men.

¹⁷ And he said to David, "You are more righteous than I: For you have rewarded me good, whereas I have rewarded you evil.

² And the Philistines followed hard upon Saul and upon his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchishua, Saul's sons. ³ And the battle went intensely against Saul, and the archers hit him; and he was severely wounded by the archers.

¹⁰ Now therefore the sword shall never depart from your house; because you have despised me, and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.

¹ Then there was a famine in the days of David three years, year after year; and David inquired of the LORD. And the LORD answered, It is for Saul, and for his bloody house, because he slew the Gibeonites. ² And the king called the Gibeonites, and said to them; (now the Gibeonites were not of the children of Israel, but of the remnant of the Amorites; and the children of Israel had sworn to them: And Saul sought to slay them in his zeal to the children of Israel and Judah). ³ Why David said to the Gibeonites, What shall I do for you? And with which shall I make the atonement, that you may bless the inheritance of the LORD? ⁴ And the Gibeonites said to him, "We will have no silver nor gold of Saul, nor of his house; neither for us shall you kill any man in Israel. And he said, "What you shall say, "that will I do for you. ⁵ And they answered the king, The man that consumed us, and that devised against us that we should be destroyed from remaining in any of the borders of Israel, ⁶ let seven men of his sons be delivered to us, and we will hang them up to the LORD in Gibeah of Saul, whom the LORD did choose. And the king said, "I will give them. ⁷ But the king spared Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan the son of Saul, because of the LORD's oath that was between them, between David and Jonathan the son of Saul. ⁸ But the king took the two sons of Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, whom she bore to Saul, Armoni and Mephibosheth; and the five sons of Michal the daughter of Saul, whom she brought up for Adriel the son of Barzillai the Meholathite: ⁹ And he delivered them into the hands of the Gibeonites, and they hanged them in the hill before the LORD: And they fell all seven together, and were put to death in the days of harvest, on the first days, in the beginning of barley harvest. ¹⁰ And Rizpah the daughter of Aiah took sackcloth, and spread it for her upon the rock, from the beginning of harvest until water dropped on them out of heaven, and suffered neither the birds of the air to rest on them by day, nor the wild beasts of the field by night. ¹¹ And it was told David what Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, the concubine of Saul, had done. ¹² And David went and took the bones of Saul and the bones of his son Jonathan from the men of Jabeshgilead, which had stolen them from the street of Bethshan, where the Philistines had hanged them, when the Philistines had slain Saul in Gilboa: ¹³ And he brought up from there the bones of Saul and the bones of his son Jonathan; and they gathered the bones of those that were hanged. ¹⁴ And the bones of Saul and his son Jonathan buried they in the country of Benjamin in Zelah, in the sepulcher of Kish his father: And they performed all that the king commanded. And after that God was entreated for the land.

¹² They rewarded me evil for good to the spoiling of my soul.

²⁰ Those that render evil for good are also my adversaries; because I follow the thing that is good.

¹² For it was not an enemy that reproached me; then I could have borne it: Neither was it he who hated me that magnified himself against me; then I would have hid myself from him: ¹³ But it was you, a man my equal, my guide, and my acquaintance. ¹⁴ We took sweet counsel together, and walked to the house of God in company. ¹⁵ Let death seize upon them, and let them go down quick into hell: For wickedness is in their dwellings, and among them.

⁴ For my love they are my adversaries: But I give myself to prayer. ⁵ And they have rewarded me evil for good, and hatred for my love. ⁶ Set a wicked man over him: And let Satan stand at his right hand. ⁷ When he shall be judged, let him be condemned: And let his prayer become sin. ⁸ Let his days be few; and let another take his office. ⁹ Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow. ¹⁰ Let his children continually be vagabonds, and beg; let them also seek their bread out of their desolate places. ¹¹ Let the extortioner catch all that he has; and let the strangers spoil his labor. ¹² Let there be none to extend mercy to him: Neither let there be any to favor his fatherless children. ¹³ Let his posterity be cut off; and in the generation following, let their name be blotted out.

²⁰ Shall evil be recompensed for good? For they have dug a pit for my soul. Remember that I stood before you to speak good for them, and to turn away Your wrath from them. ²¹ Therefore deliver up their children to the famine, and pour out their blood by the force of the sword; and let their wives be bereaved of their children, and be widows; and let their men be put to death; let their young men be slain by the sword in battle.

⁵ Then he threw down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hung himself.

²⁵ Then all the people answered, and said, "His blood be on us, and on our children."

¹⁷ Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honestly in the sight of all men.

¹⁵ See that no one renders evil for evil to any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men.

⁹ Not rendering evil for evil, or returning reproach for reproach: But on the contrary blessing; knowing that you are called to this, that you should inherit a blessing.

⁸ And Abram said to Lot, "Let there be no strife, I implore you, between me and you, and between my herdsmen and your herdsmen; for we are brethren. ⁹ Is not the whole land before you? Separate yourself, I implore you, from me: If you will take the left hand side, then I will go to the right; or if you depart to the right hand side, then I will go to the left."

¹ And the men of Ephraim said to him, "Why have you served us thus, that you called us not, when you went to fight with the Midianites? And they did chide with him sharply. ² And he said to them, "What have I done now in comparison of you? Is not the gleaning of the grapes of Ephraim better than the vintage of Abiezer? ³ God has delivered into your hands the princes of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb: And what was I able to do in comparison of you? Then their anger was abated toward him, when he had said that.

¹ And the men of Ephraim gathered themselves together, and went northward, and said to Jephthah, "Why passed you over to fight against the children of Ammon, and did not call us to go with you? We will burn your house on you with fire. ² And Jephthah said to them, "I and my people were at great strife with the children of Ammon; and when I called you, you delivered me not out of their hands. ³ And when I saw that you delivered me not, I put my life in my hands, and passed in front of the children of Ammon, and the LORD delivered them into my hand: Why then are you come up to me this day, to fight against me? ⁴ Then Jephthah gathered together all the men of Gilead, and fought with Ephraim: And the men of Gilead smote Ephraim, because they said, "You Gileadites are fugitives of Ephraim among the Ephraimites, and among the Manassites. ⁵ And the Gileadites took the passages of Jordan before the Ephraimites: And it was so, that when those Ephraimites which were escaped said, "Let me go over; that the men of Gilead said to him, "Are you an Ephraimite? If he said, "No; ⁶ then said they to him, Say now Shibboleth: And he said Sibboleth: For he could not frame to pronounce it right. Then they took him, and slew him at the passages of Jordan: And there fell at that time of the Ephraimites forty and two thousand.

¹⁴ And Abner said to Joab, "Let the young men now arise, and play before us. And Joab said, "Let them arise. ¹⁵ Then there arose and went over by number twelve of Benjamin, which pertained to Ishbosheth the son of Saul, and twelve of the servants of David. ¹⁶ And they caught every one his fellow by the head, and thrust his sword in his fellow's side; so they fell down together: Why that place was called Helkathhazzurim, which is in Gibeon. ¹⁷ And there was a very sore battle that day; and Abner was beaten, and the men of Israel, before the servants of David.

⁴¹ And behold, all the men of Israel came to the king, and said to the king, Why have our brothers the men of Judah stolen you away, and have brought the king, and his household, and all David's men with him, over the Jordan?

¹⁴ and answered them after the advice of the young men, saying, "My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add thereto: My father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions. ¹⁵ So the king did not hearken to the people: For the cause was of God, that the LORD might perform his word, which he spoke by the hand of Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat. ¹⁶ And when all Israel saw that the king would not listen to them, the people answered the king, saying, "What portion have we in David? And we have none inheritance in the son of Jesse: Every man to your tents, O Israel: And now, David, see to your own house. So all Israel went to their tents.

¹⁷ And Abijah and his people slew them with a great slaughter: So there fell down slain of Israel five hundred thousand chosen men.

¹⁷ Then Amaziah king of Judah took advice, and sent to Joash, the son of Jehoahaz, the son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, "Come, let us see one another in the face. ¹⁸ And Joash king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, "The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying, "Give your daughter to my son to wife: And there passed by a wild beast that was in Lebanon, and stepped down the thistle. ¹⁹ You say, 'Lo, you have smitten the Edomites'; and your heart lifts you up to boast: Abide now at home; why should you meddle to your hurt, that you should fall, even you, and Judah with you? ²⁰ But Amaziah would not hear; for it came of God, that He might deliver them into the hand of their enemies, because they sought after the gods of Edom. ²¹ So Joash the king of Israel went up; and they saw one another in the face, both he and Amaziah king of Judah, at Bethshemesh, which belongs to Judah. ²² And Judah was put to the worse before Israel, and they fled every man to his tent. ²³ And Joash the king of Israel took Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Joash, the son of Jehoahaz, at Bethshemesh, and brought him to Jerusalem, and broke down the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim to the corner gate, four hundred cubits. ²⁴ And he took all the gold and the silver, and all the vessels that were found in the house of God with Obededom, and the treasures of the king's house, the hostages also, and returned to Samaria.

⁶ For Pekah the son of Remaliah slew in Judah a hundred and twenty thousand in one day, which were all valiant men; because they had forsaken the LORD God of their fathers.

¹⁰ Only by pride comes contention: But with the well advised is wisdom.

²⁹ He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding: But he that is hasty of spirit exalts folly.

¹ A soft answer turns away wrath: But grievous words stir up anger.

³² He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that rules his spirit than he that takes a city.

¹⁹ He that loves strife loves transgression: And he that exalts his gate seeks destruction.

¹¹ The discretion of a man defers his anger; and it is his glory to pass over a transgression.

³ It is an honor for a man to cease from strife: But every fool will be meddling.

⁸ Do not go hastily forth to strive, lest you know not what to do in the end of it, when your neighbor has put you to shame.

²¹ As coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire; so is a contentious man to kindle strife.

²² An angry man stirs up strife, and a furious man abounds in transgression.

⁸ Better is the end of a thing than the beginning of it: And the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit. ⁹ Do not be hasty to be angry in your spirit: For anger rests in the bosom of fools.

³⁹ But I say to you, That you are not to resist evil: But whoever smites you on your right cheek, turn to him the other also. ⁴⁰ And if any man will sue you at the court of law, and take away your coat, let him have your cloak also. ⁴¹ And whoever compels you to go a mile, go with him two.

¹ Now in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring by the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration. ² Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples to them, and said, "It is not reasonable that we should leave the Word of God, and serve tables. ³ Therefore, brethren, seek out from among you seven men of honest repute, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business. ⁴ But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word." ⁵ And the saying pleased the whole multitude: And they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, and Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte from Antioch:

² Therefore, when Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and dispute with them, they determined that Paul and Barnabas, and certain others of them, should go up to Jerusalem to the apostles and elders about this question. ³ Now being brought on their way by the church, they passed through Phoenicia and Samaria, declaring the conversion of the Gentiles: And they caused great joy to all the brethren. ⁴ And when they had come to Jerusalem, they were received by the church, and by the apostles and elders, and they declared all things that God had done with them. ⁵ But there rose up certain ones from the sect of the Pharisees who believed, saying that, "it was necessary to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses." ⁶ And the apostles and elders came together to consider this matter. ⁷ And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said to them, "Men and brethren, you know that a good while ago God chose among us, that by my mouth the Gentiles should hear the word of the gospel, and believe. ⁸ Also God, which knows the hearts, bore witness to them, giving them the Holy Spirit, even as He did to us; ⁹ and made no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith. ¹⁰ Now therefore, why do you tempt God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear? ¹¹ But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they shall be saved." ¹² Then all the multitude kept silence, and gave audience to Barnabas and Paul, declaring what miracles and wonders God had worked among the Gentiles by them. ¹³ And after they had held their peace, James answered, saying, "Men and brethren, hearken to me: ¹⁴ Simon has declared how God at first visited the Gentiles, to take out of them a people for His name. ¹⁵ And the words of the prophets agree with this; as it is written, ¹⁶ 'After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David, which has fallen down; and I will build again its ruins, and I will set it up: ¹⁷ That the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom My name is called, says the Lord, who does all these things.' ¹⁸ "Known to God are all His works from the beginning of the world. ¹⁹ Therefore my decree is that we do not trouble those from among the Gentiles which have turned to God: ²⁰ But that we write to them that they abstain from pollutions of idols, from fornication, from things strangled, and from blood. ²¹ For since old times there is in every city those who preach Moses, being read in the synagogues every Sabbath day."

¹⁸ If it is possible, as much as rests with you, live peaceably with all men.

¹¹ and that you study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you;

²³ But avoid foolish and unlearned questions, knowing that they beget strifes. ²⁴ And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle to all people, apt to teach, patient,

¹⁴ But if you have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, do not boast, and do not lie against the truth. ¹⁵ This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. ¹⁶ For where envying and strife are, there is confusion and every evil work. ¹⁷ But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. ¹⁸ And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those that make peace.

⁷ Keep yourself far from a false matter; and the innocent and righteous won't slay you: For I will not justify the wicked.

¹³ And there came in two men, children of Belial, and sat before him: And the men of Belial witnessed against him, even against Naboth, in the presence of the people, saying, "Naboth did blaspheme God and the king. Then they carried him forth out of the city, and stoned him with stones, that he died.

¹⁶ These six things the LORD hates: Yes, seven are an abomination to Him:

¹ A false balance is abomination to the LORD: But a just weight is His delight.

⁸ The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD: But the prayer of the upright is His delight.

⁵ It is not good to accept the person of the wicked, to overthrow the righteous in judgment.

²³ These things also belong to the wise. It is not good to have reverence of persons in judgment. ²⁴ He that says to the wicked, "You are righteous"; the people shall curse him, nations shall abhor him:

²³ Who justify the wicked for a bribe, and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him!

⁸ "For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways", said the LORD. ⁹ "For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.

²⁷ Her princes in the middle of her are like wolves ravening the prey, to shed blood, and to destroy souls, to get dishonest gain. ²⁸ And her prophets have daubed them with untempered mortar, seeing vanity, and divining lies to them, saying, 'Thus says the Lord GOD', when the LORD has not spoken. ²⁹ The people of the land have used oppression, and exercised robbery, and have vexed the poor and needy: Yes, they have oppressed the stranger wrongfully.

⁷ You who turn judgment to wormwood, and leave off righteousness in the earth,

¹² Shall horses run upon the rock? Will one plow there with oxen? For you have turned judgment into gall, and the fruit of righteousness into hemlock:

¹⁸ But they cried out all at once, saying, "Away with this Man, and release to us Barabbas": ¹⁹ (Who was cast into prison for a certain insurrection made in the city, and for murder.) ²⁰ Pilate therefore, willing to release Jesus, spoke to them again. ²¹ But they cried out, saying, "Crucify Him, crucify Him." ²² Now he said to them the third time, "Why, what evil has He done? I have found no cause for death in Him: I will therefore chastise Him, and let Him go." ²³ But they were urgent with loud voices, requiring that He might be crucified. And the voices of them and of the chief priests prevailed. ²⁴ And Pilate gave sentence that it should be as they required. ²⁵ And he released to them him that for insurrection and murder was cast into prison, whom they had desired; but he delivered Jesus to their will.

⁵ But to him that does not work, but believes on Him that justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted as righteousness.

⁶ You have condemned and killed the just; and he does not resist you.

²⁹ O that there were such a heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all My commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children forever!

¹¹ But My people would not hearken to My voice; and Israel would have none of Me. ¹² So I gave them up to their own hearts' lust: And they walked in their own counsels. ¹³ Oh, that My people had hearkened to Me, and Israel had walked in My ways!

²² "How long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity? And the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge? ²³ Turn at my reproof: Behold, I will pour out my spirit to you, I will make my words known to you.

⁴ "To you, O men, I call; and my voice is to the sons of man. ⁵ O you simple, understand wisdom: And, you fools, be of an understanding heart.

⁴ "Whoever is simple, let him turn in here": As for him that wants understanding, she says to him, ⁵ "Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled. ⁶ Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.

⁶ A scorner seeks wisdom, and does not find it: But knowledge is easy to him that understands.

¹⁵ The heart of the prudent gets knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.

²⁵ The desire of the slothful kills him; for his hands refuse to labor. ²⁶ He covets greedily all the day long: But the righteous gives and spares not.

²³ Buy the truth, and do not sell it; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.

¹ "Ho, everyone who thirsts, all of you come to the waters, and he who has no money; come all of you, buy, and eat; yes, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. ² Why do you spend money for that which is not bread? And your labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen to Me diligently, and eat that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness. ³ Incline your ear, and come to Me: Hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David.

¹¹ Whoredom and wine and new wine take away the heart.

²⁰ For everyone that does evil hates the light, neither comes to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.

⁴⁶ Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, "It was necessary that the Word of God should first have been spoken to you: But seeing you put it away from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, behold, we turn to the Gentiles.

²⁶ saying, 'Go to this people, and say, "Hearing you shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing you shall see, and not perceive: ²⁷ For the heart of this people is waxed over, and their ears are dull of hearing, and they have closed their eyes; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them." '

¹ We then, as workers together with Him, beseech you also that you do not receive the grace of God in vain.

¹⁶ And Ruth said, "Do not entreat me to leave you, or to return from following after you: For where you go, I will go; and where you lodge, I will lodge: Your people shall be my people, and your God my God:

³ Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul.

² But Saul's son Jonathan delighted much in David: And Jonathan told David, saying, "My father Saul seeks to kill you: Now therefore, I implore you, take heed to yourself until the morning, and abide in a secret place, and hide yourself:

¹⁷ And Jonathan caused David to swear again, because he loved him: For he loved him as he loved his own soul.

¹⁶ And Saul's son Jonathan arose, and went into the woods to David, and strengthened his hand in God.

²⁶ I am distressed for you, my brother Jonathan: You have been very pleasant to me: Your love to me was wonderful, passing the love of women.

¹ And David said, "Is there yet any that is left of the house of Saul, that I may show him kindness for Jonathan's sake? ² And there was of the house of Saul a servant whose name was Ziba. And when they had called him to David, the king said to him, "Are you Ziba? And he said, "Your servant is he. ³ And the king said, "Is there not yet any of the house of Saul, that I may show the kindness of God to him? And Ziba said to the king, Jonathan has yet a son, which is lame on his feet. ⁴ And the king said to him, "Where is he? And Ziba said to the king, Behold, he is in the house of Machir, the son of Ammiel, in Lodebar. ⁵ Then king David sent, and fetched him out of the house of Machir, the son of Ammiel, from Lodebar. ⁶ Now when Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, had come to David, he fell on his face, and did reverence. And David said, "Mephibosheth. And he answered, Behold your servant! ⁷ And David said to him, "Fear not: For I will surely show you kindness for Jonathan your father's sake, and will restore you all the land of Saul your father; and you shall eat bread at my table continually. ⁸ And he bowed himself, and said, "What is your servant, that you should look on such a dead dog as I am? ⁹ Then the king called to Ziba, Saul's servant, and said to him, "I have given to your master's son all that pertained to Saul and to all his house. ¹⁰ You therefore, and your sons, and your servants, shall till the land for him, and you shall bring in the fruits, that your master's son may have food to eat: But Mephibosheth your master's son shall eat bread always at my table. Now Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants. ¹¹ Then said Ziba to the king, According to all that my lord the king has commanded his servant, so shall your servant do. As for Mephibosheth, said the king, he shall eat at my table, as one of the king's sons. ¹² And Mephibosheth had a young son, whose name was Micha. And all that dwelled in the house of Ziba were servants to Mephibosheth. ¹³ So Mephibosheth dwelled in Jerusalem: For he ate continually at the king's table; and was lame on both his feet.

¹⁴ For if you altogether hold your peace at this time, then enlargement and deliverance shall arise to the Jews from another place; but you and your father's house shall be destroyed: And who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?"

²⁴ A man that has friends must show himself friendly: And there is a friend that sticks closer than a brother.

⁷ All the brothers of the poor do hate him: How much more do his friends go far from him? He pursues them with words, yet they are absent from him.

¹³ Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. ¹⁴ You are My friends, if you do whatever I command you.

¹¹ For both He that sanctifies and those who are sanctified are all of one: For which reason He is not ashamed to call them brethren,

¹ My son, if you be surety for your friend, if you have shaken your hand in pledge with a stranger, ² you are snared with the words of your mouth, you are taken with the words of your mouth. ³ Do this now, my son, and deliver yourself, when you have come into the hand of your friend; go, humble yourself, and so shall you prevail with your friend. ⁴ Do not give sleep to your eyes, nor slumber to your eyelids. ⁵ Deliver yourself as a gazelle from the hand of the hunter, and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.

¹⁵ He that is surety for a stranger shall smart for it: And he that hates suretyship is secure.

¹⁶ Take his garment that is surety for a stranger: And take a pledge from him for a strange woman.

¹⁶ He that oppresses the poor to increase his riches, and he that gives to the rich, shall surely come to want.

²⁶ Do not be one of those that strike hands, or of those that are surety for debts. ²⁷ If you have nothing to pay, why should he take away your bed from under you?

³⁶ And Abigail came to Nabal; and behold, he held a feast in his house, like the feast of a king; and Nabal's heart was merry within him, for he was very drunk: Therefore she told him nothing, less or more, until the morning light. ³⁷ But it came to pass in the morning, when the wine was gone out of Nabal, and his wife had told him these things, that his heart died within him, and he became as a stone. ³⁸ And it came to pass about ten days after, that the LORD smote Nabal, that he died.

¹ And it came to pass after this, that Absalom prepared him chariots and horses, and fifty men to run before him.

⁵ Then Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying, "I will be king: And he prepared him chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him.

¹⁸ Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.

¹⁴ The beginning of strife is as when one lets out water: Therefore leave off contention, before it be meddled with.

¹² Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honor is humility.

²⁷ Prepare your work outside, and make it fit for yourself in the field; and afterwards build your house.

⁹ If a wise man contends with a foolish man, whether he rage or laugh, there is no rest.

²² An angry man stirs up strife, and a furious man abounds in transgression. ²³ A man's pride shall bring him low: But honor shall uphold the humble in spirit.

¹³ Woe to him who builds his house by unrighteousness, and his chambers by wrong; who uses his neighbor's service without wages, and gives him nothing for his work; ¹⁴ who said, 'I will build myself a wide house and large chambers, and cuts himself out windows; and it is paneled with cedar, and painted with vermilion.' ¹⁵ Shall you reign, because you close yourself in cedar? Did not your father eat and drink, and do judgment and justice, and then it was well with him?

²⁰ The tree that you saw, which grew, and was strong, whose height reached to the heaven, and the sight of it to all the earth; ²¹ whose leaves were fair, and its fruit plentiful, and in it was food for all; under which the wild beasts of the field dwelt, and upon whose branches the birds of the heaven had their habitation:

²⁰ For I fear, lest, when I come, I shall not find you such as I desire, and that I shall be found by you such as you do not desire: Lest there be debates, envyings, wraths, strifes, backbitings, whisperings, swellings, tumults:

²⁰ For the wrath of man does not work the righteousness of God.

¹⁴ But if you have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, do not boast, and do not lie against the truth. ¹⁵ This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. ¹⁶ For where envying and strife are, there is confusion and every evil work.

²⁶ with the pure You will show Yourself pure; and with the froward You will show Yourself froward.

³² For the froward is abomination to the LORD: But His secret is with the righteous.

¹² A naughty person, a wicked man, walks with a froward mouth. ¹³ He winks with his eyes, he speaks with his feet, he teaches with his fingers; ¹⁴ frowardness is in his heart, he devises mischief continually; he sows discord. ¹⁵ Therefore his calamity shall come suddenly; suddenly he shall be broken without remedy.

¹³ The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: Pride, and arrogance, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, I do hate.

¹⁰ He that winks with the eye causes sorrow: But a prating fool shall fall.

¹⁴ Wise men lay up knowledge: But the mouth of the foolish is near destruction.

³¹ The mouth of the just brings forth wisdom: But the froward tongue shall be cut out.

⁶ A fool's lips enter into contention, and his mouth calls for strokes. ⁷ A fool's mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.

¹² The words of a wise man's mouth are gracious; but the lips of a fool will swallow himself up.

⁶ And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: Thus is the tongue among our members, that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell. ⁷ For every kind of beast, and birds, serpents, and things in the sea are tamed, and have been tamed by mankind: ⁸ But no man can tame the tongue; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.

³⁴ And Esau was forty years old when he took to wife Judith the daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and Bashemath the daughter of Elon the Hittite:

³² And you shall see an enemy in My habitation, in all the wealth which God shall give Israel: And there shall not be an old man in your house forever. ³³ And the man of yours, whom I shall not cut off from My altar, shall be to consume your eyes, and to grieve your heart: And all the increase of your house shall die in the flower of their age. ³⁴ And this shall be a sign to you, that shall come upon your two sons, on Hophni and Phinehas; in one day they shall die, both of them. ³⁵ And I will raise Myself up a faithful priest, that shall do according to that which is in My heart and in My mind: And I will build him a sure house; and he shall walk before My anointed forever.

³ And his sons did not walk in his ways, but turned aside after dishonest gain, and took bribes, and perverted judgment.

³³ And the king was much moved, and went up to the chamber over the gate, and wept: And as he went, thus he said, "O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! Would God I had died for you, O Absalom, my son, my son!

¹ The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son makes a glad father: But a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother.

²⁰ A wise son makes a glad father: But a foolish man despises his mother.

²⁵ A foolish son is a grief to his father, and bitterness to her that bore him.

¹³ A foolish son is the calamity of his father: And the contentions of a wife are a continual dropping.

¹⁵ My son, if your heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine. ¹⁶ Yes, my reins shall rejoice, when your lips speak right things.

³ And I wrote this very thing to you, lest, when I came, I should have sorrow from those of whom I ought to rejoice; having confidence in you all, that my joy is the joy of you all.

¹⁹ I Paul have written it with my own hand, I will repay it: Albeit I do not say to you how you owe to me even your own self besides. ²⁰ Yes, brother, let me have joy of you in the Lord: Refresh my bowels in the Lord.

⁴ I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

¹⁵ My strength is dried up like a broken clay pot fragment; and My tongue sticks to My jaws; and you have brought Me into the dust of death.

³ When I kept silence, my bones waxed old through my roaring all the day long. ⁴ For day and night your hand was heavy upon me: My moisture is turned into the drought of summer. Selah.

³ For my days are consumed up like smoke, and my bones are burned as a hearth. ⁴ My heart is stricken, and withered like grass; so that I forget to eat my bread. ⁵ By reason of the voice of my groaning, my bones cleave to my skin.

²⁵ Heaviness in the heart of man makes it stoop: But a good word makes it glad.

¹³ A merry heart makes a cheerful countenance: But by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.

¹⁴ The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear?

⁷ Go your way, eat your bread with joy, and drink your wine with a merry heart; God accepts your works for now. ⁸ Let your garments be always white; and let your head lack no ointment. ⁹ Live joyfully with the wife whom you love all the days of the life of your vanity, which he has given you under the sun, all the days of your vanity: For that is your portion in this life, and in your labor which you toil under the sun.

² By whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. ³ And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations: Knowing that tribulation works patience; ⁴ and patience, experience; and experience, hope: ⁵ Now hope does not make us ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit which is given to us.

⁷ So that on the contrary you ought rather to forgive him, and comfort him, lest perhaps such a one should be swallowed up with too much sorrow.

¹⁰ For godly sorrow works out repentance to salvation, not to be regretted: But the sorrow of the world works death.

³ Behold, here I am: Witness against me before the LORD, and before his anointed: Whose ox have I taken? Or whose donkey have I taken? Or whom have I defrauded? Whom have I oppressed? Or from whose hand have I received any bribe to blind my eyes with it? And I will restore it to you.

⁸ A gift is as a precious stone in the eyes of him that has it: Wherever it turns, it prospers.

¹⁶ A man's gift makes room for him, and brings him before great men.

¹² In you they have taken gifts to shed blood; you have taken usury and increase, and you have greedily gained from your neighbors by extortion, and have forgotten Me", said the Lord GOD.

¹¹ The heads of it judge for reward, and its priests teach for hire, and its prophets divine for money: Yet they will lean upon the LORD, and say, "Is not the LORD among us? No evil can come upon us."

¹⁰ Then Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went to the chief priests to betray Him to them. ¹¹ And when they heard it, they were glad, and promised to give him money. Therefore he sought how he might conveniently betray Him.

³⁷ Turn away my eyes from beholding vanity; and You vivify me in Your way.

¹⁴ The heart of him that has understanding seeks knowledge: But the mouth of fools feeds on foolishness.

⁵ Will you set your eyes upon that which is not? For riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven.

¹⁴ The wise man's eyes are in his head; but the fool walks in darkness: And I myself also perceived that one event happens to them all.

⁹ Better is the sight of the eyes than the wandering of the desire: This also is vanity and vexation of spirit.

¹ And it came to pass after this, that Absalom the son of David had a fair sister, whose name was Tamar; and Amnon the son of David loved her. ² And Amnon was so vexed, that he fell sick for his sister Tamar; for she was a virgin; and Amnon thought it hard for him to do anything to her. ³ But Amnon had a friend, whose name was Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David's brother: And Jonadab was a very subtle man. ⁴ And he said to him, "Why are you, being the king's son, lean from day to day? Will you not tell me? And Amnon said to him, "I love Tamar, my brother Absalom's sister. ⁵ And Jonadab said to him, "Lay you down on your bed, and make yourself sick: And when your father comes to see you, say to him, I implore you, let my sister Tamar come, and give me meat, and dress the meat in my sight, that I may see it, and eat it at her hand. ⁶ So Amnon lay down, and made himself sick: And when the king had come to see him, Amnon said to the king, I implore you, let Tamar my sister come, and make me a couple of cakes in my sight, that I may eat at her hand. ⁷ Then David sent home to Tamar, saying, "Go now to your brother Amnon's house, and dress him meat. ⁸ So Tamar went to her brother Amnon's house; and he was laid down. And she took flour, and kneaded it, and made cakes in his sight, and did bake the cakes. ⁹ And she took a pan, and poured them out before him; but he refused to eat. And Amnon said, "Have out all men from me. And they went out every man from him. ¹⁰ And Amnon said to Tamar, "Bring the meat into the chamber, that I may eat of your hand. And Tamar took the cakes which she had made, and brought them into the chamber to Amnon her brother. ¹¹ And when she had brought them to him to eat, he took hold of her, and said to her, "Come lie with me, my sister. ¹² And she answered him, No, my brother, do not force me; for no such thing ought to be done in Israel: Do not you this folly. ¹³ And I, where shall I cause my shame to go? And as for you, you shall be as one of the fools in Israel. Now therefore, I implore you, speak to the king; for he will not withhold me from you. ¹⁴ However, he would not hearken to her voice: But, being stronger than she, forced her, and lay with her. ¹⁵ Then Amnon hated her exceedingly; so that the hatred with which he hated her was greater than the love with which he had loved her. And Amnon said to her, "Arise, be gone. ¹⁶ And she said to him, "There is no cause: This evil in sending me away is greater than the other that you did to me. But he would not listen to her. ¹⁷ Then he called his servant that ministered to him, and said, "Put now this woman out from me, and bolt the door after her. ¹⁸ And she had a garment of diverse colors on her: For with such robes were the king's daughters that were virgins appareled. Then his servant brought her out, and bolted the door after her. ¹⁹ And Tamar put ashes on her head, and rent her garment of diverse colors that was on her, and laid her hand on her head, and went on crying. ²⁰ And Absalom her brother said to her, "Has Amnon your brother been with you? But hold now your peace, my sister: He is your brother; regard not this thing. So Tamar remained desolate in her brother Absalom's house. ²¹ But when king David heard of all these things, he was very wroth. ²² And Absalom spoke to his brother Amnon neither good nor bad: For Absalom hated Amnon, because he had forced his sister Tamar.

¹⁸ Yes, I hated all my labor in which I toiled under the sun: Because I should leave it to the man that shall be after me. ¹⁹ And who knows whether he shall be a wise man or a fool? Yet he shall have rule over all my labor in which I have labored, and in which I have showed myself wise under the sun. This also is vanity.

²⁵ Far be it from You to do hurt in this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: And that the righteous should be as the wicked, far be it from You: Shall the Judge of all the earth not do right?"

²³ When Joab and all the host that was with him were come, they told Joab, saying, "Abner the son of Ner came to the king, and he has sent him away, and he is gone in peace. ²⁴ Then Joab came to the king, and said, "What have you done? Behold, Abner came to you; why is it that you have sent him away, and he is quite gone? ²⁵ You know Abner the son of Ner, that he came to deceive you, and to know your going out and your coming in, and to know all that you do.

³⁹ And I am this day weak, though anointed king; and these men the sons of Zeruiah be too hard for me: The LORD shall reward the doer of evil according to his wickedness.

⁷ And thus said Shimei when he cursed, Come out, come out, you bloody man, and you man of Belial: ⁸ The LORD has returned on you all the blood of the house of Saul, in whose stead you have reigned; and the LORD has delivered the kingdom into the hand of Absalom your son: And behold, you are taken in your mischief, because you are a bloody man.

⁷ Now therefore arise, go forth, and speak comfortably to your servants: For I swear by the LORD, if you go not forth, there will not tarry one with you this night: And that will be worse to you than all the evil that befell you from your youth until now.

¹⁸ Is it fit to say to a king, You are wicked? And to princes, You are ungodly? ¹⁹ How much less to him that accepts not the persons of princes, nor regards the rich more than the poor? For they all are the work of his hands.

¹⁵ He that justifies the wicked, and he that comdemns the just, even both of them are abomination to the LORD.

¹ Now gather yourself in troops, O daughter of troops: He has laid siege against us: They shall smite the judge of Israel upon the cheek with a rod.

²² And when He had spoken this, one of the officers who stood by struck Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying, "Do You answer the high priest in this manner?"

¹⁹ In the multitude of words sin is not lacking: But he that refrains his lips is wise.

²⁸ The heart of the righteous studies to answer: But the mouth of the wicked pours out evil things.

¹⁷ The words of wise men are heard in quiet more than the cry of him that rules among fools.

¹⁹ Therefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:

² For in many things we offend everyone. If any man does not offend in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.

¹⁸ And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those that make peace.

⁵ O that you would altogether hold your peace! And it should be your wisdom.

² The tongue of the wise uses knowledge aright: But the mouth of fools pours out foolishness.

³ For a dream comes through the multitude of business; and a fool's voice is known by a multitude of words.

³ Yes also, when he who is a fool walks by the way, his wisdom fails him, and he says to everyone that he is a fool.

¹⁴ A fool also is full of words: A man cannot tell what shall be; and who can tell him what shall be after him?
