²⁵ If one man sins against another, the judge shall judge him: But if a man sins against the LORD, who shall earnestly pray for him?" Nevertheless they did not hearken to the voice of their father, because the LORD would slay them.

¹ Hear, you children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding. ² For I give you good doctrine, do not forsake my law. ³ For I was my father's son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother. ⁴ He also taught me, and said to me, "Let your heart retain my words: Keep my commandments, and live. ⁵ Get wisdom, get understanding: Forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth. ⁶ Do not forsake, and she shall preserve you: Love her, and she shall keep you. ⁷ Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: And with all your getting get understanding. ⁸ Exalt her, and she shall promote you: She shall bring you to honor, when you do embrace her. ⁹ She shall give to your head an ornament of grace: A crown of glory she shall deliver to you. ¹⁰ Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of your life shall be many. ¹¹ I have taught you in the way of wisdom; I have led you in right paths. ¹² When you go, your steps shall not be hampered; and when you run, you shall not stumble. ¹³ Take firm hold of instruction; do not let her go: Keep her; for she is your life. ¹⁴ Do not enter into the path of the wicked, and do not go in the way of evil men.

²⁰ My son, attend to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. ²¹ Let them not depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart. ²² For they are life to those that find them, and health to all their flesh.

⁷ He that reproves a scorner gets shame to himself: And he that rebukes a wicked man gets himself a blemish. ⁸ Do not reprove a scorner, lest he hate you: Rebuke a wise man, and he will love you.

¹⁴ Why hear the word of the LORD, you scornful men, that rule this people who are in Jerusalem. ¹⁵ Because you have said, "We have made a covenant with death, and with hell we are in agreement; when the overflowing whip shall pass through, it shall not come to us: For we have made lies our refuge, and we have hid ourselves under falsehood:"

⁸ For in the hand of the LORD there is a cup, and the wine is red; it is full of mixture; and He pours out of the same: But its dregs, all the wicked of the earth shall wring them out, and drink them.

¹¹ Do not let an evil speaker be established in the earth: Evil shall hunt the violent man to overthrow him."

¹¹ If they say, "Come with us, let us lay in wait for blood, let us lurk privately for the innocent without cause: ¹² Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit: ¹³ We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil:

¹⁸ And they lay in wait for their own blood; they lurk privately for their own lives.

³¹ Therefore they shall eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.

¹⁷ For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.

¹¹ The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life: But violence covers the mouth of the wicked.

¹⁴ A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth: And the recompense of a man's hands shall be rendered to him.

²⁰ A man's belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.

²⁷ "Therefore you shall say to them, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; "Drink all of you, and be drunken, and spew, and fall, and rise no more, because of the sword which I will send among you." ' ²⁸ And it shall be, if they refuse to take the cup at your hand to drink, then you shall say to them, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts; "You shall certainly drink. ²⁹ For lo, I begin to bring evil on the city which is called by My name, and should you be utterly unpunished? You shall not be unpunished: For I will call for a sword on all the inhabitants of the earth", said the LORD of hosts.' ³⁰ Therefore prophesy you against them all these words, and say to them, 'The LORD shall roar from on high, and utter His voice from His holy habitation; He shall mightily roar on His habitation; He shall give a shout, as those who tread the grapes, against all the inhabitants of the earth. ³¹ A noise shall come even to the ends of the earth; for the LORD has a controversy with the nations, He will plead with all flesh; He will give those who are wicked to the sword', said the LORD."

⁸ Because you have spoiled many nations, all the remnant of the people shall spoil you; because of men's blood, and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell in it.

¹⁷ For the violence of Lebanon shall cover you, and the spoil of beasts, which made them afraid, because of men's blood, and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell in it.

⁶ For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and You have given them blood to drink; for they are worthy of such."

¹ To the chief Musician, even to Jeduthun, A Psalm of David. I said, "I will take heed to my ways, that I do not sin with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked are before me."

¹⁹ In the multitude of words sin is not lacking: But he that refrains his lips is wise.

¹³ The wicked is snared by the transgression of his lips: But the just shall come out of trouble.

⁷ A fool's mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.

²¹ Death and life are in the power of the tongue: And those that love it shall eat its fruit.

¹⁹ He that goes about as a talebearer reveals secrets: Therefore do not engage with him that flatters with his lips.

²³ Whoever keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps his soul from troubles.

³⁶ But I say to you that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account of it in the day of judgment. ³⁷ For by your words you shall be justified, and by your words you shall be condemned."

²⁶ If any man among you seems to be religious, and does not bridle his tongue, but deceives his own heart, this man's religion is vain.

² For in many things we offend everyone. If any man does not offend in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body. ³ Behold, we put bits in the horses' mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn around their whole body. ⁴ Behold also the ships, which although they are so large, and are driven by fierce winds, yet they are turned about with a very small rudder, to wherever the pilot inclines the ship. ⁵ Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasts great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindles! ⁶ And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: Thus is the tongue among our members, that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell. ⁷ For every kind of beast, and birds, serpents, and things in the sea are tamed, and have been tamed by mankind: ⁸ But no man can tame the tongue; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. ⁹ With it we bless God, even the Father; and with it we curse men, who are made in the similitude of God. ¹⁰ Out of the same mouth proceeds blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so. ¹¹ Does a fountain send forth fresh water and bitter at the same place? ¹² Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? Either can a vine, figs? So no fountain can yield both salt water and fresh.

¹⁰ Who can count the dust of Jacob, and the number of the fourth part of Israel? Let me die the death of the righteous, and let my last end be like his!

¹⁴ They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing;flourishing: In Hebrew, green

² so that you incline your ear to wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding; ³ yes, if you cry out after knowledge, and lift up your voice for understanding; ⁴ if you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures; ⁵ then you shall understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God. ⁶ For the LORD gives wisdom: Out of His mouth comes knowledge and understanding. ⁷ He lays up sound wisdom for the righteous: He is a buckler shield to those that walk uprightly. ⁸ He keeps the paths of judgment, and preserves the way of His saints. ⁹ Then you shall understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yes, every good path.

³⁴ Blessed is the man that hears me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.

⁴ He that deals with a slack hand becomes poor: But the hand of the diligent makes rich.

²⁵ The soul that blesses shall be made fat: And he that waters shall also be watered himself.

¹¹ He that tills his land shall be satisfied with bread: But he that follows vain persons is void of understanding.

²⁴ The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: But the slothful shall be under tribute.

¹³ The slothful man says, "There is a lion in the way; a lion is in the streets."

²⁵ He that is of a proud heart stirs up strife: But he that puts his trust in the LORD shall be made fat.

¹¹ And the LORD shall guide you continually, and satisfy your soul in drought, and make your bones fat: And you shall be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.

²⁷ Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man shall give to you: For God the Father has sealed Him."

¹¹ And we desire that every one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope to the end:

⁵ And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; ⁶ and to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; ⁷ and to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness love. ⁸ For if these things are in you, and abound, they make you such that you shall be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. ⁹ But he that lacks these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and has forgotten that he was purged from his old sins. ¹⁰ Therefore better yet, brethren, be diligent to make your calling and election sure: For if you do these things, you shall never fall: ¹¹ For after that an entrance shall abundantly be ministered to you into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

¹⁶³ I hate and abhor lying: But I do love Your law.

³⁵ The wise shall inherit glory: But shame shall be the promotion of fools.

¹⁷ A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

⁸ Remove far from me vanity and lies: Give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me:

⁹ And those of you who escape shall remember Me among the nations where they shall be carried captives, because I am broken with their whorish heart, which has departed from Me, and with their eyes, which go a whoring after their idols: And they shall loathe themselves for the evils which they have committed in all their abominations.

⁴³ And there you shall remember your ways, and all your doings, in which you have been defiled; and you shall loathe yourselves in your own sight for all your evils that you have committed.

³¹ Then you shall remember your own evil ways, and your doings that were not good, and shall loathe yourselves in your own sight for your iniquities and for your abominations.

² And many of those that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.

⁸ I also cut off three shepherds in one month; and my soul loathed them, and their soul also abhorred me.

²⁵ Therefore, putting away lying, "every man speak truth with his neighbor": For we are members of one another.

⁹ Do not lie to one another, seeing that you all have put off the old man with his deeds;you all: In KJV, ye; hence "you all" signifies a plural "you"

⁸ But the fearful, unbelieving, the abominable, murderers, whoremongers, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone: Which is the second death."

²³ For he sacrificed to the gods of Damascus, which smote him: And he said, "Because the gods of the kings of Syria help them, therefore will I sacrifice to them, that they may help me. But they were the ruin of him, and of all Israel.

² He that walks uprightly, and works righteousness, and speaks the truth in his heart.

²¹ Let integrity and uprightness preserve me; for I wait on You.

¹ A Psalm of David. Judge me, O LORD; for I have walked in my integrity: I have trusted also in the LORD; therefore I shall not slide.

²² His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be held with the cords of his sins.

³ The integrity of the upright shall guide them: But the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them.

⁵ The righteousness of the perfect shall direct his way: But the wicked shall fall by his own wickedness. ⁶ The righteousness of the upright shall deliver them: But transgressors shall be taken in their own naughtiness.

¹² The righteous man wisely considers the house of the wicked: But God overthrows the wicked for their wickedness.

²⁴ There is that which scatters, and yet increases; and there is that which withholds more than is right, but it tends to poverty.

⁹ He that is despised, and has a servant, is better than he that honors himself, and lacks bread.

¹¹ Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: But he that gathers by labor shall increase.

¹ Cast your bread upon the waters: For you shall find it after many days. ² Give a portion to seven, and also to eight; for you do not know what evil shall be on the earth.

²¹ So is he that lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God."

³³ Sell what you have, and give alms; provide yourselves bags which do not wax old, a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches, neither moth corrupts.

¹¹ The Pharisee stood and prayed in this manner with himself, 'God, I thank You that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. ¹² I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.' ¹³ And the publican, standing afar off, would not so much as lift up his eyes to heaven, but smote his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me a sinner.' ¹⁴ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: For everyone who exalts himself shall be abased; and he that humbles himself shall be exalted."

⁸ Now you are full, now you are rich, you have reigned as kings without us: And I pray to God you did reign, that we also might reign with you.

¹⁰ We are fools for Christ's sake, but you are wise in Christ; we are weak, but you are strong; you are honorable, but we are despised. ¹¹ Even to this present hour we both hunger, and thirst, and are naked, and are beaten, and have no certain dwelling place;

⁷ But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.

¹⁰ as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.

⁵ Hearken, my beloved brethren, has not God chosen the poor of this world to be rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which He has promised to those that love Him?

¹⁹ While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: For by whom a man is overcome, by the same he is brought into bondage.

⁹ "I know your works, tribulation, and poverty (but you are rich), and I know the blasphemy of those which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan.

¹⁷ Because you say, 'I am rich, and am increased with goods, and have need of nothing'; but do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked:

³⁰ If there is laid on him a sum of money, then he shall give for the ransom of his life whatever is laid upon him.

¹⁴ And he carried away all Jerusalem, and all the princes, and all the mighty men of valor, even ten thousand captives, and all the craftsmen and smiths: None remained, save the poorest sort of the people of the land.

¹² But the captain of the guard left of the door of the poor of the land to be vinedressers and farmers.

⁴ And Satan answered the LORD, and said, "Skin for skin, yes, all that a man has will he give for his life.

⁶ Those that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches; ⁷ none of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him: ⁸ (For the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceases forever): ⁹ That he should still live forever, and not see corruption. ¹⁰ For he sees that wise men die, likewise the fool and the brutish person perish, and leave their wealth to others.

³⁵ He will not regard any ransom; neither will he rest content, though you give many gifts.

¹⁰ But Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard left the poor of the people, which had nothing, in the land of Judah, and gave them vineyards and fields at the same time.

⁸ But ten men were found among them who said to Ishmael, "Do not slay us: For we have treasures in the field, of wheat, and of barley, and of oil, and of honey." So he declined, and did not slay them among their brothers.

¹² I will also leave an afflicted and poor people in the midst of you, and they shall trust in the name of the LORD.

²⁶ For what is a man profited, if he gains the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

¹⁸ Consider that as you know you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; ¹⁹ but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

³⁶ And to his son will I give one tribe, that David my servant may have a light always before me in Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen me to put my name there.

⁵ Yes, the light of the wicked shall be put out, and the spark of his fire shall not shine. ⁶ The light shall be dark in his tabernacle, and his candle shall be put out with him.

¹⁷ How oft is the candle of the wicked put out! And how oft comes their destruction on them! God distributes sorrows in his anger.

³ when his candle shined on my head, and when by his light I walked through darkness;

¹¹ Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart.

⁴ To the upright there arises light in the darkness: He is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous.

¹⁸ But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shines more and more to the perfect day.

²⁰ Whoever curses his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in obscure darkness.

²⁰ For there shall be no reward to the evil man; the candle of the wicked shall be put out.

¹⁰ Who is among you that fears the LORD, that obeys the voice of His Servant, that walks in darkness, and has no light? Let him trust in the name of the LORD, and rely upon his God. ¹¹ Behold, all you that kindle a fire, that compass yourselves about with sparks: Walk in the light of your fire, and in the sparks that you have kindled. This you shall have from My hand; you shall lie down in sorrow."

¹³ Then the king said to the servants, 'Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.'

⁸ And the foolish said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil; for our lamps have gone out.'

¹ And the men of Ephraim said to him, "Why have you served us thus, that you called us not, when you went to fight with the Midianites? And they did chide with him sharply. ² And he said to them, "What have I done now in comparison of you? Is not the gleaning of the grapes of Ephraim better than the vintage of Abiezer? ³ God has delivered into your hands the princes of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb: And what was I able to do in comparison of you? Then their anger was abated toward him, when he had said that.

¹ And the men of Ephraim gathered themselves together, and went northward, and said to Jephthah, "Why passed you over to fight against the children of Ammon, and did not call us to go with you? We will burn your house on you with fire. ² And Jephthah said to them, "I and my people were at great strife with the children of Ammon; and when I called you, you delivered me not out of their hands. ³ And when I saw that you delivered me not, I put my life in my hands, and passed in front of the children of Ammon, and the LORD delivered them into my hand: Why then are you come up to me this day, to fight against me? ⁴ Then Jephthah gathered together all the men of Gilead, and fought with Ephraim: And the men of Gilead smote Ephraim, because they said, "You Gileadites are fugitives of Ephraim among the Ephraimites, and among the Manassites. ⁵ And the Gileadites took the passages of Jordan before the Ephraimites: And it was so, that when those Ephraimites which were escaped said, "Let me go over; that the men of Gilead said to him, "Are you an Ephraimite? If he said, "No; ⁶ then said they to him, Say now Shibboleth: And he said Sibboleth: For he could not frame to pronounce it right. Then they took him, and slew him at the passages of Jordan: And there fell at that time of the Ephraimites forty and two thousand.

¹⁰ And the young men that were grown up with him spoke to him, saying, "Thus shall you speak to this people that spoke to you, saying, "Your father made our yoke heavy, but make you it lighter to us; thus shall you say to them, My little finger shall be thicker than my father's loins. ¹¹ And now whereas my father did lade you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke: My father has chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.

¹⁶ So when all Israel saw that the king did not hearken to them, the people answered the king, saying, "What portion have we in David? Neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse: To your tents, O Israel: Now see to your own house, David. So Israel departed to their tents.

¹⁰ You have indeed smitten Edom, and your heart has lifted you up: Glory of this, and tarry at home: For why should you meddle to your hurt, that you should fall, even you, and Judah with you?

¹⁵ The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: But he that hearkens to counsel is wise. ¹⁶ A fool's wrath is presently known: But a prudent man covers shame.

¹⁴ The beginning of strife is as when one lets out water: Therefore leave off contention, before it be meddled with.

²⁰ Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that you may be wise in your latter end.

¹⁸ Every purpose is established by counsel: And with good advice make war.

²⁴ Proud and haughty scorner is his name, who deals in proud wrath.

⁸ Do not go hastily forth to strive, lest you know not what to do in the end of it, when your neighbor has put you to shame.

²⁸ For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first, and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it? ²⁹ Lest perhaps, after he has laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him, ³⁰ saying, 'This man began to build, and was not able to finish.' ³¹ Or what king, going to make war against another king, does not sit down first, and consult whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him that comes against him with twenty thousand? ³² Or else, while the other is still a great way off, he sends a delegation, and desires conditions of peace.

²⁴ Moreover there also was strife among them, as to which of them should be deemed the greatest.

¹ Now in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring by the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration. ² Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples to them, and said, "It is not reasonable that we should leave the Word of God, and serve tables. ³ Therefore, brethren, seek out from among you seven men of honest repute, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business. ⁴ But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word." ⁵ And the saying pleased the whole multitude: And they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, and Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte from Antioch:

⁴ he is proud, knowing nothing, but regards questions and strifes of words with excessive fondness, from which comes envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,

¹⁴ But if you have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, do not boast, and do not lie against the truth. ¹⁵ This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. ¹⁶ For where envying and strife are, there is confusion and every evil work.

¹ From what source do wars and fighting come from among you? Do they not come from this, even out of your lusts that war in your members?

⁵ Do you think that the scripture says in vain, "The Spirit that dwells in us lusts to envy"? ⁶ But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble."

⁹ I wrote to the church: But Diotrephes, who loves to have the preeminence among them, does not receive us. ¹⁰ Therefore, if I come, I will remember his deeds which he does, prating against us with malicious words: And not content with that, neither does he himself receive the brethren, and forbids those that would receive them, and drives them out of the church.

²⁸ And he dwells in desolate cities, and in houses which no man inhabits, which are ready to become heaps. ²⁹ He shall not be rich, neither shall his substance continue, neither shall he prolong its perfection on the earth.

¹⁵ He has swallowed down riches, and he shall vomit them up again: God shall cast them out of his belly.

¹⁹ Because he has oppressed and has forsaken the poor; because he has violently taken away a house which he built not; ²⁰ surely he shall not feel quietness in his belly, he shall not save of that which he desired. ²¹ There shall none of his meat be left; therefore shall no man look for his goods. ²² In the fullness of his sufficiency he shall be in straits: Every hand of the wicked shall come on him.

¹⁶ Though he heap up silver as the dust, and prepare clothing as the clay; ¹⁷ he may prepare it, but the just shall put it on, and the innocent shall divide the silver.

² For you shall eat the labor of your hands: Happy shall you be, and it shall be well with you.

² Treasures of wickedness profit nothing: But righteousness delivers from death.

²² A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children: And the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just. ²³ Much food is in the tilled land of the poor: But there is that which is destroyed for absence of judgment.

²¹ An inheritance may be obtained hastily at the beginning; but the end of it shall not be blessed.

²³ Be diligent to know the state of your flocks, and look well to your herds. ²⁴ For riches are not forever: And does the crown endure to every generation? ²⁵ The hay appears, and the tender grass shows itself, and herbs of the mountains are gathered. ²⁶ The lambs are for your clothing, and the goats are the price of the field. ²⁷ And you shall have enough goats' milk for your food, for the food of your household, and for the sustenance of your maidens.

⁸ He that by usury and unjust gain increases his substance, he shall gather it for him that will pity the poor.

²⁰ A faithful man shall abound with blessings: But he that makes haste to be rich shall not be innocent.

²² He that hastens to be rich has an evil eye, and does not consider that poverty shall come upon him.

¹⁴ But those riches perish by evil travail: And he begets a son, and there is nothing in his hand.

¹¹ As the partridge sits on eggs, and does not hatch them; so he who gets riches not rightly, shall leave them in the midst of his days, and at his end shall be a fool."

⁶ Shall not all these take up a parable against him, and a taunting proverb against him, and say, 'Woe to him that increases that which is not his! How long? And woe to him that lades himself with thick clay!'? ⁷ Shall they not rise up suddenly that will bite you, and awake that shall vex you, and you shall be for booty to them?

¹ Go now, you rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you. ² Your riches are corrupted, and your clothes are moth-eaten. ³ Your gold and silver are cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as if it were fire. You have heaped treasure together for the last days. ⁴ Behold, the wages of the laborers who have harvested your fields, which you partially kept back by fraud, cries out: And the cries of those which have reaped have entered into the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth. ⁵ You have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; you have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter.

⁶ And Sarah said, "God has made me to laugh, so that all that hear will laugh with me." ⁷ And she said, "Who would have said to Abraham, that Sarah should suckle children? For I have borne him a son in his old age."

³⁰ And Israel said to Joseph, "Now let me die, since I have seen your face, because you are still alive."

²⁶ And she said, "O, my lord, as your soul lives, my lord, I am the woman that stood by you here, praying to the LORD; ²⁷ for this child I prayed; and the LORD has given me my petition which I asked of Him: ²⁸ Therefore I also have lent him to the LORD; as long as he lives he shall be lent to the LORD." And he worshiped the LORD there.

¹⁵ As for me, I will behold Your face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with Your likeness.

² He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings forth. ³ And He has put a new song in my mouth, even praise to our God: Many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.

¹ To the chief Musician, Maschil, for the sons of Korah. As the hart pants after the water brooks, so pants my soul after You, O God. ² My soul thirsts for God, for the living God: When shall I come and appear before God? ³ My tears have been my food day and night, while they continually say to me, "Where is your God?"

³ I am weary of my crying: My throat is dried: My eyes fail while I wait for my God.

⁸¹ CAPH: My soul faints for Your salvation: But I hope in Your word. ⁸² My eyes fail for Your word, saying, "When will You comfort me?" ⁸³ For I have become like a bottle in the smoke; yet I do not forget Your statutes.

⁷ Hear me speedily, O LORD; my spirit fails: Do not hide Your face from me, lest I be like those that go down into the pit.

¹⁸ She is a tree of life to those that lay hold upon her: And happy is everyone that retains her.

³⁰ The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that wins souls is wise.

¹⁹ The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul: But to fools it is abomination to depart from evil.

⁸ I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem, if you find my beloved, that you tell him, that I am sick with love.

²⁹ "Lord, now let Your servant depart in peace, according to Your word: ³⁰ For my eyes have seen Your salvation,

²² Therefore you now have sorrow: But I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and no man will take your joy from you.

² In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, there was the tree of life, which bore twelve kinds of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: And the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.

³¹ Because he has despised the word of the LORD, and has broken his commandment, that soul shall utterly be cut off; his iniquity shall be on him.

⁹ Why have you despised the commandment of the LORD, to do evil in his sight? You have killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and have taken his wife to be your wife, and have slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon. ¹⁰ Now therefore the sword shall never depart from your house; because you have despised me, and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.

¹⁶ But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till there was no remedy.

³ Now therefore let us make a covenant with our God to put away all the wives, and such as are born of them, according to the counsel of my lord, and of those that tremble at the commandment of our God; and let it be done according to the law.

¹¹ Moreover, by them Your servant is warned: And in keeping them there is great reward.

¹³ He will bless those who fear the LORD, both small and great.

¹⁶⁵ Those who love Your law have great peace: And nothing shall offend them.

²⁵ but you have disregarded all my counsel, and would have none of my reproof:

³⁰ They would have none of my counsel: They despised all my reproof. ³¹ Therefore they shall eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.

²¹ Evil pursues sinners: But to the righteous good shall be repaid.

² For all those things My hand has made, and all those things have been in existence", said the LORD: "but to this man I will look, even to him who is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembles at My word.

² then Azariah the son of Hoshaiah, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the proud men spoke, saying to Jeremiah, "You speak falsely: The LORD our God has not sent you to say, 'Do not go into Egypt to sojourn there':

¹⁶ "As for the word that you have spoken to us in the name of the LORD, we will not listen to you. ¹⁷ But we will certainly do whatever thing goes forth out of our own mouth, to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings to her, as we have done, we, and our fathers, our kings, and our princes, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem: For then we had plenty of food, and were well, and saw no evil.

¹³ But the house of Israel rebelled against Me in the wilderness: They did not walk in My statutes, and they despised My judgments, which if a man do, he shall even live in them; and they greatly polluted My Sabbaths: Then I said, 'I will pour out My fury upon them in the wilderness, to consume them.'

¹⁶ because they despised My judgments, and did not walk in My statutes, but polluted My Sabbaths: For their heart went after their idols.

²⁴ because they had not executed My judgments, but had despised My statutes, and had polluted My Sabbaths, and their eyes were after their fathers' idols.

¹⁶ Then those that feared the LORD spoke to one another often: And the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before Him for those that feared the LORD, and that thought upon His name.

¹² Rejoice, and be exceedingly glad: For great is your reward in heaven: For in like manner they persecuted the prophets which were before you.

³¹ But he said to him, 'If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rise from the dead.' "

²⁸ He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: ²⁹ Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, shall he be thought worthy, who has tread underfoot the Son of God, and has counted the blood of the covenant, with which he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and has extreme malice toward the Spirit of grace?

⁸ Look to yourselves, that we do not lose those things which we have worked for, but that we receive a full reward.

⁶ the sorrows of hell compassed me about; the snares of death prevented me; ⁷ in my distress I called on the LORD, and cried out to my God: And he did hear my voice out of his temple, and my cry did enter into his ears.

⁵ The sorrows of hell compassed around me: The snares of death hindered me.

³ The sorrows of death compassed around me, and the pains of hell took hold upon me: I found trouble and sorrow.

¹¹ For by me your days shall be multiplied, and the years of your life shall be increased.

²⁷ The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

²⁴ The way of life is above to the wise, that he may depart from hell beneath.

⁶ By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: And by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.

¹⁷ The highway of the upright is to depart from evil: He that keeps his way preserves his soul.

²² Understanding is a wellspring of life to him that has it: But the instruction of fools is folly.

¹⁴ And David behaved himself wisely in all his ways; and the LORD was with him. ¹⁵ Therefore when Saul saw that he behaved himself very wisely, he was afraid of him. ¹⁶ But all Israel and Judah loved David, because he went out and came in before them.

⁹ When your fathers tempted Me, proved Me, and saw My work. ¹⁰ For forty long years I was grieved with this generation, and said, 'It is a people that err in their heart, and they have not known My ways': ¹¹ To whom I swore in My wrath that they should not enter into My rest."

¹⁰ The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: A good understanding have all those who do His commandments: His praise endures forever.

⁴ So you shall find favor and good understanding in the sight of God and man.

¹⁹ The way of the wicked is as darkness: They know not at what they stumble.

³⁵ The king's favor is toward a wise servant: But his wrath is against him that causes shame.

¹⁰ Correction is grievous to him that forsakes the way: And he that hates reproof shall die.

¹⁹ Your own wickedness shall correct you, and your backslidings shall reprove you: Know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that you have forsaken the LORD your God, and that My fear is not in you", said the Lord GOD of hosts.

⁵² And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.

¹⁰ and delivered him out of all his afflictions, and gave him favor and wisdom in the sight of Pharaoh king of Egypt; and he made him governor over Egypt and all his house.

²¹ What fruit did you have then in those things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death.

¹⁰ And Nabal answered David's servants, and said, "Who is David? And who is the son of Jesse? There are many servants now a days, certain men, that break away from their master. ¹¹ Shall I then take my bread, and my water, and my flesh that I have killed for my shearers, and give it to men, whom I do not know where they are from?

¹⁷ Now therefore know and consider what you will do; for evil is determined against our master, and against all his household: For he is such a son of Belial, that a man cannot speak to him."

²⁵ Let not my lord, I implore you, regard this man of Belial, even Nabal: For as his name is, so is he; Nabal is his name, and folly is with him: But I, your handmaid, did not see the young men of my lord, whom you sent.

⁵ A good man shows favor, and lends: He will guide his affairs with discretion.

²² Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: But those that deal truly are His delight. ²³ A prudent man conceals knowledge: But the heart of fools proclaims foolishness.

² The tongue of the wise uses knowledge aright: But the mouth of fools pours out foolishness.

³ Yes also, when he who is a fool walks by the way, his wisdom fails him, and he says to everyone that he is a fool.

¹³ Behold, My servant shall deal prudently, He shall be exalted and extolled, and be very high.

¹⁶ Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: Therefore be wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.

¹⁹ For your obedience has become known to everyone. Therefore I am glad on your behalf: But I would still have you be wise to that which is good, and simple concerning evil.

²⁰ Brethren, do not be children in understanding: Yet in malice be children, but in understanding be men.

¹⁷ Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

²⁶ As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to those that send him.

¹³ As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to those that send him: For he refreshes the soul of his masters.

²³ The north wind drives away rain: So does an angry countenance a backbiting tongue.

⁶ He that sends a message by the hand of a fool cuts off the feet, and drinks damage.

¹³ "And I have seen folly in the prophets of Samaria; they prophesied in Baal, and caused My people Israel to err. ¹⁴ I have also seen a horrible thing in the prophets of Jerusalem: They commit adultery and walk in lies: They also strengthen the hands of evildoers, so that no one returns from his wickedness; they are, all of them, as Sodom to Me, and her inhabitants like Gomorrah. ¹⁵ Therefore thus says the LORD of hosts concerning the prophets; 'Behold, I will feed them with wormwood, and make them drink the water of gall: For from the prophets of Jerusalem has profaneness gone forth into all the land.' " ¹⁶ Thus says the LORD of hosts, "Do not listen to the words of the prophets who prophesy to you: They make you vain: They speak a vision of their own heart, and not out of the mouth of the LORD.

²⁸ The prophet who has a dream, let him tell a dream; and he who has My word, let him speak My word faithfully. What is the chaff to the wheat?" said the LORD.

¹⁸ When I say to the wicked, 'You shall surely die'; and you do not give him warning, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at your hand.

⁷ So you, O son of man, I have set you a watchman to the house of Israel; therefore you shall hear the Word at My mouth, and warn them from Me. ⁸ When I say to the wicked, 'O wicked man, you shall surely die'; if you do not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but I will require his blood at your hand.

² Moreover, it is required in stewards that a man be found faithful.

¹⁷ For we are not as many, which corrupt the Word of God: But out of sincerity, but as from God, in the sight of God we speak in Christ.

²⁰ Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God implored you through us: We make request of you on Christ's behalf, be reconciled to God.

¹² And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has enabled me, for He counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry;

² And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit the same to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.

⁵ Let the righteous smite me; it shall be a kindness: And let him reprove me; it shall be an excellent oil, which shall not break my head: Notwithstanding, my prayer shall also be made throughout their calamities.

⁹ Lest you give your honor to others, and your years to the cruel: ¹⁰ Lest strangers be filled with your wealth; and your labors be in the house of a stranger; ¹¹ and at the end you mourn, when your flesh and your body are consumed, ¹² and say, "How I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof; ¹³ and have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined my ear to those that instructed me! ¹⁴ I was almost surrounded by evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly."

⁹ Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: Teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.

¹ Whoever loves instruction loves knowledge: But he that hates reproof is brutish.

¹³ Whoever despises the Word shall be destroyed: But he that fears the commandment shall be rewarded.

³¹ The ear that hears the reproof of life abides among the wise. ³² He that refuses instruction despises his own soul: But he that hears reproof gets understanding.

⁶ Many will entreat the favor of the prince: And every man is a friend to him that gives gifts.

¹² As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.

³ O LORD, are not your eyes upon the truth? You have stricken them, but they have not grieved; You have consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction: They have made their faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return. ⁴ Therefore I said, "Surely these are poor; they are foolish: For they do not know the way of the LORD, nor the judgment of their God. ⁵ I will go myself to the great men, and will speak to them; for they have known the way of the LORD, and the judgment of their God: But these have altogether broken the yoke, and burst the bonds. ⁶ Why a lion out of the forest shall slay them, and a wolf of the evenings shall spoil them, a leopard shall watch over their cities: Every one who goes out there shall be torn in pieces: Because their transgressions are many, and their backslidings have increased. ⁷ How shall I pardon you for this? Your children have forsaken me, and sworn by those that are not gods: When I had fed them to the full, they then committed adultery, and assembled themselves by troops in the harlots' houses. ⁸ They were like fed horses in the morning: Every one neighed after his neighbor's wife. ⁹ Shall I not visit them for these things?" said the LORD: "and shall My soul not be avenged on such a nation as this?

²⁵ See that you do not refuse Him that speaks. For if those who refused 'Him that spoke on earth' did not escape, much more we shall not escape, if we turn away from Him that speaks from heaven:

⁴⁸ And also thus said the king, 'Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, which has given one to sit on my throne this day, my eyes even seeing it.' "

²⁸ And to man he said, "Behold, the fear of the LORD, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.

¹ To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. The king shall take joy in Your strength, O LORD; and how greatly shall he rejoice in Your salvation! ² You have given him his heart's desire, and have not withheld the request of his lips. Selah.

¹⁴ Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.

²⁷ Depart from evil, and do good; and dwell forevermore.

⁷ Do not be wise in your own eyes: Fear the LORD, and depart from evil.

¹² Hope deferred makes the heart sick: But when the desire comes, it is a tree of life.

²⁷ An unjust man is an abomination to the just: And he that is upright in the way is abomination to the wicked.

⁴ It was but a little I passed from them, when I found him whom my soul loves: I held him, and would not let him go, until I had brought him into my mother's house, and into the chamber of her who conceived me.

¹⁹ Nevertheless the foundation of God stands sure, having this seal: "The Lord knows those that are His." And, "Let everyone that names the name of Christ depart from iniquity."

⁷ I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: ⁸ Furthermore, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, shall give me in that day: And not to me only, but also to all those that love His appearing.

¹⁴ And I said to him, "Sir, you know." So he said to me, "These are those which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. ¹⁵ Therefore they are before the throne of God, and serve Him day and night in His temple: And He that sits on the throne shall dwell among them. ¹⁶ They shall hunger no more, neither thirst anymore; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat. ¹⁷ For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them to living fountains of waters: And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes."

¹² Abram dwelled in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelled in the cities of the plain, and pitched his tent toward Sodom. ¹³ But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the LORD, exceedingly so.

¹² And they took Lot, Abram's brother's son, who dwelled in Sodom, and his goods, and departed.

⁸ But he forsook the counsel of the old men, which they had given him, and consulted with the young men that were grown up with him, and which stood before him:

¹⁰ And the young men that were grown up with him spoke to him, saying, "Thus shall you speak to this people that spoke to you, saying, "Your father made our yoke heavy, but make you it lighter to us; thus shall you say to them, My little finger shall be thicker than my father's loins.

⁴ And he said to Jehoshaphat, "Will you go with me to battle to Ramothgilead? And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, I am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses.

³² And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, that they said, "Surely it is the king of Israel. And they turned aside to fight against him: And Jehoshaphat cried out.

² And Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him, and said to king Jehoshaphat, Should you help the ungodly, and love those that hate the LORD? Therefore is wrath on you from before the LORD.

⁶³ I am a companion of all those that fear You, and of those that keep Your precepts.

¹¹ If they say, "Come with us, let us lay in wait for blood, let us lurk privately for the innocent without cause: ¹² Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit: ¹³ We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil: ¹⁴ Cast in your lot among us; let us all have one purse": ¹⁵ My son, do not walk in the way with them; refrain your foot from their path: ¹⁶ For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood. ¹⁷ Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird. ¹⁸ And they lay in wait for their own blood; they lurk privately for their own lives. ¹⁹ So are the ways of everyone that is greedy of gain; which takes away the life of its owners.

¹² To deliver you from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaks froward things; ¹³ who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness; ¹⁴ who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the frowardness of the wicked; ¹⁵ whose ways are crooked, and those froward in their paths: ¹⁶ To deliver you from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flatters with her words; ¹⁷ that forsakes the guide of her youth, and forgets the covenant of her God. ¹⁸ For her house inclines to death, and her paths to the dead. ¹⁹ None that go to her return again, neither do they take hold of the paths of life. ²⁰ That you may walk in the way of good men, and keep the paths of the righteous.

²² He immediately goes after her, as an ox goes to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of the stocks; ²³ till a dart strike through his liver; as a bird hastens to the snare, and does not know that it is for his life.

²⁷ Her house is the way to hell, going down to the chambers of death.

⁶ Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.

³¹ The ear that hears the reproof of life abides among the wise.

⁷ Tell me, O you whom my soul loves, where do you feed, where do you make your flock to rest at noon: For why should I be as one that turns aside by the flocks of your companions? ⁸ If you do not know, O you fairest among women, go forth your way by the footsteps of the flock, and feed your kids beside the shepherds' tents.

⁴² And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.

³³ Do not be deceived: "Evil communications corrupt good manners." ³⁴ Awake to righteousness, and do not sin; for some do not have the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame.

¹⁴ Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers: For what fellowship has righteousness with unrighteousness? And what communion has light with darkness? ¹⁵ And what agreement has Christ with Belial? Or what part has he that believes with an infidel? ¹⁶ And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God; as God has said: "I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people." ¹⁷ Therefore "Come out from among them, and be separate, says the Lord, and do not touch the unclean thing; and I will receive you", ¹⁸ "And will be a Father to you, and you shall be My sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty."

²⁴ and let us consider one another to provoke us to love and to good works:

⁴ And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, "Come out of her, my people, that you are not partakers of her sins, and that you do not receive of her plagues.

⁷ If you do well, shall you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And his desire shall be toward you, and you shall rule over him.

²³ But if you will not do so, behold, you have sinned against the LORD: And be sure your sin will find you out.

¹⁰ Many sorrows shall be to the wicked: But he that trusts in the LORD, mercy shall compass around him.

¹⁰ Say to the righteous, that it shall be well with him: For they shall eat the fruit of their doings. ¹¹ Woe to the wicked! It shall be ill with him: For the reward of his hands shall be given him.

⁴ Now when the barbarians saw the venomous beast hang on his hand, they said among themselves, "No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he has escaped the sea, yet vengeance does not permit him to live."

⁷ To those who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, eternal life: ⁸ But to those who are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath, ⁹ tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that does evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile; ¹⁰ but glory, honor, and peace to every man who works good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile:

⁷ And I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your seed after you in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God to you, and to your seed after you. ⁸ And I will give to you, and to your seed after you, the land in which you are a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God."

¹² Now therefore do not give your daughters to their sons, neither take their daughters to your sons, nor seek their peace or their wealth forever: That you may be strong, and eat the good of the land, and leave it for an inheritance to your children forever.

¹² What man is he that fears the LORD? He shall teach him in the way that He shall choose. ¹³ His soul shall dwell at ease; and his seed shall inherit the earth.

²⁵ I have been young, and now am old; yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.

²⁸ The children of Your servants shall continue, and their seed shall be established before You."

² His seed shall be mighty upon earth: The generation of the upright shall be blessed.

⁶ Yes, you shall see your children's children, and peace upon Israel.

²⁶ For God gives to a man who is good in his sight wisdom, and knowledge, and joy: But to the sinner he gives travail, to gather and to heap up, that he may give to him who is good before God. This also is vanity and vexation of spirit.

⁶ Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise: ⁷ Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler, ⁸ provides her meat in the summer, and gathers her food in the harvest. ⁹ How long will you sleep, O sluggard? When will you arise out of your sleep? ¹⁰ Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: ¹¹ So shall your poverty come as one that travels abroad, and your want as an armed man.

¹⁸ Whoever keeps the fig tree shall eat its fruit: So he that waits on his master shall be honored.

¹⁹ He that tills his land shall have plenty of bread: But he that follows after vain persons shall have poverty enough.

⁹ Moreover the profit of the earth is for all: The king himself is served by the field.

⁵ Whoever keeps the commandment shall feel no evil thing: And a wise man's heart discerns both time and judgment. ⁶ Because to every purpose there is time and judgment, therefore the misery of man is great on him. ⁷ Yes, the stork in heaven knows her appointed times; and the turtle and the crane and the swallow observe the time of their coming; but My people do not know the judgment of the LORD. ⁸ How do you say, 'We are wise, and the law of the LORD is with us?' See, certainly in vain he made it; the pen of the scribes is in vain. ⁹ The wise men are ashamed, they are dismayed and taken: Lo, they have rejected the word of the LORD; and what wisdom is in them? ¹⁰ Therefore I will give their wives to others, and their fields to those who shall inherit them: For everyone from the least even to the greatest is given to covetousness, from the prophet even to the priest everyone deals falsely.

¹² For whom the LORD loves He corrects; even as a father corrects the son in whom he delights.

³⁶ But he that sins against me wrongs his own soul: All those that hate me love death."

¹⁸ Chasten your son while there is hope, and do not let your soul spare because of his crying.

¹⁵ Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.

¹³ Do not withhold correction from the child: For if you beat him with the rod, he shall not die. ¹⁴ You shall beat him with the rod, and shall deliver his soul from hell.

¹⁵ The rod and reproof give wisdom: But a child left to himself brings his mother to shame.

¹⁷ Correct your son, and he shall give you rest; yes, he shall give delight to your soul.

²⁶ "If anyone comes to Me, and does not hate his father, mother, wife, children, brethren, and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple.

⁶ For whom the Lord loves He chastens, and scourges every son whom He receives." ⁷ If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father does not chasten? ⁸ But if you are without chastisement, of which all are partakers, then you are bastards, and not sons.

⁴⁸ therefore you shall serve your enemies which the LORD shall send against you, in hunger, and in thirst, and in nakedness, and in want of all things: And he shall put a yoke of iron on your neck, until he have destroyed you.

²⁴ They shall be burnt with hunger, and devoured with burning heat, and with bitter destruction: I will also send the teeth of beasts on them, with the poison of dragons, of the dust.

¹⁰ The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: But those that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing.

³ Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shall you dwell in the land, and truly you shall be fed.

¹⁶ A little that a righteous man has is better than the riches of many wicked.

¹⁸ The LORD knows the days of the upright: And their inheritance shall be forever. ¹⁹ They shall not be ashamed in the evil time: And in the days of famine they shall be satisfied.

³ The LORD will not allow the soul of the righteous to famish: But He casts away the substance of the wicked.

¹³ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD, "Behold, My servants shall eat, but you shall be hungry: Behold, My servants shall drink, but you shall be thirsty: Behold, My servants shall rejoice, but you shall be ashamed: ¹⁴ Behold, My servants shall sing for joy of heart, but you shall cry for sorrow of heart, and shall howl for vexation of spirit.

¹⁰ For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: That if anyone would not work, neither should he eat.

⁸ For bodily exercise profits little: But godliness is profitable to all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.

⁵ Let your behavior be without covetousness; and be content with such things as you have: For He has said, "I will never leave you, nor forsake you."
