⁹ Do not be as the horse, nor as the mule, which have no understanding: Whose mouths must be held in with bit and bridle, lest they come near to you."

⁶ A brutish man does not know; neither does a fool understand this.

²⁷ Make me to understand the way of Your precepts: So shall I talk of Your wondrous works.

⁹⁷ MEM: O how I love Your law! It is my meditation all the day long. ⁹⁸ Through Your commandments You have made me wiser than my enemies: For they are ever with me. ⁹⁹ I have more understanding than all my teachers: For Your testimonies are my meditation. ¹⁰⁰ I understand more than the ancients, because I keep Your precepts.

¹⁰ When wisdom enters into your heart, and knowledge is pleasant to your soul; ¹¹ discretion shall preserve you, understanding shall keep you:

¹² and say, "How I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof; ¹³ and have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined my ear to those that instructed me!

¹⁷ I love those who love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.

³² Now therefore hearken to me, O you children: For blessed are those that keep my ways.

⁷ He that reproves a scorner gets shame to himself: And he that rebukes a wicked man gets himself a blemish. ⁸ Do not reprove a scorner, lest he hate you: Rebuke a wise man, and he will love you.

¹⁰ Correction is grievous to him that forsakes the way: And he that hates reproof shall die.

¹ Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeks and intermeddles with all wisdom.

³ The ox knows his owner, and the donkey his master's crib: But Israel does not know, my people do not consider.

¹⁰ and with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in those that perish; because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

¹⁵ The heathen are sunk down in the pit that they made: Their own foot is caught in the net which they hid.

⁵ A good man shows favor, and lends: He will guide his affairs with discretion.

³¹ Therefore they shall eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.

¹⁸ a heart that devises wicked imaginations, feet that are swift in running to mischief,

³⁵ For whoever finds me finds life, and shall obtain favor of the LORD.

⁸ There is no man who has power over the spirit to retain the spirit; neither does he have power in the day of death: And there is no discharge from that war; neither shall wickedness deliver those who are given to it.

⁵ The vile person shall no longer be called liberal, nor the rude said to be bountiful. ⁶ For the vile person will speak villainy, and his heart will work iniquity, to practice hypocrisy, and to utter error against the LORD, to make the soul of the hungry empty, and he will cause the drink of the thirsty to fail. ⁷ Also the instruments of the rude are evil: He devises wicked devices to destroy the poor with lying words, even when the needy speaks truth.

²⁴ For he was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and of faith: And many people were added to the Lord.

⁷ Indeed, scarcely for a righteous man will one die: Yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die.

³³ And blessed be your advice, and blessed be you, which have kept me from coming to shed blood this day, and from avenging myself with my own hand.

³ I have seen the foolish taking root: But suddenly I cursed his habitation. ⁴ His children are far from safety, and they are crushed in the gate, neither is there any to deliver them. ⁵ Whose harvest the hungry eats up, and takes it even out of the thorns, and the robber swallows up their substance.

²⁹ He shall not be rich, neither shall his substance continue, neither shall he prolong its perfection on the earth.

⁵ that the triumphing of the wicked is short, and the joy of the hypocrite but for a moment? ⁶ Though his excellency mount up to heaven, and his head reach to the clouds; ⁷ yet he shall perish forever like his own dung: They which have seen him shall say, "Where is he? ⁸ He shall fly away as a dream, and shall not be found: Yes, he shall be chased away as a vision of the night. ⁹ The eye also which saw him shall see him no more; neither shall his place any more behold him.

¹⁶ Though he heap up silver as the dust, and prepare clothing as the clay; ¹⁷ he may prepare it, but the just shall put it on, and the innocent shall divide the silver. ¹⁸ He builds his house as a moth, and as a booth that the keeper makes.

⁵ He that does not put out his money to receive usury, nor takes reward against the innocent. He that does these things shall never be moved.

¹ A Song of degrees. Those who trust in the LORD shall be as Mount Zion which cannot be removed, but abides forever. ² As the mountains are all around Jerusalem, so the LORD is all around His people from this time forward, even forever.

²⁵ As the whirlwind passes, so is the wicked no more: But the righteous is an everlasting foundation.

¹² The wicked desires the net of evil men: But the root of the righteous yields fruit.

¹⁷ that Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love,

⁷ Rooted and built up in Him, and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.

¹ Every wise woman builds her house: But the foolish plucks it down with her hands.

³⁰ A sound heart is the life of the flesh: But envy the rottenness of the bones.

¹³ A foolish son is the calamity of his father: And the contentions of a wife are a continual dropping. ¹⁴ House and riches are the inheritance of fathers: And a prudent wife is from the LORD.

⁹ It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman in a wide house.

¹⁹ It is better to dwell in the wilderness, than with a contentious and an angry woman.

¹⁵ A continual dropping on a very rainy day and a contentious woman are alike. ¹⁶ Whoever hides her hides the wind, and hides the ointment of his right hand, which discloses itself.

¹⁰ Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies. ¹¹ The heart of her husband safely trusts in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. ¹² She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life. ¹³ She seeks wool, and flax, and works willingly with her hands. ¹⁴ She is like the merchants' ships; she brings her food from afar. ¹⁵ She also rises while it is yet night, and gives meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens. ¹⁶ She considers a field, and buys it: With the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard. ¹⁷ She girds her loins with strength, and strengthens her arms. ¹⁸ She perceives that her merchandise is good: Her candle does not go out by night. ¹⁹ She lays her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the staff of the spinning wheel. ²⁰ She stretches out her hand to the poor; yes, she reaches forth her hands to the needy. ²¹ She is not afraid of the snow for her household: For all her household are clothed with scarlet. ²² She makes herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple. ²³ Her husband is known in the gates, when he sits among the elders of the land. ²⁴ She makes fine linen, and sells it; and delivers girdles to the merchant. ²⁵ Strength and honor are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.

¹⁶ When I heard, my belly trembled; my lips quivered at the voice: Rottenness entered into my bones, and I trembled in myself, that I might rest in the day of trouble: When he comes up to the people, he will invade them with his troops.

⁷ For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, for as much as he is the image and glory of God: But the woman is the glory of the man.

¹¹ Nevertheless, neither is the man without the woman, nor the woman without the man, in the Lord.

² They speak vanity, everyone with his neighbor: With flattering lips and with a double heart they speak. ³ The LORD shall cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that speaks proud things:

² For he flatters himself in his own eyes, until his iniquity is found to be hateful. ³ The words of his mouth are iniquity and deceit: He has forsaken to be wise, and to do good. ⁴ He devises mischief upon his bed; he sets himself in a way that is not good; he does not abhor evil.

⁶ And if he comes to see me, he speaks vanity: His heart gathers iniquity to itself; when he goes abroad, he tells it. ⁷ All that hate me whisper together against me: Against me do they devise my hurt.

¹⁵ I will meditate in Your precepts, and have respect to Your ways.

²³ Search me, O God, and know my heart: Try me, and know my thoughts:

¹ To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. Deliver me, O LORD, from the evil man: Preserve me from the violent man; ² those which imagine mischief in their heart; they are continually gathered together for war. ³ They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent; the adder's poison is under their lips. Selah.

²³ The desire of the righteous is only good: But the expectation of the wicked is wrath.

⁹ The thought of foolishness is sin: And the scorner is an abomination to men.

⁷ Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: And let him return to the LORD, and He will have mercy on him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.

¹⁴ O Jerusalem, wash your heart from wickedness, that you may be saved. How long shall your vain thoughts lodge within you?

³ When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. ⁴ And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born. ⁵ And they said to him, "In Bethlehem of Judea: For thus it is written by the prophet, ⁶ 'And you Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are not the least among the princes of Judah: For out of you shall come a Governor, that shall rule My people Israel.' " ⁷ Then Herod, when he had privately called the wise men, inquired of them diligently what time the star appeared. ⁸ And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, "Go and search diligently for the young Child; and when you have found Him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship Him also."

¹⁶ Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked by the wise men, was exceedingly wroth, and sent forth, and killed all the children that were in Bethlehem, and inside all its borders, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently inquired of the wise men.

⁴ and consulted that they might take Jesus through cunning, and kill Him.

⁵ Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: And then every man shall have praise from God.

² but have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the Word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.

¹ Moreover Ahithophel said to Absalom, "Let me now choose out twelve thousand men, and I will arise and pursue after David this night: ² And I will come on him while he is weary and weak handed, and will make him afraid: And all the people that are with him shall flee; and I will smite the king only: ³ And I will bring back all the people to you: The man whom you seek is as if all returned: So all the people shall be in peace. ⁴ And the saying pleased Absalom well, and all the elders of Israel.

⁷ And Mordecai told him of all that had happened to him, and of the sum of the money that Haman had promised to pay to the king's treasuries for the Jews, to destroy them. ⁸ Also he gave him the copy of the writing of the decree that was given at Shushan to destroy them, to show it to Esther, and to declare it to her, and to charge her that she should go in to the king, to make supplication to him, and to make request before him for her people. ⁹ And Hatach came and told Esther the words of Mordecai. ¹⁰ Again Esther spoke to Hatach, and gave him commandment to Mordecai; ¹¹ "All the king's servants, and the people of the king's provinces, do know, that whoever, whether man or women, shall come to the king into the inner court, who is not called, there is one law of his to put him to death, except such to whom the king shall hold out the golden scepter, that he may live: But I have not been called to come in to the king these thirty days." ¹² And they told Esther's words to Mordecai. ¹³ Then Mordecai commanded to answer Esther, "Do not think that you yourself shall escape in the king's house, more than all the Jews. ¹⁴ For if you altogether hold your peace at this time, then enlargement and deliverance shall arise to the Jews from another place; but you and your father's house shall be destroyed: And who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?"

⁴ For we are sold, I and my people, to be destroyed, to be slain, and to perish. But if we had been sold for servants and bondwomen, I had held my tongue, although the enemy could not countervail the king's damage." ⁵ Then the king Ahasuerus answered and said to Esther the queen, "Who is he, and where is he, that dared presume in his heart to do so? ⁶ And Esther said, "The adversary and enemy is this wicked Haman." Then Haman was afraid before the king and the queen.

¹¹ If they say, "Come with us, let us lay in wait for blood, let us lurk privately for the innocent without cause: ¹² Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit: ¹³ We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil: ¹⁴ Cast in your lot among us; let us all have one purse": ¹⁵ My son, do not walk in the way with them; refrain your foot from their path: ¹⁶ For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood. ¹⁷ Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird. ¹⁸ And they lay in wait for their own blood; they lurk privately for their own lives. ¹⁹ So are the ways of everyone that is greedy of gain; which takes away the life of its owners.

³ In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride: But the lips of the wise shall preserve them.

⁷ Their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed innocent blood: Their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity; wasting and destruction are in their paths.

²⁶ 'For among My people are found wicked men: They lay wait, as he who sets snares; they set a trap, they catch men.

¹ Woe is me! For I am as when they have gathered the summer fruits, as the grape-gleanings of the vintage: There is no cluster to eat: My soul desired the first ripe fruit. ² The good man has perished out of the earth: And there is none upright among men: They all lie in wait for blood; they hunt every man, his brother, with a net.good; or, godly, or, merciful

¹² And when it was day, certain ones of the Jews banded together, and bound themselves under a curse, saying that they would neither eat nor drink until they had killed Paul.

¹⁵ Now you, therefore, together with the council, signify to the chief captain that he bring him down to you tomorrow, as though you would inquire something more perfectly concerning him: And we are ready to kill him whenever he comes near."

³ and desired a favor against him, that he would send him to Jerusalem, while they are laying in wait by the road to kill him.

¹⁶ And your house and your kingdom shall be established forever before you: Your throne shall be established forever.

²⁶ And let your name be magnified forever, saying, "The LORD of hosts is the God over Israel: And let the house of your servant David be established before you.

⁶ And in Shushan the palace the Jews slew and destroyed five hundred men. ⁷ And Parshandatha, and Dalphon, and Aspatha, ⁸ and Poratha, and Adalia, and Aridatha, ⁹ and Parmashta, and Arisai, and Aridai, and Vajezatha, ¹⁰ they slew the ten sons of Haman the son of Hammedatha, the enemy of the Jews; but on the spoil they did not lay their hands.

¹⁴ And the king commanded it to be so done: And the decree was given at Shushan; and they hanged Haman's ten sons.

²⁰ But the eyes of the wicked shall fail, and they shall not escape, and their hope shall be as the giving up of the ghost.

¹⁵ It shall dwell in his tabernacle, because it is none of his: Brimstone shall be scattered on his habitation. ¹⁶ His roots shall be dried up beneath, and above shall his branch be cut off. ¹⁷ His remembrance shall perish from the earth, and he shall have no name in the street. ¹⁸ He shall be driven from light into darkness, and chased out of the world. ¹⁹ He shall neither have son nor nephew among his people, nor any remaining in his dwellings. ²⁰ Those that come after him shall be astonished at his day, as those that went before were affrighted.

¹⁸ He builds his house as a moth, and as a booth that the keeper makes. ¹⁹ The rich man shall lie down, but he shall not be gathered: He opens his eyes, and he is not. ²⁰ Terrors take hold on him as waters, a tempest steals him away in the night. ²¹ The east wind carries him away, and he departs: And as a storm hurles him out of his place. ²² For God shall cast on him, and not spare: He would fain flee out of his hand. ²³ Men shall clap their hands at him, and shall hiss him out of his place.

²⁵ Therefore he knows their works, and he overturns them in the night, so that they are destroyed.

¹⁰ For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: Yes, you shall diligently consider his place, and it shall not be.

³⁵ I have seen the wicked in great power, and spreading himself like a green bay tree. ³⁶ Yet he passed away, and see, he was not there: Yes, I sought him, but he could not be found. ³⁷ Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: For the end of that man is peace.

¹⁸ Surely you have set them in slippery places: You cast them down into destruction. ¹⁹ How are they brought into desolation, as in a moment! They are utterly consumed with terrors.

²¹ Though hand join in hand, the wicked shall not be unpunished: But the seed of the righteous shall be delivered.

¹¹ The house of the wicked shall be overthrown: But the tabernacle of the upright shall flourish.

²⁵ The LORD will destroy the house of the proud: But He will establish the border of the widow.

³ Through wisdom a house is built; and by understanding it is established: ⁴ And by knowledge the chambers shall be filled with all precious and pleasant riches.

²⁴ Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man, who built his house upon a rock: ²⁵ And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it did not fall: For it was founded upon a rock. ²⁶ And everyone that hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, shall be likened to a foolish man, who built his house upon the sand: ²⁷ And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: And great was the fall of it."

³⁹ And Pharaoh said to Joseph, "For as much as God has shown you all this, there is none so discreet and wise as you are:

¹³ And Samuel said to Saul, "You have done foolishly: You have not kept the commandment of the LORD your God, which He commanded you: For the LORD would have now established your kingdom upon Israel forever.

¹⁸ Then one of the servants answered, and said, "Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, that is cunning in playing, and a mighty valiant man, and a man of war, and prudent in matters, and a handsome person, and the LORD is with him."

³⁰ Then the princes of the Philistines went forth: And it came to pass, after they went forth, that David behaved himself more wisely than all the servants of Saul; so that his name was made precious.

¹⁷ Now therefore know and consider what you will do; for evil is determined against our master, and against all his household: For he is such a son of Belial, that a man cannot speak to him."

¹⁸ I will clothe his enemies with shame: But his crown shall flourish upon himself."

²⁶ I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear comes;

³⁵ The wise shall inherit glory: But shame shall be the promotion of fools.

²³ He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.

¹ Who is like the wise man? And who knows the interpretation of a thing? A man's wisdom makes his face shine, and the boldness of his face shall be changed.

² And many of those that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.

⁸ But you all have departed out of the way; you all have caused many to stumble at the law; you all have corrupted the covenant of Levi", says the LORD of hosts. ⁹ "Therefore I have also made you contemptible and lowly before all the people, according to as you all have not kept My ways, but have been partial in the law."

⁴ saying, "I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood." And they said, "What is that to us? You see to that." ⁵ Then he threw down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hung himself.

⁴² And the Lord said, "Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of food in due season? ⁴³ Blessed is that servant, whom his lord shall find so doing when he comes. ⁴⁴ Truly, I say to you, That he will make him ruler over all that he has.

⁸ Yet the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely: For the children of this world in their generation are wiser than the children of light.

²³ And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he did not give glory to God: And he was eaten by worms, and gave up the ghost.

¹⁰ According to the grace of God which is given to me, as a wise master-builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let every man take heed how he builds upon it. ¹¹ For no other foundation can any man lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. ¹² Now if any man builds upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; ¹³ every man's work shall be made manifest: For the Day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall prove every man's work, of what sort it is. ¹⁴ If any man's work which he has built upon continues, he shall receive a reward. ¹⁵ If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: But he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.

¹⁸ For he that commends himself is not approved, but whom the Lord commends.

⁷ There is that which makes himself rich, yet has nothing: There is that which makes himself poor, yet has great riches.

¹¹ For whoever exalts himself shall be abased; and he that humbles himself shall be exalted."

¹³ And he said to him, "My lord knows that the children are tender, and the flocks and herds with young are with me: And if men should overdrive them one day, all the flock will die. ¹⁴ Let my lord, I implore you, pass over before his servant: And I will lead on softly, according to as the domestic beasts that go before me and the children are able to endure, until I come to my lord at Seir."

²⁶ And Judah said to his brothers, "What profit is it if we slay our brother, and conceal his blood? ²⁷ Come, and let us sell him to the Ishmeelites, and do not let our hand be upon him; for he is our brother and our flesh." And his brothers were content. ²⁸ Then Midianite merchants passed by there; and they drew and lifted up Joseph out of the pit, and sold Joseph to the Ishmeelites for twenty pieces of silver: And they brought Joseph into Egypt.

²⁸ And the LORD opened the mouth of the donkey, and she said to Balaam, "What have I done to you, that you have smitten me these three times? ²⁹ And Balaam said to the donkey, Because you have mocked me: I would there were a sword in my hand, for now would I kill you. ³⁰ And the donkey said to Balaam, "Am not I your donkey, on which you have ridden ever since I was your to this day? Was I ever wont to do so to you? And he said, "No. ³¹ Then the LORD opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: And he bowed down his head, and fell flat on his face. ³² And the angel of the LORD said to him, "Why have you smitten your donkey these three times? Behold, I went out to withstand you, because your way is perverse before me:

⁴ You shall not muzzle the ox when he treads out the grain.

⁷ And Adonibezek said, "Three score and ten kings, having their thumbs and their great toes cut off, gathered their meat under my table: As I have done, so God has requited me. And they brought him to Jerusalem, and there he died.

² And Nahash the Ammonite answered them, "On this condition I will make a covenant with you, that I may thrust out all your right eyes, and make it as a reproach upon all Israel."

¹¹ The woman said to Him, "Sir, You have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: From what source then do you have that living water?

³¹ The Jews therefore, because it was the Preparation, that the bodies should not remain on the cross on the Sabbath day, (for that Sabbath was a high day), implored Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away. ³² Then the soldiers came, and broke the legs of the first, and of the other which were crucified with Him.

¹³ For he that has shown no mercy shall have judgment without mercy; and mercy rejoices against judgment. ¹⁴ What does it profit, my brethren, though a man says he has faith, and does not have works? Can faith save him? ¹⁵ If a brother or sister is naked, and destitute of daily food, ¹⁶ and one of you says to them, "Depart in peace, be warmed and filled"; but you do not give them those things which are needful to the body; what does it profit?

¹⁷ But whoever has this world's good life, and sees his brother have need, and shuts up his inner heart of compassion from him, how does the love of God dwell in him?

¹⁹ in the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, until you return to the ground; for out of it you were taken: For dust you are, and to dust you shall return."

⁴ And they gave him three score and ten pieces of silver out of the house of Baalberith, with which Abimelech hired vain and light persons, which followed him.

⁴ I have not sat with vain persons, neither will I go in with dissemblers.

² For you shall eat the labor of your hands: Happy shall you be, and it shall be well with you.

¹⁰ My son, if sinners entice you, do not consent.

¹⁴ Do not enter into the path of the wicked, and do not go in the way of evil men. ¹⁵ Avoid it, do not pass by it, turn from it, and pass away.

³² But whoever commits adultery with a woman lacks understanding: He that does it destroys his own soul.

⁷ and beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man void of understanding,

⁶ Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.

¹³ A foolish woman is clamorous: She is simple, and knows nothing.

¹⁶ "Whoever is simple, let him turn in here": And as for him that wants understanding, she says to him,

²⁰ He that walks with wise men shall be wise: But a companion of fools shall be destroyed.

²³ Much food is in the tilled land of the poor: But there is that which is destroyed for absence of judgment.

⁴ Where no oxen are, the crib is clean: But much increase is by the strength of the ox.

²³ In all labor there is profit: But the talk of the lips tends only to penury.

²⁷ And you shall have enough goats' milk for your food, for the food of your household, and for the sustenance of your maidens.

¹⁹ He that tills his land shall have plenty of bread: But he that follows after vain persons shall have poverty enough.

⁸ Those that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy.

²⁸ Let him that stole steal no more: But rather let him labor, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needs.

¹¹ and that you study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you; ¹² that you may walk honestly toward those who are outside, and that you may lack nothing.

⁸ neither did we eat any man's bread for nothing: But worked with labor and travail night and day, that we might not be chargeable with a fault to any of you:

¹⁰ For there are many unruly and vain talkers, and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision: ¹¹ Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not to, for the sake of filthy profit.

³ And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season; its leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.

⁹ He lies in wait secretly as a lion in his den: He lies in wait to catch the poor: He does catch the poor, when he draws him into his net.

¹⁵ The rich man's wealth is his strong city: The destruction of the poor is their poverty.

⁵ A man that flatters his neighbor spreads a net for his feet. ⁶ In the transgression of an evil man there is a snare: But the righteous does sing and rejoice.

⁶ He shall cause those that come of Jacob to take root: Israel shall blossom and bud, and fill the face of the world with fruit.

³¹ And the remnant of the house of Judah who have escaped shall again take root downward, and bear fruit upward:

²⁶ 'For among My people are found wicked men: They lay wait, as he who sets snares; they set a trap, they catch men. ²⁷ As a cage is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit: Therefore they have become great, and waxen rich. ²⁸ They are waxen fat, they shine: Yes, they overpass the deeds of the wicked: They do not judge the cause, the cause of the fatherless, yet they prosper; and the right of the needy they do not judge.

⁷ Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, and whose hope is the LORD. ⁸ For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, and which spreads out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat comes, but her leaves shall be green; and shall not be anxious in the year of drought, nor shall cease from yielding fruit.

² The good man has perished out of the earth: And there is none upright among men: They all lie in wait for blood; they hunt every man, his brother, with a net.good; or, godly, or, merciful

¹⁵ They take all of them up with the hook, they catch them in their net, and gather them in their dragnet: Therefore they rejoice and are glad. ¹⁶ Therefore they sacrifice to their net, and burn incense to their dragnet; because by them their portion is fat, and their meat plenteous. ¹⁷ Shall they therefore empty their net, and not spare to continually slay the nations?

¹³ Those upon the rock are they which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, who for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away. ¹⁴ And that which fell among thorns are they which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection. ¹⁵ But that on the good ground are those, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.

⁵ I am the vine, you are the branches: He that abides in Me, and I in him, the same brings forth much fruit: For without Me you can do nothing.

¹⁶ You have not chosen Me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that you should go and bear forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: That whatever you shall ask of the Father in My name, He may give it to you.

²² But now being made free from sin, and having become servants to God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end everlasting life.

¹⁶ the Angel which redeemed me from all evil, bless the lads; and let my name be named on them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; and let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth."

⁹ And David answered Rechab and Baanah his brother, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, and said to them, "As the LORD lives, who has redeemed my soul out of all adversity,

²³ Then king Solomon swore by the LORD, saying, "God do so to me, and more also, if Adonijah have not spoken this word against his own life.

⁶ You shall destroy those that speak lies: The LORD will abhor the bloody and deceitful man.

¹⁹ Many are the afflictions of the righteous: But the LORD delivers him out of them all.

⁸ So they shall make their own tongue to fall upon themselves: All that see them shall flee away.

² you are snared with the words of your mouth, you are taken with the words of your mouth.

⁸ The righteous is delivered out of trouble, and the wicked comes in his stead.

² The tongue of the wise uses knowledge aright: But the mouth of fools pours out foolishness.

⁶ A fool's lips enter into contention, and his mouth calls for strokes. ⁷ A fool's mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.

²³ Whoever keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps his soul from troubles.

¹⁸ It is good that you should take hold of this; yes, also do not withdraw your hand from this: For he who fears God shall come escape from them all.

²⁴ And the king commanded, and they brought those men who had accused Daniel, and they cast them into the den of lions, them, their children, and their wives; and the lions had mastery of them, and broke all their bones in pieces even before they came to the bottom of the den.

²⁵ Then all the people answered, and said, "His blood be on us, and on our children."

³⁵ Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? ³⁶ As it is written, "For Your sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter." ³⁷ Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us.

⁹ the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust for the day of judgment to be punished:

⁵ My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise You with joyful lips:

² A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: But the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence.

²³ A man has joy by the answer of his mouth: And a word spoken in due season, how good it is!

²⁰ A man's belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled. ²¹ Death and life are in the power of the tongue: And those that love it shall eat its fruit.

¹⁰ Say to the righteous, that it shall be well with him: For they shall eat the fruit of their doings. ¹¹ Woe to the wicked! It shall be ill with him: For the reward of his hands shall be given him.

⁴¹ He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward; and he who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward. ⁴² And whoever shall give one of these little ones only a cup of cold water to drink in the name of a disciple, truly I say to you, He shall in no case lose his reward."

²⁷ For the Son of Man shall come in the glory of His Father with His angels; and then He shall reward every man according to his works.

⁶ Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to those that trouble you; ⁷ and to you who are troubled, rest with us; when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels,

² For if the word spoken by angels was steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompense of reward;

²⁶ esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: For he had respect for the recompense of the reward.

⁵ A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain to wise counsels:

⁷ Do not be wise in your own eyes: Fear the LORD, and depart from evil.

⁹ Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: Teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.

¹² There is a way which seems right to a man, but its end are the ways of death.

¹⁶ A wise man fears, and departs from evil: But the fool rages, and is confident.

² All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the LORD weighs the spirits.

²⁵ There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end are the ways of death.

²⁰ Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that you may be wise in your latter end.

² Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: But the LORD ponders the hearts.

¹² See a man wise in his own conceit? There is more hope for a fool than for him.

¹⁶ The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit than seven men that can render a reason.

¹¹ The rich man is wise in his own conceit; but the poor that has understanding searches him out.

¹² There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet are not washed from their filthiness.

¹³ Better is a poor and a wise child than an old and foolish king, who will be admonished no more.

¹⁵ Then Jeremiah said to Zedekiah, "If I declare it to you, will you not surely put me to death? And if I give you counsel, will you not listen to me?" ¹⁶ So Zedekiah the king swore secretly to Jeremiah, saying, "As the LORD lives, who made us this soul, I will not put you to death, neither will I give you into the hand of these men who seek your life." ¹⁷ Then Jeremiah said to Zedekiah, "Thus says the LORD, the God of hosts, the God of Israel; 'If you will assuredly go forth to the king of Babylon's princes, then your soul shall live, and this city shall not be burned with fire; and you shall live, and your house: ¹⁸ But if you will not go forth to the king of Babylon's princes, then this city shall be given into the hand of the Chaldeans, and they shall burn it with fire, and you shall not escape out of their hand.' " ¹⁹ And Zedekiah the king said to Jeremiah, "I am afraid of the Jews who are fallen to the Chaldeans, lest they deliver me into their hand, and they mock me." ²⁰ But Jeremiah said, "They shall not deliver you. Obey, I beseech you, the voice of the LORD, which I speak to you: So it shall be well with you, and your soul shall live. ²¹ But if you refuse to go forth, this is the word that the LORD has shown me: ²² 'And behold, all the women that are left in the king of Judah's house shall be brought forth to the king of Babylon's princes, and those women shall say, "Your friends have set you on, and have prevailed against you: Your feet are sunk in the mire, and they are turned back away." ²³ So they shall bring out all your wives and your children to the Chaldeans: And you shall not escape out of their hand, but shall be taken by the hand of the king of Babylon: And you shall cause this city to be burned with fire.' " ²⁴ Then Zedekiah said to Jeremiah, "Let no man know of these words, and you shall not die. ²⁵ But if the princes hear that I have talked with you, and they come to you, and say to you, 'Declare to us now what you have said to the king, do not hide it from us, and we will not put you to death; also what the king said to you': ²⁶ Then you shall say to them, 'I presented my supplication before the king, that he would not cause me to return to Jonathan's house, to die there.' " ²⁷ Then all the princes came to Jeremiah, and asked him: And he told them according to all these words that the king had commanded. So they left off speaking with him; for the matter was not perceived. ²⁸ So Jeremiah stayed in the court of the prison until the day that Jerusalem was taken: And he was there when Jerusalem was taken.

¹¹ The Pharisee stood and prayed in this manner with himself, 'God, I thank You that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.

³ For if a man thinks himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself.

³⁰ Then Saul's anger was kindled against Jonathan, and he said to him, "You son of the perverse rebellious woman, do not I know that you have chosen the son of Jesse to your own confusion, and to the confusion of your mother's nakedness? ³¹ For as long as the son of Jesse lives upon the earth, you shall not be established, nor your kingdom. For this reason send now and fetch him to me, for he shall surely die." ³² And Jonathan answered his father Saul, and said to him, "Why shall he be slain? What has he done?" ³³ And Saul cast a javelin at him to smite him: By this Jonathan knew that it was determined by his father to slay David. ³⁴ So Jonathan arose from the table in fierce anger, and ate no meat the second day of the month: For he was grieved for David, because his father had done him shame.

¹ And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and with how he had slain all the prophets with the sword. ² Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, "So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I make not your life as the life of one of them by tomorrow about this time.

¹² Hatred stirs up strifes: But love covers all sins.

³³ Wisdom rests in the heart of him that has understanding: But that which is in the midst of fools is made known.

²² Understanding is a wellspring of life to him that has it: But the instruction of fools is folly.

⁹ He that covers a transgression seeks love; but he that repeats a matter separates true friends.

²⁸ He that has no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.

¹¹ A fool utters all his mind: But a wise man keeps it in till afterwards.

¹⁹ Therefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:

¹⁴ Then Ahimelech answered the king, and said, "And who is so faithful among all your servants as David, which is the king's son-in-law, and goes at your bidding, and is honorable in your house? ¹⁵ Did I then begin to inquire of God for him? Be it far from me: Let not the king impute anything to his servant, nor to all the house of my father: For your servant knew nothing of all this, less or more."

¹⁹ a false witness that speaks lies, and he that sows discord among brethren.

⁵ A faithful witness will not lie: But a false witness will utter lies.

²⁵ A true witness delivers souls: But a deceitful witness speaks lies.

⁵ A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaks lies shall not escape.

²⁸ An ungodly witness scorns judgment: And the mouth of the wicked devours iniquity.

²⁸ A false witness shall perish: But the man that hears speaks constantly.

²⁸ Do not be a witness against your neighbor without cause; and do not deceive with your lips.

¹⁹ For out of the heart proceeds evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:

⁵⁹ Now the chief priests, elders, and all the council sought false witness against Jesus, to put Him to death;

¹³ and set up false witnesses, which said, "This man does not cease to speak blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law:

¹⁶ Having a good conscience; that when they speak evil of you, as of evil-doers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.

² The tongue devises mischiefs; like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.

⁴ My soul is among lions: And I lie even among those that are set on fire, even the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword.

⁷ Behold, they belch out with their mouth: Swords are in their lips: They say, "Who can hear?"

³ Who whet their tongue like a sword, and bend their bows to shoot their arrows, even bitter words:

²² For they are life to those that find them, and health to all their flesh.

²⁰ The tongue of the just is as choice silver: The heart of the wicked is worth little. ²¹ The lips of the righteous feed many: But fools die for lack of wisdom.

¹⁷ A wicked messenger falls into mischief: But a faithful ambassador is health.

⁴ A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: But perverseness in it is a breach in the spirit.

⁷ The lips of the wise disperse knowledge: But the heart of the foolish does not do so.

²⁴ Pleasant words are as a honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.

¹⁸ A man that bears false witness against his neighbor is a maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow.

³³ And those who understand among the people shall instruct many: Yet they shall fall by the sword, and by flame, by captivity, and by spoil, many days.

⁶ And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: Thus is the tongue among our members, that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell. ⁷ For every kind of beast, and birds, serpents, and things in the sea are tamed, and have been tamed by mankind: ⁸ But no man can tame the tongue; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.

¹⁶ And He had in His right hand seven stars: And out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged sword: And His countenance was as the sun shining in His strength.

² In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, there was the tree of life, which bore twelve kinds of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: And the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.

⁵ that the triumphing of the wicked is short, and the joy of the hypocrite but for a moment?

⁴ You love all devouring words, O you deceitful tongue. ⁵ God shall likewise destroy you forever, he shall take you away, and pluck you out of your dwelling place, and root you out of the land of the living. Selah.

⁹ A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaks lies shall perish.

⁴ "Do not be as your fathers, to whom the former prophets have cried out, saying, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts; "Turn now from your evil ways, and from your evil doings, all of you" ': But they did not hear, nor hearken to Me", says the LORD. ⁵ "Your fathers, where are they? And the prophets, do they live forever? ⁶ But My words and My statutes, which I commanded My servants the prophets, did they not take hold of your fathers? And they returned and said, 'As the LORD of hosts thought to do to us, according to our ways, and according to our doings, in this manner He has dealt with us.' "

³⁵ Heaven and earth shall pass away: But My words shall not pass away.

³ But Peter said, "Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit, and to keep back part of the price of the land? ⁴ While it remained, was it not your own? And after it was sold, was it not in your own power? Why have you conceived this thing in your heart? You have not lied to men, but to God." ⁵ Now Ananias, hearing these words, fell down, and gave up the ghost: Therefore great fear came on all those that heard these things. ⁶ And the young men arose, wound him up, carried him out, and buried him. ⁷ Moreover it was about three hours later, when his wife came in, not knowing what was done. ⁸ And Peter answered to her, "Tell me whether you sold the land for so much?" And she said, "Yes, for so much." ⁹ Then Peter said to her, "How is it that you have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? Behold, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they shall carry you out." ¹⁰ Then she fell down immediately at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: And the young men came in, and found her dead, and carrying her forth, buried her by her husband.

²⁴ He that hates conceals with his lips, and lays up deceit within himself; ²⁵ when he speaks in a pleasing manner, do not believe him: For there are seven abominations in his heart. ²⁶ Whose hatred is covered by deceit, his wickedness shall be shown before the whole congregation.

⁶ For to us a Child is born, to us a Son is given: And the government shall be upon His shoulder: And His name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. ⁷ Of the increase of His government and peace there shall be no end, on the throne of David, and on His kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from now on even forever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.

¹⁶ As for me, I have not hastened from being a pastor to follow You: Neither have I desired the woeful day; You know: That which came out of my lips was right before You.

¹³ He shall even build the temple of the LORD; and He shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule upon His throne; and He shall be a priest upon His throne: And the counsel of peace shall be between them both." '

⁹ Blessed are the peacemakers: For they shall be called the children of God.

²¹ For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, ²² thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness:

¹⁴ Moreover when they had come, they said to Him, "Master, we know that You are true, and revere no man; for You do not regard the person of men, but teach the way of God in truth: Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not? ¹⁵ Should we give, or should we not give?" But He, knowing their hypocrisy, said to them, "Why do you tempt Me? Bring Me a silver coin, that I may see it." ¹⁶ And they brought it. And He said to them, "Whose image and inscription is this?" They said to Him, "Caesar's." ¹⁷ And Jesus answering said to them, "Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's." And they marveled at Him.

²⁹ being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; being whisperers,

¹⁴ Follow peace with all people, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:

⁸ Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion toward one another, love as brethren, be tender-hearted, be courteous: ⁹ Not rendering evil for evil, or returning reproach for reproach: But on the contrary blessing; knowing that you are called to this, that you should inherit a blessing. ¹⁰ Therefore, "He that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile: ¹¹ Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and pursue it. ¹² For the eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and His ears are open to their prayers: But the face of the LORD is against those that do evil." ¹³ And who is he that will harm you, if you are followers of that which is good?

¹⁰ no evil shall befall you, neither shall any plague come near your dwelling.

¹⁴ The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: And a good man shall be satisfied from himself.

¹² Therefore you shall speak to them this word; 'Thus says the LORD God of Israel, "Every bottle shall be filled with wine" ': And they shall say to you, 'Do we not know certainly that every bottle shall be filled with wine?' ¹³ Then you shall say to them, 'Thus says the LORD, "Behold, I will fill all the inhabitants of this land, even the kings that sit on David's throne, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, with drunkenness. ¹⁴ And I will dash them one against another, even the fathers and the sons together", said the LORD: "I will not pity, nor spare, nor have mercy, but destroy them." ' "

¹⁶ You are filled with shame for glory: Drink also, and let your foreskin be uncovered: The cup of the LORD's right hand shall be turned toward you, and shameful spewing shall be on your glory.

²⁸ And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

²² whether Paul, or Apollos, or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, or things present, or things to come; all are yours; ²³ and you are Christ's; and Christ is God's.

¹⁷ For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, works for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;

¹³ And who is he that will harm you, if you are followers of that which is good?

⁶ Reward her even as she rewarded you, and double to her two-fold more according to her works: With the cup which she has filled, pour out to her double.

¹⁶ These six things the LORD hates: Yes, seven are an abomination to Him: ¹⁷ A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

¹ A false balance is abomination to the LORD: But a just weight is His delight.

²⁰ Those that are of a froward heart are abomination to the LORD: But such as are upright in their way are His delight.

⁸ The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD: But the prayer of the upright is His delight.

¹⁵ The elder and honorable, he is the head; and the prophet that teaches lies, he is the tail.

²⁴ But let him who glories glory in this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the LORD who exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: For in these things I delight", said the LORD.

¹⁹ And will you pollute Me among My people for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread, to slay the souls who should not die, and to save alive the souls that should not live, by your lying to My people who hear your lies?"

²² Because with lies you have made the heart of the righteous sad, whom I have not made sad; and strengthened the hands of the wicked, that he should not return from his wicked way, by promising him life:

⁸ But the fearful, unbelieving, the abominable, murderers, whoremongers, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone: Which is the second death."

¹⁵ For outside are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whoever loves and fabricates a lie.

¹⁴ Wise men lay up knowledge: But the mouth of the foolish is near destruction.

¹⁹ In the multitude of words sin is not lacking: But he that refrains his lips is wise.

¹³ A talebearer reveals secrets: But he that is of a faithful spirit conceals the matter.

¹⁶ Every prudent man deals with knowledge: But a fool lays open his folly.

³ Yes also, when he who is a fool walks by the way, his wisdom fails him, and he says to everyone that he is a fool.

¹² The words of a wise man's mouth are gracious; but the lips of a fool will swallow himself up. ¹³ The words of his mouth begin with foolishness: And the end of his talk is mischievous madness. ¹⁴ A fool also is full of words: A man cannot tell what shall be; and who can tell him what shall be after him?

¹⁵ And he saw that rest was good, and that the land was pleasant; and bowed his shoulder to bear a burden, and became a servant to obligated tribute.

²¹ their children that were left after them in the land, whom the children of Israel also were not able utterly to destroy, on those did Solomon levy a tribute of servantry to this day.

²⁸ And the man Jeroboam was a mighty man of valor: And Solomon seeing the young man that he was industrious, he made him ruler over all the charge of the house of Joseph.

²⁰ And it came to pass, when all Israel heard that Jeroboam was come again, that they sent and called him to the congregation, and made him king over all Israel: There was none that followed the house of David, but the tribe of Judah only.

⁴ He that deals with a slack hand becomes poor: But the hand of the diligent makes rich.

²⁷ The slothful man does not roast that which he took in hunting: But the substance of a diligent man is precious.

⁴ The soul of the sluggard desires, and has nothing: But the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.

² A wise servant shall have rule over a son that causes shame, and shall have part of the inheritance among the brothers.

¹⁵ Slothfulness casts into a deep sleep; and an idle soul shall suffer hunger.

²⁵ The desire of the slothful kills him; for his hands refuse to labor. ²⁶ He covets greedily all the day long: But the righteous gives and spares not.

¹³ The slothful man says, "There is a lion outside, I shall be slain in the streets."

²⁹ See a man diligent in his business? He shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.

³⁰ I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding; ³¹ and, look, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face of it, and its stone wall was broken down. ³² Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction. ³³ Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: ³⁴ So shall your poverty come as one that travels abroad; and your want as an armed man.

¹³ The slothful man says, "There is a lion in the way; a lion is in the streets." ¹⁴ As the door turns upon its hinges, so does the slothful upon his bed. ¹⁵ The slothful hides his hand in his bosom; it grieves him to bring it back again to his mouth. ¹⁶ The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit than seven men that can render a reason.

¹ And it came to pass in the month Nisan, in the twentieth year of Artaxerxes the king, that wine was before him: And I took up the wine, and gave it to the king. Now I had not been beforetime sad in his presence. ² Why the king said to me, Why is your countenance sad, seeing you are not sick? This is nothing else but sorrow of heart. Then I was very severely afraid,

⁶ I am troubled; I am bowed down greatly; I go mourning all the day long.

¹¹ Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God: For I shall yet praise Him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.

¹⁸ There is that which speaks like the piercings of a sword: But the tongue of the wise is health.

¹⁰ The heart knows his own bitterness; and a stranger does not intermeddle with his joy.

¹³ A merry heart makes a cheerful countenance: But by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.

¹⁵ All the days of the afflicted are evil: But he that is of a merry heart has a continual feast.

²² A merry heart does good like a medicine: But a broken spirit dries the bones.

¹⁴ The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear?

¹¹ A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.

⁹ Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart: So does the sweetness of a man's friend by hearty counsel.

⁴ The Lord GOD has given Me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him who is weary: He wakens morning by morning, He wakens my ear to hear as the learned.

¹³ And the LORD answered the angel that talked with me with good words and comfortable words.

³³ And He took Peter, James, and John with Him, and began to be greatly alarmed, and to be very heavy; ³⁴ And He said to them, "My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death: Tarry here, and watch."

⁴ For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote to you with many tears; not that you should be grieved, but that you might know the love which I more abundantly have toward you. ⁵ But if anyone has caused grief, he has not grieved me, except in part: That I may not burden you all. ⁶ Sufficient to such a man is this punishment, which was inflicted by many. ⁷ So that on the contrary you ought rather to forgive him, and comfort him, lest perhaps such a one should be swallowed up with too much sorrow.

³ but to the saints that are in the earth, and to the excellent, in whom is all my delight.

¹² At the brightness that was before Him, His thick clouds passed, hail stones and coals of fire. ¹³ The LORD also thundered in the heavens, and the Highest gave His voice; hail stones and coals of fire.

¹³ The wicked is snared by the transgression of his lips: But the just shall come out of trouble.

²⁷ He that has knowledge spares his words: And a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit.

⁴⁶ For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the publicans do the same? ⁴⁷ And if you salute your brethren only, what do you do more than others? Do not even publicans do so? ⁴⁸ Therefore be perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

³² For if you love those who love you, what thanks do you have? For sinners also love those that love them. ³³ And if you do good to those who do good to you, what thanks do you have? For even sinners do the same also. ³⁴ And if you lend to those from whom you hope to receive back, what thanks do you have? For sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much back. ³⁵ But love your enemies, do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return; and your reward shall be great, and you shall be the children of the Highest: For He is kind to the unthankful and to the evil. ³⁶ Therefore be merciful, as your Father also is merciful.

¹³ Let no man say when he is tempted, "I am tempted by God": For God cannot be tempted with evil, neither does He tempt any man: ¹⁴ But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away by his own lust, and enticed.

¹⁸ Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the crooked. ¹⁹ For this is thank-worthy, if for conscience toward God a man endures grief, suffering wrongfully. ²⁰ For what glory is it if, when you are buffeted for your faults, you take it patiently? But if, when you do well, and suffer for it, you take it patiently, this is acceptable with God. ²¹ For even to this you were called: Because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps:

¹⁸ For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that had truly escaped from those who live in error. ¹⁹ While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: For by whom a man is overcome, by the same he is brought into bondage. ²⁰ For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them, and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning. ²¹ For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than after having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them. ²² But it has happened to them according to the true proverb, "The dog returned to his own vomit again"; and, "the hog that was washed to her wallowing in the mire."

²⁶ These things I have written to you concerning those that seduce you.

⁹ And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceives the whole world: He was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

¹⁴ and deceives those that dwell on the earth by means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to those who dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and lived.

¹⁶ A little that a righteous man has is better than the riches of many wicked.

¹⁶ Better is little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure and trouble with it.

⁸ Better is a little with righteousness than great revenues which are not right.

² And put a knife to your throat, if you are a man given to appetite.

¹⁵ The slothful hides his hand in his bosom; it grieves him to bring it back again to his mouth.

¹⁵ See, I have set before you this day life and good, and death and evil;

¹¹ For by me your days shall be multiplied, and the years of your life shall be increased.

¹⁶ The labor of the righteous tends to life: The fruit of the wicked to sin.

¹⁹ As righteousness tends to life: So he that pursues evil pursues it to his own death.

⁹ has walked in My statutes, and has kept My judgments, to deal truly; he is just, he shall surely live", said the Lord GOD.

²⁰ The soul that sins, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: The righteousness of the righteous shall be on him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be on him. ²¹ But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he has committed, and keep all My statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die. ²² All his transgressions that he has committed, they shall not be mentioned to him: In his righteousness that he has done he shall live. ²³ Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die?" said the Lord GOD: "and not that he should return from his ways, and live?" ²⁴ But when the righteous turns away from his righteousness, and commits iniquity, and does according to all the abominations that the wicked man does, shall he live? All his righteousness that he has done shall not be mentioned: In his trespass that he has trespassed, and in his sin that he has sinned, in them he shall die.

²¹ That as sin has reigned to death, even so might grace reign through righteousness to eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.

²² But now being made free from sin, and having become servants to God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end everlasting life. ²³ For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

¹¹ For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, ¹² teaching us that through denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

²⁹ If you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone who does righteousness is born of Him.

⁷ Little children, let no man deceive you: He that does righteousness is righteous, even as He is righteous.

¹¹ Beloved, do not follow that which is evil, but that which is good. He that does good is of God: But he that does evil has not seen God.
