But mercy and truth shall be to them that devise good. ²³ In all labor there is profit: But the talk of the lips tends only to penury. ²⁴ The crown of the wise is their riches: But the foolishness of fools is folly. ²⁵ A true witness delivers souls: But a deceitful witness speaks lies. ²⁶ In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: And his children shall have a place of refuge. ²⁷ The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death. ²⁸ In the multitude of people is the king's honor: But in the shortfall of people is the destruction of the prince. ²⁹ He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding: But he that is hasty of spirit exalts folly. ³⁰ A sound heart is the life of the flesh: But envy the rottenness of the bones. ³¹ He that oppresses the poor reproaches his Maker: But he that honors Him has mercy on the poor. ³² The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: But the righteous has hope in his death. ³³ Wisdom rests in the heart of him that has understanding: But that which is in the midst of fools is made known. ³⁴ Righteousness exalts a nation: But sin is a reproach to any people. ³⁵ The king's favor is toward a wise servant: But his wrath is against him that causes shame.

¹¹ And all the people that were in the gate, and the elders, said, "We are witnesses. The LORD make the woman who has come into your house like Rachel and like Leah, for these two built the house of Israel: And may you do worthily in Ephratah, and be famous in Bethlehem:

³¹ And it came to pass, as if it had been a light thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, that he took to wife Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal king of the Zidonians, and went and served Baal, and worshiped him.

²⁴ Him that dies of Ahab in the city the dogs shall eat; and him that dies in the field shall the fowls of the air eat. ²⁵ But there was none like to Ahab, which did sell himself to work wickedness in the sight of the LORD, whom Jezebel his wife stirred up.

¹ And when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the seed royal.

¹³ A foolish woman is clamorous: She is simple, and knows nothing. ¹⁴ For she sits at the door of her house, on a seat in the high places of the city, ¹⁵ to call passengers who go right on their ways:

¹³ A foolish son is the calamity of his father: And the contentions of a wife are a continual dropping.

⁹ It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman in a wide house.

¹⁹ It is better to dwell in the wilderness, than with a contentious and an angry woman.

³ Through wisdom a house is built; and by understanding it is established: ⁴ And by knowledge the chambers shall be filled with all precious and pleasant riches.

¹⁰ Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies. ¹¹ The heart of her husband safely trusts in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. ¹² She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life. ¹³ She seeks wool, and flax, and works willingly with her hands. ¹⁴ She is like the merchants' ships; she brings her food from afar. ¹⁵ She also rises while it is yet night, and gives meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens. ¹⁶ She considers a field, and buys it: With the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard. ¹⁷ She girds her loins with strength, and strengthens her arms. ¹⁸ She perceives that her merchandise is good: Her candle does not go out by night. ¹⁹ She lays her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the staff of the spinning wheel. ²⁰ She stretches out her hand to the poor; yes, she reaches forth her hands to the needy. ²¹ She is not afraid of the snow for her household: For all her household are clothed with scarlet. ²² She makes herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple. ²³ Her husband is known in the gates, when he sits among the elders of the land. ²⁴ She makes fine linen, and sells it; and delivers girdles to the merchant. ²⁵ Strength and honor are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come. ²⁶ She opens her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness. ²⁷ She looks well to the ways of her household, and does not eat the bread of idleness. ²⁸ Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her. ²⁹ Many daughters have done virtuously, but you excel them all. ³⁰ Favor is deceitful, and beauty is vain: But a woman that fears the LORD, she shall be praised. ³¹ Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.

⁶ And Solomon said, "You have showed to your servant David my father great mercy, according to as he walked before you in truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with you; and you have kept for him this great kindness, that you have given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day.

¹ There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil.

⁴ I am as one mocked of his neighbor, who calls on God, and he answers him: The just upright man is laughed to scorn.

²⁸ And to man he said, "Behold, the fear of the LORD, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.

²¹ Let integrity and uprightness preserve me; for I wait on You.

¹ Praise the LORD. Blessed is the man that fears the LORD, that delights greatly in His commandments.

³ Have mercy upon us, O LORD, have mercy upon us: For we are exceedingly filled with contempt. ⁴ Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scorning of those who are at ease, and with the contempt of the proud.

¹⁵ whose ways are crooked, and those froward in their paths:

¹² He that is void of wisdom despises his neighbor: But a man of understanding holds his peace.

¹⁷ The highway of the upright is to depart from evil: He that keeps his way preserves his soul.

¹ Better is the poor that walks in his integrity, than he that is perverse in his lips, and is a fool.

⁶ Better is the poor that walks in his uprightness, than he that is perverse in his ways, though he be rich.

¹³ Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: For this is the whole duty of man.

⁵ "My covenant of life and peace was with him; and I gave them to him for the fear with which he feared Me, and was afraid before My name. ⁶ The law of truth was in his mouth, and iniquity was not found in his lips: He walked with Me in peace and equity, and turned many away from iniquity.

¹⁶ He who hears you hears Me; he who despises you despises Me; and he who despises Me despises Him that sent Me."

¹⁴ Moreover the Pharisees, who were covetous, also heard all these things: And they derided Him.

³¹ Then the churches had rest throughout all Judea, Galilee, and Samaria, and were edified; and walking in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, were multiplied.

²² And they said, "Cornelius the centurion, a just man, one that fears God, and has a good reputation among all the nation of the Jews, was warned by a holy angel from God to send for you into his house, and to hear words from you."

³⁵ But in every nation he that fears Him, and works righteousness, is accepted with Him.

⁴ Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance? ⁵ But according to your hardness and impenitent heart you treasure up for yourself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;

² For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, ³ without natural affection, truce-breakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those who are good,

³ Do not talk so exceedingly proudly; let not arrogance proceed out of your mouth: For the LORD is a God of knowledge, and by Him actions are weighed.

²¹ You shall be hid from the whip of the tongue: Neither shall you be afraid of destruction when it comes.

³ The LORD shall cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that speaks proud things:

¹⁸ Let the lying lips be put to silence; which speak grievous things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous.

¹ To the chief Musician, Maschil, A Psalm of David, when Doeg the Edomite came and told Saul, and said unto him, "David has come to the house of Ahimelech." Why do you boast about yourself in mischief, O mighty man? The goodness of God endures continually. ² The tongue devises mischiefs; like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.

⁴ My soul is among lions: And I lie even among those that are set on fire, even the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword.

⁶ The words of the wicked are to lie in wait for blood: But the mouth of the upright shall deliver them.

⁶ A fool's lips enter into contention, and his mouth calls for strokes.

²⁴ Proud and haughty scorner is his name, who deals in proud wrath.

⁸ He that sows iniquity shall reap vanity: And the rod of his anger shall fail.

²⁵ He that is of a proud heart stirs up strife: But he that puts his trust in the LORD shall be made fat.

²⁰ and of the ten horns that were in his head, and of the other which came up, and before whom three fell; even of that horn that had eyes, and a mouth that spoke very great things, whose look was more stout than his fellows.

⁹ that if you shall confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved. ¹⁰ For with the heart man believes to righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made to salvation.

⁵ Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasts great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindles! ⁶ And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: Thus is the tongue among our members, that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.

¹⁸ For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that had truly escaped from those who live in error.

¹⁰ Because you have kept the word of My patience, I also will keep you from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to prove by testing those that dwell upon the earth.

¹¹ And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they did not love their lives to the death.

⁵ And after that I looked, and behold, the temple of the tabernacle of the testimony in heaven was opened: ⁶ And the seven angels came out of the temple, having the seven plagues, clothed in pure and white linen, and having their chests girded with golden girdles.

²³ Much food is in the tilled land of the poor: But there is that which is destroyed for absence of judgment.

⁶ "And I have also given you cleanness of teeth in all your cities, and a want of bread in all your places: Yet you have not returned to Me", says the LORD.

⁹ For it is written in the law of Moses, "You shall not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treads out the grain kernels." Does God take care in favor of oxen? ¹⁰ Or does He say it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: That he that plows should plow in hope; and he that threshes in hope should be a partaker of his hope. ¹¹ If we have sown to you spiritual things, is it a great thing if we shall reap your carnal things?

¹⁶ You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

¹ You shall not raise a false report: Do not put your hand with the wicked to be an unrighteous witness.raise; or, receive

¹³ And there came in two men, children of Belial, and sat before him: And the men of Belial witnessed against him, even against Naboth, in the presence of the people, saying, "Naboth did blaspheme God and the king. Then they carried him forth out of the city, and stoned him with stones, that he died.

¹² And all the prophets prophesied so, saying, "Go up to Ramothgilead, and prosper: For the LORD shall deliver it into the king's hand. ¹³ And the messenger that was gone to call Micaiah spoke to him, saying, "Behold now, the words of the prophets declare good to the king with one mouth: Let your word, I implore you, be like the word of one of them, and speak that which is good. ¹⁴ And Micaiah said, "As the LORD lives, what the LORD said to me, that will I speak.

¹⁹ a false witness that speaks lies, and he that sows discord among brethren.

¹⁷ He that speaks truth shows forth righteousness: But a false witness deceit.

⁵ A righteous man hates lying: But a wicked man is loathsome, and comes to shame.

²⁵ A true witness delivers souls: But a deceitful witness speaks lies.

⁵ A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaks lies shall not escape.

⁹ A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaks lies shall perish.

¹⁸ You open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of Your law.

⁹⁸ Through Your commandments You have made me wiser than my enemies: For they are ever with me. ⁹⁹ I have more understanding than all my teachers: For Your testimonies are my meditation. ¹⁰⁰ I understand more than the ancients, because I keep Your precepts.

⁹ They are all plain to him that understands, and right to those that find knowledge.

²⁴ Wisdom is before him that has understanding; but the eyes of a fool are in the ends of the earth.

² A fool has no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself.

¹² See a man wise in his own conceit? There is more hope for a fool than for him.

²⁰ To the law and to the testimony: If they do not speak according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.

⁹ The wise men are ashamed, they are dismayed and taken: Lo, they have rejected the word of the LORD; and what wisdom is in them?

²² The light of the body is the eye: If therefore your eye is single, your whole body shall be full of light. ²³ But if your eye is evil, your whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness!

²⁵ At that time Jesus answered and said, "I thank you, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent, and have revealed them to babes. ²⁶ Even so, Father: For so it seemed good in Your sight. ²⁷ All things are delivered to Me from My Father: And no man knows the Son, except the Father; neither does any man know the Father, except the Son, and he to whom the Son will reveal Him.

¹¹ He answered and said to them, "Because it is given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. ¹² For whoever has, to him more shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: But whoever does not have, even what he has shall be taken away from him.

²¹ Because although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. ²² Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, ²³ and changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made in likeness to corruptible man, and to birds, and four-footed beasts, and creeping things. ²⁴ Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonor their own bodies between themselves: ²⁵ Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshiped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. ²⁶ For this reason God gave them over to vile affections: For even their women changed the natural use into that which is against nature: ²⁷ And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men performing what is indecent, and receiving in themselves the recompense of their error which was appropriate. ²⁸ And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not proper;

³¹ But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, has not attained to the law of righteousness. ³² Why? Because they did not seek it by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumbling-stone;

¹⁸ Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seems to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise. ¹⁹ For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, "He catches the wise in their own craftiness."

² And if any man thinks that he knows anything, he knows nothing yet as he ought to know.

⁵ If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, that gives to all people liberally, and without suffering reproach; and it shall be given to him.

³ Knowing this first, that scoffers shall come in the last days, walking after their own lusts, ⁴ and saying, "Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers deceased, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation." ⁵ For they are willingly ignorant of this, that by the Word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:

⁶ Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.

²⁰ He that walks with wise men shall be wise: But a companion of fools shall be destroyed.

²⁷ Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causes to err from the words of knowledge.

¹¹ But now I have written to you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother is a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; not to eat with such an one.

¹¹ And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.

¹⁰ The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: A good understanding have all those who do His commandments: His praise endures forever.

⁵ O that my ways were directed to keep Your statutes!

³⁴ Give me understanding, and I shall keep Your law; yes, I shall observe it with my whole heart. ³⁵ Make me to go in the path of Your commandments; for I delight in them.

⁷³ JOD: Your hands have made me and fashioned me: Give me understanding, that I may learn Your commandments.

⁸ Cause me to hear Your lovingkindness in the morning; for I do trust in You: Cause me to know the way in which I should walk; for I lift up my soul to You.

⁹ Then you shall understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yes, every good path.

²⁰ I lead in the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of judgment:

¹⁸ The wicked works a deceitful work: But to him that sows righteousness shall be a sure reward.

²⁰ Lift up your eyes, and behold those who come from the north: Where is the flock that was given to you, your beautiful flock?

¹⁹ And I will say to my soul, "Soul, you have a great many goods laid up for many years; take your ease, eat, drink, and be merry." ' ²⁰ But God said to him, 'You fool, this night your soul shall be required of you: Then whose shall those things be, which you have provided?'

²² That you put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;

¹⁷ Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

⁹ For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; ¹⁰ that you might walk worthy of the Lord as always pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;

¹³ But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.

¹⁵ and that from childhood you have known the Holy scriptures, which are able to make you wise to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. ¹⁶ All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: ¹⁷ That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished for all good works.

¹³ Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? Let him show out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.

¹⁶ How much more abominable and filthy is man, which drinks iniquity like water?

⁷ What man is like Job, who drinks up scorning like water? ⁸ Which goes in company with the workers of iniquity, and walks with wicked men. ⁹ For he has said, "It profits a man nothing that he should delight himself with God.

²² "How long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity? And the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?

⁴ So you shall find favor and good understanding in the sight of God and man.

³⁵ For whoever finds me finds life, and shall obtain favor of the LORD.

²³ It is as sport to a fool to do mischief: But a man of understanding has wisdom.

² A good man obtains favor of the LORD: But a man of wicked devices He will condemn.

¹⁵ Good understanding gives favor: But the way of transgressors is hard.

¹⁸ As a mad man who casts firebrands, arrows, and death, ¹⁹ so is the man that deceives his neighbor, and says, "Am I not just playing?"

²⁰ Such is the way of an adulterous woman; she eats, and wipes her mouth, and says, 'I have done no wickedness.'

¹⁷ For the kingdom of God is not food and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. ¹⁸ For he that serves Christ in these things is acceptable to God, and approved by men.

¹⁸ how they told you there would be mockers in the last time, who would walk after their own ungodly lusts.

²¹ And they said to one another, "We are truly guilty concerning our brother, in that we saw the anguish of his soul, when he sought us, and we would not hear; therefore this distress has come upon us."

¹⁰ And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed to the LORD, and wept sorely.

²⁷ And when she came to the man of God to the hill, she caught him by the feet: But Gehazi came near to thrust her away. And the man of God said, "Let her alone; for her soul is vexed within her: And the LORD has hid it from me, and has not told me.

² oh that my grief were thoroughly weighed, and my calamity laid in the balances together! ³ For now it would be heavier than the sand of the sea: Therefore my words are swallowed up. ⁴ For the arrows of the Almighty are within me, the poison whereof drinks up my spirit: The terrors of God do set themselves in array against me.

¹¹ Therefore I will not refrain my mouth; I will speak in the anguish of my spirit; I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.

¹⁸ He will not suffer me to take my breath, but fills me with bitterness.

¹ My soul is weary of my life; I will leave my complaint on myself; I will speak in the bitterness of my soul.

¹⁴ The secret of the LORD is with those that fear Him; and He will show them His covenant.

¹³ A merry heart makes a cheerful countenance: But by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.

¹⁴ The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear?

¹⁴ So the spirit lifted me up, and took me away, and I went in bitterness, in the heat of my spirit; but the hand of the LORD was strong on me.

³³ And He took Peter, James, and John with Him, and began to be greatly alarmed, and to be very heavy; ³⁴ And He said to them, "My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death: Tarry here, and watch."

²⁷ Now My soul is troubled; and what shall I say? 'Father, save Me from this hour'? But for this reason I came to this hour.

¹⁸ I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

²³ Jesus answered and said to him, "If a man loves Me, he will keep My words: And My Father will love him, and We will come to him, and make Our abode with him.

⁷ And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

⁸ Whom having not seen, you love; in whom, though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with unspeakable joy and full of glory:

¹⁷ "He that has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches; to him that overcomes I will give to eat from the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knows except him that receives it." '

⁶ if you were pure and upright; surely now he would awake for you, and make the habitation of your righteousness prosperous.

¹⁵ He shall lean on his house, but it shall not stand: He shall hold it fast, but it shall not endure.

³⁴ For the congregation of hypocrites shall be desolate, and fire shall consume the tabernacles of bribery.

¹⁴ His confidence shall be rooted out of his tabernacle, and it shall bring him to the king of terrors. ¹⁵ It shall dwell in his tabernacle, because it is none of his: Brimstone shall be scattered on his habitation.

²¹ Surely such are the dwellings of the wicked, and this is the place of him that knows not God.

²⁶ All darkness shall be hid in his secret places: A fire not blown shall consume him; it shall go ill with him that is left in his tabernacle. ²⁷ The heaven shall reveal his iniquity; and the earth shall rise up against him. ²⁸ The increase of his house shall depart, and his goods shall flow away in the day of his wrath.

²⁸ For you say, "Where is the house of the prince? And where are the dwelling places of the wicked?

¹³ This is the portion of a wicked man with God, and the heritage of oppressors, which they shall receive of the Almighty. ¹⁴ If his children be multiplied, it is for the sword: And his offspring shall not be satisfied with bread. ¹⁵ Those that remain of him shall be buried in death: And his widows shall not weep. ¹⁶ Though he heap up silver as the dust, and prepare clothing as the clay; ¹⁷ he may prepare it, but the just shall put it on, and the innocent shall divide the silver. ¹⁸ He builds his house as a moth, and as a booth that the keeper makes. ¹⁹ The rich man shall lie down, but he shall not be gathered: He opens his eyes, and he is not. ²⁰ Terrors take hold on him as waters, a tempest steals him away in the night. ²¹ The east wind carries him away, and he departs: And as a storm hurles him out of his place. ²² For God shall cast on him, and not spare: He would fain flee out of his hand. ²³ Men shall clap their hands at him, and shall hiss him out of his place.

² His seed shall be mighty upon earth: The generation of the upright shall be blessed. ³ Wealth and riches shall be in his house: And his righteousness endures forever.

³ Your wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of your house: Your children like olive plants all around your table.

³³ The curse of the LORD is in the house of the wicked: But He blesses the habitation of the just.

²⁸ He that trusts in his riches shall fall: But the righteous shall flourish as a branch.

⁷ The wicked are overthrown, and are not: But the house of the righteous shall stand.

¹² The righteous man wisely considers the house of the wicked: But God overthrows the wicked for their wickedness.

²⁰ There is treasure to be desired and oil in the dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man spends it all.

¹¹ And the LORD shall guide you continually, and satisfy your soul in drought, and make your bones fat: And you shall be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not. ¹² And those who shall be of you shall build the old waste places: You shall raise up the foundations of many generations; and you shall be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in.

⁴ "I will bring it forth", says the LORD of hosts, "and it shall enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of him that swears falsely by My name: And it shall remain in the midst of his house, and shall consume it with its timber and its stones."

²⁶ And everyone that hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, shall be likened to a foolish man, who built his house upon the sand: ²⁷ And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: And great was the fall of it."

¹⁵ The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: But he that hearkens to counsel is wise.

²⁴ "Strive to enter in at the narrow gate: For many, I say to you, Will seek to enter in, and will not be able.

²¹ What fruit did you have then in those things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death.

³ For if a man thinks himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself.

⁶ Let no man deceive you with vain words: For because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the children of disobedience.

²² But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

⁴ But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword.

² I said of laughter, "It is madness": And of mirth, "What does it accomplish?"

¹⁰ And whatever my eyes desired I did not keep from them, I did not withhold my heart from any joy; for my heart rejoiced in all my labor: And this was my portion of all my labor. ¹¹ Then I looked on all the works that my hands had worked, and on the labor that I had labored to do: And behold, all was vanity and vexation of spirit, and there was no profit under the sun.

⁵ It is better to hear the rebuke of the wise, than for a man to hear the song of fools. ⁶ For as the crackling of thorns under a pot, so is the laughter of the fool: This also is vanity.

⁹ Rejoice, O young man, in your youth; and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth, and walk in the ways of your heart, and in the sight of your eyes: But know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment.

²⁵ But Abraham said, 'Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted, and you are tormented.

⁹ Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: Let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.

⁷ To the degree she has glorified herself, and lived deliciously, give her that much torment and sorrow: For she says in her heart, 'I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow.' ⁸ Therefore her plagues shall come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: For strong is the Lord God Who judges her.

³¹ Therefore they shall eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices. ³² For the backsliding of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.

¹⁴ A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth: And the recompense of a man's hands shall be rendered to him.

¹⁰ The heart knows his own bitterness; and a stranger does not intermeddle with his joy.

¹⁹ Your own wickedness shall correct you, and your backslidings shall reprove you: Know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that you have forsaken the LORD your God, and that My fear is not in you", said the Lord GOD of hosts.

⁵ Why then is this people of Jerusalem slid back by a perpetual backsliding? They hold fast deceit, they refuse to return.

⁵ Thus says the LORD; "Cursed is the man that trusts in man, and makes flesh the arm of his strength, and whose heart departs from the LORD.

³¹ Therefore I have poured out My indignation on them; I have consumed them with the fire of My wrath: Their own way I have recompensed on their heads", said the Lord GOD.

⁶ and those that are turned back from the LORD; and those that have not sought the LORD, nor inquired for Him."

¹⁴ But whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life."

¹² For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly toward you.

⁴ But let every man prove his own work, and then he shall have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.

⁸ For he that sows to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that sows to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.

¹² Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.

²⁴ Now she went forth, and said to her mother, "What shall I ask?" And she said, "The head of John the Baptist." ²⁵ And she came in immediately with haste to the king, and asked it, saying, "I desire that without delay you give me the head of John the Baptist on a platter."

⁴⁰ Then some of the Pharisees who were with Him heard these words, and said to Him, "Are we blind also?"

²² Abstain from all appearance of evil.

⁶ And he thought scorn to lay hands on Mordecai alone; for they had showed him the people of Mordecai: Therefore Haman sought to destroy all the Jews that were throughout the whole kingdom of Ahasuerus, even the people of Mordecai.

⁵ Then the king Ahasuerus answered and said to Esther the queen, "Who is he, and where is he, that dared presume in his heart to do so? ⁶ And Esther said, "The adversary and enemy is this wicked Haman." Then Haman was afraid before the king and the queen.

²⁶ 'For among My people are found wicked men: They lay wait, as he who sets snares; they set a trap, they catch men. ²⁷ As a cage is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit: Therefore they have become great, and waxen rich. ²⁸ They are waxen fat, they shine: Yes, they overpass the deeds of the wicked: They do not judge the cause, the cause of the fatherless, yet they prosper; and the right of the needy they do not judge. ²⁹ Shall I not visit for these things?' said the LORD: 'shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?

¹⁹ Therefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:

³⁵ The wise shall inherit glory: But shame shall be the promotion of fools.

⁷ Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: And with all your getting get understanding. ⁸ Exalt her, and she shall promote you: She shall bring you to honor, when you do embrace her. ⁹ She shall give to your head an ornament of grace: A crown of glory she shall deliver to you.

¹⁹ O LORD, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles shall come to You from the ends of the earth, and shall say, "Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things in which there is no profit."

¹⁷ But we will certainly do whatever thing goes forth out of our own mouth, to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings to her, as we have done, we, and our fathers, our kings, and our princes, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem: For then we had plenty of food, and were well, and saw no evil.

³ And those who are wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and those who turn many to righteousness as the stars forever and ever.

²⁹ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you build the tombs of the prophets, and adorn the sepulchers of the righteous, ³⁰ and say, 'If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.' ³¹ Therefore you are witnesses against yourselves, that you are the children of those who killed the prophets. ³² Fill up then the measure of your fathers.

⁸ Furthermore, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, shall give me in that day: And not to me only, but also to all those that love His appearing.

¹⁸ Consider that as you know you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;

⁴ And when the Chief Shepherd shall appear, you shall receive a crown of glory that does not fade away.

⁸ And all these, your servants, shall come down to me, and bow down themselves to me, saying, 'Get out, you and all the people that follow you': And after that I will go out." And he went out from Pharaoh in a great anger.

Then the king said, "Will he also force the queen before me in the house?" As the word went out of the king's mouth, they covered Haman's face.

My eyes shall behold her: Now she shall be trodden down as the mire of the streets.

¹⁶ The nations shall see and be confounded at all their might: They shall lay their hand upon their mouth, their ears shall be deaf. ¹⁷ They shall lick the dust like a serpent, they shall move out of their holes like worms of the earth: They shall be afraid of the LORD our God, and shall fear because of You.

³ And all of you shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this", says the LORD of hosts.

³⁹ Therefore they came and implored them, and brought them out, and desired that they depart out of the city.

⁹ Behold, I will make those of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them come and worship before your feet, and to know that I have loved you.

² And all the king's servants, that were in the king's gate, bowed, and reverenced Haman: For the king had so commanded concerning him. But Mordecai did not bow, nor did he reverence.

²¹ For now you are nothing; you see my casting down, and are afraid. ²² Did I say, "Bring to me? Or, Give a reward for me of your substance? ²³ Or, Deliver me from the enemy's hand? Or, Redeem me from the hand of the mighty?

¹³ He has put my brothers far from me, and my acquaintance are truly estranged from me. ¹⁴ My kinsfolk have failed, and my familiar friends have forgotten me.

¹⁰ They abhor me, they flee far from me, and spare not to spit in my face.

¹⁵ The rich man's wealth is his strong city: The destruction of the poor is their poverty.

⁴ Wealth makes many friends; but the poor is separated from his neighbor.

⁶ Many will entreat the favor of the prince: And every man is a friend to him that gives gifts. ⁷ All the brothers of the poor do hate him: How much more do his friends go far from him? He pursues them with words, yet they are absent from him.

¹³ If I did despise the cause of my manservant or of my maidservant, when they contended with me; ¹⁴ what then shall I do when God rises up? And when he visits, what shall I answer him? ¹⁵ Did not he that made me in the womb make him? And did not one fashion us in the womb?

⁵ Look to heaven, and see; and behold the clouds which are higher than you. ⁶ If you sin, what do you against him? Or if your transgressions be multiplied, what do you to him?

²⁴ For He has not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; neither has He hid His face from him; but when he cried out to Him, He heard.

¹ To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. Blessed is he that considers the poor: The LORD will deliver him in time of trouble. ² The LORD will preserve him, and keep him alive; and he shall be blessed upon the earth: And You will not deliver him to the will of his enemies.

⁵ A good man shows favor, and lends: He will guide his affairs with discretion.

⁹ He has dispersed, he has given to the poor; his righteousness endures forever; his horn shall be exalted with honor.

²⁴ There is that which scatters, and yet increases; and there is that which withholds more than is right, but it tends to poverty. ²⁵ The soul that blesses shall be made fat: And he that waters shall also be watered himself.

³¹ He that oppresses the poor reproaches his Maker: But he that honors Him has mercy on the poor.

⁵ Whoever mocks the poor reproaches his Maker: And he that is glad at calamities shall not be unpunished.

³ When the wicked comes, then also comes contempt, and with ignominy comes reproach.

¹⁷ He that has pity upon the poor lends to the LORD; and that which he has given He will repay him again.

²⁷ He that gives to the poor shall not lack: But he that hides his eyes shall have many a curse.

¹ Cast your bread upon the waters: For you shall find it after many days. ² Give a portion to seven, and also to eight; for you do not know what evil shall be on the earth.

⁷ Is it not to deal your bread to the hungry, and that you bring the poor that are cast out to your house? When you see the naked, that you cover him; and that you do not hide yourself from your own flesh? ⁸ Then your light shall break forth like the morning, and your health shall spring forth speedily: And your righteousness shall go before you; the glory of the LORD shall be your rear-guard. ⁹ Then you shall call, and the LORD shall answer; you shall cry, and He shall say, 'Here I am.' If you take away the yoke from the midst of you, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity; ¹⁰ and if you draw out your soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then your light shall rise in obscurity, and your darkness be like the noon day:

²⁷ Therefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable to you, and break off your sins by righteousness, and your iniquities by showing mercy to the poor; if it may be a lengthening of your tranquility."

³⁴ Then the King shall say to those on His right hand, 'Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: ³⁵ For I was hungry, and you gave Me food: I was thirsty, and you gave Me drink: I was a stranger, and you took Me in: ³⁶ Naked, and you clothed Me: I was sick, and you visited Me: I was in prison, and you came to Me.' ³⁷ Then the righteous shall answer Him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry, and feed You? Or thirsty, and gave You a drink?' ³⁸ When did we see You a stranger, and take You in? Or naked, and clothe You? ³⁹ Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and came to You?' ⁴⁰ And the King shall answer and say to them, 'Truly I say to you, Inasmuch as you have done it to one of the least of these My brethren, you have done it to Me.' ⁴¹ Then He shall say also to those on the left hand, 'Depart from Me, you cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: ⁴² For I was hungry, and you gave Me no food: I was thirsty, and you gave Me no drink: ⁴³ I was a stranger, and you did not take Me in: Naked, and you did not clothe Me: Sick, and in prison, and you did not visit Me.' ⁴⁴ Then they also shall answer Him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister to You?' ⁴⁵ Then He shall answer them, saying, 'Truly I say to you, Inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.' ⁴⁶ And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: But the righteous into life eternal."

³⁰ Give to every man that asks of you; and from him that takes away your goods, do not ask for them back again. ³¹ And as you would like that men should do to you, you also do to them likewise. ³² For if you love those who love you, what thanks do you have? For sinners also love those that love them. ³³ And if you do good to those who do good to you, what thanks do you have? For even sinners do the same also. ³⁴ And if you lend to those from whom you hope to receive back, what thanks do you have? For sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much back. ³⁵ But love your enemies, do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return; and your reward shall be great, and you shall be the children of the Highest: For He is kind to the unthankful and to the evil. ³⁶ Therefore be merciful, as your Father also is merciful.

⁹ Moreover He spoke this parable to certain ones who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:

³⁵ I have shown you all things, how by so laboring you ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how He said, 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.' "

¹² That you are not slothful, but followers of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

⁵ Hearken, my beloved brethren, has not God chosen the poor of this world to be rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which He has promised to those that love Him? ⁶ But you have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats?

¹⁴ What does it profit, my brethren, though a man says he has faith, and does not have works? Can faith save him? ¹⁵ If a brother or sister is naked, and destitute of daily food, ¹⁶ and one of you says to them, "Depart in peace, be warmed and filled"; but you do not give them those things which are needful to the body; what does it profit?

¹⁷ But whoever has this world's good life, and sees his brother have need, and shuts up his inner heart of compassion from him, how does the love of God dwell in him? ¹⁸ My little children, let us not love in word, nor in tongue; but in deed and in truth. ¹⁹ And by this we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before Him. ²⁰ For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things. ²¹ Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, then we have confidence toward God. ²² And whatever we ask, we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in His sight.

²⁷ And he said, "Blessed be the LORD God of my master Abraham, Who has not left destitute my master of His mercy and His truth: I being in the pathway, the LORD led me to the house of my master's brothers."

⁸ But the LORD said to David my father, For as much as it was in your heart to build a house for my name, you did well in that it was in your heart:

¹⁰ All the paths of the LORD are mercy and truth to such as keep His covenant and His testimonies.

⁷ He shall abide before God forever: O prepare mercy and truth, which may preserve him.

²⁹ Do not devise evil against your neighbor, seeing he dwells securely by you.

¹⁷ He that is soon angry deals foolishly: And a man of wicked devices is hated.

¹⁷ For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

¹⁰ He that winks with the eye causes sorrow: But a prating fool shall fall.

²⁴ The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: But the slothful shall be under tribute.

¹⁹ He that tills his land shall have plenty of bread: But he that follows after vain persons shall have poverty enough.

³ For a dream comes through the multitude of business; and a fool's voice is known by a multitude of words.

²⁷ Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man shall give to you: For God the Father has sealed Him."

¹⁰ For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: That if anyone would not work, neither should he eat. ¹¹ For we hear that there are some who walk among you disorderly, not working at all, but are busybodies. ¹² Now those who are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread.

¹³ And together they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house; and not only idle, but also tattlers and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not.

¹⁰ For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labor of love, which you have shown toward His name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister. ¹¹ And we desire that every one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope to the end:

¹⁰ For he sees that wise men die, likewise the fool and the brutish person perish, and leave their wealth to others. ¹¹ Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue forever, and their dwelling places to all generations; they call their lands after their own names. ¹² Nevertheless, man being in honor does not remain: He is like the beasts that perish. ¹³ Their way is their folly: Yet their posterity approve their sayings. Selah.

²² Though you pound a fool in a mortar among wheat with a pestle, yet his foolishness will not depart from him.

¹¹ Wisdom with an inheritance is good: And by it there is profit to those who see the sun. ¹² For wisdom is a defense, and money is a defense: But the excellency of knowledge is that wisdom gives life to those who have it.

⁶ And wisdom and knowledge shall be the stability of your times, and strength of salvation: The fear of the LORD is His treasure.

⁹ And I say to you, Make for yourselves friends of the mammon of unrighteousness; that when you fail, they may receive you into everlasting habitations.

¹⁹ There was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: ²⁰ Also there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, who was laid at his gate, full of sores, ²¹ and desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: Moreover, the dogs came and licked his sores. ²² And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: The rich man also died, and was buried; ²³ And in hell he lifted up his eyes, being in torments, and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. ²⁴ Then he cried and said, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.' ²⁵ But Abraham said, 'Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted, and you are tormented.

⁵ A faithful witness will not lie: But a false witness will utter lies.

²¹ testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.

²⁶ Therefore I testify for the record this day, that I am pure from the blood of all men. ²⁷ For I have not shunned to declare to you all the counsel of God.

¹⁶ But rise, and stand upon your feet: For I have appeared to you for this purpose, to make you a minister and a witness both of the things which you have seen, and of those things which I will show to you; ¹⁷ delivering you from the people, and from the Gentiles, to whom I now send you, ¹⁸ to open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith that is in Me.' ¹⁹ "Given wholly to this, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision: ²⁰ But brought word first to those of Damascus, and in Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works worthy for repentance.

¹ Now the Spirit expressly speaks, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; ² speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; ³ forbidding to marry; and commanding to abstain from meats, which God has created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.

³ Knowing this first, that scoffers shall come in the last days, walking after their own lusts,

⁴² Unless the God of my father, the God of Abraham, and the fear of Isaac, had been with me, surely you would have now sent me away empty-handed. God has seen my affliction and the labor of my hands, and rebuked you last night."

⁷ The angel of the LORD encamps all around those that fear Him, and delivers them. ⁸ O taste and see that the LORD is good: Blessed is the man that trusts in him. ⁹ O fear the LORD, you His saints: For there is no want to those that fear Him. ¹⁰ The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: But those that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing. ¹¹ Come, you children, listen to me: I will teach you the fear of the LORD.

⁶ Surely he shall not be moved forever: The righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance. ⁷ He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: His heart is stable, trusting in the LORD. ⁸ His heart is established, he shall not be afraid, until he sees his desire upon his enemies.

¹³ He will bless those who fear the LORD, both small and great. ¹⁴ The LORD shall increase you more and more, you and your children.

⁷ Do not be wise in your own eyes: Fear the LORD, and depart from evil. ⁸ It shall be health to your navel, and marrow to your bones.

²⁵ Do not be afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it comes. ²⁶ For the LORD shall be your confidence, and shall keep your foot from being taken.

¹⁰ The name of the LORD is a strong tower: The righteous runs into it, and is safe.

²³ The fear of the LORD tends to life: And he that has it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.

¹⁸ It is good that you should take hold of this; yes, also do not withdraw your hand from this: For he who fears God shall come escape from them all.

²⁰ Come, My people, enter into your chambers, and shut your doors behind you: Hide yourself as it were for a little moment, until the indignation pass over. ²¹ For, behold, the LORD comes out of His place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity: The earth also shall disclose her blood, and will no longer cover her slain.

¹¹ The LORD said, "Truly it shall be well with your remnant; truly I will cause the enemy to entreat you well in the time of evil and in the time of affliction.

³⁹ And I will give them one heart, and one way, that they may fear Me forever, for the good of them, and of their children after them: ⁴⁰ And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from them, to do them good; but I will put My fear in their hearts, that they shall not depart from Me.

¹⁶ Then those that feared the LORD spoke to one another often: And the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before Him for those that feared the LORD, and that thought upon His name. ¹⁷ "And they shall be Mine", says the LORD of hosts, "in that day when I make up My jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spares his own son that serves him." ¹⁸ Then you all shall return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serves God and him that does not serve Him.

² But to you that fear My name, the Sun of Righteousness shall arise with healing in His wings; and you all shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.

⁵ The sorrows of hell compassed around me: The snares of death hindered me.

¹⁰ When wisdom enters into your heart, and knowledge is pleasant to your soul; ¹¹ discretion shall preserve you, understanding shall keep you: ¹² To deliver you from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaks froward things; ¹³ who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness; ¹⁴ who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the frowardness of the wicked; ¹⁵ whose ways are crooked, and those froward in their paths: ¹⁶ To deliver you from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flatters with her words; ¹⁷ that forsakes the guide of her youth, and forgets the covenant of her God. ¹⁸ For her house inclines to death, and her paths to the dead.

¹⁴ The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

⁵ Thorns and snares are in the way of the froward: He that keeps his soul shall be far from them.

²⁶ And I find more bitter than death the woman, whose heart is snares and nets, and her hands as fetters: Whoever pleases God shall escape from her; but the sinner shall be taken by her.

⁶ And He said to me, "It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him that is thirsty.

¹² But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew. And they were grieved because of the children of Israel.

²² And Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, "Every son that is born you shall cast into the river, and every daughter you shall save alive."

²⁰ Judah and Israel were many, as the sand which is by the sea in multitude, eating and drinking, and making merry. ²¹ And Solomon reigned over all kingdoms from the river to the land of the Philistines, and to the border of Egypt: They brought presents, and served Solomon all the days of his life.

²⁷ And the children of Israel were numbered, and were all present, and went against them: And the children of Israel pitched before them like two little flocks of kids; but the Syrians filled the country.

³² In those days the LORD began to cut Israel short: And Hazael smote them in all the borders of Israel; ³³ from Jordan eastward, all the land of Gilead, the Gadites, and the Reubenites, and the Manassites, from Aroer, which is by the river Arnon, even Gilead and Bashan.

⁷ Neither did he leave of the people to Jehoahaz but fifty horsemen, and ten chariots, and ten thousand footmen; for the king of Syria had destroyed them, and had made them like the dust by threshing.

³ (Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were on the face of the earth).

⁸ Exalt her, and she shall promote you: She shall bring you to honor, when you do embrace her.

¹¹ The discretion of a man defers his anger; and it is his glory to pass over a transgression.

²⁴ Make no friendship with an angry man; and you shall not go with a furious man: ²⁵ Lest you learn his ways, and get a snare to your soul.

⁸ Do not go hastily forth to strive, lest you know not what to do in the end of it, when your neighbor has put you to shame.

²⁸ He that has no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.

⁶ Folly is set in great dignity, and the rich sit in a low place.

¹⁹ Then Nebuchadnezzar was full of fury, and the expression of his face was changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego: Therefore he spoke, and commanded that they should heat the furnace seven times more than it was usually heated. ²⁰ And he commanded the most mighty men that were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and to cast them into the burning fiery furnace. ²¹ Then these men were bound in their coats, their trousers, and their hats, and their other garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace. ²² Therefore because the king's commandment was urgent, and the furnace exceedingly hot, the flame of the fire slew those men who took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. ²³ And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace. ²⁴ Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonished, and rose up in haste, and spoke, and said to his counselors, "Did we not cast three men bound into the midst of the fire?" They answered and said to the king, "True, O king." ²⁵ He answered and said, "Look, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they are not hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God."

¹⁶ Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked by the wise men, was exceedingly wroth, and sent forth, and killed all the children that were in Bethlehem, and inside all its borders, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently inquired of the wise men.

²⁹ Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: And you shall find rest for your souls.

⁴ Love suffers long, and is kind; love does not envy; love does not vaunt itself, is not puffed up, ⁵ does not behave indecently itself, does not seek her own, is not easily provoked, thinks no evil;

¹⁷ But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. ¹⁸ And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those that make peace.

² For wrath kills the foolish man, and envy slays the silly one.

¹⁰ The wicked shall see it, and be grieved; he shall gnash with his teeth, and melt away: The desire of the wicked shall perish.

⁸⁰ Let my heart be sound in Your statutes; that I am not ashamed.

⁸ It shall be health to your navel, and marrow to your bones.

²³ Keep your heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

⁴ A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: But she that makes ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.

²² A merry heart does good like a medicine: But a broken spirit dries the bones.

⁹ "And the patriarchs, moved with envy, sold Joseph into Egypt: But God was with him,

²⁹ being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; being whisperers,

⁷ For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

⁵ Do you think that the scripture says in vain, "The Spirit that dwells in us lusts to envy"?

¹³ If I did despise the cause of my manservant or of my maidservant, when they contended with me; ¹⁴ what then shall I do when God rises up? And when he visits, what shall I answer him? ¹⁵ Did not he that made me in the womb make him? And did not one fashion us in the womb? ¹⁶ If I have withheld the poor from their desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail;

⁵ "For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, I will now arise", says the LORD; "I will set him in safety from he that puffs at him."puffs at him; or, would ensnare him

²¹ He that despises his neighbor sins: But he that has mercy on the poor, happy is he.

² The rich and poor meet together: The LORD is the maker of them all.

¹⁶ He that oppresses the poor to increase his riches, and he that gives to the rich, shall surely come to want.

²² Do not rob the poor, because he is poor: Neither oppress the afflicted in the gate: ²³ For the LORD will plead their cause, and spoil the soul of those that spoiled them.

⁸ If you see the oppression of the poor, and violent perverting of judgment and justice in a province, do not marvel at the matter: For he who is higher than the highest observes; and there be higher than they.

⁸ For the poor you always have with you; but Me you do not always have."

⁷ Therefore, as you abound in everything, in faith, and utterance, and knowledge, and in all diligence, and in your love to us, see that you abound in this grace also. ⁸ I speak not by commandment, but by occasion of the confidence of others, and to prove the sincerity of your love. ⁹ For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that through His poverty you might be rich.

¹⁷ But whoever has this world's good life, and sees his brother have need, and shuts up his inner heart of compassion from him, how does the love of God dwell in him? ¹⁸ My little children, let us not love in word, nor in tongue; but in deed and in truth. ¹⁹ And by this we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before Him. ²⁰ For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things. ²¹ Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, then we have confidence toward God.

²¹ And this commandment we have from Him, that he who loves God love his brother also.

¹⁸ I have waited for Your salvation, O LORD.

¹⁵ Though he slay me, yet I will trust in him: But I will maintain my own ways before him.

¹⁸ He shall be driven from light into darkness, and chased out of the world.

²⁵ For I know that my redeemer lives, and that he shall stand at the latter day on the earth: ²⁶ And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God: ²⁷ Whom I shall see for myself, and my eyes shall behold, and not another; though my reins be consumed within me.

²⁰ Terrors take hold on him as waters, a tempest steals him away in the night. ²¹ The east wind carries him away, and he departs: And as a storm hurles him out of his place. ²² For God shall cast on him, and not spare: He would fain flee out of his hand.

¹¹ You will show me the path of life: In Your presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand there are pleasures forevermore.

¹⁵ As for me, I will behold Your face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with Your likeness.

⁴ Yes, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff they comfort me.

³⁷ Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: For the end of that man is peace.

⁹ Before your pots can feel the burning thorn branches, He shall take them away as with a whirlwind, both living, and in His wrath.

¹⁵ Therefore his calamity shall come suddenly; suddenly he shall be broken without remedy.

¹⁶ For a just man falls seven times, and rises up again: But the wicked shall fall into mischief.

²⁶ This is the interpretation of the thing: MENE; God has numbered your kingdom, and finished it. ²⁷ TEKEL; you are weighed in the balances, and are found wanting. ²⁸ PERES; your kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians." ²⁹ Then Belshazzar commanded, and they clothed Daniel with scarlet, and put a chain of gold around his neck, and made a proclamation concerning him, that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom. ³⁰ During that night Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans was slain.

²⁹ "Lord, now let Your servant depart in peace, according to Your word:

²¹ Then Jesus said to them again, "I go My way, and you shall seek Me, and shall die in your sins: The place I go you cannot come."

²⁴ Therefore, I said to you that you shall die in your sins: For if you do not believe that I am He, you shall die in your sins."

²² What if God, willing to show His wrath, and to make His power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction:

⁵⁵ "O Death, where is your sting? O grave, where is your victory?" ⁵⁶ The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. ⁵⁷ But thanks be to God, which gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. ⁵⁸ Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, seeing you know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.

⁹ But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raises the dead:

⁸ We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

²¹ For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.

²³ For I am in a difficult strait between two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:

³ For when they shall say, "Peace and safety"; then sudden destruction comes upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

¹⁸ And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me for His heavenly kingdom: To whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.

¹³ Then I heard a voice from heaven saying to me, "Write, 'Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from this time forward' ": "Yes", says the Spirit, "that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them."

²³ A prudent man conceals knowledge: But the heart of fools proclaims foolishness.

¹⁶ Every prudent man deals with knowledge: But a fool lays open his folly.

² The tongue of the wise uses knowledge aright: But the mouth of fools pours out foolishness.

²⁸ The heart of the righteous studies to answer: But the mouth of the wicked pours out evil things.

¹¹ A fool utters all his mind: But a wise man keeps it in till afterwards.

³ Yes also, when he who is a fool walks by the way, his wisdom fails him, and he says to everyone that he is a fool.

⁶ Keep therefore and do them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the nations, which shall hear all these statutes, and say, "Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people. ⁷ For what nation is there so great, who has God so near to them, as the LORD our God is in all things that we call on him for? ⁸ And what nation is there so great, that has statutes and judgments so righteous as all this law, which I set before you this day?

¹ And it shall come to pass, if you shall listen diligently to the voice of the LORD your God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command you this day, that the LORD your God will set you on high above all nations of the earth: ² And all these blessings shall come on you, and overtake you, if you shall hearken to the voice of the LORD your God. ³ Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the field. ⁴ Blessed shall be the fruit of your body, and the fruit of your ground, and the fruit of your domestic beasts, the increase of your cows, and the flocks of your sheep. ⁵ Blessed shall be your basket and your store. ⁶ Blessed shall you be when you come in, and blessed shall you be when you go out. ⁷ The LORD shall cause your enemies that rise up against you to be smitten before your face: They shall come out against you one way, and flee before you seven ways. ⁸ The LORD shall command the blessing on you in your storehouses, and in all that you set your hand to; and he shall bless you in the land which the LORD your God gives you. ⁹ The LORD shall establish you a holy people to himself, as he has sworn to you, if you shall keep the commandments of the LORD your God, and walk in his ways. ¹⁰ And all people of the earth shall see that you are called by the name of the LORD; and they shall be afraid of you. ¹¹ And the LORD shall make you plenteous in goods, in the fruit of your body, and in the fruit of your domestic beasts, and in the fruit of your ground, in the land which the LORD swore to your fathers to give you. ¹² The LORD shall open to you his good treasure, the heaven to give the rain to your land in his season, and to bless all the work of your hand: And you shall lend to many nations, and you shall not borrow. ¹³ And the LORD shall make you the head, and not the tail; and you shall be above only, and you shall not be beneath; if that you listen to the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you this day, to observe and to do them: ¹⁴ And you shall not go aside from any of the words which I command you this day, to the right hand side, or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them. ¹⁵ But it shall come to pass, if you will not hearken to the voice of the LORD your God, to observe to do all His commandments and His statutes which I command you this day; that all these curses shall come on you, and overtake you: ¹⁶ Cursed shall you be in the city, and cursed shall you be in the field. ¹⁷ Cursed shall be your basket and your store. ¹⁸ Cursed shall be the fruit of your body, and the fruit of your land, the increase of your cows, and the flocks of your sheep. ¹⁹ Cursed shall you be when you come in, and cursed shall you be when you go out. ²⁰ The LORD shall send on you cursing, vexation, and rebuke, in all that you set your hand to for to do, until you be destroyed, and until you perish quickly; because of the wickedness of your doings, by which you have forsaken me. ²¹ The LORD shall make the pestilence stick to you, until he have consumed you from off the land, where you go to possess it. ²² The LORD shall smite you with a consumption, and with a fever, and with an inflammation, and with an extreme burning, and with the sword, and with blasting, and with mildew; and they shall pursue you until you perish. ²³ And your heaven that is over your head shall be brass, and the earth that is under you shall be iron. ²⁴ The LORD shall make the rain of your land powder and dust: From heaven it shall come down upon you, until you are destroyed. ²⁵ The LORD shall cause you to be smitten before your enemies: You shall go out one way against them, and flee seven ways before them: And shall be removed into all the kingdoms of the earth. ²⁶ And your carcass shall be meat to all fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth, and no man shall fray them away. ²⁷ The LORD will smite you with the botch of Egypt, and with the tumors, and with the scab, and with the itch, whereof you cannot be healed. ²⁸ The LORD shall smite you with madness, and blindness, and astonishment of heart: ²⁹ And you shall grope at noonday, as the blind gropes in darkness, and you shall not prosper in your ways: And you shall be only oppressed and spoiled ever more, and no man shall save you. ³⁰ You shall betroth a wife, and another man shall lie with her: You shall build a house, and you shall not dwell in it: You shall plant a vineyard, and shall not gather its grapes. ³¹ Your ox shall be slain before your eyes, and you shall not eat of it: Your donkey shall be violently taken away from before your face, and shall not be restored to you: Your sheep shall be given to your enemies, and you shall have none to rescue them. ³² Your sons and your daughters shall be given to another people, and your eyes shall look, and fail with longing for them all the day long; and there shall be no might in your hand. ³³ The fruit of your land, and all your labors, shall a nation which you know not eat up; and you shall be only oppressed and crushed always: ³⁴ So that you shall be mad for the sight of your eyes which you shall see. ³⁵ The LORD shall smite you in the knees, and in the legs, with a sore botch that cannot be healed, from the sole of your foot to the top of your head. ³⁶ The LORD shall bring you, and your king which you shall set over you, to a nation which neither you nor your fathers have known; and there you shall serve other gods, wood and stone. ³⁷ And you shall become an astonishment, a proverb, and a byword, among all nations where the LORD shall lead you. ³⁸ You shall carry much seed out into the field, and shall gather but little in; for the locust shall consume it. ³⁹ You shall plant vineyards, and dress them, but shall neither drink of the wine, nor gather the grapes; for the worms shall eat them. ⁴⁰ You shall have olive trees throughout all your coasts, but you shall not anoint yourself with the oil; for your olive shall cast his fruit. ⁴¹ You shall beget sons and daughters, but you shall not enjoy them; for they shall go into captivity. ⁴² All your trees and fruit of your land shall the locust consume. ⁴³ The stranger that is within you shall get up above you very high; and you shall come down very low. ⁴⁴ He shall lend to you, and you shall not lend to him: He shall be the head, and you shall be the tail. ⁴⁵ Moreover all these curses shall come on you, and shall pursue you, and overtake you, till you be destroyed; because you did not hearken to the voice of the LORD your God, to keep His commandments and His statutes which he commanded you: ⁴⁶ And they shall be upon you for a sign and for a wonder, and on your seed forever. ⁴⁷ Because you served not the LORD your God with joyfulness, and with gladness of heart, for the abundance of all things; ⁴⁸ therefore you shall serve your enemies which the LORD shall send against you, in hunger, and in thirst, and in nakedness, and in want of all things: And he shall put a yoke of iron on your neck, until he have destroyed you. ⁴⁹ The LORD shall bring a nation against you from far, from the end of the earth, as swift as the eagle flies; a nation whose tongue you shall not understand; ⁵⁰ A nation of fierce countenance, which shall not regard the person of the old, nor show favor to the young: ⁵¹ And he shall eat the fruit of your domestic beasts, and the fruit of your land, until you be destroyed: Which also shall not leave you either grain, wine, or oil, or the increase of your cows, or flocks of your sheep, until he have destroyed you. ⁵² And he shall besiege you in all your gates, until your high and fenced walls come down, in which you trusted, throughout all your land: And he shall besiege you in all your gates throughout all your land, which the LORD your God has given you. ⁵³ And you shall eat the fruit of your own body, the flesh of your sons and of your daughters, which the LORD your God has given you, in the siege, and in the narrow place, with which your enemies shall distress you: ⁵⁴ So that the man that is tender among you, and very delicate, his eye shall be evil toward his brother, and toward the wife of his bosom, and toward the remnant of his children which he shall leave: ⁵⁵ So that he will not give to any of them of the flesh of his children whom he shall eat: Because he has nothing left him in the siege, and in the narrow place, with which your enemies shall distress you in all your gates. ⁵⁶ The tender and delicate woman among you, which would not adventure to set the sole of her foot upon the ground for delicateness and tenderness, her eye shall be evil toward the husband of her bosom, and toward her son, and toward her daughter, ⁵⁷ and toward her young one that comes out from between her feet, and toward her children which she shall bear: For she shall eat them for want of all things secretly in the siege and narrow place, with which your enemy shall distress you in your gates. ⁵⁸ If you will not observe to do all the words of this law that are written in this book, that you may fear this glorious and fearful name, THE LORD THY GOD; ⁵⁹ then the LORD will make your plagues wonderful, and the plagues of your seed, even great plagues, and of long continuance, and sore sicknesses, and of long continuance. ⁶⁰ Moreover he will bring on you all the diseases of Egypt, which you were afraid of; and they shall stick to you. ⁶¹ Also every sickness, and every plague, which is not written in the book of this law, them will the LORD bring on you, until you be destroyed. ⁶² And you shall be left few in number, whereas you were as the stars of heaven for multitude; because you would not obey the voice of the LORD your God. ⁶³ And it shall come to pass, that as the LORD rejoiced over you to do you good, and to multiply you; so the LORD will rejoice over you to destroy you, and to bring you to nothing; and you shall be plucked from off the land where you go to possess it. ⁶⁴ And the LORD shall scatter you among all people, from the one end of the earth even to the other; and there you shall serve other gods, which neither you nor your fathers have known, even wood and stone. ⁶⁵ And among these nations shall you find no ease, neither shall the sole of your foot have rest: But the LORD shall give you there a trembling heart, and failing of eyes, and sorrow of mind: ⁶⁶ And your life shall hang in doubt before you; and you shall fear day and night, and shall have none assurance of your life: ⁶⁷ In the morning you shall say, "Would God it were even! And at sunset you shall say, "Would God it were morning! For the fear of your heart with which you shall fear, and for the sight of your eyes which you shall see. ⁶⁸ And the LORD shall bring you into Egypt again with ships, by the way whereof I spoke to you, You shall see it no more again: And there you shall be sold to your enemies for servants and bondwomen, and no man shall buy you.

¹⁸ Lest there should be among you man, or woman, or family, or tribe, whose heart turns away this day from the LORD our God, to go and serve the gods of these nations; lest there should be among you a root that bears gall and wormwood; ¹⁹ and it come to pass, when he hears the words of this curse, that he bless himself in his heart, saying, "I shall have peace, though I walk in the imagination of my heart, to add drunkenness to thirst: ²⁰ The LORD will not spare him, but then the anger of the LORD and his jealousy shall smoke against that man, and all the curses that are written in this book shall lie on him, and the LORD shall blot out his name from under heaven. ²¹ And the LORD shall separate him to evil out of all the tribes of Israel, according to all the curses of the covenant that are written in this book of the law: ²² So that the generation to come of your children that shall rise up after you, and the stranger that shall come from a far land, shall say, "when they see the plagues of that land, and the sicknesses which the LORD has laid on it; ²³ and that the whole land of it is brimstone, and salt, and burning, that it is not sown, nor bears, nor any grass grows in it, like the overthrow of Sodom, and Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboim, which the LORD overthrew in his anger, and in his wrath: ²⁴ Even all nations shall say, "Why has the LORD done thus to this land? What means the heat of this great anger? ²⁵ Then men shall say, "Because they have forsaken the covenant of the LORD God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them forth out of the land of Egypt: ²⁶ For they went and served other gods, and worshiped them, gods whom they knew not, and whom he had not given to them: ²⁷ And the anger of the LORD was kindled against this land, to bring on it all the curses that are written in this book: ²⁸ And the LORD rooted them out of their land in anger, and in wrath, and in great indignation, and cast them into another land, as it is this day.

⁶ And when Joshua had let the people go, the children of Israel went every man to his inheritance to possess the land. ⁷ And the people served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great works of the LORD, that he did for Israel. ⁸ And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died, being a hundred and ten years old. ⁹ And they buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnathheres, in the mount of Ephraim, on the north side of the hill Gaash. ¹⁰ And also all that generation were gathered to their fathers: And there arose another generation after them, which did not know the LORD, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel. ¹¹ And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD, and served Baalim: ¹² And they forsook the LORD God of their fathers, which brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods, of the gods of the people that were all around them, and bowed themselves to them, and provoked the LORD to anger. ¹³ And they forsook the LORD, and served Baal and Ashtaroth. ¹⁴ And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel, and he delivered them into the hands of spoilers that spoiled them, and he sold them into the hands of their enemies all around, so that they could not any longer stand before their enemies.

³⁴ A fruitful land into barrenness, for the wickedness of those who dwell in it.

² "Go and cry in the ears of Jerusalem, saying, 'Thus says the LORD; "I remember you, the kindness of your youth, the love of your espousals, when you went after Me in the wilderness, in a land that was not sown. ³ Israel was holiness to the LORD, and the firstfruits of his increase: All that devour him shall offend; evil shall come upon them", said the LORD.' " ⁴ Hear the word of the LORD all of you, O house of Jacob, and all the families of the house of Israel: ⁵ Thus says the LORD, "What iniquity have your fathers found in Me, that they have gone far from Me, and have walked after vanity, and have become vain? ⁶ Neither did they say, 'Where is the LORD who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, that led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and of pits, through a land of drought, and of the shadow of death, through a land that no man passed through, and where no man dwelled?' ⁷ And I brought you into a plentiful country, to eat its fruit and its goodness; but when you entered, you defiled My land, and made My heritage an abomination. ⁸ The priests did not say, 'Where is the LORD?' And those who handle the law did not know Me: The pastors also transgressed against Me, and the prophets prophesied by Baal, and walked after things that do not profit. ⁹ Why will I yet plead with you", said the LORD, "and with your children's children I will plead. ¹⁰ For pass over the isles of Chittim, and see; and send to Kedar, and consider diligently, and see if there is such a thing. ¹¹ Has a nation changed their gods, which are not yet gods? But My people have changed their glory for that which does not profit. ¹² Be astonished, O you heavens, at this, and be horribly afraid, be very desolate all of you", said the LORD. ¹³ "For My people have committed two evils; they have forsaken Me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water. ¹⁴ Is Israel a servant? Is he a home-born slave? Why is he spoiled? ¹⁵ The young lions roared on him, and yelled, and they made his land waste: His cities are burned without inhabitant. ¹⁶ Also the children of Noph and Tahapanes have broken the crown of your head. ¹⁷ Have you not procured this to yourself, in that you have forsaken the LORD your God, when He led you by the way? ¹⁸ And now what have you to do in the way of Egypt, to drink the waters of Sihor? Or what have you to do in the way of Assyria, to drink the waters of the river? ¹⁹ Your own wickedness shall correct you, and your backslidings shall reprove you: Know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that you have forsaken the LORD your God, and that My fear is not in you", said the Lord GOD of hosts. ²⁰ "For from old times I have broken your yoke, and burst your bands; and you said, 'I will not transgress'; when on every high hill and under every green tree you wander, playing the harlot. ²¹ Yet I had planted you a noble vine, wholly a right seed: How then are you turned into the degenerate plant of a strange vine to me? ²² For though you wash yourself with nitre, and take much soap, yet your iniquity is marked before me", said the Lord GOD. ²³ "How can you say, 'I am not polluted, I have not gone after Baalim?' See your way in the valley, know what you have done: You are a swift dromedary traversing her ways; ²⁴ A wild donkey used to the wilderness, that snuffs up the wind at her pleasure; in her occasion who can turn her away? All those that seek her will not weary themselves; in her month they shall find her. ²⁵ Withhold your foot from being unshod, and your throat from thirst: But you said, 'There is no hope: No; for I have loved strangers, and after them I will go.'

¹ Again the word of the LORD came to me, saying, ² "Son of man, cause Jerusalem to know her abominations, ³ and say, 'Thus says the Lord GOD to Jerusalem; "Your birth and your nativity is of the land of Canaan; your father was an Amorite, and your mother a Hittite. ⁴ And as for your nativity, in the day you were born your navel was not cut, neither were you washed in water to supple you; you were not salted at all, nor swaddled at all. ⁵ No eye pitied you, to do any of these to you, to have compassion on you; but you were cast out in the open field, to the loathing of your person, in the day that you were born. ⁶ And when I passed by you, and saw you polluted in your own blood, I said to you when you were in your blood, 'Live'; yes, I said to you when you were in your blood, 'Live.' ⁷ I have caused you to multiply as the bud of the field, and you have increased and become great, and you have come to excellent ornaments: Your breasts are fashioned, and your hair is grown, whereas you were naked and bare. ⁸ Now when I passed by you, and looked on you, behold, your time was the time of love; and I spread my skirt over you, and covered your nakedness: Yes, I swore to you, and entered into a covenant with you", said the Lord GOD, "and you became Mine. ⁹ Then I washed you with water; yes, I thoroughly washed away your blood from you, and I anointed you with oil. ¹⁰ I also clothed you with broidered work, and shod you with badgers' skin, and I girded you about with fine linen, and I covered you with silk. ¹¹ I decked you also with ornaments, and I put bracelets upon your hands, and a chain on your neck. ¹² And I put a jewel on your forehead, and earrings in your ears, and a beautiful crown on your head. ¹³ Thus were you decked with gold and silver; and your clothing was of fine linen, and silk, and broidered work; you ate fine flour, and honey, and oil: And you were exceeding beautiful, and you did prosper into a kingdom. ¹⁴ And your renown went forth among the heathen for your beauty: For it was perfect through My splendor, which I had put on you", said the Lord GOD. ¹⁵ "But you trusted in your own beauty, and played the harlot because of your renown, and poured out your fornications on every one who passed by; his it was. ¹⁶ And you took from your garments, and decked your high places with various colors, and played the harlot upon them: Things which should not come, neither should they be so. ¹⁷ You have also taken your fair jewels of My gold and of My silver, which I had given you, and made to yourself images of men, and did commit whoredom with them, ¹⁸ and took your broidered garments, and covered them: And you have set My oil and My incense before them. ¹⁹ Also My meat which I gave you, fine flour, and oil, and honey, with which I fed you, you have even set it before them for a sweet smell: And thus it was", said the Lord GOD. ²⁰ "Moreover you have taken your sons and your daughters, whom you have borne to Me, and you have sacrificed these ones to them to be devoured. Are your whoredoms a small matter, ²¹ that you have slain My children, and delivered and caused these ones to pass through the fire for them? ²² And in all your abominations and your whoredoms you have not remembered the days of your youth, when you were naked and bare, and were polluted in your blood. ²³ And it came to pass after all your wickedness, ('woe, woe to you!' said the Lord GOD); ²⁴ That you have also built to yourselves an eminent place, and have made a high place in every street. ²⁵ You have built your high place at every head of a road, and have made your beauty to be abhorred, and have opened your feet to everyone who passed by, and multiplied your whoredoms. ²⁶ You have also committed fornication with your neighbors the Egyptians, great of flesh; and have increased your whoredoms, to provoke Me to anger. ²⁷ Behold, therefore I have outstretched My hand over you, and have diminished your ordinary food, and delivered you to the will of those who hate you, the daughters of the Philistines, who are ashamed of your lewd way. ²⁸ You have also played the whore with the Assyrians, because you were insatiable; yes, you have played the harlot with them, and yet could not be satisfied. ²⁹ Moreover you have multiplied your fornication in the land of Canaan to Chaldea; and yet even with this you were not satisfied. ³⁰ How weak is your heart", said the Lord GOD, "seeing you do all these things, the work of an imperious whorish woman; ³¹ in that you build your eminent place at the head of every road, and make your high place in every street; and have not been as a harlot, in that you scorn hire; ³² but rather as a wife who commits adultery, who takes strangers instead of her husband! ³³ They give gifts to all whores: But you give your gifts to all your lovers, and hire them, that they may come to you on every side for your whoredom. ³⁴ And you are contrary from other women in your whoredoms, in that no one follows you to commit whoredoms: And in that you give a reward, and no reward is given to you, therefore you are contrary." ³⁵ Therefore, O harlot, hear the word of the LORD: ³⁶ Thus says the Lord GOD; "Because your filthiness was poured out, and your nakedness discovered through your whoredoms with your lovers, and with all the idols of your abominations, and by the blood of your children, which you gave to them; ³⁷ behold, therefore I will gather all your lovers, with whom you have taken pleasure, and all those who you have loved, with all those who you have hated; I will even gather them against you on every side, and will uncover your nakedness to them, that they may see all your nakedness. ³⁸ And I will judge you, as women who break wedlock and shed blood are judged; and I will bring blood upon you in fury and jealousy. ³⁹ And I will also give you into their hand, and they shall throw down your eminent place, and shall break down your high places: They shall also strip you of your clothes, and shall take your fair jewels, and leave you naked and bare. ⁴⁰ They shall also bring up a company against you, and they shall stone you with stones, and thrust you through with their swords. ⁴¹ And they shall burn your houses with fire, and execute judgments on you in the sight of many women: And I will cause you to cease from playing the harlot, and also you shall no longer give hire. ⁴² So I will make My fury toward you to rest, and My jealousy shall depart from you, and I will be quiet, and will no longer be angry. ⁴³ Because you have not remembered the days of your youth, but have fretted Me in all these things; behold, therefore I will also recompense your way upon your head", said the Lord GOD: "and you shall not commit this lewdness above all your abominations. ⁴⁴ Behold, everyone who uses proverbs shall use this proverb against you, saying, 'As is the mother, so is her daughter.' ⁴⁵ You are your mother's daughter, who lothes her husband and her children; and you are the sister of your sisters, who loathed their husbands and their children: Your mother was a Hittite, and your father an Amorite. ⁴⁶ And your elder sister is Samaria, she and her daughters who dwell at your left hand: And your younger sister, who dwells at your right hand, is Sodom and her daughters. ⁴⁷ Yet you have not walked after their ways, nor done after their abominations: But, as if that were a very little thing, you were corrupted more than they in all your ways. ⁴⁸ As I live", said the Lord GOD, "Sodom your sister has not done, she nor her daughters, as you have done, you and your daughters. ⁴⁹ Behold, this was the iniquity of your sister Sodom, pride, fullness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy. ⁵⁰ And they were haughty, and committed abomination before Me: Therefore I took them away as I saw good. ⁵¹ Neither has Samaria committed half of your sins; but you have multiplied your abominations more than they, and have justified your sisters in all your abominations which you have done. ⁵² You also, who have judged your sisters, bear your own shame for your sins that you have committed more abominable than they: They are more righteous than you: Yes, be confounded also, and bear your shame, in that you have justified your sisters. ⁵³ When I shall bring their captivity again, the captivity of Sodom and her daughters, and the captivity of Samaria and her daughters, then I will bring back the captivity of your captives in the midst of them: ⁵⁴ That you may bear your own shame, and may be confounded in all that you have done, in that you are a comfort to them. ⁵⁵ When your sisters, Sodom and her daughters, shall return to their former estate, and Samaria and her daughters shall return to their former estate, then you and your daughters shall return to your former estate. ⁵⁶ For your sister Sodom was not mentioned by your mouth in the day of your pride, ⁵⁷ before your wickedness was discovered, as at the time of your reproach of the daughters of Syria, and all who are around her, the daughters of the Philistines, who despise you all around. ⁵⁸ You have borne your lewdness and your abominations", said the LORD. ⁵⁹ For thus says the Lord GOD; "I will even deal with you as you have done, who have despised the oath in breaking the covenant. ⁶⁰ Nevertheless I will remember My covenant with you in the days of your youth, and I will establish to you an everlasting covenant. ⁶¹ Then you shall remember your ways, and be ashamed, when you shall receive your sisters, your elder and your younger: And I will give them to you for daughters, but not by your covenant. ⁶² And I will establish My covenant with you; and you shall know that I am the LORD: ⁶³ That you may remember, and be confounded, and never open your mouth any more because of your shame, when I am pacified toward you for all that you have done", said the Lord GOD.' "

¹ Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying, ² "Now, you son of man, will you judge, will you judge the bloody city? Yes, you shall show her all her abominations. ³ Then say, 'Thus says the Lord GOD, "The city sheds blood in the midst of it, that her time may come, and makes idols against herself to defile herself. ⁴ You have become guilty in your blood that you have shed; and have defiled yourself in your idols which you have made; and you have caused your days to draw near, and have come to the full measure of your years: Therefore I have made you a reproach to the heathen, and a mocking to all countries. ⁵ Those who are near, and those who are far from you shall mock you, you who are infamous and much vexed. ⁶ Behold, the princes of Israel, everyone in you has used their power to shed blood. ⁷ In you they have set light by father and mother: In the midst of you they have dealt with the stranger by oppression: In you they have vexed the fatherless and the widow. ⁸ You have despised My holy things, and have profaned My Sabbaths. ⁹ In you are men who carry tales to shed blood: And in you they eat upon the mountains: In the midst of you they commit lewdness. ¹⁰ In you they have discovered their fathers' nakedness: In you they have humbled her who was set apart for pollution. ¹¹ And one has committed abomination with his neighbor's wife; and another has lewdly defiled his daughter-in-law; and another in you has humbled his sister, his father's daughter. ¹² In you they have taken gifts to shed blood; you have taken usury and increase, and you have greedily gained from your neighbors by extortion, and have forgotten Me", said the Lord GOD. ¹³ "Behold, therefore I have smitten My hand at your dishonest gain which you have made, and at your blood which has been in the midst of you. ¹⁴ Can your heart endure, or can your hands be strong, in the days that I shall deal with you? I the LORD have spoken it, and will do it. ¹⁵ And I will scatter you among the heathen, and disperse you in the countries, and will consume your filthiness out of you. ¹⁶ And you shall take your inheritance in yourself in the sight of the heathen, and you shall know that I am the LORD." ' " ¹⁷ And the word of the LORD came to me, saying, ¹⁸ "Son of man, the house of Israel has become dross to Me: They are brass, and tin, and iron, and lead, in the midst of the furnace; they are even the dross of silver." ¹⁹ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; "Because you have all become dross, behold, therefore I will gather you into the midst of Jerusalem. ²⁰ As they gather silver, and brass, and iron, and lead, and tin, into the middle of the furnace, to blow the fire on it, to melt it; so will I gather you in My anger and in My fury, and I will leave you there, and melt you. ²¹ Yes, I will gather you, and blow on you in the fire of My wrath, and you shall be melted in the midst of it. ²² As silver is melted in the middle of the furnace, so you shall be melted in the midst of it; and you shall know that I the LORD have poured out My fury on you.' " ²³ And the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

¹ When Ephraim spoke trembling, he exalted himself in Israel; but when he offended in Baal, he died.

⁴ A froward heart shall depart from me: I will not know a wicked person. ⁵ Whoever privately slanders his neighbor, him I will cut off: He who has a high look and a proud heart I will not suffer. ⁶ My eyes shall be upon the faithful of the land, that they may dwell with me: He who walks in a perfect way, he shall serve me. ⁷ He who works deceit shall not dwell within my house: He who tells lies shall not tarry in my sight. ⁸ I will soon destroy all the wicked of the land; that I may cut off all wicked doers from the city of the LORD.

⁵ He that gathers in summer is a wise son: But he that sleeps in harvest is a son which causes shame.

² A wise servant shall have rule over a son that causes shame, and shall have part of the inheritance among the brothers.

¹² The king's wrath is as the roaring of a lion; but his favor is as dew upon the grass. ¹³ A foolish son is the calamity of his father: And the contentions of a wife are a continual dropping.

²⁶ He that injures his father by violence, and chases away his mother, is a son that causes shame, and brings reproach.

⁸ A king that sits in the throne of judgment scatters away all evil with his eyes.

²⁶ A wise king scatters the wicked, and brings the wheel over them.

¹¹ He that loves pureness of heart, for the grace of his lips the king shall be his friend.

⁵ Take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.

¹² If a ruler hearkens to lies, all his servants are wicked.

⁴⁵ Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord has made ruler over his household, to give them food in due season? ⁴⁶ Blessed is that servant, whom his lord shall find so doing when he comes. ⁴⁷ Truly I say to you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods. ⁴⁸ But if that evil servant says in his heart, 'My lord delays his coming'; ⁴⁹ and begins to smite his fellow-servants, and to eat and drink with the drunken; ⁵⁰ the lord of that servant shall come on a day when he is not looking for him, and at an hour that he is not aware of, ⁵¹ and shall cut him apart, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

²¹ His lord said to him, 'Well done, you good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things: Enter into the joy of your lord.'

²³ His lord said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things: Enter into the joy of your lord.'

⁴² And the Lord said, "Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of food in due season? ⁴³ Blessed is that servant, whom his lord shall find so doing when he comes. ⁴⁴ Truly, I say to you, That he will make him ruler over all that he has. ⁴⁵ But then, if that servant says in his heart, 'My lord delays his coming'; and begins to beat the menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and be drunk; ⁴⁶ the lord of that servant shall come on a day when he is not looking for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in two, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers. ⁴⁷ And that servant, which knew his lord's will, and did not prepare himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. ⁴⁸ But he that did not know, and committed things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with a few stripes. For to whomever much is given, from him much shall be required: And to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask all the more.
