²² And they shall be gathered together, as prisoners are gathered in the pit, and shall be shut up in the prison, and after many days they shall be visited.

¹⁶ But these five kings fled, and hid themselves in a cave at Makkedah. ¹⁷ And it was told Joshua, saying, "The five kings are found hid in a cave at Makkedah.

²² Then said Joshua, Open the mouth of the cave, and bring out those five kings to me out of the cave. ²³ And they did so, and brought forth those five kings to him out of the cave, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, and the king of Eglon. ²⁴ And it came to pass, when they brought out those kings to Joshua, that Joshua called for all the men of Israel, and said to the captains of the men of war which went with him, Come near, put your feet on the necks of these kings. And they came near, and put their feet on the necks of them. ²⁵ And Joshua said to them, "Fear not, nor be dismayed, be strong and of good courage: For thus shall the LORD do to all your enemies against whom you fight. ²⁶ And afterward Joshua smote them, and slew them, and hanged them on five trees: And they were hanging on the trees until the evening.

¹⁹ And they shall go into the holes of the rocks, and into the caves of the earth, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of His majesty, when He rises to shake terribly the earth.

⁴ Without Me they shall bow down under the prisoners, and they shall fall under the slain. For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is outstretched still.

¹⁷ Fear, and the pit, and the snare, are on you, O inhabitant of the earth.

²² But this is a people robbed and spoiled; all of them are snared in holes, and they are hid in prison houses: They are for a prey, and none delivers; for a spoil, and none said, "Restore."

⁶ Then they took Jeremiah, and cast him into the dungeon of Malchiah the son of Hammelech, that was in the court of the prison: And they let down Jeremiah with cords. And in the dungeon there was no water, but mire: So Jeremiah sunk in the mire. ⁷ Now when Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, one of the eunuchs who was in the king's house, heard that they had put Jeremiah in the dungeon; the king then sitting in the gate of Benjamin; ⁸ ebedmelech went forth out of the king's house, and spoke to the king saying, ⁹ "My lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet, whom they have cast into the dungeon; and he is likely to die for hunger in the place where he is: For there is no more bread in the city." ¹⁰ Then the king commanded Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, saying, "Take from hence thirty men with you, and take up Jeremiah the prophet out of the dungeon, before he dies." ¹¹ So Ebedmelech took the men with him, and went into the house of the king under the treasury, and took there old cast clouts and old rotten rags, and let them down by cords into the dungeon to Jeremiah. ¹² And Ebedmelech the Ethiopian said to Jeremiah, "Now put these old cast clouts and rotten rags under your armholes under the cords." And Jeremiah did so. ¹³ So they drew up Jeremiah with cords, and took him up out of the dungeon: And Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison.

⁸ After many days you shall be visited: In the latter years you shall come into the land that is brought back from the sword, and is gathered out of many people, against the mountains of Israel, which have always been waste: But it is brought forth out of the nations, and they shall dwell safely, all of them.

¹¹ As for you also, by the blood of your covenant I have sent forth your prisoners out of the pit in which there is no water.
