¹ The words of Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah, of the priests that were in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin: ² To whom the word of the LORD came in the days of Josiah the son of Amon king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign. ³ It came also in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, to the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiah the son of Josiah king of Judah, to the carrying away of Jerusalem captive in the fifth month. ⁴ Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying, ⁵ "Before I formed you in the belly I knew you; and before you came forth out of the womb I sanctified you, and I ordained you a prophet to the nations." ⁶ Then I said, "Ah, Lord GOD! Behold, I cannot speak: For I am a child." ⁷ But the LORD said to me, "Do not say, 'I am a child': For you shall go to all whom I shall send you, and whatever I command you you shall speak. ⁸ Do not be afraid of their faces: For I am with you to deliver you", said the LORD. ⁹ Then the LORD put forth His hand, and touched my mouth. And the LORD said to me, "Behold, I have put My words in your mouth. ¹⁰ See, I have this day set you over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant." ¹¹ Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying, "Jeremiah, what do you see?" And I said, "I see a branch of an almond tree." ¹² Then the LORD said to me, "You have seen well: For I will hasten My word to perform it." ¹³ And the word of the LORD came to me the second time, saying, "What do you see?" And I said, "I see a seething pot; and the face of it is toward the north." ¹⁴ Then the LORD said to me, "Out of the north an evil shall break forth on all the inhabitants of the land. ¹⁵ For lo, I will call all the families of the kingdoms of the north", said the LORD; "and they shall come, and they shall each one set his throne at the entering of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all its walls all around, and against all the cities of Judah. ¹⁶ And I will utter My judgments against them touching all their wickedness, who have forsaken Me, and have burned incense to other gods, and worshiped the works of their own hands. ¹⁷ You therefore gird up your loins, and arise, and speak to them all whom I command you: Be not dismayed at their faces, lest I confound you before them. ¹⁸ For, behold, I have made you this day a defended city, and an iron pillar, and brazen walls against the whole land, against the kings of Judah, against its princes, against its priests, and against the people of the land. ¹⁹ And they shall fight against you; but they shall not prevail against you; for I am with you", said the LORD, "to deliver you."

¹⁷ And out of the tribe of Benjamin, Gibeon with her suburbs, Geba with her suburbs, ¹⁸ anathoth with her suburbs, and Almon with her suburbs; four cities.

⁶⁰ And out of the tribe of Benjamin; Geba with her suburbs, and Alemeth with her suburbs, and Anathoth with her suburbs. All their cities throughout their families were thirteen cities.

²¹ To fulfill the word of the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah, until the land had enjoyed her Sabbaths: For as long as she lay desolate she kept Sabbath, to fulfill three score and ten years.

¹ The vision of Isaiah the son of Amoz, which he saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah.

¹ The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.

²¹ Therefore thus says the LORD of the men of Anathoth, who seek your life, saying, "Do not prophesy in the name of the LORD, that you do not die by our hand":

⁷ 'Behold, Hanameel the son of Shallum your uncle shall come to you saying, "Buy my field that is in Anathoth: For the right of redemption is yours to buy it." ' ⁸ So Hanameel my uncle's son came to me in the court of the prison according to the word of the LORD, and said to me, 'Buy my field, I implore you, that is in Anathoth, which is in the country of Benjamin: For the right of inheritance is yours, and the redemption is yours; buy it for yourself.' Then I knew that this was the word of the LORD. ⁹ And I bought the field of Hanameel my uncle's son, that was in Anathoth, and weighed him the money, even seventeen shekels of silver.

³ the word of the LORD came expressly to Ezekiel the priest, the son of Buzi, in the land of the Chaldeans by the river Chebar; and the hand of the LORD was there on him.

¹ The words of Amos, who was among the herdsmen of Tekoa, which he saw concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash king of Israel, two years before the earthquake.

¹⁰ Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, "Amos has conspired against you in the midst of the house of Israel: The land is not able to bear all his words.

²⁰ And it came to pass, as they sat at the table, that the word of the LORD came to the prophet that brought him back:

²⁴ And the people of the land slew all those that had conspired against king Amon; and the people of the land made Josiah his son king in his stead.

¹ Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem one and thirty years. ² And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, and walked in the ways of David his father, and declined neither to the right hand side, nor to the left. ³ For in the eighth year of his reign, while he was yet young, he began to seek after the God of David his father: And in the twelfth year he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem from the high places, and the groves, and the carved images, and the molten images. ⁴ And they broke down the altars of Baalim in his presence; and the images, that were on high above them, he cut down; and the groves, and the carved images, and the molten images, he broke in pieces, and made dust of them, and strewed it on the graves of those that had sacrificed to them. ⁵ And he burnt the bones of the priests on their altars, and cleansed Judah and Jerusalem. ⁶ And so did he in the cities of Manasseh, and Ephraim, and Simeon, even to Naphtali, with their mattocks all around. ⁷ And when he had broken down the altars and the groves, and had beaten the graven images into powder, and cut down all the idols throughout all the land of Israel, he returned to Jerusalem. ⁸ Now in the eighteenth year of his reign, when he had purged the land, and the house, he sent Shaphan the son of Azaliah, and Maaseiah the governor of the city, and Joah the son of Joahaz the recorder, to repair the house of the LORD his God. ⁹ And when they came to Hilkiah the high priest, they delivered the money that was brought into the house of God, which the Levites that kept the doors had gathered of the hand of Manasseh and Ephraim, and of all the remnant of Israel, and of all Judah and Benjamin; and they returned to Jerusalem. ¹⁰ And they put it in the hand of the workmen that had the oversight of the house of the LORD, and they gave it to the workmen that worked in the house of the LORD, to repair and amend the house: ¹¹ Even to the artificers and builders gave they it, to buy hewn stone, and timber for couplings, and to floor the houses which the kings of Judah had destroyed. ¹² And the men did the work faithfully: And the overseers of them were Jahath and Obadiah, the Levites, of the sons of Merari; and Zechariah and Meshullam, of the sons of the Kohathites, to set it forward; and other of the Levites, all that could skill of instruments of music. ¹³ Also they were over the bearers of burdens, and were overseers of all that worked the work in any manner of service: And of the Levites there were scribes, and officers, and porters. ¹⁴ And when they brought out the money that was brought into the house of the LORD, Hilkiah the priest found a book of the law of the LORD given by Moses. ¹⁵ And Hilkiah answered and said to Shaphan the scribe, "I have found the book of the law in the house of the LORD." And Hilkiah delivered the book to Shaphan. ¹⁶ And Shaphan carried the book to the king, and brought the king word back again, saying, "All that was committed to your servants, they do it. ¹⁷ And they have gathered together the money that was found in the house of the LORD, and have delivered it into the hand of the overseers, and to the hand of the workmen. ¹⁸ Then Shaphan the scribe told the king, saying, "Hilkiah the priest has given me a book. And Shaphan read it before the king. ¹⁹ And it came to pass, when the king had heard the words of the law, that he tore his clothes. ²⁰ And the king commanded Hilkiah, and Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Abdon the son of Micah, and Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah a servant of the king's, saying, ²¹ go, inquire of the LORD for me, and for those that are left in Israel and in Judah, concerning the words of the book that is found: For great is the wrath of the LORD that is poured out on us, because our fathers have not kept the word of the LORD, to do after all that is written in this book. ²² And Hilkiah, and those that the king had appointed, went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvath, the son of Hasrah, keeper of the wardrobe; (now she dwelled in Jerusalem in the college): And they spoke to her to that effect. ²³ And she answered them, Thus says the LORD God of Israel, Tell you the man that sent you to me, ²⁴ 'Thus says the LORD, "Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, and upon its inhabitants, even all the curses that are written in the book which they have read before the king of Judah: ²⁵ Because they have forsaken me, and have burned incense to other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands; therefore my wrath shall be poured out on this place, and shall not be quenched. ²⁶ And as for the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of the LORD, so shall you say to him, Thus says the LORD God of Israel concerning the words which you have heard; ²⁷ because your heart was tender, and you did humble yourself before God, when you heard his words against this place, and against its inhabitants, and humbled yourself before me, and did rend your clothes, and weep before me; I have even heard you also", says the LORD. ²⁸ Behold, I will gather you to your fathers, and you shall be gathered to your grave in peace, neither shall your eyes see all the evil that I will bring on this place, and on the inhabitants of the same. So they brought the king word again. ²⁹ Then the king sent and gathered together all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem. ³⁰ And the king went up into the house of the LORD, and all the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and the priests, and the Levites, and all the people, great and small: And he read in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant that was found in the house of the LORD. ³¹ And the king stood in his place, and made a covenant before the LORD, to walk after the LORD, and to keep his commandments, and his testimonies, and his statutes, with all his heart, and with all his soul, to perform the words of the covenant which are written in this book. ³² And he caused all that were present in Jerusalem and Benjamin to stand to it. And the inhabitants of Jerusalem did according to the covenant of God, the God of their fathers. ³³ And Josiah took away all the abominations out of all the countries that pertained to the children of Israel, and made all that were present in Israel to serve, even to serve the LORD their God. And all his days they departed not from following the LORD, the God of their fathers.

⁴ Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

¹¹ Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying, "Jeremiah, what do you see?" And I said, "I see a branch of an almond tree."

³ "From the thirteenth year of Josiah the son of Amon king of Judah, even to this day, that is the three and twentieth year, the word of the LORD has come to me, and I have spoken to you, rising early and speaking; but you have not listened.

² "Take a scroll of a book, and write in it all the words that I have spoken to you against Israel, and against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spoke to you, from the days of Josiah, even to this day.

¹ The word of the LORD that came to Hosea, the son of Beeri, in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel.

¹ Now the word of the LORD came to Jonah the son of Amittai, saying,

¹ The word of the LORD that came to Micah the Morasthite in the days of Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, which he saw concerning Samaria and Jerusalem.

³⁴ And Pharaohnechoh made Eliakim the son of Josiah king in the place of Josiah his father, and turned his name to Jehoiakim, and took Jehoahaz away: And he came to Egypt, and died there.

¹ In his days Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up, and Jehoiakim became his servant three years: Then he turned and rebelled against him. ² And the LORD sent against him bands of the Chaldeans, and bands of the Syrians, and bands of the Moabites, and bands of the children of Ammon, and sent them against Judah to destroy it, according to the word of the LORD, which he spoke by his servants the prophets. ³ Surely at the commandment of the LORD came this on Judah, to remove them out of his sight, for the sins of Manasseh, according to all that he did; ⁴ and also for the innocent blood that he shed: For he filled Jerusalem with innocent blood; which the LORD would not pardon. ⁵ Now the rest of the acts of Jehoiakim, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? ⁶ So Jehoiakim slept with his fathers: And Jehoiachin his son reigned in his stead. ⁷ And the king of Egypt came not again any more out of his land: For the king of Babylon had taken from the river of Egypt to the river Euphrates all that pertained to the king of Egypt. ⁸ Jehoiachin was eighteen years old when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem three months. And his mother's name was Nehushta, the daughter of Elnathan of Jerusalem. ⁹ And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his father had done.

¹⁷ And the king of Babylon made Mattaniah his father's brother king in his stead, and changed his name to Zedekiah. ¹⁸ Zedekiah was twenty and one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Hamutal, the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah. ¹⁹ And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, according to all that Jehoiakim had done. ²⁰ For through the anger of the LORD it came to pass in Jerusalem and Judah, until he had cast them out from his presence, that Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon.

¹⁷ The height of the one pillar was eighteen cubits, and the capital on it was brass: And the height of the capital three cubits; and the interweaved work, and pomegranates on the capital all around, all of brass: And like to these had the second pillar with interweaved work. ¹⁸ And the captain of the guard took Seraiah the chief priest, and Zephaniah the second priest, and the three keepers of the door: ¹⁹ And out of the city he took an officer that was set over the men of war, and five men of those that were in the king's presence, which were found in the city, and the principal scribe of the host, which mustered the people of the land, and three score men of the people of the land that were found in the city: ²⁰ And Nebuzaradan captain of the guard took these, and brought them to the king of Babylon to Riblah: ²¹ And the king of Babylon smote them, and slew them at Riblah in the land of Hamath. So Judah was carried away out of their land. ²² And as for the people that remained in the land of Judah, whom Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had left, even over them he made Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, ruler. ²³ And when all the captains of the armies, they and their men, heard that the king of Babylon had made Gedaliah governor, there came to Gedaliah to Mizpah, even Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and Johanan the son of Careah, and Seraiah the son of Tanhumeth the Netophathite, and Jaazaniah the son of a Maachathite, they and their men. ²⁴ And Gedaliah swore to them, and to their men, and said to them, "Fear not to be the servants of the Chaldeans: Dwell in the land, and serve the king of Babylon; and it shall be well with you. ²⁵ But it came to pass in the seventh month, that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, the son of Elishama, of the seed royal, came, and ten men with him, and smote Gedaliah, that he died, and the Jews and the Chaldeans that were with him at Mizpah. ²⁶ And all the people, both small and great, and the captains of the armies, arose, and came to Egypt: For they were afraid of the Chaldeans. ²⁷ And it came to pass in the seven and thirtieth year of the captivity of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the twelfth month, on the seven and twentieth day of the month, that Evilmerodach king of Babylon in the year that he began to reign did lift up the head of Jehoiachin king of Judah out of prison; ²⁸ and he spoke kindly to him, and set his throne above the throne of the kings that were with him in Babylon; ²⁹ and changed his prison garments: And he ate bread continually before him all the days of his life. ³⁰ And his allowance was a continual allowance given him of the king, a daily rate for every day, all the days of his life.

¹⁵ And the sons of Josiah were, the firstborn Johanan, the second Jehoiakim, the third Zedekiah, the fourth Shallum.

⁵ Jehoiakim was twenty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem: And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD his God. ⁶ Against him came up Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and bound him in fetters, to carry him to Babylon. ⁷ Nebuchadnezzar also carried of the vessels of the house of the LORD to Babylon, and put them in his temple at Babylon. ⁸ Now the rest of the acts of Jehoiakim, and his abominations which he did, and that which was found in him, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah: And Jehoiachin his son reigned in his stead.

¹¹ Zedekiah was one and twenty years old when he began to reign, and reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. ¹² And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD his God, and humbled not himself before Jeremiah the prophet speaking from the mouth of the LORD. ¹³ And he also rebelled against king Nebuchadnezzar, who had made him swear by God: But he stiffened his neck, and hardened his heart from turning to the LORD God of Israel. ¹⁴ Moreover all the chief of the priests, and the people, transgressed very much after all the abominations of the heathen; and polluted the house of the LORD which he had hallowed in Jerusalem. ¹⁵ And the LORD God of their fathers sent to them by his messengers, rising up betimes, and sending; because he had compassion on his people, and on his dwelling place: ¹⁶ But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till there was no remedy. ¹⁷ Therefore he brought on them the king of the Chaldeans, who slew their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary, and had no compassion on young man or maiden, old man, or him that stooped for age: He gave them all into his hand. ¹⁸ And all the vessels of the house of God, great and small, and the treasures of the house of the LORD, and the treasures of the king, and of his princes; all these he brought to Babylon. ¹⁹ And they burnt the house of God, and broke down the wall of Jerusalem, and burnt all its palaces with fire, and destroyed all the goodly vessels of it. ²⁰ And those that had escaped from the sword carried he away to Babylon; where they were servants to him and his sons until the reign of the kingdom of Persia: ²¹ To fulfill the word of the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah, until the land had enjoyed her Sabbaths: For as long as she lay desolate she kept Sabbath, to fulfill three score and ten years.

¹ The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD, when king Zedekiah sent to him Pashur the son of Melchiah, and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest, saying, ² "I implore you inquire of the LORD for us; for Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon makes war against us; it may be that the LORD will deal with us according to all His wondrous works, that the king may go up from us." ³ Then Jeremiah said to them, "Thus you shall say to Zedekiah: ⁴ 'Thus says the LORD God of Israel; "Behold, I will turn back the weapons of war that are in your hands, with which you fight against the king of Babylon, and against the Chaldeans, who besiege you outside the walls, and I will assemble them into the midst of this city. ⁵ And I Myself will fight against you with an outstretched hand and with a strong arm, even in anger, and in fury, and in great wrath. ⁶ And I will smite the inhabitants of this city, both man and beast: They shall die of a great pestilence. ⁷ And afterward", said the LORD, "I will deliver Zedekiah king of Judah, and his servants, and the people, and such as are left in this city from the pestilence, from the sword, and from the famine, into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those who seek their life: And he shall smite them with the edge of the sword; he shall not spare them, neither have pity, nor have mercy." ' ⁸ And to this people you shall say, 'Thus says the LORD; "Behold, I set before you the way of life, and the way of death. ⁹ He who stays in this city shall die by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence: But he who goes out, and falls to the Chaldeans that besiege you, he shall live, and his life shall be to him for a prey. ¹⁰ For I have set My face against this city for evil, and not for good", said the LORD: "it shall be given into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall burn it with fire." ' ¹¹ And touching the house of the king of Judah, say, 'Hear the word of the LORD; ¹² O house of David, thus says the LORD; "Execute judgment in the morning, and deliver him who is spoiled out of the hand of the oppressor, lest My fury go out like fire, and burn that none can quench it, because of the evil of your doings. ¹³ Behold, I am against you, O inhabitant of the valley, and rock of the plain", said the LORD; "which say, 'Who shall come down against us? Or who shall enter into our habitations?' ¹⁴ But I will punish you according to the fruit of your doings", said the LORD: "and I will kindle a fire in the forest of it, and it shall devour all things around it." ' "

¹ The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the people of Judah in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, that was the first year of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon; ² which Jeremiah the prophet spoke to all the people of Judah, and to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, ³ "From the thirteenth year of Josiah the son of Amon king of Judah, even to this day, that is the three and twentieth year, the word of the LORD has come to me, and I have spoken to you, rising early and speaking; but you have not listened.

¹ In the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah this word came from the LORD, saying, ² "Thus says the LORD; 'Stand in the court of the LORD's house, and speak to all the cities of Judah, which come to worship in the LORD's house, all the words that I command you to speak to them; diminish not a word: ³ It may be they will listen, and every man turn from his evil way, that I may relent of the evil which I purpose to do to them because of the evil of their doings.' ⁴ And you shall say to them, 'Thus says the LORD; "If you will not listen to Me, to walk in My law, which I have set before you, ⁵ to listen to the words of My servants the prophets, whom I sent to you, both rising up early, and sending them, but you have not listened; ⁶ then I will make this house like Shiloh, and will make this city a curse to all the nations of the earth." ' " ⁷ So the priests and the prophets and all the people heard Jeremiah speaking these words in the house of the LORD. ⁸ Now it came to pass, when Jeremiah had made an end of speaking all that the LORD had commanded him to speak to all the people, that the priests and the prophets and all the people took him, saying, "You shall surely die. ⁹ Why have you prophesied in the name of the LORD, saying, 'This house shall be like Shiloh, and this city shall be desolate without an inhabitant'?" And all the people were gathered against Jeremiah in the house of the LORD. ¹⁰ When the princes of Judah heard these things, then they came up from the king's house to the house of the LORD, and sat down in the entry of the new gate of the LORD's house. ¹¹ Then the priests and the prophets spoke to the princes and to all the people, saying, "This man is worthy to die; for he has prophesied against this city, as you have heard with your ears." ¹² Then Jeremiah spoke to all the princes and to all the people, saying, "The LORD sent me to prophesy against this house and against this city all the words that you have heard. ¹³ Therefore now amend your ways and your doings, and obey the voice of the LORD your God; and the LORD will relent of the evil that he has pronounced against you. ¹⁴ As for me, behold, I am in your hand: Do with me as seems good and proper to you. ¹⁵ But know for certain, that if you put me to death, you shall surely bring innocent blood on yourselves, and on this city, and on its inhabitants: For truly the LORD has sent me to you to speak all these words in your ears." ¹⁶ Then the princes and all the people said to the priests and to the prophets; "This man is not worthy to die: For he has spoken to us in the name of the LORD our God. ¹⁷ Then certain elders of the land rose up and spoke to all the assembly of the people, saying, ¹⁸ "Micah the Morasthite prophesied in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah, and spoke to all the people of Judah, saying, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts; "Zion shall be plowed like a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of a forest." ' ¹⁹ Did Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah put him to death? Did he not fear the LORD, and sought the LORD, and the LORD relented of the evil which he had pronounced against them? Thus might we procure great evil against our souls." ²⁰ And there was also a man that prophesied in the name of the LORD, Urijah the son of Shemaiah of Kirjathjearim, who prophesied against this city and against this land according to all the words of Jeremiah. ²¹ And when Jehoiakim the king, with all his mighty men, and all the princes, heard his words, the king sought to put him to death: But when Urijah heard it, he was afraid, and fled, and went into Egypt; ²² and Jehoiakim the king sent men into Egypt, namely, Elnathan the son of Achbor, and certain men with him into Egypt. ²³ And they fetched forth Urijah out of Egypt, and brought him to Jehoiakim the king; who slew him with the sword, and cast his dead body into the graves of the common people. ²⁴ Nevertheless the hand of Ahikam the son of Shaphan was with Jeremiah, that they should not give him into the hand of the people to put him to death.

¹ And it came to pass the same year, in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the fourth year, and in the fifth month, that Hananiah the son of Azur the prophet, who was of Gibeon, spoke to me in the house of the LORD, in the presence of the priests and of all the people, saying, ² "Thus speaks the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, saying, 'I have broken the yoke of the king of Babylon. ³ Within two full years I will bring into this place again all the vessels of the LORD's house, that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon took away from this place, and carried them to Babylon: ⁴ And I will bring again to this place Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim king of Judah, with all the captives of Judah, that went into Babylon', said the LORD: 'for I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon.' " ⁵ Then the prophet Jeremiah said to the prophet Hananiah in the presence of the priests, and in the presence of all the people who stood in the house of the LORD, ⁶ even the prophet Jeremiah said, "Amen: The LORD do so: The LORD perform your words which you have prophesied, to bring again the vessels of the LORD's house, and all that is carried away captive, from Babylon into this place. ⁷ Nevertheless hear now this word that I speak in your ears, and in the ears of all the people; ⁸ the prophets who have been before me and before you of old prophesied both against many countries, and against great kingdoms, of war, and of evil, and of pestilence. ⁹ The prophet who prophesies of peace, when the word of the prophet shall come to pass, then shall the prophet be known, that the LORD has truly sent him." ¹⁰ Then Hananiah the prophet took the yoke from off the prophet Jeremiah's neck, and broke it. ¹¹ And Hananiah spoke in the presence of all the people, saying, "Thus says the LORD; 'Even so I will break the yoke of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon from the neck of all nations within the space of two full years.' " And the prophet Jeremiah went his way. ¹² Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah the prophet, after that Hananiah the prophet had broken the yoke from off the neck of the prophet Jeremiah, saying, ¹³ "Go and tell Hananiah, saying, 'Thus says the LORD; "You have broken the yokes of wood; but you shall make for them yokes of iron." ¹⁴ For thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; "I have put a yoke of iron on the neck of all these nations, that they may serve Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon; and they shall serve him: And I have given him the wild beasts of the field also." ' " ¹⁵ Then the prophet Jeremiah said to Hananiah the prophet, "Hear now, Hananiah; The LORD has not sent you; but you make this people trust in a lie. ¹⁶ Therefore thus says the LORD; 'Behold, I will cast you from off the face of the earth: This year you shall die, because you have taught rebellion against the LORD.' " ¹⁷ So Hananiah the prophet died the same year in the seventh month.

¹ The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD, when Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and all his army, and all the kingdoms of the earth of his dominion, and all the people, fought against Jerusalem, and against all its cities, saying, ² "Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel; 'Go and speak to Zedekiah king of Judah, and tell him, "Thus says the LORD; 'Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall burn it with fire: ³ And you shall not escape out of his hand, but shall surely be taken, and delivered into his hand; and your eyes shall behold the eyes of the king of Babylon, and he shall speak with you mouth to mouth, and you shall go to Babylon.' " ' ⁴ Yet hear the word of the LORD, O Zedekiah king of Judah; Thus says the LORD of you, 'You shall not die by the sword: ⁵ But you shall die in peace: And with the burnings of your fathers, the former kings which were before you, so they shall burn odors for you; and they will lament you, saying, "Ah lord!" For I have pronounced the word', said the LORD." ⁶ Then Jeremiah the prophet spoke all these words to Zedekiah king of Judah in Jerusalem, ⁷ when the king of Babylon's army fought against Jerusalem, and against all the cities of Judah that were left, against Lachish, and against Azekah: For these defended cities remained of the cities of Judah. ⁸ This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, after that the king Zedekiah had made a covenant with all the people which were at Jerusalem, to proclaim liberty to them; ⁹ that every man should let his manservant, and every man his maidservant, being a Hebrew or a Hebrewess, go free; that none should serve himself of them, to wit, of a Jew his brother. ¹⁰ Now when all the princes, and all the people, who had entered into the covenant, heard that everyone should let his manservant, and everyone his maidservant, go free, that none should retain them in service anymore, then they obeyed, and let them go. ¹¹ But afterward they turned, and caused the servants and the handmaids, whom they had let go free, to return, and brought them into subjection for servants and for handmaids. ¹² Therefore the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying, ¹³ "Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel; 'I made a covenant with your fathers in the day that I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of servants, saying, ¹⁴ "At the end of seven years you shall let go every man his brother a Hebrew, which has been sold to you; and when he has served you six years, you shall let him go free from you": But your fathers did not listen to Me, neither inclined their ear. ¹⁵ And you were now turned, and had done right in My sight, in proclaiming liberty every man to his neighbor; and you had made a covenant before Me in the house which is called by My name: ¹⁶ But you turned and polluted My name, and caused every man his servant, and every man his handmaid, whom he had set at liberty at their pleasure, to return, and brought them into subjection, to be to you for servants and for handmaids.' ¹⁷ Therefore thus says the LORD; 'You have not listened to Me, in proclaiming liberty, everyone to his brother, and every man to his neighbor: Behold, I proclaim a liberty for you', said the LORD, 'to the sword, to the pestilence, and to the famine; and I will make you to be removed into all the kingdoms of the earth. ¹⁸ And I will give the men who have transgressed My covenant, which have not performed the words of the covenant which they made before Me, when they cut the calf in two, and passed between its parts, ¹⁹ the princes of Judah, and the princes of Jerusalem, the eunuchs, and the priests, and all the people of the land, who passed between the parts of the calf;

¹ The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, saying, ² "Go to the house of the Rechabites, and speak to them, and bring them into the house of the LORD, into one of the chambers, and give them wine to drink." ³ Then I took Jaazaniah the son of Jeremiah, the son of Habaziniah, and his brothers, and all his sons, and the whole house of the Rechabites; ⁴ and I brought them into the house of the LORD, into the chamber of the sons of Hanan, the son of Igdaliah, a man of God, which was by the chamber of the princes, which was above the chamber of Maaseiah the son of Shallum, the keeper of the door: ⁵ And I set before the sons of the house of the Rechabites pots full of wine, and cups, and I said to them, "Drink wine all of you." ⁶ But they said, "We will drink no wine: For Jonadab the son of Rechab our father commanded us, saying, 'You shall not drink wine, neither you, nor your sons forever: ⁷ Neither shall you build a house, nor sow seed, nor plant a vineyard, nor have any of these: But all your days you shall dwell in tents; that you may live many days in the land where you are strangers.' ⁸ Thus have we obeyed the voice of Jonadab the son of Rechab our father in all that he has charged us, to not drink wine all our days, we, our wives, our sons, nor our daughters; ⁹ nor to build houses for us to dwell in: Neither do we have a vineyard, nor field, nor seed: ¹⁰ But we have dwelled in tents, and have obeyed, and done according to all that Jonadab our father commanded us. ¹¹ But it came to pass, when Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon came up into the land, that we said, 'Come, and let us go to Jerusalem for fear of the army of the Chaldeans, and for fear of the army of the Syrians': So we dwell at Jerusalem." ¹² Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, saying, ¹³ "Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; 'Go and tell the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, "Will you not receive instruction to listen to My words?" said the LORD. ¹⁴ "The words of Jonadab the son of Rechab, that he commanded his sons not to drink wine, are performed; for to this day they drink none, but obey their father's commandment: Notwithstanding I have spoken to you, rising early and speaking; but you have not listened to Me. ¹⁵ I have also sent to you all My servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, 'Return now each man from his evil way, and amend your doings, and do not go after other gods to serve them, and you shall dwell in the land which I have given to you and to your fathers': But you have not inclined your ear, nor listened to Me. ¹⁶ Because the sons of Jonadab the son of Rechab have performed the commandment of their father, which he commanded them; but this people has not listened to Me: ¹⁷ Therefore thus says the LORD God of hosts, the God of Israel; 'Behold, I will bring on Judah and on all the inhabitants of Jerusalem all the evil that I have pronounced against them: Because I have spoken to them, but they have not heard; and I have called to them, but they have not answered.' " ¹⁸ And Jeremiah said to the house of the Rechabites, "Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; 'Because you have obeyed the commandment of Jonadab your father, and kept all his precepts, and done according to all that he has commanded you: ¹⁹ Therefore thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; "Jonadab the son of Rechab shall not want a man to stand before Me forever." ' "

¹ And king Zedekiah the son of Josiah reigned instead of Coniah the son of Jehoiakim, whom Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon made king in the land of Judah. ² But neither he, nor his servants, nor the people of the land, listened to the words of the LORD, which he spoke by the prophet Jeremiah. ³ And Zedekiah the king sent Jehucal the son of Shelemiah and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest to the prophet Jeremiah, saying, "Pray now to the LORD our God for us." ⁴ Now Jeremiah came in and went out among the people: For they had not put him into prison. ⁵ Then Pharaoh's army came forth out of Egypt: And when the Chaldeans who besieged Jerusalem heard tidings of them, they departed from Jerusalem. ⁶ Then the word of the LORD came to the prophet Jeremiah saying, ⁷ "Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel; '"Thus you shall say to the king of Judah, who sent you to Me to inquire of Me; "Behold, Pharaoh's army, which came forth to help you, shall return to Egypt into their own land. ⁸ And the Chaldeans shall come again, and fight against this city, and take it, and burn it with fire.' ⁹ Thus says the LORD; 'Do not deceive yourselves, saying, "The Chaldeans shall surely depart from us: For they shall not depart. ¹⁰ For though you had smitten the whole army of the Chaldeans who fight against you, and there remained but wounded men among them, yet they should rise up every man in his tent, and burn this city with fire. ¹¹ And it came to pass, that when the army of the Chaldeans was broken up from Jerusalem for fear of Pharaoh's army, ¹² then Jeremiah went forth out of Jerusalem to go into the land of Benjamin, to separate himself there in the midst of the people. ¹³ And when he was in the gate of Benjamin, a captain of the ward was there, whose name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah; and he took Jeremiah the prophet, saying, "You fall away to the Chaldeans." ¹⁴ Then Jeremiah said, "It is false; I do not fall away to the Chaldeans." But he did not listen to him: So Irijah took Jeremiah, and brought him to the princes. ¹⁵ Therefore the princes were wroth with Jeremiah, and smote him, and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe: For they had made that the prison. ¹⁶ When Jeremiah entered into the dungeon, and into the cabins, and Jeremiah had remained there many days; ¹⁷ then Zedekiah the king sent, and took him out: And the king asked him secretly in his house, and said, "Is there any word from the LORD?" And Jeremiah said, "There is": For He said, "You shall be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon." ¹⁸ Moreover Jeremiah said to king Zedekiah, "What have I offended against you, or against your servants, or against this people, that you have put me in prison? ¹⁹ Where now are your prophets who prophesied to you, saying, "The king of Babylon shall not come against you, nor against this land?" ²⁰ Therefore hear now, I implore you, O my lord the king: Let my supplication, I implore you, be accepted before you; that you do not cause me to return to the house of Jonathan the scribe, lest I die there. ²¹ Then Zedekiah the king commanded that they should commit Jeremiah into the court of the prison, and that they should give him daily a piece of bread out of the bakers' street, until all the bread in the city was spent. Thus Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison.

² And in the eleventh year of Zedekiah, in the fourth month, the ninth day of the month, the city was broken up.

¹ Zedekiah was one and twenty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Hamutal the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah. ² And he did that which was evil in the eyes of the LORD, according to all that Jehoiakim had done. ³ For through the anger of the LORD it came to pass in Jerusalem and Judah, until He had cast them out from His presence, that Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon. ⁴ And it came to pass in the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, on the tenth day of the month, that Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon came against Jerusalem, he and all his army, and pitched against it, and built forts against it on every side. ⁵ So the city was besieged to the eleventh year of king Zedekiah. ⁶ And in the fourth month, on the ninth day of the month, the famine was severe in the city, so that there was no bread for the people of the land. ⁷ Then the city was broken up, and all the men of war fled, and went forth out of the city by night by the way of the gate between the two walls, which was by the king's garden; (now the Chaldeans were by the city on all sides): And they went by the way of the plain. ⁸ But the army of the Chaldeans pursued after the king, and overtook Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho; and all his army was scattered from him. ⁹ Then they took the king, and carried him up to the king of Babylon to Riblah in the land of Hamath; where he gave judgment on him. ¹⁰ And the king of Babylon slew the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes: He also slew all the princes of Judah in Riblah. ¹¹ Then he put out the eyes of Zedekiah; and the king of Babylon bound him in chains, and carried him to Babylon, and put him in prison until the day of his death. ¹² Now in the fifth month, on the tenth day of the month, which was the nineteenth year of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, Nebuzaradan, captain of the guard, who served the king of Babylon, came into Jerusalem, ¹³ and burned the house of the LORD, and the king's house; and all the houses of Jerusalem, and all the houses of the great men, he burned with fire: ¹⁴ And all the army of the Chaldeans, who were with the captain of the guard, broke down all the walls of Jerusalem on every side. ¹⁵ Then Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard carried away captive certain of the poor of the people, and the residue of the people who remained in the city, and those who fell away, who fell to the king of Babylon, and the rest of the multitude. ¹⁶ But Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard left certain of the poor of the land for vinedressers and for farmers. ¹⁷ Also the pillars of brass that were in the house of the LORD, and the bases, and the brazen sea that was in the house of the LORD, the Chaldeans broke, and carried all the brass of them to Babylon. ¹⁸ The caldrons also, and the shovels, and the snuffers, and the bowls, and the spoons, and all the vessels of brass with which they ministered, they took away. ¹⁹ And the basins, and the fire-pans, and the bowls, and the caldrons, and the candlesticks, and the spoons, and the cups; that which was of gold in gold, and that which was of silver in silver, the captain of the guard took away. ²⁰ The two pillars, one sea, and twelve brazen bulls that were under the bases, which king Solomon had made in the house of the LORD: The brass of all these vessels was without weight. ²¹ And concerning the pillars, the height of one pillar was eighteen cubits; and a fillet of twelve cubits did compass it; and the thickness of it was four fingers: It was hollow. ²² And a capital of brass was on it; and the height of one capital was five cubits, with network and pomegranates on the capitals all around, all of brass. The second pillar also and the pomegranates were like these. ²³ And there were ninety-six pomegranates on a side; and all the pomegranates on the network were a hundred all around. ²⁴ And the captain of the guard took Seraiah the chief priest, and Zephaniah the second priest, and the three keepers of the door: ²⁵ He took also out of the city an eunuch, which had the charge of the men of war; and seven men of those that were near the king's person, which were found in the city; and the principal scribe of the host, who mustered the people of the land; and three score men of the people of the land, that were found in the midst of the city. ²⁶ So Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard took them, and brought them to the king of Babylon to Riblah. ²⁷ And the king of Babylon smote them, and put them to death in Riblah in the land of Hamath. Thus Judah was carried away captive out of his own land. ²⁸ This is the people whom Nebuchadrezzar carried away captive: In the seventh year three thousand and twenty-three Jews: ²⁹ In the eighteenth year of Nebuchadrezzar he carried away captive from Jerusalem eight hundred and thirty-two persons: ³⁰ In the three and twentieth year of Nebuchadrezzar Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard carried away captive of the Jews seven hundred and forty-five persons: All the persons were four thousand six hundred. ³¹ And it came to pass in the thirty-seventh year of the captivity of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the twelfth month, on the twenty-fifth day of the month, that Evilmerodach king of Babylon in the first year of his reign lifted up the head of Jehoiachin king of Judah, and brought him forth out of prison. ³² And spoke kindly to him, and set his throne above the throne of the kings who were with him in Babylon, ³³ and changed his prison garments: And he continually ate bread before him all the days of his life. ³⁴ And for his diet, there was a continual diet given him by the king of Babylon, every day a portion until the day of his death, all the days of his life.

⁵ "Speak to all the people of the land, and to the priests, saying, 'When you all fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh month, even those seventy years, did you all really fast to Me at all, even to Me?

¹⁹ "Thus says the LORD of hosts; 'The fast of the fourth month, and the fast of the fifth, and the fast of the seventh, and the fast of the tenth, shall be joy and gladness to the house of Judah, and cheerful feasts; therefore love the truth and peace.'

² To whom the word of the LORD came in the days of Josiah the son of Amon king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign.

¹⁶ And it came to pass at the end of seven days, that the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

¹² And Moses said to the LORD, "See, You say to me, 'Bring up this people': And You have not let me know whom You will send with me. Yet You have said, 'I know you by name, and you have also found grace in My sight.'

¹⁷ And the LORD said to Moses, "I will also do this thing that you have spoken: For you have found grace in My sight, and I know you by name."

⁵ For You are my hope, O Lord GOD: You are my trust from my youth. ⁶ I have been held up by You from the womb: You are He that took me out of my mother's bowels: My praise shall be continually of You.

¹⁶ Your eyes saw my substance, yet being imperfect; and in Your book all my members were written, which were fashioned in continuance, when as yet there were none of them.

² Thus says the LORD that made you, and formed you from the womb, who will help you; Fear not, O Jacob, My servant; and you, Jesurun, whom I have chosen.

¹ "Listen to Me, O isles; and listen, all you people from afar; The LORD has called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother He has made mention of my name.

⁵ "And now", says the LORD that formed me from the womb to be His servant, to bring Jacob again to Him, Though Israel is not gathered, yet I shall be glorious in the eyes of the LORD, and my God shall be my strength.

¹⁰ See, I have this day set you over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant."

¹⁵ For thus says the LORD God of Israel to me; "Take the wine cup of this fury at My hand, and cause all the nations, to whom I send you, to drink it. ¹⁶ And they shall drink, and be moved, and be mad, because of the sword that I will send among them." ¹⁷ Then I took the cup at the LORD's hand, and made all the nations to drink, to whom the LORD had sent me: ¹⁸ To wit, Jerusalem, and the cities of Judah, and her kings, and her princes, to make them a desolation, an astonishment, a hissing, and a curse; as it is this day; ¹⁹ pharaoh king of Egypt, and his servants, and his princes, and all his people; ²⁰ and all the mingled people, and all the kings of the land of Uz, and all the kings of the land of the Philistines, and Ashkelon, and Azzah, and Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod, ²¹ edom, and Moab, and the children of Ammon, ²² and all the kings of Tyrus, and all the kings of Zidon, and the kings of the isles which are beyond the sea, ²³ dedan, and Tema, and Buz, and all that are in the utmost corners, ²⁴ and all the kings of Arabia, and all the kings of the mingled people that dwell in the desert, ²⁵ and all the kings of Zimri, and all the kings of Elam, and all the kings of the Medes, ²⁶ and all the kings of the north, far and near, one with another, and all the kingdoms of the world, which are on the face of the earth: And the king of Sheshach shall drink after them.

³⁴ Their Redeemer is strong; the LORD of hosts is His name: He shall thoroughly plead their cause, that He may give rest to the land, and disquiet the inhabitants of Babylon.

¹⁵ For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother's womb.

⁴¹ And it came to pass, that when Elisabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit:

⁷⁶ And you, child, shall be called the prophet of the Highest: For you shall go before the face of the Lord to prepare His ways;

¹ Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated to the gospel of God,

²⁹ For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.

¹⁵ But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother's womb, and called me by His grace, ¹⁶ to reveal His Son in me, that I might preach Him among the heathen; I did not immediately confer with flesh and blood:

²² And has put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be the head over all things to the church,

¹¹ And He gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers; ¹² for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

¹⁹ Nevertheless the foundation of God stands sure, having this seal: "The Lord knows those that are His." And, "Let everyone that names the name of Christ depart from iniquity." ²⁰ But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honor, and some to dishonor. ²¹ Therefore if a man purges himself from these, he shall be a vessel to honor, sanctified, and fit for the Master's use, and prepared for every good work.

¹ And Moses answered and said, "But, behold, they will not believe me, nor hearken to my voice: For they will say, 'The LORD has not appeared to you.' "

¹⁰ And Moses said to the LORD, "O my LORD, I am not eloquent, neither before, nor since You have spoken to Your servant: But I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue." ¹¹ And the LORD said to him, "Who has made man's mouth? Or who makes the mute, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? Have not I the LORD? ¹² Now therefore go, and I will be with your mouth, and teach you what you shall say." ¹³ And he said, "O my LORD, send, I implore You, by the hand of him whom You will send." ¹⁴ And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Moses, and He said, "Is not Aaron the Levite your brother? I know that he can speak well. And also, behold, he comes forth to meet you: And when he sees you, he will be glad in his heart. ¹⁵ And you shall speak to him, and put words in his mouth: And I will be with your mouth, and with his mouth, and will teach you what you shall do. ¹⁶ And he shall be your spokesman to the people: And he shall be, even he shall be to you instead of a mouth, and you shall be to him instead of God.

¹² And Moses spoke before the LORD, saying, "Behold, the children of Israel have not hearkened to me; how then shall Pharaoh hear me, who am of uncircumcised lips?"

³⁰ And Moses said before the LORD, "Behold, I am of uncircumcised lips, and how shall Pharaoh hearken to me?"

⁷ And now, O LORD my God, you have made your servant king instead of David my father: And I am but a little child: I do not know how to go out or come in. ⁸ And your servant is in the midst of your people which you have chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude. ⁹ Give therefore your servant an understanding heart to judge your people, that I may discern between good and bad: For who is able to judge this your so great a people?

⁵ Then I said, "Woe is me! For I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: For my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts."

¹⁰ Then I said, "Ah, Lord GOD! Surely you have greatly deceived this people and Jerusalem, saying, 'You shall have peace'; whereas the sword reaches to the heart."

¹³ Then I said, "Ah, Lord GOD! Behold, the prophets say to them, 'You shall not see the sword, neither shall you have famine; but I will give you assured peace in this place.' "

¹⁷ 'Ah Lord GOD! Behold, You have made the heaven and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm, and there is nothing too hard for you:

¹ And the LORD said to Moses, "See, I have made you a god to Pharaoh: And your brother Aaron shall be your prophet. ² You shall speak all that I command you: And Aaron your brother shall speak to Pharaoh, that he send the children of Israel out of his land.

²⁰ And God came to Balaam at night, and said to him, "If the men come to call you, rise up, and go with them; but yet the word which I shall, That shall you do.

³⁸ And Balaam said to Balak, "See, I am come to you: Have I now any power at all to say anything? The word that God puts in my mouth, that shall I speak.

¹⁴ And Micaiah said, "As the LORD lives, what the LORD said to me, that will I speak.

¹³ And Micaiah said, "As the LORD lives, even what my God said, "that will I speak.

¹⁷ You therefore gird up your loins, and arise, and speak to them all whom I command you: Be not dismayed at their faces, lest I confound you before them. ¹⁸ For, behold, I have made you this day a defended city, and an iron pillar, and brazen walls against the whole land, against the kings of Judah, against its princes, against its priests, and against the people of the land.

³ And He said to me, "Son of man, I send you to the children of Israel, to a rebellious nation that has rebelled against Me: They and their fathers have transgressed against Me, even to this very day. ⁴ For they are impudent children and stiff hearted. I do send you to them; and you shall say to them, 'Thus says the Lord GOD.' ⁵ And they, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear, (for they are a rebellious house), Yet they shall know that there has been a prophet among them.

¹⁷ "Son of man, I have made you a watchman to the house of Israel: Therefore hear the word of My mouth, and give them warning from Me. ¹⁸ When I say to the wicked, 'You shall surely die'; and you do not give him warning, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at your hand. ¹⁹ Yet if you warn the wicked, and he does not turn from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but you have delivered your soul. ²⁰ Again, When a righteous man does turn from his righteousness, and commit iniquity, and I lay a stumbling-block before him, he shall die: Because you have not given him warning, he shall die in his sin, and his righteousness which he has done shall not be remembered; but his blood I will require at your hand. ²¹ Nevertheless if you warn the righteous man, that the righteous do not sin, and he does not sin, he shall surely live, because he is warned; also you have delivered your soul."

²⁷ But when I speak with you, I will open your mouth, and you shall say to them, 'Thus says the Lord GOD'; He who hears, let him hear; and he that declines, let him forbear: For they are a rebellious house."

²⁰ Teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you: And lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the world." Amen.

¹⁵ And He said to them, "Go into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. ¹⁶ He who believes and is baptized shall be saved; but he who does not believe shall be damned.

²⁷ For I have not shunned to declare to you all the counsel of God.

¹² And He said, "Certainly I will be with you; and this shall be a token sign to you, that I have sent you: When you have brought forth the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God upon this mountain."

⁶ Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: For the LORD your God, he it is that does go with you; he will not fail you, nor forsake you.

⁸ And the LORD, he it is that does go before you; he will be with you, he will not fail you, neither forsake you: Fear not, neither be dismayed.

⁵ There shall not any man be able to stand before you all the days of your life: As I was with Moses, so I will be with you: I will not fail you, nor forsake you.

⁹ Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be you dismayed: For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.

² When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you: When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle on you.

⁷ Listen to Me, you who know righteousness, the people in whose heart is My law; fear not the reproach of men, neither be afraid of their revilings.

¹² I, even I, am He who comforts you: Who are you, that you should be afraid of a man who shall die, and of the son of man who shall be made like grass;

¹⁷ You therefore gird up your loins, and arise, and speak to them all whom I command you: Be not dismayed at their faces, lest I confound you before them.

²⁰ And I will make you a fenced brazen wall to this people: And they shall fight against you, but they shall not prevail against you: For I am with you to save you and to deliver you", said the LORD. ²¹ "And I will deliver you out of the hand of the wicked, and I will redeem you out of the hand of the terrible."

¹¹ But the LORD is with me as a mighty terrible one: Therefore my persecutors shall stumble, and they shall not prevail: They shall be greatly ashamed; for they shall not prosper: Their everlasting confusion shall never be forgotten.

⁶ And you, son of man, do not be afraid of them, neither be afraid of their words, though briers and thorns are with you, and you dwell among scorpions: Do not be afraid of their words, nor be dismayed at their looks, though they are a rebellious house. ⁷ And you shall speak My words to them, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear: For they are most rebellious.

⁸ Behold, I have made your face strong against their faces, and your forehead strong against their foreheads. ⁹ I have made your forehead like an adamant harder than flint: Do not fear them, neither be dismayed at their looks, though they are a rebellious house."

²⁶ Therefore do not fear them: For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known.

⁴ And I say to you My friends, do not be afraid of those that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. ⁵ But I will forewarn you whom you shall fear: Fear Him, which after He has killed has power to cast into hell; yes, I say to you, Fear Him.

¹³ Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marveled; and they had knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.

²⁹ And now Lord, behold their threats: And grant to Your servants, that with all boldness they may speak Your word,

⁹ "And the patriarchs, moved with envy, sold Joseph into Egypt: But God was with him, ¹⁰ and delivered him out of all his afflictions, and gave him favor and wisdom in the sight of Pharaoh king of Egypt; and he made him governor over Egypt and all his house.

¹⁰ For I am with you, and no man shall lay hold on you to hurt you: For I have many people in this city."

¹⁷ delivering you from the people, and from the Gentiles, to whom I now send you,

⁸ For we do not intend, brethren, to have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed beyond measure, above strength, so that we despaired even of life: ⁹ But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raises the dead: ¹⁰ Who delivered us from so great a death, and does deliver: In whom we trust that He will yet deliver us;

²⁰ for which I am an ambassador in chains: That I may speak the gospel boldly, as I ought to speak.

¹⁷ But the Lord stood with me, and strengthened me; that the preaching by me might be fully known, and that all the Gentiles might hear: And I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion. ¹⁸ And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me for His heavenly kingdom: To whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.

⁵ Let your behavior be without covetousness; and be content with such things as you have: For He has said, "I will never leave you, nor forsake you." ⁶ So that we may boldly say, "The LORD is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do to me."

¹¹ And the LORD said to him, "Who has made man's mouth? Or who makes the mute, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? Have not I the LORD? ¹² Now therefore go, and I will be with your mouth, and teach you what you shall say."

⁶ Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar: ⁷ And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, "See, this has touched your lips; and your iniquity is taken away, and your sin purged."

² And He has made my mouth like a sharp sword; in the shadow of His hand He has hid me, and made me a polished shaft; in His quiver He has hid me;

⁴ The Lord GOD has given Me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him who is weary: He wakens morning by morning, He wakens my ear to hear as the learned.

¹⁶ And I have put My words in your mouth, and I have covered you in the shadow of My hand, that I may plant heaven, and lay the foundations of the earth, and say to Zion, You are My people.

¹⁴ Therefore thus says the LORD God of hosts, "Because you speak this word, behold, I will make My words in your mouth fire, and this people wood, and it shall devour them.

¹⁰ Moreover He said to me, "Son of man, receive in your heart all My words that I shall speak to you, and hear with your ears.

¹⁹ But when they deliver you up, take no thought on how or what you shall speak: For it shall be given to you in that same hour what you shall speak.

¹² For the Holy Spirit shall teach you in the same hour what you ought to say."

¹⁵ For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to speak against nor resist.

¹ And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said to Ahab, "As the LORD God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.

¹⁷ And it shall come to pass, that him that escapes the sword of Hazael shall Jehu slay: And him that escapes from the sword of Jehu shall Elisha slay.

²⁶ that confirms the word of His servant, and performs the counsel of His messengers; that said to Jerusalem, "You shall be inhabited"; and to the cities of Judah, "You shall be built", and I will raise up the decayed places of it: ²⁷ Who said to the deep, "Be dry, and I will dry up your rivers": ²⁸ Who said of Cyrus, "He is my shepherd, and shall perform all my pleasure": Even saying to Jerusalem, "You shall be built"; and to the temple, "Your foundation shall be laid."

⁷ At what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, and to pull down, and to destroy it; ⁸ if that nation, against whom I have pronounced, turn from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do to them. ⁹ And at what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it; ¹⁰ if it does evil in My sight, that it does not obey My voice, then I will repent of the good, with which I said I would benefit them.

⁶ For I will set my eyes upon them for good, and I will bring them to this land again: And I will build them, and not pull them down; and I will plant them, and not pluck them up.

¹⁵ For thus says the LORD God of Israel to me; "Take the wine cup of this fury at My hand, and cause all the nations, to whom I send you, to drink it. ¹⁶ And they shall drink, and be moved, and be mad, because of the sword that I will send among them." ¹⁷ Then I took the cup at the LORD's hand, and made all the nations to drink, to whom the LORD had sent me: ¹⁸ To wit, Jerusalem, and the cities of Judah, and her kings, and her princes, to make them a desolation, an astonishment, a hissing, and a curse; as it is this day; ¹⁹ pharaoh king of Egypt, and his servants, and his princes, and all his people; ²⁰ and all the mingled people, and all the kings of the land of Uz, and all the kings of the land of the Philistines, and Ashkelon, and Azzah, and Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod, ²¹ edom, and Moab, and the children of Ammon, ²² and all the kings of Tyrus, and all the kings of Zidon, and the kings of the isles which are beyond the sea, ²³ dedan, and Tema, and Buz, and all that are in the utmost corners, ²⁴ and all the kings of Arabia, and all the kings of the mingled people that dwell in the desert, ²⁵ and all the kings of Zimri, and all the kings of Elam, and all the kings of the Medes, ²⁶ and all the kings of the north, far and near, one with another, and all the kingdoms of the world, which are on the face of the earth: And the king of Sheshach shall drink after them. ²⁷ "Therefore you shall say to them, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; "Drink all of you, and be drunken, and spew, and fall, and rise no more, because of the sword which I will send among you." '

² "Thus says the LORD to me; 'Make bonds and yokes for yourself, and put them on your neck, ³ and send them to the king of Edom, and to the king of Moab, and to the king of the Ammonites, and to the king of Tyrus, and to the king of Zidon, by the hand of the messengers who come to Jerusalem to Zedekiah king of Judah; ⁴ and command them to say to their masters, "Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Thus you shall say to your masters; ⁵ 'I have made the earth, the man and the beast that are upon the ground, by My great power and by My outstretched arm, and have given it to whom it seemed proper to Me. ⁶ And now I have given all these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, My servant; and I have also given him the wild beasts of the field to serve him. ⁷ And all nations shall serve him, and his son, and his son's son, until the very time of his land comes: And then many nations and great kings shall enservant him.

⁴ Again I will build you, and you shall be built, O virgin of Israel: You shall be adorned with your tabrets again, and shall go forth in the dances of those who make merry. ⁵ You shall yet plant vines upon the mountains of Samaria: The planters shall plant, and shall eat them as common things.

²⁸ And it shall come to pass, that as I have watched over them, to pluck up, and to break down, and to throw down, and to destroy, and to afflict; so I will watch over them, to build, and to plant", said the LORD."

¹ The word of the LORD which came to Jeremiah the prophet against the Gentiles; ² against Egypt, against the army of Pharaohnecho king of Egypt, which was by the river Euphrates in Carchemish, which Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon smote in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah. ³ "Order the buckler and shield, and draw near to battle. ⁴ Harness the horses; and get up you horsemen, and stand forth with your helmets; furbish the spears, and put on the body armor. ⁵ Why have I seen them dismayed and turned back away? And their mighty ones are beaten down, and have fled quickly, and do not look back: For fear was all around", said the LORD. ⁶ "Do not let the swift flee away, nor the mighty man escape; they shall stumble, and fall toward the north by the river Euphrates. ⁷ Who is this who comes up as a flood, whose waters are moved as the rivers? ⁸ Egypt rises up like a flood, and his waters are moved like the rivers; and he said, 'I will go up, and will cover the earth; I will destroy the city and its inhabitants.' ⁹ Come up, you horses; and rage, you chariots; and let the mighty men come forth; the Ethiopians and the Libyans, who handle the shield; and the Lydians, who handle and bend the bow. ¹⁰ For this is the day of the Lord GOD of hosts, a day of vengeance, that He may avenge Him of his adversaries: And the sword shall devour, and it shall be satiate and made drunk with their blood: For the Lord GOD of hosts has a sacrifice in the north country by the river Euphrates. ¹¹ Go up into Gilead, and take balm, O virgin, the daughter of Egypt: In vain you shall use many medicines; for you shall not be cured. ¹² The nations have heard of your shame, and your cry has filled the land: For the mighty man has stumbled against the mighty, and they have both fallen together." ¹³ The word that the LORD spoke to Jeremiah the prophet, how Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon should come and smite the land of Egypt. ¹⁴ "Declare in Egypt, and publish in Migdol, and publish in Noph and in Tahpanhes: Say you, 'Stand fast, and prepare yourselves; for the sword shall devour all around you.' ¹⁵ Why are your valiant men swept away? They did not stand because the LORD drove them away. ¹⁶ He made many fall, yes, one fell on another: And they said, 'Arise, and let us go again to our own people, and to the land of our nativity, from the oppressing sword.' ¹⁷ They cried there, 'Pharaoh king of Egypt is but a noise; he has passed the appointed time.' ¹⁸ "As I live", said the King, whose name is the LORD of hosts, "Surely as Tabor is among the mountains, and as Carmel by the sea, so shall he come. ¹⁹ O you daughter dwelling in Egypt, furnish yourself to go into captivity: For Noph shall be waste and desolate without an inhabitant. ²⁰ Egypt is like a very fair heifer, but destruction comes; it comes out of the north. ²¹ Also her hired men are in the midst of her like fattened bulls; for they are also turned back, and have fled away together: They did not stand, because the day of their calamity had come on them, and the time of their visitation. ²² The sound of it is like a serpent as it goes; for they shall march with an army, and come against her with axes, as hewers of wood. ²³ They shall cut down her forest', said the LORD, 'though it cannot be searched; because they are more than the grasshoppers, and are innumerable.' ²⁴ The daughter of Egypt shall be confounded; she shall be delivered into the hand of the people of the north. ²⁵ The LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, said; "Behold, I will punish the multitude of No, and Pharaoh, and Egypt, with their gods, and their kings; even Pharaoh, and all those who trust in him: ²⁶ And I will deliver them into the hand of those who seek their lives, and into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of his servants: And afterward it shall be inhabited, as in the days of old", said the LORD. ²⁷ "But do not fear, O My servant Jacob, and do not be dismayed, O Israel: For, behold, I will save you from afar off, and your seed from the land of their captivity; and Jacob shall return, and be in rest and at ease, and none shall make him afraid. ²⁸ Do not fear, O Jacob My servant", said the LORD: "for I am with you; for I will make a full end of all the nations where I have driven you: But I will not make a full end of you, but correct you in measure; yet I will not leave you wholly unpunished."

¹⁸ "Son of man, wail for the multitude of Egypt, and cast them down, even her, and the daughters of the famous nations, to the lower parts of the earth, with those who go down into the pit.

³⁶ Then the heathen who are left all around you shall know that I the LORD build the ruined places, and plant that which was desolate: I the LORD have spoken it, and I will do it."

³ And it was according to the appearance of the vision which I saw, even according to the vision that I saw when I came to destroy the city: And the visions were like the vision that I saw by the river Chebar; and I fell upon my face.

⁷ Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets.

¹¹ In that day I will raise up the tabernacle of David that has fallen, and close up its breaches; and I will raise up his ruins, and I will build it as in the days of old:

⁶ But My words and My statutes, which I commanded My servants the prophets, did they not take hold of your fathers? And they returned and said, 'As the LORD of hosts thought to do to us, according to our ways, and according to our doings, in this manner He has dealt with us.' "

⁴ (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God for the pulling down of strongholds); ⁵ casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ;

³ And I will give power to my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy one thousand two hundred and sixty days, clothed in sackcloth." ⁴ These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth. ⁵ And if any man will hurt them, fire proceeds out of their mouth, and devours their enemies: And if any man will hurt them, he must be killed in this manner. ⁶ These have power to shut heaven, that it does not rain in the days of their prophecy: And have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will.

¹⁹ And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against Him that sat on the horse, and against His army. ²⁰ And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that worked miracles before him, with which he deceived those that had received the mark of the beast, and those that worshiped his image. These two were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone. ²¹ And the remnant were slain with the sword of Him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: And all the fowls were filled with their flesh.

⁸ And it came to pass, that on the next day Moses went into the tabernacle of witness; and behold, the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi was budded, and brought forth buds, and bloomed blossoms, and yielded almonds.

³ Then the LORD said to me, "What do you see, Jeremiah?" And I said, "Figs; the good figs, very good; and the evil, very evil, that cannot be eaten, they are so evil."

¹⁰ Behold the day, behold, it has come: The morning has gone forth; the rod has blossomed, pride has budded.

⁸ And the LORD said to me, "Amos, what do you see?" And I said, "A plumb-line." Then the Lord said, "Behold, I will set a plumb-line in the midst of My people Israel: I will not again pass by them any more:

² And he said, "Amos, what do you see?" And I said, "A basket of summer fruit." Then the LORD said to me, "The end has come upon My people of Israel; I will not again pass by them any more.

² And said to me, "What do you see?" And I said, "I have looked, and behold a candlestick of all gold, with a bowl upon the top of it, and its seven lamps, and seven pipes to the seven lamps, which are upon the top of it:

² And he said to me, "What do you see?" And I answered, "I see a flying roll; its length is twenty cubits, and its width ten cubits."Using Hebrew cubits (of the scriptures), this L x W equates to approximately 36.5' x 18.2', respectively; or 11.12m x 5.56m; per Noah Webster's 1828 Dictionary and Easton's Illustrated Bible Dictionary, Appendix VI.

²⁸ And the LORD heard the voice of your words, when you spoke to me; and the LORD said to me, I have heard the voice of the words of this people, which they have spoken to you: They have well said all that they have spoken.

¹⁷ And the LORD said to me, They have well spoken that which they have spoken.

³⁵ To me belongs vengeance and recompense; their foot shall slide in due time: For the day of their calamity is at hand, and the things that shall come upon them make haste.

¹ In the ninth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the tenth month, Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon and all his army came against Jerusalem, and they besieged it. ² And in the eleventh year of Zedekiah, in the fourth month, the ninth day of the month, the city was broken up. ³ And all the princes of the king of Babylon came in, and sat in the middle gate, even Nergalsharezer, Samgarnebo, Sarsechim, Rabsaris, Nergalsharezer, Rabmag, with all the residue of the princes of the king of Babylon. ⁴ And it came to pass, that when Zedekiah the king of Judah saw them, and all the men of war, then they fled, and went forth out of the city by night, by the way of the king's garden, by the gate between the two walls: And he went out the way of the plain. ⁵ But the Chaldeans' army pursued after them, and overtook Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho: And when they had taken him, they brought him up to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon to Riblah in the land of Hamath, where he gave judgment on him. ⁶ Then the king of Babylon slew the sons of Zedekiah in Riblah before his eyes: Also the king of Babylon slew all the nobles of Judah. ⁷ Moreover he put out Zedekiah's eyes, and bound him with chains, to carry him to Babylon. ⁸ And the Chaldeans burned the king's house, and the houses of the people, with fire, and broke down the walls of Jerusalem. ⁹ Then Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard carried away captive into Babylon the remnant of the people who remained in the city, and those who fell away, who fell to him, with the rest of the people who remained. ¹⁰ But Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard left the poor of the people, which had nothing, in the land of Judah, and gave them vineyards and fields at the same time. ¹¹ Now Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon gave charge concerning Jeremiah to Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard, saying, ¹² "Take him, and look well to him, and do him no harm; but do to him even as he shall say to you." ¹³ So Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard sent, and Nebushasban, Rabsaris, and Nergalsharezer, Rabmag, and all the king of Babylon's princes; ¹⁴ they even sent, and took Jeremiah out of the court of the prison, and committed him to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan, that he should carry him home: So he dwelled among the people. ¹⁵ Now the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, while he was shut up in the court of the prison, saying, ¹⁶ "Go and speak to Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, saying, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; "Behold, I will bring My words on this city for evil, and not for good; and they shall be accomplished in that day before you. ¹⁷ But I will deliver you in that day", said the LORD: "and you shall not be given into the hand of the men of whom you are afraid. ¹⁸ For I will surely deliver you, and you shall not fall by the sword, but your life shall be for a prey to you: Because you have put your trust in Me", said the LORD.' "

²² "Son of man, what is that proverb that you have in the land of Israel, saying, 'The days are prolonged, and every vision fails?' ²³ Tell them therefore, 'Thus says the Lord GOD; "I will make this proverb to cease, and they shall no longer use it as a proverb in Israel"; but say to them, "The days are at hand, and the effect of every vision.

²⁵ For I am the LORD: I will speak, and the word that I shall speak shall come to pass; it shall not be prolonged any longer: For in your days, O rebellious house, I will say the word, and will perform it", said the Lord GOD.

²⁸ Therefore say to them, "Thus says the Lord GOD; 'My words shall not be prolonged any longer, but the word which I have spoken shall be done", said the Lord GOD.' "

²⁸ And He said to him, "You have answered right: Do this, and you shall live."

³⁹ Then certain ones of the scribes answering said, "Master, You have spoken well."

³² And regarding that the dream was repeated to Pharaoh twice; it is because the thing is established by God, and God will shortly bring it to pass.

³ Who say, 'It is not near; let us build houses: This city is the caldron, and we are the flesh.'

⁷ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; "Your slain whom you have laid in the midst of it, they are the flesh, and this city is the caldron: But I will bring you forth out of the midst of it.

³ And utter a parable to the rebellious house, and say to them, 'Thus says the Lord GOD; "Set on a pot, set it on, and also pour water into it: ⁴ Gather its pieces into it, even every good piece, the thigh, and the shoulder; fill it with the choice bones. ⁵ Take the choice of the flock, and also burn the bones under it, and make it boil well, and let them boil its bones in it." ⁶ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; "Woe to the bloody city, to the pot whose scum is in it, and whose scum has not gone out of it! Bring it out piece by piece; let no lot fall upon it. ⁷ For her blood is in the midst of her; she set it on the top of a rock; she did not pour it upon the ground, to cover it with dust; ⁸ that it might cause fury to come up to take vengeance; I have set her blood on the top of a rock, that it should not be covered." ⁹ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; "Woe to the bloody city! I will even make the pile for fire great. ¹⁰ Heap on wood, kindle the fire, consume the flesh, and spice it well, and let the bones be burned. ¹¹ Then set it empty on its coals, that the brass of it may be hot, and may burn, and that the filthiness of it may be molten in it, that the scum of it may be consumed. ¹² She has wearied herself with lies, and her great scum has not gone forth out of her: Her scum shall be in the fire. ¹³ In your filthiness is lewdness: Because I have purged you, and you were not purged, you shall not be purged from your filthiness any more, until I have caused My fury to rest on you. ¹⁴ I the LORD have spoken it: It shall come to pass, and I will do it; I will not go back, neither will I spare, neither will I repent; according to your ways, and according to your doings, they shall judge you", said the Lord GOD.

¹ This is the third time I am coming to you. "By the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established." ² I have told you before, and foretell you, as if I were present, the second time; and being absent now I write to those which have already sinned, and to all others, that if I come again, I will not spare:

²⁵ I have raised one up from the north, and he shall come: From the rising of the sun shall he call on My name: And he shall come on princes as on mortar, and as the potter treads clay.

⁶ Set up the standard toward Zion: Retire, do not stay: For I will bring evil from the north, and a great destruction."

¹ O you children of Benjamin, gather yourselves to flee out of the midst of Jerusalem, and blow the trumpet in Tekoa, and set up a sign of fire in Bethhaccerem: For evil appears out of the north, and great destruction.

²² Thus says the LORD, "Behold, a people comes from the north country, and a great nation shall be raised from the sides of the earth.

²² Behold, the noise of the bruit has come, and a great commotion out of the north country, to make the cities of Judah desolate, and a den of dragons.

⁸ Behold, I will bring them from the north country, and gather them from the borders of the earth, and with them the blind and the lame, the woman with child and her who labors with child together: A great company shall return there.

²⁰ Egypt is like a very fair heifer, but destruction comes; it comes out of the north.

⁹ For lo, I will raise and cause to come up against Babylon an assembly of great nations from the north country: And they shall set themselves in array against her; from there she shall be taken: Their arrows shall be as of a mighty expert man; none shall return in vain.

⁴¹ Behold, a people shall come from the north, and a great nation, and many kings shall be raised up from the borders of the earth.

⁴ And I looked, and behold, a whirlwind came out of the north, a great cloud, and a fire enfolding itself, and a brightness was about it, and out of the middle of it emanated the color amber, out of the middle of the fire.

⁴⁹ The LORD shall bring a nation against you from far, from the end of the earth, as swift as the eagle flies; a nation whose tongue you shall not understand; ⁵⁰ A nation of fierce countenance, which shall not regard the person of the old, nor show favor to the young: ⁵¹ And he shall eat the fruit of your domestic beasts, and the fruit of your land, until you be destroyed: Which also shall not leave you either grain, wine, or oil, or the increase of your cows, or flocks of your sheep, until he have destroyed you. ⁵² And he shall besiege you in all your gates, until your high and fenced walls come down, in which you trusted, throughout all your land: And he shall besiege you in all your gates throughout all your land, which the LORD your God has given you. ⁵³ And you shall eat the fruit of your own body, the flesh of your sons and of your daughters, which the LORD your God has given you, in the siege, and in the narrow place, with which your enemies shall distress you:

⁷ And it shall come to pass, that your choicest valleys shall be full of chariots, and the horsemen shall set themselves in array at the gate.

¹⁶ "Make mention to the nations; behold, publish against Jerusalem, that watchers come from a far country, and give out their voice against the cities of Judah.

¹⁵ See, I will bring a nation from afar upon you, O house of Israel", said the LORD: "it is a mighty nation, it is an ancient nation, a nation whose language you do not know, neither can you understand what they say.

¹¹ And I will make Jerusalem heaps, and a den of dragons; and I will make the cities of Judah desolate, without an inhabitant."

²⁵ Pour out Your fury on the heathen who do not know you, and on the families that do not call on Your name: For they have eaten up Jacob, and devoured him, and consumed him, and have made his habitation desolate.

⁹ behold, I will send and take all the families of the north', said the LORD, 'and Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, My servant, and will bring them against this land, and against its inhabitants, and against all these nations all around, and will utterly destroy them, and make them an astonishment, and a hissing, and perpetual desolations.

²⁸ And it shall be, if they refuse to take the cup at your hand to drink, then you shall say to them, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts; "You shall certainly drink.

³¹ A noise shall come even to the ends of the earth; for the LORD has a controversy with the nations, He will plead with all flesh; He will give those who are wicked to the sword', said the LORD." ³² Thus says the LORD of hosts, "Behold, evil shall go forth from nation to nation, and a great whirlwind shall be raised up from the borders of the earth.

¹⁰ Thus says the LORD; 'Again there shall be heard in this place, which you say shall be desolate without man and without beast, even in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, that are desolate, without man, and without inhabitant, and without beast,

²² 'Behold, I will command', said the LORD, 'and cause them to return to this city; and they shall fight against it, and take it, and burn it with fire: And I will make the cities of Judah a desolation without an inhabitant.' "

³ And all the princes of the king of Babylon came in, and sat in the middle gate, even Nergalsharezer, Samgarnebo, Sarsechim, Rabsaris, Nergalsharezer, Rabmag, with all the residue of the princes of the king of Babylon.

¹⁰ and say to them, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; "Behold, I will send and take Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, My servant, and will set his throne on these stones that I have hid; and he shall spread his royal pavilion over them.

⁶ Therefore My fury and My anger was poured forth, and was kindled in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem; and they are wasted and desolate, as it is this day.'

¹¹ They ravished the women in Zion, and the maids in the cities of Judah.

²⁰ The LORD shall send on you cursing, vexation, and rebuke, in all that you set your hand to for to do, until you be destroyed, and until you perish quickly; because of the wickedness of your doings, by which you have forsaken me.

¹⁶ And the LORD said to Moses, "Behold, you shall sleep with your fathers; and this people will rise up, and go a whoring after the gods of the strangers of the land, where they go to be among them, and will forsake me, and break My covenant which I have made with them.

²⁰ If you forsake the LORD, and serve strange gods, then he will turn and do you hurt, and consume you, after that he has done you good.

¹⁷ Because they have forsaken Me, and have burned incense to other gods, that they might provoke Me to anger with all the works of their hands; therefore My wrath shall be kindled against this place, and shall not be quenched." '

¹⁹ But if you turn away, and forsake My statutes and My commandments, which I have set before you, and shall go and serve other gods, and worship them;

² And he went out to meet Asa, and said to him, "Hear you me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin; The LORD is with you, while you be with him; and if you seek him, he will be found of you; but if you forsake him, he will forsake you.

²⁵ Because they have forsaken me, and have burned incense to other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands; therefore my wrath shall be poured out on this place, and shall not be quenched.

⁸ Their land is also full of idols; they worship the work of their own hands, that which their own fingers have made:

¹⁹ and have cast their gods into the fire: For they were no gods, but the work of men's hands, wood and stone: Therefore they have destroyed them.

¹⁵ Then it shall be for a man to burn: For he will take of it, and warm himself; yes, he kindles it, and bakes bread; yes, he makes a god, and worships it; he makes it a graven image, and falls down to it.

³ A people who provoke Me to anger continually to My face; who sacrifice in gardens, and burn incense on altars of brick;

¹³ "For My people have committed two evils; they have forsaken Me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.

¹⁷ Have you not procured this to yourself, in that you have forsaken the LORD your God, when He led you by the way?

¹² even a full wind from those places shall come to Me: Now I will also give sentence against them.

²⁸ For this the earth shall mourn, and heaven above be black; because I have spoken it, I have purposed it, and will not relent, neither will I turn back from it.

⁹ Shall I not visit them for these things?" said the LORD: "and shall My soul not be avenged on such a nation as this?

²⁹ Shall I not visit for these things?' said the LORD: 'shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?

⁹ Will you steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense to Baal, and walk after other gods whom you do not know;

⁸ But they are altogether brutish and foolish: The wooden idol is a doctrine of vanities. ⁹ Silver spread into plates is brought from Tarshish, and gold from Uphaz, the work of the workman, and of the hands of the founder: Blue and purple is their clothing: They are all the work of cunning men.

¹⁵ They are vanity, and the work of errors: In the time of their visitation they shall perish.

¹² Then the cities of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem shall go, and cry to the gods to whom they offer incense: But they shall not save them at all in the time of their trouble.

¹⁷ For the LORD of hosts, who planted you, has pronounced evil against you, for the evil of the house of Israel and of the house of Judah, which they have done against themselves to provoke Me to anger in offering incense to Baal."

⁶ You have forsaken Me", said the LORD, "you have gone backward: Therefore I will stretch out My hand against you, and destroy you; I am weary with repenting.

¹¹ Then you shall say to them, 'Because your fathers have forsaken Me', said the LORD, 'and have walked after other gods, and have served them, and have worshiped them, and have forsaken Me, and have not kept My law;

¹³ O LORD, the hope of Israel, all who forsake you shall be ashamed, and they who depart from me shall be written in the earth, because they have forsaken the LORD, the fountain of living waters.

⁴ Because they have forsaken Me, and have estranged this place, and have burned incense in it to other gods, whom neither they nor their fathers have known, nor the kings of Judah, and have filled this place with the blood of innocents;

¹⁷ But we will certainly do whatever thing goes forth out of our own mouth, to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings to her, as we have done, we, and our fathers, our kings, and our princes, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem: For then we had plenty of food, and were well, and saw no evil.

¹⁷ Every man is brutish by his knowledge; every founder is confounded by the graven image: For his molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them.

⁹ And He said to me, "Go in, and behold the wicked abominations that they do here." ¹⁰ So I went in and saw; and behold every form of creeping things, and abominable beasts, and all the idols of the house of Israel, portrayed on the wall all around. ¹¹ And there stood before them seventy men of the elders of the house of Israel, and in the midst of them stood Jaazaniah the son of Shaphan, every man with his censer in his hand; and a thick cloud of incense went up.

¹⁴ I the LORD have spoken it: It shall come to pass, and I will do it; I will not go back, neither will I spare, neither will I repent; according to your ways, and according to your doings, they shall judge you", said the Lord GOD.

⁶ For it also came from Israel: The workman made it; therefore it is not God: But the calf of Samaria shall be broken in pieces.

² As they called them, to that degree they went from them: They sacrificed to Baalim, and burned incense to graven images.

¹¹ And the LORD shall utter His voice before His army: For His camp is very great: For He is strong that executes His word: For the day of the LORD is great and very terrible; and who can abide it?

³⁵ That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom you slew between the temple and the altar. ³⁶ Truly I say to you, All these things shall come upon this generation.

⁴¹ And they made a calf in those days, offered sacrifices to the idol, and rejoiced in the works of their own hands.

² You shall speak all that I command you: And Aaron your brother shall speak to Pharaoh, that he send the children of Israel out of his land.

⁴⁶ And the hand of the LORD was on Elijah; and he girded up his loins, and ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel.

²⁹ Then he said to Gehazi, "Gird up your loins, and take my staff in your hand, and go your way: If you meet any man, salute him not; and if any salute you, answer him not again: And lay my staff on the face of the child.

¹ And Elisha the prophet called one of the children of the prophets, and said to him, "Gird up your loins, and take this box of oil in your hand, and go to Ramothgilead:

³ Gird up now your loins like a man; for I will demand of you, and answer you me.

⁷ But the LORD said to me, "Do not say, 'I am a child': For you shall go to all whom I shall send you, and whatever I command you you shall speak. ⁸ Do not be afraid of their faces: For I am with you to deliver you", said the LORD.

¹⁸ Let them be confounded who persecute me, but don't let me be confounded: Let them be dismayed, but don't let me be dismayed: Bring on them the day of evil, and destroy them with double destruction.

²⁸ The prophet who has a dream, let him tell a dream; and he who has My word, let him speak My word faithfully. What is the chaff to the wheat?" said the LORD.

¹⁰ Moreover He said to me, "Son of man, receive in your heart all My words that I shall speak to you, and hear with your ears. ¹¹ And go, get yourself to those of the captivity, to the children of your people, and speak to them, and tell them, 'Thus says the Lord GOD'; whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear."

¹⁴ So the spirit lifted me up, and took me away, and I went in bitterness, in the heat of my spirit; but the hand of the LORD was strong on me. ¹⁵ Then I came to those of the captivity at Telabib, who dwelled by the river of Chebar, and I sat where they sat, and remained there astonished among them seven days. ¹⁶ And it came to pass at the end of seven days, that the word of the LORD came to me, saying, ¹⁷ "Son of man, I have made you a watchman to the house of Israel: Therefore hear the word of My mouth, and give them warning from Me. ¹⁸ When I say to the wicked, 'You shall surely die'; and you do not give him warning, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at your hand.

⁶ But if the watchman sees the sword come, and does not blow the trumpet, and the people are not warned; if the sword comes, and takes any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at the watchman's hand.' ⁷ So you, O son of man, I have set you a watchman to the house of Israel; therefore you shall hear the Word at My mouth, and warn them from Me. ⁸ When I say to the wicked, 'O wicked man, you shall surely die'; if you do not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but I will require his blood at your hand.

² "Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and preach to it the preaching that I bid you."

³⁵ Let your loins be girded around, and your lights burning;

²⁰ And how I kept back nothing that was profitable to you, but have shown you, and have taught you publicly, and from house to house,

¹⁶ For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to boast of: For necessity is laid upon me; yes, woe is me, if I do not preach the gospel!

² But even after we had suffered beforehand, and were shamefully treated at Philippi, as you know, we were bold in our God to speak to you the gospel of God with much contention.

¹³ Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;

⁷ For the Lord GOD will help Me; therefore I shall not be confounded: Therefore I have set My face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be ashamed.

²⁷ "I have set you for a tower and a fortress among My people, that you may know and test their way.

²⁰ And I will make you a fenced brazen wall to this people: And they shall fight against you, but they shall not prevail against you: For I am with you to save you and to deliver you", said the LORD.

⁴ 'Thus says the LORD God of Israel; "Behold, I will turn back the weapons of war that are in your hands, with which you fight against the king of Babylon, and against the Chaldeans, who besiege you outside the walls, and I will assemble them into the midst of this city. ⁵ And I Myself will fight against you with an outstretched hand and with a strong arm, even in anger, and in fury, and in great wrath. ⁶ And I will smite the inhabitants of this city, both man and beast: They shall die of a great pestilence. ⁷ And afterward", said the LORD, "I will deliver Zedekiah king of Judah, and his servants, and the people, and such as are left in this city from the pestilence, from the sword, and from the famine, into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those who seek their life: And he shall smite them with the edge of the sword; he shall not spare them, neither have pity, nor have mercy." ' ⁸ And to this people you shall say, 'Thus says the LORD; "Behold, I set before you the way of life, and the way of death. ⁹ He who stays in this city shall die by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence: But he who goes out, and falls to the Chaldeans that besiege you, he shall live, and his life shall be to him for a prey. ¹⁰ For I have set My face against this city for evil, and not for good", said the LORD: "it shall be given into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall burn it with fire." ' ¹¹ And touching the house of the king of Judah, say, 'Hear the word of the LORD; ¹² O house of David, thus says the LORD; "Execute judgment in the morning, and deliver him who is spoiled out of the hand of the oppressor, lest My fury go out like fire, and burn that none can quench it, because of the evil of your doings. ¹³ Behold, I am against you, O inhabitant of the valley, and rock of the plain", said the LORD; "which say, 'Who shall come down against us? Or who shall enter into our habitations?' ¹⁴ But I will punish you according to the fruit of your doings", said the LORD: "and I will kindle a fire in the forest of it, and it shall devour all things around it." ' "

⁴ For if you indeed do this thing, then there shall enter in by the gates of this house kings sitting on the throne of David, riding in chariots and on horses, he, and his servants, and his people. ⁵ But if you will not hear these words, I swear by Myself", said the LORD, "that this house shall become a desolation." ' " ⁶ For thus says the LORD to the king's house of Judah; "You are Gilead to Me, and the head of Lebanon: Yet I will surely make you a wilderness, and cities which are not inhabited. ⁷ And I will prepare destroyers against you, everyone with his weapons: And they shall cut down your choice cedars, and cast them into the fire. ⁸ And many nations shall pass by this city, and they shall say every man to his neighbor, 'Why has the LORD done thus to this great city?' ⁹ Then they shall answer, 'Because they have forsaken the covenant of the LORD their God, and worshiped other gods, and served them.' " ¹⁰ Weep not for the dead, neither bemoan him: But weep bitterly for him who goes away: For he shall return no more, nor see his native country. ¹¹ For thus says the LORD touching Shallum the son of Josiah king of Judah, who reigned instead of Josiah his father, who went forth out of this place; "He shall not return here anymore: ¹² But he shall die in the place where they have led him captive, and shall see this land no more. ¹³ Woe to him who builds his house by unrighteousness, and his chambers by wrong; who uses his neighbor's service without wages, and gives him nothing for his work; ¹⁴ who said, 'I will build myself a wide house and large chambers, and cuts himself out windows; and it is paneled with cedar, and painted with vermilion.' ¹⁵ Shall you reign, because you close yourself in cedar? Did not your father eat and drink, and do judgment and justice, and then it was well with him? ¹⁶ He judged the cause of the poor and needy; then it was well with him: Was not this known to me?" said the LORD. ¹⁷ But your eyes and your heart are not but for your covetousness, and to shed innocent blood, and for oppression, and for violence, to do it. ¹⁸ Therefore thus says the LORD concerning Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah; "They shall not lament for him, saying, 'Ah my brother! Or, Ah sister!' They shall not lament for him, saying, 'Ah lord! Or, Ah his glory!' ¹⁹ He shall be buried with the burial of a donkey, drawn and cast forth beyond the gates of Jerusalem. ²⁰ Go up to Lebanon, and cry; and lift up your voice in Bashan, and cry from the passages: For all your lovers are destroyed. ²¹ I spoke to you in your prosperity; but you said, 'I will not hear.' This has been your manner from your youth, that you have not obeyed My voice. ²² The wind shall eat up all your pastors, and your lovers shall go into captivity: Surely then you shall be ashamed and confounded for all your wickedness. ²³ O inhabitant of Lebanon, who makes your nest in the cedars, how gracious shall you be when pangs come on you, the pain as of a woman in travail! ²⁴ "As I live", said the LORD, "though Coniah the son of Jehoiakim king of Judah were the signet on my right hand, yet would I pluck you off; ²⁵ and I will give you into the hand of those who seek your life, and into the hand of those whose face you fear, even into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of the Chaldeans. ²⁶ And I will cast you out, and your mother who bore you, into another country, where you were not born; and there you shall die. ²⁷ But to the land to which they desire to return, there they shall not return. ²⁸ Is this man Coniah a despised broken idol? Is he a vessel in which is no pleasure? Why are they cast out, he and his seed, and are cast into a land which they do not know? ²⁹ O earth, earth, earth, hear the word of the LORD. ³⁰ Thus says the LORD, 'Write down this man as childless, a man who shall not prosper in his days: For no man of his seed shall prosper, sitting on the throne of David, and ruling anymore in Judah.' "

¹² Then Jeremiah spoke to all the princes and to all the people, saying, "The LORD sent me to prophesy against this house and against this city all the words that you have heard. ¹³ Therefore now amend your ways and your doings, and obey the voice of the LORD your God; and the LORD will relent of the evil that he has pronounced against you. ¹⁴ As for me, behold, I am in your hand: Do with me as seems good and proper to you. ¹⁵ But know for certain, that if you put me to death, you shall surely bring innocent blood on yourselves, and on this city, and on its inhabitants: For truly the LORD has sent me to you to speak all these words in your ears."

³ And you shall not escape out of his hand, but shall surely be taken, and delivered into his hand; and your eyes shall behold the eyes of the king of Babylon, and he shall speak with you mouth to mouth, and you shall go to Babylon.' " '

²⁰ I will even give them into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those who seek their life: And their dead bodies shall be for meat to the fowls of the heaven, and to the wild beasts of the earth. ²¹ And I will give Zedekiah king of Judah and his princes into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those who seek their life, and into the hand of the king of Babylon's army, who have gone up from you. ²² 'Behold, I will command', said the LORD, 'and cause them to return to this city; and they shall fight against it, and take it, and burn it with fire: And I will make the cities of Judah a desolation without an inhabitant.' "

²⁷ Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, after that the king had burned the scroll, and the words which Baruch wrote at the mouth of Jeremiah, saying, ²⁸ "Take again another scroll, and write in it all the former words that were in the first scroll, which Jehoiakim the king of Judah has burned. ²⁹ And you shall say to Jehoiakim king of Judah, 'Thus says the LORD; "You have burned this scroll, saying, 'Why have you written in it, saying, "The king of Babylon shall certainly come and destroy this land, and shall cause man and beast to cease from there?" ' " ³⁰ Therefore thus says the LORD of Jehoiakim king of Judah; "He shall have none to sit on the throne of David: And his dead body shall be cast out in the day to the heat, and in the night to the frost. ³¹ And I will punish him and his seed and his servants for their iniquity; and I will bring on them, and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and on the men of Judah, all the evil that I have pronounced against them; but they did not listen." ' " ³² Then Jeremiah took another scroll, and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Neriah; who wrote in it from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the book which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire: And there were added to them besides many like words.

⁷ "Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel; '"Thus you shall say to the king of Judah, who sent you to Me to inquire of Me; "Behold, Pharaoh's army, which came forth to help you, shall return to Egypt into their own land.

² "Thus says the LORD, 'He who remains in this city shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence: But he who goes forth to the Chaldeans shall live; for he shall have his life for a prey, and shall live.'

¹⁸ But if you will not go forth to the king of Babylon's princes, then this city shall be given into the hand of the Chaldeans, and they shall burn it with fire, and you shall not escape out of their hand.' "

²² Now therefore know certainly that you shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, in the place where you desire to go and to sojourn."

⁸ But truly I am full of power by the Spirit of the LORD, and of judgment, and of might, to declare to Jacob his transgression, and to Israel his sin. ⁹ Hear this, I implore you, all you heads of the house of Jacob, and princes of the house of Israel, that abhor judgment, and pervert all equity.

⁴² And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, He said, "You are Simon the son of Jonah: You shall be called Cephas", which is by interpretation: A stone.

² "Many a time they have afflicted me from my youth: Yet they have not prevailed against me.

⁸ Do not be afraid of their faces: For I am with you to deliver you", said the LORD.

¹⁹ But I was like a lamb or an ox that is brought to the slaughter; and did not I know that they had devised devices against me, saying, 'Let us destroy the tree with its fruit, and let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may not be remembered anymore.'

¹⁰ Woe is me, my mother, that you have borne me a man of strife and a man of contention to the whole earth! I have neither lent on usury, nor have men lent to me on usury; yet every one of them does curse me. ¹¹ The LORD said, "Truly it shall be well with your remnant; truly I will cause the enemy to entreat you well in the time of evil and in the time of affliction. ¹² Shall iron break the northern iron and the steel? ¹³ Your substance and your treasures I will give as spoil without price, and that for all your sins, even in all your borders. ¹⁴ And I will make you to pass with your enemies into a land which you do not know: For a fire is kindled in My anger, which shall burn on you." ¹⁵ O LORD, You know: Remember me and visit me, and take revenge for me on my persecutors; in your long-suffering do not take me away: Know that for Your sake I have suffered rebuke. ¹⁶ Your words were found, and I ate them; and Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart: For I am called by Your name, O LORD God of hosts. ¹⁷ I did not sit in the assembly of the mockers, nor rejoiced; I sat alone because of Your hand: For You have filled me with indignation. ¹⁸ Why is my pain perpetual, and my wound incurable, which refuses to be healed? Will You be altogether as a liar to me, and like waters that fail? ¹⁹ Therefore thus says the LORD, "If you return, then I will bring you back again, and you shall stand before Me: And if you take forth the precious from the vile, you shall be as My mouth: Let them return to you; but you must not return to them.

¹ Now Pashur the son of Immer the priest, who was also chief governor in the house of the LORD, heard that Jeremiah prophesied these things. ² Then Pashur smote Jeremiah the prophet, and put him in the stocks that were in the high gate of Benjamin, which was by the house of the LORD. ³ And it came to pass on the next day, that Pashur brought forth Jeremiah out of the stocks. Then Jeremiah said to him, "The LORD has not called your name Pashur, but Magormissabib. ⁴ For thus says the LORD, 'Behold, I will make you a terror to yourself, and to all your friends: And they shall fall by the sword of their enemies, and your eyes shall behold it: And I will give all Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall carry them captive into Babylon, and shall slay them with the sword. ⁵ Moreover I will deliver all the strength of this city, and all the labors of it, and all its precious things, and I will give all the treasures of the kings of Judah into the hand of their enemies, who shall spoil them, and take them, and carry them to Babylon. ⁶ And you, Pashur, and all who dwell in your house shall go into captivity: And you shall come to Babylon, and there you shall die, and shall be buried there, you, and all your friends, to whom you have prophesied lies.' "

²⁵ 'Thus speaks the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, saying, "Because you have sent letters in your name to all the people that are at Jerusalem, and to Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest, and to all the priests, saying, ²⁶ 'The LORD has made you priest in the stead of Jehoiada the priest, that you should be officers in the house of the LORD, for every man that is mad, and makes himself a prophet, that you should put him in prison, and in the stocks. ²⁷ Now therefore why have you not reproved Jeremiah of Anathoth, who makes himself a prophet to you? ²⁸ For therefore he sent to us in Babylon, saying, "This captivity is long: Build houses, and dwell in them; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them." ' " ' " ²⁹ And Zephaniah the priest read this letter in the ears of Jeremiah the prophet. ³⁰ Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, saying, ³¹ "Send to all them of the captivity, saying, 'Thus says the LORD concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite; "Because that Shemaiah has prophesied to you, and I did not send him, and he caused you to trust in a lie": ³² Therefore thus says the LORD; "Behold, I will punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite, and his seed: He shall not have a man to dwell among this people; neither shall he behold the good that I will do for My people", said the LORD; "because he has taught rebellion against the LORD." ' "

⁶ Then they took Jeremiah, and cast him into the dungeon of Malchiah the son of Hammelech, that was in the court of the prison: And they let down Jeremiah with cords. And in the dungeon there was no water, but mire: So Jeremiah sunk in the mire. ⁷ Now when Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, one of the eunuchs who was in the king's house, heard that they had put Jeremiah in the dungeon; the king then sitting in the gate of Benjamin; ⁸ ebedmelech went forth out of the king's house, and spoke to the king saying, ⁹ "My lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet, whom they have cast into the dungeon; and he is likely to die for hunger in the place where he is: For there is no more bread in the city." ¹⁰ Then the king commanded Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, saying, "Take from hence thirty men with you, and take up Jeremiah the prophet out of the dungeon, before he dies." ¹¹ So Ebedmelech took the men with him, and went into the house of the king under the treasury, and took there old cast clouts and old rotten rags, and let them down by cords into the dungeon to Jeremiah. ¹² And Ebedmelech the Ethiopian said to Jeremiah, "Now put these old cast clouts and rotten rags under your armholes under the cords." And Jeremiah did so. ¹³ So they drew up Jeremiah with cords, and took him up out of the dungeon: And Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison.
