¹ The vision of Isaiah the son of Amoz, which he saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah. ² Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth: For the LORD has spoken, "I have nourished and brought up children, and they have rebelled against Me. ³ The ox knows his owner, and the donkey his master's crib: But Israel does not know, my people do not consider. ⁴ Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, children that are corrupters: They have forsaken the LORD, they have provoked the Holy One of Israel to anger, they have departed away backward. ⁵ Why should you be stricken any more? You will revolt more and more: The whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint. ⁶ From the sole of the foot even to the head there is no soundness in it; but wounds, and bruises, and putrefying sores: They have not been closed, neither bound up, neither mollified with ointment. ⁷ Your country is desolate, your cities are burned with fire: Your land, strangers devour it in your presence, and it is desolate, as overthrown by strangers. ⁸ And the daughter of Zion is left as a cottage in a vineyard, as a lodge in a garden of cucumbers, as a besieged city. ⁹ Except the LORD of hosts had left to us a very small remnant, we should have been as Sodom, and we should have been like Gomorrah. ¹⁰ Hear the word of the LORD, you rulers of Sodom; give ear to the law of our God, you people of Gomorrah. ¹¹ "To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices to Me?" said the LORD: "I am full of the burnt offerings of rams, and the fat of fed beasts; and I do not delight in the blood of bulls, or of lambs, or of he-goats. ¹² When you come to appear before Me, who has required this at your hand, to tread My courts? ¹³ Bring no more vain oblations; incense is an abomination to Me; the new moons and Sabbaths, the calling of assemblies, I cannot away endure; it is iniquity, even the solemn meeting. ¹⁴ My soul hates your new moons and your appointed feasts: They are a trouble to me; I am weary to bear them. ¹⁵ And when you spread forth your hands, I will hide my eyes from you: Yes, when you make many prayers, I will not hear: Your hands are full of blood. ¹⁶ Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; put away the evil of your doings from before my eyes; cease to do evil; ¹⁷ learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow. ¹⁸ "Come now, and let us reason together", said the LORD: "though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. ¹⁹ If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land: ²⁰ But if you refuse and rebel, you shall be devoured with the sword: For the mouth of the LORD has spoken it. ²¹ How has the faithful city become a harlot! It was full of judgment; righteousness lodged in it; but now murderers. ²² Your silver has become dross, your wine mixed with water: ²³ Your princes are rebellious, and companions of thieves: Everyone loves gifts, and follows after rewards: They do not judge the fatherless, neither does the cause of the widow come to them. ²⁴ Therefore said the LORD, the LORD of hosts, the mighty One of Israel, "Ah, I will rid Myself of My adversaries, and avenge Myself of My enemies: ²⁵ And I will turn My hand upon you, and purely purge away your dross, and take away all your tin: ²⁶ And I will restore your judges as at the first, and your counsellors as at the beginning: Afterward you shall be called, The city of righteousness, the faithful city." ²⁷ Zion shall be redeemed with judgment, and her converts with righteousness. ²⁸ And the destruction of the transgressors and of the sinners shall be together, and those that forsake the LORD shall be consumed. ²⁹ For they shall be ashamed of the oaks which you have desired, and you shall be confounded for the gardens that you have chosen. ³⁰ For you shall be as an oak whose leaf fades, and as a garden that has no water. ³¹ And the strong shall be as wick, and the maker of it as a spark, and they shall both burn together, and none shall quench them.

⁶ And he said, "Hear now My words: If there be a prophet among you, I the LORD will make Myself known to him in a vision, and will speak to him in a dream.

⁴ He has said, "which heard the words of God, which saw the vision of the Almighty, falling into a trance, but having his eyes open:

¹ In the twenty and seventh year of Jeroboam king of Israel began Azariah son of Amaziah king of Judah to reign.

⁷ So Azariah slept with his fathers; and they buried him with his fathers in the city of David: And Jotham his son reigned in his stead.

³² In the second year of Pekah the son of Remaliah king of Israel began Jotham the son of Uzziah king of Judah to reign.

¹ Now it came to pass in the third year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, that Hezekiah the son of Ahaz king of Judah began to reign. ² Twenty and five years old was he when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty and nine years in Jerusalem. His mother's name also was Abi, the daughter of Zachariah. ³ And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that David his father did. ⁴ He removed the high places, and broke the images, and cut down the groves, and broke in pieces the brazen serpent that Moses had made: For to those days the children of Israel did burn incense to it: And he called it Nehushtan. ⁵ He trusted in the LORD God of Israel; so that after him was none like him among all the kings of Judah, nor any that were before him. ⁶ For he held to the LORD, and departed not from following him, but kept His commandments, which the LORD commanded Moses. ⁷ And the LORD was with him; and he prospered wherever he went forth: And he rebelled against the king of Assyria, and served him not. ⁸ He smote the Philistines, even to Gaza, and its borders, from the tower of the watchmen to the fenced city. ⁹ And it came to pass in the fourth year of king Hezekiah, which was the seventh year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, that Shalmaneser king of Assyria came up against Samaria, and besieged it. ¹⁰ And at the end of three years they took it: Even in the sixth year of Hezekiah, that is in the ninth year of Hoshea king of Israel, Samaria was taken. ¹¹ And the king of Assyria did carry away Israel to Assyria, and put them in Halah and in Habor by the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes: ¹² Because they obeyed not the voice of the LORD their God, but transgressed His covenant, and all that Moses the servant of the LORD commanded, and would not hear them, nor do them. ¹³ Now in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah did Sennacherib king of Assyria come up against all the fenced cities of Judah, and took them. ¹⁴ And Hezekiah king of Judah sent to the king of Assyria to Lachish, saying, "I have offended; return from me: That which you put on me will I bear. And the king of Assyria appointed to Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold. ¹⁵ And Hezekiah gave him all the silver that was found in the house of the LORD, and in the treasures of the king's house. ¹⁶ At that time did Hezekiah cut off the gold from the doors of the temple of the LORD, and from the pillars which Hezekiah king of Judah had overlaid, and gave it to the king of Assyria. ¹⁷ And the king of Assyria sent Tartan and Rabsaris and Rabshakeh from Lachish to king Hezekiah with a great host against Jerusalem. And they went up and came to Jerusalem. And when they had come up, they came and stood by the conduit of the upper pool, which is in the highway of the fuller's field. ¹⁸ And when they had called to the king, there came out to them Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, which was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder. ¹⁹ And Rabshakeh said to them, "Speak you now to Hezekiah, Thus says the great king, the king of Assyria, What confidence is this in which you trust? ²⁰ You say, (but they are but vain words), I have counsel and strength for the war. Now on whom do you trust, that you rebel against me? ²¹ Now, behold, you trust on the staff of this bruised reed, even on Egypt, on which if a man lean, it will go into his hand, and pierce it: So is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all that trust on him.

¹ And it came to pass, when king Hezekiah heard it, that he tore his clothes, and covered himself with sackcloth, and went into the house of the LORD. ² And he sent Eliakim, which was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests, covered with sackcloth, to Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz. ³ And they said to him, "Thus said Hezekiah, This day is a day of trouble, and of rebuke, and blasphemy; for the children have come to the birth, and there is not strength to bring forth. ⁴ It may be the LORD your God will hear all the words of Rabshakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master has sent to reproach the living God; and will reprove the words which the LORD your God has heard: Why lift up your prayer for the remnant that are left. ⁵ So the servants of king Hezekiah came to Isaiah. ⁶ And Isaiah said to them, "Thus you shall say to your master, Thus says the LORD, Do not be afraid of the words which you have heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed me. ⁷ Behold, I will send a blast on him, and he shall hear a rumor, and shall return to his own land; and I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land. ⁸ So Rabshakeh returned, and found the king of Assyria warring against Libnah: For he had heard that he was departed from Lachish. ⁹ And when he heard say of Tirhakah king of Ethiopia, Behold, he is come out to fight against you: He sent messengers again to Hezekiah, saying, ¹⁰ "Thus you shall speak to Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, 'Do not let your God in Whom you trust deceive you, saying, "Jerusalem shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria." ¹¹ Behold, you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands, by destroying them utterly: And shall you be delivered? ¹² Have the gods of the nations delivered them which my fathers have destroyed; as Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the children of Eden which were in Thelasar? ¹³ Where is the king of Hamath, and the king of Arpad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, of Hena, and Ivah? ¹⁴ And Hezekiah received the letter of the hand of the messengers, and read it: And Hezekiah went up into the house of the LORD, and spread it before the LORD. ¹⁵ And Hezekiah prayed before the LORD, and said, "O LORD God of Israel, which dwell between the cherubims, you are the God, even you alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth; you have made heaven and earth. ¹⁶ LORD, bow down your ear, and hear: Open, LORD, your eyes, and see: And hear the words of Sennacherib, which has sent him to reproach the living God. ¹⁷ Of a truth, LORD, the kings of Assyria have destroyed the nations and their lands, ¹⁸ and have cast their gods into the fire: For they were no gods, but the work of men's hands, wood and stone: Therefore they have destroyed them. ¹⁹ Now therefore, O LORD our God, I beseech you, save you us out of his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you are the LORD God, even you only. ²⁰ Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, "Thus says the LORD God of Israel, That which you have prayed to me against Sennacherib king of Assyria I have heard. ²¹ This is the word that the LORD has spoken concerning him; The virgin the daughter of Zion has despised you, and laughed you to scorn; the daughter of Jerusalem has shaken her head at you.

¹ In those days was Hezekiah sick to death. And the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz came to him, and said to him, "Thus says the LORD, Set your house in order; for you shall die, and not live. ² Then he turned his face to the wall, and prayed to the LORD, saying, ³ I beseech you, O LORD, remember now how I have walked before you in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in your sight. And Hezekiah wept sore. ⁴ And it came to pass, before Isaiah was gone out into the middle court, that the word of the LORD came to him, saying, ⁵ turn again, and tell Hezekiah the captain of my people, Thus says the LORD, the God of David your father, I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears: Behold, I will heal you: On the third day you shall go up to the house of the LORD. ⁶ And I will add to your days fifteen years; and I will deliver you and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria; and I will defend this city for my own sake, and for my servant David's sake. ⁷ And Isaiah said, "Take a lump of figs. And they took and laid it on the boil, and he recovered. ⁸ And Hezekiah said to Isaiah, "What shall be the sign that the LORD will heal me, and that I shall go up into the house of the LORD the third day? ⁹ And Isaiah said, "This sign shall you have of the LORD, that the LORD will do the thing that he has spoken: Shall the shadow go forward ten degrees, or go back ten degrees? ¹⁰ And Hezekiah answered, It is a light thing for the shadow to go down ten degrees: No, but let the shadow return backward ten degrees. ¹¹ And Isaiah the prophet cried out to the LORD: And he brought the shadow ten degrees backward, by which it had gone down in the dial of Ahaz. ¹² At that time Berodachbaladan, the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a present to Hezekiah: For he had heard that Hezekiah had been sick. ¹³ And Hezekiah listened to them, and showed them all the house of his precious things, the silver, and the gold, and the spices, and the precious ointment, and all the house of his armor, and all that was found in his treasures: There was nothing in his house, nor in all his dominion, that Hezekiah showed them not. ¹⁴ Then came Isaiah the prophet to king Hezekiah, and said to him, "What said these men? And from where came they to you? And Hezekiah said, "They are come from a far country, even from Babylon. ¹⁵ And he said, "What have they seen in your house? And Hezekiah answered, All the things that are in my house have they seen: There is nothing among my treasures that I have not showed them. ¹⁶ And Isaiah said to Hezekiah, "Hear the word of the LORD. ¹⁷ Behold, the days come, that all that is in your house, and that which your fathers have laid up in store to this day, shall be carried into Babylon: Nothing shall be left", says the LORD. ¹⁸ And of your sons that shall issue from you, which you shall beget, shall they take away; and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon. ¹⁹ Then said Hezekiah to Isaiah, Good is the word of the LORD which you have spoken. And he said, "Is it not good, if peace and truth be in my days? ²⁰ And the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, and all his might, and how he made a pool, and a conduit, and brought water into the city, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? ²¹ And Hezekiah slept with his fathers: And Manasseh his son reigned in his stead.

¹ Then all the people of Judah took Uzziah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in the room of his father Amaziah. ² He built Eloth, and restored it to Judah, after that the king slept with his fathers. ³ Sixteen years old was Uzziah when he began to reign, and he reigned fifty and two years in Jerusalem. His mother's name also was Jecoliah of Jerusalem. ⁴ And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his father Amaziah did. ⁵ And he sought God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the visions of God: And as long as he sought the LORD, God made him to prosper. ⁶ And he went forth and warred against the Philistines, and broke down the wall of Gath, and the wall of Jabneh, and the wall of Ashdod, and built cities about Ashdod, and among the Philistines. ⁷ And God helped him against the Philistines, and against the Arabians that dwelled in Gurbaal, and the Mehunims. ⁸ And the Ammonites gave gifts to Uzziah: And his name spread abroad even to the entering in of Egypt; for he strengthened himself exceedingly. ⁹ Moreover Uzziah built towers in Jerusalem at the corner gate, and at the valley gate, and at the turning of the wall, and fortified them. ¹⁰ Also he built towers in the desert, and dig many wells: For he had much domestic beasts, both in the low country, and in the plains: Farmers also, and vine dressers in the mountains, and in Carmel: For he loved husbandry. ¹¹ Moreover Uzziah had a host of fighting men, that went out to war by bands, according to the number of their account by the hand of Jeiel the scribe and Maaseiah the ruler, under the hand of Hananiah, one of the king's captains. ¹² The whole number of the chief of the fathers of the mighty men of valor were two thousand and six hundred. ¹³ And under their hand was an army, three hundred thousand and seven thousand and five hundred, that made war with mighty power, to help the king against the enemy. ¹⁴ And Uzziah prepared for them throughout all the host shields, and spears, and helmets, and coat of armors, and bows, and slings to cast stones. ¹⁵ And he made in Jerusalem engines, invented by cunning men, to be on the towers and on the bulwarks, to shoot arrows and great stones with. And his name spread far abroad; for he was marvelously helped, till he was strong. ¹⁶ But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up to his destruction: For he transgressed against the LORD his God, and went into the temple of the LORD to burn incense on the altar of incense. ¹⁷ And Azariah the priest went in after him, and with him eighty priests of the LORD, that were valiant men: ¹⁸ And they withstood Uzziah the king, and said to him, "It appertains not to you, Uzziah, to burn incense to the LORD, but to the priests the sons of Aaron, that are consecrated to burn incense: Go out of the sanctuary; for you have trespassed; neither shall it be for your honor from the LORD God. ¹⁹ Then Uzziah was wroth, and had a censer in his hand to burn incense: And while he was wroth with the priests, the leprosy even rose up in his forehead before the priests in the house of the LORD, from beside the incense altar. ²⁰ And Azariah the chief priest, and all the priests, looked on him, and behold, he was leprous in his forehead, and they thrust him out from there; yes, himself hurried also to go out, because the LORD had smitten him. ²¹ And Uzziah the king was a leper to the day of his death, and dwelled in a several house, being a leper; for he was cut off from the house of the LORD: And Jotham his son was over the king's house, judging the people of the land. ²² Now the rest of the acts of Uzziah, first and last, did Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, write. ²³ So Uzziah slept with his fathers, and they buried him with his fathers in the field of the burial which belonged to the kings; for they said, "He is a leper: And Jotham his son reigned in his stead.

His mother's name also was Jerushah, the daughter of Zadok. ² And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his father Uzziah did: However, he entered not into the temple of the LORD. And the people did yet corruptly. ³ He built the high gate of the house of the LORD, and on the wall of Ophel he built much. ⁴ Moreover he built cities in the mountains of Judah, and in the forests he built castles and towers. ⁵ He fought also with the king of the Ammonites, and prevailed against them. And the children of Ammon gave him the same year a hundred talents of silver, and ten thousand measures of wheat, and ten thousand of barley. So much did the children of Ammon pay to him, both the second year, and the third. ⁶ So Jotham became mighty, because he prepared his ways before the LORD his God. ⁷ Now the rest of the acts of Jotham, and all his wars, and his ways, lo, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah. ⁸ He was twenty-five years old when he began to reign, and reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem. ⁹ And Jotham slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David: And Ahaz his son reigned in his stead.

¹ Ahaz was twenty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem: But he did not that which was right in the sight of the LORD, like David his father: ² For he walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, and made also molten images for Baalim. ³ Moreover he burnt incense in the valley of the son of Hinnom, and burnt his children in the fire, after the abominations of the heathen whom the LORD had cast out before the children of Israel. ⁴ He sacrificed also and burnt incense in the high places, and on the hills, and under every green tree. ⁵ Why the LORD his God delivered him into the hand of the king of Syria; and they smote him, and carried away a great multitude of them captives, and brought them to Damascus. And he was also delivered into the hand of the king of Israel, who smote him with a great slaughter. ⁶ For Pekah the son of Remaliah slew in Judah a hundred and twenty thousand in one day, which were all valiant men; because they had forsaken the LORD God of their fathers. ⁷ And Zichri, a mighty man of Ephraim, slew Maaseiah the king's son, and Azrikam the governor of the house, and Elkanah that was next to the king. ⁸ And the children of Israel carried away captive of their brothers two hundred thousand, women, sons, and daughters, and took also away much spoil from them, and brought the spoil to Samaria. ⁹ But a prophet of the LORD was there, whose name was Oded: And he went out before the host that came to Samaria, and said to them, "Behold, because the LORD God of your fathers was wroth with Judah, he has delivered them into your hand, and you have slain them in a rage that reaches up to heaven. ¹⁰ And now you purpose to keep under the children of Judah and Jerusalem for servants and bondwomen to you: But are there not with you, even with you, sins against the LORD your God? ¹¹ Now hear me therefore, and deliver the captives again, which you have taken captive of your brothers: For the fierce wrath of the LORD is on you. ¹² Then certain of the heads of the children of Ephraim, Azariah the son of Johanan, Berechiah the son of Meshillemoth, and Jehizkiah the son of Shallum, and Amasa the son of Hadlai, stood up against those that came from the war, ¹³ and said to them, "You shall not bring in the captives here: For whereas we have offended against the LORD already, you intend to add more to our sins and to our trespass: For our trespass is great, and there is fierce wrath against Israel. ¹⁴ So the armed men left the captives and the spoil before the princes and all the congregation. ¹⁵ And the men which were expressed by name rose up, and took the captives, and with the spoil clothed all that were naked among them, and arrayed them, and shod them, and gave them to eat and to drink, and anointed them, and carried all the feeble of them on donkeys, and brought them to Jericho, the city of palm trees, to their brothers: Then they returned to Samaria. ¹⁶ At that time did king Ahaz send to the kings of Assyria to help him. ¹⁷ For again the Edomites had come and smitten Judah, and carried away captives. ¹⁸ The Philistines also had invaded the cities of the low country, and of the south of Judah, and had taken Bethshemesh, and Ajalon, and Gederoth, and Shocho with its villages, and Timnah with its villages, Gimzo also and its villages: And they dwelled there. ¹⁹ For the LORD brought Judah low because of Ahaz king of Israel; for he made Judah naked, and transgressed sore against the LORD. ²⁰ And Tilgathpilneser king of Assyria came to him, and distressed him, but strengthened him not. ²¹ For Ahaz took away a portion out of the house of the LORD, and out of the house of the king, and of the princes, and gave it to the king of Assyria: But he helped him not. ²² And in the time of his distress did he trespass yet more against the LORD: This is that king Ahaz. ²³ For he sacrificed to the gods of Damascus, which smote him: And he said, "Because the gods of the kings of Syria help them, therefore will I sacrifice to them, that they may help me. But they were the ruin of him, and of all Israel. ²⁴ And Ahaz gathered together the vessels of the house of God, and cut in pieces the vessels of the house of God, and shut up the doors of the house of the LORD, and he made him altars in every corner of Jerusalem. ²⁵ And in every several city of Judah he made high places to burn incense to other gods, and provoked to anger the LORD God of his fathers. ²⁶ Now the rest of his acts and of all his ways, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel. ²⁷ And Ahaz slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city, even in Jerusalem: But they brought him not into the sepulchers of the kings of Israel: And Hezekiah his son reigned in his stead.

¹ Hezekiah began to reign when he was twenty-five years old, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Abijah, the daughter of Zechariah. ² And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that David his father had done. ³ He in the first year of his reign, in the first month, opened the doors of the house of the LORD, and repaired them. ⁴ And he brought in the priests and the Levites, and gathered them together into the east street, ⁵ and said to them, "Hear me, you Levites, sanctify now yourselves, and sanctify the house of the LORD God of your fathers, and carry forth the filthiness out of the holy place. ⁶ For our fathers have trespassed, and done that which was evil in the eyes of the LORD our God, and have forsaken him, and have turned away their faces from the habitation of the LORD, and turned their backs. ⁷ Also they have shut up the doors of the porch, and put out the lamps, and have not burned incense nor offered burnt offerings in the holy place to the God of Israel. ⁸ Why the wrath of the LORD was on Judah and Jerusalem, and he has delivered them to trouble, to astonishment, and to hissing, as you see with your eyes. ⁹ For lo, our fathers have fallen by the sword, and our sons and our daughters and our wives are in captivity for this. ¹⁰ Now it is in my heart to make a covenant with the LORD God of Israel, that his fierce wrath may turn away from us. ¹¹ My sons, be not now negligent: For the LORD has chosen you to stand before him, to serve him, and that you should minister to him, and burn incense. ¹² Then the Levites arose, Mahath the son of Amasai, and Joel the son of Azariah, of the sons of the Kohathites: And of the sons of Merari, Kish the son of Abdi, and Azariah the son of Jehalelel: And of the Gershonites; Joah the son of Zimmah, and Eden the son of Joah: ¹³ And of the sons of Elizaphan; Shimri, and Jeiel: And of the sons of Asaph; Zechariah, and Mattaniah: ¹⁴ And of the sons of Heman; Jehiel, and Shimei: And of the sons of Jeduthun; Shemaiah, and Uzziel. ¹⁵ And they gathered their brothers, and sanctified themselves, and came, according to the commandment of the king, by the words of the LORD, to cleanse the house of the LORD. ¹⁶ And the priests went into the inner part of the house of the LORD, to cleanse it, and brought out all the uncleanness that they found in the temple of the LORD into the court of the house of the LORD. And the Levites took it, to carry it out abroad into the brook Kidron. ¹⁷ Now they began on the first day of the first month to sanctify, and on the eighth day of the month came they to the porch of the LORD: So they sanctified the house of the LORD in eight days; and on the sixteenth day of the first month they made an end. ¹⁸ Then they went in to Hezekiah the king, and said, "We have cleansed all the house of the LORD, and the altar of burnt offering, with all its vessels, and the show-bread table, with all its vessels. ¹⁹ Moreover all the vessels, which king Ahaz in his reign did cast away in his transgression, have we prepared and sanctified, and behold, they are before the altar of the LORD. ²⁰ Then Hezekiah the king rose early, and gathered the rulers of the city, and went up to the house of the LORD. ²¹ And they brought seven bulls, and seven rams, and seven lambs, and seven he-goats, for a sin offering for the kingdom, and for the sanctuary, and for Judah. And he commanded the priests the sons of Aaron to offer them on the altar of the LORD. ²² So they killed the bulls, and the priests received the blood, and sprinkled it on the altar: Likewise, when they had killed the rams, they sprinkled the blood on the altar: They killed also the lambs, and they sprinkled the blood on the altar. ²³ And they brought forth the he-goats for the sin offering before the king and the congregation; and they laid their hands on them: ²⁴ And the priests killed them, and they made reconciliation with their blood on the altar, to make an atonement for all Israel: For the king commanded that the burnt offering and the sin offering should be made for all Israel. ²⁵ And he set the Levites in the house of the LORD with cymbals, with psalteries, and with harps, according to the commandment of David, and of Gad the king's seer, and Nathan the prophet: For so was the commandment of the LORD by his prophets. ²⁶ And the Levites stood with the instruments of David, and the priests with the trumpets. ²⁷ And Hezekiah commanded to offer the burnt offering on the altar. And when the burnt offering began, the song of the LORD began also with the trumpets, and with the instruments ordained by David king of Israel. ²⁸ And all the congregation worshiped, and the singers sang, and the trumpeters sounded: And all this continued until the burnt offering was finished. ²⁹ And when they had made an end of offering, the king and all that were present with him bowed themselves, and worshiped. ³⁰ Moreover Hezekiah the king and the princes commanded the Levites to sing praise to the LORD with the words of David, and of Asaph the seer. And they sang praises with gladness, and they bowed their heads and worshiped. ³¹ Then Hezekiah answered and said, "Now you have consecrated yourselves to the LORD, come near and bring sacrifices and thank offerings into the house of the LORD. And the congregation brought in sacrifices and thank offerings; and as many as were of a free heart burnt offerings. ³² And the number of the burnt offerings, which the congregation brought, was three score and ten bulls, a hundred rams, and two hundred lambs: All these were for a burnt offering to the LORD. ³³ And the consecrated things were six hundred oxen and three thousand sheep.

¹ And Hezekiah sent to all Israel and Judah, and wrote letters also to Ephraim and Manasseh, that they should come to the house of the LORD at Jerusalem, to keep the Passover to the LORD God of Israel. ² For the king had taken counsel, and his princes, and all the congregation in Jerusalem, to keep the Passover in the second month. ³ For they could not keep it at that time, because the priests had not sanctified themselves sufficiently, neither had the people gathered themselves together to Jerusalem. ⁴ And the thing pleased the king and all the congregation. ⁵ So they established a decree to make proclamation throughout all Israel, from Beersheba even to Dan, that they should come to keep the Passover to the LORD God of Israel at Jerusalem: For they had not done it of a long time in such sort as it was written. ⁶ So the posts went with the letters from the king and his princes throughout all Israel and Judah, and according to the commandment of the king, saying, "You children of Israel, turn again to the LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, and he will return to the remnant of you, that are escaped out of the hand of the kings of Assyria. ⁷ And be not you like your fathers, and like your brothers, which trespassed against the LORD God of their fathers, who therefore gave them up to desolation, as you see. ⁸ Now be you not stiff-necked, as your fathers were, but yield yourselves to the LORD, and enter into his sanctuary, which he has sanctified forever: And serve the LORD your God, that the fierceness of his wrath may turn away from you. ⁹ For if you turn again to the LORD, your brothers and your children shall find compassion before those that lead them captive, so that they shall come again into this land: For the LORD your God is gracious and merciful, and will not turn away his face from you, if you return to him. ¹⁰ So the posts passed from city to city through the country of Ephraim and Manasseh even to Zebulun: But they laughed them to scorn, and mocked them. ¹¹ Nevertheless diverse of Asher and Manasseh and of Zebulun humbled themselves, and came to Jerusalem. ¹² Also in Judah the hand of God was to give them one heart to do the commandment of the king and of the princes, by the word of the LORD. ¹³ And there assembled at Jerusalem much people to keep the feast of unleavened bread in the second month, a very great congregation. ¹⁴ And they arose and took away the altars that were in Jerusalem, and all the altars for incense took they away, and cast them into the brook Kidron. ¹⁵ Then they killed the Passover on the fourteenth day of the second month: And the priests and the Levites were ashamed, and sanctified themselves, and brought in the burnt offerings into the house of the LORD. ¹⁶ And they stood in their place after their manner, according to the law of Moses the man of God: The priests sprinkled the blood, which they received of the hand of the Levites. ¹⁷ For there were many in the congregation that were not sanctified: Therefore the Levites had the charge of the killing of the Passover lambs for everyone that was not clean, to sanctify them to the LORD. ¹⁸ For a multitude of the people, even many of Ephraim, and Manasseh, Issachar, and Zebulun, had not cleansed themselves, yet did they eat the Passover otherwise than it was written. But Hezekiah prayed for them, saying, "The good LORD pardon every one ¹⁹ That prepares his heart to seek God, the LORD God of his fathers, though he be not cleansed according to the purification of the sanctuary. ²⁰ And the LORD listened to Hezekiah, and healed the people. ²¹ And the children of Israel that were present at Jerusalem kept the feast of unleavened bread seven days with great gladness: And the Levites and the priests praised the LORD day by day, singing with loud instruments to the LORD. ²² And Hezekiah spoke comfortably to all the Levites that taught the good knowledge of the LORD: And they ate throughout the feast seven days, offering peace offerings, and making confession to the LORD God of their fathers. ²³ And the whole assembly took counsel to keep other seven days: And they kept other seven days with gladness. ²⁴ For Hezekiah king of Judah did give to the congregation a thousand bulls and seven thousand sheep; and the princes gave to the congregation a thousand bulls and ten thousand sheep: And a great number of priests sanctified themselves. ²⁵ And all the congregation of Judah, with the priests and the Levites, and all the congregation that came out of Israel, and the strangers that came out of the land of Israel, and that dwelled in Judah, rejoiced. ²⁶ So there was great joy in Jerusalem: For since the time of Solomon the son of David king of Israel there was not the like in Jerusalem. ²⁷ Then the priests the Levites arose and blessed the people: And their voice was heard, and their prayer came up to his holy dwelling place, even to heaven.

¹ Now when all this was finished, all Israel that were present went out to the cities of Judah, and broke the images in pieces, and cut down the groves, and threw down the high places and the altars out of all Judah and Benjamin, in Ephraim also and Manasseh, until they had utterly destroyed them all. Then all the children of Israel returned, every man to his possession, into their own cities. ² And Hezekiah appointed the courses of the priests and the Levites after their courses, every man according to his service, the priests and Levites for burnt offerings and for peace offerings, to minister, and to give thanks, and to praise in the gates of the tents of the LORD. ³ He appointed also the king's portion of his substance for the burnt offerings, to wit, for the morning and evening burnt offerings, and the burnt offerings for the Sabbaths, and for the new moons, and for the set feasts, as it is written in the law of the LORD. ⁴ Moreover he commanded the people that dwelled in Jerusalem to give the portion of the priests and the Levites, that they might be encouraged in the law of the LORD. ⁵ And as soon as the commandment came abroad, the children of Israel brought in abundance the firstfruits of grain, wine, and oil, and honey, and of all the increase of the field; and the tithe of all things brought they in abundantly. ⁶ And concerning the children of Israel and Judah, that dwelled in the cities of Judah, they also brought in the tithe of oxen and sheep, and the tithe of holy things which were consecrated to the LORD their God, and laid them by heaps. ⁷ In the third month they began to lay the foundation of the heaps, and finished them in the seventh month. ⁸ And when Hezekiah and the princes came and saw the heaps, they blessed the LORD, and his people Israel. ⁹ Then Hezekiah questioned with the priests and the Levites concerning the heaps. ¹⁰ And Azariah the chief priest of the house of Zadok answered him, and said, "Since the people began to bring the offerings into the house of the LORD, we have had enough to eat, and have left plenty: For the LORD has blessed his people; and that which is left is this great store. ¹¹ Then Hezekiah commanded to prepare chambers in the house of the LORD; and they prepared them, ¹² and brought in the offerings and the tithes and the dedicated things faithfully: Over which Cononiah the Levite was ruler, and Shimei his brother was the next. ¹³ And Jehiel, and Azaziah, and Nahath, and Asahel, and Jerimoth, and Jozabad, and Eliel, and Ismachiah, and Mahath, and Benaiah, were overseers under the hand of Cononiah and Shimei his brother, at the commandment of Hezekiah the king, and Azariah the ruler of the house of God. ¹⁴ And Kore the son of Imnah the Levite, the porter toward the east, was over the freewill offerings of God, to distribute the oblations of the LORD, and the most holy things. ¹⁵ And next him were Eden, and Miniamin, and Jeshua, and Shemaiah, Amariah, and Shecaniah, in the cities of the priests, in their set office, to give to their brothers by courses, as well to the great as to the small: ¹⁶ Beside their genealogy of males, from three years old and upward, even to everyone that enters into the house of the LORD, his daily portion for their service in their charges according to their courses; ¹⁷ both to the genealogy of the priests by the house of their fathers, and the Levites from twenty years old and upward, in their charges by their courses; ¹⁸ and to the genealogy of all their little ones, their wives, and their sons, and their daughters, through all the congregation: For in their set office they sanctified themselves in holiness: ¹⁹ Also of the sons of Aaron the priests, which were in the fields of the suburbs of their cities, in every several city, the men that were expressed by name, to give portions to all the males among the priests, and to all that were reckoned by genealogies among the Levites. ²⁰ And thus did Hezekiah throughout all Judah, and worked that which was good and right and truth before the LORD his God. ²¹ And in every work that he began in the service of the house of God, and in the law, and in the commandments, to seek his God, he did it with all his heart, and prospered.

¹ After these things, and its establishment, Sennacherib king of Assyria came, and entered into Judah, and encamped against the fenced cities, and thought to win them for himself. ² And when Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib was come, and that he was purposed to fight against Jerusalem, ³ he took counsel with his princes and his mighty men to stop the waters of the fountains which were outside the city: And they did help him. ⁴ So there was gathered much people together, who stopped all the fountains, and the brook that ran through the middle of the land, saying, "Why should the kings of Assyria come, and find much water? ⁵ Also he strengthened himself, and built up all the wall that was broken, and raised it up to the towers, and another wall outside, and repaired Millo in the city of David, and made darts and shields in abundance. ⁶ And he set captains of war over the people, and gathered them together to him in the street of the gate of the city, and spoke comfortably to them, saying, ⁷ be strong and courageous, be not afraid nor dismayed for the king of Assyria, nor for all the multitude that is with him: For there be more with us than with him: ⁸ With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the LORD our God to help us, and to fight our battles. And the people rested themselves on the words of Hezekiah king of Judah. ⁹ After this did Sennacherib king of Assyria send his servants to Jerusalem, (but he himself laid siege against Lachish, and all his power with him), to Hezekiah king of Judah, and to all Judah that were at Jerusalem, saying, ¹⁰ thus said Sennacherib king of Assyria, Where on do you trust, that you abide in the siege in Jerusalem? ¹¹ Does not Hezekiah persuade you to give over yourselves to die by famine and by thirst, saying, "The LORD our God shall deliver us out of the hand of the king of Assyria? ¹² Has not the same Hezekiah taken away his high places and his altars, and commanded Judah and Jerusalem, saying, "You shall worship before one altar, and burn incense on it? ¹³ Do you not know what I and my fathers have done to all the people of other lands? Were the gods of the nations of those lands any ways able to deliver their lands out of my hand? ¹⁴ Who was there among all the gods of those nations that my fathers utterly destroyed, that could deliver his people out of my hand, that your God should be able to deliver you out of my hand? ¹⁵ Now therefore let not Hezekiah deceive you, nor persuade you on this manner, neither yet believe him: For no god of any nation or kingdom was able to deliver his people out of my hand, and out of the hand of my fathers: How much less shall your God deliver you out of my hand? ¹⁶ And his servants spoke yet more against the LORD God, and against his servant Hezekiah. ¹⁷ He wrote also letters to rail on the LORD God of Israel, and to speak against him, saying, "As the gods of the nations of other lands have not delivered their people out of my hand, so shall not the God of Hezekiah deliver his people out of my hand. ¹⁸ Then they cried out with a loud voice in the Jews' speech to the people of Jerusalem that were on the wall, to affright them, and to trouble them; that they might take the city. ¹⁹ And they spoke against the God of Jerusalem, as against the gods of the people of the earth, which were the work of the hands of man. ²⁰ And for this cause Hezekiah the king, and the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz, prayed and cried out to heaven. ²¹ And the LORD sent an angel, which cut off all the mighty men of valor, and the leaders and captains in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. And when he was come into the house of his god, those that came forth of his own bowels slew him there with the sword. ²² Thus the LORD saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib the king of Assyria, and from the hand of all other, and guided them on every side. ²³ And many brought gifts to the LORD to Jerusalem, and presents to Hezekiah king of Judah: So that he was magnified in the sight of all nations from thereafter. ²⁴ In those days Hezekiah was sick to the death, and prayed to the LORD: And he spoke to him, and he gave him a sign. ²⁵ But Hezekiah rendered not again according to the benefit done to him; for his heart was lifted up: Therefore there was wrath on him, and on Judah and Jerusalem. ²⁶ Notwithstanding Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of the LORD came not on them in the days of Hezekiah. ²⁷ And Hezekiah had exceedingly much riches and honor: And he made himself treasuries for silver, and for gold, and for precious stones, and for spices, and for shields, and for all manner of pleasant jewels; ²⁸ storehouses also for the increase of grain, and wine, and oil; and stalls for all manner of beasts, and cotes for flocks. ²⁹ Moreover he provided him cities, and possessions of flocks and herds in abundance: For God had given him substance very much. ³⁰ This same Hezekiah also stopped the upper watercourse of Gihon, and brought it straight down to the west side of the city of David. And Hezekiah prospered in all his works. ³¹ However, in the business of the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, who sent to him to inquire of the wonder that was done in the land, God left him, to try him, that he might know all that was in his heart. ³² Now the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, and his goodness, behold, they are written in the vision of Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, and in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel. ³³ And Hezekiah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the most chief of the sepulchers of the sons of David: And all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem did him honor at his death. And Manasseh his son reigned in his stead.

¹⁹ Then You spoke in a vision to Your holy one, and said, "I have laid help upon one that is mighty; I have exalted one chosen out of the people.

¹ The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.

¹ In the year that king Uzziah died I also saw the LORD sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and robe train filled the temple.

¹ And it came to pass in the days of Ahaz the son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, king of Judah, that Rezin the king of Syria, and Pekah the son of Remaliah, king of Israel, went up toward Jerusalem to war against it, but could not prevail against it.

¹ The burden of Babylon, which Isaiah the son of Amoz saw.

² A grievous vision is declared to me; the treacherous dealer deals treacherously, and the spoiler spoils. Go up, O Elam: Besiege, O Media; I have made all her sighing to cease.

⁹ O Zion, that brings good tidings, get up into the high mountain; O Jerusalem, that brings good tidings, lift up your voice with strength; lift it up, do not be afraid; say to the cities of Judah, "Behold your God!"

¹⁶ Thus says the LORD of hosts, "Do not listen to the words of the prophets who prophesy to you: They make you vain: They speak a vision of their own heart, and not out of the mouth of the LORD.

¹ The word of the LORD that came to Hosea, the son of Beeri, in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel.

¹ The words of Amos, who was among the herdsmen of Tekoa, which he saw concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash king of Israel, two years before the earthquake.

¹ The word of the LORD that came to Micah the Morasthite in the days of Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, which he saw concerning Samaria and Jerusalem.

² And the LORD answered me, and said, "Write the vision, and make it plain upon tablets, that he may run that reads it.

⁹ Then as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, "Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of Man is risen again from the dead."

¹⁷ Now while Peter doubted within himself what this vision which he had seen meant, behold, the men which were sent from Cornelius had made inquiry for Simon's house, and stood before the gate,

¹⁹ "Given wholly to this, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision:

¹ Doubtless it is not expedient for me to make boast. I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord.

²¹ For in old times the prophecy did not come by the will of man: But holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

³¹ and in the wilderness, where you have seen how that the LORD your God bore you, as a man does bear his son, in all the way that you went, until you came into this place.

⁷ For what nation is there so great, who has God so near to them, as the LORD our God is in all things that we call on him for? ⁸ And what nation is there so great, that has statutes and judgments so righteous as all this law, which I set before you this day?

²⁶ I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that you shall soon utterly perish from off the land whereto you go over the Jordan to possess it; you shall not prolong your days on it, but shall utterly be destroyed.

²² And at Taberah, and at Massah, and at Kibrothhattaavah, you provoked the LORD to wrath. ²³ Likewise when the LORD sent you from Kadeshbarnea, saying, "Go up and possess the land which I have given you; then you rebelled against the commandment of the LORD your God, and you believed him not, nor listened to his voice. ²⁴ You have been rebellious against the LORD from the day that I knew you.

¹⁹ I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: Therefore choose life, that both you and your seed may live:

¹ Give ear, O you heavens, and I will speak; and hear, O earth, the words of my mouth.

⁴ He shall call to the heavens from above, and to the earth, that He may judge His people.

¹ Now I will sing to my well Beloved a song of my Beloved touching His vineyard. My well Beloved has a vineyard in a very fruitful hill: ² And He fenced it, and gathered out the stones of it, and planted it with the choicest vine, and built a tower in the middle of it, and also made a winepress in it: And He expected that it should bring forth grapes, and it brought forth wild grapes.

¹ "Woe to the rebellious children", said the LORD, "that take counsel, but not of me; and that cover with a covering, but not of my spirit, that they may add sin to sin:

⁹ That this is a rebellious people, lying children, children that will not hear the law of the LORD:

³ "Listen to Me, O house of Jacob, and all the remnant of the house of Israel, who are borne by Me from the belly, who are carried from the womb: ⁴ And even to your old age I am He; and even to hoary hairs I will carry you: I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you.

⁹ In all their affliction He was afflicted, and the angel of His presence saved them: In His love and in His pity He redeemed them; and He bore them, and carried them all the days of old. ¹⁰ But they rebelled, and vexed His holy Spirit: Therefore He was turned to be their enemy, and He fought against them.

² I have spread out My hands all day long to a rebellious people, who walk in a way that was not good, after their own thoughts;

⁵ Thus says the LORD, "What iniquity have your fathers found in Me, that they have gone far from Me, and have walked after vanity, and have become vain? ⁶ Neither did they say, 'Where is the LORD who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, that led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and of pits, through a land of drought, and of the shadow of death, through a land that no man passed through, and where no man dwelled?' ⁷ And I brought you into a plentiful country, to eat its fruit and its goodness; but when you entered, you defiled My land, and made My heritage an abomination. ⁸ The priests did not say, 'Where is the LORD?' And those who handle the law did not know Me: The pastors also transgressed against Me, and the prophets prophesied by Baal, and walked after things that do not profit. ⁹ Why will I yet plead with you", said the LORD, "and with your children's children I will plead. ¹⁰ For pass over the isles of Chittim, and see; and send to Kedar, and consider diligently, and see if there is such a thing. ¹¹ Has a nation changed their gods, which are not yet gods? But My people have changed their glory for that which does not profit. ¹² Be astonished, O you heavens, at this, and be horribly afraid, be very desolate all of you", said the LORD. ¹³ "For My people have committed two evils; they have forsaken Me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.

¹⁹ Hear, O earth: Behold, I will bring evil on this people, even the fruit of their thoughts, because they have not listened to My words, nor to My law, but rejected it.

¹⁵ Hear all of you, and give ear; be not proud: For the LORD has spoken.

²⁹ O earth, earth, earth, hear the word of the LORD.

⁹ They shall come with weeping, and with supplications I will lead them: I will cause them to walk by the rivers of waters in a straight way in which they shall not stumble: For I am a Father to Israel, and Ephraim is My firstborn.

⁶ And when I passed by you, and saw you polluted in your own blood, I said to you when you were in your blood, 'Live'; yes, I said to you when you were in your blood, 'Live.' ⁷ I have caused you to multiply as the bud of the field, and you have increased and become great, and you have come to excellent ornaments: Your breasts are fashioned, and your hair is grown, whereas you were naked and bare. ⁸ Now when I passed by you, and looked on you, behold, your time was the time of love; and I spread my skirt over you, and covered your nakedness: Yes, I swore to you, and entered into a covenant with you", said the Lord GOD, "and you became Mine. ⁹ Then I washed you with water; yes, I thoroughly washed away your blood from you, and I anointed you with oil. ¹⁰ I also clothed you with broidered work, and shod you with badgers' skin, and I girded you about with fine linen, and I covered you with silk. ¹¹ I decked you also with ornaments, and I put bracelets upon your hands, and a chain on your neck. ¹² And I put a jewel on your forehead, and earrings in your ears, and a beautiful crown on your head. ¹³ Thus were you decked with gold and silver; and your clothing was of fine linen, and silk, and broidered work; you ate fine flour, and honey, and oil: And you were exceeding beautiful, and you did prosper into a kingdom. ¹⁴ And your renown went forth among the heathen for your beauty: For it was perfect through My splendor, which I had put on you", said the Lord GOD.

⁵ And say to them, 'Thus says the Lord GOD; "In the day when I chose Israel, and lifted up My hand to the seed of the house of Jacob, and made Myself known to them in the land of Egypt, when I lifted up My hand to them, saying, 'I am the LORD your God'; ⁶ in the day that I lifted up My hand to them, to bring them forth from the land of Egypt into a land that I had searched out for them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the glory of all lands: ⁷ Then I said to them, 'Let every man cast away the abominations of his eyes, and do not defile yourselves with the idols of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.' ⁸ But they rebelled against Me, and would not listen to Me: Every man did not cast away the abominations of their eyes, neither did they forsake the idols of Egypt: Then I said, 'I will pour out My fury upon them, to accomplish My anger against them in the midst of the land of Egypt. ⁹ But I worked for My name's sake, that it should not be polluted before the heathen, among whom they were, in whose sight I made Myself known to them, in bringing them forth out of the land of Egypt. ¹⁰ Therefore I caused them to go forth out of the land of Egypt, and brought them into the wilderness. ¹¹ And I gave them My statutes, and showed them My judgments, which if a man do, he shall live in and by them. ¹² Moreover I also gave them My Sabbaths, to be a sign between Me and them, that they might know that I am the LORD who sanctifies them. ¹³ But the house of Israel rebelled against Me in the wilderness: They did not walk in My statutes, and they despised My judgments, which if a man do, he shall even live in them; and they greatly polluted My Sabbaths: Then I said, 'I will pour out My fury upon them in the wilderness, to consume them.' ¹⁴ But I worked for My name's sake, that it should not be polluted before the heathen, in whose sight I brought them out. ¹⁵ Yet I also lifted up My hand to them in the wilderness, that I would not bring them into the land which I had given them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the glory of all lands; ¹⁶ because they despised My judgments, and did not walk in My statutes, but polluted My Sabbaths: For their heart went after their idols. ¹⁷ Nevertheless My eye spared from destroying them, neither did I make an end of them in the wilderness. ¹⁸ But I said to their children in the wilderness, 'Do not walk in the statutes of your fathers, neither observe their judgments, nor defile yourselves with their idols: ¹⁹ I am the LORD your God; walk in My statutes, and keep My judgments, and do them; ²⁰ and hallow My Sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between Me and you, that you may know that I am the LORD your God.' ²¹ Notwithstanding the children rebelled against Me: They did not walk in My statutes, neither kept My judgments to do them, which if a man do, he shall live in and by them; they polluted My Sabbaths: Then I said, 'I will pour out My fury on them, to accomplish My anger against them in the wilderness.' ²² Nevertheless I withdrew My hand, and worked for My name's sake, that it should not be polluted in the sight of the heathen, in whose sight I brought them forth. ²³ I also lifted up My hand to them in the wilderness, that I would scatter them among the heathen, and disperse them through the countries; ²⁴ because they had not executed My judgments, but had despised My statutes, and had polluted My Sabbaths, and their eyes were after their fathers' idols. ²⁵ Therefore I gave them also statutes that were not good, and judgments by which they should not live; ²⁶ and I polluted them in their own gifts, in that they caused all who open the womb to pass through the fire, that I might make them desolate, to the end that they might know that I am the LORD." ' ²⁷ Therefore, son of man, speak to the house of Israel, and say to them, 'Thus says the Lord GOD; "Yet in this your fathers have blasphemed Me, in that they have committed a trespass against Me. ²⁸ For when I had brought them into the land, for which I lifted up My hand to give it to them, then they saw every high hill, and all the thick trees, and they offered their sacrifices there, and they presented the provocation of their offering there: There also they made their sweet smell, and poured out their drink offerings there." ²⁹ Then I said to them, 'What is the high place where you go?' And its name is called Bamah to this day." ' ³⁰ Why does the house of Israel say, 'Thus says the Lord GOD; "Are you polluted after the manner of your fathers? And do you commit whoredom after their abominations? ³¹ For when you offer your gifts, when you make your sons to pass through the fire, you pollute yourselves with all your idols, even to this day: And shall I be inquired of by you, O house of Israel? As I live", said the Lord GOD, "I will not be inquired of by you. ³² And that which comes into your mind shall not be at all, that you say, 'We will be as the heathen, as the families of the countries, to serve wood and stone.'

⁴ Therefore, you mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord GOD; Thus says the Lord GOD to the mountains, and to the hills, to the rivers, and to the valleys, to the desolate wastes, and to the cities that are forsaken, which became a prey and derision to the residue of the heathen that are all around;

¹ Hear this word that the LORD has spoken against you, O children of Israel, against the whole family which I brought up from the land of Egypt, saying,

² Hear, all you people; hearken, O earth, and all that is in it: And let the Lord GOD be witness against you, the LORD from His holy temple.

⁸ But truly I am full of power by the Spirit of the LORD, and of judgment, and of might, to declare to Jacob his transgression, and to Israel his sin.

¹ Hear now what the LORD says; "Arise, contend yourselves before the mountains, and let the hills hear your voice. ² Hear, O mountains, the LORD's controversy, and you strong foundations of the earth: For the LORD has a controversy with His people, and He will plead with Israel.

⁶ "A son honors his father, and a servant his master: If then I am a father, where is My honor? And if I am a master, where is My fear?, says the LORD of hosts to you, O priests, that despise My name. And you all say, 'In what have we despised Your name?'

²⁰ For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard."

¹ What advantage then has the Jew? Or what is the profit of circumcision? ² Much in every way: Principally, because to them were committed the oracles of God.

⁴ Who are Israelites, to whom pertains the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the service of God, and the promises; ⁵ whose are the fathers, and from whom as far as concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over all, God blessed forever. Amen.

²⁸ For they are a nation void of counsel, neither is there any understanding in them. ²⁹ O that they were wise, that they understood this, that they would consider their latter end!

⁸ Understand, you brutish among the people: And you fools, when will you be wise?

⁶ Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:

¹² And the harp, and the viol, the tambourine, and pipe, and wine, are in their feasts: But they do not regard the work of the LORD, neither consider the operation of His hands.

¹¹ When its boughs are withered, they shall be broken off: The women come, and set them on fire: For it is a people of no understanding: Therefore He that made them will not have mercy on them, and He that formed them will show them no favor.

¹⁸ They have not known nor understood: For He has shut their eyes, that they cannot see; and their hearts, that they cannot understand.

²² "For my people are foolish, they have not known Me; they are silly children, and they have no understanding: They are wise to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge."

⁷ Yes, the stork in heaven knows her appointed times; and the turtle and the crane and the swallow observe the time of their coming; but My people do not know the judgment of the LORD.

³ "And like their bow they bend their tongues for lies: But they are not valiant for the truth upon the earth; for they proceed from evil to evil, and they do not know me", said the LORD. ⁴ "Everyone take heed of his neighbor, and do not trust in any brother: Forevery brother will utterly supplant, and every neighbor will walk with slanders. ⁵ And everyone will deceive his neighbor, and will not speak the truth: They have taught their tongue to speak lies, and weary themselves to commit iniquity. ⁶ Your habitation is in the midst of deceit; through deceit they refuse to know me", said the LORD.

⁸ But they are altogether brutish and foolish: The wooden idol is a doctrine of vanities.

¹⁴ Every man is brutish in His knowledge: Every founder is confounded by the graven image: For His molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them.

¹³ Therefore I speak to them in parables: Because seeing they do not see; and hearing they do not hear, neither do they understand. ¹⁴ And in them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled, which says, 'By hearing you shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing you shall see, and shall not perceive: ¹⁵ For this people's heart is waxed over, and their ears are dull of hearing, and they have closed their eyes; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.'

¹⁹ When anyone hears the word of the kingdom, and does not understand it, then the wicked one comes, and takes away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the wayside.

²⁸ And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not proper;

⁵ For they are willingly ignorant of this, that by the Word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:

¹³ But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the LORD, exceedingly so.

¹⁴ And behold, you are risen up in your fathers' stead, an increase of sinful men, to augment yet the fierce anger of the LORD toward Israel.

²⁵ Then men shall say, "Because they have forsaken the covenant of the LORD God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them forth out of the land of Egypt:

¹⁶ And the LORD said to Moses, "Behold, you shall sleep with your fathers; and this people will rise up, and go a whoring after the gods of the strangers of the land, where they go to be among them, and will forsake me, and break My covenant which I have made with them.

¹⁹ And when the LORD saw it, he abhorred them, because of the provoking of his sons, and of his daughters.

¹⁰ And the children of Israel cried out to the LORD, saying, "We have sinned against you, both because we have forsaken our God, and also served Baalim.

³ The wicked are estranged from the womb: They go astray as soon as they are born, speaking lies.

⁸ And might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation; a generation that did not set their heart aright, and whose spirit was not steadfast with God.

⁴⁰ How often they provoked Him in the wilderness, and grieve Him in the desert!

¹⁸ For the LORD is our defense; and the Holy One of Israel is our king.

²³ Your princes are rebellious, and companions of thieves: Everyone loves gifts, and follows after rewards: They do not judge the fatherless, neither does the cause of the widow come to them.

⁸ For Jerusalem is ruined, and Judah is fallen: Because their tongue and their doings are against the LORD, to provoke the eyes of His glory.

¹⁹ That say, "Let him make speed, and hasten his work, that we may see it: And let the counsel of the Holy One of Israel draw near and come, that we may know it!"

²⁴ Therefore as the fire devours the stubble, and the flame consumes the chaff, so their root shall be as rottenness, and their blossom shall go up as dust: Because they have cast away the law of the LORD of hosts, and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel.

⁶ I will send him against a hypocritical nation, and I will give him a charge against the people of my wrath, to take the spoil, and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire in the streets.

⁶ Cry out and shout, you inhabitant of Zion: For great is the Holy One of Israel in the midst of you.

²⁰ You shall not be joined with them in burial, because you have destroyed your land, and slain your people: The seed of evildoers shall never be renowned.

¹⁹ The meek shall also increase their joy in the LORD, and the poor among men shall rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.

¹¹ Get out of the way, turn aside out of the path, cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us." ¹² Therefore thus says the Holy One of Israel, "Because you despise this word, and trust in oppression and perverseness, and rely on them:

¹⁵ For thus says the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel; "In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength: And you would not."

²³ Whom have you reproached and blasphemed? And against whom have you exalted your voice, and lifted up your eyes on high? Even against the Holy One of Israel.

¹⁴ Fear not, you worm Jacob, and you men of Israel; I will help you' ", said the LORD, and your redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.

¹⁶ You shall fan them, and the wind shall carry them away, and the whirlwind shall scatter them: And you shall rejoice in the LORD, and shall glory in the Holy One of Israel.

²⁰ That they may see, and know, and consider, and understand together, that the hand of the LORD has done this, and the Holy One of Israel has created it.

³ But draw near here, you sons of the sorceress, the seed of the adulterer and the whore. ⁴ Against whom do you yourselves mock? Against whom do you make a wide mouth, and draw out the tongue? Are you not children of transgression, a seed of falsehood,

³ A people who provoke Me to anger continually to My face; who sacrifice in gardens, and burn incense on altars of brick;

⁵ Thus says the LORD, "What iniquity have your fathers found in Me, that they have gone far from Me, and have walked after vanity, and have become vain?

¹³ "For My people have committed two evils; they have forsaken Me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.

¹⁷ Have you not procured this to yourself, in that you have forsaken the LORD your God, when He led you by the way?

¹⁹ Your own wickedness shall correct you, and your backslidings shall reprove you: Know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that you have forsaken the LORD your God, and that My fear is not in you", said the Lord GOD of hosts.

³¹ O generation, see the word of the LORD all of you. Have I been a wilderness to Israel? A land of darkness? Why do my people say, 'We are lords; we will not come to You anymore'?

³³ Why beautify your way to seek love? Therefore you also have taught the wicked ones your ways.

¹⁹ Do they provoke Me to anger?" said the LORD: "do they not provoke themselves to the confusion of their own faces?"

²⁶ Yet they did not listen to me, nor inclined their ear, but hardened their neck: They did worse than their fathers.

¹¹ Then you shall say to them, 'Because your fathers have forsaken Me', said the LORD, 'and have walked after other gods, and have served them, and have worshiped them, and have forsaken Me, and have not kept My law; ¹² and you have done worse than your fathers; for behold, all of you walk after the imagination of his evil heart, everyone, that they may not listen to Me:

²⁹ Call together the archers against Babylon: All you who bend the bow, camp against it all around; let none of them escape: Recompense her according to her work; according to all that she has done, do to her: For she has been proud against the LORD, against the Holy One of Israel.

⁵ For Israel has not been forsaken, nor Judah of his God, of the LORD of hosts; though their land was filled with sin against the Holy One of Israel."

³³ They give gifts to all whores: But you give your gifts to all your lovers, and hire them, that they may come to you on every side for your whoredom.

⁷ But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, "O generation of vipers, who has warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

²⁸ Come to Me, all you that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

³³ You serpents, you generation of vipers, how can you escape the damnation of hell?

⁵¹ "You stiff necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always resist the Holy Spirit: As your fathers did, so you do. ⁵² Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? And they have slain those which foretold of the coming of the Just One; of whom you now have been the betrayers and murderers:

⁷ Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: For it is not subject to the law of God, indeed neither can be.

²² Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than He?

²⁴ who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is lacking of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for His body's sake, which is the church:

⁵ For her sins have reached to heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities.

²² And in the time of his distress did he trespass yet more against the LORD: This is that king Ahaz.

³⁴ Neither have our kings, our princes, our priests, nor our fathers, kept your law, nor listened to your commandments and your testimonies, with which you did testify against them.

¹³ For the people do not turn to Him that smites them, neither do they seek the LORD of hosts.

²¹ Manasseh, Ephraim; and Ephraim, Manasseh: And they together shall be against Judah. For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is outstretched still.

⁶ Turn to Him against whom the children of Israel have deeply revolted.

²⁴ And the inhabitant shall not say, "I am sick: The people that dwell in it shall be forgiven their iniquity.

³⁰ "In vain I have smitten your children; they received no correction: Your own sword has devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion.

³ O LORD, are not your eyes upon the truth? You have stricken them, but they have not grieved; You have consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction: They have made their faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return.

⁵ I will go myself to the great men, and will speak to them; for they have known the way of the LORD, and the judgment of their God: But these have altogether broken the yoke, and burst the bonds.

³¹ the prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and My people love to have it so: And what will you do in the end of it?'

²⁸ They are all grievous rebels, walking with slanders: They are brass and iron; they are all corrupters. ²⁹ The bellows are burned, the lead is consumed by the fire; the founder melts in vain: For the wicked are not plucked away. ³⁰ Men shall call them reprobate silver, because the LORD has rejected them.

³ "And like their bow they bend their tongues for lies: But they are not valiant for the truth upon the earth; for they proceed from evil to evil, and they do not know me", said the LORD.

¹³ In your filthiness is lewdness: Because I have purged you, and you were not purged, you shall not be purged from your filthiness any more, until I have caused My fury to rest on you.

⁸ O Lord, to us belongs confusion of face, to our kings, to our princes, and to our fathers, because we have sinned against You. ⁹ To the LORD our God belong mercies and forgivenesses, though we have rebelled against Him; ¹⁰ neither have we obeyed the voice of the LORD our God, to walk in His laws, which He set before us by His servants the prophets. ¹¹ Yes, all Israel has transgressed Your law, even by departing, that they might not obey Your voice; therefore the curse is poured upon us, and the oath that is written in the law of Moses the servant of God, because we have sinned against Him.

¹ Woe to her that is filthy and polluted, to the oppressing city! ² She did not obey the voice; she did not receive correction; she did not trust in the LORD; she did not draw near to her God. ³ Her princes within her are roaring lions; her judges are evening wolves; they do not gnaw the bones until the next day. ⁴ Her prophets are light and treacherous persons: Her priests have polluted the sanctuary, they have done violence to the law.

⁵ And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to children, "My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when you are rebuked by Him: ⁶ For whom the Lord loves He chastens, and scourges every son whom He receives." ⁷ If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father does not chasten? ⁸ But if you are without chastisement, of which all are partakers, then you are bastards, and not sons.

⁸ And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun; and power was given to him to scorch men with fire. ⁹ And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which has power over these plagues: And they did not repent to give Him glory. ¹⁰ And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and his kingdom was full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues out of pain, ¹¹ and blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and did not repent of their deeds.

²⁸ If there be dearth in the land, if there be pestilence, if there be blasting, or mildew, locusts, or caterpillars; if their enemies besiege them in the cities of their land; whatever sore or whatever sickness there be: ²⁹ Then what prayer or what supplication soever shall be made of any man, or of all your people Israel, when every one shall know his own sore and his own grief, and shall spread forth his hands in this house:

⁷ So went Satan forth from the presence of the LORD, and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot to his crown. ⁸ And he took him a broken clay pot fragment to scrape himself with; and he sat down among the ashes.

¹⁸ For he makes sore, and binds up: He wounds, and his hands make whole.

³ There is no soundness in my flesh because of Your anger; neither is there any rest in my bones because of my sin. ⁴ For my iniquities have gone over my head: As a heavy burden they are too heavy for me. ⁵ My wounds stink and are corrupt because of my foolishness.

² In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord: My sore ran in the night, and did not cease: My soul refused to be comforted.

¹⁴ They have also healed the hurt of the daughter of my people only slightly, saying, 'Peace, peace'; when there is no peace.

²¹ For the hurt of the daughter of my people I am hurt; I am black; astonishment has taken hold of me. ²² Is there no balm in Gilead; is there no physician there? Why then is the health of the daughter of My people not recovered?

¹² For thus says the LORD, 'Your bruise is incurable, and your wound is grievous.

⁶ Behold, I will bring it health and healing, and I will cure them, and will reveal to them the abundance of peace and truth.

¹² Therefore I will be to Ephraim as a moth, and to the house of Judah as rottenness. ¹³ When Ephraim saw his sickness, and Judah saw his wound, then Ephraim went to the Assyrian, and sent to king Jareb: Yet he could not heal you, nor cure you of your wound.

¹⁹ There is no healing of your bruise; your wound is grievous: All that hear the report of you shall clap the hands over you: For upon whom has your wickedness not passed continually?

² But to you that fear My name, the Sun of Righteousness shall arise with healing in His wings; and you all shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.

¹² But when Jesus heard that, He said to them, "Those that are whole do not need a physician, but those that are sick.

³⁴ and went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, brought him to an inn, and took care of him.

²⁰ Also there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, who was laid at his gate, full of sores, ²¹ and desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: Moreover, the dogs came and licked his sores.

³⁴ Then shall the land enjoy her Sabbaths, as long as it lies desolate, and you be in your enemies' land; even then shall the land rest, and enjoy her Sabbaths.

³³ The fruit of your land, and all your labors, shall a nation which you know not eat up; and you shall be only oppressed and crushed always:

⁴³ The stranger that is within you shall get up above you very high; and you shall come down very low.

⁴⁸ therefore you shall serve your enemies which the LORD shall send against you, in hunger, and in thirst, and in nakedness, and in want of all things: And he shall put a yoke of iron on your neck, until he have destroyed you. ⁴⁹ The LORD shall bring a nation against you from far, from the end of the earth, as swift as the eagle flies; a nation whose tongue you shall not understand; ⁵⁰ A nation of fierce countenance, which shall not regard the person of the old, nor show favor to the young: ⁵¹ And he shall eat the fruit of your domestic beasts, and the fruit of your land, until you be destroyed: Which also shall not leave you either grain, wine, or oil, or the increase of your cows, or flocks of your sheep, until he have destroyed you. ⁵² And he shall besiege you in all your gates, until your high and fenced walls come down, in which you trusted, throughout all your land: And he shall besiege you in all your gates throughout all your land, which the LORD your God has given you.

⁵ Why the LORD his God delivered him into the hand of the king of Syria; and they smote him, and carried away a great multitude of them captives, and brought them to Damascus. And he was also delivered into the hand of the king of Israel, who smote him with a great slaughter.

¹⁶ At that time did king Ahaz send to the kings of Assyria to help him. ¹⁷ For again the Edomites had come and smitten Judah, and carried away captives. ¹⁸ The Philistines also had invaded the cities of the low country, and of the south of Judah, and had taken Bethshemesh, and Ajalon, and Gederoth, and Shocho with its villages, and Timnah with its villages, Gimzo also and its villages: And they dwelled there. ¹⁹ For the LORD brought Judah low because of Ahaz king of Israel; for he made Judah naked, and transgressed sore against the LORD. ²⁰ And Tilgathpilneser king of Assyria came to him, and distressed him, but strengthened him not. ²¹ For Ahaz took away a portion out of the house of the LORD, and out of the house of the king, and of the princes, and gave it to the king of Assyria: But he helped him not.

³⁴ A fruitful land into barrenness, for the wickedness of those who dwell in it.

³⁹ Again, they are diminished and brought low through oppression, affliction, and sorrow.

⁵ And now come; I will tell you what I will do to My vineyard: I will take away its hedge, and it shall be eaten up; and break down the wall of it, and it shall be trodden down: ⁶ And I will lay it waste: It shall not be pruned, nor dug; but there shall come up briers and thorns: I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain on it.

⁹ In My ears said the LORD of hosts, "Truly, many houses shall be desolate, even great and fair looking ones, without inhabitant.

¹⁷ Then shall the lambs feed after their manner, and strangers shall eat the desolate places of the rich ones.

¹¹ Then I said, "Lord, how long?" And He answered, "Until the cities are wasted without inhabitant, and the houses without man, and the land is utterly desolate,

⁵ For every battle of the warrior is with confused noise, and garments rolled in blood; but this shall be with burning and fuel of fire.

¹⁰ The city of confusion is broken down: Every house is shut up, that no man may come in. ¹¹ There is a crying for wine in the streets; all joy is darkened, the mirth of the land is gone. ¹² In the city is left desolation, and the gate is smitten with destruction.

⁹ And the streams of it shall be turned into pitch, and the dust of it into brimstone, and the land of it shall become burning pitch.

¹⁵ The young lions roared on him, and yelled, and they made his land waste: His cities are burned without inhabitant.

⁸ Be instructed, O Jerusalem, lest My soul depart from you; lest I make you desolate, a land not inhabited."

² Our inheritance is turned to strangers, our houses to aliens.

¹² And I will make the rivers dry, and sell the land into the hand of the wicked: And I will make the land waste, and all that is in it, by the hand of strangers: I the LORD have spoken it."

⁹ Strangers have devoured his strength, and he does not know it: Yes, gray hairs are here and there upon him, yet he knows it not.

⁷ For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind: It has no stalk; the bud shall yield no meal: If per chance it does yield, the strangers shall swallow it up.

¹⁸ He builds his house as a moth, and as a booth that the keeper makes.

¹⁴ That I may show forth all Your praise in the gates of the daughter of Zion: I will rejoice in Your salvation.

⁴ When the Lord shall have washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion, and shall have purged the blood of Jerusalem from the midst of it by the spirit of judgment, and by the spirit of burning.

⁸ And he shall pass through Judah; he shall overflow and go over, he shall reach even to the neck; and the stretching out of his wings shall fill the breadth of your land, O Immanuel.

³² As yet he shall remain at Nob that day: He shall shake his hand against the mount of the daughter of Zion, the hill of Jerusalem.

²² This is the word which the LORD has spoken concerning him; 'The virgin, the daughter of Zion, has despised you, and laughed you to scorn; the daughter of Jerusalem has shaken her head at you.

¹¹ Behold, the LORD has proclaimed to the end of the world, "Say to the daughter of Zion, 'Behold, your salvation comes; behold, His reward is with Him, and His work before Him.' "

¹⁷ As keepers of a field, they are against her all around; because she has been rebellious against Me", said the LORD.

¹ How the LORD has covered the daughter of Zion with a cloud in his anger, and cast down the beauty of Israel from heaven to the earth, and did not remember His footstool in the day of His anger!

⁶ And He has violently taken away His tabernacle, as if it were a garden: He has destroyed His places of the assembly: The LORD has caused the solemn feasts and Sabbaths to be forgotten in Zion, and has despised the king and the priest in the indignation of His anger.

¹⁰ Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion: For lo, I come, and I will dwell in the midst of you", says the LORD.

⁹ Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: Behold, your King comes to you: He is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon a donkey, and upon a colt, the foal of a donkey.

⁴³ For the days shall come upon you, that your enemies shall cast a trench around you, surround you, and keep you in on every side, ⁴⁴ and shall level you even with the ground, and your children within you; and they shall not leave one stone upon another in you; because you did not know the time of your visitation."

¹⁵ "Fear not, daughter of Zion: Behold, your King comes, sitting on a donkey's colt."

²⁶ And the LORD said, "If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sakes."

³² And he said, "Oh let not the LORD be angry, and I will yet speak but this once: Peradventure ten shall be found there." And He said, "I will not destroy it for ten's sake."

²⁴ Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven;

²³ and that the whole land of it is brimstone, and salt, and burning, that it is not sown, nor bears, nor any grass grows in it, like the overthrow of Sodom, and Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboim, which the LORD overthrew in his anger, and in his wrath:

¹⁸ Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed to Baal, and every mouth which has not kissed him.

¹³ But yet in it shall be a tenth, and it shall return, and shall be consumed: As a teil tree, and as an oak, whose substance is in them, when they cast their leaves: So the holy seed shall be the substance of it."

²⁰ And it shall come to pass in that day, that the remnant of Israel, and such as have escaped of the house of Jacob, shall lean no more again on him that smote them; but shall lean on the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, in truth. ²¹ The remnant shall return, even the remnant of Jacob, to the mighty God. ²² For though your people Israel are as the sand of the sea, yet a remnant of them shall return: The decreed destruction shall overflow with righteousness.

⁶ Yet gleaning grapes shall be left in it, as the shaking of an olive tree, two or three berries in the top of the uppermost bough, four or five in the outmost fruitful branches of it", said the LORD God of Israel.

¹³ Thus when it shall be in the middle of the land among the people, there shall be as the shaking of an olive tree, and as the gleaning grapes when the vintage is done.

⁴ It may be the LORD your God will hear the words of Rabshakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master has sent to reproach the living God, and will reprove the words which the LORD your God has heard: Therefore lift up your prayer for the remnant that is left.' "

³¹ And the remnant of the house of Judah who have escaped shall again take root downward, and bear fruit upward: ³² For out of Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant, and they who escape out of Mount Zion: The zeal of the LORD of hosts shall do this.

²² It is by the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions never fail.

⁶ For the punishment of the iniquity of the daughter of my people is greater than the punishment of the sin of Sodom, that was overthrown in a moment, and no hands stayed on her.

⁸ Yet I will leave a remnant, that you may have some who shall escape the sword among the nations, when you shall be scattered through the countries.

²² Yet, behold, there shall be left a remnant in it that shall be brought forth, both sons and daughters: Behold, they shall come forth to you, and you shall see their way and their doings: And you shall be comforted concerning the evil that I have brought on Jerusalem, even concerning all that I have brought on it.

³² And it shall come to pass, that whoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered: For in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD has said, "and in the remnant whom the LORD shall call."

¹¹ "I have overthrown some of you, as God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, and you were as a firebrand plucked out of the burning: Yet you have not returned to Me", says the LORD.

² O LORD, I have heard Your speech, and was afraid: O LORD, revive Your work in the midst of the years, in the midst of the years make it known; in wrath remember mercy.

⁹ Therefore as I live," says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, "surely Moab shall be as Sodom, and the children of Ammon as Gomorrah, even the breeding of nettles, and salt pits, and a perpetual desolation: The residue of My people shall spoil them, and the remnant of My people shall possess them."

⁸ And it shall come to pass, that in all the land", says the LORD, "two-thirds in it shall be cut off and die; but one-third shall be left in the land. ⁹ And I will bring the one-third through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will prove them through testing as gold is proved: They shall call on My name, and I will hear them: I will say, 'It is My people': And they shall say, 'The LORD is my God.' "

¹⁴ Because straight is the gate, and narrow is the pathway which leads to life, and there are few that find it.

²⁹ but the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. ³⁰ Even like this shall it be in the day when the Son of Man is revealed.

²⁷ Isaiah also cries out concerning Israel, "Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a remnant shall be saved:

²⁹ And as Isaiah said before, "Unless the Lord of Sabaoth had left us a seed, we would have been even as Sodom, and been made similar to Gomorrah."

⁴ But what does God say to answer him? "I have reserved for Myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to the image of Baal." ⁵ Even so then, at this present time there is also a remnant according to the election of grace. ⁶ And if by grace, then it is no longer of works: Otherwise grace is no longer grace. But if it is of works, then it is no longer grace: Otherwise work is no longer work.

⁶ and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them with an overthrow, making them an example to those that afterward would live ungodly;

³² For their vine is of the vine of Sodom, and of the fields of Gomorrah: Their grapes are grapes of gall, their clusters are bitter:

¹⁹ And he said, "Hear you therefore the word of the LORD: I saw the LORD sitting on his throne, and all the host of heaven standing by him on his right hand and on his left. ²⁰ And the LORD said, "Who shall persuade Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramothgilead? And one said on this manner, and another said on that manner. ²¹ And there came forth a spirit, and stood before the LORD, and said, "I will persuade him. ²² And the LORD said to him, "With which? And he said, "I will go forth, and I will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, "You shall persuade him, and prevail also: Go forth, and do so. ²³ Now therefore, behold, the LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these your prophets, and the LORD has spoken evil concerning you.

⁹ The show of their countenance does witness against them; and they declare their sin as Sodom, they do not hide it. Woe to their soul! For they have rewarded evil to themselves.

²⁰ To the law and to the testimony: If they do not speak according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.

¹⁴ Why hear the word of the LORD, you scornful men, that rule this people who are in Jerusalem.

²⁶ egypt, and Judah, and Edom, and the children of Ammon, and Moab, and all who are in the utmost corners, who dwell in the wilderness: For all these nations are uncircumcised, and all the house of Israel are uncircumcised in the heart."

¹⁴ I have also seen a horrible thing in the prophets of Jerusalem: They commit adultery and walk in lies: They also strengthen the hands of evildoers, so that no one returns from his wickedness; they are, all of them, as Sodom to Me, and her inhabitants like Gomorrah.

⁴⁶ And your elder sister is Samaria, she and her daughters who dwell at your left hand: And your younger sister, who dwells at your right hand, is Sodom and her daughters.

⁴⁹ Behold, this was the iniquity of your sister Sodom, pride, fullness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.

⁸ The lion has roared, who will not fear? The Lord GOD has spoken, who can help but prophesy?

⁷ "Are you not as children of the Ethiopians to Me, O children of Israel?", says the LORD. "Have I not brought up Israel out of the land of Egypt? And the Philistines from Caphtor, and the Syrians from Kir?

⁸ But truly I am full of power by the Spirit of the LORD, and of judgment, and of might, to declare to Jacob his transgression, and to Israel his sin. ⁹ Hear this, I implore you, all you heads of the house of Jacob, and princes of the house of Israel, that abhor judgment, and pervert all equity. ¹⁰ They build up Zion with blood, and Jerusalem with iniquity. ¹¹ The heads of it judge for reward, and its priests teach for hire, and its prophets divine for money: Yet they will lean upon the LORD, and say, "Is not the LORD among us? No evil can come upon us." ¹² Therefore for your sake Zion shall be plowed as a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of the forest.

⁸ And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.

²² And Samuel said, "Has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.

⁸ I will not reprove you for your sacrifices or your burnt offerings, to have been continually before me.

¹⁶ For You do not desire sacrifice; otherwise I would give it: You do not delight in burnt offering.

⁸ The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD: But the prayer of the upright is His delight.

²⁷ The sacrifice of the wicked is abomination: How much more, when he brings it with a wicked mind?

³ He who kills an ox is as if he slew a man; he who sacrifices a lamb, as if he cut off a dog's neck; he who offers an oblation, as if he offered swine's blood; he who burns incense, as if he blessed an idol. Yes, they have chosen their own ways, and their soul delights in their abominations.

²⁰ For what purpose does incense from Sheba come to Me, and the sweet cane from a far country? Your burnt offerings are not acceptable, nor your sacrifices sweet to Me."

²¹ Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; "Put your burnt offerings to your sacrifices, and eat flesh.

²¹ I hate, I despise your feast days, and I will not smell scents in your solemn assemblies.solemn assemblies; or, holy days

⁷ Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, or with ten thousands of rivers of oil? Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?

¹⁰ "Who is there among you that would even shut the doors for free? Neither do you all kindle fire on My altar for free. I have no pleasure in you", says the LORD of hosts, "Neither will I accept an offering from your hand.

¹³ But go and learn what this means: 'I will have mercy, and not sacrifice': For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance."

¹⁷ Three times in the year all your males shall appear before the Lord GOD.

²³ Thrice in the year all your male children shall appear before the Lord GOD, the God of Israel.

¹⁶ Three times in a year shall all your males appear before the LORD your God in the place which he shall choose; in the feast of unleavened bread, and in the feast of weeks, and in the feast of tabernacles: And they shall not appear before the LORD empty:

⁶ Sacrifice and offering You did not desire; You have opened my ears: Burnt offering and sin offering you have not required.

¹ Keep your foot when you go to the house of God, and be more ready to hear, than to give the sacrifice of fools: For they do not consider that they do evil.

¹ "Cry aloud, spare not, lift up your voice like a trumpet, and show My people their transgression, and the house of Jacob their sins. ² Yet they seek Me daily, and delight to know My ways, as a nation that did righteousness, and did not forsake the ordinance of their God: They ask of Me the ordinances of justice; they take delight in approaching God.

⁸ He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?

⁵ But they do all their works to be seen by men: They make their phylacteries broad, and enlarge the borders of their garments.

¹⁶ And on the first day there shall be a holy convocation, and on the seventh day there shall be a holy convocation to you; no manner of work shall be done in them, except that which every man must eat, that only may be done by you.

¹ And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, ² speak to the children of Israel, and say to them, Concerning the feasts of the LORD, which you shall proclaim to be holy convocations, even these are my feasts. ³ Six days shall work be done: But the seventh day is the Sabbath of rest, a holy convocation; you shall do no work in it: It is the Sabbath of the LORD in all your dwellings. ⁴ These are the feasts of the LORD, even holy convocations, which you shall proclaim in their seasons. ⁵ In the fourteenth day of the first month at sunset is the LORD's Passover. ⁶ And on the fifteenth day of the same month is the feast of unleavened bread to the LORD: Seven days you must eat unleavened bread. ⁷ In the first day you shall have a holy convocation: You shall do no servile work in it. ⁸ But you shall offer an offering made by fire to the LORD seven days: In the seventh day is a holy convocation: You shall do no servile work in it. ⁹ And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, ¹⁰ speak to the children of Israel, and say to them, When you be come into the land which I give to you, and shall reap its harvest, then you shall bring a sheaf of the firstfruits of your harvest to the priest: ¹¹ And he shall wave the sheaf before the LORD, to be accepted for you: On the next day after the Sabbath the priest shall wave it. ¹² And you shall offer that day when you wave the sheaf a he lamb without blemish of the first year for a burnt offering to the LORD. ¹³ And the food offering of it shall be two tenth deals of fine flour mingled with oil, an offering made by fire to the LORD for a sweet smell: And the drink offering of it shall be of wine, the fourth part of a hin. ¹⁴ And you shall eat neither bread, nor parched grain kernels, nor green ears, until the same day that you have brought an offering to your God: It shall be a statute forever throughout your generations in all your dwellings. ¹⁵ And you shall count to you from the next day after the Sabbath, from the day that you brought the sheaf of the wave offering; seven Sabbaths shall be complete: ¹⁶ Even to the next day after the seventh Sabbath shall you number fifty days; and you shall offer a new food offering to the LORD. ¹⁷ You shall bring out of your habitations two wave loaves of two tenth deals; they shall be of fine flour; they shall be baked with leaven; they are the firstfruits to the LORD. ¹⁸ And you shall offer with the bread seven lambs without blemish of the first year, and one young bull, and two rams: They shall be for a burnt offering to the LORD, with their food offering, and their drink offerings, even an offering made by fire, of sweet smell to the LORD. ¹⁹ Then you shall sacrifice one kid of the goats for a sin offering, and two lambs of the first year for a sacrifice of peace offerings. ²⁰ And the priest shall wave them with the bread of the firstfruits for a wave offering before the LORD, with the two lambs: They shall be holy to the LORD for the priest. ²¹ And you shall proclaim on the same day, that it may be a holy convocation to you: You shall do no servile work in it: It shall be a statute forever in all your dwellings throughout your generations. ²² And when you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not make clean riddance of the corners of your field when you reap, neither shall you gather any gleaning of your harvest: You shall leave them to the poor, and to the stranger: I am the LORD your God. ²³ And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, ²⁴ speak to the children of Israel, saying, "In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, shall you have a Sabbath, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, a holy convocation. ²⁵ You shall do no servile work in it: But you shall offer an offering made by fire to the LORD. ²⁶ And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, ²⁷ also on the tenth day of this seventh month there shall be a day of atonement: It shall be a holy convocation to you; and you shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire to the LORD. ²⁸ And you shall do no work in that same day: For it is a day of atonement, to make an atonement for you before the LORD your God. ²⁹ For whatever soul it be that shall not be afflicted in that same day, he shall be cut off from among his people. ³⁰ And whatever soul it be that does any work in that same day, the same soul will I destroy from among his people. ³¹ You shall do no manner of work: It shall be a statute forever throughout your generations in all your dwellings. ³² It shall be to you a Sabbath of rest, and you shall afflict your souls: In the ninth day of the month at sunset, from even to even, shall you celebrate your Sabbath. ³³ And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, ³⁴ speak to the children of Israel, saying, "The fifteenth day of this seventh month shall be the feast of tabernacles for seven days to the LORD. ³⁵ On the first day shall be a holy convocation: You shall do no servile work in it. ³⁶ Seven days you shall offer an offering made by fire to the LORD: On the eighth day shall be a holy convocation to you; and you shall offer an offering made by fire to the LORD: It is a solemn assembly; and you shall do no servile work in it. ³⁷ These are the feasts of the LORD, which you shall proclaim to be holy convocations, to offer an offering made by fire to the LORD, a burnt offering, and a food offering, a sacrifice, and drink offerings, every thing on his day: ³⁸ Beside the Sabbaths of the LORD, and beside your gifts, and beside all your vows, and beside all your freewill offerings, which you give to the LORD. ³⁹ Also on the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when you have gathered in the fruit of the land, you shall keep a feast to the LORD seven days: On the first day shall be a Sabbath, and on the eighth day shall be a Sabbath. ⁴⁰ And you shall take you on the first day the boughs of goodly trees, branches of palm trees, and the boughs of thick trees, and willows of the brook; and you shall rejoice before the LORD your God seven days. ⁴¹ And you shall keep it a feast to the LORD seven days in the year. It shall be a statute forever in your generations: You shall celebrate it in the seventh month. ⁴² You shall dwell in booths seven days; all that are Israelites born shall dwell in booths: ⁴³ That your generations may know that I made the children of Israel to dwell in booths, when I brought them out of the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God. ⁴⁴ And Moses declared to the children of Israel the feasts of the LORD.

¹ And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, ² command the children of Israel, and say to them, My offering, and my bread for my sacrifices made by fire, for a sweet smell to me, shall you observe to offer to me in their due season. ³ And you shall say to them, This is the offering made by fire which you shall offer to the LORD; two lambs of the first year without spot day by day, for a continual burnt offering. ⁴ The one lamb shall you offer in the morning, and the other lamb shall you offer at sunset; ⁵ and a tenth part of an ephah of flour for a food offering, mingled with the fourth part of a hin of beaten oil. ⁶ It is a continual burnt offering, which was ordained in Mount Sinai for a sweet smell, a sacrifice made by fire to the LORD. ⁷ And the drink offering of it shall be the fourth part of a hin for the one lamb: In the holy place shall you cause the strong wine to be poured to the LORD for a drink offering. ⁸ And the other lamb shall you offer at sunset: As the food offering of the morning, and as the drink offering of it, you shall offer it, a sacrifice made by fire, of a sweet smell to the LORD. ⁹ And on the Sabbath day two lambs of the first year without spot, and two tenth deals of flour for a food offering, mingled with oil, and the drink offering of it: ¹⁰ This is the burnt offering of every Sabbath, beside the continual burnt offering, and his drink offering. ¹¹ And in the beginnings of your months you shall offer a burnt offering to the LORD; two young bulls, and one ram, seven lambs of the first year without spot; ¹² and three tenth deals of flour for a food offering, mingled with oil, for one bull; and two tenth deals of flour for a food offering, mingled with oil, for one ram; ¹³ and a several tenth deal of flour mingled with oil for a food offering to one lamb; for a burnt offering of a sweet smell, a sacrifice made by fire to the LORD. ¹⁴ And their drink offerings shall be half a hin of wine to a bull, and the third part of a hin to a ram, and a fourth part of a hin to a lamb: This is the burnt offering of every month throughout the months of the year. ¹⁵ And one kid of the goats for a sin offering to the LORD shall be offered, beside the continual burnt offering, and his drink offering. ¹⁶ And on the fourteenth day of the first month is the Passover of the LORD. ¹⁷ And on the fifteenth day of this month is the feast: Seven days shall unleavened bread be eaten. ¹⁸ In the first day shall be a holy convocation; you shall do no manner of servile work in it: ¹⁹ But you shall offer a sacrifice made by fire for a burnt offering to the LORD; two young bulls, and one ram, and seven lambs of the first year: They shall be to you without blemish: ²⁰ And their food offering shall be of flour mingled with oil: Three tenth deals shall you offer for a bull, and two tenth deals for a ram; ²¹ A several tenth deal shall you offer for every lamb, throughout the seven lambs: ²² And one goat for a sin offering, to make an atonement for you. ²³ You shall offer these beside the burnt offering in the morning, which is for a continual burnt offering. ²⁴ After this manner you shall offer daily, throughout the seven days, the meat of the sacrifice made by fire, of a sweet smell to the LORD: It shall be offered beside the continual burnt offering, and his drink offering. ²⁵ And on the seventh day you shall have a holy convocation; you shall do no servile work. ²⁶ Also in the day of the firstfruits, when you bring a new food offering to the LORD, after your weeks be out, you shall have a holy convocation; you shall do no servile work: ²⁷ But you shall offer the burnt offering for a sweet smell to the LORD; two young bulls, one ram, seven lambs of the first year; ²⁸ and their food offering of flour mingled with oil, three tenth deals to one bull, two tenth deals to one ram, ²⁹ A several tenth deal to one lamb, throughout the seven lambs;

¹ Observe the month of Abib, and keep the Passover to the LORD your God: For in the month of Abib the LORD your God brought you forth out of Egypt by night. ² You shall therefore sacrifice the Passover to the LORD your God, of the flock and the herd, in the place which the LORD shall choose to place his name there. ³ You shall eat no leavened bread with it; seven days you shall eat unleavened bread therewith, even the bread of affliction; for you came forth out of the land of Egypt in haste: That you may remember the day when you came forth out of the land of Egypt all the days of your life. ⁴ And there shall be no leavened bread seen with you in all your coast seven days; neither shall there anything of the flesh, which you sacrificed the first day at sunset, remain all night until the morning. ⁵ You may not sacrifice the Passover within any of your gates, which the LORD your God gives you: ⁶ But at the place which the LORD your God shall choose to place his name in, there you shall sacrifice the Passover at sunset, at the going down of the sun, at the season that you came forth out of Egypt. ⁷ And you shall roast and eat it in the place which the LORD your God shall choose: And you shall turn in the morning, and go to your tents. ⁸ Six days you shall eat unleavened bread: And on the seventh day shall be a solemn assembly to the LORD your God: You shall do no work in it. ⁹ Seven weeks shall you number to you: Begin to number the seven weeks from such time as you begin to put the sickle to the grain. ¹⁰ And you shall keep the feast of weeks to the LORD your God with a tribute of a freewill offering of your hand, which you shall give to the LORD your God, according to as the LORD your God has blessed you: ¹¹ And you shall rejoice before the LORD your God, you, and your son, and your daughter, and your manservant, and your maidservant, and the Levite that is within your gates, and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, that are among you, in the place which the LORD your God has chosen to place his name there. ¹² And you shall remember that you were a bondman in Egypt: And you shall observe and do these statutes. ¹³ You shall observe the feast of tabernacles seven days, after that you have gathered in your grain and your wine: ¹⁴ And you shall rejoice in your feast, you, and your son, and your daughter, and your manservant, and your maidservant, and the Levite, the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, that are within your gates. ¹⁵ Seven days shall you keep a solemn feast to the LORD your God in the place which the LORD shall choose: Because the LORD your God shall bless you in all your increase, and in all the works of your hands, therefore you shall surely rejoice. ¹⁶ Three times in a year shall all your males appear before the LORD your God in the place which he shall choose; in the feast of unleavened bread, and in the feast of weeks, and in the feast of tabernacles: And they shall not appear before the LORD empty: ¹⁷ Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the LORD your God which he has given you. ¹⁸ Judges and officers shall you make you in all your gates, which the LORD your God gives you, throughout your tribes: And they shall judge the people with just judgment. ¹⁹ You shall not wrest judgment; you shall not respect persons, neither take a gift: For a gift does blind the eyes of the wise, and pervert the words of the righteous. ²⁰ That which is altogether just shall you follow, that you may live, and inherit the land which the LORD your God gives you. ²¹ You shall not plant you a grove of any trees near to the altar of the LORD your God, which you shall make you. ²² Neither shall you set you up any image; which the LORD your God hates.

³¹ And to offer all burnt sacrifices to the LORD on the Sabbaths, in the new moons, and on the set feasts, by number, according to the order commanded to them, continually before the LORD:

⁹ Will you steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense to Baal, and walk after other gods whom you do not know; ¹⁰ and come and stand before Me in this house, which is called by My name, and say, 'We are delivered to do all these abominations?'

³⁹ As for you, O house of Israel", thus says the Lord GOD; "You go, everyone serve his idols, and hereafter also, if you will not listen to Me: But do not pollute My holy name any longer with your gifts, and with your idols.

¹⁴ Sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land into the house of the LORD your God, and cry to the LORD,

¹⁵ Blow the trumpet in Zion, sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly:

⁹ But in vain they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.' "

⁴² But woe to you, Pharisees! For you tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God: These you ought to have done, and not left the others undone.

¹⁷ Now in this which I declare to you I do not praise you, in that you come together not for the better, but for the worse.

³⁰ And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by which you are sealed until the day of redemption.

¹⁵ Some indeed preach Christ even from envy and strife; and some also from goodwill:

¹³ And he said, "Hear now, O house of David; Is it a small thing for you to weary men, but will you weary my God also?

¹ Woe to Ariel, to Ariel, the city where David dwelled! All of you add year to year; let them kill sacrifices.

²⁴ You have not bought Me sweet cane with money, neither have you filled Me with the fat of your sacrifices: But you have burdened Me to serve with your sins, you have wearied Me with your iniquities.

⁸ "For I the LORD love judgment, I hate robbery for burnt offering; and I will direct their work in truth, and I will make an everlasting covenant with them.

¹³ Behold, I am pressed under you, as a cart is pressed that is full of sheaves.

⁸ I also cut off three shepherds in one month; and my soul loathed them, and their soul also abhorred me.

¹⁷ You all have wearied the LORD with your words. Yet all you say, "In what have we wearied Him?" When you all say, "Everyone that does evil is good in the sight of the LORD, and He delights in them"; or, "Where is the God of judgment?"

²² And Solomon stood before the altar of the LORD in the presence of all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward heaven:

⁵⁴ And it was so, that when Solomon had made an end of praying all this prayer and supplication to the LORD, he arose from before the altar of the LORD, from kneeling on his knees with his hands spread up to heaven.

⁵ And at the evening sacrifice I arose up from my heaviness; and having rent my garment and my mantle, I fell upon my knees, and spread out my hands to the LORD my God,

⁸ For what is the hope of the hypocrite, though he has gained, when God takes away his soul? ⁹ Will God hear his cry when trouble comes on him?

²⁰ Terrors take hold on him as waters, a tempest steals him away in the night.

¹ To the chief Musician on Neginoth, Maschil, A Psalm of David. Give ear to my prayer, O God; and do not hide Yourself from my supplication.

¹⁸ If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me:

² Lift up your hands in the sanctuary, and bless the LORD.

²⁸ Then they shall call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:

¹⁷ And I will wait upon the LORD, who hides His face from the house of Jacob, and I will look for Him.

⁷ Is it not to deal your bread to the hungry, and that you bring the poor that are cast out to your house? When you see the naked, that you cover him; and that you do not hide yourself from your own flesh?

² But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid His face from you, that He will not hear. ³ For your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity; your lips have spoken lies, your tongue has muttered perverseness.

⁸ Behold, you trust in lying words that cannot profit.

¹² When they fast, I will not hear their cry; and when they offer burnt offering and an oblation, I will not accept them: But I will consume them by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence."

¹⁷ Then He said to me, "Have you seen this, O son of man? Is it a light thing to the house of Judah that they commit the abominations which they commit here? For they have filled the land with violence, and have returned to provoke Me to anger: And lo, they put the branch to their nose. ¹⁸ Therefore I will also deal in fury: My eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity: And though they cry in My ears with a loud voice, yet I will not hear them."

⁴ Then they shall cry to the LORD, but He will not hear them: He will even hide His face from them at that time, as they have behaved themselves badly in their doings.

⁹ Hear this, I implore you, all you heads of the house of Jacob, and princes of the house of Israel, that abhor judgment, and pervert all equity. ¹⁰ They build up Zion with blood, and Jerusalem with iniquity. ¹¹ The heads of it judge for reward, and its priests teach for hire, and its prophets divine for money: Yet they will lean upon the LORD, and say, "Is not the LORD among us? No evil can come upon us."

¹³ Therefore it has come to pass, that as He cried out, and they would not hear; so they cried out, and I would not hear", says the LORD of hosts:

⁷ But when you pray, do not use vain repetitions, as the heathen do: For they think that they shall be heard because of their many words.

¹³ But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: For you neither go in yourselves, nor do you permit those who are entering to go in.

²⁵ When once the Master of the house is risen up, and has shut the door, and you begin to stand outside, and to knock at the door, saying, 'Lord, Lord, open to us'; and He shall answer and say to you, 'I do not know you, nor what place you belong': ²⁶ Then you shall begin to say, 'We have eaten and drank in Your presence, and You have taught in our streets.' ²⁷ But He shall say, 'I tell you, I do not know you, nor what place you belong; depart from Me, all you workers of iniquity.' ²⁸ There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out.

⁸ It is my will therefore that men everywhere pray, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.

¹³ If you prepare your heart, and stretch out your hands toward him; ¹⁴ if iniquity be in your hand, put it far away, and let not wickedness dwell in your tabernacles.

⁶ I will wash my hands in innocence: In such a manner I will compass Your altar, O LORD:

¹⁴ Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.

²⁷ Depart from evil, and do good; and dwell forevermore.

¹¹ Depart all of you, depart, go out from there, touch no unclean thing; go out of the midst of her; be clean, you who bear the vessels of the LORD.

⁶ All of you seek the LORD while He may be found, call on Him while He is near: ⁷ Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: And let him return to the LORD, and He will have mercy on him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.

¹⁴ O Jerusalem, wash your heart from wickedness, that you may be saved. How long shall your vain thoughts lodge within you?

⁵ They said, 'All of you turn now again, everyone from his evil way, and from the evil of your doings, and dwell in the land that the LORD has given to you and to your fathers forever and ever:

³⁰ Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, everyone according to his ways", said the Lord GOD. "Repent, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin. ³¹ Cast away all your transgressions from you, by which you have transgressed; and make yourself a new heart and a new spirit: For why will you die, O house of Israel?

¹⁵ Hate the evil, and love the good, and establish judgment in the gate: It may be that the LORD God of hosts will be gracious to the remnant of Joseph.

³ Therefore say you to them, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts; "Turn to Me", says the LORD of hosts, "and I will turn to you", says the LORD of hosts. ⁴ "Do not be as your fathers, to whom the former prophets have cried out, saying, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts; "Turn now from your evil ways, and from your evil doings, all of you" ': But they did not hear, nor hearken to Me", says the LORD.

⁸ Therefore bring forth fruits suitable for repentance:

¹⁶ And now why do you tarry? Arise, and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.'

⁹ Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.

¹ Therefore having these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

²² That you put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; ²³ and be renewed in the spirit of your mind; ²⁴ and that you put on the new man, which after the manner of God is created in righteousness and true holiness. ²⁵ Therefore, putting away lying, "every man speak truth with his neighbor": For we are members of one another. ²⁶ "Be angry, and do not sin": Do not let the sun go down upon your wrath: ²⁷ Neither give place to the devil. ²⁸ Let him that stole steal no more: But rather let him labor, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needs. ²⁹ Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good for the use of edifying, that it may minister grace to the hearers.

¹¹ For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, ¹² teaching us that through denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; ¹³ looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ; ¹⁴ who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify to Himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

⁸ Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

¹ Therefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speaking,

¹¹ Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and pursue it.

¹⁴ And I said to him, "Sir, you know." So he said to me, "These are those which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

³ Defend the poor and fatherless: Do justice to the afflicted and needy. ⁴ Deliver the poor and needy: Deliver them out of the hand of the wicked.

⁹ Open your mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy.

³ Thus says the LORD; "Execute judgment and righteousness, and deliver the spoiled out of the hand of the oppressor: And do no wrong, do no violence to the stranger, the fatherless, nor the widow, neither shed innocent blood in this place.

¹⁵ Shall you reign, because you close yourself in cedar? Did not your father eat and drink, and do judgment and justice, and then it was well with him? ¹⁶ He judged the cause of the poor and needy; then it was well with him: Was not this known to me?" said the LORD.

²⁷ Therefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable to you, and break off your sins by righteousness, and your iniquities by showing mercy to the poor; if it may be a lengthening of your tranquility."

³ Seek the LORD, all you meek of the earth, which have worked His judgment; seek righteousness, seek meekness: It may be you all shall be hid in the day of the LORD's anger.

⁹ "Thus speaks the LORD of hosts, saying, 'Execute true judgment, and show mercy and compassions, every man to his brother: ¹⁰ And do not oppress the widow, nor the fatherless, the stranger, nor the poor; and let none of you imagine evil against his brother in your heart.'

¹⁶ These are the things that you all shall do; Speak the truth, every man, to his neighbor; execute the judgment of truth and peace in your gates:

⁷ Now therefore stand still, that I may reason with you before the LORD of all the righteous acts of the LORD, which He did to you and to your fathers.

⁷ Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

¹ Keep silence before me, O islands; and let the people renew their strength: Let them come near; then let them speak: Let us come near together for judgment.

²¹ "Produce your cause", said the LORD; "bring forth your strong reasons", said the King of Jacob.

²⁴ You have not bought Me sweet cane with money, neither have you filled Me with the fat of your sacrifices: But you have burdened Me to serve with your sins, you have wearied Me with your iniquities. ²⁵ I, even I, am He that blots out your transgressions for My own sake, and will not remember your sins. ²⁶ Put Me in remembrance: Let us plead together: Declare yourself, that you may be justified.

²² I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, your transgressions, and, as a cloud, your sins: Return to Me; for I have redeemed you.

² Hear, O mountains, the LORD's controversy, and you strong foundations of the earth: For the LORD has a controversy with His people, and He will plead with Israel.

¹⁸ Who is a God like You, that pardons iniquity, and passes by the transgression of the remnant of His heritage? He does not maintain His anger forever, because He delights in mercy. ¹⁹ He will return again, He will have compassion upon us; He will subdue our iniquities; and You will cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.

² And Paul, as his custom was, went in to them, and for three Sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures,

⁴ And he reasoned in the synagogue every Sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks.

²⁵ Moreover as he reasoned about righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come, Felix trembled, and answered, "Go your way for now; when I have a convenient opportunity, I will call for you."

²⁰ Moreover the law entered, that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:

⁶ to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He has made us accepted in the Beloved. ⁷ In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace; ⁸ in which He has abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence;

¹⁵ See, I have set before you this day life and good, and death and evil; ¹⁶ in that I command you this day to love the LORD your God, to walk in his ways, and to keep His commandments and His statutes and his judgments, that you may live and multiply: And the LORD your God shall bless you in the land where you go to possess it.

¹⁰ Say to the righteous, that it shall be well with him: For they shall eat the fruit of their doings.

¹ "Ho, everyone who thirsts, all of you come to the waters, and he who has no money; come all of you, buy, and eat; yes, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. ² Why do you spend money for that which is not bread? And your labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen to Me diligently, and eat that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness. ³ Incline your ear, and come to Me: Hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David.

¹² Go and proclaim these words toward the north, and say, 'Return, you backsliding Israel', said the LORD; 'and I will not cause My anger to fall upon you: For I am merciful', said the LORD, 'and I will not keep anger forever. ¹³ Only acknowledge your iniquity, that you have transgressed against the LORD your God, and have scattered your ways to the strangers under every green tree, and you have not obeyed My voice', said the LORD. ¹⁴ 'Turn, O backsliding children', said the LORD; 'for I am married to you: And I will take one of you from a city, and two from a family, and I will bring you to Zion:

¹⁸ I have surely heard Ephraim bemoaning himself saying; 'You have chastised me, and I was chastised, as a bull unaccustomed to the yoke: Turn me, and I shall be turned; for you are the LORD My God. ¹⁹ Surely after that I was turned, I repented; and after that I was instructed, I smote on my thigh: I was ashamed, yes, even confounded, because I bore the reproach of my youth.' ²⁰ Is Ephraim my dear son? Is he a pleasant child? For since I spoke against him, I earnestly do remember him still: Therefore My bowels are troubled for him; I will surely have mercy on him", said the LORD.

¹ O Israel, return to the LORD your God; for you have fallen by your iniquity. ² Take with you words, and turn to the LORD: Say to Him, "Take away all iniquity, and receive us graciously: So will we render the calves of our lips. ³ Asshur shall not save us; we will not ride upon horses: Neither will we say any more to the work of our hands, 'You are our gods': For in You the fatherless finds mercy." ⁴ "I will heal their backsliding, I will love them freely: For My anger is turned away from him.

²⁶ And you shall eat in plenty, and be satisfied, and praise the name of the LORD your God, that has dealt wondrously with you: And My people shall never be ashamed.

²⁸ But what do you think? A certain man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, 'Son, go work today in my vineyard.' ²⁹ He answered and said, 'I will not': But afterward he repented, and went. ³⁰ Then he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, 'I will go, sir': And did not go. ³¹ Which of those two did the will of his father?" They said to Him, "The first." Jesus said to them, "Truly I say to you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you. ³² For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him: But the publicans and the harlots believed him: And you, when you had seen it, did not repent afterward, that you might believe him.

⁹ and being made perfect, He became the author of eternal salvation to all those that obey Him;

³³ And I will scatter you among the heathen, and will draw out a sword after you: And your land shall be desolate, and your cities waste.

¹⁹ God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: Has he said, "and shall he not do it? Or has he spoken, and shall he not make it good?

²⁵ But if you shall still do wickedly, you shall be consumed, both you and your king."

²⁹ And also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent: For He is not a man, that He should repent."

¹⁴ Moreover all the chief of the priests, and the people, transgressed very much after all the abominations of the heathen; and polluted the house of the LORD which he had hallowed in Jerusalem. ¹⁵ And the LORD God of their fathers sent to them by his messengers, rising up betimes, and sending; because he had compassion on his people, and on his dwelling place: ¹⁶ But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till there was no remedy.

¹¹ Woe to the wicked! It shall be ill with him: For the reward of his hands shall be given him.

²⁵ Your men shall fall by the sword, and your mighty in the war.

⁵ And the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: For the mouth of the LORD has spoken it."

¹⁴ Then you shall delight yourself in the LORD; and I will cause you to ride on the high places of the earth, and feed you with the heritage of Jacob your father: For the mouth of the LORD has spoken it."

¹² Therefore I will number you to the sword, and you shall all bow down to the slaughter: Because when I called, you did not answer; when I spoke, you did not hear; but did evil before My eyes, and chose that in which I do not delight."

⁴ But they shall sit, every man, under his vine and under his fig tree; and none shall make them afraid: For the mouth of the LORD of hosts has spoken it.

² in hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;

¹ Therefore we ought to give more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip. ² For if the word spoken by angels was steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompense of reward; ³ how shall we escape, if we neglect such great salvation; which at first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those that heard Him;

¹⁵ And David reigned over all Israel; and David executed judgment and justice to all his people.

⁹ And he charged them, saying, "Thus shall you do in the fear of the LORD, faithfully, and with a perfect heart.

¹ And the rulers of the people dwelled at Jerusalem: The rest of the people also cast lots, to bring one of ten to dwell in Jerusalem the holy city, and nine parts to dwell in other cities.

⁴ There is a river, the streams of which shall make the city of God glad, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High.

¹ A Song and Psalm for the sons of Korah. Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of His holiness.

⁸ As we have heard, so have we seen in the city of the LORD of hosts, in the city of our God: God will establish it forever. Selah.

⁷ For the vineyard of the LORD of hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah His pleasant plant: And He looked for judgment, but behold oppression; for righteousness, but behold a cry.

² For they call themselves of the holy city, and stay themselves on the God of Israel; The LORD of hosts is his name.

³ But draw near here, you sons of the sorceress, the seed of the adulterer and the whore. ⁴ Against whom do you yourselves mock? Against whom do you make a wide mouth, and draw out the tongue? Are you not children of transgression, a seed of falsehood, ⁵ inflaming yourselves with idols under every green tree, slaying the children in the valleys under the clefts of the rocks? ⁶ Among the smooth stones of the stream is your portion; they, they are your lot: Even to them you have poured a drink offering, you have offered a food offering. Should I receive comfort in these? ⁷ On a lofty and high mountain you have set your bed: Even there you went up to offer sacrifice. ⁸ Also behind the doors and the posts you have set up your remembrance: For you have uncovered yourself to those other than me, and have gone up; you have enlarged your bed, and you made a covenant with them; you loved their bed where you saw it. ⁹ And you went to the king with fragrant ointment, and increased your perfumes, and sent your messengers far off, and debased yourself even to hell.

²⁰ "For from old times I have broken your yoke, and burst your bands; and you said, 'I will not transgress'; when on every high hill and under every green tree you wander, playing the harlot. ²¹ Yet I had planted you a noble vine, wholly a right seed: How then are you turned into the degenerate plant of a strange vine to me?

¹ "They say, "If a man put away his wife, and she go from him, and become another man's, shall he return to her again? Shall that land not be greatly polluted? But you have played the harlot with many lovers; yet return again to me", said the LORD.

⁸ Jerusalem has grievously sinned; therefore she is removed: All who honored her despise her, because they have seen her nakedness: Yes, she sighs, and turns backward. ⁹ Her filthiness is in her skirts; she does not remember her final end; therefore she came down wonderfully: She had no comforter. "O LORD, behold my affliction: For the enemy has magnified himself."

¹ Again the word of the LORD came to me, saying, ² "Son of man, cause Jerusalem to know her abominations, ³ and say, 'Thus says the Lord GOD to Jerusalem; "Your birth and your nativity is of the land of Canaan; your father was an Amorite, and your mother a Hittite. ⁴ And as for your nativity, in the day you were born your navel was not cut, neither were you washed in water to supple you; you were not salted at all, nor swaddled at all. ⁵ No eye pitied you, to do any of these to you, to have compassion on you; but you were cast out in the open field, to the loathing of your person, in the day that you were born. ⁶ And when I passed by you, and saw you polluted in your own blood, I said to you when you were in your blood, 'Live'; yes, I said to you when you were in your blood, 'Live.' ⁷ I have caused you to multiply as the bud of the field, and you have increased and become great, and you have come to excellent ornaments: Your breasts are fashioned, and your hair is grown, whereas you were naked and bare. ⁸ Now when I passed by you, and looked on you, behold, your time was the time of love; and I spread my skirt over you, and covered your nakedness: Yes, I swore to you, and entered into a covenant with you", said the Lord GOD, "and you became Mine. ⁹ Then I washed you with water; yes, I thoroughly washed away your blood from you, and I anointed you with oil. ¹⁰ I also clothed you with broidered work, and shod you with badgers' skin, and I girded you about with fine linen, and I covered you with silk. ¹¹ I decked you also with ornaments, and I put bracelets upon your hands, and a chain on your neck. ¹² And I put a jewel on your forehead, and earrings in your ears, and a beautiful crown on your head. ¹³ Thus were you decked with gold and silver; and your clothing was of fine linen, and silk, and broidered work; you ate fine flour, and honey, and oil: And you were exceeding beautiful, and you did prosper into a kingdom. ¹⁴ And your renown went forth among the heathen for your beauty: For it was perfect through My splendor, which I had put on you", said the Lord GOD. ¹⁵ "But you trusted in your own beauty, and played the harlot because of your renown, and poured out your fornications on every one who passed by; his it was. ¹⁶ And you took from your garments, and decked your high places with various colors, and played the harlot upon them: Things which should not come, neither should they be so. ¹⁷ You have also taken your fair jewels of My gold and of My silver, which I had given you, and made to yourself images of men, and did commit whoredom with them, ¹⁸ and took your broidered garments, and covered them: And you have set My oil and My incense before them. ¹⁹ Also My meat which I gave you, fine flour, and oil, and honey, with which I fed you, you have even set it before them for a sweet smell: And thus it was", said the Lord GOD. ²⁰ "Moreover you have taken your sons and your daughters, whom you have borne to Me, and you have sacrificed these ones to them to be devoured. Are your whoredoms a small matter, ²¹ that you have slain My children, and delivered and caused these ones to pass through the fire for them? ²² And in all your abominations and your whoredoms you have not remembered the days of your youth, when you were naked and bare, and were polluted in your blood. ²³ And it came to pass after all your wickedness, ('woe, woe to you!' said the Lord GOD); ²⁴ That you have also built to yourselves an eminent place, and have made a high place in every street. ²⁵ You have built your high place at every head of a road, and have made your beauty to be abhorred, and have opened your feet to everyone who passed by, and multiplied your whoredoms. ²⁶ You have also committed fornication with your neighbors the Egyptians, great of flesh; and have increased your whoredoms, to provoke Me to anger. ²⁷ Behold, therefore I have outstretched My hand over you, and have diminished your ordinary food, and delivered you to the will of those who hate you, the daughters of the Philistines, who are ashamed of your lewd way. ²⁸ You have also played the whore with the Assyrians, because you were insatiable; yes, you have played the harlot with them, and yet could not be satisfied. ²⁹ Moreover you have multiplied your fornication in the land of Canaan to Chaldea; and yet even with this you were not satisfied. ³⁰ How weak is your heart", said the Lord GOD, "seeing you do all these things, the work of an imperious whorish woman; ³¹ in that you build your eminent place at the head of every road, and make your high place in every street; and have not been as a harlot, in that you scorn hire; ³² but rather as a wife who commits adultery, who takes strangers instead of her husband! ³³ They give gifts to all whores: But you give your gifts to all your lovers, and hire them, that they may come to you on every side for your whoredom. ³⁴ And you are contrary from other women in your whoredoms, in that no one follows you to commit whoredoms: And in that you give a reward, and no reward is given to you, therefore you are contrary." ³⁵ Therefore, O harlot, hear the word of the LORD: ³⁶ Thus says the Lord GOD; "Because your filthiness was poured out, and your nakedness discovered through your whoredoms with your lovers, and with all the idols of your abominations, and by the blood of your children, which you gave to them; ³⁷ behold, therefore I will gather all your lovers, with whom you have taken pleasure, and all those who you have loved, with all those who you have hated; I will even gather them against you on every side, and will uncover your nakedness to them, that they may see all your nakedness. ³⁸ And I will judge you, as women who break wedlock and shed blood are judged; and I will bring blood upon you in fury and jealousy. ³⁹ And I will also give you into their hand, and they shall throw down your eminent place, and shall break down your high places: They shall also strip you of your clothes, and shall take your fair jewels, and leave you naked and bare. ⁴⁰ They shall also bring up a company against you, and they shall stone you with stones, and thrust you through with their swords. ⁴¹ And they shall burn your houses with fire, and execute judgments on you in the sight of many women: And I will cause you to cease from playing the harlot, and also you shall no longer give hire. ⁴² So I will make My fury toward you to rest, and My jealousy shall depart from you, and I will be quiet, and will no longer be angry. ⁴³ Because you have not remembered the days of your youth, but have fretted Me in all these things; behold, therefore I will also recompense your way upon your head", said the Lord GOD: "and you shall not commit this lewdness above all your abominations. ⁴⁴ Behold, everyone who uses proverbs shall use this proverb against you, saying, 'As is the mother, so is her daughter.' ⁴⁵ You are your mother's daughter, who lothes her husband and her children; and you are the sister of your sisters, who loathed their husbands and their children: Your mother was a Hittite, and your father an Amorite. ⁴⁶ And your elder sister is Samaria, she and her daughters who dwell at your left hand: And your younger sister, who dwells at your right hand, is Sodom and her daughters. ⁴⁷ Yet you have not walked after their ways, nor done after their abominations: But, as if that were a very little thing, you were corrupted more than they in all your ways. ⁴⁸ As I live", said the Lord GOD, "Sodom your sister has not done, she nor her daughters, as you have done, you and your daughters. ⁴⁹ Behold, this was the iniquity of your sister Sodom, pride, fullness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy. ⁵⁰ And they were haughty, and committed abomination before Me: Therefore I took them away as I saw good. ⁵¹ Neither has Samaria committed half of your sins; but you have multiplied your abominations more than they, and have justified your sisters in all your abominations which you have done. ⁵² You also, who have judged your sisters, bear your own shame for your sins that you have committed more abominable than they: They are more righteous than you: Yes, be confounded also, and bear your shame, in that you have justified your sisters. ⁵³ When I shall bring their captivity again, the captivity of Sodom and her daughters, and the captivity of Samaria and her daughters, then I will bring back the captivity of your captives in the midst of them: ⁵⁴ That you may bear your own shame, and may be confounded in all that you have done, in that you are a comfort to them. ⁵⁵ When your sisters, Sodom and her daughters, shall return to their former estate, and Samaria and her daughters shall return to their former estate, then you and your daughters shall return to your former estate. ⁵⁶ For your sister Sodom was not mentioned by your mouth in the day of your pride, ⁵⁷ before your wickedness was discovered, as at the time of your reproach of the daughters of Syria, and all who are around her, the daughters of the Philistines, who despise you all around. ⁵⁸ You have borne your lewdness and your abominations", said the LORD. ⁵⁹ For thus says the Lord GOD; "I will even deal with you as you have done, who have despised the oath in breaking the covenant. ⁶⁰ Nevertheless I will remember My covenant with you in the days of your youth, and I will establish to you an everlasting covenant. ⁶¹ Then you shall remember your ways, and be ashamed, when you shall receive your sisters, your elder and your younger: And I will give them to you for daughters, but not by your covenant. ⁶² And I will establish My covenant with you; and you shall know that I am the LORD: ⁶³ That you may remember, and be confounded, and never open your mouth any more because of your shame, when I am pacified toward you for all that you have done", said the Lord GOD.' "

¹ Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying, ² "Now, you son of man, will you judge, will you judge the bloody city? Yes, you shall show her all her abominations. ³ Then say, 'Thus says the Lord GOD, "The city sheds blood in the midst of it, that her time may come, and makes idols against herself to defile herself. ⁴ You have become guilty in your blood that you have shed; and have defiled yourself in your idols which you have made; and you have caused your days to draw near, and have come to the full measure of your years: Therefore I have made you a reproach to the heathen, and a mocking to all countries. ⁵ Those who are near, and those who are far from you shall mock you, you who are infamous and much vexed. ⁶ Behold, the princes of Israel, everyone in you has used their power to shed blood. ⁷ In you they have set light by father and mother: In the midst of you they have dealt with the stranger by oppression: In you they have vexed the fatherless and the widow. ⁸ You have despised My holy things, and have profaned My Sabbaths. ⁹ In you are men who carry tales to shed blood: And in you they eat upon the mountains: In the midst of you they commit lewdness. ¹⁰ In you they have discovered their fathers' nakedness: In you they have humbled her who was set apart for pollution. ¹¹ And one has committed abomination with his neighbor's wife; and another has lewdly defiled his daughter-in-law; and another in you has humbled his sister, his father's daughter. ¹² In you they have taken gifts to shed blood; you have taken usury and increase, and you have greedily gained from your neighbors by extortion, and have forgotten Me", said the Lord GOD. ¹³ "Behold, therefore I have smitten My hand at your dishonest gain which you have made, and at your blood which has been in the midst of you. ¹⁴ Can your heart endure, or can your hands be strong, in the days that I shall deal with you? I the LORD have spoken it, and will do it. ¹⁵ And I will scatter you among the heathen, and disperse you in the countries, and will consume your filthiness out of you. ¹⁶ And you shall take your inheritance in yourself in the sight of the heathen, and you shall know that I am the LORD." ' " ¹⁷ And the word of the LORD came to me, saying, ¹⁸ "Son of man, the house of Israel has become dross to Me: They are brass, and tin, and iron, and lead, in the midst of the furnace; they are even the dross of silver." ¹⁹ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; "Because you have all become dross, behold, therefore I will gather you into the midst of Jerusalem. ²⁰ As they gather silver, and brass, and iron, and lead, and tin, into the middle of the furnace, to blow the fire on it, to melt it; so will I gather you in My anger and in My fury, and I will leave you there, and melt you. ²¹ Yes, I will gather you, and blow on you in the fire of My wrath, and you shall be melted in the midst of it. ²² As silver is melted in the middle of the furnace, so you shall be melted in the midst of it; and you shall know that I the LORD have poured out My fury on you.' " ²³ And the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

¹² Ephraim compasses Me around with lies, and the house of Israel with deceit: But Judah still rules with God, and is faithful with the saints."

² Who hate the good, and love the evil; who pluck off their skin from off them, and their flesh from off their bones; ³ who also eat the flesh of My people, and flay their skin from off them; and they break their bones, and chop them in pieces, as for the pot, and as flesh within the caldron."

¹ Woe to her that is filthy and polluted, to the oppressing city! ² She did not obey the voice; she did not receive correction; she did not trust in the LORD; she did not draw near to her God. ³ Her princes within her are roaring lions; her judges are evening wolves; they do not gnaw the bones until the next day.

³ Thus says the LORD; 'I have returned to Zion, and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: And Jerusalem shall be called a city of truth; and the mountain of the LORD of hosts the holy mountain.'

³⁴ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which kills the prophets, and stones those who are sent to you; how often I would have gathered your children together, as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, but you were not willing!

⁵² Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? And they have slain those which foretold of the coming of the Just One; of whom you now have been the betrayers and murderers:

²² But you have come to Mount Zion, and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels,

² But leave out the court which is outside the temple, and do not measure it; for it is given to the Gentiles: And they shall tread the holy city under foot for forty-two months.

¹ How the gold has become dim! How the most fine gold has changed! The stones of the sanctuary are poured out at the head of every street. ² The precious sons of Zion, comparable to fine gold, how they are esteemed as earthen pitchers, the work of the hands of the potter!

¹⁸ "Son of man, the house of Israel has become dross to Me: They are brass, and tin, and iron, and lead, in the midst of the furnace; they are even the dross of silver." ¹⁹ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; "Because you have all become dross, behold, therefore I will gather you into the midst of Jerusalem. ²⁰ As they gather silver, and brass, and iron, and lead, and tin, into the middle of the furnace, to blow the fire on it, to melt it; so will I gather you in My anger and in My fury, and I will leave you there, and melt you. ²¹ Yes, I will gather you, and blow on you in the fire of My wrath, and you shall be melted in the midst of it. ²² As silver is melted in the middle of the furnace, so you shall be melted in the midst of it; and you shall know that I the LORD have poured out My fury on you.' "

¹⁸ Their drink is sour: They have committed whoredom continually: With shame, her rulers do love it, Give yourself.

⁴ O Ephraim, what shall I do to you? O Judah, what shall I do to you? For your goodness is as a morning cloud, and as the early dew it goes away.

¹⁷ For we are not as many, which corrupt the Word of God: But out of sincerity, but as from God, in the sight of God we speak in Christ.

⁸ And you shall not take a gift: For the gift blinds the wise, and perverts the words of the righteous.the wise: In Hebrew, the seeing

¹⁹ You shall not wrest judgment; you shall not respect persons, neither take a gift: For a gift does blind the eyes of the wise, and pervert the words of the righteous.

¹⁷ Now after the death of Jehoiada came the princes of Judah, and made obeisance to the king. Then the king listened to them. ¹⁸ And they left the house of the LORD God of their fathers, and served groves and idols: And wrath came on Judah and Jerusalem for this their trespass. ¹⁹ Yet he sent prophets to them, to bring them again to the LORD; and they testified against them: But they would not give ear. ²⁰ And the Spirit of God came on Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest, which stood above the people, and said to them, "Thus said God, Why transgress you the commandments of the LORD, that you cannot prosper? Because you have forsaken the LORD, he has also forsaken you. ²¹ And they conspired against him, and stoned him with stones at the commandment of the king in the court of the house of the LORD.

¹⁴ Moreover all the chief of the priests, and the people, transgressed very much after all the abominations of the heathen; and polluted the house of the LORD which he had hallowed in Jerusalem.

²³ A wicked man takes a gift out of the bosom to pervert the ways of judgment.

²⁴ Whoever is partner with a thief hates his own soul: He hears cursing, and does not disclose it.

¹⁴ The LORD will enter into judgment with the ancients of His people, and with their princes: "For you have eaten up the vineyard; the spoil of the poor is in your houses.

¹ Woe to those that decree unrighteous decrees, and that write oppressiveness which they have prescribed; ² to turn aside the needy from judgment, and to take away the right from the poor of my people, that widows may be their prey, and that they may rob the fatherless!

¹⁵ He who walks righteously, and speaks uprightly; he who despises the gain of oppressions, who shakes his hands from holding bribes, who stops his ears from hearing of blood, and shuts his eyes from seeing evil;

²⁸ They are waxen fat, they shine: Yes, they overpass the deeds of the wicked: They do not judge the cause, the cause of the fatherless, yet they prosper; and the right of the needy they do not judge. ²⁹ Shall I not visit for these things?' said the LORD: 'shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?

¹⁷ But your eyes and your heart are not but for your covetousness, and to shed innocent blood, and for oppression, and for violence, to do it.

⁵ we have sinned, and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even by departing from Your precepts and from Your judgments: ⁶ Neither have we hearkened to Your servants the prophets, who spoke in Your name to our princes, our rulers, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land.

³ They make the king glad with their wickedness, and the princes with their lies. ⁴ They are all adulterers, as an oven heated by the baker, who ceases from producing bread after he has kneaded the dough, until it is leavened. ⁵ In the day of our king the princes have made him sick with bottles of wine; he stretched out his hand with scorners.

¹⁵ "All their wickedness is in Gilgal: For there I hated them: I will drive them out of My house for the wickedness of their doings, I will love them no more: All their princes are revolters.

¹ And I said, "Hear, I implore you, O heads of Jacob, and all you princes of the house of Israel; Is it not for you to know judgment?

¹¹ The heads of it judge for reward, and its priests teach for hire, and its prophets divine for money: Yet they will lean upon the LORD, and say, "Is not the LORD among us? No evil can come upon us."

³ That they may do evil with both hands earnestly, the prince asks, and the judge asks for a reward; and the great man, he utters his mischievous desire: So they wrap it up.his mischievous desire: In Hebrew, the mischief of his soul

¹⁰ And do not oppress the widow, nor the fatherless, the stranger, nor the poor; and let none of you imagine evil against his brother in your heart.'

⁵ And I will come near to you to decree judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers, and against those that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger from his rights, and do not fear Me", says the LORD of hosts.

¹³ and said to them, "It is written, 'My house shall be called the house of prayer'; But you have made it a 'den of thieves.' "

¹⁷ Then He taught, saying to them, "Is it not written, 'My house shall be called the house of prayer of all nations'? But you have made it a 'den of thieves.' "

² saying, "There was a judge in a city, who did not fear God, nor regarded man: ³ And there was a widow in that city; and she came to him, saying, 'Avenge me from my adversary.' ⁴ And he would not for a while: But afterward he said within himself, 'Though I do not fear God, nor regard man; ⁵ yet because this widow troubles me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.' "

⁴⁶ saying to them, "It is written, 'My house is the house of prayer': But you have made it a 'den of thieves.' "

⁵ And it came to pass on the next day that their rulers, elders, and scribes, ⁶ and Annas the high priest, Caiaphas, John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred of the high priest, were gathered together at Jerusalem. ⁷ And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, "By what power, or by what name, have you done this?" ⁸ Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, "You rulers of the people, and elders of Israel, ⁹ if we this day are examined for the good deed done to the feeble man, by what means he is made whole; ¹⁰ let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by Him does this man stand here before you whole. ¹¹ This is the 'stone which was set at naught by you builders, which has become the head of the corner.'

⁶³ And it shall come to pass, that as the LORD rejoiced over you to do you good, and to multiply you; so the LORD will rejoice over you to destroy you, and to bring you to nothing; and you shall be plucked from off the land where you go to possess it.

⁴³ Rejoice, O you nations, with his people: For he will avenge the blood of his servants, and will render vengeance to his adversaries, and will be merciful to his land, and to his people.

² How he swore to the LORD, and he vowed to the Mighty God of Jacob;

²⁵ but you have disregarded all my counsel, and would have none of my reproof: ²⁶ I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear comes;

²⁹ You shall have a song, as in the night when a holy solemnity is kept; and gladness of heart, as when one goes with a pipe to come into the mountain of the LORD, to the mighty One of Israel.

⁴ Say to those that are of a fearful heart, "Be strong, fear not: Behold, your God will come with vengeance, even God with a recompense; He will come and save you."

²⁶ And I will feed those who oppress you with their own flesh; and they shall be drunken with their own blood, as with sweet wine: And all flesh shall know that I the LORD am your Savior and your Redeemer, the mighty One of Jacob."

¹⁶ You shall also suck the milk of the Gentiles, and shall suck the breast of kings: And you shall know that I the LORD am your Savior and your Redeemer, the mighty One of Jacob.

² to proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn;

⁴ For the day of vengeance is in my heart, and the year of My redeemed has come.

³⁴ Their Redeemer is strong; the LORD of hosts is His name: He shall thoroughly plead their cause, that He may give rest to the land, and disquiet the inhabitants of Babylon.

¹³ Thus shall My anger be accomplished, and I will cause My fury to rest on them, and I will be comforted: And they shall know that I the LORD have spoken it in My zeal, when I have accomplished My fury in them.

⁴² So I will make My fury toward you to rest, and My jealousy shall depart from you, and I will be quiet, and will no longer be angry.

¹⁷ I will also strike My hands together, and I will cause My fury to rest: I the LORD have said it."

¹³ from then on expecting till His enemies are made His footstool.

⁸ Therefore her plagues shall come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: For strong is the Lord God Who judges her.

²² Your silver has become dross, your wine mixed with water:

¹¹ Then I said, "Lord, how long?" And He answered, "Until the cities are wasted without inhabitant, and the houses without man, and the land is utterly desolate, ¹² and the LORD has removed men far away, and there be a great forsaking in the midst of the land. ¹³ But yet in it shall be a tenth, and it shall return, and shall be consumed: As a teil tree, and as an oak, whose substance is in them, when they cast their leaves: So the holy seed shall be the substance of it."

²⁹ The bellows are burned, the lead is consumed by the fire; the founder melts in vain: For the wicked are not plucked away.

⁷ Therefore thus says the LORD of hosts, "Behold, I will melt them, and try them; for how shall I do for the daughter of My people?

³⁸ And I will purge out the rebels from among you, and those who transgress against Me: I will bring them forth out of the country where they sojourn, and they shall not enter into the land of Israel: And you shall know that I am the LORD.

²⁰ As they gather silver, and brass, and iron, and lead, and tin, into the middle of the furnace, to blow the fire on it, to melt it; so will I gather you in My anger and in My fury, and I will leave you there, and melt you.

²² As silver is melted in the middle of the furnace, so you shall be melted in the midst of it; and you shall know that I the LORD have poured out My fury on you.' "

¹¹ In that day you shall not be ashamed for all your doings, in which you have transgressed against Me: For then I will take away out of the midst of you those that rejoice in your pride, and you shall no longer be haughty because of My holy mountain.

⁷ "Awake, O sword, against My shepherd, and against the man that is My fellow", says the LORD of hosts: "Smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered: And I will turn My hand upon the little ones.

³ And He shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: And He shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer to the LORD an offering in righteousness.

¹² Whose fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly purge His floor, and gather His wheat into the granary; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire."

¹⁹ As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: Therefore be zealous, and repent.

³ (Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were on the face of the earth).

¹⁵ And Moses was very wroth, and said to the LORD, Respect not you their offering: I have not taken one donkey from them, neither have I hurt one of them.

² And now, behold, the king walks before you: And I am old and gray headed; and behold, my sons are with you: And I have walked before you from my childhood to this day. ³ Behold, here I am: Witness against me before the LORD, and before his anointed: Whose ox have I taken? Or whose donkey have I taken? Or whom have I defrauded? Whom have I oppressed? Or from whose hand have I received any bribe to blind my eyes with it? And I will restore it to you. ⁴ And they said, "You have not defrauded us, nor oppressed us, neither have you taken anything owed from any man's hand." ⁵ And he said to them, "The LORD is witness against you, and His anointed is witness this day, that you have not found anything in my hand." And they answered, "He is witness."

²¹ How has the faithful city become a harlot! It was full of judgment; righteousness lodged in it; but now murderers.

¹ Behold, a king shall reign in righteousness, and princes shall rule in judgment. ² And a man shall be like a hiding place from the wind, and a covert from the tempest; as rivers of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a great rock in a weary land.

⁵ The LORD is exalted; for He dwells on high: He has filled Zion with judgment and righteousness.

¹⁴ Also the sons of those who afflicted you shall come bending to you; and all those who despised you shall bow themselves down at the soles of your feet; and they shall call you; The city of the LORD, The Zion of the Holy One of Israel.

¹⁷ For brass I will bring gold, and for iron I will bring silver, and for wood, brass, and for stones, iron: I will also appoint peace as your officers, and righteousness as your exactors. ¹⁸ Violence shall no longer be heard in your land, neither wasting nor destruction within your borders; but you shall call your walls Salvation, and your gates Praise.

²¹ Your people shall all be righteous also: They shall inherit the land forever, the branch of My planting, the work of My hands, that I may be glorified.

¹ For Zion's sake I will not hold My peace, and for Jerusalem's sake I will not rest, until its righteousness goes forth as brightness, and her salvation as a lamp that burns. ² And the Gentiles shall see your righteousness, and all kings your glory: And you shall be called by a new name, which the mouth of the LORD shall name.

²³ Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; "As yet they shall use this speech in the land of Judah and in its cities, when I shall bring back their captivity; 'The LORD bless you, O habitation of justice, and mountain of holiness.'

⁷ And I will cause the captivity of Judah and the captivity of Israel to return, and will build them, as at the first.

¹¹ the voice of joy, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride, the voice of those that shall say, "Praise the LORD of hosts: For the LORD is good; for his mercy endures forever": And of those that shall bring the sacrifice of praise into the house of the LORD. For I will cause to return the captivity of the land, as at the first', said the LORD.

¹⁵ In those days, and at that time, I will cause the Branch of righteousness to grow up to David; and he shall execute judgment and righteousness in the land. ¹⁶ In those days Judah shall be saved, and Jerusalem shall dwell safely: And this is the name with which she shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.' ¹⁷ For thus says the LORD; 'David shall never want a man to sit on the throne of the house of Israel;

²³ And I will set up one shepherd over them, and he shall feed them, even My servant David; he shall feed them, and he shall be their shepherd. ²⁴ And I the LORD will be their God, and My servant David a prince among them; I the LORD have spoken it.

²⁴ And David My servant shall be king over them; and they shall all have one shepherd: They shall also walk in My judgments, and observe My statutes, and do them. ²⁵ And they shall dwell in the land that I have given to Jacob My servant, in which your fathers have dwelled; and they shall dwell in it, even they and their children, and their children's children forever: And My servant David shall be their prince forever.

⁸ His possession shall be in the land of Israel: And My princes shall no longer oppress My people; and they shall give the rest of the land to the house of Israel according to their tribes."

⁹ For then I will turn the people to a pure language, that they may all call upon the name of the LORD, to serve Him with one consent.

¹³ The remnant of Israel shall not do iniquity, nor speak lies; neither shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth: For they shall feed and lie down, and no one shall make them afraid.

⁸ and I will bring them, and they shall dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: And they shall be My people, and I will be their God, in truth and in righteousness.'

²⁷ And there shall in no case enter into it anything that defiles, neither anything that works abomination, or makes a lie: But those which are written in the Lamb's Book of Life.

¹⁶ But the LORD of hosts shall be exalted in judgment, and God who is holy shall be sanctified in righteousness.

²¹ All of you tell, and bring them near; yes, let them take counsel together: Who has declared this from ancient times? Who has told it from that time? Have I not, the LORD? And there is no God besides Me; a just God and a Savior; there is none besides me. ²² Look to Me, and you will be saved, all the ends of the earth: For I am God, and there is none other. ²³ I have sworn by Myself, the word has gone out of My mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That to Me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear an oath. ²⁴ Surely, one shall say, 'In the LORD I have righteousness and strength': Even to Him men shall come; and all that are incensed against Him shall be ashamed. ²⁵ In the LORD all the seed of Israel shall be justified, and shall glory.' "

¹² And they shall call them, The holy people, The redeemed of the LORD: And you shall be called, Sought out, A city not forsaken.

²⁴ being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: ²⁵ Whom God has set out to be a propitiation through faith in His blood, to declare His righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; ²⁶ to declare, I say, at this time His righteousness: That He might be just, and the justifier of him that believes in Jesus.

²⁶ And so all Israel shall be saved: As it is written, "There shall come out of Zion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob: ²⁷ For this is My covenant to them, when I shall take away their sins."

³⁰ But by reason of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who of God is made to us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:

²¹ For He has made Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.

¹⁴ who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify to Himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

¹⁸ Consider that as you know you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; ¹⁹ but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

⁶ But if you shall at all turn from following me, you or your children, and will not keep My commandments and My statutes which I have set before you, but go and serve other gods, and worship them: ⁷ Then will I cut off Israel out of the land which I have given them; and this house, which I have hallowed for my name, will I cast out of my sight; and Israel shall be a proverb and a byword among all people: ⁸ And at this house, which is high, everyone that passes by it shall be astonished, and shall hiss; and they shall say, "Why has the LORD done thus to this land, and to this house? ⁹ And they shall answer, Because they forsook the LORD their God, who brought forth their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and have taken hold on other gods, and have worshiped them, and served them: Therefore has the LORD brought on them all this evil.

⁹ And you, Solomon my son, know you the God of your father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind: For the LORD searches all hearts, and understands all the imaginations of the thoughts: If you seek him, he will be found of you; but if you forsake him, he will cast you off forever.

³ Is not destruction to the wicked? And a strange punishment to the workers of iniquity?

⁶ For the LORD knows the way of the righteous: But the way of the ungodly shall perish.

⁶ You shall destroy those that speak lies: The LORD will abhor the bloody and deceitful man.

⁵ You have rebuked the heathen, You have destroyed the wicked, You have put out their name forever and ever.

³⁸ But the transgressors shall be destroyed together: The end of the wicked shall be cut off.

²⁷ For lo, those that are far from You shall perish: You have destroyed all those that go a whoring from You.

⁹ For lo, Your enemies, O LORD, for lo, Your enemies shall perish; all the workers of iniquity shall be scattered.

³⁵ Let the sinners be consumed out of the earth, and let the wicked be no more. Bless the LORD, O my soul. Praise the LORD!

⁵ As for such as turn aside to their crooked ways, the LORD shall lead them away with the workers of iniquity: But peace shall be upon Israel.

¹ He, that often being reproved hardens his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.

¹³ Therefore this iniquity shall be to you as a breach ready to fall, swelling out in a high wall, whose breaking comes suddenly in an instant."

¹¹ Behold, all you that kindle a fire, that compass yourselves about with sparks: Walk in the light of your fire, and in the sparks that you have kindled. This you shall have from My hand; you shall lie down in sorrow."

¹¹ But you are those who forsake the LORD, who forget My holy mountain, who prepare a table for that troop, and who furnish the drink offering to that number.

²⁴ "And they shall go forth, and look on the carcasses of the men that have transgressed against Me: For their worm shall not die, neither shall their fire be quenched; and they shall be an abhorring to all flesh."

⁴ "I will also stretch out My hand upon Judah, and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and I will cut off the remnant of Baal from this place, and the name of the Chemarims with the priests; ⁵ and those that worship the host of heaven upon the housetops; and those that worship and that swear by the LORD, and that swear by Malcham; ⁶ and those that are turned back from the LORD; and those that have not sought the LORD, nor inquired for Him."

⁴⁵ But then, if that servant says in his heart, 'My lord delays his coming'; and begins to beat the menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and be drunk; ⁴⁶ the lord of that servant shall come on a day when he is not looking for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in two, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers.

³ For when they shall say, "Peace and safety"; then sudden destruction comes upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

⁸ in flaming fire taking vengeance on those that do not know God, and that do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: ⁹ Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of His power;

⁷ But the heavens and the earth, which are now kept in store by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

⁸ But the fearful, unbelieving, the abominable, murderers, whoremongers, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone: Which is the second death."

²² You shall also defile the covering of your graven images of silver, and the ornament of your molten images of gold: You shall cast them away as a menstruous cloth; you shall say to it, 'Be gone.' "

⁷ For in that day every man shall cast away his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which your own hands have made for you for a sin.

¹⁶ They shall be ashamed, and also confounded, all of them: They who are makers of idols shall go into confusion together.

⁵ inflaming yourselves with idols under every green tree, slaying the children in the valleys under the clefts of the rocks?

¹⁷ "They who sanctify themselves, and purify themselves in the gardens behind one tree in the middle, eating swine's flesh, and the abomination, and the mouse, shall be consumed together", said the LORD.

²⁰ "For from old times I have broken your yoke, and burst your bands; and you said, 'I will not transgress'; when on every high hill and under every green tree you wander, playing the harlot.

⁶ The LORD also said to me in the days of Josiah the king, "Have you seen that which backsliding Israel has done? She has gone up on every high mountain and under every green tree, and there has played the harlot.

¹³ Then you shall know that I am the LORD, when their slain men shall be among their idols around their altars, on every high hill, in all the tops of the mountains, and under every green tree, and under every thick oak, the place where they offered sweet smell to all their idols.

⁶³ That you may remember, and be confounded, and never open your mouth any more because of your shame, when I am pacified toward you for all that you have done", said the Lord GOD.' "

³¹ Then you shall remember your own evil ways, and your doings that were not good, and shall loathe yourselves in your own sight for your iniquities and for your abominations.

¹³ They sacrifice upon the tops of the mountains, and burn incense upon the hills, under oaks and poplars and elms, because its shadow is good: Therefore your daughters shall commit whoredom, and your spouses shall commit adultery.

³ Asshur shall not save us; we will not ride upon horses: Neither will we say any more to the work of our hands, 'You are our gods': For in You the fatherless finds mercy."

⁸ Ephraim shall say, 'What have I to do with idols any more?' I have heard him, and observed him: I am like a green fir tree. From Me your fruit is found."

²¹ What fruit did you have then in those things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death.

⁶ And I will lay it waste: It shall not be pruned, nor dug; but there shall come up briers and thorns: I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain on it.

¹¹ And the LORD shall guide you continually, and satisfy your soul in drought, and make your bones fat: And you shall be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.

⁵ Thus says the LORD; "Cursed is the man that trusts in man, and makes flesh the arm of his strength, and whose heart departs from the LORD. ⁶ For he shall be like the shrub in the desert, and shall not see when good comes; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land that is not inhabited.

¹² Therefore they shall come and sing in the height of Zion, and shall flow together to the goodness of the LORD, for wheat, and for wine, and for oil, and for the young of the flock and of the herd: And their soul shall be as a watered garden; and they shall not sorrow any more at all.

⁹ Say, 'Thus says the Lord GOD; "Shall it prosper? Shall He not pull up its roots, and cut off its fruit, that it wither? It shall wither in all the leaves of her spring, even without great power or many people to pluck it up by its roots. ¹⁰ Yes, behold, being planted, shall it prosper? Shall it not utterly wither, when the east wind touches it? It shall wither in the furrows where it grew." ' "

²⁴ And all the trees of the field shall know that I the LORD have brought down the high tree, have exalted the low tree, have dried up the green tree, and have made the dry tree to flourish: I the LORD have spoken and have done it."

⁴ The waters made him great, the deep set him up on high with her rivers running around his plants, and sent her little rivers to all the trees of the field. ⁵ Therefore his height was exalted above all the trees of the field, and his boughs were multiplied, and his branches became long because of the multitude of waters, when he shot forth. ⁶ All the fowls of heaven made their nests in his boughs, and under his branches all the wild beasts of the field brought forth their young, and under his shadow all great nations dwelled. ⁷ Thus he was fair in his greatness, in the length of his branches: For his root was by great waters. ⁸ The cedars in the garden of God could not hide him: The fir trees were not like his boughs, and the chestnut trees were not like his branches; nor any tree in the garden of God was like him in his beauty. ⁹ I have made him fair by the multitude of his branches: So that all the trees of Eden, that were in the garden of God, envied him.' ¹⁰ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; 'Because you have lifted yourself up in height, and he has shot up his top among the thick boughs, and his heart is lifted up in his height; ¹¹ I have therefore delivered him into the hand of the mighty one of the heathen; he shall surely deal with him: I have driven him out for his wickedness. ¹² And strangers, the terrible of the nations, have cut him off, and have left him: On the mountains and in all the valleys his branches are fallen, and his boughs are broken by all the rivers of the land; and all the people of the earth have gone down from his shadow, and have left him. ¹³ All the fowls of the heaven shall remain on his ruin, and all the wild beasts of the field shall be on his branches: ¹⁴ To the end that none of all the trees by the waters exalt themselves for their height, neither shoot up their top among the thick boughs, neither their trees stand up in their height, all who drink water: For they are all delivered to death, to the lower parts of the earth, in the midst of the children of men, with those who go down to the pit.' ¹⁵ Thus says the Lord GOD; 'In the day when he went down to the grave I caused a mourning: I covered the deep for him, and I restrained its floods, and the great waters were stayed: And I caused Lebanon to mourn for him, and all the trees of the field fainted for him. ¹⁶ I made the nations shake at the sound of his fall, when I cast him down to hell with those who descend into the pit: And all the trees of Eden, the choice and best of Lebanon, all that drink water, shall be comforted in the lower parts of the earth. ¹⁷ They also went down into hell with him to those who were slain with the sword; and they who were his arm, who dwelled under his shadow in the midst of the heathen. ¹⁸ To whom are you thus like in glory and in greatness among the trees of Eden? Yet you shall be brought down with the trees of Eden to the lower parts of the earth: You shall lie in the midst of the uncircumcised with those who are slain by the sword. This is Pharaoh and all his multitude', said the Lord GOD."

¹⁹ And when He saw a fig tree beside the road, He came to it, and found nothing on it except leaves only, and said to it, "Let no fruit grow on you from this time forward forever." And immediately the fig tree withered away.

¹⁴ And when he came to Lehi, the Philistines shouted against him: And the Spirit of the LORD came mightily upon him, and the cords that were upon his arms became as flax that was burnt with fire, and his bands loosed from off his hands.

¹⁹ Through the wrath of the LORD of hosts the land is darkened, and the people shall be as the fuel of the fire: No man shall spare his brother.

¹¹ LORD, when Your hand is lifted up, they will not see: But they shall see, and be ashamed for their envy of the people; yes, the fire of Your enemies shall devour them.

⁴ Fury is not in Me: Who would set the briers and thorns against Me in battle? I would go through them, I would burn them together.

¹⁴ The sinners in Zion are afraid; fearfulness has surprised the hypocrites. Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire? Who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings?

⁹ And the streams of it shall be turned into pitch, and the dust of it into brimstone, and the land of it shall become burning pitch. ¹⁰ It shall not be quenched night nor day; the smoke of it shall go up forever: From generation to generation it shall lie waste; none shall pass through it forever and ever.

¹⁷ who brings forth the chariot and horse, the army and the power; they shall lie down together, they shall not rise: They are extinct, they are quenched as wick.

⁴⁷ and say to the forest of the south, 'Hear the word of the LORD; Thus says the Lord GOD; "Behold, I will kindle a fire in you, and it shall devour every green tree in you, and every dry tree: The blazing flame shall not be quenched, and all faces from the south to the north shall be burned in it. ⁴⁸ And all flesh shall see that I the LORD have kindled it: It shall not be quenched." ' "

²¹ The strong among the mighty shall speak to him out of the midst of hell with those who help him: 'they have gone down, they lie uncircumcised, slain by the sword.'

¹ "For behold, the day comes, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yes, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: And the day that comes shall burn them up", says the LORD of hosts, "that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.

¹⁰ And even now the axe is laid to the root of the trees: Therefore every tree which does not bring forth good fruit is hewed down, and cast into the fire.

⁴³ And if your hand causes you to offend, cut it off: It is better for you to enter into life maimed, than to go into hell having two hands, into the fire that shall never be quenched: ⁴⁴ Where 'Their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.' ⁴⁵ And if your foot causes you to offend, cut it off: It is better for you to enter into life crippled, than to be cast into hell having two feet, into the fire that shall never be quenched: ⁴⁶ Where 'Their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.' ⁴⁷ And if your eye causes you to offend, pluck it out: It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye, than to be cast into hell fire having two eyes: ⁴⁸ Where 'Their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.' ⁴⁹ For everyone shall be seasoned with fire, and every sacrifice shall be seasoned with salt.

¹⁴ And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. ¹⁵ And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; ¹⁶ and said to the mountains and rocks, "Fall on us, and hide us from the face of Him that sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: ¹⁷ For the great day of His wrath has come; and who shall be able to stand?"

¹⁰ the same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of His indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: ¹¹ And the smoke of their torment ascends up forever and ever: And they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name."

²⁰ And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that worked miracles before him, with which he deceived those that had received the mark of the beast, and those that worshiped his image. These two were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.

¹⁰ And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night forever and ever.
