²⁰ The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, and shall be removed like a cottage; and the transgression of it shall be heavy upon it; and it shall fall, and not rise again.

⁴ For my iniquities have gone over my head: As a heavy burden they are too heavy for me.

²⁷ They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wits' end.

⁸ And the daughter of Zion is left as a cottage in a vineyard, as a lodge in a garden of cucumbers, as a besieged city.

²⁸ And the destruction of the transgressors and of the sinners shall be together, and those that forsake the LORD shall be consumed.

⁷ For the vineyard of the LORD of hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah His pleasant plant: And He looked for judgment, but behold oppression; for righteousness, but behold a cry. ⁸ Woe to those that join house to house, that lay field to field, till there be no place, that they may be placed alone in the midst of the land! ⁹ In My ears said the LORD of hosts, "Truly, many houses shall be desolate, even great and fair looking ones, without inhabitant. ¹⁰ Yes, ten acres of vineyard shall yield one bath, and the seed of a homer shall yield an ephah. ¹¹ Woe to those that rise up early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink; who continue until night, till wine inflames them! ¹² And the harp, and the viol, the tambourine, and pipe, and wine, are in their feasts: But they do not regard the work of the LORD, neither consider the operation of His hands. ¹³ Therefore My people have gone into captivity, because they have no knowledge: And their honorable men are famished, and their multitude dried up with thirst. ¹⁴ Therefore hell has enlarged herself, and opened her mouth without measure: And their glory, and their multitude, and their pomp, and he that rejoices, shall descend into it. ¹⁵ And the contemptible man shall be brought down, and the mighty man shall be humbled, and the eyes of the lofty shall be humbled: ¹⁶ But the LORD of hosts shall be exalted in judgment, and God who is holy shall be sanctified in righteousness. ¹⁷ Then shall the lambs feed after their manner, and strangers shall eat the desolate places of the rich ones. ¹⁸ Woe to those that draw iniquity with cords of vanity, and sin as it were with a cart rope: ¹⁹ That say, "Let him make speed, and hasten his work, that we may see it: And let the counsel of the Holy One of Israel draw near and come, that we may know it!" ²⁰ Woe to those that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! ²¹ Woe to those that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight! ²² Woe to those that are mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mingle strong drink: ²³ Who justify the wicked for a bribe, and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him! ²⁴ Therefore as the fire devours the stubble, and the flame consumes the chaff, so their root shall be as rottenness, and their blossom shall go up as dust: Because they have cast away the law of the LORD of hosts, and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel. ²⁵ Therefore the anger of the LORD is kindled against His people, and He has stretched forth His hand against them, and has smitten them: And the hills did tremble, and their carcasses were torn in the middle of the streets. For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is outstretched still. ²⁶ And He will lift up an ensign to the nations from far, and will hiss to them from the end of the earth: And behold, they shall come swiftly with speed: ²⁷ None shall be weary nor stumble among them; none shall slumber nor sleep; neither shall the girdle of their loins be loosed, nor the lace of their shoes be broken: ²⁸ Whose arrows are sharp, and all their bows bent, their horses' hoofs shall be counted like flint, and their wheels like a whirlwind: ²⁹ Their roaring shall be like a lion, they shall roar like young lions: Yes, they shall roar, and lay hold of the prey, and shall carry it away safe, and none shall deliver it. ³⁰ And in that day they shall roar against them like the roaring of the sea: And if one look to the land, behold darkness and sorrow, and the light is darkened in its heavens.

¹⁴ The LORD has mingled a perverse spirit in the midst of it: And they have caused Egypt to err in every work of it, as a drunken man staggers in his vomit.

⁹ Stop yourselves, and wonder; cry out, and cry: They are drunken, but not with wine; they stagger, but not with strong drink.

¹² My age is departed, and is removed from me as a shepherd's tent: I have cut off my life like a weaver: He will cut me off with pining sickness: From day even to night You will make an end of me.

²⁷ Your first father has sinned, and your teachers have transgressed against Me.

⁴ Moreover you shall say to them, "Thus says the LORD; 'Shall they fall, and not arise? Shall he turn away, and not return?'

²⁷ "Therefore you shall say to them, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; "Drink all of you, and be drunken, and spew, and fall, and rise no more, because of the sword which I will send among you." '

¹⁴ The yoke of my transgressions is bound by His hand: They are wreathed, and come up on my neck: He has made my strength to fall, the LORD has delivered me into their hands, from whom I am not able to rise up.

¹⁹ Then he shall turn his face toward the fort of his own land: But he shall stumble and fall, and not be found.

¹ Hear the word of the LORD, you children of Israel: For the LORD has a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land. ² By swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, they break out, and blood touches blood. ³ Therefore the land shall mourn, and everyone that dwells in it shall languish, with the wild beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven; yes, the fish of the sea also shall be taken away. ⁴ Yet let no man strive, nor reprove another: For your people are as those that strive with the priest. ⁵ Therefore you shall fall in the day, and the prophet shall also fall with you in the night, and I will destroy your mother.

⁵ Then the angel that talked with me went forth, and said to me, "Now lift up your eyes, and see what is this that goes forth." ⁶ And I said, "What is it?" And he said, "This is an ephah that goes forth." Moreover he said, "This is their resemblance through all the earth."ephah; or, diverse measure ⁷ And behold, there was lifted up a talent of lead: And this is a woman that sits in the middle of the ephah.1 Hebrew talent of lead weighed 125 pounds, or ~56.7 kilograms; per Easton's Illustrated Bible Dictionary, Appendix VI. ⁸ And he said, "This is wickedness." And he cast it into the middle of the ephah; and he cast the weight of lead upon the mouth of it.

³⁵ That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom you slew between the temple and the altar. ³⁶ Truly I say to you, All these things shall come upon this generation.

²¹ And a mighty angel took up a stone like a large millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, "Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all.
