¹ Woe to those that decree unrighteous decrees, and that write oppressiveness which they have prescribed; ² to turn aside the needy from judgment, and to take away the right from the poor of my people, that widows may be their prey, and that they may rob the fatherless! ³ And what will all of you do in the day of visitation, and in the desolation which shall come from afar? To whom will you flee for help? And where will you leave your glory? ⁴ Without Me they shall bow down under the prisoners, and they shall fall under the slain. For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is outstretched still. ⁵ O Assyrian, the rod of My anger, and the staff in their hand is My indignation. ⁶ I will send him against a hypocritical nation, and I will give him a charge against the people of my wrath, to take the spoil, and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire in the streets. ⁷ However, he does not mean so, neither does his heart think so; but it is in his heart to destroy and cut off not a few nations. ⁸ For he said, "Are not my princes altogether kings?" ⁹ Is not Calno as Carchemish? Is not Hamath as Arpad? Is not Samaria as Damascus? ¹⁰ As my hand has found the kingdoms of the idols, and whose graven images did excel them of Jerusalem and of Samaria; ¹¹ shall I not, as I have done to Samaria and her idols, do so to Jerusalem and her idols? ¹² Therefore it shall come to pass, that when the Lord has performed His whole work upon Mount Zion and on Jerusalem, I will punish the fruit of the stout heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of his high looks. ¹³ For he said, "By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my wisdom; for I am prudent: And I have removed the bounds of the people, and have robbed their treasures, and I have put down the inhabitants like a valiant man: ¹⁴ And my hand has found as a nest the riches of the people: And as one gathers eggs that are left, have I gathered all the earth; and there was none that moved the wing, or opened the mouth, or peeped." ¹⁵ Shall the ax boast itself against him who chops with it? Or shall the saw magnify itself against him that shakes it? As if the rod should shake itself against those that lift it up, or as if the staff should lift itself up, as if it were not wood. ¹⁶ Therefore shall the Lord, the Lord of hosts, send among his fat ones leanness; and under his glory He shall kindle a burning like the burning of a fire. ¹⁷ And the light of Israel shall be for a fire, and his Holy One for a flame: And it shall burn and devour his thorns and his briers in one day; ¹⁸ and shall consume the glory of his forest, and of his fruitful field, both soul and body: And they shall be as when a standard-bearer faints. ¹⁹ And the rest of the trees of his forest shall be few, that a child may list them. ²⁰ And it shall come to pass in that day, that the remnant of Israel, and such as have escaped of the house of Jacob, shall lean no more again on him that smote them; but shall lean on the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, in truth. ²¹ The remnant shall return, even the remnant of Jacob, to the mighty God. ²² For though your people Israel are as the sand of the sea, yet a remnant of them shall return: The decreed destruction shall overflow with righteousness. ²³ For the Lord GOD of hosts shall even make a determined consumption in the midst of all the land. ²⁴ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD of hosts, "O My people that dwell in Zion, do not be afraid of the Assyrian: He shall smite you with a rod, and shall lift up his staff against you, after the manner of Egypt. ²⁵ For yet a very little while, and the indignation shall cease, and My anger in their destruction. ²⁶ And the LORD of hosts shall stir up a whip for him according to the slaughter of Midian at the rock of Oreb: And as His rod was on the sea, so shall He lift it up after the manner of Egypt. ²⁷ And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off your shoulder, and his yoke from off your neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing. ²⁸ He has come to Aiath, he has passed to Migron; at Michmash he has laid up his carriages: ²⁹ They have gone over the passage: They have taken up their lodging at Geba; Ramah is afraid; Gibeah of Saul has fled. ³⁰ Lift up your voice, O daughter of Gallim: Cause it to be heard to Laish, O poor Anathoth. ³¹ Madmenah is removed; the inhabitants of Gebim gather themselves to flee. ³² As yet he shall remain at Nob that day: He shall shake his hand against the mount of the daughter of Zion, the hill of Jerusalem. ³³ Behold, the Lord, the LORD of hosts, shall lop the bough with terror: And the high ones of stature shall be hewn down, and the haughty shall be humbled. ³⁴ And He shall cut down the thickets of the forest with iron, and Lebanon shall fall by a Mighty One.

¹³ And there came in two men, children of Belial, and sat before him: And the men of Belial witnessed against him, even against Naboth, in the presence of the people, saying, "Naboth did blaspheme God and the king. Then they carried him forth out of the city, and stoned him with stones, that he died.

¹⁰ And the king took his ring from his hand, and gave it to Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, the Jews' enemy. ¹¹ And the king said to Haman, "The silver is given to you, the people also, to do with them as it seems good to you." ¹² Then the king's scribes were called on the thirteenth day of the first month, and there was written according to all that Haman had commanded to the king's lieutenants, and to the governors that were over every province, and to the rulers of every people of every province according to the writing of it, and to every people after their language; in the name of king Ahasuerus it was written, and sealed with the king's ring. ¹³ And the letters were sent by posts into all the king's provinces, to destroy, to kill, and to cause to perish, all Jews, both young and old, little children and women, in one day, even on the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar, and to take the spoil of them for a prey.

² Yes, in heart you work wickedness; you weigh the violence of your hands in the earth.

²⁰ Shall the throne of iniquity have fellowship with You, those which frame mischief by a law? ²¹ They gather themselves together against the soul of the righteous, and condemn the innocent blood.

¹¹ Woe to the wicked! It shall be ill with him: For the reward of his hands shall be given him.

⁸ Woe to those that join house to house, that lay field to field, till there be no place, that they may be placed alone in the midst of the land!

¹¹ Woe to those that rise up early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink; who continue until night, till wine inflames them!

¹⁸ Woe to those that draw iniquity with cords of vanity, and sin as it were with a cart rope:

²⁰ Woe to those that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! ²¹ Woe to those that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight! ²² Woe to those that are mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mingle strong drink:

¹³ Woe to him who builds his house by unrighteousness, and his chambers by wrong; who uses his neighbor's service without wages, and gives him nothing for his work;

⁸ Now, O king, establish the decree, and sign the writing, that it be not changed, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which does not alter." ⁹ Therefore king Darius signed the writing and the decree.

¹ And I said, "Hear, I implore you, O heads of Jacob, and all you princes of the house of Israel; Is it not for you to know judgment? ² Who hate the good, and love the evil; who pluck off their skin from off them, and their flesh from off their bones; ³ who also eat the flesh of My people, and flay their skin from off them; and they break their bones, and chop them in pieces, as for the pot, and as flesh within the caldron." ⁴ Then they shall cry to the LORD, but He will not hear them: He will even hide His face from them at that time, as they have behaved themselves badly in their doings.

⁹ Hear this, I implore you, all you heads of the house of Jacob, and princes of the house of Israel, that abhor judgment, and pervert all equity. ¹⁰ They build up Zion with blood, and Jerusalem with iniquity. ¹¹ The heads of it judge for reward, and its priests teach for hire, and its prophets divine for money: Yet they will lean upon the LORD, and say, "Is not the LORD among us? No evil can come upon us."

¹⁶ For the statutes of Omri are kept, and all the works of the house of Ahab, and you walk in their counsels; that I should make you a desolation, and its inhabitants a hissing: Therefore all of you shall bear the reproach of My people."

⁶ Shall not all these take up a parable against him, and a taunting proverb against him, and say, 'Woe to him that increases that which is not his! How long? And woe to him that lades himself with thick clay!'?

⁹ Woe to him that covets an evil covetousness to establish his house, that he may set his nest on high, that he may be delivered from the power of evil!

¹² Woe to him that builds a town with blood, and establishes a city by iniquity!

¹⁵ Woe to him that gives his neighbor drink, that puts your bottle to him, and also makes him drunk, that you may look on their nakedness!

¹⁹ Woe to him that says to the wood, 'Awake'; to the dumb stone, 'Arise, it shall teach!' Behold, it is laid over with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in the midst of it.

²¹ Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.

¹³ But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: For you neither go in yourselves, nor do you permit those who are entering to go in. ¹⁴ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you devour widows' houses, and for a show make long prayers: Therefore you shall receive the greater damnation. ¹⁵ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, you make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves. ¹⁶ Woe to you, you blind guides, who say, 'Whoever swears by the temple, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gold of the temple, he is obligated!'

²³ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law; judgment, mercy, and faith: These you ought to have done, and not leave the others undone.

²⁷ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are similar to whitened sepulchers, which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness.

²⁹ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you build the tombs of the prophets, and adorn the sepulchers of the righteous,

²⁴ The Son of Man goes as it is written of Him; but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been good for that man if he had not been born."

⁴² But woe to you, Pharisees! For you tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God: These you ought to have done, and not left the others undone. ⁴³ Woe to you, Pharisees! For you love the uppermost seats in the synagogues, and greetings in the markets. ⁴⁴ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are as graves which are not visible, and the men that walk over them are not aware of them."

⁴⁶ And He said, "Woe to you also, you lawyers! For you load men with burdens grievous to bear, and you yourselves do not touch the burdens with one of your fingers. ⁴⁷ Woe to you! For you build the sepulchers of the prophets, and your fathers killed them.

⁵² Woe to you, lawyers! For you have taken away the key of knowledge: You did not enter in yourselves, and you hindered those that were entering in."

²² His parents spoke these words because they feared the Jews: For the Jews had agreed already, that if any man confessed that He was Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue.

⁶ Therefore when the chief priests and officers saw Him, they cried out, saying, "Crucify Him, crucify Him." Pilate said to them, "You take Him, and crucify Him: For I find no fault in Him."

¹¹ Woe to them! For they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the contrariety of Korah.

²³ Your princes are rebellious, and companions of thieves: Everyone loves gifts, and follows after rewards: They do not judge the fatherless, neither does the cause of the widow come to them.

¹⁴ The LORD will enter into judgment with the ancients of His people, and with their princes: "For you have eaten up the vineyard; the spoil of the poor is in your houses.

⁷ For the vineyard of the LORD of hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah His pleasant plant: And He looked for judgment, but behold oppression; for righteousness, but behold a cry.

²³ Who justify the wicked for a bribe, and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him!

²¹ That make a man an offender for a word, and lay a snare for him that reproves in the gate, and turn aside the just for a thing of nothing.

⁶ if you do not oppress the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and do not shed innocent blood in this place, neither walk after other gods to your hurt:

³⁵ To turn aside the right of a man before the face of the Most High,

⁷ In you they have set light by father and mother: In the midst of you they have dealt with the stranger by oppression: In you they have vexed the fatherless and the widow.

⁷ that pant after the dust of the earth on the head of the poor, and turn aside the way of the meek: And a man and his father will go in to the same maid, to profane My holy name:

¹¹ Therefore, as much as your treading is upon the poor, and you take burdens of wheat from him: You have built houses of hewn stone, but you shall not dwell in them; you have planted pleasant vineyards, but you shall not drink wine from them. ¹² For I know your manifold transgressions and your mighty sins: They afflict the just, they take a bribe, and they turn aside the poor in the gate from their rights.

⁵ And I will come near to you to decree judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers, and against those that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger from his rights, and do not fear Me", says the LORD of hosts.

¹³ But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: For you neither go in yourselves, nor do you permit those who are entering to go in.

¹ And he heard the words of Laban's sons, saying, "Jacob has taken away all that was our father's; and of that which was our father's he has gotten all this glory."

⁴⁹ The LORD shall bring a nation against you from far, from the end of the earth, as swift as the eagle flies; a nation whose tongue you shall not understand;

⁶ For the LORD had made the host of the Syrians to hear a noise of chariots, and a noise of horses, even the noise of a great host: And they said one to another, See, the king of Israel has hired against us the kings of the Hittites, and the kings of the Egyptians, to come on us. ⁷ Why they arose and fled in the twilight, and left their tents, and their horses, and their donkeys, even the camp as it was, and fled for their life. ⁸ And when these lepers came to the uttermost part of the camp, they went into one tent, and ate and drink, and carried there silver, and gold, and clothing, and went and hid it; and came again, and entered into another tent, and carried there also, and went and hid it.

¹⁵ And they went after them to Jordan: And lo, all the way was full of garments and vessels, which the Syrians had cast away in their haste. And the messengers returned, and told the king.

¹⁴ what then shall I do when God rises up? And when he visits, what shall I answer him?

¹⁶ Do not be afraid when one is made rich, when the glory of his house is increased; ¹⁷ for when he dies he shall carry nothing away: His glory shall not descend after him.

⁴ Riches do not profit in the day of wrath: But righteousness delivers from death.

²⁰ In that day a man shall cast his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which they made each one for himself to worship, to the moles and to the bats; ²¹ to go into the clefts of the rocks, and into the tops of the ragged rocks, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of His majesty, when He rises to shake terribly the earth.

¹⁴ Therefore hell has enlarged herself, and opened her mouth without measure: And their glory, and their multitude, and their pomp, and he that rejoices, shall descend into it.

²⁶ And He will lift up an ensign to the nations from far, and will hiss to them from the end of the earth: And behold, they shall come swiftly with speed:

⁶ And the inhabitant of this isle shall say in that day, 'Behold, such is our expectation, wherever we flee for help to be delivered from the king of Assyria: And how shall we escape?' "

²¹ For, behold, the LORD comes out of His place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity: The earth also shall disclose her blood, and will no longer cover her slain.

¹ "Woe to the rebellious children", said the LORD, "that take counsel, but not of me; and that cover with a covering, but not of my spirit, that they may add sin to sin: ² Who walk to go down into Egypt, and have not asked My advice; to strengthen themselves in the strength of Pharaoh, and to trust in the shadow of Egypt! ³ Therefore the strength of Pharaoh shall be your shame, and the trust in the shadow of Egypt your confusion.

¹⁶ But you said, "No; for we will flee on horses"; therefore you shall flee: And, "We will ride on the swift"; therefore those that pursue you shall be swift.

²⁷ Behold, the name of the LORD comes from afar, burning with His anger, and the burden of it is heavy: His lips are full of indignation, and His tongue like a devouring fire: ²⁸ And His breath, as an overflowing stream, shall reach to the middle of the neck, to sift the nations with the sieve of vanity: And there shall be a bridle in the jaws of the people, causing them to err.

¹ Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help; and stay on horses, and trust in chariots, because they are many; and in horsemen, because they are very strong; but they do not look to the Holy One of Israel, neither seek the LORD! ² Yet He is also wise, and will bring evil, and will not call back His words: But will arise against the house of the evildoers, and against the help of those who work iniquity. ³ Now the Egyptians are men, and not God; and their horses flesh, and not spirit. When the LORD stretches out His hand, both he that helps shall fall, and he that is helped shall fall down, and they shall all fail together.

¹⁴ The sinners in Zion are afraid; fearfulness has surprised the hypocrites. Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire? Who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings?

³ Then Isaiah the prophet came to king Hezekiah, and said to him, "What did these men say? And from where did they come to you?" And Hezekiah said, "They have come from a far country to me, even from Babylon."

⁶ 'Behold, the days come, that all that is in your house, and that which your fathers have laid up in store until this day, shall be carried to Babylon: Nothing shall be left', said the LORD. ⁷ And of your sons that shall issue from you, which you shall beget, they shall take away; and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon."

³¹ the prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and My people love to have it so: And what will you do in the end of it?'

¹³ In your filthiness is lewdness: Because I have purged you, and you were not purged, you shall not be purged from your filthiness any more, until I have caused My fury to rest on you. ¹⁴ I the LORD have spoken it: It shall come to pass, and I will do it; I will not go back, neither will I spare, neither will I repent; according to your ways, and according to your doings, they shall judge you", said the Lord GOD.

¹³ When Ephraim saw his sickness, and Judah saw his wound, then Ephraim went to the Assyrian, and sent to king Jareb: Yet he could not heal you, nor cure you of your wound.

⁷ The days of visitation have come, the days of recompense have come; Israel shall know it: The prophet is a fool, the spiritual man is mad, for the multitude of your iniquity, and the great hatred.

¹⁸ Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them in the day of the LORD's wrath; but the whole land shall be devoured by the fire of His jealousy: For He shall even make a speedy riddance of all those that dwell in the land.

⁴⁴ and shall level you even with the ground, and your children within you; and they shall not leave one stone upon another in you; because you did not know the time of your visitation."

¹² having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: That while they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.

¹⁵ And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; ¹⁶ and said to the mountains and rocks, "Fall on us, and hide us from the face of Him that sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:

¹⁷ And I will set my face against you, and you shall be slain before your enemies: Those that hate you shall reign over you; and you shall flee when none pursues you.

³⁶ And on them that are left alive of you I will send a faintness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies; and the sound of a shaken leaf shall chase them; and they shall flee, as fleeing from a sword; and they shall fall when none pursues. ³⁷ And they shall fall one on another, as it were before a sword, when none pursues: And you shall have no power to stand before your enemies.

¹⁵ And the LORD appeared in the tabernacle in a pillar of a cloud: And the pillar of the cloud stood over the door of the tabernacle. ¹⁶ And the LORD said to Moses, "Behold, you shall sleep with your fathers; and this people will rise up, and go a whoring after the gods of the strangers of the land, where they go to be among them, and will forsake me, and break My covenant which I have made with them. ¹⁷ Then my anger shall be kindled against them in that day, and I will forsake them, and I will hide my face from them, and they shall be devoured, and many evils and troubles shall befall them; so that they will say in that day, Are not these evils come on us, because our God is not among us? ¹⁸ And I will surely hide my face in that day for all the evils which they shall have worked, in that they are turned to other gods.

³⁰ How should one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight, except their Rock had sold them, and the LORD had shut them up?

²⁵ Therefore the anger of the LORD is kindled against His people, and He has stretched forth His hand against them, and has smitten them: And the hills did tremble, and their carcasses were torn in the middle of the streets. For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is outstretched still.

¹² the Syrians before, and the Philistines behind; and they shall devour Israel with open mouth. For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is outstretched still.

¹⁷ Therefore the LORD shall have no joy in their young men, neither shall have mercy on their fatherless and widows: For everyone is a hypocrite and an evildoer, and every mouth speaks folly. For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is outstretched still.

²¹ Manasseh, Ephraim; and Ephraim, Manasseh: And they together shall be against Judah. For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is outstretched still.

² You that are full of commotion, a tumultuous city, joyous city: Your slain men are not slain with the sword, nor dead in battle.

²² And they shall be gathered together, as prisoners are gathered in the pit, and shall be shut up in the prison, and after many days they shall be visited.

³ Their slain shall also be cast out, and their stink shall come up out of their carcasses, and the mountains shall be melted with their blood.

¹⁶ For by fire and by His sword the LORD will plead with all flesh: And the slain of the LORD shall be many.

¹⁰ For though you had smitten the whole army of the Chaldeans who fight against you, and there remained but wounded men among them, yet they should rise up every man in his tent, and burn this city with fire.

¹² Though they bring up their children, yet I will bereave them, that there shall not be a man left: Yes, woe also to them when I depart from them!

¹¹ Out of that land went forth Asshur, and he built Nineveh, and the city Rehoboth, and Calah,

¹⁴ From men which are Your hand, O LORD, from men of the world, which have their portion in this life, and whose belly You fill with Your hidden treasure: They are full of children, and leave the rest of their substance to their babes.

³ For the rod of the wicked shall not rest upon the lot of the righteous; lest the righteous put forth their hands to iniquity.

⁴ For before the child shall have knowledge to cry, My father, and my mother, the riches of Damascus and the spoil of Samaria shall be taken away before the king of Assyria.

⁵ They come from a far country, from the end of heaven, even the LORD, and the weapons of His indignation, to destroy the whole land.

⁵ The LORD has broken the staff of the wicked, and the scepter of the rulers. ⁶ He who smote the people in wrath with a continual stroke, he that ruled the nations in anger, is persecuted, and none hinders.

²⁵ That I will break the Assyrian in my land, and tread him under foot on my mountains: Then his yoke shall depart from off them, and his burden depart from off their shoulders.

³⁰ And the LORD shall cause His glorious voice to be heard, and shall show the lighting down of His arm, with the indignation of His anger, and with the flame of a devouring fire, with scattering, and tempest, and hailstones.

¹⁴ And when you see this, your heart shall rejoice, and your bones shall flourish like a herb: And the hand of the LORD shall be known toward His servants, and His indignation toward His enemies.

²⁰ "You are my battle ax and weapons of war: For with you I will break in pieces the nations, and with you will I destroy kingdoms; ²¹ and with you will I break in pieces the horse and his rider; and with you I will break in pieces the chariot and his rider; ²² with you I will also break in pieces man and woman; and with you I will break in pieces old and young; and with you I will break in pieces the young man and the maid; ²³ I will also break in pieces with you the shepherd and his flock; and with you I will break in pieces the farmer and his yoke of oxen; and with you I will break in pieces captains and rulers. ²⁴ And I will render to Babylon and to all the inhabitants of Chaldea all their evil that they have done in Zion in your sight", said the LORD.

¹³ And He will stretch out His hand against the north, and destroy Assyria; and will make Nineveh a desolation, and dry like a wilderness.

⁴³ Then did I beat them as small as the dust of the earth, I did stamp them as the mire of the street, and did spread them abroad.

²⁹ Their roaring shall be like a lion, they shall roar like young lions: Yes, they shall roar, and lay hold of the prey, and shall carry it away safe, and none shall deliver it.

¹⁹ Through the wrath of the LORD of hosts the land is darkened, and the people shall be as the fuel of the fire: No man shall spare his brother.

¹⁷ And the land of Judah shall be a terror to Egypt, everyone that makes mention of it shall be afraid in himself, because of the counsel of the LORD of hosts, which he has determined against it.

⁵ For it is a day of trouble, and of treading down, and of perplexity by the Lord GOD of hosts in the valley of vision, breaking down the walls, and of crying to the mountains.

¹³ Therefore the Lord said, "For as much as these people draw near Me with their mouths, and honor Me with their lips, but have removed their hearts far from Me, and their fear toward Me is taught by the precept of men:

⁹ That this is a rebellious people, lying children, children that will not hear the law of the LORD: ¹⁰ Which say to the seers, "See not"; and to the prophets, "Do not prophesy to us right things, speak to us smooth things, prophesy deceits: ¹¹ Get out of the way, turn aside out of the path, cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us."

²⁶ Have you not heard long ago, how I have done it; and of ancient times, that I have formed it? Now I have brought it to pass, that you should lay waste defended cities into ruinous heaps. ²⁷ Therefore their inhabitants were of small power, they were dismayed and confounded: They were as the grass of the field, and as the green herb, as the grass on the housetops, and as grain blasted before it is grown up.

²⁵ I have raised one up from the north, and he shall come: From the rising of the sun shall he call on My name: And he shall come on princes as on mortar, and as the potter treads clay.

¹ Thus says the LORD to His anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have held, to subdue nations before him; and I will loose the loins of kings, to open before him the two-leaved gates; and the gates shall not be shut; ² I will go before you, and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut apart the bars of iron: ³ And I will give you the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that you may know that I, the LORD, who call you by your name, am the God of Israel. ⁴ For Jacob My servant's sake, and Israel My elect, I have even called you by your name: I have surnamed you, though you have not known Me. ⁵ I am the LORD, and there is none other, there is no God besides Me: I girded you, though you have not known Me:

³ "I have trodden the winepress alone; and from the people there was no one with me: For I will tread them in My anger, and trample them in My fury; and their blood shall be sprinkled on My garments, and I will stain all My clothing.

⁶ And I will tread down the people in My anger, and make them drunk in My fury, and I will bring down their strength to the earth.

¹⁰ And yet for all this her treacherous sister Judah has not turned to Me with her whole heart, but feignedly", said the LORD.

¹⁴ O Jerusalem, wash your heart from wickedness, that you may be saved. How long shall your vain thoughts lodge within you?

⁹ behold, I will send and take all the families of the north', said the LORD, 'and Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, My servant, and will bring them against this land, and against its inhabitants, and against all these nations all around, and will utterly destroy them, and make them an astonishment, and a hissing, and perpetual desolations.

²² 'Behold, I will command', said the LORD, 'and cause them to return to this city; and they shall fight against it, and take it, and burn it with fire: And I will make the cities of Judah a desolation without an inhabitant.' "

⁶ O sword of the LORD, how long will it be before you are quiet? Put yourself into your sheath, rest, and be still. ⁷ How can it be quiet, seeing the LORD has given it a charge against Ashkelon, and against the seashore? There He has appointed it."

¹⁰ Then she that is my enemy shall see it, and shame shall cover her who said to me, "Where is the LORD your God?" My eyes shall behold her: Now she shall be trodden down as the mire of the streets.

⁵ And they shall be as mighty men, which tread down their enemies in the mire of the streets in the battle: And they shall fight, because the LORD is with them, and the riders on horses shall be confounded.

⁷ You hypocrites, Isaiah prophesied well concerning you, saying:

²⁰ But as for you, you thought evil against me; but God meant it for good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save many people alive.

¹⁸ Beware lest Hezekiah persuade you, saying, 'The LORD will deliver us.' Has any of the gods of the nations delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria? ¹⁹ Where are the gods of Hamath and Arphad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim? And have they delivered Samaria out of my hand? ²⁰ Who are they among all the gods of these lands, that have delivered their land out of my hand, that the LORD should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?"

¹¹ Behold, you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands by destroying them utterly; and shall you be delivered? ¹² Have the gods of the nations delivered those whom my fathers have destroyed, as Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the children of Eden which were in Telassar? ¹³ Where is the king of Hamath, and the king of Arphad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivah?"

¹¹ Now also many nations are gathered against you, that say, "Let her be defiled, and let our eye look upon Zion." ¹² But they do not know the thoughts of the LORD, neither do they understand His counsel: For He shall gather them as the sheaves into the floor.

²³ Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, you have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:

²⁷ For those that dwell at Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they did not know Him, nor even the voices of the prophets which are read every Sabbath day, they have fulfilled them in condemning Him. ²⁸ And though they found no cause for death in Him, yet they desired of Pilate that He should be slain. ²⁹ And when they had fulfilled all that was written about Him, they took Him down from the tree, and laid Him in a sepulchre. ³⁰ But God raised Him from the dead:

²⁴ How then will you turn away the face of one captain of the least of my master's servants, and put your trust on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?

¹⁰ "Thus you shall speak to Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, 'Do not let your God in Whom you trust deceive you, saying, "Jerusalem shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria."

⁸ Now therefore, I implore you, give pledges to my master the king of Assyria, and I will give you two thousand horses, if you are able on your part to set riders on them.

⁷ For thus says the Lord GOD; 'Behold, I will bring on Tyrus Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, a king of kings, from the north, with horses, and with chariots, and with horsemen, and companies, and many people.

³⁷ You, O king, are a king of kings: For the God of heaven has given you a kingdom, power, and strength, and glory.

¹⁰ And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, and Erech, and Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.

⁹ When Toi king of Hamath heard that David had smitten all the host of Hadadezer,

⁹ And the king of Assyria listened to him: For the king of Assyria went up against Damascus, and took it, and carried the people of it captive to Kir, and slew Rezin.

⁵ Then the king of Assyria came up throughout all the land, and went up to Samaria, and besieged it three years. ⁶ In the ninth year of Hoshea the king of Assyria took Samaria, and carried Israel away into Assyria, and placed them in Halah and in Habor by the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.

²⁴ And the king of Assyria brought men from Babylon, and from Cuthah, and from Ava, and from Hamath, and from Sepharvaim, and placed them in the cities of Samaria instead of the children of Israel: And they possessed Samaria, and dwelled in its cities.

⁹ And it came to pass in the fourth year of king Hezekiah, which was the seventh year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, that Shalmaneser king of Assyria came up against Samaria, and besieged it. ¹⁰ And at the end of three years they took it: Even in the sixth year of Hezekiah, that is in the ninth year of Hoshea king of Israel, Samaria was taken.

²⁰ After all this, when Josiah had prepared the temple, Necho king of Egypt came up to fight against Charchemish by Euphrates: And Josiah went out against him.

⁸ For the head of Syria is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is Rezin; and within sixty-five years Ephraim shall be broken, that it be not a people.

³ The fortress shall also cease from Ephraim, and the kingdom from Damascus, and the remnant of Syria: They shall be as the glory of the children of Israel", said the LORD of hosts.

¹⁹ Where are the gods of Hamath and Arphad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim? And have they delivered Samaria out of my hand?

¹³ Where is the king of Hamath, and the king of Arphad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivah?"

² against Egypt, against the army of Pharaohnecho king of Egypt, which was by the river Euphrates in Carchemish, which Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon smote in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah.

²³ Concerning Damascus. Hamath is confounded, and Arpad: For they have heard evil tidings: They are fainthearted; there is sorrow on the sea; it cannot be quiet.

¹ Woe to those that are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria, which are named chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel came! ² Pass over to Calneh, and see; and from there go to Hamath the great: Then go down to Gath of the Philistines: Are they better than these kingdoms? Or their border greater than your border?

³³ Has any of the gods of the nations delivered at all his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria? ³⁴ Where are the gods of Hamath, and of Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivah? Have they delivered Samaria out of my hand? ³⁵ Who are they among all the gods of the countries, that have delivered their country out of my hand, that the LORD should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?

¹² Have the gods of the nations delivered them which my fathers have destroyed; as Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the children of Eden which were in Thelasar? ¹³ Where is the king of Hamath, and the king of Arpad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, of Hena, and Ivah?

¹⁷ Of a truth, LORD, the kings of Assyria have destroyed the nations and their lands, ¹⁸ and have cast their gods into the fire: For they were no gods, but the work of men's hands, wood and stone: Therefore they have destroyed them. ¹⁹ Now therefore, O LORD our God, I beseech you, save you us out of his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you are the LORD God, even you only.

¹² Has not the same Hezekiah taken away his high places and his altars, and commanded Judah and Jerusalem, saying, "You shall worship before one altar, and burn incense on it? ¹³ Do you not know what I and my fathers have done to all the people of other lands? Were the gods of the nations of those lands any ways able to deliver their lands out of my hand? ¹⁴ Who was there among all the gods of those nations that my fathers utterly destroyed, that could deliver his people out of my hand, that your God should be able to deliver you out of my hand? ¹⁵ Now therefore let not Hezekiah deceive you, nor persuade you on this manner, neither yet believe him: For no god of any nation or kingdom was able to deliver his people out of my hand, and out of the hand of my fathers: How much less shall your God deliver you out of my hand? ¹⁶ And his servants spoke yet more against the LORD God, and against his servant Hezekiah.

¹⁹ And they spoke against the God of Jerusalem, as against the gods of the people of the earth, which were the work of the hands of man.

¹⁴ And my hand has found as a nest the riches of the people: And as one gathers eggs that are left, have I gathered all the earth; and there was none that moved the wing, or opened the mouth, or peeped."

⁸ Their land is also full of idols; they worship the work of their own hands, that which their own fingers have made:

¹⁰ "Thus shall you speak to Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, 'Let not your God, in Whom you trust, deceive you, saying, "Jerusalem shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria."

³¹ For out of Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant, and those that escape out of Mount Zion: The zeal of the LORD of hosts shall do this.

¹¹ Cast abroad the rage of your wrath: And behold everyone that is proud, and abase him. ¹² Look on everyone that is proud, and bring him low; and tread down the wicked in their place.

²⁷ For You will save the afflicted people; but will bring down high looks.

¹⁰ You shall destroy their fruit from the earth, and their seed from among the children of men.

¹⁰ Surely the wrath of man shall praise you: You shall restrain the remainder of wrath.

¹³ There is a generation, O how lofty are their eyes! And their eyelids are lifted up.

¹¹ The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, and the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day.

¹⁵ And the contemptible man shall be brought down, and the mighty man shall be humbled, and the eyes of the lofty shall be humbled:

⁹ And all the people shall know, even Ephraim and the inhabitant of Samaria, that say in the pride and stoutness of heart,

⁵ O Assyrian, the rod of My anger, and the staff in their hand is My indignation. ⁶ I will send him against a hypocritical nation, and I will give him a charge against the people of my wrath, to take the spoil, and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire in the streets.

¹⁶ Therefore shall the Lord, the Lord of hosts, send among his fat ones leanness; and under his glory He shall kindle a burning like the burning of a fire. ¹⁷ And the light of Israel shall be for a fire, and his Holy One for a flame: And it shall burn and devour his thorns and his briers in one day; ¹⁸ and shall consume the glory of his forest, and of his fruitful field, both soul and body: And they shall be as when a standard-bearer faints. ¹⁹ And the rest of the trees of his forest shall be few, that a child may list them.

²⁵ For yet a very little while, and the indignation shall cease, and My anger in their destruction. ²⁶ And the LORD of hosts shall stir up a whip for him according to the slaughter of Midian at the rock of Oreb: And as His rod was on the sea, so shall He lift it up after the manner of Egypt. ²⁷ And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off your shoulder, and his yoke from off your neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing. ²⁸ He has come to Aiath, he has passed to Migron; at Michmash he has laid up his carriages: ²⁹ They have gone over the passage: They have taken up their lodging at Geba; Ramah is afraid; Gibeah of Saul has fled. ³⁰ Lift up your voice, O daughter of Gallim: Cause it to be heard to Laish, O poor Anathoth. ³¹ Madmenah is removed; the inhabitants of Gebim gather themselves to flee. ³² As yet he shall remain at Nob that day: He shall shake his hand against the mount of the daughter of Zion, the hill of Jerusalem. ³³ Behold, the Lord, the LORD of hosts, shall lop the bough with terror: And the high ones of stature shall be hewn down, and the haughty shall be humbled. ³⁴ And He shall cut down the thickets of the forest with iron, and Lebanon shall fall by a Mighty One.

²⁴ The LORD of hosts has sworn, saying, "Surely as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed, so shall it stand: ²⁵ That I will break the Assyrian in my land, and tread him under foot on my mountains: Then his yoke shall depart from off them, and his burden depart from off their shoulders. ²⁶ This is the purpose that is purposed on the whole earth: And this is the hand that is outstretched on all the nations. ²⁷ For the LORD of hosts has purposed, and who shall cancel it? And his hand is outstretched, and who shall turn it back?

¹² Woe to the multitude of many people, which make a noise like the noise of the seas; and to the rushing of nations, that make a rushing like the rushing of mighty waters! ¹³ The nations shall rush like the rushing of many waters: But God shall rebuke them, and they shall flee far off, and shall be chased as the chaff of the mountains before the wind, and like a rolling thing before the whirlwind. ¹⁴ And behold at time of evening trouble; and before the morning he is no more. This is the portion of those who spoil us, and the lot of those that rob us.

⁹ By this therefore the iniquity of Jacob shall be purged; and this is all the fruit of taking away his sin; when he makes all the stones of the altar as chalkstones that are beaten to pieces, the wooden pillars and images shall not stand up.

²¹ For the LORD shall rise up as in Mount Perazim, He shall be angry as in the valley of Gibeon, that He may do his work, His strange work; and bring to pass His act, His strange act. ²² Now therefore you shall not be mockers, lest your bands be made strong: For I have heard from the Lord GOD of hosts a consumption, even determined on the whole earth.

⁷ And the multitude of all the nations that fight against Ariel, even all that fight against her and her fortification, and that distress her, shall be as a dream of a night vision. ⁸ It shall even be as when a hungry man dreams, and behold, he eats; but he wakes, and his soul is empty: Or as when a thirsty man dreams, and behold, he drinks; but he wakes, and behold, he is faint, and his soul has appetite: So shall the multitude of all the nations be, that fight against Mount Zion.

³⁰ And the LORD shall cause His glorious voice to be heard, and shall show the lighting down of His arm, with the indignation of His anger, and with the flame of a devouring fire, with scattering, and tempest, and hailstones. ³¹ For through the voice of the LORD the Assyrian shall be beaten down, who smote with a rod. ³² And in every place where the grounded staff shall pass, which the LORD shall lay upon him, it shall be with timbrels and harps: And He will fight with it in battles of shaking. ³³ For Tophet is ordained of old; yes, it is prepared for the king; He has made it deep and large: Its pile is fire and much wood; the breath of the LORD, like a stream of brimstone, kindles it.Tophet; or, Hell

⁵ As birds flying, so will the LORD of hosts defend Jerusalem; defending He will also deliver it; and passing over He will preserve it." ⁶ Turn to Him against whom the children of Israel have deeply revolted. ⁷ For in that day every man shall cast away his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which your own hands have made for you for a sin. ⁸ "Then the Assyrian shall fall by the sword, not of a mighty man; and the sword shall devour him, not of a contemptible man; but he shall flee from the sword, and his young men shall be routed. ⁹ And he shall pass over to his stronghold for fear, and his princes shall be afraid of the ensign", said the LORD, whose fire is in Zion, and His furnace in Jerusalem.

³⁶ Then the angel of the LORD went forth, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and eighty and five thousand: And when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses. ³⁷ So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, and went and returned, and dwelled at Nineveh. ³⁸ And it came to pass, as he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons smote him with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Armenia: And Esarhaddon his son reigned in his stead.

¹⁰ declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, 'My counsel shall stand, and I will do all My pleasure': ¹¹ Calling a ravenous bird from the east, the man that executes My counsel from a far country: Yes, I have spoken it, I will also bring it to pass; I have purposed it, I will also do it.

¹¹ Behold, all you that kindle a fire, that compass yourselves about with sparks: Walk in the light of your fire, and in the sparks that you have kindled. This you shall have from My hand; you shall lie down in sorrow."

⁷ your iniquities, and the iniquities of your fathers together", said the LORD, "who have burned incense upon the mountains, and blasphemed Me on the hills: Therefore I will measure their former work into their bosom."

¹⁸ Therefore thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; "Behold, I will punish the king of Babylon and his land, as I have punished the king of Assyria.

¹⁰ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; 'Because you have lifted yourself up in height, and he has shot up his top among the thick boughs, and his heart is lifted up in his height;

¹⁴ To the end that none of all the trees by the waters exalt themselves for their height, neither shoot up their top among the thick boughs, neither their trees stand up in their height, all who drink water: For they are all delivered to death, to the lower parts of the earth, in the midst of the children of men, with those who go down to the pit.'

³⁷ Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven, all whose works are truth, and His ways judgment: And those who walk in pride He is able to abase.

³³ Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: For the tree is known by his fruit.

¹⁹ For out of the heart proceeds evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:

¹⁷ For the time has come that judgment must begin at the house of God: And if it begins first with us, what shall be the end of those that do not obey the gospel of God?

¹⁷ and you say in your heart, My power and the might of my hand has gotten me this wealth.

²⁹ In the days of Pekah king of Israel came Tiglathpileser king of Assyria, and took Ijon, and Abelbethmaachah, and Janoah, and Kedesh, and Hazor, and Gilead, and Galilee, all the land of Naphtali, and carried them captive to Assyria.

⁸ And Ahaz took the silver and gold that was found in the house of the LORD, and in the treasures of the king's house, and sent it for a present to the king of Assyria.

⁶ In the ninth year of Hoshea the king of Assyria took Samaria, and carried Israel away into Assyria, and placed them in Halah and in Habor by the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.

¹¹ And the king of Assyria did carry away Israel to Assyria, and put them in Halah and in Habor by the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes:

¹⁵ And Hezekiah gave him all the silver that was found in the house of the LORD, and in the treasures of the king's house.

³² Until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of grain and wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of olive oil and of honey, that you may live, and not die: And listen not to Hezekiah, when he persuades you, saying, "The LORD will deliver us.

²² Whom have you reproached and blasphemed? And against whom have you exalted your voice, and lifted up your eyes on high? Even against the Holy One of Israel. ²³ By your messengers you have reproached the LORD, and have said, "With the multitude of my chariots I am come up to the height of the mountains, to the sides of Lebanon, and will cut down the tall cedar trees of it, and the choice fir trees of it: And I will enter into the lodgings of his borders, and into the forest of his Carmel. ²⁴ I have dig and drunk strange waters, and with the sole of my feet have I dried up all the rivers of besieged places.

²⁶ And the God of Israel stirred up the spirit of Pul king of Assyria, and the spirit of Tilgathpilneser king of Assyria, and he carried them away, even the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh, and brought them to Halah, and Habor, and Hara, and to the river Gozan, to this day.

⁸ For he said, "Are not my princes altogether kings?"

²³ Whom have you reproached and blasphemed? And against whom have you exalted your voice, and lifted up your eyes on high? Even against the Holy One of Israel. ²⁴ By your servants you have reproached the Lord, and have said, "By the multitude of my chariots I have come up to the height of the mountains, to the sides of Lebanon; and I will cut down the tall cedars of it, and its choice fir trees: And I will enter into the height of his border, and the forest of his Carmel. ²⁵ I have dug, and drunk water; and with the sole of my feet I have dried up all the rivers of the besieged places."

³ and say to the Ammonites, 'Hear the word of the Lord GOD; Thus says the Lord GOD; "Because you said, 'Aha', against My sanctuary, when it was profaned; and against the land of Israel, when it was desolate; and against the house of Judah, when they went into captivity;

² "Son of man, because Tyrus has said against Jerusalem, 'Aha, she who was the gates of the people is broken: She has turned to me: I shall be replenished, now she is laid waste:'

² "Son of man, say to the prince of Tyrus, 'Thus says the Lord GOD; "Because your heart is lifted up, and you have said, 'I am a God, I sit in the seat of God, in the midst of the seas'; yet you are a man, and not God, though you set your heart as the heart of God: ³ Behold, you are wiser than Daniel; there is no secret that they can hide from you: ⁴ With your wisdom and with your understanding you have gotten your riches, and have gotten gold and silver into your treasures: ⁵ By your great wisdom and by your traffic you have increased your riches, and your heart is lifted up because of your riches:" ⁶ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; "Because you have set your heart as the heart of God; ⁷ behold, therefore I will bring strangers upon you, the terrible ones of the nations: And they shall draw their swords against the beauty of your wisdom, and they shall defile your brightness. ⁸ They shall bring you down to the pit, and you shall die the deaths of those who are slain in the midst of the seas. ⁹ Will you yet say before him who slays you, 'I am God?' But you shall be a man, and no God, in the hand of him who slays you.

³ Speak, and say, 'Thus says the Lord GOD; "Behold, I am against you, Pharaoh king of Egypt, the great dragon who lies in the middle of his rivers, who has said, 'My river is my own, and I have made it for myself.'

³⁰ The king spoke, and said, "Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honor of my majesty?"

¹⁵ Though he is fruitful among his brothers, an east wind shall come, the wind of the LORD shall come up from the wilderness, and his spring shall become dry, and his fountain shall be dried up: He shall spoil the treasure of all pleasant vessels. ¹⁶ Samaria shall become desolate; for she has rebelled against her God: They shall fall by the sword: Their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped up.

²⁷ Therefore I will cause you to go into captivity beyond Damascus", says the LORD, Whose name is The God of hosts.

¹³ You who rejoice in a worthless thing, which say, "Have we not taken to ourselves horns by our own strength?"

¹⁶ Therefore they sacrifice to their net, and burn incense to their dragnet; because by them their portion is fat, and their meat plenteous.

²⁵ if I rejoice because my wealth was great, and because my hand had gotten much;

¹² Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honor is humility.

⁶ The getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a vanity tossed to and fro by those that seek death. ⁷ The robbery of the wicked shall destroy them; because they refuse to do judgment.

¹⁶ Your terribleness has deceived you, and the pride of your heart, O you who dwell in the clefts of the rock, who hold the height of the hill: Though you should make your nest as high as the eagle, I will bring you down from there", said the LORD.

⁷ He is a merchant, the balances of deceit are in his hand: He loves to oppress. ⁸ And Ephraim said, 'Yet I have become rich, I have found my substance: In all my labors they shall find no iniquity in me that was sin.'

⁴ Though you exalt yourself as the eagle, and though you set your nest among the stars, I will bring you down from there", says the LORD.

⁹ Take the spoil of silver, take the spoil of gold, all of you: For there is no end of the storehouse and glory proceeding from all the pleasant furnishings.

⁵ Yes also, because he transgresses by wine, he is a proud man, neither keeps at home, who enlarges his desire as hell, and is as death, and cannot be satisfied, but gathers to him all nations, and heaps to him all people: ⁶ Shall not all these take up a parable against him, and a taunting proverb against him, and say, 'Woe to him that increases that which is not his! How long? And woe to him that lades himself with thick clay!'? ⁷ Shall they not rise up suddenly that will bite you, and awake that shall vex you, and you shall be for booty to them? ⁸ Because you have spoiled many nations, all the remnant of the people shall spoil you; because of men's blood, and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell in it. ⁹ Woe to him that covets an evil covetousness to establish his house, that he may set his nest on high, that he may be delivered from the power of evil! ¹⁰ You have consulted shame to establish your house by cutting off many people, and have sinned against your soul. ¹¹ For the stone shall cry out of the wall, and the beam out of the timber shall answer it.

¹³ Arise, O LORD, disappoint him, cast him down: Deliver my soul from the wicked, which are Your sword: ¹⁴ From men which are Your hand, O LORD, from men of the world, which have their portion in this life, and whose belly You fill with Your hidden treasure: They are full of children, and leave the rest of their substance to their babes.

⁵ O Assyrian, the rod of My anger, and the staff in their hand is My indignation.

¹⁶ Surely your turning of things upside down shall be esteemed as the potter's clay: For shall the work say of him that made it, "He did not make me?" or shall the thing framed say of him who framed it, "He had no understanding?"

⁹ Woe to him that strives with his Maker! Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth. Shall the clay say to him who fashions it, 'What are you making?' Or your work, 'He has no handles?'

²⁰ "You are my battle ax and weapons of war: For with you I will break in pieces the nations, and with you will I destroy kingdoms; ²¹ and with you will I break in pieces the horse and his rider; and with you I will break in pieces the chariot and his rider; ²² with you I will also break in pieces man and woman; and with you I will break in pieces old and young; and with you I will break in pieces the young man and the maid; ²³ I will also break in pieces with you the shepherd and his flock; and with you I will break in pieces the farmer and his yoke of oxen; and with you I will break in pieces captains and rulers.

⁹ Will you yet say before him who slays you, 'I am God?' But you shall be a man, and no God, in the hand of him who slays you.

²⁰ No rather, O man, who are you that replies against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, "Why have you made me like this?" ²¹ Does not the potter have power over the clay, from the same lump to make one vessel for honor, and another for dishonor?

²¹ And the LORD sent an angel, which cut off all the mighty men of valor, and the leaders and captains in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. And when he was come into the house of his god, those that came forth of his own bowels slew him there with the sword.

¹⁵ And He gave them their request, but sent leanness into their soul.

¹⁷ Then shall the lambs feed after their manner, and strangers shall eat the desolate places of the rich ones.

⁷ now therefore, behold, the Lord brings up on them the waters of the river, strong and many, even the king of Assyria, and all his glory: And he shall come up over all his channels, and go over all his banks:

⁵ For every battle of the warrior is with confused noise, and garments rolled in blood; but this shall be with burning and fuel of fire.

¹⁸ and shall consume the glory of his forest, and of his fruitful field, both soul and body: And they shall be as when a standard-bearer faints.

⁴ "And in that day it shall come to pass, that the glory of Jacob shall be made thin, and the fatness of his flesh shall wax lean.

⁵ Moreover the multitude of your strangers shall be like small dust, and the multitude of the terrible ones shall be as chaff that passes away: Yes, it shall be in an instant, suddenly. ⁶ You shall be visited by the LORD of hosts with thunder, and with earthquake, and great noise, with storm and tempest, and the flame of devouring fire.

¹⁰ Now I will rise", says the LORD; now I will be exalted; now I will lift myself up. ¹¹ You shall conceive chaff, you shall bring forth stubble: Your breath shall devour you as fire. ¹² And the people shall be as the burnings of lime: As cut up thorns they shall be burned in the fire. ¹³ Hear, you that are far off, what I have done; and, you that are near, acknowledge my might. ¹⁴ The sinners in Zion are afraid; fearfulness has surprised the hypocrites. Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire? Who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings?

⁶ And Isaiah said to them, "Thus you shall say to your master, 'Thus says the LORD, "Do not be afraid of the words that you have heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed Me. ⁷ Behold, I will send a blast on him, and he shall hear a rumor, and return to his own land; and I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land." ' "

²⁹ Because your rage against me, and your tumult, have come up into my ears, therefore I will put my hook in your nose, and my bridle in your lips, and I will turn back by the way which you came." '

³⁶ Then the angel of the LORD went forth, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and eighty and five thousand: And when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses.

²³ And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he did not give glory to God: And he was eaten by worms, and gave up the ghost.

¹ And when the people complained, it displeased the LORD: And the LORD heard it; and his anger was kindled; and the fire of the LORD burnt among them, and consumed those that were in the uttermost parts of the camp. ² And the people cried out to Moses; and when Moses prayed to the LORD, the fire was quenched. ³ And he called the name of the place Taberah: Because the fire of the LORD burnt among them.

³⁵ And there came out a fire from the LORD, and consumed the two hundred and fifty men that offered incense.

⁸ There went up a smoke out of His nostrils, and fire out of His mouth devoured: Coals were kindled by it.

⁹ You shall make them as a fiery oven in the time of Your anger: The LORD shall swallow them up in His wrath, and the fire shall devour them.

¹ A Psalm of David. The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

³ Our God shall come, and shall not keep silence: A fire shall devour before Him, and it shall be very tempestuous all around Him.

¹⁴ As the fire burns a forest, and as the flame sets the mountains on fire; ¹⁵ so persecute them with Your tempest, and make them afraid with Your storm.

¹¹ For the LORD God is a sun and shield: The LORD will give grace and glory: He will not withhold any good thing from those that walk uprightly.

³ A fire goes before Him, and burns up His enemies all around.

¹⁸ For wickedness burns as the fire: It shall devour the briers and thorns, and shall kindle in the thickets of the forest, and they shall roll up like the lifting up of smoke.

⁴ Fury is not in Me: Who would set the briers and thorns against Me in battle? I would go through them, I would burn them together.

⁹ And he shall pass over to his stronghold for fear, and his princes shall be afraid of the ensign", said the LORD, whose fire is in Zion, and His furnace in Jerusalem.

²³ Whom have you reproached and blasphemed? And against whom have you exalted your voice, and lifted up your eyes on high? Even against the Holy One of Israel.

¹⁹ The sun shall no longer be your light by day; neither shall the moon give light to you for brightness: But the LORD shall be to you an everlasting light, and your God your glory.

¹ Oh that You would rend heaven, that You would come down, that the mountains might flow down at Your presence, ² as when the melting fire burns, the fire causes the waters to boil, to make Your name known to Your adversaries, that the nations may tremble at Your presence!

¹⁵ For, behold, the LORD will come with fire, and with His chariots like a whirlwind, to render His anger with fury, and His rebuke with flames of fire. ¹⁶ For by fire and by His sword the LORD will plead with all flesh: And the slain of the LORD shall be many.

²⁴ "And they shall go forth, and look on the carcasses of the men that have transgressed against Me: For their worm shall not die, neither shall their fire be quenched; and they shall be an abhorring to all flesh."

⁴ Circumcise yourselves to the LORD, and take away the foreskins of your heart, you men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem: Lest My fury come forth like fire, and burn so that no one can quench it, because of the evil of your doings."

²⁰ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; "Behold, My anger and My fury shall be poured out on this place, upon man, and upon beast, and on the trees of the field, and on the fruit of the ground; and it shall burn, and shall not be quenched."

⁵ The mountains quake at Him, and the hills melt, and the earth is burned at His presence, yes, the world, and all that dwell in it. ⁶ Who can stand before His indignation? And who can abide in the fierceness of His anger? His fury is poured out like fire, and the rocks are thrown down by Him.abide: In Hebrew, stand up

¹⁰ For while they are entwined together as thorns, and while they are drunken as drunkards, they shall be devoured as fully dried stubble.

¹ "For behold, the day comes, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yes, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: And the day that comes shall burn them up", says the LORD of hosts, "that it shall leave them neither root nor branch. ² But to you that fear My name, the Sun of Righteousness shall arise with healing in His wings; and you all shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall. ³ And all of you shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this", says the LORD of hosts.

¹² Whose fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly purge His floor, and gather His wheat into the granary; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire."

⁷ and to you who are troubled, rest with us; when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, ⁸ in flaming fire taking vengeance on those that do not know God, and that do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: ⁹ Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of His power;

²⁹ For our God is a consuming fire.

²³ And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: For the glory of God illuminates it, and the Lamb is the light of it.

⁵ And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God gives them light: And they shall reign forever and ever.

²³ By your messengers you have reproached the LORD, and have said, "With the multitude of my chariots I am come up to the height of the mountains, to the sides of Lebanon, and will cut down the tall cedar trees of it, and the choice fir trees of it: And I will enter into the lodgings of his borders, and into the forest of his Carmel.

²⁸ Because your rage against me and your tumult has come up into my ears, therefore I will put my hook in your nose, and my bridle in your lips, and I will turn back by the way by which you came.

¹⁴ But I will punish you according to the fruit of your doings", said the LORD: "and I will kindle a fire in the forest of it, and it shall devour all things around it." ' "

⁴⁷ and say to the forest of the south, 'Hear the word of the LORD; Thus says the Lord GOD; "Behold, I will kindle a fire in you, and it shall devour every green tree in you, and every dry tree: The blazing flame shall not be quenched, and all faces from the south to the north shall be burned in it. ⁴⁸ And all flesh shall see that I the LORD have kindled it: It shall not be quenched." ' "

¹⁷ And the residue of the number of archers, the mighty men of the children of Kedar, shall be diminished: For the LORD God of Israel has spoken it."

⁷ So Ahaz sent messengers to Tiglathpileser king of Assyria, saying, "I am your servant and your son: Come up, and save me out of the hand of the king of Syria, and out of the hand of the king of Israel, which rise up against me.

²⁰ And Tilgathpilneser king of Assyria came to him, and distressed him, but strengthened him not.

¹⁴ should we again break your commandments, and join in affinity with the people of these abominations? Would not you be angry with us till you had consumed us, so that there should be no remnant nor escaping?

⁹ Except the LORD of hosts had left to us a very small remnant, we should have been as Sodom, and we should have been like Gomorrah.

² In that day shall the branch of the LORD be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the earth shall be excellent and suitable for those that have escaped of Israel. ³ And it shall come to pass, that he who is left in Zion, and he who remains in Jerusalem, shall be called holy, even everyone that is recorded among the living in Jerusalem:

¹³ But yet in it shall be a tenth, and it shall return, and shall be consumed: As a teil tree, and as an oak, whose substance is in them, when they cast their leaves: So the holy seed shall be the substance of it."

¹¹ And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall set His hand again the second time to recover the remnant of His people, which shall be left, from Assyria, and from Egypt, and from Pathros, and from Cush, and from Elam, and from Shinar, and from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea.

⁷ In that day a man shall look to his Maker, and his eyes shall have respect for the Holy One of Israel. ⁸ And he shall not look to the altars, the work of his hands, nor respect that which his fingers have made, either the groves, or the images.

³ You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You: Because he trusts in You. ⁴ Trust in the LORD forever: For in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength:

⁴ It may be the LORD your God will hear the words of Rabshakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master has sent to reproach the living God, and will reprove the words which the LORD your God has heard: Therefore lift up your prayer for the remnant that is left.' "

³¹ And the remnant of the house of Judah who have escaped shall again take root downward, and bear fruit upward: ³² For out of Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant, and they who escape out of Mount Zion: The zeal of the LORD of hosts shall do this.

¹ "Hear this, O house of Jacob, which are called by the name of Israel, and are come forth out of the waters of Judah, which swear by the name of the LORD, and make mention of the God of Israel, but not in truth, nor in righteousness. ² For they call themselves of the holy city, and stay themselves on the God of Israel; The LORD of hosts is his name.

¹⁰ Who is among you that fears the LORD, that obeys the voice of His Servant, that walks in darkness, and has no light? Let him trust in the name of the LORD, and rely upon his God.

³ Asshur shall not save us; we will not ride upon horses: Neither will we say any more to the work of our hands, 'You are our gods': For in You the fatherless finds mercy."

²⁷ Isaiah also cries out concerning Israel, "Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a remnant shall be saved: ²⁸ For He will finish the work, and cut it short in righteousness: Because the Lord will make a short work upon the earth." ²⁹ And as Isaiah said before, "Unless the Lord of Sabaoth had left us a seed, we would have been even as Sodom, and been made similar to Gomorrah."

³ Then the LORD said to Isaiah, "Go forth now to meet Ahaz, you, and Shearjashub your son, at the end of the conduit of the upper pool on the highway of the Fuller's field;

⁶ For to us a Child is born, to us a Son is given: And the government shall be upon His shoulder: And His name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

¹³ For the people do not turn to Him that smites them, neither do they seek the LORD of hosts.

²² And the LORD shall smite Egypt: He shall smite and heal it: And they shall even return to the LORD, and He shall be entreated of them, and shall heal them.

⁷ Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: And let him return to the LORD, and He will have mercy on him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.

⁸ Thus says the LORD, "As the new wine is found in the cluster, and one said, 'Do not destroy it; for a blessing is in it': So I will do for My servants' sakes, that I may not destroy them all. ⁹ And I will bring forth a seed out of Jacob, and out of Judah an inheritor of My mountains: And My elect shall inherit it, and My servants shall dwell there.

¹ Come, and let us return to the LORD: For He has torn, and He will heal us; He has smitten, and He will bind us up.

¹⁰ And the pride of Israel testifies to his face: And they do not return to the LORD their God, nor seek Him on account of all this.

¹⁶ They return, but not to the most High: They are like a deceitful bow: Their princes shall fall by the sword on account of the rage of their tongue: This shall be their derision in the land of Egypt."

¹ O Israel, return to the LORD your God; for you have fallen by your iniquity.

²⁰ But brought word first to those of Damascus, and in Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works worthy for repentance.

¹⁴ But their minds were blinded: For till this day remains the same veil not taken away in the reading of the Old Testament; which veil is done away in Christ. ¹⁵ But even to this day, when Moses is read, the veil is upon their heart. ¹⁶ Nevertheless, when their heart shall turn to the Lord, the veil shall be taken away.

²⁵ Far be it from You to do hurt in this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: And that the righteous should be as the wicked, far be it from You: Shall the Judge of all the earth not do right?"

²⁰ Judah and Israel were many, as the sand which is by the sea in multitude, eating and drinking, and making merry.

¹¹ Then I said, "Lord, how long?" And He answered, "Until the cities are wasted without inhabitant, and the houses without man, and the land is utterly desolate,

⁸ And he shall pass through Judah; he shall overflow and go over, he shall reach even to the neck; and the stretching out of his wings shall fill the breadth of your land, O Immanuel.

¹⁰ Yet the defended city shall be desolate, and the habitation forsaken, and left like a wilderness: There the calf shall feed, and there he shall lie down, and consume its branches. ¹¹ When its boughs are withered, they shall be broken off: The women come, and set them on fire: For it is a people of no understanding: Therefore He that made them will not have mercy on them, and He that formed them will show them no favor.

¹⁵ Because you have said, "We have made a covenant with death, and with hell we are in agreement; when the overflowing whip shall pass through, it shall not come to us: For we have made lies our refuge, and we have hid ourselves under falsehood:" ¹⁶ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD, "Behold, I lay in Zion a stone for a foundation, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: He that believes shall not make haste. ¹⁷ I will also lay judgment on the line, and righteousness to the plummet: And the hail shall sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters shall overflow the hiding place. ¹⁸ And your covenant with death shall be disannulled, and your agreement with hell shall not stand; when the overflowing whip shall pass through, then you shall be trodden down by it. ¹⁹ From the time that it goes forth it shall take you: For morning by morning it shall pass over, by day and by night: And it shall be a terror only to understand the report. ²⁰ For the bed is shorter than a man can stretch himself upon: And the covering narrower than he can wrap himself in.

²⁷ And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: And in the middle of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that which is determined shall be poured upon the desolate."

¹⁰ Yet the number of the children of Israel shall be as the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured nor numbered; and it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said to them, 'You are not My people', there it shall be said to them, 'You are the sons of the living God.'

³¹ Because He has appointed a day, in which He will judge the world in righteousness by that Man whom He has ordained; of which He has given assurance to all men, in that He has raised Him from the dead."

⁵ But according to your hardness and impenitent heart you treasure up for yourself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;

⁵ But if our unrighteousness commends the righteousness of God, what shall we say? Is God unrighteous who takes vengeance? (I speak as a man.) ⁶ God forbid: For how then shall God judge the world?

²⁷ Isaiah also cries out concerning Israel, "Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a remnant shall be saved: ²⁸ For He will finish the work, and cut it short in righteousness: Because the Lord will make a short work upon the earth."

⁵ Even so then, at this present time there is also a remnant according to the election of grace. ⁶ And if by grace, then it is no longer of works: Otherwise grace is no longer grace. But if it is of works, then it is no longer grace: Otherwise work is no longer work.

⁸ and shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: The number of whom is as the sand of the sea.

¹ Behold, the LORD makes the earth empty, and makes it waste, and turns it upside down, and scatters abroad its inhabitants. ² And it shall be, as with the people, so with the priest; as with the servant, so with his master; as with the maid, so with her mistress; as with the buyer, so with the seller; as with the lender, so with the borrower; as with the taker of usury, so with the giver of usury to him. ³ The land shall be utterly emptied, and utterly spoiled: For the LORD has spoken this word. ⁴ The earth mourns and fades away, the world languishes and fades away, the haughty people of the earth do languish. ⁵ The earth is also defiled under its inhabitants; because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant. ⁶ Therefore the curse has devoured the earth, and those that dwell in it are desolate: Therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men are left. ⁷ The new wine mourns, the vine languishes, all the merry hearted do sigh. ⁸ The mirth of tambourine ceases, the noise of those who rejoice ends, the joy of the harp ceases. ⁹ They shall not drink wine with a song; strong drink shall be bitter to those who drink it. ¹⁰ The city of confusion is broken down: Every house is shut up, that no man may come in. ¹¹ There is a crying for wine in the streets; all joy is darkened, the mirth of the land is gone. ¹² In the city is left desolation, and the gate is smitten with destruction. ¹³ Thus when it shall be in the middle of the land among the people, there shall be as the shaking of an olive tree, and as the gleaning grapes when the vintage is done. ¹⁴ They shall lift up their voice, they shall sing for the majesty of the LORD, they shall cry aloud from the sea. ¹⁵ Why do you glorify the LORD in the fires, even the name of the LORD God of Israel in the isles of the sea. ¹⁶ From the uttermost part of the earth have we heard songs, even glory to the righteous. But I said, "My leanness, my leanness, woe to me! The treacherous dealers have dealt treacherously; yes, the treacherous dealers have dealt very treacherously. ¹⁷ Fear, and the pit, and the snare, are on you, O inhabitant of the earth. ¹⁸ And it shall come to pass, that he who flees from the noise of the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that comes up out of the middle of the pit shall be taken in the snare: For the windows from on high are open, and the foundations of the earth do shake. ¹⁹ The earth is utterly broken down, the earth is dissolved clean, the earth is moved exceedingly. ²⁰ The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, and shall be removed like a cottage; and the transgression of it shall be heavy upon it; and it shall fall, and not rise again. ²¹ And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORD shall punish the host of the high ones that are on high, and the kings of the earth upon the earth. ²² And they shall be gathered together, as prisoners are gathered in the pit, and shall be shut up in the prison, and after many days they shall be visited. ²³ Then the moon shall be confounded, and the sun ashamed, when the LORD of hosts shall reign in Mount Zion, and in Jerusalem, and before his elders gloriously.

²² Now therefore you shall not be mockers, lest your bands be made strong: For I have heard from the Lord GOD of hosts a consumption, even determined on the whole earth.

³⁵ And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: And He does according to His will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: And none can stay His hand, or say to Him, "What are You doing?"

²⁸ For He will finish the work, and cut it short in righteousness: Because the Lord will make a short work upon the earth."

¹⁰ Come on, let us deal wisely with them; lest they multiply, and it come to pass, that when there falls out any war, they also join to our enemies, and fight against us, and so get them up out of the land." ¹¹ Therefore they set taskmasters over them to afflict them with their burdens. And they built for Pharaoh treasure cities, Pithom and Raamses. ¹² But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew. And they were grieved because of the children of Israel. ¹³ And the Egyptians made the children of Israel to serve with rigor: ¹⁴ And they made their lives bitter with hard bondage, in mortar, and in brick, and in all manner of service in the field: All their service, in which they made them serve, was with rigor. ¹⁵ And the king of Egypt spoke to the Hebrew midwives, of which the name of the one was Shiphrah, and the name of the other Puah: ¹⁶ And he said, "When you do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them upon the stools; if it is a son, then you shall kill him: But if it is a daughter, then she shall live."

¹⁴ And the officers of the children of Israel, which Pharaoh's taskmasters had set over them, were beaten, and demanded, "Why have you not fulfilled your task in making brick both yesterday and today, as you did before?"

⁹ But the Egyptians pursued after them, all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, and his horsemen, and his army, and overtook them encamping by the sea, beside Pihahiroth, before Baalzephon.

²¹ And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided. ²² And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea on the dry ground: And the waters were a wall to them on their right hand, and on their left. ²³ And the Egyptians pursued, and went in after them to the midst of the sea, even all Pharaoh's horses, his chariots, and his horsemen. ²⁴ And it came to pass, that in the morning watch the LORD looked toward the armies of the Egyptians through the pillar of fire and of the cloud, and troubled the armies of the Egyptians, ²⁵ and took off their chariot wheels, that they drove them heavily: So that the Egyptians said, "Let us flee from the face of Israel; for the LORD fights against the Egyptians for them." ²⁶ And the LORD said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand over the sea, that the waters may come again upon the Egyptians, upon their chariots, and upon their horsemen." ²⁷ And Moses stretched forth his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to his strength when the morning appeared; and the Egyptians fled against it; and the LORD overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea. ²⁸ And the waters returned, and covered the chariots, and the horsemen, and all the army of Pharaoh that came into the sea after them; there did not remain so much as one of them. ²⁹ But the children of Israel walked upon dry land in the midst of the sea; and the waters were a wall to them on their right hand, and on their left. ³⁰ In this manner the LORD saved Israel out of the hand of the Egyptians that day; and Israel saw the Egyptians dead upon the seashore. ³¹ And Israel saw that great work which the LORD did upon the Egyptians: And the people feared the LORD, and believed the LORD, and his servant Moses.

⁶ Your right hand, O LORD, has become glorious in power: Your right hand, O LORD, has dashed the enemy in pieces. ⁷ And in the greatness of Your excellency You have overthrown those that rose up against You: You sent forth Your wrath, which consumed them as stubble. ⁸ And with the blast of Your nostrils the waters were gathered together, the floods stood upright as a heap, and the depths were congealed in the heart of the sea. ⁹ The enemy said, 'I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; my lust shall be satisfied upon them; I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them.' ¹⁰ You blew with Your wind, the sea covered them: They sank as lead in the mighty waters.

⁵ And of Zion it shall be said, "This and that man was born in her: And the Most High Himself shall establish her." ⁶ The LORD shall count, when He writes up the people, that this man was born there. Selah.

³ And it shall come to pass, that he who is left in Zion, and he who remains in Jerusalem, shall be called holy, even everyone that is recorded among the living in Jerusalem:

¹² "Do not answer, 'A conspiracy', to all those of whom this people shall suppose, 'A conspiracy'; neither should you fear their terribleness, nor be afraid. ¹³ Sanctify the LORD of hosts Himself; and let Him be your fear, and let Him be your dread.

⁴ For you have broken the yoke of his burden, and the staff of his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, as in the day of Midian.

⁶ Cry out and shout, you inhabitant of Zion: For great is the Holy One of Israel in the midst of you.

²⁹ Do not rejoice, whole Palestina, because the rod of him that smote you is broken: For out of the serpent's root shall come forth a cockatrice, and his fruit shall be a fiery flying serpent.

⁷ Has He smitten Israel, as He smote those who smote Israel? Or is He slain according to the slaughter of the Israelites that are slain by Him?

¹⁹ For the people shall dwell in Zion at Jerusalem: You shall weep no more: He will be very gracious to you at the voice of your cry; when He shall hear it, He will answer you.

¹⁴ The sinners in Zion are afraid; fearfulness has surprised the hypocrites. Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire? Who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings? ¹⁵ He who walks righteously, and speaks uprightly; he who despises the gain of oppressions, who shakes his hands from holding bribes, who stops his ears from hearing of blood, and shuts his eyes from seeing evil; ¹⁶ he shall dwell on high: His place of defense shall be the fortress of rocks: Bread shall be given him; his waters shall be sure.

⁴ Say to those that are of a fearful heart, "Be strong, fear not: Behold, your God will come with vengeance, even God with a recompense; He will come and save you."

⁶ And Isaiah said to them, "Thus you shall say to your master, 'Thus says the LORD, "Do not be afraid of the words that you have heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed Me.

²² This is the word which the LORD has spoken concerning him; 'The virgin, the daughter of Zion, has despised you, and laughed you to scorn; the daughter of Jerusalem has shaken her head at you.

³³ Therefore thus says the LORD concerning the king of Assyria, 'He shall not come into this city, nor shoot an arrow there, nor come before it with shields, nor cast a siege mound against it. ³⁴ By the way that he came, by the same he shall return, and shall not come into this city', said the LORD. ³⁵ 'For I will defend this city to save it for My own sake, and for My servant David's sake.' "

¹³ I bring near My righteousness; it shall not be far off, and My salvation shall not tarry: And I will place salvation in Zion for Israel My glory."

³ to appoint to those who mourn in Zion, to give to them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that He might be glorified.

²² But you have come to Mount Zion, and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels, ²³ to the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect, ²⁴ and to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaks better things than that of Abel.

³⁵ And it came to pass that night, that the angel of the LORD went out, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred eighty and five thousand: And when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses.

¹⁰ For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: Yes, you shall diligently consider his place, and it shall not be.

¹ And in that day you shall say, "O LORD, I will praise You: Though You were angry with me, Your anger is turned away, and You comforted me. ² Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: For the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; He also has become my salvation.

²⁴ The LORD of hosts has sworn, saying, "Surely as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed, so shall it stand: ²⁵ That I will break the Assyrian in my land, and tread him under foot on my mountains: Then his yoke shall depart from off them, and his burden depart from off their shoulders.

⁴ For thus the LORD has spoken to me, "As like the lion and the young lion roaring on his prey, when a multitude of shepherds are called forth against him, he will not be afraid of their voice, nor abase himself for the noise of them: So shall the LORD of hosts come down to fight for Mount Zion, and for itS Hill.

⁷ "For a small moment have I forsaken you; but with great mercies I will gather you.

³⁶ And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvelous things against the God of gods, and shall prosper until the indignation is accomplished: For that which is determined shall be done.

³⁷ For "Yet a little while, and He that shall come will come, and will not tarry.

¹⁶ But you, lift up your rod, and stretch out your hand over the sea, and divide it: And the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the middle of the sea.

²⁵ And they took two princes of the Midianites, Oreb and Zeeb; and they slew Oreb upon the rock Oreb, and Zeeb they slew at the winepress of Zeeb, and pursued Midian, and brought the heads of Oreb and Zeeb to Gideon on the other side of the Jordan.

¹⁰ and showed signs and wonders on Pharaoh, and on all his servants, and on all the people of his land: For you knew that they dealt proudly against them. So did you get you a name, as it is this day. ¹¹ And you did divide the sea before them, so that they went through the middle of the sea on the dry land; and their persecutors you threw into the deeps, as a stone into the mighty waters.

²³ Stir up Yourself, and awake to my judgment, even to my cause, my God and my Lord.

¹¹ Make their nobles like Oreb, and like Zeeb: Yes, all their princes like Zebah, and as Zalmunna:

¹⁰ And He saved them from the hand of him who hated them, and redeemed them from the hand of the enemy. ¹¹ And the waters covered their enemies: There was not one of them left.

²⁴ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD of hosts, "O My people that dwell in Zion, do not be afraid of the Assyrian: He shall smite you with a rod, and shall lift up his staff against you, after the manner of Egypt.

¹⁶ And there shall be a highway for the remnant of His people, which shall be left, from Assyria; as it was for Israel in the day that he came up out of the land of Egypt.

⁹ Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of the LORD; awake, as in the ancient days, in the generations of old. Was it not You who cut Rahab, and wounded the dragon? ¹⁰ Are You not the One who has dried the sea, the waters of the great deep; who has made the depths of the sea a way for the ransomed to pass over?

⁷ I saw the tents of Cushan in affliction: And the curtains of the land of Midian trembled.Cushan; or, Ethiopia ⁸ Was the LORD displeased against the rivers? Was Your anger against the rivers? Was Your wrath against the sea, that You rode upon Your horses and Your chariots of salvation? ⁹ Your bow was made quite naked, according to the oaths of the tribes, even Your word. Selah. You have cleaved the earth with rivers. ¹⁰ The mountains saw You, and they trembled: The overflowing of the water passed by: The deep uttered its voice, and lifted up its hands on high. ¹¹ The sun and moon stood still in their habitation: At the light of Your arrows they went, and at the shining of Your glittering spear. ¹² You marched through the land in indignation, You threshed the heathen in anger. ¹³ You went forth for the salvation of Your people, even for salvation with Your anointed; You wounded the head out of the house of the wicked, by discovering the foundation to the neck. Selah. ¹⁴ You struck through the head of his villages with his staffs: They came out as a whirlwind to scatter me: Their rejoicing was to even devour the poor secretly. ¹⁵ You walked through the sea with Your horses, through the heap of great waters.

¹⁸ And the nations were angry, and Your wrath has come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that You should give reward to Your servants the prophets, and to the saints, and those that fear Your name, small and great; and should destroy those which destroy the earth."

¹⁵ And out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should smite the nations: And He shall rule them with a rod of iron: And He treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.

²¹ All you mountains of Gilboa, let there be no dew, neither let there be rain upon you, nor fields of offerings: For there the shield of the mighty is vilely cast away, the shield of Saul, as though he had not been anointed with oil.

¹³ Now in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah did Sennacherib king of Assyria come up against all the fenced cities of Judah, and took them. ¹⁴ And Hezekiah king of Judah sent to the king of Assyria to Lachish, saying, "I have offended; return from me: That which you put on me will I bear. And the king of Assyria appointed to Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold.

¹ Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? ² The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against His anointed, saying, ³ "Let us break their bands apart, and cast away their cords from us."

⁶ "Yet I have set My king upon My holy hill of Zion."

⁶ Now know that I the LORD saves His anointed; He will hear him from His holy heaven with the saving strength of His right hand.

⁷ You love righteousness, and hate wickedness: Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You with the oil of gladness above Your fellows.

⁹ Behold, O God our shield, and look upon the face of Your anointed.

²⁰ I have found David My servant; with My holy oil I have anointed him: ²¹ With whom My hand shall be established: My arm also shall strengthen him. ²² The enemy shall not practice extortion upon him; nor the son of wickedness afflict him. ²³ And I will beat down his foes before his face, and plague those that hate him. ²⁴ But My faithfulness and My mercy shall be with him; and in My name his horn shall be exalted. ²⁵ I will set his hand also in the sea, and his right hand in the rivers. ²⁶ He shall cry to Me, 'You are my Father, my God, and the Rock of my salvation.' ²⁷ Also I will make him My firstborn, higher than the kings of the earth. ²⁸ I will keep My mercy for him forevermore, and My covenant shall stand fast with him. ²⁹ I will also make his seed to endure forever, and his throne as the days of heaven. ³⁰ If his children forsake My law, and do not walk in My judgments; ³¹ if they break My statutes, and do not keep My commandments; ³² then I will visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes. ³³ Nevertheless I will not utterly take My lovingkindness from him, nor will I allow My faithfulness to fail. ³⁴ I will not break My covenant, nor alter the thing that has gone out of My lips. ³⁵ Once I have sworn by My holiness, I will not lie to David. ³⁶ His seed shall endure forever, and his throne as the sun before Me. ³⁷ It shall be established forever like the moon, and like a faithful witness in heaven." Selah. ³⁸ But You have cast off and abhorred, You have been very angry with Your anointed. ³⁹ You have made void the covenant of Your servant: You have profaned his crown by casting it to the ground. ⁴⁰ You have broken down all his hedges; You have brought his strongholds to ruin. ⁴¹ All who pass by the way plunder him: He is a reproach to his neighbors. ⁴² You have set up the right hand of his adversaries; You have made all his enemies rejoice. ⁴³ You also have turned the edge of his sword, and have not made him to stand in the battle. ⁴⁴ You have made his glory to cease, and have thrown his throne down to the ground. ⁴⁵ You have shortened the days of his youth: You have covered him with shame. Selah. ⁴⁶ How long, LORD? Will You hide Yourself forever? Shall Your wrath burn like fire? ⁴⁷ Remember how short my time is: Why have You made all men in vain? ⁴⁸ What man is he that lives, and shall not see death? Shall he deliver his soul from the hand of the grave? Selah. ⁴⁹ Lord, where are Your former lovingkindnesses, which You swore to David in Your truth? ⁵⁰ Remember, Lord, the reproach of Your servants; how I bear in my bosom the reproach of all the mighty people; ⁵¹ with which Your enemies have reproached, O LORD; with which they have reproached the footsteps of Your anointed. ⁵² Blessed be the LORD forevermore. Amen, and Amen.

¹⁵ saying, "Do not touch My anointed, and do My prophets no harm."

¹⁰ For Your servant David's sake, do not turn away the face of Your anointed.

¹⁷ There I will make the horn of David to bud: I have ordained a lamp for My anointed. ¹⁸ I will clothe his enemies with shame: But his crown shall flourish upon himself."

³⁵ 'For I will defend this city to save it for My own sake, and for My servant David's sake.' "

²⁴ Seventy weeks are determined upon your people and upon your holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the Most Holy. ²⁵ Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem to the Messiah the Prince, shall be seven weeks, and sixty-two weeks: The street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times. ²⁶ And after sixty-two weeks Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself: And the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end of it shall be with a flood, and until the end of the war desolations are determined.

⁹ What do all you imagine against the LORD? He will make an utter end: Affliction shall not rise up the second time. ¹⁰ For while they are entwined together as thorns, and while they are drunken as drunkards, they shall be devoured as fully dried stubble. ¹¹ There is one that comes out of you, that imagines evil against the LORD, a wicked counselor.a wicked counselor: In Hebrew, a counselor of Belial ¹² Thus says the LORD; "Though they be quiet, and likewise many, yet they shall be cut down, when he shall pass through. Though I have afflicted you, I will afflict you no more. ¹³ For now I will break his yoke from off you, and will burst your bonds apart."

¹⁸ "The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are bruised,

⁴¹ He first found his own brother Simon, and said to him, "We have found the Messiah", which is, being interpreted, the Christ.

²⁷ "For truly against Your holy Child Jesus, whom You have anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together,

²⁰ But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things.

²⁷ But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that any man teach you: But as the same anointing teaches you about all things, and is truth, and is not a lie, and even as it has taught you, you shall abide in Him.

² And Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is beside Bethaven, on the east of Bethel, and spoke to them, saying, "Go up and view the country. And the men went up and viewed Ai.

²¹ So they turned and departed, and put the little ones and the domestic beasts and the carriage before them.

² saul chose himself three thousand men of Israel; of which two thousand were with Saul in Michmash and in Mount Bethel, and a thousand were with Jonathan in Gibeah of Benjamin: As for the rest of the people, he sent every man to his tent.

⁵ And the Philistines gathered themselves together to fight with Israel, thirty thousand chariots, and six thousand horsemen, and people as the sand which is upon the seashore in multitude: And they came up, and pitched in Michmash, eastward from Bethaven.

² And Saul tarried in the uttermost part of Gibeah under a pomegranate tree which is in Migron: And the people that were with him were about six hundred men;

⁵ The forefront of the one was situated northward in front of Michmash, and the other southward in front of Gibeah.

³¹ And they smote the Philistines that day from Michmash to Aijalon: And the people were very faint.

²² And David left his carriage in the hand of the keeper of the carriage, and ran into the army, and came and saluted his brothers.

³¹ The children also of Benjamin from Geba dwelled at Michmash, and Aija, and Bethel, and in their villages.

²⁴ and Chepharhaammonai, and Ophni, and Gaba; twelve cities with their villages: ²⁵ Gibeon, and Ramah, and Beeroth,

¹⁷ And out of the tribe of Benjamin, Gibeon with her suburbs, Geba with her suburbs,

¹² And his master said to him, "We will not turn aside here into the city of a stranger, that is not of the children of Israel; we will pass over to Gibeah. ¹³ And he said to his servant, Come, and let us draw near to one of these places to lodge all night, in Gibeah, or in Ramah. ¹⁴ And they passed on and went their way; and the sun went down on them when they were by Gibeah, which belongs to Benjamin. ¹⁵ And they turned aside thither, to go in and to lodge in Gibeah: And when he went in, he sat him down in a street of the city: For there was no man that took them into his house to lodging.

¹⁷ And his return was to Ramah; for his house was there; and he judged Israel there; and he built an altar to the LORD there.

⁴ Then the messengers came to Gibeah of Saul, and told the matter in the ears of the people: And all the people lifted up their voices, and wept.

¹⁶ And Saul, and his son Jonathan, and the people that were present with them, stayed in Gibeah of Benjamin: But the Philistines encamped in Michmash.

²³ And the garrison of the Philistines went out to the passage of Michmash.

⁴ And between the passages, by which Jonathan sought to go over to the Philistines' garrison, there was a sharp rock on the one side, and a sharp rock on the other side: And the name of the one was Bozez, and the name of the other Seneh.

³⁴ Then Samuel went to Ramah; and Saul went up to his house to Gibeah of Saul.

²³ The rest of all the acts of Asa, and all his might, and all that he did, and the cities which he built, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? Nevertheless in the time of his old age he was diseased in his feet.

¹⁵ Thus says the LORD; "A voice was heard in Ramah, lamentation, and bitter weeping; Rahel weeping for her children refused to be comforted for her children, because they were not."

⁸ Blow the cornet in Gibeah, and the trumpet in Ramah: Cry aloud at Bethaven, 'Behind you, O Benjamin!'

⁹ They have deeply corrupted themselves, as in the days of Gibeah: Therefore he will remember their iniquity, he will visit their sins.

⁹ "O Israel, you have sinned from the days of Gibeah: There they stood: The battle in Gibeah against the children of iniquity did not overtake them.

¹⁸ anathoth with her suburbs, and Almon with her suburbs; four cities.

⁷ Then the five men departed, and came to Laish, and saw the people that were in it, how they dwelled careless, after the manner of the Zidonians, quiet and secure; and there was no magistrate in the land, that might put them to shame in anything; and they were far from the Zidonians, and had no business with any man.

²⁹ And they called the name of the city Dan, after the name of Dan their father, who was born to Israel: However, the name of the city was Laish at the first.

⁴⁴ But Saul had given his daughter Michal, David's wife, to Phalti the son of Laish, who was of Gallim.

²⁶ And to Abiathar the priest said the king, Get you to Anathoth, to your own fields; for you are worthy of death: But I will not at this time put you to death, because you bore the ark of the LORD God before David my father, and because you have been afflicted in all in which my father was afflicted.

¹ The words of Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah, of the priests that were in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin:

⁸ So Hanameel my uncle's son came to me in the court of the prison according to the word of the LORD, and said to me, 'Buy my field, I implore you, that is in Anathoth, which is in the country of Benjamin: For the right of inheritance is yours, and the redemption is yours; buy it for yourself.' Then I knew that this was the word of the LORD.

³¹ and Ziklag, and Madmannah, and Sansannah,

¹ Then David came to Ahimelech the priest at Nob: And Ahimelech was afraid at the meeting of David, and said to him, "Why are you alone, and no man with you?"

¹⁹ And he smote Nob, the city of the priests, with the edge of the sword, both men and women, children and sucklings, and oxen, and donkeys, and sheep, with the edge of the sword.

³² And at Anathoth, Nob, Ananiah,

⁸ And the daughter of Zion is left as a cottage in a vineyard, as a lodge in a garden of cucumbers, as a besieged city.

² And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD's house shall be established on the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow to it.

¹⁵ And the LORD shall utterly destroy the tongue of the Egyptian sea; and with His mighty wind He shall shake His hand over the river, and shall smite it in the seven streams, and make men go over with dry sandals.

² Lift up a banner on the high mountain, exalt the voice to them, shake the hand, that they may go into the gates of the nobles.

¹⁶ In that day Egypt shall be like women: And it shall be afraid and fear because of the shaking of the hand of the LORD of hosts, which he shakes over it.

²³ They shall lay hold on bow and spear; they are cruel, and have no mercy; their voice roars like the sea; and they ride on horses, as men of war set in array against you, O daughter of Zion.

⁹ For behold, I will shake My hand upon them, and they shall be a pillage to their servants: And you all shall know that the LORD of hosts has sent me.

Even against the Holy One of Israel. ²³ By your messengers you have reproached the LORD, and have said, "With the multitude of my chariots I am come up to the height of the mountains, to the sides of Lebanon, and will cut down the tall cedar trees of it, and the choice fir trees of it: And I will enter into the lodgings of his borders, and into the forest of his Carmel. ²⁴ I have dig and drunk strange waters, and with the sole of my feet have I dried up all the rivers of besieged places. ²⁵ Have you not heard long ago how I have done it, and of ancient times that I have formed it? Now have I brought it to pass, that you should be to lay waste fenced cities into ruinous heaps. ²⁶ Therefore their inhabitants were of small power, they were dismayed and confounded; they were as the grass of the field, and as the green herb, as the grass on the house tops, and as grain blasted before it be grown up. ²⁷ But I know your stayed, and your going out, and your coming in, and your rage against me. ²⁸ Because your rage against me and your tumult has come up into my ears, therefore I will put my hook in your nose, and my bridle in your lips, and I will turn back by the way by which you came. ²⁹ And this shall be a sign to you, You shall eat this year such things as grow of themselves, and in the second year that which springs of the same; and in the third year sow you, and reap, and plant vineyards, and eat its fruits. ³⁰ And the remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah shall yet again take root downward, and bear fruit upward. ³¹ For out of Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant, and those that escape out of Mount Zion: The zeal of the LORD of hosts shall do this. ³² Therefore thus says the LORD concerning the king of Assyria, He shall not come into this city, nor shoot an arrow there, nor come before it with shield, nor cast a bank against it. ³³ By the way that he came, by the same shall he return, and shall not come into this city", says the LORD. ³⁴ For I will defend this city, to save it, for my own sake, and for my servant David's sake. ³⁵ And it came to pass that night, that the angel of the LORD went out, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred eighty and five thousand: And when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses. ³⁶ So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, and went and returned, and dwelled at Nineveh. ³⁷ And it came to pass, as he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons smote him with the sword: And they escaped into the land of Armenia. And Esarhaddon his son reigned in his stead.

¹¹ The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, and the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day. ¹² For the day of the LORD of hosts shall be on everyone that is proud and lofty, and on everyone that is lifted up; and he shall be brought low: ¹³ And on all the cedars of Lebanon, that are high and lifted up, and on all the oaks of Bashan, ¹⁴ and on all the high mountains, and on all the hills that are lifted up, ¹⁵ and on every high tower, and on every fenced wall, ¹⁶ and on all the ships of Tarshish, and on all pleasant pictures. ¹⁷ And the loftiness of man shall be bowed down, and the haughtiness of men shall be made low: And the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day.

²⁴ By your servants you have reproached the Lord, and have said, "By the multitude of my chariots I have come up to the height of the mountains, to the sides of Lebanon; and I will cut down the tall cedars of it, and its choice fir trees: And I will enter into the height of his border, and the forest of his Carmel. ²⁵ I have dug, and drunk water; and with the sole of my feet I have dried up all the rivers of the besieged places." ²⁶ Have you not heard long ago, how I have done it; and of ancient times, that I have formed it? ⁹ Yet I destroyed the Amorite before them, whose height was like the height of the cedars, and he was strong as the oaks; yet I destroyed his fruit from above, and his roots from beneath.

¹¹ For whoever exalts himself shall be abased; and he that humbles himself shall be exalted."

²⁰ Bless the LORD, you His angels, that excel in strength, that do His commandments, hearkening to the voice of His word.

⁸ "Then the Assyrian shall fall by the sword, not of a mighty man; and the sword shall devour him, not of a contemptible man; but he shall flee from the sword, and his young men shall be routed.

⁷ And I will prepare destroyers against you, everyone with his weapons: And they shall cut down your choice cedars, and cast them into the fire.

²² The sound of it is like a serpent as it goes; for they shall march with an army, and come against her with axes, as hewers of wood. ²³ They shall cut down her forest', said the LORD, 'though it cannot be searched; because they are more than the grasshoppers, and are innumerable.'

² There shall be no more praise of Moab: In Heshbon they have devised evil against it; 'Come, and let us cut it off from being a nation.' Also you shall be cut down, O Madmen; the sword shall pursue you.

¹³ I saw in the visions of my head upon my bed, and behold, a watcher and a holy one came down from heaven; ¹⁴ he cried aloud, and said thus, 'Hew down the tree, and cut off his branches, shake off his leaves, and scatter his fruit: Let the beasts get away from under it, and the birds from his branches:

²³ And as the king saw a watcher and a holy one coming down from heaven, and saying, 'Hew the tree down, and destroy it; yet leave the stump of its roots in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the dew of heaven, and let his portion be with the wild beasts of the field, until seven times pass over him;'

¹² Thus says the LORD; "Though they be quiet, and likewise many, yet they shall be cut down, when he shall pass through. Though I have afflicted you, I will afflict you no more.

¹ Open your doors, O Lebanon, that the fire may devour your cedars. ² Howl, fir tree; for the cedar has fallen; because the mighty are ruined: Howl, O all you oaks of Bashan; for the forest of the vintage has come down.

⁷ and to you who are troubled, rest with us; when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels,

¹¹ Whereas angels, which are greater in power and might, do not bring a railing accusation against them before the Lord.

¹ And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud: And a rainbow was upon his head, and his face was as if it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire:

²¹ And a mighty angel took up a stone like a large millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, "Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all.
