⁴ I, Nebuchadnezzar, was at rest in my house, and flourishing in my palace:

⁶ And in my prosperity I said, "I shall never be moved." ⁷ LORD, by Your favor You have made my mountain to stand strong: You hid Your face, and I was troubled.

⁷ And you said, 'I shall be a lady forever': So that you did not take these things to your heart, neither did remember the latter end of it. ⁸ Therefore hear this now, you who are given to pleasures, that dwell carelessly, that say in your heart, 'I am, and none other besides me; I shall not sit as a widow, neither shall I know the loss of children':

¹² "Come all of you", they say, "I will fetch wine, and we will fill ourselves with strong drink; and tomorrow shall be like today, and much more abundant."

¹¹ Moab has been at ease from his youth, and he has settled on his lees, and has not been emptied from vessel to vessel, neither has he gone into captivity: Therefore his taste remained in him, and his scent is not changed.

² "Son of man, say to the prince of Tyrus, 'Thus says the Lord GOD; "Because your heart is lifted up, and you have said, 'I am a God, I sit in the seat of God, in the midst of the seas'; yet you are a man, and not God, though you set your heart as the heart of God: ³ Behold, you are wiser than Daniel; there is no secret that they can hide from you: ⁴ With your wisdom and with your understanding you have gotten your riches, and have gotten gold and silver into your treasures: ⁵ By your great wisdom and by your traffic you have increased your riches, and your heart is lifted up because of your riches:"

¹⁷ Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty, you have corrupted your wisdom by reason of your brightness: I will cast you to the ground, I will lay you before kings, that they may behold you.

³ Speak, and say, 'Thus says the Lord GOD; "Behold, I am against you, Pharaoh king of Egypt, the great dragon who lies in the middle of his rivers, who has said, 'My river is my own, and I have made it for myself.'

¹² And it shall come to pass at that time, that I will search Jerusalem with candles, and punish the men that are settled on their lees: That say in their heart, 'The LORD will not do good, neither will He do evil.'

¹⁹ And I will say to my soul, "Soul, you have a great many goods laid up for many years; take your ease, eat, drink, and be merry." ' ²⁰ But God said to him, 'You fool, this night your soul shall be required of you: Then whose shall those things be, which you have provided?'

² For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord comes as a thief in the night. ³ For when they shall say, "Peace and safety"; then sudden destruction comes upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
