¹ Belshazzar the king made a great feast to a thousand of his lords, and drank wine before the thousand. ² Belshazzar, while he tasted the wine, commanded to bring the golden and silver vessels which his father Nebuchadnezzar had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem; that the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, might drink from them. ³ Then they brought the golden vessels that were taken out of the temple of the house of God which was at Jerusalem; and the king, and his princes, his wives and his concubines, drank from them. ⁴ They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone. ⁵ In the same hour came forth fingers of a man's hand, and wrote in front of the candlestick upon the plaster of the wall of the king's palace: And the king saw the part of the hand that wrote. ⁶ Then the king's countenance was changed, and his thoughts troubled him, so that the joints of his loins were loosened, and his knees knocked against one another. ⁷ The king cried aloud to bring in the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers. And the king spoke, and said to the wise men of Babylon, "Whoever shall read this writing, and show me the interpretation of it, shall be clothed with scarlet, and have a chain of gold around his neck, and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom." ⁸ Then all the king's wise men came in: But they could not read the writing, nor make known to the king the interpretation of it. ⁹ Then king Belshazzar was greatly troubled, and his countenance was changed in him, and his lords were astonished. ¹⁰ Now the queen came into the banquet house because of the words of the king and his lords: And the queen spoke and said, "O king, live forever: Do not let your thoughts trouble you, nor let your countenance be changed. ¹¹ There is a man in your kingdom, in whom is the spirit of the holy gods; and in the days of your father light and understanding and wisdom, like the wisdom of the gods, was found in him; whom the king Nebuchadnezzar your father, the king, I say, "your father made master of the magicians, astrologers, Chaldeans, and soothsayers; ¹² in as much as an excellent spirit, and knowledge, and understanding, interpreting of dreams, and explaining of hard sentences, and the dissolving of doubts, were found in the same Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar: Now let Daniel be called, and he will show the interpretation." ¹³ Then Daniel was brought in before the king. And the king spoke and said to Daniel, "Are you that Daniel, which is of the children of captivity of Judah, whom my father the king brought out of Judah? ¹⁴ I have even heard of you, that the spirit of the gods is in you, and that light and understanding and excellent wisdom are found in you. ¹⁵ And now the wise men, the astrologers, have been brought in before me, that they should read this writing, and make known to me the interpretation of it: But they could not show the interpretation of the thing: ¹⁶ And I have heard of you, that you can make interpretations, and dissolve doubts: Now if you can read the writing, and make known to me the interpretation of it, you shall be clothed with scarlet and have a chain of gold around your neck, and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom." ¹⁷ Then Daniel answered and said before the king, "Let your gifts be to yourself, and give your rewards to another; yet I will read the writing to the king, and make known to him the interpretation. ¹⁸ O king, the Most High God gave Nebuchadnezzar your father a kingdom, and majesty, and glory, and honor: ¹⁹ And for the majesty that He gave him, all people, nations, and languages, trembled and feared before him: He slew whom he would, and he kept alive whom he would; and he set up whom he would; and he put down whom he would. ²⁰ But when his heart was lifted up, and his mind hardened in pride, he was disposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him: ²¹ And he was driven from the sons of men; and his heart was made like the beasts, and his dwelling was with the wild donkeys: They fed him with grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven; until he knew that the Most High God ruled in the kingdom of men, and that He appoints over it whomever He will. ²² And you his son, O Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart, though you knew all this; ²³ but have lifted up yourself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of His house before you, and you, and your lords, your wives, and your concubines, have drunk wine from them; and have praised the gods of silver and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which do not see, nor hear, nor know: And the God in Whose hand is your breath, and Whose are all your ways, you have not glorified: ²⁴ Then the part of the hand was sent from Him; and this writing was written. ²⁵ And this is the writing that was written: MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN. ²⁶ This is the interpretation of the thing: MENE; God has numbered your kingdom, and finished it. ²⁷ TEKEL; you are weighed in the balances, and are found wanting. ²⁸ PERES; your kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians." ²⁹ Then Belshazzar commanded, and they clothed Daniel with scarlet, and put a chain of gold around his neck, and made a proclamation concerning him, that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom. ³⁰ During that night Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans was slain. ³¹ And Darius the Median took the kingdom, being about sixty-two years old.

²⁰ And it came to pass the third day, which was Pharaoh's birthday, that he made a feast to all his servants: And he lifted up the head of the chief butler and of the chief baker among his servants.

³ in the third year of his reign, he made a feast to all his princes and his servants; the power of Persia and Media, the nobles and princes of the provinces, being before him:

⁴ My heart panted, fearfulness affrighted me: The night of my pleasure He has turned into fear to me. ⁵ Prepare the table, watch in the watchtower, eat, drink: Arise, you princes, and anoint the shield.

¹² And in that day the Lord GOD of hosts did call for weeping, and for mourning, and for baldness, and for girding with sackcloth:

¹⁴ And it was revealed in my ears by the LORD of hosts, "Surely this iniquity shall not be purged from you till you die", said the Lord GOD of hosts.

³⁹ In their heat I will make their feasts, and I will make them drunken, that they may rejoice, and sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake", said the LORD.

⁵⁷ And I will make her princes drunk, and her wise men, her captains, and her rulers, and her mighty men: And they shall sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake", said the King, whose name is the LORD of hosts.

¹⁰ For while they are entwined together as thorns, and while they are drunken as drunkards, they shall be devoured as fully dried stubble.

²¹ Then when a convenient day came, Herod made a supper on his birthday to his lords, high captains, and chief estate owners of Galilee; ²² And when Herodias' daughter came in, and danced, and pleased Herod and those who sat with him, the king said to the damsel, "Ask of me whatever you desire, and I will give it to you."

⁷ And David said to him, "Fear not: For I will surely show you kindness for Jonathan your father's sake, and will restore you all the land of Saul your father; and you shall eat bread at my table continually.

²⁵ In the twelfth year of Joram the son of Ahab king of Israel did Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah begin to reign. ²⁶ Two and twenty years old was Ahaziah when he began to reign; and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Athaliah, the daughter of Omri king of Israel. ²⁷ And he walked in the way of the house of Ahab, and did evil in the sight of the LORD, as did the house of Ahab: For he was the son-in-law of the house of Ahab.

¹³ And he carried out there all the treasures of the house of the LORD, and the treasures of the king's house, and cut in pieces all the vessels of gold which Solomon king of Israel had made in the temple of the LORD, as the LORD had said.

¹⁵ And the fire-pans, and the bowls, and such things as were of gold, in gold, and of silver, in silver, the captain of the guard took away.

²⁰ And after her he took Maachah the daughter of Absalom; which bore him Abijah, and Attai, and Ziza, and Shelomith.

¹⁶ And also concerning Maachah the mother of Asa the king, he removed her from being queen, because she had made an idol in a grove: And Asa cut down her idol, and stamped it, and burnt it at the brook Kidron.

¹⁰ And when the year was expired, king Nebuchadnezzar sent, and brought him to Babylon, with the goodly vessels of the house of the LORD, and made Zedekiah his brother king over Judah and Jerusalem.

¹⁸ And all the vessels of the house of God, great and small, and the treasures of the house of the LORD, and the treasures of the king, and of his princes; all these he brought to Babylon.

⁷ Also Cyrus the king brought forth the vessels of the house of the LORD, which Nebuchadnezzar had brought forth out of Jerusalem, and had put them in the house of his gods; ⁸ even those did Cyrus king of Persia bring forth by the hand of Mithredath the treasurer, and numbered them to Sheshbazzar, the prince of Judah. ⁹ And this is the number of them: Thirty chargers of gold, a thousand chargers of silver, nine and twenty knives, ¹⁰ thirty basins of gold, silver basins of a second sort four hundred and ten, and other vessels a thousand. ¹¹ All the vessels of gold and of silver were five thousand and four hundred. All these did Sheshbazzar bring up with them of the captivity that were brought up from Babylon to Jerusalem.

⁷ And all nations shall serve him, and his son, and his son's son, until the very time of his land comes: And then many nations and great kings shall enservant him.

¹⁶ Also I spoke to the priests and to all this people, saying, "Thus says the LORD; 'Do not listen to the words of your prophets who prophesy to you, saying, "Behold, the vessels of the LORD's house shall now shortly be brought again from Babylon": For they prophesy a lie to you. ¹⁷ Do not listen to them; serve the king of Babylon, and live: Why should this city be laid waste? ¹⁸ But if they are prophets, and if the word of the LORD is with them, let them now make intercession to the LORD of hosts, that the vessels which are left in the house of the LORD, and in the house of the king of Judah, and at Jerusalem, do not go to Babylon.' ¹⁹ For thus says the LORD of hosts concerning the pillars, and concerning the sea, and concerning the bases, and concerning the residue of the vessels that remain in this city. ²⁰ Which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon did not take, when he carried away captive Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim king of Judah from Jerusalem to Babylon, and all the nobles of Judah and Jerusalem; ²¹ yes, thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, concerning the vessels that remain in the house of the LORD, and in the house of the king of Judah and of Jerusalem; ²² 'They shall be carried to Babylon, and they shall be there until the day that I visit them", says the LORD; 'then I will bring them up, and restore them to this place.' "

¹⁹ And the basins, and the fire-pans, and the bowls, and the caldrons, and the candlesticks, and the spoons, and the cups; that which was of gold in gold, and that which was of silver in silver, the captain of the guard took away.

² And the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand, with part of the vessels of the house of God: Which he carried into the land of Shinar to the house of his god; and he brought the vessels into the treasure house of his god.

⁴ They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone.

¹¹ There is a man in your kingdom, in whom is the spirit of the holy gods; and in the days of your father light and understanding and wisdom, like the wisdom of the gods, was found in him; whom the king Nebuchadnezzar your father, the king, I say, "your father made master of the magicians, astrologers, Chaldeans, and soothsayers;

¹³ Then Daniel was brought in before the king. And the king spoke and said to Daniel, "Are you that Daniel, which is of the children of captivity of Judah, whom my father the king brought out of Judah?

¹⁸ O king, the Most High God gave Nebuchadnezzar your father a kingdom, and majesty, and glory, and honor:

²³ but have lifted up yourself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of His house before you, and you, and your lords, your wives, and your concubines, have drunk wine from them; and have praised the gods of silver and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which do not see, nor hear, nor know: And the God in Whose hand is your breath, and Whose are all your ways, you have not glorified:

²³ Then the lords of the Philistines gathered them together to offer a great sacrifice to Dagon their god, and to rejoice: For they said, "Our god has delivered our enemy Samson into our hand." ²⁴ And when the people saw him, they praised their god: For they said, "Our god has delivered our enemy into our hands, and the destroyer of our country, which slew many of us."

⁴ Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men's hands. ⁵ They have mouths, but they do not speak; they have eyes, but they do not see; ⁶ they have ears, but they do not hear: They have noses, but they do not smell: ⁷ They have hands, but they do not handle: They have feet, but they do not walk: Neither do they speak through their throat. ⁸ Those who make them are similar to them; so is everyone that trusts in them.

¹⁵ The idols of the heathen are silver and gold, the work of men's hands. ¹⁶ They have mouths, but they do not speak; they have eyes, but they do not see; ¹⁷ they have ears, but they do not hear; neither is there any breath in their mouths. ¹⁸ Those that make them are like them: So is everyone that trusts in them.

¹⁹ The workman melts a graven image, and the goldsmith spreads it over with gold, and casts silver chains. ²⁰ He who is so impoverished that he has no oblation chooses a tree that will not rot; he seeks for himself a cunning workman to prepare a graven image, that shall not be moved.

⁸ I am the LORD: That is My name: And My glory I will not give to another, neither My praise to graven images.

¹⁷ They shall be turned back, they shall be greatly ashamed, who trust in graven images, that say to the molten images, "you are our gods."

⁶ They lavish gold out of the bag, and weigh silver in the balance, and hire a goldsmith; and he makes it a god: They fall down, yes, they worship. ⁷ They bear him on the shoulder, they carry him, and set him in his place, and he stands; from his place he shall not move: Yes, one shall cry to him, yet he cannot answer, nor save him out of his trouble.

⁴ They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, so that it does not move. ⁵ They are upright like the palm tree, but do not speak: They must be carried, because they cannot go by themselves. Do not be afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither is it in them to do good. ⁶ For as much as there is none like to You, O LORD; You are great, and Your name is great in might. ⁷ Who would not fear you, O King of nations? For to you it does appertain: For among all the wise men of the nations, and in all their kingdoms, there is none like to You. ⁸ But they are altogether brutish and foolish: The wooden idol is a doctrine of vanities. ⁹ Silver spread into plates is brought from Tarshish, and gold from Uphaz, the work of the workman, and of the hands of the founder: Blue and purple is their clothing: They are all the work of cunning men.

¹ Nebuchadnezzar the king made an image of gold, whose height was sixty cubits, and its breadth six cubits: He set it up in the plain of Dura, in the province of Babylon.60 Hebrew cubits (of the scriptures) high is approximately 109.5 feet, or 33.4m; and 6 Hebrew cubits wide is approximately 11 feet, or 3.3m: Per Noah Webster's 1828 Dictionary and Easton's Illustrated Bible Dictionary, Appendix VI. ² Then Nebuchadnezzar the king sent to gather together the princes, the governors, and the captains, the judges, the treasurers, the counselors, the sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces, to come to the dedication of the image which Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up. ³ Then the princes, the governors, and captains, the judges, the treasurers, the counselors, the sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces, were gathered together to the dedication of the image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up; and they stood before the image that Nebuchadnezzar had set up. ⁴ Then a herald cried aloud, "To you it is commanded, O people, nations, and languages, ⁵ that at what time you hear the sound of the horn, flute, harp, sackbut trumpet, psaltery, dulcimer, and all kinds of music, you fall down and worship the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king has set up: ⁶ And whoever does not fall down and worship shall in the same hour be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace." ⁷ Therefore at that time, when all the people heard the sound of the horn, flute, harp, sackbut trumpet, psaltery, and all kinds of music, all the people, the nations, and the languages, fell down and worshiped the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up. ⁸ For this reason at that time certain Chaldeans came near, and accused the Jews. ⁹ They spoke and said to the king Nebuchadnezzar, "O king, live forever. ¹⁰ You, O king, have made a decree, that every man who shall hear the sound of the horn, flute, harp, sackbut trumpet, psaltery, dulcimer, and all kinds of music, shall fall down and worship the golden image: ¹¹ And whoever does not fall down and worship, that he should be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. ¹² There are certain Jews whom you have set over the affairs of the province of Babylon, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego; these men, O king, have not regarded you: They do not serve your gods, nor worship the golden image which you have set up." ¹³ Then Nebuchadnezzar in his rage and fury commanded to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Then they brought these men before the king. ¹⁴ Nebuchadnezzar spoke and said to them, "Is it true, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, you do not serve my gods, nor worship the golden image which I have set up? ¹⁵ Now if you are ready that at what time you hear the sound of the horn, flute, harp, sackbut trumpet, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of music, you fall down and worship the image which I have made; well: But if you do not worship, you shall be cast the same hour into the midst of a burning fiery furnace; and who is the God that shall deliver you out of my hands?" ¹⁶ Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered and said to the king, "O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not anxious to answer you in this matter. ¹⁷ If that is the case, our God Whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us out of your hand, O king. ¹⁸ But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods nor worship the golden image which you have set up."

³⁷ Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven, all whose works are truth, and His ways judgment: And those who walk in pride He is able to abase.

⁸ For she did not know that I gave her grain, and wine, and oil, and multiplied her silver and gold, which they prepared for Baal. ⁹ Therefore I will return, and take away My grain in its time, and My wine in its season, and will recover My wool and My flax given to cover her nakedness. ¹⁰ And now I will reveal her lewdness in the sight of her lovers, and none shall deliver her out of My hand. ¹¹ I will also cause all her mirth to cease, her feast days, her new moons, and her Sabbaths, and all her solemn feasts. ¹² And I will destroy her vines and her fig trees, about which she has said, 'These are my rewards that my lovers have given me': And I will make them a forest, and the wild beasts of the field shall eat them. ¹³ And I will visit upon her the days of Baalim, in which she burned incense to them, and she decked herself with her earrings and her jewels, and she went after her lovers, and forgot Me", says the LORD.

¹⁹ Woe to him that says to the wood, 'Awake'; to the dumb stone, 'Arise, it shall teach!' Behold, it is laid over with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in the midst of it.

²⁹ In as much as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is similar to gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device.

²⁴ For a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith, who made silver shrines for Diana, brought no small profit to the craftsmen; ²⁵ whom he called together with the workmen of like occupation, and said, "Sirs, you know that by this craft we have our wealth. ²⁶ Moreover, you see and hear that not only at Ephesus, but throughout almost all Asia, this Paul has persuaded and turned away many people, saying that they are not gods, which are made with hands: ²⁷ So that not only is our craft in danger of being disregarded as nothing; but also that the temple of the great goddess Diana should be despised, and her magnificence should be destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worship." ²⁸ Now when they heard these words, they were full of wrath, and cried out, saying, "Great is Diana of the Ephesians."

²⁰ And the rest of the men who were not killed by these plagues yet did not repent of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: Which can neither see, nor hear, nor walk: ²¹ Neither did they repent of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts.

⁵ that the triumphing of the wicked is short, and the joy of the hypocrite but for a moment?

³⁰ they were not estranged from their lust. But while their food was yet in their mouths, ³¹ the wrath of God came upon them, and slew the fattest of them, and smote down the chosen men of Israel.

¹ He, that often being reproved hardens his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.

³¹ While the word was in the king's mouth, there fell a voice from heaven, saying, "O king Nebuchadnezzar, to you it is spoken; the kingdom has departed from you.

³³ The same hour the thing was fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar: And he was driven from men, and ate grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, until his hairs were grown like eagles' feathers, and his nails like birds' claws.

⁸ Then all the king's wise men came in: But they could not read the writing, nor make known to the king the interpretation of it.

¹⁵ And now the wise men, the astrologers, have been brought in before me, that they should read this writing, and make known to me the interpretation of it: But they could not show the interpretation of the thing:

¹⁹ And I will say to my soul, "Soul, you have a great many goods laid up for many years; take your ease, eat, drink, and be merry." ' ²⁰ But God said to him, 'You fool, this night your soul shall be required of you: Then whose shall those things be, which you have provided?'

¹⁴ blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to His cross;

² For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord comes as a thief in the night. ³ For when they shall say, "Peace and safety"; then sudden destruction comes upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

¹² And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life: And the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. ¹³ And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead that were in them: And they were judged, every man according to their works. ¹⁴ Then death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. ¹⁵ And whoever was not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.

²⁰ The wicked man travails with pain all his days, and the number of years is hidden to the oppressor. ²¹ A dreadful sound is in his ears: In prosperity the destroyer shall come on him. ²² He believes not that he shall return out of darkness, and he is waited for of the sword. ²³ He wanders abroad for bread, saying, "Where is it? He knows that the day of darkness is ready at his hand. ²⁴ Trouble and anguish shall make him afraid; they shall prevail against him, as a king ready to the battle. ²⁵ For he stretches out his hand against God, and strengthens himself against the Almighty. ²⁶ He runs upon him, even on his neck, upon the thick bosses of his buckler shields: ²⁷ Because he covers his face with his fatness, and makes bulges of fat on his flanks.

¹⁹ Because he has oppressed and has forsaken the poor; because he has violently taken away a house which he built not; ²⁰ surely he shall not feel quietness in his belly, he shall not save of that which he desired. ²¹ There shall none of his meat be left; therefore shall no man look for his goods. ²² In the fullness of his sufficiency he shall be in straits: Every hand of the wicked shall come on him. ²³ When he is about to fill his belly, God shall cast the fury of his wrath on him, and shall rain it on him while he is eating. ²⁴ He shall flee from the iron weapon, and the bow of steel shall strike him through. ²⁵ It is drawn, and comes out of the body; yes, the glittering sword comes out of his gall: Terrors are on him. ²⁶ All darkness shall be hid in his secret places: A fire not blown shall consume him; it shall go ill with him that is left in his tabernacle. ²⁷ The heaven shall reveal his iniquity; and the earth shall rise up against him.

²³ Let their eyes be darkened, that they do not see; and make their loins continually to shake.

¹⁸ Surely you have set them in slippery places: You cast them down into destruction. ¹⁹ How are they brought into desolation, as in a moment! They are utterly consumed with terrors. ²⁰ As a dream when one awakes; so, O Lord, when You awake, you shall despise their image.

²⁷ None shall be weary nor stumble among them; none shall slumber nor sleep; neither shall the girdle of their loins be loosed, nor the lace of their shoes be broken:

⁷ Therefore all hands shall be faint, and every man's heart shall melt: ⁸ And they shall be afraid: Pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them; they shall be in pain as a woman that travails: They shall be amazed at one another; their faces shall be as flames.

² A grievous vision is declared to me; the treacherous dealer deals treacherously, and the spoiler spoils. Go up, O Elam: Besiege, O Media; I have made all her sighing to cease. ³ Therefore my loins are filled with pain: Pangs have taken hold of me, as the pangs of a woman that travails: I was bowed down at the hearing of it; I was dismayed at the seeing of it. ⁴ My heart panted, fearfulness affrighted me: The night of my pleasure He has turned into fear to me.

³ Strengthen the weak hands, and confirm the feeble knees.

¹⁷ All hands shall be feeble, and all knees shall be weak like water.

⁷ And it shall be, when they say to you, 'Why do you sigh?' That you shall answer, 'For the tidings; because it comes: And every heart shall melt, and all hands shall be feeble, and every spirit shall faint, and all knees shall be weak like water': Behold, it comes, and shall be brought to pass", said the Lord GOD.

¹ And in the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar, Nebuchadnezzar dreamed dreams, with which his spirit was troubled, and his sleep broke from him.

¹⁹ Then Nebuchadnezzar was full of fury, and the expression of his face was changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego: Therefore he spoke, and commanded that they should heat the furnace seven times more than it was usually heated.

⁵ I saw a dream which made me afraid, and the thoughts upon my bed and the visions of my head troubled me.

¹⁹ Then Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, was astonished for one hour, and his thoughts troubled him. The king spoke, and said, "Belteshazzar, do not let the dream, or the interpretation of it trouble you." Belteshazzar answered and said, "My lord, the dream be to those who hate you, and the interpretation of it to your enemies.

⁹ Then king Belshazzar was greatly troubled, and his countenance was changed in him, and his lords were astonished. ¹⁰ Now the queen came into the banquet house because of the words of the king and his lords: And the queen spoke and said, "O king, live forever: Do not let your thoughts trouble you, nor let your countenance be changed.

²⁸ At this time is the end of the matter. As for me Daniel, my thoughts troubled me greatly, and my countenance changed in me: But I kept the matter in my heart."

¹⁰ She is empty, and void, and wasted: And the heart melts, and the knees smite together, and much pain is in all loins, and the faces of them all gather blackness.

¹² Therefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees;

⁸ And it came to pass in the morning that his spirit was troubled; and he sent and called for all the magicians of Egypt, and all the wise men of it: And Pharaoh told them his dream; but there was none that could interpret them to Pharaoh.

⁴² And Pharaoh took off his ring from his hand, and put it upon Joseph's hand, and arrayed him in clothing of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck; ⁴³ and he made him to ride in the second chariot which he had; and they cried out before him, "Bow the knee": And he made him ruler over all the land of Egypt. ⁴⁴ And Pharaoh said to Joseph, "I am Pharaoh, and without you no man shall lift up his hand or foot in all the land of Egypt."

⁷ And the elders of Moab and the elders of Midian departed with the rewards of divination in their hand; and they came to Balaam, and spoke to him the words of Balak.

¹⁷ For I will promote you to very great honor, and I will do whatever you say to me: Come therefore, I implore you, curse me this people.

¹¹ Therefore now flee you to your place: I thought to promote you to great honor; but, lo, the LORD has kept you back from honor.

²⁵ And the men of Israel said, "Have you seen this man that has come up? Surely he has come up to defy Israel: And it shall be, that the man who kills him, the king will enrich him with great riches, and will give him his daughter, and make his father's house free in Israel."

¹ After these things king Ahasuerus promoted Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, and advanced him, and set his seat above all the princes that were with him.

² And all the acts of his power and of his might, and the declaration of the greatness of Mordecai, to which the king advanced him, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Media and Persia? ³ For Mordecai the Jew was next to king Ahasuerus, and great among the Jews, and accepted out of the multitude of his brethren, seeking the wealth of his people, and speaking peace to all his seed.

⁹ For they shall be an ornament of grace to your head, and necklaces around your neck. ¹⁰ Your cheeks are comely with rows of jewels, your neck with chains of gold.

²⁵ who frustrates the tokens of the liars, and makes diviners mad; who turns wise men backward, and makes their knowledge foolish; ²⁶ that confirms the word of His servant, and performs the counsel of His messengers; that said to Jerusalem, "You shall be inhabited"; and to the cities of Judah, "You shall be built", and I will raise up the decayed places of it:

¹³ You are wearied in the multitude of your counsels. Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators, stand up, and save you from these things that shall come on you.

¹¹ I decked you also with ornaments, and I put bracelets upon your hands, and a chain on your neck.

² Then the king commanded to call to the magicians, and the astrologers, and the sorcerers, and the Chaldeans, to show the king his dreams. So they came and stood before the king.

⁶ But if you make known the dream, and the interpretation of it, you shall receive from me gifts and rewards and great honor: Therefore make known to me the dream, and the interpretation of it."

⁴⁸ Then the king made Daniel a great man, and gave him many great gifts, and made him ruler over the whole province of Babylon, and chief of the governors over all the wise men of Babylon.

⁶ Therefore I made a decree to bring in all the wise men of Babylon before me, that they might make known to me the interpretation of the dream. ⁷ Then the magicians, the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers came in: And I told the dream before them; but they did not make the interpretation of it known to me.

¹⁴ he cried aloud, and said thus, 'Hew down the tree, and cut off his branches, shake off his leaves, and scatter his fruit: Let the beasts get away from under it, and the birds from his branches:

¹⁶ And I have heard of you, that you can make interpretations, and dissolve doubts: Now if you can read the writing, and make known to me the interpretation of it, you shall be clothed with scarlet and have a chain of gold around your neck, and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom."

²⁹ Then Belshazzar commanded, and they clothed Daniel with scarlet, and put a chain of gold around his neck, and made a proclamation concerning him, that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom.

² and over them were three presidents; of whom Daniel was the first: That the princes might give accounts to them, and the king should have no damage. ³ Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.

⁹ But these two things shall come to you in a moment in one day, the loss of children, and widowhood: They shall come on you in their perfection for the multitude of your sorceries, and for the great abundance of your enchantments.

¹² Stand now with your enchantments, and with the multitude of your sorceries, in which you have labored from your youth; if so perhaps you shall be able to profit, if so perhaps you may prevail. ¹³ You are wearied in the multitude of your counsels. Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators, stand up, and save you from these things that shall come on you. ¹⁴ Behold, they shall be as stubble; the fire shall burn them; they shall not deliver themselves from the power of the flame: There shall not be a coal to warm by, nor fire to sit before. ¹⁵ Thus they shall be to you with whom you have labored, even your merchants, from your youth: Everyone shall wander to his quarter; none shall save you.

²⁷ Daniel answered in the presence of the king, and said, "The secret which the king has demanded cannot be shown to the king by the wise men, the astrologers, the magicians, or the soothsayers;

⁷ Then the magicians, the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers came in: And I told the dream before them; but they did not make the interpretation of it known to me.

¹¹ Terrors shall make him afraid on every side, and shall drive him to his feet. ¹² His strength shall be extremely hungry, and destruction shall be ready at his side. ¹³ It shall devour the strength of his skin: Even the firstborn of death shall devour his strength. ¹⁴ His confidence shall be rooted out of his tabernacle, and it shall bring him to the king of terrors.

¹⁴ Yes, He sent out His arrows, and scattered them; and He shot out lightning, and discomfited them.

⁶ Fear took hold upon them there, and pain, as of a woman in travail.

⁶ Howl all of you; for the day of the LORD is at hand; it shall come as a destruction from the Almighty.

²⁴ We have heard the fame of it: Our hands wax feeble: Anguish has taken hold of us, and pain, as of a woman in travail.

⁶ Ask now, and see whether a man does travail with child? Why do I see every man with his hands on his loins, as a woman in travail, and all faces are turned into paleness?

⁶ Then the king's countenance was changed, and his thoughts troubled him, so that the joints of his loins were loosened, and his knees knocked against one another.

⁸ Therefore I was left alone, and saw this great vision, and there remained no strength in me: For my becoming manner was turned into corruption in me, and I retained no strength.

³ When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.

¹⁵ And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains;

¹⁷ And it came to pass, when she was in hard labor, that the midwife said to her, "Fear not; you shall have this son also." ¹⁸ And it came to pass, as her soul was in a state of departing, (for she died) that she called his name Benoni: But his father called him Benjamin.Benoni; that is, The son of my sorrowBenjamin; that is, The son of the right hand

²⁰ And about the time of her death the women that stood by her said to her, "Fear not, for you have borne a son." But she did not answer, neither did she regard it. ²¹ And she named the child Ichabod, saying, "The glory has departed from Israel": Because the ark of God had been taken, and because of her father-in-law and her husband. ²² And she said, "The glory has departed from Israel: For the ark of God is taken."

³¹ Then Bathsheba bowed with her face to the earth, and did reverence to the king, and said, "Let my lord king David live forever.

⁴ But you are forgers of lies, you are all physicians of no value.

³⁴ How then comfort you me in vain, seeing in your answers there remains falsehood?

⁴ Then the Chaldeans spoke to the king in Syriac, "O king, live forever: Tell your servants the dream, and we will show the interpretation."

⁹ They spoke and said to the king Nebuchadnezzar, "O king, live forever.

⁶ Then these presidents and princes assembled together to the king, and said thus to him, "king Darius, live forever.

²¹ Then Daniel said to the king, "O king, live forever.

¹¹ And we dreamed a dream in one night, I and he; we dreamed each man according to the interpretation of his dream. ¹² And there with us was a young man, a Hebrew, servant to the captain of the guard; and we told him, and he interpreted to us our dreams; to each man according to his dream did he interpret. ¹³ And it came to pass, as he interpreted to us, so it was; me he restored to my office, and him he hanged." ¹⁴ Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they hastily brought him out of the dungeon: And he shaved himself, and changed his clothing, and came in to Pharaoh. ¹⁵ And Pharaoh said to Joseph, "I have dreamed a dream, and there is none that can interpret it: And I have heard it said of you, that you can understand a dream to interpret it."

¹⁷ Then your handmaid said, "The word of my lord the king shall now be comfortable: For as an angel of God, so is my lord the king to discern good and bad: Therefore the LORD your God will be with you.

¹¹ And it is a rare thing that the king requires, and there is none that can show it before the king, except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh."

⁴⁷ The king answered to Daniel, and said, "It is true that your God is a God of gods, and a Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, seeing you could reveal this secret." ⁴⁸ Then the king made Daniel a great man, and gave him many great gifts, and made him ruler over the whole province of Babylon, and chief of the governors over all the wise men of Babylon.

⁸ But at last Daniel came in before me, whose name was Belteshazzar, according to the name of my god, and in whom is the spirit of the holy gods: And I told the dream before him, saying, ⁹ "O Belteshazzar, master of the magicians, because I know that the spirit of the holy gods is in you, and no secret troubles you, tell me the visions of my dream that I have seen, and the interpretation of it.

¹⁸ This dream I, king Nebuchadnezzar, have seen. Now you, O Belteshazzar, declare the interpretation of it, because all the wise men of my kingdom are not able to make the interpretation known to me: But you are able; for the spirit of the holy gods is in you."

¹⁴ I have even heard of you, that the spirit of the gods is in you, and that light and understanding and excellent wisdom are found in you.

²² And the people gave a shout, saying, "It is the voice of a god, and not of a man."

¹¹ Now when the people saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in the speech of Lycaonia, "The gods have come down to us in the likeness of men."

¹⁶ And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, that a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying:of divination; or, of Python

⁹ Behold, I will make those of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them come and worship before your feet, and to know that I have loved you.

¹ And when the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon concerning the name of the LORD, she came to prove him with hard questions. ² And she came to Jerusalem with a very great train, with camels that bore spices, and very much gold, and precious stones: And when she had come to Solomon, she communed with him of all that was in her heart. ³ And Solomon told her all her questions: There was not anything hid from the king, which he told her not.

³ but to the saints that are in the earth, and to the excellent, in whom is all my delight.

²⁶ The righteous is more excellent than his neighbor: But the way of the wicked seduces them.

²⁷ He that has knowledge spares his words: And a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit.

⁷ To whom the prince of the eunuchs gave names: For he gave to Daniel the name of Belteshazzar; and to Hananiah, Shadrach; and to Mishael, Meshach; and to Azariah, Abednego.

⁸ But at last Daniel came in before me, whose name was Belteshazzar, according to the name of my god, and in whom is the spirit of the holy gods: And I told the dream before him, saying,

³ Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.

²⁹ For this purpose I also labor, striving according to His working, which works in me mightily.

¹ Now when the adversaries of Judah and Benjamin heard that the children of the captivity built the temple to the LORD God of Israel;

¹⁶ And the children of Israel, the priests, and the Levites, and the rest of the children of the captivity, kept the dedication of this house of God with joy.

¹⁹ And the children of the captivity kept the Passover on the fourteenth day of the first month. ²⁰ For the priests and the Levites were purified together, all of them were pure, and killed the Passover for all the children of the captivity, and for their brothers the priests, and for themselves.

⁷ And they made proclamation throughout Judah and Jerusalem to all the children of the captivity, that they should gather themselves together to Jerusalem;

¹⁶ And the children of the captivity did so. And Ezra the priest, with certain chief of the fathers, after the house of their fathers, and all of them by their names, were separated, and sat down on the first day of the tenth month to examine the matter.

²¹ And Daniel continued to even the first year of King Cyrus.

²⁵ Then Arioch brought in Daniel before the king in haste, and said thus to him, "I have found a man of the captives of Judah, who will make known to the king the interpretation."

² Belshazzar, while he tasted the wine, commanded to bring the golden and silver vessels which his father Nebuchadnezzar had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem; that the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, might drink from them.

¹³ Then they answered and said before the king, "That Daniel, who is of the children of the captivity of Judah, does not regard you, O king, nor the decree that you have signed, but makes his petition three times a day."

¹ In the third year of the reign of King Belshazzar a vision appeared to me, even to me, Daniel, after that which appeared to me at the first.

²⁷ And I, Daniel, fainted, and was sick for days; afterward I rose up, and did the king's business; and I was astounded at the vision, but none understood it.

¹ After these things Jesus walked in Galilee: For He would not walk in Jewry,Jewry; a district inhabited by Jews because the Jews sought to kill Him.

³ His brothers therefore said to Him, "Depart from this place, and go into Judea, that Your disciples may also see the works that You do.

¹¹ There is a man in your kingdom, in whom is the spirit of the holy gods; and in the days of your father light and understanding and wisdom, like the wisdom of the gods, was found in him; whom the king Nebuchadnezzar your father, the king, I say, "your father made master of the magicians, astrologers, Chaldeans, and soothsayers; ¹² in as much as an excellent spirit, and knowledge, and understanding, interpreting of dreams, and explaining of hard sentences, and the dissolving of doubts, were found in the same Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar: Now let Daniel be called, and he will show the interpretation."

¹⁰ For the LORD has poured out on you the spirit of deep sleep, and has closed your eyes: He has covered the prophets, your rulers, and the seers. ¹¹ And all the vision has become to you like the words of a book that is sealed, which men deliver to one who is learned, saying, "Read this, I pray": And he said, "I cannot; for it is sealed." ¹² And the book is delivered to him who is not learned, saying, "Read this, I pray": And he said, "I am not learned."

¹² Stand now with your enchantments, and with the multitude of your sorceries, in which you have labored from your youth; if so perhaps you shall be able to profit, if so perhaps you may prevail.

³ And the king said to them, "I have dreamed a dream, and my spirit was troubled to know the dream." ⁴ Then the Chaldeans spoke to the king in Syriac, "O king, live forever: Tell your servants the dream, and we will show the interpretation." ⁵ The king answered and said to the Chaldeans, "The action has gone from me: If you will not make known to me the dream, with its interpretation, you shall be cut in pieces, and your houses shall be made a dunghill. ⁶ But if you make known the dream, and the interpretation of it, you shall receive from me gifts and rewards and great honor: Therefore make known to me the dream, and the interpretation of it." ⁷ They answered again and said, "Let the king tell his servants the dream, and we will make known the interpretation of it." ⁸ The king answered and said, "I knew for certain that you would gain the time, because you see the action has gone from me. ⁹ But if you will not make the dream known to me, there is but one decree for you: For you have prepared lying and corrupt words to speak before me, until the time is changed: Therefore tell me the dream, and I shall know that you can show me the interpretation of it." ¹⁰ The Chaldeans answered before the king, and said, "There is not a man upon the earth that can show the king's matter: Therefore there is no king, lord, nor ruler, that asked such things of any magician, or astrologer, or Chaldean. ¹¹ And it is a rare thing that the king requires, and there is none that can show it before the king, except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh."

⁷ The king cried aloud to bring in the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers. And the king spoke, and said to the wise men of Babylon, "Whoever shall read this writing, and show me the interpretation of it, shall be clothed with scarlet, and have a chain of gold around his neck, and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom." ⁸ Then all the king's wise men came in: But they could not read the writing, nor make known to the king the interpretation of it.

⁸ And they said to him, "We have dreamed a dream, and there is no interpreter of it." And Joseph said to them, "Do not interpretations belong to God? Tell me them, I implore you."

⁷ The king cried aloud to bring in the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers. And the king spoke, and said to the wise men of Babylon, "Whoever shall read this writing, and show me the interpretation of it, shall be clothed with scarlet, and have a chain of gold around his neck, and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom."

¹⁸ And when Simon saw that through the laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Spirit was given, he offered them money,

²³ that I will not take anything that is yours, from even a thread to a shoe strap, lest you should say, 'I have made Abram rich':

¹³ And Elisha said to the king of Israel, What have I to do with you? Get you to the prophets of your father, and to the prophets of your mother. And the king of Israel said to him, "No: For the LORD has called these three kings together, to deliver them into the hand of Moab.

¹⁶ But he said, "As the LORD lives, before whom I stand, I will receive none. And he urged him to take it; but he refused.

²⁶ And he said to him, "Went not my heart with you, when the man turned again from his chariot to meet you? Is it a time to receive money, and to receive garments, and olive groves, and vineyards, and sheep, and oxen, and menservants, and maidservants?

⁴⁶ I will speak of Your testimonies also before kings, and will not be ashamed.

²⁰ But Peter said to him, "Your money perish with you, because you thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.

⁸ When the Most High divided to the nations their inheritance, when he separated the sons of Adam, he set the bounds of the people according to the number of the children of Israel.

¹⁷ I will praise the LORD according to His righteousness: And will sing praise to the name of the LORD most high.

² I will be glad and rejoice in You: I will sing praise to Your name, O most High.

² For the LORD most high is frightful; He is a great King over all the earth.

⁸ But You, LORD, are most high forevermore.

³⁵ To turn aside the right of a man before the face of the Most High,

³⁸ Out of the mouth of the Most High does not evil and good proceed?

³⁷ You, O king, are a king of kings: For the God of heaven has given you a kingdom, power, and strength, and glory. ³⁸ And wherever the children of men dwell, He has given the wild beasts of the field and the fowls of the heaven into your hand, and has made you ruler over them all. You are this head of gold.

² I thought it would be good to show the signs and wonders that the high God has worked in regard to me.

¹⁷ This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: To the intent that the living may know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever He will, and sets up over it the basest of men.'

²² It is you, O king, that are grown and have become strong: For your greatness has grown, and reaches to heaven, and your dominion to the end of the earth. ²³ And as the king saw a watcher and a holy one coming down from heaven, and saying, 'Hew the tree down, and destroy it; yet leave the stump of its roots in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the dew of heaven, and let his portion be with the wild beasts of the field, until seven times pass over him;' ²⁴ This is the interpretation, O king, and this is the decree of the Most High, which has come upon my lord the king: ²⁵ That they shall drive you from men, and your dwelling shall be with the wild beasts of the field, and they shall make you to eat grass as oxen, and they shall wet you with the dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass over you, until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever He will.

³² And they shall drive you from men, and your dwelling shall be with the wild beasts of the field: They shall make you to eat grass as oxen, and seven times shall pass over you, until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever He wills."

²² My God has sent His angel, and has shut the lions' mouths, and they have not hurt me: In as much as innocency was found in me before Him; and also before you, O king, I have done no hurt."

⁴⁸ "Nevertheless, the Most High does not dwell in temples made with hands; as the prophet says,

¹³ at midday, O king, on the highway I saw a light from heaven, exceeding the brightness of the sun, shining all around me and those who journeyed with me.

¹⁹ "Given wholly to this, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision:

¹⁴ The wrath of a king is as messengers of death: But a wise man will pacify it.

⁹ behold, I will send and take all the families of the north', said the LORD, 'and Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, My servant, and will bring them against this land, and against its inhabitants, and against all these nations all around, and will utterly destroy them, and make them an astonishment, and a hissing, and perpetual desolations. ¹⁰ Moreover I will take from them the voice of mirth, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride, the sound of the millstones, and the light of the candle. ¹¹ And this whole land shall be a desolation, and an astonishment; and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years. ¹² And it shall come to pass, when seventy years are accomplished, that I will punish the king of Babylon, and that nation', said the LORD, 'for their iniquity, and the land of the Chaldeans, and will make it perpetual desolations. ¹³ And I will bring on that land all My words which I have pronounced against it, even all that is written in this book, which Jeremiah has prophesied against all the nations. ¹⁴ For many nations and great kings shall reduce them to subjection also: And I will recompense them according to their deeds, and according to the works of their own hands.' "

⁵ 'I have made the earth, the man and the beast that are upon the ground, by My great power and by My outstretched arm, and have given it to whom it seemed proper to Me. ⁶ And now I have given all these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, My servant; and I have also given him the wild beasts of the field to serve him. ⁷ And all nations shall serve him, and his son, and his son's son, until the very time of his land comes: And then many nations and great kings shall enservant him.

¹² For this cause the king was angry and very furious, and commanded to destroy all the wise men of Babylon. ¹³ And the decree went forth that the wise men should be slain; and they sought Daniel and his fellows to be slain.

⁴ Then a herald cried aloud, "To you it is commanded, O people, nations, and languages,

⁶ And whoever does not fall down and worship shall in the same hour be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace."

²⁰ And he commanded the most mighty men that were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and to cast them into the burning fiery furnace. ²¹ Then these men were bound in their coats, their trousers, and their hats, and their other garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.

²⁹ Therefore I make a decree, that every people, nation, and language, which speak anything amiss against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, shall be cut in pieces, and their houses shall be made a dunghill: Because there is no other God that can deliver in this manner."

²² It is you, O king, that are grown and have become strong: For your greatness has grown, and reaches to heaven, and your dominion to the end of the earth.

⁵ Yes also, because he transgresses by wine, he is a proud man, neither keeps at home, who enlarges his desire as hell, and is as death, and cannot be satisfied, but gathers to him all nations, and heaps to him all people:

¹¹ Jesus answered, "You could have no power at all against Me, unless it was given you from above: Therefore he that delivered Me to you has the greater sin."

¹ Let every soul be subject to the higher powers. For there is no power but from God: The powers that be are ordained by God.

¹⁷ Do you still exalt yourself against My people, that you will not let them go?

¹¹ Now I know that the LORD is greater than all gods: For in the thing about which they dealt proudly He was above them."

⁶ Why then do you harden your hearts, as the Egyptians and Pharaoh hardened their hearts? When He had worked wonders among them, did they not let the people go, and they departed?

¹⁴ Notwithstanding they would not hear, but hardened their necks, like to the neck of their fathers, that did not believe in the LORD their God.

¹³ And he also rebelled against king Nebuchadnezzar, who had made him swear by God: But he stiffened his neck, and hardened his heart from turning to the LORD God of Israel.

¹¹ Cast abroad the rage of your wrath: And behold everyone that is proud, and abase him. ¹² Look on everyone that is proud, and bring him low; and tread down the wicked in their place.

⁵ Everyone that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD: Though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.

¹⁸ Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.

¹² How you have fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, you who weakened the nations! ¹³ For you have said in your heart, "I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will also sit on the mount of the congregation, in uttermost sides of the north: ¹⁴ I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High." ¹⁵ Yet you shall be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit. ¹⁶ Those that see you shall narrowly look on you, and consider you, saying, "Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that shook kingdoms; ¹⁷ that made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities of it; who did not open the house of his prisoners?"

¹ Come down, and sit in the dust, O virgin daughter of Babylon, sit on the ground: There is no throne, O daughter of the Chaldeans: For no more shall you be called tender and delicate.

¹⁸ Say to the king and to the queen, "Humble yourselves, sit down: For your principalities shall come down, even the crown of your glory."

¹⁵ "Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; 'Behold, I will bring on this city and on all her towns all the evil that I have pronounced against it, because they have hardened their necks, that they might not hear My words.' "

¹⁸ You daughter who inhabits Dibon, come down from your glory, and sit in thirst; for the spoiler of Moab shall come on you, and he shall destroy your strongholds.

⁶ Thus says the LORD; "Those also that uphold Egypt shall fall; and the pride of her power shall come down: From the tower of Syene they shall fall in it by the sword", says the Lord GOD.

³⁰ The king spoke, and said, "Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honor of my majesty?" ³¹ While the word was in the king's mouth, there fell a voice from heaven, saying, "O king Nebuchadnezzar, to you it is spoken; the kingdom has departed from you. ³² And they shall drive you from men, and your dwelling shall be with the wild beasts of the field: They shall make you to eat grass as oxen, and seven times shall pass over you, until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever He wills." ³³ The same hour the thing was fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar: And he was driven from men, and ate grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, until his hairs were grown like eagles' feathers, and his nails like birds' claws.

⁵¹ He has shown strength with His arm; He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. ⁵² He has put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted those of low degree.

¹⁴ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: For everyone who exalts himself shall be abased; and he that humbles himself shall be exalted."

¹³ But exhort one another daily, while it is called "Today"; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

¹⁴ For at this time I will send all My plagues upon your heart, and upon your servants, and upon your people; that you may know that there is none like Me in all the earth. ¹⁵ For now I will stretch out My hand, that I may smite you and your people with pestilence; and you shall be cut off from the earth. ¹⁶ And in fact for this very cause I have raised you up, through you to show My power; and that My name may be declared throughout all the earth.

³ For want and famine they were solitary; fleeing into the wilderness in former time desolate and waste. ⁴ Who cut up mallows by the bushes, and juniper roots for their meat. ⁵ They were driven forth from among men, (they cried after them as after a thief); ⁶ To dwell in the cliffs of the valleys, in caves of the earth, and in the rocks. ⁷ Among the bushes they brayed; under the nettles they were gathered together.

¹⁷ Let them be confounded and troubled forever; yes, let them be put to shame, and perish: ¹⁸ That men may know that You, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, are the Most High over all the earth.

²⁴ And all the trees of the field shall know that I the LORD have brought down the high tree, have exalted the low tree, have dried up the green tree, and have made the dry tree to flourish: I the LORD have spoken and have done it."

²⁵ That they shall drive you from men, and your dwelling shall be with the wild beasts of the field, and they shall make you to eat grass as oxen, and they shall wet you with the dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass over you, until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever He will.

³⁵ And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: And He does according to His will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: And none can stay His hand, or say to Him, "What are You doing?"

³ And Moses and Aaron came in to Pharaoh, and said to him, "Thus says the LORD God of the Hebrews, 'How long will you refuse to humble yourself before Me? Let My people go, that they may serve Me.

²³ and humbled not himself before the LORD, as Manasseh his father had humbled himself; but Amon trespassed more and more.

¹² And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD his God, and humbled not himself before Jeremiah the prophet speaking from the mouth of the LORD.

¹⁰ Let favor be shown to the wicked, yet he will not learn righteousness: In the land of uprightness he will deal unjustly, and will not behold the majesty of the LORD.

⁴ Because John said to him, "It is not lawful for you to have her."

³² For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him: But the publicans and the harlots believed him: And you, when you had seen it, did not repent afterward, that you might believe him.

⁴⁷ And that servant, which knew his lord's will, and did not prepare himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.

¹⁷ If you know these things, happy are you if you do them.

⁸ Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, "You rulers of the people, and elders of Israel, ⁹ if we this day are examined for the good deed done to the feeble man, by what means he is made whole; ¹⁰ let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by Him does this man stand here before you whole. ¹¹ This is the 'stone which was set at naught by you builders, which has become the head of the corner.' ¹² Neither is there salvation in any other: For there is no other name under heaven given among men, by which we must be saved." ¹³ Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marveled; and they had knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.

²⁹ But Peter and the other apostles answered and said, "We ought to obey God rather than men. ³⁰ The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom you slew and hung on a tree: ³¹ God has exalted Him with His right hand to be Prince and Savior, to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins. ³² And we are His witnesses of these things; and so also is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those that obey Him." ³³ When they heard that, they were cut to the heart, and took counsel to slay them.

⁶ But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble."

¹⁷ Therefore, to him that knows to do good, and does not do it, to him it is sin.

⁵ Likewise you younger ones, submit yourselves to the elder. Yes, all of you be subject to one another, and be clothed with humility: For "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble." ⁶ Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time:

⁷ And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

¹⁹ And he blessed him, and said, "Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth:

²³ Then the lords of the Philistines gathered them together to offer a great sacrifice to Dagon their god, and to rejoice: For they said, "Our god has delivered our enemy Samson into our hand."

¹ And the Philistines took the ark of God, and brought it from Ebenezer to Ashdod. ² When the Philistines took the ark of God, they brought it into the house of Dagon, and set it by Dagon. ³ And when those of Ashdod arose early on the next day, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the earth before the ark of the LORD. And they took Dagon, and set him in his place again. ⁴ And when they arose early on the next morning, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of the LORD; and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands were cut off upon the threshold; only the stump of Dagon was left to him. ⁵ Therefore neither the priests of Dagon, nor any that come into Dagon's house, tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod to this day. ⁶ But the hand of the LORD was heavy upon the people of Ashdod, and He destroyed them, and smote them with hemorrhoids, even Ashdod and its borders. ⁷ And when the men of Ashdod saw that it was so, they said, "The ark of the God of Israel shall not abide with us: For His hand is heavy upon us and upon Dagon our god." ⁸ Therefore they sent and gathered all the lords of the Philistines to them, and said, "What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel?" And they answered, "Let the ark of the God of Israel be carried around to Gath." And they carried the ark of the God of Israel around to that place. ⁹ And it was so, that after they had carried it around, the hand of the LORD was against the city with a very great destruction: And He smote the men of the city, both small and great, and they had hemorrhoids in their secret parts.

¹⁰ You have indeed smitten Edom, and your heart has lifted you up: Glory of this, and tarry at home: For why should you meddle to your hurt, that you should fall, even you, and Judah with you?

¹⁰ In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind.

⁴ Does not he see my ways, and count all my steps?

¹⁴ If he set his heart upon man, if he gather to himself his spirit and his breath; ¹⁵ all flesh shall perish together, and man shall turn again to dust.

²⁹ You hide Your face, they are troubled: You take away their breath, they die, and return to their dust.

¹⁶ The heaven, even the heavens, are the LORD'S: But the earth He has given to the children of men.

¹⁵ The idols of the heathen are silver and gold, the work of men's hands. ¹⁶ They have mouths, but they do not speak; they have eyes, but they do not see; ¹⁷ they have ears, but they do not hear; neither is there any breath in their mouths.

³ You compass my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways,

⁴ His breath goes forth, he returns to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish.

²⁴ Man's goings are of the LORD; how can a man then understand his own way?

¹² For the day of the LORD of hosts shall be on everyone that is proud and lofty, and on everyone that is lifted up; and he shall be brought low:

¹⁰ Now I will rise", says the LORD; now I will be exalted; now I will lift myself up.

¹⁹ and have cast their gods into the fire: For they were no gods, but the work of men's hands, wood and stone: Therefore they have destroyed them.

²³ Whom have you reproached and blasphemed? And against whom have you exalted your voice, and lifted up your eyes on high? Even against the Holy One of Israel.

⁵ Thus said God the LORD, He who created heaven, and stretched them out; He who spread forth the earth, and that which comes out of it; He that gives breath to the people on it, and spirit to those who walk in it:

²³ O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: It is not in man who walks to direct his steps.

²⁹ Call together the archers against Babylon: All you who bend the bow, camp against it all around; let none of them escape: Recompense her according to her work; according to all that she has done, do to her: For she has been proud against the LORD, against the Holy One of Israel.

² "Son of man, say to the prince of Tyrus, 'Thus says the Lord GOD; "Because your heart is lifted up, and you have said, 'I am a God, I sit in the seat of God, in the midst of the seas'; yet you are a man, and not God, though you set your heart as the heart of God:

⁵ By your great wisdom and by your traffic you have increased your riches, and your heart is lifted up because of your riches:"

¹⁷ Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty, you have corrupted your wisdom by reason of your brightness: I will cast you to the ground, I will lay you before kings, that they may behold you.

¹⁰ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; 'Because you have lifted yourself up in height, and he has shot up his top among the thick boughs, and his heart is lifted up in his height;

² Belshazzar, while he tasted the wine, commanded to bring the golden and silver vessels which his father Nebuchadnezzar had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem; that the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, might drink from them. ³ Then they brought the golden vessels that were taken out of the temple of the house of God which was at Jerusalem; and the king, and his princes, his wives and his concubines, drank from them. ⁴ They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone.

⁴ Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: But the just shall live by his faith.

¹⁸ What profits the graven image that its maker has graven it; the molten image, and a teacher of lies, that the maker of his work trusts in it, to make dumb idols? ¹⁹ Woe to him that says to the wood, 'Awake'; to the dumb stone, 'Arise, it shall teach!' Behold, it is laid over with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in the midst of it.

²⁵ neither is worshiped with men's hands, as though He needed anything, seeing He gives to all life, breath, and all things;

²⁸ For in Him we live, and move, and have our being; as also certain ones of your own poets have said, 'For we are also His offspring.' ²⁹ In as much as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is similar to gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device.

²¹ Because although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. ²² Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, ²³ and changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made in likeness to corruptible man, and to birds, and four-footed beasts, and creeping things.

⁴ Therefore concerning the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice to idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is no other God but one.

⁶ Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.

¹³ Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in His sight: But all things are naked and uncovered to the eyes of Him with Whom we have to give account.

⁵ And there was given to him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given to him to continue for forty-two months. ⁶ And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme His name, and His tabernacle, and those that dwell in heaven.

⁵ In the same hour came forth fingers of a man's hand, and wrote in front of the candlestick upon the plaster of the wall of the king's palace: And the king saw the part of the hand that wrote.

¹⁴ If a man die, shall he live again? All the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come.

¹ The burden of Babylon, which Isaiah the son of Amoz saw. ² Lift up a banner on the high mountain, exalt the voice to them, shake the hand, that they may go into the gates of the nobles. ³ I have commanded My sanctified ones, I have also called My mighty ones for My anger, even them that rejoice in My highness. ⁴ The noise of a multitude in the mountains, as of a great people; a tumultuous noise of the kingdoms of nations gathered together: The LORD of hosts musters the host of the battle. ⁵ They come from a far country, from the end of heaven, even the LORD, and the weapons of His indignation, to destroy the whole land. ⁶ Howl all of you; for the day of the LORD is at hand; it shall come as a destruction from the Almighty. ⁷ Therefore all hands shall be faint, and every man's heart shall melt: ⁸ And they shall be afraid: Pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them; they shall be in pain as a woman that travails: They shall be amazed at one another; their faces shall be as flames. ⁹ Behold, the day of the LORD comes, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: And He shall destroy its sinners out of it. ¹⁰ For the stars of heaven and their constellations shall not give light: The sun shall be darkened in His going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine. ¹¹ And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogance of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible. ¹² I will make a man more precious than fine gold; a man even more than the golden wedge of Ophir. ¹³ Therefore I will shake heaven, and the earth shall move out of her place, in the wrath of the LORD of hosts, and in the day of His fierce anger. ¹⁴ And it shall be as the chased roe, and as a sheep that no man takes shepherds: Every man shall turn to his own people, and everyone flee into his own land.

¹ The burden of the desert of the sea. As whirlwinds in the south pass through; so it comes from the desert, from a terrible land. ² A grievous vision is declared to me; the treacherous dealer deals treacherously, and the spoiler spoils. Go up, O Elam: Besiege, O Media; I have made all her sighing to cease. ³ Therefore my loins are filled with pain: Pangs have taken hold of me, as the pangs of a woman that travails: I was bowed down at the hearing of it; I was dismayed at the seeing of it. ⁴ My heart panted, fearfulness affrighted me: The night of my pleasure He has turned into fear to me. ⁵ Prepare the table, watch in the watchtower, eat, drink: Arise, you princes, and anoint the shield. ⁶ For thus the LORD has said to me, "Go, set a watchman, let him declare what he sees." ⁷ And he saw a chariot with a couple of horsemen, a chariot of donkeys, and a chariot of camels; and he listened diligently with much heed: ⁸ And he cried, "A lion: My lord, I stand continually on the watchtower in the daytime, and I am set in my post whole nights: ⁹ And behold, here comes a chariot of men, with a couple of horsemen. And he answered and said, "Babylon is fallen, is fallen; and all the graven images of her gods He has broken to the ground." ¹⁰ O my threshing, and the grain of my floor: That which I have heard from the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, I have declared to you.

¹ Come down, and sit in the dust, O virgin daughter of Babylon, sit on the ground: There is no throne, O daughter of the Chaldeans: For no more shall you be called tender and delicate. ² Take the millstones, and grind meal: Uncover your locks, make bare the leg, uncover the thigh, pass over the rivers. ³ Your nakedness shall be uncovered, yes, your shame shall be seen: I will take vengeance, and I will not meet you as a man. ⁴ As for our Redeemer, the LORD of hosts is His name, the Holy One of Israel. ⁵ Sit silent, and go into darkness, O daughter of the Chaldeans: For you shall no longer be called The lady of kingdoms. ⁶ I was angry with My people, I have polluted My inheritance, and given them into your hand: You showed them no mercy; upon the elderly you have laid your yoke very heavily. ⁷ And you said, 'I shall be a lady forever': So that you did not take these things to your heart, neither did remember the latter end of it. ⁸ Therefore hear this now, you who are given to pleasures, that dwell carelessly, that say in your heart, 'I am, and none other besides me; I shall not sit as a widow, neither shall I know the loss of children': ⁹ But these two things shall come to you in a moment in one day, the loss of children, and widowhood: They shall come on you in their perfection for the multitude of your sorceries, and for the great abundance of your enchantments. ¹⁰ For you have trusted in your wickedness: You have said, 'None sees me.' Your wisdom and your knowledge have perverted you; and you have said in your heart, 'I am, and none other besides me.' ¹¹ Therefore evil shall come on you; you shall not know from where it rises: And mischief shall fall upon you; you shall not be able to put it off: And desolation shall come on you suddenly, which you shall not know.

¹¹ And this whole land shall be a desolation, and an astonishment; and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years. ¹² And it shall come to pass, when seventy years are accomplished, that I will punish the king of Babylon, and that nation', said the LORD, 'for their iniquity, and the land of the Chaldeans, and will make it perpetual desolations.

¹ The word that the LORD spoke against Babylon and against the land of the Chaldeans by Jeremiah the prophet. ² "Declare among the nations, and publish, and set up a standard; publish, and do not conceal: Say, 'Babylon is taken, Bel is confounded, Merodach is broken in pieces; her idols are confounded, her images are broken in pieces.' ³ For out of the north there comes up a nation against her, which shall make her land desolate, and none shall dwell in it: They shall move, they shall depart, both man and beast. ⁴ In those days, and at that time", said the LORD, "the children of Israel shall come, they and the children of Judah together, going and weeping: They shall go, and seek the LORD their God. ⁵ They shall ask the way to Zion with their faces towards it, saying, 'Come, and let us join ourselves to the LORD in a perpetual covenant that shall not be forgotten.' ⁶ My people have been lost sheep: Their shepherds have caused them to go astray, they have turned them away upon the mountains: They have gone from mountain to hill, they have forgotten their resting place. ⁷ All who found them have devoured them: And their adversaries said, 'We do not offend, because they have sinned against the LORD, the habitation of justice, even the LORD, the hope of their fathers.' ⁸ Remove out of the midst of Babylon, and go forth out of the land of the Chaldeans, and be as the he-goats before the flocks. ⁹ For lo, I will raise and cause to come up against Babylon an assembly of great nations from the north country: And they shall set themselves in array against her; from there she shall be taken: Their arrows shall be as of a mighty expert man; none shall return in vain. ¹⁰ And Chaldea shall be a spoil: All that spoil her shall be satisfied", said the LORD. ¹¹ "Because you were glad, because you rejoiced, O you destroyers of My heritage, because you have grown fat like a heifer in the grass, and bellow like bulls; ¹² your mother shall be greatly confounded; she who bore you shall be ashamed: Behold, the last of the nations shall be a wilderness, a dry land, and a desert. ¹³ Because of the wrath of the LORD it shall not be inhabited, but it shall be wholly desolate: Everyone who goes by Babylon shall be astonished, and hiss at all her plagues. ¹⁴ Put yourselves in array against Babylon on every side: All you who bend the bow, shoot at her, spare no arrows: For she has sinned against the LORD. ¹⁵ Shout against her from every side: She has given her hand: Her foundations have fallen, her walls are thrown down: For it is the vengeance of the LORD: Take vengeance on her; as she has done, do to her. ¹⁶ Cut off the sower from Babylon, and him who handles the sickle in the time of harvest: For fear of the oppressing sword everyone shall turn to his people, and everyone shall flee to his own land. ¹⁷ Israel is as scattered sheep; the lions have driven him away: First the king of Assyria has devoured him; and last this Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon has broken his bones." ¹⁸ Therefore thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; "Behold, I will punish the king of Babylon and his land, as I have punished the king of Assyria. ¹⁹ And I will bring Israel to his habitation again, and he shall feed on Carmel and Bashan, and his soul shall be satisfied upon Mount Ephraim and Gilead. ²⁰ In those days, and at that time", said the LORD, "the iniquity of Israel shall be sought for, and there shall be none; and the sins of Judah, and they shall not be found: For I will pardon them whom I preserve. ²¹ Go up against the land of Merathaim, even against it, and against the inhabitants of Pekod: Waste and utterly destroy after them", said the LORD, "and do according to all that I have commanded you. ²² A sound of battle is in the land, and of great destruction. ²³ How the hammer of the whole earth is cut asunder and broken! How Babylon has become a desolation among the nations! ²⁴ I have laid a snare for you, and you are also taken, O Babylon, and you were not aware: You are found, and also caught, because you have strived against the LORD. ²⁵ The LORD has opened His armory, and has brought forth the weapons of His indignation: For this is the work of the Lord GOD of hosts in the land of the Chaldeans. ²⁶ Come against her from the utmost border, open her storehouses: Cast her up as heaps, and destroy her utterly: Let nothing be left of her. ²⁷ Slay all her bulls; let them go down to the slaughter: Woe to them! For their day has come, the time of their visitation. ²⁸ The voice of those who flee and escape out of the land of Babylon, to declare in Zion the vengeance of the LORD our God, the vengeance of His temple. ²⁹ Call together the archers against Babylon: All you who bend the bow, camp against it all around; let none of them escape: Recompense her according to her work; according to all that she has done, do to her: For she has been proud against the LORD, against the Holy One of Israel. ³⁰ Therefore her young men shall fall in the streets, and all her men of war shall be cut off in that day", said the LORD. ³¹ "Behold, I am against you, O you most proud", said the Lord GOD of hosts: "for your day has come, the time that I will visit you. ³² And the most proud shall stumble and fall, and none shall raise him up: And I will kindle a fire in his cities, and it shall devour all around him." ³³ Thus says the LORD of hosts; "The children of Israel and the children of Judah were oppressed together: And all who took them captives held them fast; they refused to let them go. ³⁴ Their Redeemer is strong; the LORD of hosts is His name: He shall thoroughly plead their cause, that He may give rest to the land, and disquiet the inhabitants of Babylon. ³⁵ A sword is upon the Chaldeans", said the LORD, "and upon the inhabitants of Babylon, and upon her princes, and upon her wise men. ³⁶ A sword is upon the liars; and they shall become fools: A sword is upon her mighty men; and they shall be dismayed. ³⁷ A sword is upon their horses, and upon their chariots, and upon all the mingled people who are in the midst of her; and they shall become as women: A sword is upon her treasures; and they shall be robbed. ³⁸ A drought is upon her waters; and they shall be dried up: For it is the land of graven images, and they are insane with their idols. ³⁹ Therefore the wild beasts of the desert with the wild beasts of the islands shall dwell there, and the owls shall dwell in it: And it shall no longer be inhabited forever; neither shall it be dwelled in from generation to generation. ⁴⁰ As God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah and its neighbor cities", said the LORD; "so shall no man abide there, neither shall any son of man dwell in it. ⁴¹ Behold, a people shall come from the north, and a great nation, and many kings shall be raised up from the borders of the earth. ⁴² They shall hold the bow and the lance: They are cruel, and will not show mercy: Their voice shall roar like the sea, and they shall ride on horses, everyone put in array like a man to the battle, against you O daughter of Babylon. ⁴³ The king of Babylon has heard the report of them, and his hands waxed feeble: Anguish took hold of him, and pangs as of a woman in travail. ⁴⁴ Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the swelling of Jordan to the habitation of the strong: But I will make them suddenly run away from her: And who is a chosen man, that I may appoint over her? For who is like Me? And who will appoint Me the time? And who is that shepherd who will stand before Me?" ⁴⁵ Therefore hear the counsel of the LORD, that He has taken against Babylon; and His purposes, that He has purposed against the land of the Chaldeans: Surely the least of the flock shall draw them out: Surely He shall make their habitation desolate with them. ⁴⁶ At the noise of the taking of Babylon the earth is moved, and the cry is heard among the nations.

² in the first year of his reign I, Daniel, understood by books the number of the years, which came by the Word of the LORD to Jeremiah the prophet, that He would fulfill seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem.

¹⁸ "Known to God are all His works from the beginning of the world.

⁶ let me be weighed in an even balance that God may know my integrity.

⁹ Surely men of low degree are vanity, and men of high degree are a lie: To be laid in the balance, they are altogether lighter than vanity.

³⁰ Men shall call them reprobate silver, because the LORD has rejected them.

¹⁸ "Son of man, the house of Israel has become dross to Me: They are brass, and tin, and iron, and lead, in the midst of the furnace; they are even the dross of silver." ¹⁹ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; "Because you have all become dross, behold, therefore I will gather you into the midst of Jerusalem. ²⁰ As they gather silver, and brass, and iron, and lead, and tin, into the middle of the furnace, to blow the fire on it, to melt it; so will I gather you in My anger and in My fury, and I will leave you there, and melt you.

¹¹ But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw a man there who did not have on a wedding garment: ¹² And he said to him, 'Friend, how did you come in here not having a wedding garment?' And he was speechless.

¹³ every man's work shall be made manifest: For the Day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall prove every man's work, of what sort it is.

¹⁷ Behold, I will stir up the Medes against them, who shall not regard silver; and as for gold, they shall not delight in it.

² A grievous vision is declared to me; the treacherous dealer deals treacherously, and the spoiler spoils. Go up, O Elam: Besiege, O Media; I have made all her sighing to cease.

¹ Thus says the LORD to His anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have held, to subdue nations before him; and I will loose the loins of kings, to open before him the two-leaved gates; and the gates shall not be shut; ² I will go before you, and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut apart the bars of iron:

³¹ And Darius the Median took the kingdom, being about sixty-two years old.

²⁸ So this Daniel prospered in the reign of Darius, and in the reign of Cyrus the Persian.

³ Then I lifted up my eyes, and looked, and behold, a ram stood there before the river which had two horns: And the two horns were high; but one was higher than the other, and the higher came up last. ⁴ I saw the ram pushing westward, and northward, and southward; so that no beasts might stand before him, neither was there any that could deliver out of his hand; but he did according to his will, and became great.

²⁰ The ram which you saw having two horns are the kings of Media and Persia.

¹ In the first year of Darius the son of Ahasuerus, of the seed of the Medes, who was made king over the realm of the Chaldeans;

⁴ My heart panted, fearfulness affrighted me: The night of my pleasure He has turned into fear to me. ⁵ Prepare the table, watch in the watchtower, eat, drink: Arise, you princes, and anoint the shield. ⁶ For thus the LORD has said to me, "Go, set a watchman, let him declare what he sees." ⁷ And he saw a chariot with a couple of horsemen, a chariot of donkeys, and a chariot of camels; and he listened diligently with much heed: ⁸ And he cried, "A lion: My lord, I stand continually on the watchtower in the daytime, and I am set in my post whole nights: ⁹ And behold, here comes a chariot of men, with a couple of horsemen. And he answered and said, "Babylon is fallen, is fallen; and all the graven images of her gods He has broken to the ground."

¹¹ Make bright the arrows; gather the shields: The LORD has raised up the spirit of the kings of the Medes: For His device is against Babylon, to destroy it; because it is the vengeance of the LORD, the vengeance of His temple.

³¹ One post shall run to meet another, and one messenger to meet another, to show the king of Babylon that his city is taken at one end,

¹ Belshazzar the king made a great feast to a thousand of his lords, and drank wine before the thousand. ² Belshazzar, while he tasted the wine, commanded to bring the golden and silver vessels which his father Nebuchadnezzar had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem; that the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, might drink from them.

¹ It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom a hundred and twenty princes, which should be over the whole kingdom;
