⁴ Now these are the names of his children which he had in Jerusalem; Shammua, and Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon,

¹⁴ And these are the names of those that were born to him in Jerusalem; Shammuah, and Shobab, and Nathan, and Solomon,

¹ And the LORD sent Nathan to David. And he came to him, and said to him, "There were two men in one city; the one rich, and the other poor.

²⁴ And David comforted Bathsheba his wife, and went in to her, and lay with her: And she bore a son, and he called his name Solomon: And the LORD loved him. ²⁵ And he sent by the hand of Nathan the prophet; and he called his name Jedidiah, because of the LORD.

¹³ Go and get you in to king David, and say to him, Did not you, my lord, O king, swear to your handmaid, saying, "Assuredly Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne? Why then does Adonijah reign?

¹⁷ And she said to him, "My lord, you swore by the LORD your God to your handmaid, saying, "Assuredly Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne.

¹⁵ And he said, "You know that the kingdom was mine, and that all Israel set their faces on me, that I should reign: However, the kingdom is turned about, and is become my brother's: For it was his from the LORD.

³ And Solomon loved the LORD, walking in the statutes of David his father: Only he sacrificed and burnt incense in high places.

⁵ In Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night: And God said, "Ask what I shall give you. ⁶ And Solomon said, "You have showed to your servant David my father great mercy, according to as he walked before you in truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with you; and you have kept for him this great kindness, that you have given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day. ⁷ And now, O LORD my God, you have made your servant king instead of David my father: And I am but a little child: I do not know how to go out or come in. ⁸ And your servant is in the midst of your people which you have chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude. ⁹ Give therefore your servant an understanding heart to judge your people, that I may discern between good and bad: For who is able to judge this your so great a people? ¹⁰ And the speech pleased the LORD, that Solomon had asked this thing. ¹¹ And God said to him, "Because you have asked this thing, and have not asked for yourself long life; neither have asked riches for yourself, nor have asked the life of your enemies; but have asked for yourself understanding to discern judgment;

⁵ And these were born to him in Jerusalem; Shimea, and Shobab, and Nathan, and Solomon, four, of Bathshua the daughter of Ammiel: ⁶ Ibhar also, and Elishama, and Eliphelet, ⁷ and Nogah, and Nepheg, and Japhia, ⁸ and Elishama, and Eliada, and Eliphelet, nine. ⁹ These were all the sons of David, beside the sons of the concubines, and Tamar their sister.

⁹ Behold, a son shall be born to you, who shall be a man of rest; and I will give him rest from all his enemies all around: For his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quietness to Israel in his days. ¹⁰ He shall build a house for my name; and he shall be my son, and I will be his father; and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel forever. ¹¹ Now, my son, the LORD be with you; and prosper you, and build the house of the LORD your God, as he has said of you. ¹² Only the LORD give you wisdom and understanding, and give you charge concerning Israel, that you may keep the law of the LORD your God.

⁵ And of all my sons, (for the LORD has given me many sons), he has chosen Solomon my son to sit on the throne of the kingdom of the LORD over Israel. ⁶ And he said to me, 'Solomon your son, he shall build my house and my courts: For I have chosen him to be my son, and I will be his father.

⁶ and Jesse begot David the king, and David the king begot Solomon by her who had been the wife of Uriah.
