³ And David took more wives at Jerusalem: And David begat more sons and daughters.

¹⁷ Neither shall he multiply wives to himself, that his heart turn not away: Neither shall he greatly multiply to himself silver and gold.

¹³ And David took him more concubines and wives out of Jerusalem, after he was come from Hebron: And there were yet sons and daughters born to David.

³ And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines: And his wives turned away his heart.

¹ Now these were the sons of David, which were born to him in Hebron; the firstborn Amnon, of Ahinoam the Jezreelitess; the second Daniel, of Abigail the Carmelitess: ² The third, Absalom the son of Maachah the daughter of Talmai king of Geshur: The fourth, Adonijah the son of Haggith: ³ The fifth, Shephatiah of Abital: The sixth, Ithream by Eglah his wife. ⁴ These six were born to him in Hebron; and there he reigned seven years and six months: And in Jerusalem he reigned thirty-three years.

¹⁸ Let your fountain be blessed: And rejoice with the wife of your youth. ¹⁹ Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant gazelle; let her breasts satisfy you at all times; and be ravished always with her love.

²⁶ And I find more bitter than death the woman, whose heart is snares and nets, and her hands as fetters: Whoever pleases God shall escape from her; but the sinner shall be taken by her. ²⁷ "Behold, this I have found", said the preacher, "Counting one by one, to find out the account: ²⁸ Which my soul yet seeks, but I do not find: I have found one man among a thousand; but a woman among all those I have not found. ²⁹ See, this only I have found, that God has made man upright; but they have sought out many schemes."

⁹ Live joyfully with the wife whom you love all the days of the life of your vanity, which he has given you under the sun, all the days of your vanity: For that is your portion in this life, and in your labor which you toil under the sun.

¹⁴ Yet all you say, "Why?" Because the LORD has been witness between you and the wife of your youth, against whom you have dealt treacherously: Yet she is your companion, and the wife of your covenant.

⁴ And He answered and said to them, "Have you not read, that He which made them at the beginning 'made them male and female', ⁵ and said, 'For this reason a man shall leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: And those two shall be one flesh?'

⁸ He said to them, "Moses permitted you to put away your wives because of the hardness of your hearts: But from the beginning it was not so.
