¹ Now these are those that came to David to Ziklag, while he yet kept himself close because of Saul the son of Kish: And they were among the mighty men, helpers of the war. ² They were armed with bows, and could use both the right hand and the left in hurling stones and shooting arrows out of a bow, even of Saul's brothers of Benjamin. ³ The chief was Ahiezer, then Joash, the sons of Shemaah the Gibeathite; and Jeziel, and Pelet, the sons of Azmaveth; and Berachah, and Jehu the Antothite. ⁴ And Ismaiah the Gibeonite, a mighty man among the thirty, and over the thirty; and Jeremiah, and Jahaziel, and Johanan, and Josabad the Gederathite, ⁵ eluzai, and Jerimoth, and Bealiah, and Shemariah, and Shephatiah the Haruphite, ⁶ elkanah, and Jesiah, and Azareel, and Joezer, and Jashobeam, the Korhites, ⁷ and Joelah, and Zebadiah, the sons of Jeroham of Gedor. ⁸ And of the Gadites there separated themselves to David into the hold to the wilderness men of might, and men of war fit for the battle, that could handle shield and buckler, whose faces were like the faces of lions, and were as swift as the roes upon the mountains; ⁹ ezer the first, Obadiah the second, Eliab the third, ¹⁰ mishmannah the fourth, Jeremiah the fifth, ¹¹ attai the sixth, Eliel the seventh, ¹² johanan the eighth, Elzabad the ninth, ¹³ jeremiah the tenth, Machbanai the eleventh. ¹⁴ These were of the sons of Gad, captains of the host: One of the least was over a hundred, and the greatest over a thousand. ¹⁵ These are those that went over the Jordan in the first month, when it had overflowed all his banks; and they put to flight all them of the valleys, both toward the east, and toward the west. ¹⁶ And there came of the children of Benjamin and Judah to the hold to David. ¹⁷ And David went out to meet them, and answered and said to them, "If you be come peaceably to me to help me, my heart shall be knit to you: But if you be come to betray me to my enemies, seeing there is no wrong in my hands, the God of our fathers look on it, and rebuke it. ¹⁸ Then the spirit came on Amasai, who was chief of the captains, and he said, "Your are we, David, and on your side, you son of Jesse: Peace, peace be to you, and peace be to your helpers; for your God helps you. Then David received them, and made them captains of the band. ¹⁹ And there fell some of Manasseh to David, when he came with the Philistines against Saul to battle: But they helped them not: For the lords of the Philistines on advisement sent him away, saying, "He will fall to his master Saul to the jeopardy of our heads. ²⁰ As he went to Ziklag, there fell to him of Manasseh, Adnah, and Jozabad, and Jediael, and Michael, and Jozabad, and Elihu, and Zilthai, captains of the thousands that were of Manasseh. ²¹ And they helped David against the band of the rovers: For they were all mighty men of valor, and were captains in the host. ²² For at that time day by day there came to David to help him, until it was a great host, like the host of God. ²³ And these are the numbers of the bands that were ready armed to the war, and came to David to Hebron, to turn the kingdom of Saul to him, according to the word of the LORD. ²⁴ The children of Judah that bore shield and spear were six thousand and eight hundred, ready armed to the war. ²⁵ Of the children of Simeon, mighty men of valor for the war, seven thousand and one hundred. ²⁶ Of the children of Levi four thousand and six hundred. ²⁷ And Jehoiada was the leader of the Aaronites, and with him were three thousand and seven hundred; ²⁸ and Zadok, a young man mighty of valor, and of his father's house twenty and two captains. ²⁹ And of the children of Benjamin, the kindred of Saul, three thousand: For till now the greatest part of them had kept the ward of the house of Saul. ³⁰ And of the children of Ephraim twenty thousand and eight hundred, mighty men of valor, famous throughout the house of their fathers. ³¹ And of the half tribe of Manasseh eighteen thousand, which were expressed by name, to come and make David king. ³² And of the children of Issachar, which were men that had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do; the heads of them were two hundred; and all their brothers were at their commandment. ³³ Of Zebulun, such as went forth to battle, expert in war, with all instruments of war, fifty thousand, which could keep rank: They were not of double heart. ³⁴ And of Naphtali a thousand captains, and with them with shield and spear thirty and seven thousand. ³⁵ And of the Danites expert in war twenty and eight thousand and six hundred. ³⁶ And of Asher, such as went forth to battle, expert in war, forty thousand. ³⁷ And on the other side of Jordan, of the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and of the half tribe of Manasseh, with all manner of instruments of war for the battle, a hundred and twenty thousand. ³⁸ All these men of war, that could keep rank, came with a perfect heart to Hebron, to make David king over all Israel: And all the rest also of Israel were of one heart to make David king. ³⁹ And there they were with David three days, eating and drinking: For their brothers had prepared for them. ⁴⁰ Moreover those that were near them, even to Issachar and Zebulun and Naphtali, brought bread on donkeys, and on camels, and on mules, and on oxen, and meat, meal, cakes of figs, and bunches of raisins, and wine, and oil, and oxen, and sheep abundantly: For there was joy in Israel.

² And David arose, and he passed over with the six hundred men that were with him to Achish, the son of Maoch, king of Gath. ³ And David dwelled with Achish at Gath, he and his men, every man with his household, even David with his two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the Carmelitess, Nabal's wife. ⁴ And Saul was told that David had fled to Gath: And he no longer sought again for him. ⁵ And David said to Achish, "If I have now found grace in your eyes, let them give me a place in some town in the country, that I may dwell there: For why should your servant dwell in the royal city with you?" ⁶ Then Achish gave him Ziklag that day: Therefore Ziklag pertains to the kings of Judah to this day.

¹ Now it came to pass after the death of Saul, when David had returned from the slaughter of the Amalekites, and David had stayed two days in Ziklag;

¹⁰ when one told me, saying, "Behold, Saul is dead, thinking to have brought good tidings, I took hold of him, and slew him in Ziklag, who thought that I would have given him a reward for his tidings:

³³ And Ner begat Kish, and Kish begat Saul, and Saul begat Jonathan, and Malchishua, and Abinadab, and Eshbaal.

³⁹ And Ner begat Kish; and Kish begat Saul; and Saul begat Jonathan, and Malchishua, and Abinadab, and Eshbaal.

¹⁰ These also are the chief of the mighty men whom David had, who strengthened themselves with him in his kingdom, and with all Israel, to make him king, according to the word of the LORD concerning Israel.

¹⁹ And said, "My God forbid it me, that I should do this thing: Shall I drink the blood of these men that have put their lives in jeopardy? For with the jeopardy of their lives they brought it. Therefore he would not drink it. These things did these three mightiest.

²⁴ These things did Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and had the name among the three mighty men. ²⁵ Behold, he was honorable among the thirty, but attained not to the first three: And David set him over his guard.

¹⁵ But when the children of Israel cried out to the LORD, the LORD raised them up a deliverer, Ehud the son of Gera, a Benjamite, a man left handed: And by him the children of Israel sent a present to Eglon the king of Moab.

¹⁶ Among all this people there were seven hundred chosen men left handed; every one could sling stones at a hair breadth, and not miss.

⁴⁹ And David put his hand in his bag, and took from there a stone, and slung it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth.

²⁹ And of the children of Benjamin, the kindred of Saul, three thousand: For till now the greatest part of them had kept the ward of the house of Saul.

⁴ Then the messengers came to Gibeah of Saul, and told the matter in the ears of the people: And all the people lifted up their voices, and wept.

⁶ let seven men of his sons be delivered to us, and we will hang them up to the LORD in Gibeah of Saul, whom the LORD did choose. And the king said, "I will give them.

³ And when the inhabitants of Gibeon heard what Joshua had done to Jericho and to Ai,

Now their cities were Gibeon, and Chephirah, and Beeroth, and Kirjathjearim. ¹⁸ And the children of Israel smote them not, because the princes of the congregation had sworn to them by the LORD God of Israel. And all the congregation murmured against the princes. ¹⁹ But all the princes said to all the congregation, We have sworn to them by the LORD God of Israel: Now therefore we may not touch them. ²⁰ This we will do to them; we will even let them live, lest wrath be on us, because of the oath which we swore to them. ²¹ And the princes said to them, "Let them live; but let them be hewers of wood and drawers of water to all the congregation; as the princes had promised them. ²² And Joshua called for them, and he spoke to them, saying, "Why have you beguiled us, saying, "We are very far from you; when you dwell among us? ²³ Now therefore you are cursed, and there shall none of you be freed from being servants, and hewers of wood and drawers of water for the house of my God.

³⁶ and Sharaim, and Adithaim, and Gederah, and Gederothaim; fourteen cities with their villages:

¹⁵ Now three of the thirty captains went down to the rock to David, into the cave of Adullam; and the host of the Philistines encamped in the valley of Rephaim.

¹⁸ And his wife Jehudijah bore Jered the father of Gedor, and Heber the father of Socho, and Jekuthiel the father of Zanoah. And these are the sons of Bithiah the daughter of Pharaoh, which Mered took.

³⁹ And they went to the entrance of Gedor, even to the east side of the valley, to seek pasture for their flocks.

¹⁴ And David abode in the wilderness in secure places, and remained in a mountain in the wilderness of Ziph. And Saul sought him every day, but God did not deliver him into his hand.

²⁹ And David went up from there, and dwelled in secure places at Engedi.

²² And David swore to Saul. And Saul went home; but David and his men got themselves up to the secure place.

²³ Saul and Jonathan were lovely and pleasant in their lives, and in their death they were not divided: They were swifter than eagles, they were stronger than lions.

¹⁸ And there were three sons of Zeruiah there, Joab, and Abishai, and Asahel: And Asahel was as light of foot as a wild roe.

¹⁰ And he also that is valiant, whose heart is as the heart of a lion, shall utterly melt: For all Israel knows that your father is a mighty man, and they which be with him are valiant men.

²⁰ And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the son of a valiant man, of Kabzeel, who had done many acts, he slew two lion like men of Moab: He went down also and slew a lion in the middle of a pit in time of snow:

¹⁶ And David was then in the hold, and the Philistines' garrison was then at Bethlehem.

⁵ Moreover Amaziah gathered Judah together, and made them captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, according to the houses of their fathers, throughout all Judah and Benjamin: And he numbered them from twenty years old and above, and found them three hundred thousand choice men, able to go forth to war, that could handle spear and shield.

⁵ Deliver yourself as a gazelle from the hand of the hunter, and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.

¹ The wicked flee when no man pursues: But the righteous are bold as a lion.

¹⁴ Make haste, my beloved, and you shall be like a gazelle or a young stag upon the mountains of spices.

⁹ Come up, you horses; and rage, you chariots; and let the mighty men come forth; the Ethiopians and the Libyans, who handle the shield; and the Lydians, who handle and bend the bow.

⁸ And five of you shall chase a hundred, and a hundred of you shall put ten thousand to flight: And your enemies shall fall before you by the sword.

³⁰ How should one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight, except their Rock had sold them, and the LORD had shut them up?

¹⁵ and as those that bore the ark were come to Jordan, and the feet of the priests that bore the ark were dipped in the brim of the water, (for Jordan overflows all his banks all the time of harvest),

¹⁸ And it came to pass, when the priests that bore the ark of the covenant of the LORD were come up out of the middle of Jordan, and the soles of the priests' feet were lifted up to the dry land, that the waters of Jordan returned to their place, and flowed over all his banks, as they did before.

⁵ If you have run with the footmen, and they have wearied you, then how can you contend with horses? And if in the land of peace, in which you trusted, they wearied you, then how will you do in the swelling of the Jordan?

¹⁹ Behold, he shall come up from the swelling of Jordan like a lion against the habitation of the strong: But I will suddenly make him run away from her: And who is a chosen man, whom I may appoint over her? For who is like me? And who will appoint Me the time? And who is that shepherd who will stand before Me?

⁴² Unless the God of my father, the God of Abraham, and the fear of Isaac, had been with me, surely you would have now sent me away empty-handed. God has seen my affliction and the labor of my hands, and rebuked you last night."

⁵³ The God of Abraham, and the God of Nahor, the God of their father, judge between us. And Jacob swore by the fear of his father Isaac.

⁴ And Samuel did that which the LORD spoke, and came to Bethlehem. And the elders of the town trembled at his coming, and asked, "Do you come peaceably?"

¹ And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking to Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.

³ Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul.

¹¹ Moreover, my father, see, yes, see the skirt of your robe in my hand: For in that I cut off the skirt of your robe, and I did not kill you, know and see that there is neither evil nor transgression in my hand, and I have not sinned against you; yet you hunt my soul to take it. ¹² The LORD judge between me and you, and the LORD avenge me of you: But my hand shall not be upon you. ¹³ As the proverb of the ancients says, 'Wickedness proceeds from the wicked': But my hand shall not be upon you. ¹⁴ After whom has the king of Israel come out? After whom do you pursue? After a dead dog, after a flea. ¹⁵ The LORD therefore be judge, and judge between me and you, and see, and plead my cause, and deliver me out of your hand." ¹⁶ And it came to pass, when David had made an end of speaking these words to Saul, that Saul said, "Is this your voice, my son David?" And Saul lifted up his voice, and wept. ¹⁷ And he said to David, "You are more righteous than I: For you have rewarded me good, whereas I have rewarded you evil.

²³ The LORD render to every man his righteousness and his faithfulness; for the LORD delivered you into my hand today, but I would not stretch forth my hand against the LORD's anointed. ²⁴ And behold, as your life was greatly valued in my eyes this day, so let my life be greatly valued in the eyes of the LORD, and let Him deliver me out of all tribulation."

²⁰ So Abner came to David to Hebron, and twenty men with him. And David made Abner and the men that were with him a feast. ²¹ And Abner said to David, "I will arise and go, and will gather all Israel to my lord the king, that they may make a league with you, and that you may reign over all that your heart desires. And David sent Abner away; and he went in peace. ²² And behold, the servants of David and Joab came from pursuing a troop, and brought in a great spoil with them: But Abner was not with David in Hebron; for he had sent him away, and he was gone in peace. ²³ When Joab and all the host that was with him were come, they told Joab, saying, "Abner the son of Ner came to the king, and he has sent him away, and he is gone in peace. ²⁴ Then Joab came to the king, and said, "What have you done? Behold, Abner came to you; why is it that you have sent him away, and he is quite gone? ²⁵ You know Abner the son of Ner, that he came to deceive you, and to know your going out and your coming in, and to know all that you do.

¹³ And Adonijah the son of Haggith came to Bathsheba the mother of Solomon. And she asked, "Do you come peaceably?" And he said, "Peaceably.

²² And it came to pass, when Joram saw Jehu, that he said, "Is it peace, Jehu? And he answered, What peace, so long as the whoredoms of your mother Jezebel and her witchcrafts are so many?

¹⁵ And when he was departed there, he lighted on Jehonadab the son of Rechab coming to meet him: And he saluted him, and said to him, "Is your heart right, as my heart is with your heart? And Jehonadab answered, It is. If it be, give me your hand. And he gave him his hand; and he took him up to him into the chariot.

⁶ Arise, O LORD, in Your anger, lift up Yourself because of the rage of my enemies: And awake for me, to the judgment that You have commanded.

²⁷ Only let your conversation be in accord with the gospel of Christ: That whether I come and see you, or else am absent, I may hear of your affairs, that you stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;

²³ Who, when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten; but committed Himself to Him that judges righteously:

⁹ Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, dared not bring a railing accusation against him, but said, "The Lord rebuke you."

²⁸ I implore you, forgive the trespass of your handmaid: For the LORD will certainly make my lord a sure house; because my lord fights the battles of the LORD, and evil has not been found in you all your days. ²⁹ Yet a man is risen to pursue you, and to seek your soul: But the soul of my lord shall be bound in the bundle of life with the LORD your God; and the souls of your enemies, those ones He shall sling out, as out of the middle of a sling.

² Also in time past, when Saul was king over us, you were he that led out and brought in Israel: And the LORD said to you, You shall feed my people Israel, and you shall be a captain over Israel.

²¹ And Ittai answered the king, and said, "As the LORD lives, and as my lord the king lives, surely in what place my lord the king shall be, whether in death or life, even there also will your servant be.

²⁵ And Absalom made Amasa captain of the host instead of Joab: Which Amasa was a man's son, whose name was Ithra an Israelite, that went in to Abigail the daughter of Nahash, sister to Zeruiah Joab's mother.

¹³ And say you to Amasa, Are you not of my bone, and of my flesh? God do so to me, and more also, if you be not captain of the host before me continually in the room of Joab.

⁴ Then said the king to Amasa, Assemble me the men of Judah within three days, and be you here present. ⁵ So Amasa went to assemble the men of Judah: But he tarried longer than the set time which he had appointed him. ⁶ And David said to Abishai, "Now shall Sheba the son of Bichri do us more harm than did Absalom: Take you your lord's servants, and pursue after him, lest he get him fenced cities, and escape us. ⁷ And there went out after him Joab's men, and the Cherethites, and the Pelethites, and all the mighty men: And they went out of Jerusalem, to pursue after Sheba the son of Bichri. ⁸ When they were at the great stone which is in Gibeon, Amasa went before them. And Joab's garment that he had put on was girded to him, and on it a girdle with a sword fastened on his loins in its sheath; and as he went forth it fell out.

²² But of the children of Israel did Solomon make no servants: But they were men of war, and his servants, and his princes, and his captains, and rulers of his chariots, and his horsemen.

³² And he lifted up his face to the window, and said, "Who is on my side? Who? And there looked out to him two or three eunuchs.

⁵ And he that was over the house, and he that was over the city, the elders also, and the bringers up of the children, sent to Jehu, saying, "We are your servants, and will do all that you shall bid us; we will not make any king: Do you that which is good in your eyes.

¹⁷ And Abigail bore Amasa: And the father of Amasa was Jether the Ishmeelite.

¹⁷ For He put on righteousness as a breastplate, and a helmet of salvation on His head; and He put on the garments of vengeance for clothing, and was clad with zeal as a cloak.

²³ Thus says the LORD of hosts; 'In those days it shall come to pass, that ten men shall take hold out of all languages of the nations, even shall take hold of the skirt of him that is a Jew, saying, "We will go with you: For we have heard that God is with you."

³⁰ He that is not with Me is against Me; and he that does not gather with Me scatters abroad.

⁶⁷ Then Jesus said to the twelve, "Will you also go away?" ⁶⁸ Then Simon Peter answered Him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.

¹⁶ And as many as walk according to this rule, peace be upon them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God.

²³ Peace be to the brethren, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. ²⁴ Grace be with all those who love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity. Amen.

² And the lords of the Philistines passed on by hundreds, and by thousands: But David and his men passed on in the rear-guard with Achish. ³ Then the princes of the Philistines said, "What are these Hebrews doing here?" And Achish said to the princes of the Philistines, "Is this not David, the servant of Saul the king of Israel, who has been with me these days, or these years, and I have found no fault in him since he fell fugitive to me, even to this day?" ⁴ And the princes of the Philistines were wroth with him; and the princes of the Philistines said to him, "Make this fellow return, that he may go back to his place which you have appointed him, and let him not go down with us to battle, lest in the battle he be an adversary to us: For with what should he reconcile himself to his master? Should it not be with the heads of these men? ⁵ Is this not David, of whom they sang to one another in dances, saying, 'Saul slew his thousands, and David his ten thousands?' " ⁶ Then Achish called David, and said to him, "Surely, as the LORD lives, you have been upright, and your going out and your coming in with me in the army is good in my sight: For I have not found evil in you since the day of your coming to me, even to this day: Nevertheless, the lords do not favor you. ⁷ Therefore now return, and go in peace, that you do not displease the lords of the Philistines." ⁸ And David said to Achish, "But what have I done? And what have you found in your servant so long as I have been with you to this day, that I may not go fight against the enemies of my lord the king?" ⁹ And Achish answered and said to David, "I know that you are good in my sight, as an angel of God: Notwithstanding, the princes of the Philistines have said, 'He shall not go up with us to the battle.'

²¹ Moreover you shall provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens:

¹⁵ So I took the chief of your tribes, wise men, and known, and made them heads over you, captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, and captains over fifties, and captains over tens, and officers among your tribes.

¹⁷ His glory is like the firstling of his bull, and his horns are like the horns of unicorns: With them he shall push the people together to the ends of the earth: And they are the ten thousands of Ephraim, and they are the thousands of Manasseh.

¹¹ So David and his men rose up early to depart in the morning, to return into the land of the Philistines. And the Philistines went up to Jezreel.

¹ And it came to pass when David and his men had come to Ziklag, that on the third day the Amalekites invaded the south, and Ziklag, and smitten Ziklag, and burned it with fire; ² and had taken the women that were in it captive: They did not slay any, either great or small, but carried them away, and went on their way. ³ So David and his men came to the city, and behold, it was burned with fire; and their wives, and their sons, and their daughters, were taken captive. ⁴ Then David and the people that were with him lifted up their voice and wept, until they had no more power to weep. ⁵ And David's two wives were taken captive, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite. ⁶ And David was greatly distressed; for the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: But David encouraged himself in the LORD his God. ⁷ And David said to Abiathar the priest, Ahimelech's son, I implore you, bring the ephod here to me. And Abiathar brought the ephod there to David. ⁸ And David inquired at the LORD, saying, "Shall I pursue after this troop? Shall I overtake them?" And He answered him, "Pursue: For you shall surely overtake them, and without fail recover all." ⁹ So David went, he and the six hundred men that were with him, and came to the brook Besor, where those that were left behind stayed. ¹⁰ But David pursued, he and four hundred men: For two hundred stayed behind, which were so faint that they could not go over the brook Besor. ¹¹ And they found an Egyptian in the field, and brought him to David, and gave him bread, and he ate; and they made him drink water; ¹² and they gave him a piece of a cake of figs, and two clusters of raisins: And when he had eaten, his spirit came again to him: For he had eaten no bread, nor drunk any water, three days and three nights. ¹³ And David said to him, "To whom do you belong? And where are you from?" And he said, "I am a young man of Egypt, servant to an Amalekite; and my master left me, because three days ago I fell sick. ¹⁴ We made an invasion on the south of the Cherethites, and upon the border which belongs to Judah, and upon the south of Caleb; and we burned Ziklag with fire. ¹⁵ And David said to him, "Can you bring me down to this company?" And he said, "Swear to me by God, that you will neither kill me, nor deliver me into the hands of my master, and I will bring you down to this company." ¹⁶ And when he had brought him down, behold, they were spread out widely upon all the earth, eating and drinking, and dancing, because of all the great spoil that they had taken out of the land of the Philistines, and out of the land of Judah. ¹⁷ And David smote them from the twilight even until the evening of the next day: And not a man of them escaped there, except four hundred young men, which rode upon camels, and fled.

²⁴ And these were the heads of the house of their fathers, even Epher, and Ishi, and Eliel, and Azriel, and Jeremiah, and Hodaviah, and Jahdiel, mighty men of valor, famous men, and heads of the house of their fathers.

²¹ Of the three, he was more honorable than the two; for he was their captain: However, he attained not to the first three. ²² Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the son of a valiant man of Kabzeel, who had done many acts; he slew two lion like men of Moab: Also he went down and slew a lion in a pit in a snowy day.

²⁰ As he went to Ziklag, there fell to him of Manasseh, Adnah, and Jozabad, and Jediael, and Michael, and Jozabad, and Elihu, and Zilthai, captains of the thousands that were of Manasseh.

² And when Jacob saw them, he said, "This is God's host": And he called the name of that place Mahanaim.Mahanaim; that is, Two hosts, or, Two camps

¹⁴ And he said, "No; but as captain of the host of the LORD am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said to him, "What said my Lord to his servant?

² So David went up thither, and his two wives also, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail Nabal's wife the Carmelite. ³ And his men that were with him did David bring up, every man with his household: And they dwelled in the cities of Hebron. ⁴ And the men of Judah came, and there they anointed David king over the house of Judah. And they told David, saying, "That the men of Jabeshgilead were those that buried Saul.

¹ Now there was long war between the house of Saul and the house of David: But David waxed stronger and stronger, and the house of Saul waxed weaker and weaker.

⁹ The righteous also shall hold on his way, and he that has clean hands shall be stronger and stronger.

² Praise Him, all His angels: Praise Him, all His hosts.

¹ And the LORD said to Samuel, "How long will you mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? Fill your horn with oil, and go, I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite: For I have provided Me a king among his sons."

³ And call Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what you shall do: And you shall anoint to Me him whom I name to you."

¹² And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and at the same time of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look upon. And the LORD said, "Arise, anoint him: For this is he." ¹³ Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brothers: And the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.

¹⁸ Now then do it: For the LORD has spoken of David, saying, "By the hand of my servant David I will save my people Israel out of the hand of the Philistines, and out of the hand of all their enemies.

¹ Then came all the tribes of Israel to David to Hebron, and spoke, saying, "Behold, we are your bone and your flesh. ² Also in time past, when Saul was king over us, you were he that led out and brought in Israel: And the LORD said to you, You shall feed my people Israel, and you shall be a captain over Israel. ³ So all the elders of Israel came to the king to Hebron; and king David made a league with them in Hebron before the LORD: And they anointed David king over Israel.

¹⁴ and inquired not of the LORD: Therefore he slew him, and turned the kingdom to David the son of Jesse.

⁶ "Yet I have set My king upon My holy hill of Zion."

¹⁹ Then You spoke in a vision to Your holy one, and said, "I have laid help upon one that is mighty; I have exalted one chosen out of the people. ²⁰ I have found David My servant; with My holy oil I have anointed him:

⁴ And the seventh year Jehoiada sent and fetched the rulers over hundreds, with the captains and the guard, and brought them to him into the house of the LORD, and made a covenant with them, and took an oath of them in the house of the LORD, and showed them the king's son.

⁹ And the captains over the hundreds did according to all things that Jehoiada the priest commanded: And they took every man his men that were to come in on the Sabbath, with those that should go out on the Sabbath, and came to Jehoiada the priest.

¹⁸ And the captain of the guard took Seraiah the chief priest, and Zephaniah the second priest, and the three keepers of the door:

⁴⁹ But Aaron and his sons offered on the altar of the burnt offering, and on the altar of incense, and were appointed for all the work of the place most holy, and to make an atonement for Israel, according to all that Moses the servant of God had commanded. ⁵⁰ And these are the sons of Aaron; Eleazar his son, Phinehas his son, Abishua his son, ⁵¹ bukki his son, Uzzi his son, Zerahiah his son, ⁵² meraioth his son, Amariah his son, Ahitub his son, ⁵³ zadok his son, Ahimaaz his son. ⁵⁴ Now these are their dwelling places throughout their castles in their coasts, of the sons of Aaron, of the families of the Kohathites: For theirs was the lot. ⁵⁵ And they gave them Hebron in the land of Judah, and its suburbs all around it. ⁵⁶ But the fields of the city, and its villages, they gave to Caleb the son of Jephunneh. ⁵⁷ And to the sons of Aaron they gave the cities of Judah, namely, Hebron, the city of refuge, and Libnah with her suburbs, and Jattir, and Eshtemoa, with their suburbs,

²⁰ And Phinehas the son of Eleazar was the ruler over them in time past, and the LORD was with him.

¹⁷ Of the Levites, Hashabiah the son of Kemuel: Of the Aaronites, Zadok:

¹⁷ and Zadok the son of Ahitub, and Ahimelech the son of Abiathar, were the priests; and Seraiah was the scribe;

⁸ But Zadok the priest, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and Nathan the prophet, and Shimei, and Rei, and the mighty men which belonged to David, were not with Adonijah.

³⁵ And the king put Benaiah the son of Jehoiada in his room over the host: And Zadok the priest did the king put in the room of Abiathar.

⁸ and Ahitub begat Zadok, and Zadok begat Ahimaaz,

⁵³ zadok his son, Ahimaaz his son.

¹⁵ But the priests the Levites, the sons of Zadok, that kept the ordinances of My sanctuary when the children of Israel went astray from Me, they shall come near to Me to minister to Me, and they shall stand before Me to offer to Me the fat and the blood", says the Lord GOD:

²³ And he took his brothers with him, and pursued after him seven days' journey; and they overtook him in the Mount Gilead.

⁸ But Abner the son of Ner, captain of Saul's host, took Ishbosheth the son of Saul, and brought him over to Mahanaim; ⁹ and made him king over Gilead, and over the Ashurites, and over Jezreel, and over Ephraim, and over Benjamin, and over all Israel.

² They were armed with bows, and could use both the right hand and the left in hurling stones and shooting arrows out of a bow, even of Saul's brothers of Benjamin.

⁴ There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men, and they bore children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.

¹ There was also a lot for the tribe of Manasseh; for he was the firstborn of Joseph; to wit, for Machir the firstborn of Manasseh, the father of Gilead: Because he was a man of war, therefore he had Gilead and Bashan. ² There was also a lot for the rest of the children of Manasseh by their families; for the children of Abiezer, and for the children of Helek, and for the children of Asriel, and for the children of Shechem, and for the children of Hepher, and for the children of Shemida: These were the male children of Manasseh the son of Joseph by their families. ³ But Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, had no sons, but daughters: And these are the names of his daughters, Mahlah, and Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah. ⁴ And they came near before Eleazar the priest, and before Joshua the son of Nun, and before the princes, saying, "The LORD commanded Moses to give us an inheritance among our brothers. Therefore according to the commandment of the LORD he gave them an inheritance among the brothers of their father. ⁵ And there fell ten portions to Manasseh, beside the land of Gilead and Bashan, which were on the other side of the Jordan; ⁶ because the daughters of Manasseh had an inheritance among his sons: And the rest of Manasseh's sons had the land of Gilead. ⁷ And the border of Manasseh was from Asher to Michmethah, that lies before Shechem; and the border went along on the right hand to the inhabitants of Entappuah. ⁸ Now Manasseh had the land of Tappuah: But Tappuah on the border of Manasseh belonged to the children of Ephraim; ⁹ and the coast descended to the river Kanah, southward of the river: These cities of Ephraim are among the cities of Manasseh: The border of Manasseh also was on the north side of the river, and the outgoings of it were at the sea: ¹⁰ Southward it was Ephraim's, and northward it was Manasseh's, and the sea is his border; and they met together in Asher on the north, and in Issachar on the east. ¹¹ And Manasseh had in Issachar and in Asher Bethshean and her towns, and Ibleam and her towns, and the inhabitants of Dor and her towns, and the inhabitants of Endor and her towns, and the inhabitants of Taanach and her towns, and the inhabitants of Megiddo and her towns, even three countries. ¹² Yet the children of Manasseh could not drive out the inhabitants of those cities; but the Canaanites would dwell in that land. ¹³ Yet it came to pass, when the children of Israel were waxen strong, that they put the Canaanites to tribute, but did not utterly drive them out. ¹⁴ And the children of Joseph spoke to Joshua, saying, "Why have you given me but one lot and one portion to inherit, seeing I am a great people, for as much as the LORD has blessed me till now? ¹⁵ And Joshua answered them, If you be a great people, then get you up to the wood country, and cut down for yourself there in the land of the Perizzites and of the giants, if Mount Ephraim be too narrow for you. ¹⁶ And the children of Joseph said, "The hill is not enough for us: And all the Canaanites that dwell in the land of the valley have chariots of iron, both they who are of Bethshean and her towns, and they who are of the valley of Jezreel. ¹⁷ And Joshua spoke to the house of Joseph, even to Ephraim and to Manasseh, saying, "You are a great people, and have great power: You shall not have one lot only: ¹⁸ But the mountain shall be yours; for it is a wood, and you shall cut it down: And the outgoings of it shall be yours: For you shall drive out the Canaanites, though they have iron chariots, and though they be strong.

¹⁴ Issachar is a strong donkey couching down between two burdens:

¹³ Then the king said to the wise men, which knew the times, (for so was the king's manner toward all that knew law and judgment:

⁸ The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way: But the folly of fools is deceit.

⁵ A wise man is strong; yes, a man of knowledge increases strength.

¹⁹ Wisdom strengthens the wise more than ten mighty men who are in the city.

¹⁸ Wisdom is better than weapons of war: But one sinner destroys much good."

¹² And in that day the Lord GOD of hosts did call for weeping, and for mourning, and for baldness, and for girding with sackcloth: ¹³ And behold joy and gladness, slaying oxen, and killing sheep, eating flesh, and drinking wine: Let us eat and drink; for tomorrow we shall die. ¹⁴ And it was revealed in my ears by the LORD of hosts, "Surely this iniquity shall not be purged from you till you die", said the Lord GOD of hosts.

⁶ And wisdom and knowledge shall be the stability of your times, and strength of salvation: The fear of the LORD is His treasure.

⁹ The LORD's voice cries to the city, and the man of wisdom shall see Your name: "Hear the rod all you, and Who has appointed it.

³ And in the morning, 'It will be foul weather today: For the sky is red and dark.' O you hypocrites, you can discern the face of the sky; but can you not discern the signs of the times?

⁵⁶ You hypocrites, you can discern the face of the sky and of the earth; but how is it that you do not discern this time? ⁵⁷ Yes, and why do you not judge what is right, even of yourselves?

¹⁷ Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

² They speak vanity, everyone with his neighbor: With flattering lips and with a double heart they speak.

⁴⁷ Jesus saw Nathanael coming to Him, and said of him, "Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!"

³³ Of Zebulun, such as went forth to battle, expert in war, with all instruments of war, fifty thousand, which could keep rank: They were not of double heart.

⁷ They shall run like mighty men; they shall climb the wall like men of war; and they shall march, everyone, on his pathways, and they shall not break their ranks:

³³ And Moses gave to them, even to the children of Gad, and to the children of Reuben, and to half the tribe of Manasseh the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land, with its cities in the coasts, even the cities of the country all around. ³⁴ And the children of Gad built Dibon, and Ataroth, and Aroer, ³⁵ and Atroth, Shophan, and Jaazer, and Jogbehah, ³⁶ and Bethnimrah, and Bethharan, fenced cities: And folds for sheep. ³⁷ And the children of Reuben built Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Kirjathaim, ³⁸ and Nebo, and Baalmeon, (their names being changed), and Shibmah: And gave other names to the cities which they built. ³⁹ And the children of Machir the son of Manasseh went to Gilead, and took it, and dispossessed the Amorite which was in it. ⁴⁰ And Moses gave Gilead to Machir the son of Manasseh; and he dwelled in it. ⁴¹ And Jair the son of Manasseh went and took the small towns of it, and called them Havothjair. ⁴² And Nobah went and took Kenath, and its villages, and called it Nobah, after his own name.

¹² And this land, which we possessed at that time, from Aroer, which is by the river Arnon, and half Mount Gilead, and its cities, gave I to the Reubenites and to the Gadites. ¹³ And the rest of Gilead, and all Bashan, being the kingdom of Og, gave I to the half tribe of Manasseh; all the region of Argob, with all Bashan, which was called the land of giants. ¹⁴ Jair the son of Manasseh took all the country of Argob to the borders of Geshuri and Maachathi; and called them after his own name, Bashanhavothjair, to this day. ¹⁵ And I gave Gilead to Machir. ¹⁶ And to the Reubenites and to the Gadites I gave from Gilead even to the river Arnon half the valley, and the border even to the river Jabbok, which is the border of the children of Ammon;

⁷ Now therefore divide this land for an inheritance to the nine tribes, and the half tribe of Manasseh, ⁸ with whom the Reubenites and the Gadites have received their inheritance, which Moses gave them, beyond the Jordan eastward, even as Moses the servant of the LORD gave them; ⁹ from Aroer, that is on the bank of the river Arnon, and the city that is in the middle of the river, and all the plain of Medeba to Dibon; ¹⁰ and all the cities of Sihon king of the Amorites, which reigned in Heshbon, to the border of the children of Ammon; ¹¹ and Gilead, and the border of the Geshurites and Maachathites, and all Mount Hermon, and all Bashan to Salcah; ¹² all the kingdom of Og in Bashan, which reigned in Ashtaroth and in Edrei, who remained of the remnant of the giants: For these did Moses smite, and cast them out. ¹³ Nevertheless the children of Israel expelled not the Geshurites, nor the Maachathites: But the Geshurites and the Maachathites dwell among the Israelites until this day. ¹⁴ Only to the tribes of Levi he gave none inheritance; the sacrifices of the LORD God of Israel made by fire are their inheritance, as he said to them. ¹⁵ And Moses gave to the tribe of the children of Reuben inheritance according to their families. ¹⁶ And their coast was from Aroer, that is on the bank of the river Arnon, and the city that is in the middle of the river, and all the plain by Medeba; ¹⁷ heshbon, and all her cities that are in the plain; Dibon, and Bamothbaal, and Bethbaalmeon, ¹⁸ and Jahaza, and Kedemoth, and Mephaath, ¹⁹ and Kirjathaim, and Sibmah, and Zarethshahar in the mount of the valley, ²⁰ and Bethpeor, and Ashdothpisgah, and Bethjeshimoth, ²¹ and all the cities of the plain, and all the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, which reigned in Heshbon, whom Moses smote with the princes of Midian, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, which were dukes of Sihon, dwelling in the country. ²² Balaam also the son of Beor, the soothsayer, did the children of Israel slay with the sword among those that were slain by them. ²³ And the border of the children of Reuben was Jordan, and its border. This was the inheritance of the children of Reuben after their families, the cities and its villages. ²⁴ And Moses gave inheritance to the tribe of Gad, even to the children of Gad according to their families. ²⁵ And their coast was Jazer, and all the cities of Gilead, and half the land of the children of Ammon, to Aroer that is before Rabbah; ²⁶ and from Heshbon to Ramathmizpeh, and Betonim; and from Mahanaim to the border of Debir; ²⁷ and in the valley, Betharam, and Bethnimrah, and Succoth, and Zaphon, the rest of the kingdom of Sihon king of Heshbon, Jordan and his border, even to the edge of the sea of Chinnereth on the other side of the Jordan eastward. ²⁸ This is the inheritance of the children of Gad after their families, the cities, and their villages. ²⁹ And Moses gave inheritance to the half tribe of Manasseh: And this was the possession of the half tribe of the children of Manasseh by their families. ³⁰ And their coast was from Mahanaim, all Bashan, all the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, and all the towns of Jair, which are in Bashan, three score cities: ³¹ And half Gilead, and Ashtaroth, and Edrei, cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan, were pertaining to the children of Machir the son of Manasseh, even to the one half of the children of Machir by their families. ³² These are the countries which Moses did distribute for inheritance in the plains of Moab, on the other side of the Jordan, by Jericho, eastward.

³ For Moses had given the inheritance of two tribes and a half tribe on the other side of the Jordan: But to the Levites he gave none inheritance among them.

¹ Then Joshua called the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh, ² and said to them, "You have kept all that Moses the servant of the LORD commanded you, and have obeyed my voice in all that I commanded you: ³ You have not left your brothers these many days to this day, but have kept the charge of the commandment of the LORD your God. ⁴ And now the LORD your God has given rest to your brothers, as he promised them: Therefore now return yourself, and get you to your tents, and to the land of your possession, which Moses the servant of the LORD gave you on the other side of the Jordan. ⁵ But take diligent heed to do the commandment and the law, which Moses the servant of the LORD charged you, to love the LORD your God, and to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and to hold to him, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul. ⁶ So Joshua blessed them, and sent them away: And they went to their tents. ⁷ Now to the one half of the tribe of Manasseh Moses had given possession in Bashan: But to the other half of it gave Joshua among their brothers on this side of the Jordan westward. And when Joshua sent them away also to their tents, then he blessed them, ⁸ and he spoke to them, saying, "Return with much riches to your tents, and with very much domestic beasts, with silver, and with gold, and with brass, and with iron, and with very much clothing: Divide the spoil of your enemies with your brothers. ⁹ And the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh returned, and departed from the children of Israel out of Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan, to go to the country of Gilead, to the land of their possession, whereof they were possessed, according to the word of the LORD by the hand of Moses. ¹⁰ And when they came to the borders of Jordan, that are in the land of Canaan, the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh built an altar there by Jordan, a great altar to see to.

¹ Now the sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel, (for he was the firstborn; but for as much as he defiled his father's bed, his birthright was given to the sons of Joseph the son of Israel: And the genealogy is not to be reckoned after the birthright. ² For Judah prevailed above his brothers, and of him came the chief ruler; but the birthright was Joseph's): ³ The sons, I say, "of Reuben the firstborn of Israel were, Hanoch, and Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi. ⁴ The sons of Joel; Shemaiah his son, Gog his son, Shimei his son, ⁵ micah his son, Reaia his son, Baal his son, ⁶ beerah his son, whom Tilgathpilneser king of Assyria carried away captive: He was prince of the Reubenites. ⁷ And his brothers by their families, when the genealogy of their generations was reckoned, were the chief, Jeiel, and Zechariah, ⁸ and Bela the son of Azaz, the son of Shema, the son of Joel, who dwelled in Aroer, even to Nebo and Baalmeon: ⁹ And eastward he inhabited to the entering in of the wilderness from the river Euphrates: Because their domestic beasts were multiplied in the land of Gilead. ¹⁰ And in the days of Saul they made war with the Hagarites, who fell by their hand: And they dwelled in their tents throughout all the east land of Gilead.

⁸ Judah, you are he whom your brothers shall praise: Your hand shall be on the neck of your enemies; your father's children shall bow down before you. ⁹ Judah is a lion's whelp: From the prey, my son, you have gone up: He stooped down, he couched as a lion, and as an old lion; who shall rouse him up? ¹⁰ The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh comes; and the gathering of the people shall be to Him.Shiloh is a by-name for The Messiah

⁶¹ Let your heart therefore be perfect with the LORD our God, to walk in his statutes, and to keep his commandments, as at this day.

⁴ For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods: And his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as was the heart of David his father.

³ I beseech you, O LORD, remember now how I have walked before you in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in your sight. And Hezekiah wept sore.

¹⁷ And David went out to meet them, and answered and said to them, "If you be come peaceably to me to help me, my heart shall be knit to you: But if you be come to betray me to my enemies, seeing there is no wrong in my hands, the God of our fathers look on it, and rebuke it. ¹⁸ Then the spirit came on Amasai, who was chief of the captains, and he said, "Your are we, David, and on your side, you son of Jesse: Peace, peace be to you, and peace be to your helpers; for your God helps you. Then David received them, and made them captains of the band.

¹² Also in Judah the hand of God was to give them one heart to do the commandment of the king and of the princes, by the word of the LORD.

² I will behave wisely myself in a perfect way. O when will You come to me? I will walk within my house with a perfect heart.

³ Your people shall be willing in the day of Your power, in the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning: You have the dew of Your youth.

¹⁹ And I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within you; and I will take the stony heart out of their flesh, and will give them a heart of flesh:

³⁰ And he made them a feast, and they ate and drank.

⁵⁴ Then Jacob offered sacrifice upon the mount, and called his brethren to eat bread: And they ate bread, and tarried all night in the mount.

¹⁹ And he dealt among all the people, even among the whole multitude of Israel, as well to the women as men, to every one a cake of bread, and a good piece of flesh, and a flagon of wine. So all the people departed every one to his house.

⁴² And all the men of Judah answered the men of Israel, Because the king is near of kin to us: Why then be you angry for this matter? Have we eaten at all of the king's cost? Or has he given us any gift?

¹⁸ Then Abigail made haste, and took two hundred loaves, and two bottles of wine, and five sheep ready dressed, and five measures of parched grain kernels, and a hundred clusters of raisins, and two hundred cakes of figs, and laid them on donkeys.

¹ And when David was a little past the top of the hill, behold, Ziba the servant of Mephibosheth met him, with a couple of donkeys saddled, and on them two hundred loaves of bread, and a hundred bunches of raisins, and a hundred of summer fruits, and a bottle of wine.

²⁷ And it came to pass, when David had come to Mahanaim, that Shobi the son of Nahash of Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and Machir the son of Ammiel of Lodebar, and Barzillai the Gileadite of Rogelim, ²⁸ brought beds, and basins, and earthen vessels, and wheat, and barley, and flour, and parched grain kernels, and beans, and lentils, and parched vegetables, ²⁹ and honey, and butter, and sheep, and cheese of cows, for David, and for the people that were with him, to eat: For they said, "The people is hungry, and weary, and thirsty, in the wilderness.

⁴⁰ And all the people came up after him, and the people piped with pipes, and rejoiced with great joy, so that the earth rent with the sound of them.

²⁰ And all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was in quiet: And they slew Athaliah with the sword beside the king's house.

¹⁰ When it goes well with the righteous, the city rejoices: And when the wicked perish, there is shouting.

² When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: But when the wicked bears rule, the people mourn.

⁵ "Behold, the days come", said the LORD, "that I will raise to David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth. ⁶ In His days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: And this is His name by which he shall be called: THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.

³⁷ And when He was drawing near, even now at the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen; ³⁸ saying, " 'Blessed be the King that comes in the name of the LORD': Peace in heaven, and glory in the highest."

⁵ Then a voice came out of the throne, saying, "Praise our God, all you His servants, and you that fear Him, both small and great." ⁶ And I heard as it were the voice of a large multitude, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, "Alleluia: For the Lord God Omnipotent reigns. ⁷ Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honor to Him: For the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready."
