Acts 18 Cross References - Sawyer

1 (16:1) AND after this Paul left Athens and came to Corinth. 2 And finding a certain Jew by the name of Aquila, a native of Pontus, who had recently come from Italy, and his wife Priscilla, because Claudius had ordered all the Jews to leave Rome, he went to them, 3 and because he was of the same trade continued and labored with them; for they were tent makers. 4 And he reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded both Jews and Greeks. 5 (16:2) And when Silas and Timothy came from Macedonia, Paul gave himself wholly to preaching the word, testifying to the Jews Christ Jesus. 6 But when they disputed and blasphemed, shaking his garments he said to them, Your blood be upon your heads; I, pure, from this time will go to the gentiles. 7 (16:3) And departing thence he came into the house of a man called Justus, who worshipped God, and whose house adjoined the synagogue. 8 And Crispus the synagogue ruler believed in the Lord, with all his house; and many of the Corinthians who heard believed and were baptized. 9 And the Lord said to Paul, in a vision by night, Fear not, but speak and be not silent, 10 for I am with you; and no one shall attack you to hurt you, for I have many people in this city. 11 And he remained there a year and six months, teaching among them the word of God. 12 (16:4) And when Gallio was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews rose with one consent against Paul and brought him to the tribunal, 13 saying, This man persuades men to worship God contrary to the law. 14 And when Paul was about to open his mouth Gallio said to the Jews, If there was any injustice or evil imposition, O Jews, I would bear with you in a reasonable manner; 15 but if it is a question of doctrine, and of names, and of your law, look to it yourselves; for I will not be a judge of these things. 16 And he drove them from the tribunal. 17 And they all took Sosthenes the synagogue-ruler and beat him before the tribunal; and Gallio cared for none of these things. 18 (16:5) And Paul having remained yet many days took leave of the brothers, and sailed to Syria; and Priscilla was with him, and Aquila, having shaved his head at Cenchrea; for he had a vow. 19 And they came to Ephesus, and he left them there, and entering himself into the synagogue reasoned with the Jews. 20 And they asking him to stay a longer time with them he did not consent, 21 but taking leave of them and saying, I will return to you again, if God will, he sailed from, Ephesus, 22 and coming down to Caesarea, and going up and saluting the church, he went down to Antioch; 23 and having spent some time there he went away, passing in order through the country of Galatia and Phrygia, confirming all the disciples. 24 (17:1) AND a certain Jew by the name of Apollos, an Alexandrian by birth, an eloquent man, came to Ephesus, being powerful in the Scriptures. 25 This man was instructed in the way of the Lord, and being fervent in spirit spoke and taught correctly the doctrines concerning Jesus, knowing only the baptism of John; 26 and this man began to speak boldly in the synagogue, and Priscilla and Aquila hearing him took him and taught him more accurately the way. 27 And he wishing to go into Achaia, the brothers sent him, and wrote to the disciples to receive him. And when he came he helped those much who had believed through the grace; 28 for he argued powerfully against the Jews, publicly showing by the Scriptures that Jesus is the Christ.

Matthew 3:1-17

1 (3:1) AND in those days came John the Baptist preaching in the wilderness of Judea, saying, 2 Change your minds, for the kingdom of Heaven is at hand. 3 For this is he that was spoken of by Isaiah the prophet, saying; A voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. 4 And this John had his clothes of camel's hair, and a leather girdle about his loins, and his food was locusts and wild honey. 5 Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judea, and all the region about the Jordan, 6 and were baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins. 7 (3:2) And seeing many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come for the baptism, he said to them; Offspring of vipers, who has warned you to flee from the wrath to come? 8 Bear fruit, therefore, worthy of a change of mind; 9 and think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham for a father; for I tell you that God is able of these stones to raise up children to Abraham; 10 and already the axe lies at the root of the trees; every tree, therefore, which bears not good fruit is cut down and cast into the fire. 11 I indeed baptize you with water to a change of mind; but he that comes after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not fit to bear; he shall baptize you with the Holy Spirit, and fire; 12 whose winnowing shovel is in his hand, and he will thoroughly clean his threshing floor, and gather his wheat into the storehouse; but the chaff he will burn with an inextinguishable fire. 13 (3:3) Then came Jesus from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized by him. 14 But, he refused him, saying, I have need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me? 15 But Jesus answered and said to him, Suffer me now; for thus, it becomes us to complete all righteousness. Then he suffered him; 16 and Jesus being baptized went up immediately from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descend like a dove and come upon him. 17 And behold, a voice from the heavens, saying, This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.

1 (4:1) AND in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being procurator of Judea, and Herod tetrarch of Galilee, and Philip his brother tetrarch of Ituria and the country of Trachonitis, and Lysanias being tetrarch of Abilene, 2 under the chief priest Annas, and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John the son of Zachariah, in the wilderness. 3 And he went into all the region about the Jordan, preaching the baptism of a change of mind for the forgiveness of sins; 4 as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet; A voice of one crying in the wilderness, prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. 5 Every ravine shall be filled up, and every mountain and hill shall be made low; and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways smooth; 6 and all flesh shall see the salvation of God. 7 (4:2) Then John said to the multitudes who went out to be baptized by him, Offspring of vipers, who has warned you to flee from the wrath to come? 8 Bear fruits, therefore, worthy of a change of mind. And say not within yourselves, We have Abraham for a father; for I tell you that God is able from these stones to raise up children to Abraham. 9 And already also the axe lies at the root of the trees; every tree therefore which bears not good fruit, is cut down and cast into the fire. 10 And the multitudes asked him, saying, What then shall we do? 11 And he answered and said to them, Let him that has two coats give to him that has none; and let him that has food do the same. 12 And publicans, also, came to be baptized, and said to him, Teacher, what shall we do? 13 And he said to them, Do nothing more than is appointed for you. 14 And the soldiers asked him, saying, And what shall we do? And he said to them, Oppress, and falsely accuse, no one; and be contented with your wages. 15 (4:3) And the people being in expectation, and all doubting in their minds concerning John, whether he was the Christ, 16 John answered all, saying, I indeed baptize you with water, but a mightier than I is coming, the strings of whose shoes I am not fit to untie; he shall baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. 17 His winnowing shovel is in his hand, and he will thoroughly clean his threshing floor, and gather the wheat into his storehouse; but the chaff he will burn with an inextinguishable fire. 18 (4:4) With many other exhortations, also, he preached the good news to the people. 19 But Herod the tetrarch, being reproved by him on account of Herodias his brother's wife and for all the evil deeds which Herod had done, 20 added also this to all, and shut up John in prison. 21 (4:5) And when all the people were baptized, Jesus also being baptized, and praying, heaven was opened, 22 and the Holy Spirit descended in a bodily form like a dove upon him; and there was a voice from heaven, saying, You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased. 23 (4:6) And Jesus was about thirty years old, being, as was supposed, the son of Joseph, the son of Eli, 24 the son of Matthat, the son of Levi, the son of Melchi, the son of Jannai, the son of Joseph, 25 the son of Mattathias, the son of Amos, the son of Nahum, the son of Esli, the son of Naggai, 26 the son of Maath, the son of Mattathias, the son of Shimei, the son of Josech, the son of Juda, 27 the son of Joannas, the son of Resa, the son of Zerubabel, the son of Shealtiel, the son of Neri, 28 the son of Melchi, the son of Addi, the son of Cosam, the son of Elmodam, the son of Er, 29 the son of Joshua, the son of Eliezer, the son of Jorim, the son of Matthat, the son of Levi, 30 the son of Simeon, the son of Judah, the son of Joseph, the son of Jonan, the son of Eliakim, 31 the son of Meleas, the son of Mennas, the son of Mattatha, the son of Nathan, the son of David, 32 the son of Jesse, the son of Obed, the son of Boaz, the son of Salmon, the son of Naason, 33 the son of Aminadab, the son of Admein, the son of Arni, the son of Hezron, the son of Pharez, the son of Judah, 34 the son of Jacob, the son of Isaac, the son of Abraham, the son of Terah, the son of Nahor, 35 the son of Serug, the son of Reu, the son of Peleg, the son of Heber, the son of Selah, 36 the son of Cainan, the son of Arphaxad, the son of Shem, the son of Noah, the son of Lamech, 37 the son of Methusaleh, the son of Enoch, the son of Jared, the son of Mahaleel, the son of Cainan, 38 the son of Enos, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the Son of God.

And he said, I am not. Are you the prophet? And he answered, No. 22 Then they said to him, Who are you? that we may give an answer to them that sent us; what say you of yourself? 23 He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as Isaiah the prophet said. 24 (2:2) And those sent were of the Pharisees. 25 And they asked him, and said to him, Why then do you baptize, if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the prophet? 26 John answered them saying, I baptize with water; but among you stands one whom you know not. 27 He is the one coming after me, the strings of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie. 28 These things occurred in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing. 29 (2:3) On the next day he saw Jesus coming to him, and said, Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world. 30 This is he of whom I said, After me comes a man who was before me, for he was before me. 31 And I knew him not; but that he might be made manifest to Israel, for this reason have I come baptizing with water. 32 And John testified saying, I saw the Spirit descend like a dove from heaven, and it remained on him. 33 And I knew him not, but he that sent me to baptize with water, he said to me, On whom you see the Spirit descend and remain on him, this is he that baptizes with the Holy Spirit. 34 And I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God. 35 (2:4) On the next day John was again standing, and two of his disciples, 36 and looking at Jesus as he walked, he said, Behold the Lamb of God.

1 (15:1) AND travelling through Amphipolis and Apollonia they came to Thessalonica, where there was a synagogue of the Jews. 2 And according to his custom Paul went in to them, and reasoned with them three sabbaths from the Scriptures, 3 explaining and asserting that the Christ ought to suffer and to rise from the dead; and that this Jesus whom I preach to you is the Christ.

Acts 17:3

3 explaining and asserting that the Christ ought to suffer and to rise from the dead; and that this Jesus whom I preach to you is the Christ. 4 And some of them believed and adhered to Paul and Silas; of the pious Greeks a great multitude, and of the chief women not a few. 5 But the unbelieving Jews taking certain base men of those about the markets, and exciting a mob, disturbed the city; and coming to the house of Jason sought to bring them out to the people;

Acts 17:13

13 And when the Jews in Thessalonica knew that the word of God was preached by Paul at Berea, they came there exciting the multitudes. 14 (15:3) Then the brothers immediately sent Paul away, as if to go by sea; but Silas and Timothy remained there. 15 And those conducting Paul brought him to Athens, and receiving a charge to Silas and Timothy to come to him as soon as possible, they departed.

Acts 17:15-16

15 And those conducting Paul brought him to Athens, and receiving a charge to Silas and Timothy to come to him as soon as possible, they departed. 16 (15:4) And while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was moved within him as he saw the city wholly devoted to idolatry. 17 Then he reasoned in the synagogue with the Jews and those that were pious, and in the market every day with those he met.

Acts 18:24

Acts 19:9

9 But when some were hardened and believed not, speaking evil of the way before the multitude, he left them and separated the disciples from them, and reasoned day by day in the school of one Tyrannus. 10 And this was done for two years, so that all who lived in Asia heard the word of the Lord, both Jews and Greeks.

Acts 21:28

28 crying, Men of Israel, help; this is the man who teaches all men everywhere against the people, and the law, and this place, and besides he has brought Greeks into the temple, and defiled this holy place. 29 For they had before seen Trophimus the Ephesian in the city with him, and supposed that Paul had brought him into the temple. 30 And all the city was moved, and there was a concourse of the people, and taking hold of Paul they dragged him without the temple, and immediately the gates were shut. 31 (20:2) And while they were seeking to kill him, a report went up to the chiliarch of the cohort that all Jerusalem was in commotion; 32 who immediately taking soldiers and centurions ran down upon them; and seeing the chiliarch and the soldiers, they ceased beating Paul. 33 Then the chiliarch approaching took him, and commanded him to be bound with two chains, and inquired who he was and what he had done. 34 But some cried one thing, and some another, in the multitude, and not being able to learn the truth, on account of the tumult, he commanded him to be carried into the fortress. 35 And when he was on the steps, it happened that he was borne by the soldiers, on account of the violence of the multitude; 36 for the multitude of the people followed, crying, Take him away.

8 while Paul maintained in his defense, Neither against the law of the Jews, nor against the temple, nor against Caesar, have I done any wrong. 9 (23:3) But Festus wishing to gratify the Jews, answered Paul and said, Are you willing to go up to Jerusalem, and there be tried by me for these things? 10 And Paul said, I stand at the tribunal of Caesar, where I ought to be tried. I have not injured the Jews, as you also know very well. 11 If indeed I have done wrong or committed any thing worthy of death, I refuse not to die; but if those things of which they accuse me are nothing, no man may give me up to them; I appeal to Caesar.

Romans 8:31

31 (6:5) What shall we say then to these things? If God is for us, who is against us?

Romans 9:25-26

25 as he says also in Hosea, I will call them that were not my people, my people, and her that was not beloved, beloved, 26 and in the place where it was said to them, You are not my people, there they shall be called children of the living God.

Romans 9:30-33

30 (7:3) What shall we say then? That nations who did not pursue righteousness attained a righteousness, but the righteousness which is by faith; 31 but Israel who pursued the law of righteousness did not attain to the law of righteousness. 32 For what reason? Because they are not of faith, but as it were of works of the law; for they stumbled at the stone of stumbling, 33 as it is written; Behold, I lay in Zion a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense, and he that believes on him shall not be ashamed.

Romans 10:12-13

12 For there is no difference between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord of all is rich to all that call upon him. 13 For every one that calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. 14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without one preaching? 15 and how shall they preach unless they have been sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of those that publish good news of peace, that publish good news of good things. 16 (7:5) But all did not obey the gospel; for Isaiah says, Lord, who believed our report? 17 Faith therefore comes by the report, and the report by the word of God.

Romans 10:20-21

20 But Isaiah is more bold and says, I was found by them that sought me not, I was made manifest to them that inquired not after me. 21 But in respect to Israel he says, All the day I stretched out my hands to a disobedient and contradicting people.

Romans 11:11-15

11 (8:2) I say then, have they stumbled that they should fall? By no means; but by their fall the nations have salvation to excite them to emulation. 12 But if their fall is the riches of the world, and their diminution the riches of nations, how much more will their fullness be. 13 For I speak to you, gentiles. Inasmuch as I am an apostle of the gentiles, I glorify my ministry, 14 if perhaps I may excite my flesh [race] to emulation and save some of them. 15 For if their falling away is the reconciling of the world, what will their recovery be but life from the dead?

Romans 12:11

11 be not slothful in business, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord,

Romans 13:3

3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Will you not fear the power? Do good, and you shall have praise from it;

Romans 13:3-4

3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Will you not fear the power? Do good, and you shall have praise from it; 4 for [the power] is God's minister to you for good. But if you do evil, fear; for it bears not the sword in vain; for it is God's minister of justice for punishment to him that does evil.

1 (11:1) AND I commend to you Phoebe our sister, who is a minister of the church in Cenchrea, 2 that you receive her in the Lord worthily of the saints, and assist her in any thing in which she may have need of you; for she has been an assistant of many, and of myself also. 3 (11:2) Salute Prisca [Priscilla] and Aquila my co-laborers in Christ Jesus, 4 who exposed their necks for my life, to whom not only I give thanks but all the churches of the nations; 5 and [salute] the assembly at their house. Salute Epenetus my beloved, who is the first fruit of Asia to Christ.

1 Corinthians 1:1

1 (1:1) PAUL, called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Sosthenes the brother, 2 to the church of God which is at Corinth, to the sanctified in Jesus Christ, called to be saints, with all that call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ in every place, both theirs and ours.

1 Corinthians 1:12

12 I mean this; that each one of you says I indeed am of Paul, and I of Apollos, and I of Cephas, and I of Christ. 13 Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? or were you baptized in the name of Paul? 14 I thank God I baptized none of you, except Crispus and Gaius; 15 that no one may say that I baptized in my name. 16 And I also baptized the family of Stephanus; besides I do not know that I baptized any other. 17 For Christ sent me not to baptize but to preach the good news, not with a wisdom of speech lest the cross of Christ should be without effect.

1 Corinthians 1:23

23 we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews indeed an offense, and to the gentiles foolishness,

1 Corinthians 2:1-2

1 (1:4) And when I came to you, brothers, I came not with excellency of speech, or wisdom, declaring to you the mystery of God. 2 For I determined to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.

1 Corinthians 3:5-6

5 Who then is Apollos? and who is Paul? but ministers by whom you believed, and to each as the Lord gave. 6 I planted, Apollos watered, but God caused [the seed] to grow;

1 Corinthians 3:6

6 I planted, Apollos watered, but God caused [the seed] to grow;

1 Corinthians 3:10-14

10 (1:7) According to the grace of God given me as a wise architect I have laid a foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one see how he builds on it. 11 For no one can lay another foundation besides that laid, which is Christ Jesus. 12 And if any man builds on this foundation, gold, silver, precious stones, wood, grass, reeds, 13 each one's work shall be manifest; for the day shall show it, because it shall be revealed by fire, and the same fire shall try every man's work what it is. 14 If any one's work continues which he has built, he shall receive a reward;

1 Corinthians 3:18

18 Let no one deceive himself; if any one seems to be wise among you in this life, let him be a fool, that he may be wise.

1 Corinthians 4:6

6 (1:10) I have applied these things figuratively, brothers, to myself and Apollos on your account, that you may learn by us not to [go beyond] what is written, that you may not be puffed up for one against another.

1 Corinthians 4:12

12 and labor, working with our hands; being reviled we bless, being persecuted we endure,

1 Corinthians 4:19

19 but I will come to you shortly, if the Lord will, and will know not the word of those who are puffed up but the power;

1 Corinthians 6:9-11

9 Know you not that the unjust shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor the effeminate, nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous persons, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor the rapacious, shall inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you; but you are washed, you are sanctified, but you are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

1 Corinthians 8:2

2 And if any one thinks he knows any thing, he yet knows nothing as he ought to know;

1 Corinthians 9:6-12

6 Or I only and Barnabas, have we not a right to abstain from labor? 7 Who ever goes on a military expedition at his own expense? Who plants a vineyard and eats not the fruit of it? or who feeds a flock and eats not of the milk of the flock? 8 Do I say these things in the manner of men? or does not the law also say the same? 9 For it is written in the law of Moses, You shall not muzzle the ox that threshes. Does God care for oxen? 10 or does he speak entirely for our sakes? For our sakes, doubtless, it was written, that he who plows should plow in hope, and that he who threshes in hope should partake of it. 11 If we have sown for you spiritual things, is it too much if we reap your earthly things? 12 And if others have this right, do we not have it more? But we have not used this right, but endure all things, that we may not impede the gospel of Christ.

1 Corinthians 9:20

20 to the Jews I have been as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to those under the law, as under the law, not being myself under the law, that I might gain those under the law;

1 Corinthians 12:21

21 The eye cannot say to the hand, I have no need of you, or again, the head to the feet, I have no need of you;

3 For I delivered to you at first, what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 and that he was buried, and that he rose on the third day according to the Scriptures,

1 Corinthians 15:10

10 but by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not in vain, but I labored more abundantly than they all, but not I but the grace of God with me.

1 Corinthians 15:32

32 If after the manner of men I have fought with beasts at Ephesus, of what advantage is it to me? If the dead rise not, let us eat and drink, for to-morrow we die.

1 Corinthians 16:1

1 (8:1) CONCERNING the collection for the saints, as I directed the churches of Galatia, so also do you.

12 (8:3) But concerning Apollos the brother, I have exhorted him much to come to you with the brothers; but he was entirely indisposed to come now, but he will come when he has a convenient time.

2 Corinthians 1:23

23 (1:6) But I call God to witness on my soul, that to spare you I have not yet come to Corinth. 24 Not that we are lords of your faith, but co-laborers of your joy; for you stand firm by the faith.

2 Corinthians 3:1-2

1 (1:9) Do we begin again to commend ourselves? or need we, as some, commendatory epistles to you or from you? 2 You are our epistle, written by our hearts, known and read by all men,

2 Corinthians 5:11

11 (1:16) Knowing therefore the fear of the Lord we persuade men, but are made manifest to God; and I hope also to be made manifest in your consciences.

2 Corinthians 5:14

14 For the love of Christ constrains us, judging this, that if one died for all then were all dead;

2 Corinthians 9:2

2 for I know your readiness, of which I boasted in your behalf to the Macedonians that Achaia was ready a year ago, and your zeal has excited many.

2 Corinthians 10:10

10 For the epistles, say they, are weighty and powerful, but the bodily presence is weak and speech contemptible.

2 Corinthians 11:1

1 (3:3) I wish you would bear a little with my folly; and indeed do bear with me.

2 Corinthians 11:4

4 For if he that comes preaches another Jesus whom we did not preach, or you receive another spirit which you did not receive, or another gospel which you did not receive, you might well bear it;

2 Corinthians 11:7

7 Have I done wrong to humble myself that you might be exalted, that I preached the gospel of God to you gratuitously?

2 Corinthians 11:9
