⁴ That arose because of false brethren who secretly slipped in to spy out the liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage.

³¹ Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed in him, If you continue in my word, then you are my disciples indeed; ³² And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. ³³ They answered him, We are Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how is it that you say, You shall be made free? ³⁴ Jesus answered them, Truly, truly, I say to you, Whoever commits sin is the slave of sin. ³⁵ And the slave does not abide in the house forever: but the Son abides forever. ³⁶ If the Son shall make you free, you shall be free indeed.

¹ And certain men who came down from Judaea taught the brethren, saying, Unless you are circumcised according to the custom of Moses, you cannot be saved.

²⁴ Since we have heard that some, to whom we gave no such commandment, went out from us and have troubled you with their words, subverting your souls, saying, You must be circumcised, and keep the law:

³⁰ And from among your own selves men shall arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after them.

¹⁵ For you have not received a spirit of bondage leading to fear; but you have received the Spirit of adoption, by which we cry out, Abba, Father.

¹⁷ Now the Lord is the Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

¹³ For such men are false apostles, deceitful workers, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ.

¹⁷ That which I am speaking, I do not speak with the Lord's authority, but, as it were, foolishly, in boastful confidence.

²⁰ For you bear it if a man brings you into bondage, if a man devours you, if a man takes advantage of you, if a man exalts himself, if a man strikes you on the face.

²⁶ On frequent journeys, in perils from rivers, in perils from robbers, in perils from my own countrymen, in perils from the Gentiles, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils on the sea, in perils among false brethren;

²³ But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up until faith should be revealed. ²⁴ Therefore, the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. ²⁵ But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor. ²⁶ For you are all sons of God by faith in Christ Jesus.

³ So we, when we were children, were in bondage to the elementary principles of the world:

⁹ But now that you have come to know God, or rather, to be known by God, how is it that you turn back again to those weak and beggarly principles, to which you again desire to be in bondage? ¹⁰ You observe days, and months, and seasons, and years.

²⁵ For this Hagar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and corresponds to the present Jerusalem, which is in bondage with her children.

¹ It is for liberty that Christ has made us free. Therefore, stand fast and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.

¹⁰ I have confidence in you through the Lord, that you will take no other view: but he who troubles you shall bear his judgment, whoever he may be.

¹² I wish those who trouble you would even emasculate themselves. ¹³ For, brethren, you have been called to liberty; only do not use your liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but in love serve one another.

⁶ For among them are those who creep into houses, and lead captive weak-willed women laden with sins, led away by various desires,

¹⁶ Live as free men, not using your liberty as a cloak for evil, but live as the servants of God.

¹ But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who secretly shall bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. ² And many shall follow their licentious ways; and because of them the way of truth shall be maligned.

¹⁹ While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the slaves of depravity: for by that which a man is overcome, to that he is enslaved.

¹ Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God: because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

⁴ For certain men have crept in secretly, who were long ago ordained for this condemnation; ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into licentiousness, and denying our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.
