¹ And Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan, and was led in the Spirit in the wilderness

¹⁶ And Jesus, as soon as he was baptized, went up from the water; and, lo! the heavens were opened, and he saw the Spirit of God, descending like a dove, coming upon him.

¹ Then was Jesus led up by the Spirit into the wilderness, to be tempted by the Devil. ² And when he had tasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward hungry. ³ And the tempter came and said to him, If thou art the Son of God, command that these stones become loaves of bread. ⁴ But he answered and said, It is written, "Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceedeth from the mouth of God." ⁵ Then the Devil taketh him into the holy city, and setteth him on the pinnacle of the temple; ⁶ and saith to him, If thou art the Son of God, cast thyself down; for it is written, "He will give his angels charge concerning thee; and in their hands they will bear thee up, that thou mayst not dash thy foot against a stone." ⁷ Jesus said to him, Again it is written, "Thou shalt not make trial of the Lord thy God." ⁸ Again, the Devil taketh him m an exceeding high mountain, and showeth him all the kingdoms of the world, and their glory; ⁹ and said to him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. ¹⁰ Then saith Jesus to him, Be gone, Satan! for it is written, "Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve." ¹¹ Then the Devil leaveth him; and lo! angels came and ministered to him.

¹² And immediately the Spirit driveth him forth into the wilderness. ¹³ And he was in the wilderness forty days, tempted by Satan, and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered to him.

²⁷ And he came in the Spirit into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him according to the custom of the law,

³ And he came into all the country about the Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins;

²¹ And it came to pass, when all the people had been baptized, and Jesus also had been baptized, and was praying, that the heaven was opened, ²² and the Holy Spirit descended upon him in a bodily shape as a dove; and a voice came from heaven: "Thou art my beloved Son; with thee I am well pleased."

¹⁴ And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee; and there went out a report concerning him through all the surrounding country

¹⁸ "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he anointed me to preach glad tidings to the poor; he hath sent me to proclaim deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty the oppressed,

³² And John bore witness, saying, I have seen the Spirit descending as a dove from heaven, and it abode upon him.

³⁴ For he whom God sent speaketh the words of God; for he giveth not the Spirit by measure.

² until the day in which, after he had through the Holy Spirit given commandments to the apostles whom he had chosen, he was taken up;

³⁹ But when they had come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip; and the eunuch saw him no more, for he went on his way rejoicing.

³⁸ relating to Jesus of Nazareth, that God anointed him with the Holy Spirit and with power; who went about doing good, and healing all that were overpowered by the Devil; for God was with him.
