Matthew 19 Cross References - NSB

1 When Jesus finished speaking, he departed from Galilee. He went to the borders of Judea beyond the Jordan. 2 Large crowds followed him, and he healed many of them. 3 Pharisees came to him. They tested him, asking: »Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any reason?« 4 He answered: »Have you not read, that he who made them from the beginning made them male and female? 5 »For this reason, a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife. The two shall become one flesh. 6 »So they are no longer two, but one flesh. What God has joined together, let no man pull apart (separate)!« 7 They asked him: »Why then did Moses command to give a certificate of divorce, to send her away?« 8 He answered: »Moses allowed you to send your wives away because of your hardness of heart. It was not allowed from the beginning. 9 »I tell you, whoever divorces his wife, except for fornication, and marries another, commits adultery. And he who marries her when she is divorced, commits adultery.« 10 The disciples said to him: »This being the case between a man and his wife, it is better not to marry.« 11 He said: »This does not apply to everyone, only to those God has given it to. 12 »For there are men who, from birth, were without sex. There are some who were made that way by men. There are others who have made themselves so for the kingdom of heaven. He who is able to accept this let him accept it.« 13 Then some people brought little children to him. They wanted him to lay his hands on them and bless them. But the disciples tried to stop them. 14 Jesus said: »Let the little ones (children) come to me. Do not keep them away: for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.« 15 He put his hands on them, and then went on his way. 16 One man said: »Master, what good thing must I do, so that I may have eternal life?« 17 Jesus answered him: »Why are you questioning me about what is good? There is one who is good. If you desire life, obey the Law.« 18 The man replied: »Which law?« And Jesus said: »Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false witness, 19 »Honor your father and your mother, and Love your neighbor as yourself.« 20 The man said to him: »I have done all these things; what more is there?« 21 Jesus then replied: »If you wish to be complete, go sell your possessions and give the money to the poor. You will have wealth in heaven. Then follow me!« 22 But hearing these words, the young man went away grieving, for he was very wealthy. 23 Jesus said to his disciples: »Truly I tell you, it is hard for a man with much money to go into the kingdom of heaven. 24 »Again I say, It is easier for a camel to go through a needle’s eye, than for a man with much money to go into the kingdom of God.« 25 The disciples were greatly surprised when they heard this. »Who, then, may have salvation?« they asked. 26 Jesus looked at them and said: »With men this is not possible. All things are possible with God!« 27 Then Peter said: »See, we have given up everything to follow you. What then will we have?« 28 Jesus replied: »Truly I say to you, when all things are made new, and the Son of man is seated in his glory, you who have come after me will be seated on twelve seats, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. 29 »Everyone who has given up houses, or brothers, or sisters, or father, or mother, or child, or land, for my name, will receive many times as much, and have everlasting life. 30 »Many who are first will be last. Some who are last will be first.«

Now God has even let me see your sons.« 12 Joseph took them off his father’s lap and bowed with his face touching the ground. 13 Then Joseph took both of them, Ephraim on his right, facing Israel’s left, and Manasseh on his left, facing Israel’s right, and brought them close to him. 14 But Israel crossed his hands and reached out. He put his right hand on Ephraim’s head, although Ephraim was the younger son. He put his left hand on Manasseh’s head, although Manasseh was older. 15 Jacob blessed Joseph. He said: »May God, in whose presence my grandfather Abraham and my father Isaac walked, may this God who has been my shepherd all my life to this very day, 16 »May the being who rescued me from all evil bless these boys! May they be called by my name and by the names of my grandfather Abraham and my father Isaac. May they have many children on the earth.« 17 Joseph saw that his father had put his right hand on Ephraim’s head. Joseph did not like it. So he took his father’s hand in order to move it from Ephraim’s head to Manasseh’s. 18 He said to his father: »That is not right, Father! This is the firstborn. Put your right hand on his head.« 19 His father refused and said: »I know, Son, I know! Manasseh, too, will become a nation. He, too, will be important. Nevertheless, his younger brother will be more important than he. His descendants will become many nations.« 20 That day he blessed them. They were at a place called The Stone Pavement, but in Hebrew, Gabbatha. 14 Now it was the Preparation of the Passover, about the sixth hour. And he said to the Jews: »Behold, your King!« 15 They cried out: »Away with him, away with him, impale him!« Pilate asked: »Should I impale your King?« The chief priests answered: »We have no king but Caesar.« 16 Then he delivered him to them to be impaled.

Romans 7:2

2 Law binds the married woman to her husband while he lives. But if the husband dies, she is discharged from the law of the husband.

Romans 7:2-3

2 Law binds the married woman to her husband while he lives. But if the husband dies, she is discharged from the law of the husband. 3 So then if, while the husband lives, she is joined to another man, she will be called an adulteress. If the husband dies, she is free from the law, so that she is no adulteress, though she is joined to another man.

Romans 7:9

9 I was alive apart from the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died.

Romans 9:30-33

30 What shall we say? The nations did not pursue righteousness. Yet they have attained to righteousness, the righteousness that is based on the principle of faith. 31 But Israel, pursuing after a law of righteousness, has not attained to that law. 32 Why? It is because it was not based on the principle of faith, but on that of works. They have stumbled at the stumbling stone. 33 It is written: »Behold, I place in Zion a stone of stumbling and a rock of offence and he that believes on him will not be ashamed.« (Isaiah 8:14)

Romans 10:5

5 Moses writes down the righteousness that is of the law. The man who has practiced those things shall live by them.

Romans 11:5-7

5 Even so at this present time there is a remnant chosen according to God’s grace. 6 If it is by grace then it is no longer on the basis of works. Otherwise grace is not grace (undeserved kindness). But if it is of works then it is not by grace. Otherwise works are no longer works. 7 What then? Israel has not obtained that which he seeks. The chosen ones have obtained it, and the rest were blinded (rendered stupid) (hardened) (made insensitive).

Romans 12:9

9 Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor evil and cling to good.

1 Corinthians 1:26

26 Consider your calling, brothers. Not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called.

1 Corinthians 1:29

29 No human being should boast before God.

1 Corinthians 2:9

9 It is written: »Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, and it has not entered into the heart of man, the things God prepared for those who love him.« (Isaiah 64:4)

Romans 3:19-23

19 We know that whatever the law says, it speaks to those under the law. Every mouth may be stopped and the entire world may become liable to God for punishment. 20 No flesh will be justified before God by works of the law. Knowledge of sin comes from the law. 21 But now apart from the Law the righteousness of God has been revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets. 22 God makes people righteous through their active faith in Jesus Christ. God does this to all who believe in Christ, because there is no difference at all. 23 For all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God

Romans 5:20-21

20 The law came that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased God’s loving kindness increased even more. 21 And what for? Just as sin reigned in death, even so might grace reign through righteousness to everlasting life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Romans 5:21-21

21 And what for? Just as sin reigned in death, even so might grace reign through righteousness to everlasting life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Romans 13:8-10

8 Owe no man any thing but to love one another. He that loves another has fulfilled (obeyed) the law. 9 For the Law code says: You must not commit adultery, you must not murder, you must not steal, you must not bear false witness, and you must not covet. If there is any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying; namely, you must love your neighbor as yourself.

Romans 13:9

9 For the Law code says: You must not commit adultery, you must not murder, you must not steal, you must not bear false witness, and you must not covet. If there is any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying; namely, you must love your neighbor as yourself. 10 Love works no ill to his neighbor. Therefore love is the law’s fulfillment.

1 Corinthians 4:7

7 For who made you superior to (different than) another? What do you have that you did not receive? If you did receive it, why do you brag, as if you did not receive it?

1 Corinthians 5:1

1 It is reported that there is sexual immorality among you. This type of fornication is not even found among the people of the nations (who do not know God). There is a man who has his father’s wife.

1 Corinthians 6:2-3

2 Do you not know that the holy ones will judge the world? And if you will judge the world, are you unworthy to judge these small matters? 3 Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more the matters that pertain to this life?

1 Corinthians 6:16

16 What? Do you not know that he who is joined to a prostitute is one (united with her) body? For he said: »Two will be one flesh.«

1 Corinthians 7:1-2

1 Concerning the things that you wrote to me: It is good for a man not to touch (have sex with) a woman. 2 Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.

1 Corinthians 7:2-2

2 Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.

1 Corinthians 7:4

4 The wife has no authority over her own body, but her husband does. Likewise also the husband has no authority over his own body, but his wife does.

1 Corinthians 7:6

6 But I speak this by concession and not by commandment. 7 I prefer that all men were as I am. But every man has his proper gift from God, one after this manner, and another after that. 8 I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, it is good for them if they stay unmarried like me.

1 Corinthians 7:8-9

8 I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, it is good for them if they stay unmarried like me. 9 But if they cannot control themselves, let them marry. It is better to marry than to be inflamed [with lust]. 10 To the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord commands do not let the wife depart from her husband.

1 Corinthians 7:10-13

10 To the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord commands do not let the wife depart from her husband. 11 If she leaves, let her remain unmarried or become reconciled to her husband. A husband should not divorce his wife.

1 Corinthians 7:11-13

11 If she leaves, let her remain unmarried or become reconciled to her husband. A husband should not divorce his wife. 12 To the others, I speak and not the Lord. If any brother has an unbelieving wife and she is willing to live with him he should not divorce her.

1 Corinthians 7:12-13

12 To the others, I speak and not the Lord. If any brother has an unbelieving wife and she is willing to live with him he should not divorce her. 13 And the woman who has an unbelieving husband, and he is willing to live with her, she should not divorce him.

1 Corinthians 7:13-13

13 And the woman who has an unbelieving husband, and he is willing to live with her, she should not divorce him. 14 For the wife sanctifies the unbelieving husband, and the husband sanctifies the unbelieving wife. Otherwise your children would be unclean. But now they are holy.

1 Corinthians 7:14

14 For the wife sanctifies the unbelieving husband, and the husband sanctifies the unbelieving wife. Otherwise your children would be unclean. But now they are holy.

1 Corinthians 7:17

17 But as God has distributed to every person so let him walk. And so I ordain in all the congregations.

1 Corinthians 7:26-28

26 Because of the present distress I think it is good for you to remain as you are. 27 Are you bound to a wife? Do not seek a release. Are you released from a wife? Do not seek a wife. 28 If you marry you have not sinned. If a virgin marries she has not sinned. Those who marry will face many problems in this life and I want to spare you.

1 Corinthians 7:32-35

32 I want you to be free from anxiety. He who is unmarried cares for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please the Lord.

1 Corinthians 7:32-38

32 I want you to be free from anxiety. He who is unmarried cares for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please the Lord. 33 But he who is married cares for the things that are of the world, how he may please his wife.

1 Corinthians 7:33-38

33 But he who is married cares for the things that are of the world, how he may please his wife. 34 There is difference also between a wife and a virgin. The unmarried woman cares for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit. She who is married cares for the things of the world, how she may please her husband.

1 Corinthians 7:34-38

34 There is difference also between a wife and a virgin. The unmarried woman cares for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit. She who is married cares for the things of the world, how she may please her husband. 35 I say this for your benefit and not to restrict you. I show you how to live a noble life of devotion to the Lord without being distracted by other things.

1 Corinthians 7:35

35 I say this for your benefit and not to restrict you. I show you how to live a noble life of devotion to the Lord without being distracted by other things.

1 Corinthians 7:35-38

35 I say this for your benefit and not to restrict you. I show you how to live a noble life of devotion to the Lord without being distracted by other things. 36 If any man thinks he behaves improperly toward his virgin, if she is past her youth, let him do what he will, he does not sin if they get married. 37 Nevertheless he who stands steadfast in his heart, having no necessity, but has power over his own will, and has so decreed in his heart that he will keep his virginity he does well. 38 So then he who gives his virginity in marriage does well; but he who does not get married does even better. 39 The wife is bound to her husband as long as he lives. If her husband dies, she is free to marry whom she wishes, only in the Lord.

1 Corinthians 7:39-40

39 The wife is bound to her husband as long as he lives. If her husband dies, she is free to marry whom she wishes, only in the Lord. 40 But she is happier if she remains as she is. This is my opinion and I think I also have the Spirit of God.

1 Corinthians 14:20

20 Brothers, do not be like children in understanding. When it comes to evil be innocent children but in your thinking be mature adults.

1 Corinthians 9:5

5 Do we have a right to lead a sister as a wife just like other apostles, and as brothers of the Lord, and Cephas?

1 Corinthians 9:15

15 But I have used none of these rights! Neither have I written these things, that it should be done to me. It would be better for me to die, than that any man should make my reason for boasting void.

Galatians 3:10

10 Those who are of the works of the Law are under a curse. For it is written, »Cursed is everyone who does not abide by all things written in the book of the Law, by obeying them.« 11 The fact that the Law justifies no man before God is evident. The righteous will live by faith. 12 The Law is not based on faith. »He that does them will live by them.« 13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us. It is written; »Cursed is everyone who is hung on a stake.«

Galatians 3:24

24 The Law was our schoolmaster (Greek: paedagogue: a combination of schoolmaster, instructor, servant and guardian in charge of us) to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

Philippians 3:12-15

12 Not that I have already obtained, or am already made perfect. But I press on, that I may obtain that for which Christ Jesus also obtained. 13 Brothers, I could not yet have obtained it. But one thing I do, I forget the things that are behind, and stretch forward to the things that are ahead. 14 I press on toward the goal to the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. 15 Let those of us who are mature have this attitude. If you have a different attitude God will show you how to think.

Colossians 3:5

5 Make your members that are upon the earth dead with regard to fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness (greed), which is idolatry.

2 Thessalonians 1:7-10

7 You who are afflicted rest with us at the revelation of the Lord Jesus from heaven with the angels of his power in flaming fire. 8 They will render vengeance to those who do not know God, and to those who do not obey the good news of our Lord Jesus. 9 They will suffer punishment, even eternal destruction from the Lord and from the glory of his might. 10 He will then come to be glorified in his holy ones, and to be marveled at by all those who believed, because our testimony to you was believed.

1 Timothy 4:3

3 They will forbid marrying, [and command] to abstain from food, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.

1 Timothy 5:11-15

11 Refuse younger widows: for when their sexual impulses come between them and Christ, they desire to marry. 12 They have judgment, because they have rejected their first pledge. 13 They also learn to be idle, going about from house to house; and not only idle, but gossipers and busybodies, speaking things that they should not. 14 I desire therefore that the younger widows marry, bear children, rule the household, and give no occasion to the adversary for reviling. 15 Some have already turned aside after Satan.

1 Timothy 6:9-10

9 Those who are determined to be rich fall into a temptation and a snare and many foolish and hurtful lusts. These draw men into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some by longing for it have been led away from the faith. They have pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

1 Timothy 6:12

12 Fight the good fight of the faith! Lay hold on everlasting life! You were called and confessed the good confession in the sight of many witnesses.

1 Timothy 6:17-19

17 Command those who are rich in this present system not to be high-minded (arrogant), not to have their hope set on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy. 18 They should do good works and be rich in good works, that they are ready to distribute, willing to communicate. 19 They store up for them a good foundation for the time to come, that they may lay hold on the life that is life indeed.

1 Timothy 6:19-19

9 Let the brother of humble circumstances glory in his high position (exaltation). 10 But the rich must be glad when God humbles them. This is because they will wither like wildflowers and pass away. 11 The sun rises with scorching heat and withers the grass. The flower falls off and its beauty perishes. So also the rich man will fade away in his pursuits.

Their corrosion will be for a testimony against you, and will eat your flesh like fire. You stored up your treasure in the last days. 4 Behold, the wages of the laborers who harvested your fields, which are held back by you, cry out: and the cries of them that reaped have entered into the ears of Jehovah of Hosts.

Death and the grave delivered up the dead in them. Every man was judged according to his works. 14 Death and the grave were hurled into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15 Whoever was not found written in the book of life was hurled (thrust) (thrown) into the lake of fire.

20 We know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding. We know him that is true for we are in him who is true, [and] in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and everlasting life.

3 John 1:7

7 For the sake of the Name they went out, taking nothing from the people of the nations.
