¹ It happened after the death of Joshua, the children of Israel asked of the LORD, saying, "Who should go up first to fight for us against the Canaanites?"

³⁰ You are to put in the breastplate for judging the Urim and the Thummim; and they are to be over Aaronʼs heart, when he goes in before the LORD. And Aaron will carry the means to make decisions for the children of Israel over his heart before the LORD continually.

¹⁸ The children of Israel arose, and went up to Bethel, and asked counsel of God; and they said, "Who shall go up for us first to battle against the people of Benjamin?" The LORD said, "Judah will go up first."

⁹ David knew that Saul was devising mischief against him; and he said to Abiathar the priest, "Bring the ephod here." ¹⁰ Then David said, "LORD, God of Israel, your servant has surely heard that Saul seeks to come to Keilah, to destroy the city for my sake.
