¹ Let not many of you be teachers, my brothers, knowing that we will receive heavier judgment. ² For in many things we all stumble. If anyone does not stumble in word, this one is a perfect person, able to bridle the whole body also. ³ Now if we put bits into the horses' mouths so that they may obey us, we guide their whole body. ⁴ And look at the ships also, though they are so big and are driven by fierce winds, are yet guided by a very small rudder, wherever the pilot desires. ⁵ So the tongue is also a little member, and boasts great things. See how a small fire can spread to a large forest. ⁶ And the tongue is a fire. The world of iniquity among our members is the tongue, which defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature, and is set on fire by hell. ⁷ For all kinds of animals, and birds, of reptiles and sea creatures, are being tamed and have been tamed by humankind. ⁸ But nobody can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. ⁹ With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people, who are made in the image of God. ¹⁰ Out of the same mouth comes forth blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so. ¹¹ Does a spring send out from the same opening fresh and bitter water? ¹² Can a fig tree, my brothers, yield olives, or a vine figs? Nor is salt water able to produce sweet. ¹³ Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by his good conduct that his deeds are done in gentleness of wisdom. ¹⁴ But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, do not boast and do not lie against the truth. ¹⁵ This wisdom is not that which comes down from above, but is earthly, sensual, and demonic. ¹⁶ For where jealousy and selfish ambition are, there is confusion and every evil deed. ¹⁷ But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceful, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, without hypocrisy. ¹⁸ Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.

³ Then Moses said to Aaron, "This is what the LORD spoke of, saying, 'I will show myself holy to those who come near me, and before all the people I will be glorified.'" Aaron held his peace.

¹⁷ "Son of man, I have made you a watchman to the house of Israel: therefore hear the word from my mouth, and give them warning from me. ¹⁸ When I tell the wicked, 'You shall surely die'; and you give him no warning, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at your hand.

⁷ "So you, son of man, I have set you a watchman to the house of Israel; therefore hear the word at my mouth, and give them warning from me. ⁸ When I tell the wicked, 'O wicked man, you shall surely die,' and you do not speak to warn the wicked from his way; that wicked man shall die in his iniquity, but his blood will I require at your hand. ⁹ Nevertheless, if you warn the wicked of his way to turn from it, and he doesn't turn from his way; he shall die in his iniquity, but you have delivered your soul.

¹² The LORD will cut off, to the man who does this, him who wakes and him who answers, out of the tents of Jacob, and him who offers an offering to the LORD of hosts.

¹ "Do not judge, so that you won't be judged. ² For with whatever judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with whatever measure you measure, it will be measured to you.

¹¹ And when the Pharisees saw it, they said to his disciples, "Why does your Teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?"

²⁴ "A disciple is not above the teacher, nor a servant above his lord.

⁸ But you are not to be called 'Rabbi,' for one is your Teacher, and all of you are brothers. ⁹ Call no man on the earth your father, for one is your Father, he who is in heaven. ¹⁰ Neither be called masters, for one is your master, the Christ.

¹³ "But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites. For you devour the houses of widows, and for show make long prayers. Therefore you will receive greater condemnation.

³⁷ Do not judge, and you won't be judged. Do not condemn, and you won't be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.

⁴⁷ That servant, who knew his lord's will, and did not prepare, nor do what he wanted, will be beaten with many stripes, ⁴⁸ but he who did not know, and did things worthy of stripes, will be beaten with few stripes. To whomever much is given, of him will much be required; and to whom much was entrusted, of him more will be asked.

² He called him, and said to him, 'What is this that I hear about you? Give an accounting of your management, for you can no longer be manager.'

¹⁰ Jesus answered him, "Are you the teacher of Israel, and do not understand these things?

¹ Now in the church that was at Antioch there were some prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen the foster brother of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.

²⁶ Therefore I testify to you today that I am innocent of everyone's blood, ²⁷ for I did not hold back from declaring to you the whole plan of God.

²⁰ a corrector of the foolish, a teacher of children, having in the law the embodiment of knowledge and truth. ²¹ You therefore who teach another, do you not teach yourself? You who preach against stealing, do you steal?

² Here, moreover, it is required of stewards, that they be found faithful. ³ But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged by you, or by man's judgment. Yes, I do not judge my own self. ⁴ For I know nothing against myself. Yet I am not justified by this, but he who judges me is the Lord. ⁵ Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and reveal the counsels of the hearts. Then each one will get his praise from God.

²⁹ For he who eats and drinks eats and drinks judgment to himself, if he does not discern the body. ³⁰ For this cause many among you are weak and sickly, and not a few sleep. ³¹ For if we discerned ourselves, we would not be judged. ³² But when we are judged, we are punished by the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world.

²⁸ God has set some in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracle workers, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, and various kinds of tongues.

¹⁰ For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that each one may receive the things in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.

¹¹ He gave some to be apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;

⁷ desiring to be teachers of the law, though they understand neither what they say, nor about what they strongly affirm.

⁷ to which I was appointed a proclaimer and an apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying), a teacher of the non-Jews in faith and truth.

¹¹ For this, I was appointed a preacher, an apostle, and a teacher.

¹⁷ Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they watch on behalf of your souls, as those who will give account, that they may do this with joy, and not with groaning, for that would be unprofitable for you.

²² But the Scriptures imprisoned all things under sin, that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.

⁹ Do not be like the horse, or like the mule, which have no understanding, who are controlled by bit and bridle, or else they will not come near to you.

⁴ But the LORD sent out a great wind on the sea, and there was a mighty storm on the sea, so that the ship was likely to break up.

²⁴ And look, a violent storm came up on the sea, so much that the boat was covered with the waves, but he was asleep.

¹⁴ But before long, a stormy wind beat down from shore, which is called Euraquilo. ¹⁵ When the ship was caught, and could not face the wind, we gave way to it, and were driven along. ¹⁶ Running under the lee of a small island called Cauda, we were able, with difficulty, to secure the boat. ¹⁷ After they had hoisted it up, they used cables to help reinforce the ship. Fearing that they would run aground on the Syrtis, they lowered the sea anchor, and so were driven along. ¹⁸ As we labored exceedingly with the storm, the next day they began to throw things overboard. ¹⁹ On the third day, they threw out the ship's tackle with their own hands. ²⁰ When neither sun nor stars shone on us for many days, and no small storm pressed on us, all hope that we would be saved was now taken away. ²¹ When they had been long without food, Paul stood up in the middle of them, and said, "Sirs, you should have listened to me, and not have set sail from Crete, and have gotten this injury and loss. ²² Now I exhort you to cheer up, for there will be no loss of life among you, but only of the ship. ²³ For there stood by me this night an angel, belonging to the God whose I am and whom I serve, ²⁴ saying, 'Do not be afraid, Paul. You must stand before Caesar. And look, God has granted you all those who sail with you.' ²⁵ Therefore, sirs, cheer up. For I believe God, that it will be just as it has been spoken to me. ²⁶ But we must run aground on a certain island." ²⁷ But when the fourteenth night had come, as we were driven back and forth in the Adriatic Sea, about midnight the sailors surmised that they were drawing near to some land. ²⁸ They took soundings, and found twenty fathoms. After a little while, they took soundings again, and found fifteen fathoms. ²⁹ Fearing that we would run aground on rocky ground, they let go four anchors from the stern, and wished for daylight. ³⁰ As the sailors were trying to flee out of the ship, and had lowered the boat into the sea, pretending that they would lay out anchors from the bow, ³¹ Paul said to the centurion and to the soldiers, "Unless these stay in the ship, you cannot be saved." ³² Then the soldiers cut away the ropes of the boat, and let it fall off. ³³ While the day was coming on, Paul urged them all to take some food, saying, "This day is the fourteenth day that you wait and continue fasting, having taken nothing. ³⁴ Therefore I urge you to take some food, for this is for your preservation; for not a hair will perish from any of your heads." ³⁵ When he had said this, and had taken bread, he gave thanks to God in the presence of all, and he broke it, and began to eat. ³⁶ Then they all cheered up, and they also took food. ³⁷ In all, we were two hundred seventy-six souls on the ship. ³⁸ When they had eaten enough, they lightened the ship, throwing out the wheat into the sea.

² Pharaoh said, "Who is the LORD, that I should listen to his voice to let Israel go? I do not know the LORD, and moreover I will not let Israel go."

⁹ The enemy said, 'I will pursue. I will overtake. I will divide the spoil. My desire shall be satisfied on them. I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them.'

²² Whom have you defied and blasphemed? Against whom have you exalted your voice and lifted up your eyes on high? Against the Holy One of Israel. ²³ By your messengers you have defied the LORD, and have said, 'With the multitude of my chariots, I have come up to the height of the mountains, to the innermost parts of Lebanon; and I will cut down its tall cedars, and its choice fir trees; and I will enter into his farthest lodging place, the forest of his fruitful field. ²⁴ I have dug and drunk strange waters, and with the sole of my feet will I dry up all the rivers of Egypt.'

¹⁴ They tell God, 'Depart from us, for we do not want to know about your ways. ¹⁵ What is Shaddai, that we should serve him? What profit should we have, if we pray to him?'

¹⁷ who said to God, 'Depart from us;' and, 'What can Shaddai do for us?'

³ For the wicked boasts of his heart's cravings, and he blesses the greedy, scorning the LORD.

² Everyone lies to his neighbor. They speak with flattering lips, and with a double heart. ³ May the LORD cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that boasts, ⁴ who have said, "With our tongue we will prevail. Our lips are our own. Who is lord over us?"

¹⁰ They close up their callous hearts. With their mouth they speak proudly.

¹ [For the Chief Musician. A contemplation by David, when Doeg the Edomite came and told Saul, "David has come to Abimelech's house."] Why do you boast of mischief, mighty man? God's loving kindness endures continually. ² Your tongue plots destruction, like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.

⁸ They scoff and speak with malice. In arrogance, they threaten oppression. ⁹ They have set their mouth in the heavens. Their tongue walks through the earth.

¹⁸ There is one who speaks rashly like the piercing of a sword, but the tongue of the wise heals.

² The tongue of the wise commends knowledge, but the mouth of fools gush out folly.

²¹ Death and life are in the power of the tongue; those who love it will eat its fruit.

³ "They bend their tongue as a bow. Falsehood and not truth has grown strong in the land; for they proceed from evil to evil, and they do not know me," says the LORD. ⁴ "Everyone be on guard against his neighbor, and do not trust any brother; for every brother is a deceiver, and every neighbor will go about with slanders. ⁵ Everyone deceives his neighbor, and does not speak the truth. They have taught their tongue to speak lies; they do evil, they do not cease so as to return. ⁶ Oppression upon oppression, and deceit upon deceit. They refuse to know me," says the LORD. ⁷ Therefore thus says the LORD of hosts, "Look, I will melt them, and try them; for how should I deal with the wickedness of the daughter of my people? ⁸ Their tongue is a deadly arrow; it speaks deceit: one speaks peaceably to his neighbor with his mouth, but in his heart he lies in wait for him.

¹⁸ Then they said, "Come, and let us make plans against Jeremiah; for the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, and let us strike him with the tongue, and let us not give heed to any of his words."

² "Son of man, tell the prince of Tyre, 'Thus says the Lord GOD: "Because your heart is lifted up, and you have said, 'I am a god, I sit in the seat of God, in the midst of the seas'; yet you are man, and not God, though you set your heart as the heart of God—

³ Speak and say, 'Thus says the Lord GOD: "Look, I am against you, Pharaoh king of Egypt, the great monster that lies in the midst of his rivers, that has said, 'My river is my own, and I have made it for myself.'

¹⁵ Now if you are ready whenever you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe, and all kinds of music to fall down and worship the image which I have made, well: but if you do not worship, you shall be cast the same hour into the midst of a burning fiery furnace; and who is that god that shall deliver you out of my hands?"

³⁰ The king spoke and said, "Is not this great Babylon, which I have built for the royal dwelling place, by the might of my power and for the glory of my majesty?"

¹⁸ For, uttering great swelling words of emptiness, they entice in the lusts of the flesh, by licentiousness, those who actually escape from those who live in error;

¹⁶ These are murmurers and complainers, walking after their lusts (and their mouth speaks proud things), showing respect of persons to gain advantage.

⁵ A mouth was given to him speaking proud words and blasphemies. There was given to him authority to act for forty-two months. ⁶ He opened his mouth for blasphemies against God, to blaspheme his name, and his dwelling, those who dwell in heaven.

¹⁵ She said to him, "How can you say, 'I love you,' when your heart is not with me? You have mocked me these three times, and have not told me where your great strength lies." ¹⁶ It happened, when she pressed him daily with her words, and urged him, that his soul was troubled to death. ¹⁷ He told her all his heart, and said to her, "No razor has ever come on my head; for I have been a Nazirite to God from my mother's womb. If I am shaved, then my strength will go from me, and I will become weak, and be like any other man." ¹⁸ When Delilah saw that he had told her all his heart, she sent and called for the lords of the Philistines, saying, "Come up this once, for he has told me all his heart." Then the lords of the Philistines went up to her, and brought the money in their hands. ¹⁹ She made him sleep on her knees; and she called for a man, and shaved off the seven locks of his head; and he began to weaken, and his strength went from him. ²⁰ She said, "The Philistines are upon you, Samson." He awoke out of his sleep, and said, "I will go out as at other times, and shake myself free." But he didn't know that the LORD had departed from him.

⁹ Then Doeg the Edomite, who stood by the servants of Saul, answered and said, "I saw the son of Jesse coming to Nob, to Ahimelech the son of Ahitub. ¹⁰ He inquired of God for him, gave him food, and gave him the sword of Goliath the Philistine." ¹¹ Then the king sent to call Ahimelech the priest, the son of Ahitub, and all his father's house, the priests who were in Nob: and they came all of them to the king. ¹² Saul said, "Hear now, you son of Ahitub." He answered, "Here I am, my lord." ¹³ Saul said to him, "Why have you conspired against me, you and the son of Jesse, in that you have given him bread, and a sword, and have inquired of God for him, that he should rise against me, to lie in wait, as at this day?" ¹⁴ Then Ahimelech answered the king, and said, "Who among all your servants is so faithful as David, who is the king's son-in-law, and a commander over your bodyguard, and honored in your house? ¹⁵ Have I today begun to inquire of God for him? Be it far from me. Do not let the king impute anything to his servant, nor to all the house of my father; for your servant knows nothing of all this, less or more." ¹⁶ The king said, "You shall surely die, Ahimelech, you, and all your father's house." ¹⁷ The king said to the guard who stood about him, "Turn, and kill the priests of the LORD; because their hand also is with David, and because they knew that he fled, and did not disclose it to me." But the servants of the king wouldn't put forth their hand to fall on the priests of the LORD.

²⁶ Then Absalom said, "If not, please let my brother Amnon go with us." The king said to him, "Why should he go with you?" ²⁷ But Absalom pleaded with him, and he let Amnon and all the king's sons go with him. And Absalom prepared a feast like a king's feast. ²⁸ And Absalom commanded his servants, saying, "Mark now, when Amnon's heart is merry with wine; and when I tell you, 'Strike Amnon,' then kill him. Do not be afraid. Haven't I commanded you? Be courageous, and be valiant." ²⁹ The servants of Absalom did to Amnon as Absalom had commanded. Then all the king's sons arose, and every man got up on his mule, and fled.

² And Absalom rose up early, and stood beside the road of the gate. Then when anyone had a dispute which should come to the king for judgment, then Absalom would call to him and say, "What city are you from?" When he said, "Your servant is of one of the tribes of Israel," ³ then Absalom would say to him, "Look, your matters are good and right; but there is no one from the king to hear you." ⁴ And Absalom would say, "Oh that I were made judge in the land, then anyone who had a dispute and a judgment could come to me, and I would give him justice." ⁵ It was so, that when any man came near to do him obeisance, he would extend his hand and embrace him, and kiss him. ⁶ Absalom did this sort of thing to all Israel who came to the king for judgment. So Absalom stole the hearts of the men of Israel.

²⁰ Then Absalom said to Ahithophel, "Give your counsel what we shall do."

⁴³ The men of Israel answered the men of Judah, and said, "We have ten parts in the king, and we are the firstborn rather than you. Why then did you despise us, that our advice should not be first had in bringing back our king?" The words of the men of Judah were fiercer than the words of the men of Israel.

⁵ But Jezebel his wife came to him, and said to him, "Why is your spirit so sad, that you eat no bread?" ⁶ He said to her, "Because I spoke to Naboth the Jezreelite, and said to him, 'Give me your vineyard for money; or else, if it pleases you, I will give you another vineyard for it.' He answered, 'I will not give you my vineyard.'" ⁷ Jezebel his wife said to him, "Do you now govern the kingdom of Israel? Arise, and eat bread, and let your heart be merry. I will give you the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite." ⁸ So she wrote letters in Ahab's name, and sealed them with his seal, and sent the letters to the elders and to the nobles who were in his city, who lived with Naboth. ⁹ She wrote in the letters, saying, "Proclaim a fast, and set Naboth on high among the people. ¹⁰ Set two men, base fellows, before him, and let them testify against him, saying, 'You cursed God and the king.' Then carry him out, and stone him to death." ¹¹ The men of his city, even the elders and the nobles who lived in his city, did as Jezebel had sent to them, according as it was written in the letters which she had sent to them. ¹² They proclaimed a fast, and set Naboth on high among the people. ¹³ The two men, the base fellows, came in and sat before him. The base fellows testified against him, even against Naboth, in the presence of the people, saying, "Naboth cursed God and the king." Then they carried him out of the city, and stoned him to death with stones. ¹⁴ Then they sent to Jezebel, saying, "Naboth has been stoned, and is dead." ¹⁵ It happened, when Jezebel heard that Naboth was stoned, and was dead, that Jezebel said to Ahab, "Arise, take possession of the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, which he refused to give you for money; for Naboth is not alive, but dead."

¹³ The king answered them roughly; and king Rehoboam forsook the counsel of the old men, ¹⁴ and spoke to them after the counsel of the young men, saying, "My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to it. My father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions." ¹⁵ So the king did not listen to the people; for it was brought about of God, that the LORD might establish his word, which he spoke by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat. ¹⁶ When all Israel saw that the king did not listen to them, the people answered the king, saying, "What portion have we in David? Neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse. Every man to your tents, Israel. Now see to your own house, David." So all Israel departed to their tents.

¹⁷ Abijah and his people killed them with a great slaughter: so there fell down slain of Israel five hundred thousand chosen men.

³ who sharpen their tongue like a sword, and aim their arrows, deadly words,

² Deliver my soul, LORD, from lying lips, from a deceitful tongue. ³ What will be given to you, and what will be done more to you, you deceitful tongue?

³ They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent. Viper's poison is under their lips. Selah.

¹⁰ My son, if sinners entice you, do not consent. ¹¹ If they say, "Come with us, Let's lie in wait for blood; let's lurk secretly for the innocent without cause; ¹² let's swallow them up alive like Sheol, and whole, like those who go down into the pit. ¹³ We'll find all valuable wealth. We'll fill our houses with spoil. ¹⁴ Throw in your lot with us. We'll all have one purse."

¹⁹ a false witness who utters lies, and he who sows discord among brothers.

⁵ that they may keep you from the strange woman, from the foreigner who flatters with her words.

²¹ With persuasive words, she led him astray. With the flattering of her lips, she seduced him. ²² He followed her immediately, as an ox goes to the slaughter, as a stag leaping into a trap, ²³ till an arrow strikes through his liver, as a bird hurries to the snare, and doesn't know that it will cost his life.

¹ A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.

²⁷ A worthless man devises mischief. His speech is like a scorching fire.

²⁰ Without wood a fire goes out. Without gossip, contention ceases. ²¹ As coals are to hot embers, and wood to fire, so is a contentious man to kindling strife.

²⁷ Look, the name of the LORD comes from far away, burning with his anger, and in thick rising smoke. His lips are full of indignation, and his tongue is as a devouring fire.

¹⁰ For I have heard the defaming of many, terror on every side. "Denounce, and we will denounce him," say all my familiar friends, those who watch for my fall; "perhaps he will be persuaded, and we shall prevail against him, and we shall take our revenge on him."

¹⁶ Therefore thus says the LORD, 'Look, I will send you away from off the surface of the earth: this year you shall die, because you have spoken rebellion against the LORD.'"

²² But I tell you, that everyone who is angry with his brother without a cause will be liable to judgment; and whoever will say to his brother, 'Raqa,' will be in danger of the council; and whoever will say, 'You fool,' will be in danger of the fire of hell.

²⁴ But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, "This man does not cast out demons, except by Beelzebul, the prince of the demons."

³² And whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, neither in this age, nor in that which is to come. ³³ "Either make the tree good, and its fruit good, or make the tree corrupt, and its fruit corrupt; for the tree is known by its fruit. ³⁴ You offspring of vipers, how can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. ³⁵ The good person out of his good treasure brings out good things, and the evil person out of his evil treasure brings out evil things. ³⁶ But I tell you that every careless word that people speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment.

¹¹ That which enters into the mouth does not defile the person; but that which proceeds out of the mouth, this defiles the person." ¹² Then the disciples came, and said to him, "Do you know that the Pharisees were offended, when they heard this saying?" ¹³ But he answered, "Every plant which my heavenly Father did not plant will be uprooted. ¹⁴ Leave them alone. They are blind guides of the blind. If the blind guide the blind, both will fall into a pit." ¹⁵ And answering, Peter said to him, "Explain this parable to us." ¹⁶ So he said, "Do you also still not understand? ¹⁷ Do you not understand that whatever goes into the mouth passes into the belly, and then out of the body? ¹⁸ But the things which proceed out of the mouth come out of the heart, and they defile the person. ¹⁹ For out of the heart come forth evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, sexual sins, thefts, false testimony, and blasphemies. ²⁰ These are the things which defile the person; but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile the person."

¹⁵ There is nothing from outside of the person, that going into him can defile him; but the things which proceed out of the person are what defile the person."

²⁰ He said, "That which proceeds out of the man, that defiles the man. ²¹ For from within, out of a person's heart, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, sexual sins, murders, thefts, ²² covetings, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, and foolishness.

⁵⁵ Now the chief priests and the whole council sought witnesses against Jesus to put him to death, and found none. ⁵⁶ For many gave false testimony against him, and their testimony did not agree with each other. ⁵⁷ Some stood up, and gave false testimony against him, saying,

²⁴ He called out and said, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue. For I am in anguish in this flame.'

³ But Peter said, "Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit, and to keep back part of the price of the land?

¹³ and set up false witnesses who said, "This man never stops speaking blasphemous words against this holy place and the Law.

³⁰ Men will arise from among your own selves, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after them.

¹³ "Their throat is an open tomb. With their tongues they have used deceit." "Viper's poison is under their lips;" ¹⁴ "Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness."

¹⁷ Now I appeal to you, brothers, look out for those who are causing the divisions and occasions of stumbling, contrary to the doctrine which you learned, and turn away from them. ¹⁸ For those who are such do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own belly; and by their smooth and flattering speech, they deceive the hearts of the innocent.

¹³ For such people are false apostles, deceitful workers, masquerading as Christ's apostles. ¹⁴ And no wonder, for even Satan masquerades as an angel of light. ¹⁵ It is no great thing therefore if his servants also masquerade as servants of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works.

³ But sexual immorality, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not even be mentioned among you, as becomes saints; ⁴ nor filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not appropriate; but rather giving of thanks.

⁸ but now you also put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and shameful speaking out of your mouth. ⁹ Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices,

⁹ even he whose coming is according to the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, ¹⁰ and with all deception of wickedness for those who are perishing, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. ¹¹ And because of this, God sends them a strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, ¹² in order that all might be judged who did not believe the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

¹¹ whose mouths must be silenced; who are upsetting whole families, teaching things which they should not, for the sake of dishonest gain.

⁷ Do not they blaspheme the honorable name by which you are called?

¹ But false prophets also arose among the people, as false teachers will also be among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, denying even the Master who bought them, bringing on themselves swift destruction. ² Many will follow their immoral ways, and as a result, the way of the truth will be maligned.

³ knowing this first, that in the last days scoffers will come, mocking and walking after their own lusts,

¹⁰ Therefore, if I come, I will call attention to his deeds which he does, unjustly accusing us with wicked words. Not content with this, neither does he himself receive the brothers, and those who would, he forbids and throws out of the church.

⁸ Yet in like manner these also in their dreaming defile the flesh, despise authority, and blaspheme the glories. ⁹ But Michael, the archangel, when contending with the devil and arguing about the body of Moses, dared not bring against him an abusive condemnation, but said, "May the Lord rebuke you." ¹⁰ But these speak evil of whatever things they do not know. What they understand naturally, like the creatures without reason, they are destroyed in these things.

¹⁵ to execute judgment on all, and to convict every person of all their works of ungodliness which they have done in an ungodly way, and of all the hard things which ungodly sinners have spoken against him." ¹⁶ These are murmurers and complainers, walking after their lusts (and their mouth speaks proud things), showing respect of persons to gain advantage. ¹⁷ But you, beloved, remember the words which have been spoken before by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ. ¹⁸ They said to you that "In the end time there will be mockers, walking after their own ungodly lusts."

¹⁴ But I have a few things against you, because you have there some who hold the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to throw a stumbling block before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit sexual immorality. ¹⁵ So you also have some who hold to the teaching of the Nicolaitans likewise.

⁹ The great serpent was thrown down, the ancient serpent, he who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world. He was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.

¹ And I saw a beast coming up out of the sea, having ten horns and seven heads. On his horns were ten crowns, and on his heads, blasphemous names. ² The beast which I saw was like a leopard, and his feet were like those of a bear, and his mouth like the mouth of a lion. The serpent gave him his power, his throne, and great authority. ³ One of his heads looked like it had been wounded fatally. His fatal wound was healed, and the whole earth was amazed and followed the beast. ⁴ They worshiped the serpent, because he gave his authority to the beast, and they worshiped the beast, saying, "Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with him?" ⁵ A mouth was given to him speaking proud words and blasphemies. There was given to him authority to act for forty-two months.

¹⁴ He deceives those who dwell on the earth because of the signs he was granted to do in front of the beast; saying to those who dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast who had been wounded by the sword and yet lived.

²³ The light of a lamp will shine no more at all in you. The voice of the bridegroom and of the bride will be heard no more at all in you; for your merchants were the princes of the earth; for with your sorcery all the nations were deceived.

²⁰ The beast was taken, and with him the false prophet who worked the signs in his sight, with which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image. These two were thrown alive into the lake of fire that burns with sulfur.

⁴ For he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been torn apart by him, and the fetters broken in pieces. No one had the strength to tame him.

³³ Their wine is the poison of serpents, The cruel venom of asps.

²¹ His mouth was smooth as butter, but his heart was war. His words were softer than oil, yet they were drawn swords.

⁴ My soul is among lions. I lie among those who are set on fire, even the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword.

⁴ Their poison is like the poison of a serpent; like a deaf viper that stops its ear,

⁷ Look, they spew with their mouth. Swords are in their lips, "For," they say, "who hears us?"

³ who sharpen their tongue like a sword, and aim their arrows, deadly words, ⁴ to shoot innocent men from ambushes. They shoot at him suddenly and fearlessly.

¹¹ If the serpent bites before it is charmed, then is there no profit for the charmer's tongue.

¹³ "Their throat is an open tomb. With their tongues they have used deceit." "Viper's poison is under their lips;"

⁶ And the tongue is a fire. The world of iniquity among our members is the tongue, which defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature, and is set on fire by hell.

²⁶ And God said, "Let us make humankind in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the flying creatures of the sky, and over the tame animals, and over all the wild animals of the earth, and over every creature that crawls on the earth." And it was so. ²⁷ And God created humankind in his own image. In God's image he created him; male and female he created them.

¹ This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created humankind, he made him in God's likeness.

⁶ Whoever takes a human life, by a human will his life be taken, for God made humankind in his own image.

²⁷ They went out into the field, and gathered their vineyards, and trod the grapes, and held festival, and went into the house of their god, and did eat and drink, and cursed Abimelech.

⁵ When king David came to Bahurim, look, a man of the family of the house of Saul came out, whose name was Shimei, the son of Gera. He came out, and cursed still as he came.

²¹ But Abishai the son of Zeruiah answered, "Shall Shimei not be put to death for this, because he cursed the LORD's anointed?"

¹⁰ Therefore David blessed the LORD before all the assembly; and David said, "You are blessed, LORD, the God of Israel our father, forever and ever.

²⁰ David said to all the assembly, "Now bless the LORD your God." All the assembly blessed the LORD, the God of their fathers, and bowed down their heads and prostrated themselves before the LORD and the king.

⁷ His mouth is full of cursing and bitterness and oppression. Under his tongue is mischief and iniquity.

⁹ Therefore my heart is glad, and my tongue rejoices. My body shall also dwell in safety.

¹² To the end that my heart may sing praise to you, and not be silent. LORD my God, I will give thanks to you forever.

¹ [By David; when he pretended to be insane before Abimelech, who drove him away, and he departed.] I will bless the LORD at all times. His praise will always be in my mouth.

²⁸ My tongue shall talk about your righteousness and about your praise all day long.

¹⁴ Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, the God of my salvation. My tongue shall sing aloud of your righteousness.

⁸ Wake up, my glory. Wake up, psaltery and harp. I will wake up the dawn.

¹² For the sin of their mouth, and the words of their lips, let them be caught in their pride, for the curses and lies which they utter.

⁴ They fully intend to throw him down from his lofty place. They delight in lies. They bless with their mouth, but they curse inwardly. Selah.

⁴ So I will bless you while I live. I will lift up my hands in your name.

²⁴ My tongue will also talk about your righteousness all day long, for they are disappointed, and they are confounded, who want to harm me.

¹ [A Song. A Psalm by David.] My heart is steadfast, God. I will sing and I will make music with my soul.

¹⁷ Yes, he loved cursing, and it came to him. He did not delight in blessing, and it was far from him. ¹⁸ He clothed himself also with cursing as with his garment. It came into his inward parts like water, like oil into his bones.

²¹ My mouth will speak the praise of the LORD. Let all flesh bless his holy name forever and ever.

²² for often your own heart knows that you yourself have likewise cursed others.

¹³ And the Lord said, "Because these people draw near with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but they have removed their heart far from me. And in vain do they worship me, teaching instructions that are the commandments of humans.

⁴⁴ But I tell you, love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you,

⁷⁴ Then he began to curse and to swear, "I do not know the man." Immediately the rooster crowed.

²⁶ Therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced, and moreover my flesh also will dwell in hope;

¹⁴ "Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness."

⁷ For a man indeed ought not to have his head covered, because he is the image and glory of God, but the woman is the glory of the man.

³ Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ;

⁴ Do not trust in lying words, saying, "The LORD's temple, The LORD's temple, The LORD's temple, are these." ⁵ For if you thoroughly amend your ways and your doings; if you thoroughly execute justice between a man and his neighbor; ⁶ if you do not oppress the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow, and do not shed innocent blood in this place, neither walk after other gods to your own hurt: ⁷ then will I cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers, from of old even forevermore. ⁸ Look, you trust in lying words, that can't profit. ⁹ Will you steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense to Baal, and walk after other gods that you have not known, ¹⁰ and come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say, "We are delivered"; that you may do all these abominations?

¹¹ Her leaders judge for bribes, and her priests teach for a price, and her prophets of it tell fortunes for money: yet they lean on the LORD, and say, "Isn't the LORD in the midst of us? No disaster will come on us."

¹⁴ Bless those who persecute you; bless, and do not curse.

³ for you are still fleshly. For insofar as there is jealousy and strife among you, are you not fleshly, and living by human standards?

¹³ Besides, they also learn to be idle, going about from house to house. Not only idle, but also gossips and busybodies, saying things which they ought not.

⁹ not rendering evil for evil, or reviling for reviling; but instead blessing; because to this were you called, that you may inherit a blessing.

²³ When they came to Marah, they couldn't drink from the waters of Marah, for they were bitter. Therefore its name was called Marah. ²⁴ The people murmured against Moses, saying, "What shall we drink?" ²⁵ Then he cried to the LORD. The LORD showed him a tree, and he threw it into the waters, and the waters were made sweet. There he made a statute and an ordinance for them, and there he tested them;

¹⁹ The men of the city said to Elisha, "Look, please, the situation of this city is pleasant, as my lord sees; but the water is bad, and the land miscarries." ²⁰ He said, "Bring me a new jar, and put salt in it." They brought it to him. ²¹ He went out to the spring of the waters, and threw salt into it, and said, "Thus says the LORD, 'I have healed these waters. There shall not be from there any more death or miscarrying.'" ²² So the waters were healed to this day, according to the word of Elisha which he spoke.

² He dug it up, gathered out its stones, planted it with the choicest vine, built a tower in its midst, and also cut out a winepress in it. He looked for it to yield grapes, but it yielded wild grapes. ³ "Now, inhabitants of Jerusalem and men of Judah, please judge between me and my vineyard. ⁴ What could have been done more to my vineyard, that I have not done in it? Why, when I looked for it to yield grapes, did it yield wild grapes?

²¹ Yet I had planted you a noble vine, wholly a right seed. How then have you turned into the degenerate branches of a foreign vine to me?

⁸ Then he said to me, "These waters issue forth toward the eastern region, and shall go down into the Arabah; and they shall go toward the sea; into the sea shall the waters go which were made to issue forth; and the waters shall be healed. ⁹ It shall happen, that every living creature which swarms, in every place where the river goes, shall live; and there shall be a very great multitude of fish; for these waters have come there, and the waters of the sea shall be healed, and everything shall live wherever the river comes. ¹⁰ It shall happen, that fishermen shall stand by it: from En Gedi even to En Eglaim shall be a place for the spreading of nets; their fish shall be after their kinds, as the fish of the Great Sea, exceeding many. ¹¹ But the miry places of it, and its marshes, shall not be healed; they shall be given up to salt.

¹⁶ By their fruits you will know them. Do you gather grapes from thorns, or figs from thistles? ¹⁷ Even so, every good tree produces good fruit; but the corrupt tree produces evil fruit. ¹⁸ A good tree cannot produce evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree produce good fruit. ¹⁹ Every tree that does not grow good fruit is cut down, and thrown into the fire. ²⁰ Therefore, by their fruits you will know them.

³³ "Either make the tree good, and its fruit good, or make the tree corrupt, and its fruit corrupt; for the tree is known by its fruit.

⁴³ For there is no good tree that brings forth rotten fruit; nor again a rotten tree that brings forth good fruit. ⁴⁴ For each tree is known by its own fruit. For people do not gather figs from thorns, nor do they gather grapes from a bramble bush.

¹⁶ If the first fruit is holy, so is the lump. If the root is holy, so are the branches. ¹⁷ But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive, were grafted in among them, and became partaker with them of the rich root of the olive tree; ¹⁸ do not boast over the branches. But if you boast, it is not you who support the root, but the root supports you.

³ Now the man Moses was very humble, above all the men who were on the surface of the earth.

¹² Hiram continued, "Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, that made heaven and earth, who has given to David the king a wise son, endowed with discretion and understanding, that should build a house for the LORD, and a house for his kingdom. ¹³ Now I have sent a skillful man, endowed with understanding, Hiram Abi,

²⁸ To man he said, 'Look, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom. To depart from evil is understanding.'"

⁹ He will guide the humble in justice. He will teach the humble his way.

⁴ In your majesty ride on victoriously on behalf of truth, humility, and righteousness. Let your right hand display awesome deeds.

⁴³ Whoever is wise will pay attention to these things. They will consider the loving kindnesses of the LORD.

⁴ For the LORD takes pleasure in his people. He crowns the humble with salvation.

¹ Who is like the wise man? And who knows the interpretation of a thing? A man's wisdom makes his face shine, and the hardness of his face is changed.

⁵ Whoever keeps the commandment shall not come to harm, and his wise heart will know the time and procedure.

³ His delight will be in the fear of the LORD. He will not judge by the sight of his eyes, neither decide by the hearing of his ears; ⁴ but with righteousness he will judge the poor, and decide with equity for the humble of the earth. He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth; and with the breath of his lips he will kill the wicked.

¹⁹ The humble also will increase their joy in the LORD, and the poor among humankind will rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.

⁶ The multitude of camels shall cover you, the dromedaries of Midian and Ephah; all they from Sheba shall come; they shall bring gold and frankincense, and shall proclaim the praises of the LORD.

¹ The Spirit of the LORD is upon me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and an opening of the eyes to the blind;

¹² "Who is the wise man, that may understand this? Who is he to whom the mouth of the LORD has spoken, that he may declare it? Why is the land perished and burned up like a wilderness, so that none passes through?"

²³ Thus says the LORD, "Do not let the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, do not let the rich man glory in his riches;

²¹ He changes the times and the seasons; he removes kings, and sets up kings; he gives wisdom to the wise, and knowledge to those who have understanding;

³ Seek the LORD, all you humble of the land, who have kept his ordinances. Seek righteousness. Seek humility. It may be that you will be hidden in the day of the LORD's anger.

⁵ Blessed are the gentle, for they will inherit the earth.

²⁴ "Everyone therefore who hears these words of mine, and does them, will be compared to a wise man, who built his house on a rock.

²⁹ Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls.

⁵ Say to the daughter of Zion, "Look, your King comes to you, humble, and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey."

⁵ I say this to move you to shame. Is there not even one wise person among you who would be able to decide between a brother and his brother?

²⁴ Therefore show the proof of your love to them in front of the churches, and of our boasting about you.

¹ Now I Paul, myself, entreat you by the humility and gentleness of Christ; I who in your presence am lowly among you, but being absent am of good courage toward you.

²³ gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

¹ Brothers, even if someone is caught in some wrongdoing, you who are spiritual must restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; looking to yourself so that you also are not tempted.

⁴ But let each one test his own work, and then he will take pride in himself and not in his neighbor.

² with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love;

²⁷ Only let your manner of life be worthy of the Good News of Christ, that, whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of your state, that you stand firm in one spirit, with one soul striving for the faith of the Good News;

¹² Put on therefore, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, a heart of compassion, kindness, gentleness, humility, and patience;

¹² Let no one despise your youth; but be an example to those who believe, in word, in your way of life, in love, in faith, and in purity.

¹¹ But you, man of God, flee these things, and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, and gentleness.

²⁵ in gentleness correcting those who oppose him: perhaps God may give them repentance leading to a full knowledge of the truth,

² to speak evil of no one, not to be contentious, to be gentle, showing courtesy to all people.

⁵ Be free from the love of money, content with such things as you have, for he has said, "I will never leave you or forsake you."

²¹ Therefore, putting away all filthiness and overflowing of wickedness, receive with humility the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.

¹⁸ But someone will say, "You have faith, and I have works." Show me your faith without works, and I by my works will show you my faith.

¹ Let not many of you be teachers, my brothers, knowing that we will receive heavier judgment.

¹⁷ But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceful, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, without hypocrisy.

⁹ But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellence of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light:

¹² having good behavior among the nations, so in that of which they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they see, glorify God in the day of visitation.

¹ In like manner, wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; so that, even if any do not obey the word, they may be won by the behavior of their wives without a word; ² seeing your pure behavior in fear.

⁴ but in the hidden person of the heart, in the incorruptible adornment of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God very precious.

¹⁵ But sanctify in your hearts Christ as Lord; and always be ready to give an answer to everyone who asks you a reason concerning the hope that is in you, yet with humility and fear: ¹⁶ having a good conscience; so that when they speak evil against you, they may be put to shame who slander your good manner of life in Christ.

¹ When Rachel saw that she was not bearing Jacob any children, Rachel envied her sister. She said to Jacob, "Give me children, or else I will die." ² Then Jacob became very angry with Rachel, and he said, "Am I in God's place, who has withheld from you the fruit of the womb?"

¹¹ His brothers were jealous of him, but his father kept thinking about the matter.

¹⁶ He said, "Come with me, and see my zeal for the LORD." So he made him ride in his chariot.

³¹ But Jehu took no heed to walk in the law of the LORD, the God of Israel, with all his heart. He did not depart from the sins of Jeroboam, with which he made Israel to sin.

² For resentment kills the foolish man, and jealousy kills the simple.

³⁰ The life of the body is a heart at peace, but envy rots the bones.

⁴ Wrath is cruel, and anger is overwhelming; but who is able to stand before jealousy?

¹³ The envy also of Ephraim will depart, and those who persecute Judah will be cut off. Ephraim won't envy Judah, and Judah won't persecute Ephraim.

³ Why do you show me iniquity, and look at perversity? For destruction and violence are before me. There is strife, and contention rises up.

¹⁸ For he knew that because of envy they had delivered him up.

² They will put you out of the synagogues, but an hour is coming when whoever kills you will think that he is offering a service to God.

¹⁷ But the high priest rose up, and all those who were with him (which is the sect of the Sadducees), and they were filled with jealousy,

⁹ "The patriarchs, moved with jealousy against Joseph, sold him into Egypt; and God was with him,

⁴⁵ But when the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy, and contradicted the things which were spoken by Paul, and reviled him.

⁹ "In fact, I thought to myself that I ought to do many things against the name of Jesus the Nazorean.

²⁹ being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil habits, secret slanderers,

⁸ But to those who are self-seeking, and do not obey the truth, but obey wickedness -- wrath and anger,

¹⁷ But if you call yourself a Jew, and rely on the law, and boast in God,

²³ You who boast in the law, do you, by disobeying the law, dishonor God? ²⁴ For because of you the name of God is blasphemed among the nations, just as it is written. ²⁵ For circumcision indeed profits, if you are a doer of the law, but if you are a transgressor of the law, your circumcision has become uncircumcision. ²⁶ If therefore the uncircumcised keep the requirements of the law, won't his uncircumcision be counted as circumcision? ²⁷ Won't the uncircumcision which is by nature, if it fulfills the law, judge you, who with the letter and circumcision are a transgressor of the law? ²⁸ For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, neither is that circumcision which is outward in the flesh; ²⁹ but he is a Jew who is one inwardly, and circumcision is that of the heart, by the Spirit, not in the letter; whose praise is not from people, but from God.

¹³ Let us walk decently, as in the daytime; not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and lustful acts, and not in dissension and jealousy.

⁷ For who makes you different? And what do you have that you did not receive? But if you did receive it, why do you boast as if you had not received it? ⁸ You are already filled. You have already become rich. You have come to reign without us. Yes, and I wish that you did reign, that we also might reign with you.

² You are puffed up, and did not rather mourn, that he who had done this deed might be removed from among you.

⁶ Your boasting is not good. Do you not know that a little yeast leavens the whole lump?

⁴ Love is patient and is kind; love does not envy. Love does not brag, is not proud,

²⁰ For I am afraid that by any means, when I come, I might find you not the way I want to, and that I might be found by you as you do not desire; that by any means there would be strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, factions, slander, whisperings, proud thoughts, riots;

¹⁵ But if you bite and devour one another, be careful that you do not consume one another.

²¹ envyings, murders, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these; of which I forewarn you, even as I also forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the Kingdom of God.

²⁶ Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, and envying one another.

¹³ For even they who receive circumcision do not keep the law themselves, but they desire to have you circumcised, that they may boast in your flesh.

¹⁵ Some indeed proclaim Christ even out of envy and strife, and some also out of good will.

³ doing nothing through rivalry or through conceit, but in humility, each counting others better than himself;

⁴ he is conceited, knowing nothing, but obsessed with arguments, disputes, and word battles, from which come envy, strife, reviling, evil suspicions,

³ For we were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.

¹⁶ For where jealousy and selfish ambition are, there is confusion and every evil deed.

¹ Where do conflicts and quarrels among you come from? Do they not come from your passions that war in your members? ² You lust, and do not have. You kill, covet, and cannot obtain. You fight and make war. You do not have, because you do not ask. ³ You ask, and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it for your pleasures. ⁴ You adulterers and adulteresses, do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore whoever wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. ⁵ Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, "The Spirit which he made to dwell in us yearns jealously"?

¹⁹ My brothers, if any among you wanders from the truth, and someone turns him back,

¹ Putting away therefore all wickedness, and all deceit, and hypocrisy, and envy, and all slander, ² as newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby to salvation,

¹ Now the serpent was more shrewd than any of the wild animals which God had made. And he said to the woman, "Has God really said, 'You shall not eat of any tree of the garden?'" ² And the woman said to the serpent, "Of the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat, ³ but of the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God has said, 'You shall not eat of it, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.'" ⁴ The serpent said to the woman, "You won't surely die, ⁵ for God knows that in the day you eat it, your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil."

³ But Amnon had a friend, whose name was Jonadab, the son of Shimeah, David's brother. Now Jonadab was very crafty.

³¹ And it had been told to David, saying, "Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom." David said, "LORD, please turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness."

²³ The counsel of Ahithophel, which he gave in those days, was as if a man inquired at the oracle of God: so was all the counsel of Ahithophel both with David and with Absalom.

²² "For my people are foolish, they do not know me. They are foolish children, and they have no understanding. They are skillful in doing evil, but to do good they have no knowledge."

⁸ "His lord commended the dishonest manager for his shrewdness, for the people of this age are more shrewd in dealing with their own generation than the people of light.

¹⁷ For God did not send his Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world should be saved through him.

⁴⁴ You are of your father, the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks on his own; for he is a liar, and its father.

¹⁰ and said, "Full of all deceit and all fraud, you son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?

²² Claiming to be wise, they became fools,

¹⁹ For it is written, "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the discernment of the discerning I will nullify." ²⁰ Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Hasn't God made foolish the wisdom of the world?

²⁷ But God chose the foolish of the world to shame the wise. And God chose the weak of the world to shame the strong.

⁶ We speak wisdom, however, among those who are mature, but a wisdom not of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are passing away. ⁷ But we speak God's wisdom in a mystery, the wisdom that has been hidden, which God determined in advance before the ages for our glory,

¹⁴ Now the natural person does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.

¹⁹ For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, "He traps the wise in their craftiness."

¹² For our boasting is this: the testimony of our conscience, that with pure motives and sincerity of God, not in fleshly wisdom but in the grace of God we conducted ourselves in the world, and more abundantly toward you.

³ But I am afraid that somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve in his craftiness, so your minds might be corrupted from the sincerity and purity that is in Christ.

¹⁹ whose end is destruction, whose god is the belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who think about earthly things.

⁹ even he whose coming is according to the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,

¹ But the Spirit says expressly that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to seducing spirits and doctrines of demons,

⁵ But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without finding fault; and it will be given to him.

¹⁷ All generous giving and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, nor turning shadow.

⁸ He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. To this end the Son of God was revealed, to destroy the works of the devil. ⁹ Whoever is born of God does not commit sin, because his seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. ¹⁰ In this the children of God are revealed, and the children of the devil. Whoever does not do righteousness is not of God, neither is he who does not love his brother.

¹⁹ These are they who cause divisions, and are sensual, not having the Spirit.

²⁴ But to you I say, to the rest who are in Thyatira, as many as do not have this teaching, who do not know what some call 'the deep things of Satan,' to you I say, I am not putting any other burden on you.

¹¹ They have over them as king the angel of the abyss. His name in Hebrew is "Abaddon," and in Greek, he has the name "Apollyon."

⁹ Therefore its name was called Babel, because there God confused the language of all the earth. From there he scattered them over the face of the whole earth.

²⁹ The city was filled with confusion, and they rushed with one accord into the theater, having seized Gaius and Aristarchus, Macedonians, Paul's companions in travel.

³³ for God is not a God of confusion, but of peace. As in all the churches of the saints,

²⁰ idolatry, sorcery, hatred, strife, jealousies, outbursts of anger, rivalries, divisions, heresies,

¹⁴ But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, do not boast and do not lie against the truth.

¹² unlike Cain, who was of the evil one, and killed his brother. Why did he kill him? Because his works were evil, and his brother's righteous.

³⁸ Pharaoh said to his servants, “Can we find such a one as this, a man in whom is the Spirit of God?" ³⁹ So Pharaoh said to Joseph, "Because God has shown you all of this, there is no one as discerning and wise as you.

² Moses called Bezalel and Oholiab, and every wise-hearted man, in whose heart God had put wisdom, even everyone whose heart stirred him up to come to the work to do it:

⁹ Give your servant therefore an understanding heart to judge your people, that I may discern between good and evil; for who is able to judge this your great people?"

¹² look, I have done according to your word. Look, I have given you a wise and an understanding heart; so that there has been none like you before you, neither after you shall any arise like you.

²⁸ All Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged; and they feared the king: for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to do justice.

⁹ Look, a son shall be born to you, who shall be a man of rest. I will give him rest from all his enemies all around; for his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quietness to Israel in his days.

¹² May the LORD give you discretion and understanding, and put you in charge of Israel; that so you may keep the law of the LORD your God.

¹² "But where shall wisdom be found? Where is the place of understanding?

²³ "God understands its way, and he knows its place.

⁶ For the LORD gives wisdom. Out of his mouth comes knowledge and understanding.

⁴ He will judge between the nations, and will decide concerning many peoples; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.

⁶ For to us a child is born. To us a son is given; and the government will be on his shoulders, and his name is called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. ⁷ Of the increase of his government and of peace there shall be no end, on the throne of David, and on his kingdom, to establish it, and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from that time on, even forever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.

² The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him: the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD. ³ His delight will be in the fear of the LORD. He will not judge by the sight of his eyes, neither decide by the hearing of his ears; ⁴ but with righteousness he will judge the poor, and decide with equity for the humble of the earth. He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth; and with the breath of his lips he will kill the wicked. ⁵ Righteousness will be the belt of his waist, and faithfulness the belt of his waist. ⁶ The wolf will live with the lamb, and the leopard will lie down with the young goat; The calf and the young lion will graze together; and a little child will lead them. ⁷ The cow and the bear will graze. Their young ones will lie down together. The lion will eat straw like the ox. ⁸ The nursing child will play near a cobra's hole, and the weaned child will put his hand on the viper's den. ⁹ They will not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain; for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.

⁶ For the fool will speak folly, and his heart plans iniquity, to practice profanity, and to utter error against the LORD, To make empty the soul of the hungry, and to cause the drink of the thirsty to fail.

¹⁵ Until the Spirit is poured on us from on high, and the wilderness becomes a fruitful field, and the fruitful field is considered a forest. ¹⁶ Then justice will dwell in the wilderness; and righteousness will remain in the fruitful field. ¹⁷ The work of righteousness will be peace; and the effect of righteousness, quietness and confidence forever.

¹¹ He will feed his flock like a shepherd. He will gather the lambs in his arm, and carry them in his bosom. He will gently lead those who have their young.

¹⁷ Now as for these four youths, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.

⁹ "Therefore I have also made you contemptible and base before all the people, according to the way you have not kept my ways, but have had respect for persons in the law.

³ And he will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver, and he will purify the sons of Levi, and refine them as gold and silver; and they shall offer to the LORD offerings in righteousness.

⁸ Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.

²⁸ Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to people, but inwardly you are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.

³⁶ Therefore be merciful, even as your Father is also merciful.

¹ Meanwhile, when a crowd of many thousands had gathered together, so much so that they trampled on each other, he began to tell his disciples first of all, "Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. ² But there is nothing covered up, that will not be revealed, nor hidden, that will not be known.

¹⁵ for I will give you a mouth and wisdom which all your adversaries will not be able to withstand or to contradict.

¹⁴ And the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we saw his glory, such glory as of the one and only of the Father, full of grace and truth.

⁴⁷ Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and said about him, "Look, a true Israelite in whom there is no deceit."

³⁶ Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha (which when translated, means Dorcas). This woman was full of good works and acts of mercy which she did.

²⁴ For he was a good man, and full of the Holy Spirit and of faith, and many people were added to the Lord.

⁹ Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor that which is evil. Cling to that which is good.

¹⁸ If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all people.

¹⁴ I myself am also persuaded about you, my brothers, that you yourselves are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish others.

⁸ For to one is given through the Spirit the word of wisdom, and to another the word of knowledge, according to the same Spirit;

⁴ Love is patient and is kind; love does not envy. Love does not brag, is not proud, ⁵ does not behave itself inappropriately, does not seek its own way, is not irritable, does not keep a record of wrongs; ⁶ does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; ⁷ bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

¹⁰ Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food, will supply and multiply your seed for sowing, and increase the fruits of your righteousness;

²² But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, ²³ gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

⁹ for the fruit of the light is in all goodness and righteousness and truth,

¹¹ being filled with the fruit of righteousness, which are through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.

⁸ Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report; if there is any virtue, and if there is any praise, think on these things.

¹⁰ that you may walk worthily of the Lord, to please him in every way, bearing fruit in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;

⁷ But we were like little children among you, like a nursing mother cherishes her own children.

²¹ I command you in the sight of God, and Christ Jesus, and the chosen angels, that you observe these things without prejudice, doing nothing by partiality.

²⁴ The Lord's servant must not quarrel, but be gentle towards all, able to teach, patient,

¹⁵ To the pure, all things are pure; but to those who are defiled and unbelieving, nothing is pure; but both their mind and their conscience are defiled.

¹¹ All discipline seems for the moment painful, not joyful; yet afterward it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been exercised thereby.

¹⁴ Pursue peace with everyone, and the sanctification without which no one will see the Lord,

⁴ Have you not discriminated among yourselves, and become judges with evil thoughts?

¹⁵ This wisdom is not that which comes down from above, but is earthly, sensual, and demonic.

⁸ Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

²² Seeing you have purified your souls in your obedience to the truth in sincere brotherly affection, love one another from a pure heart fervently:

¹ Putting away therefore all wickedness, and all deceit, and hypocrisy, and envy, and all slander,

³ Everyone who has this hope set on him purifies himself, even as he is pure.

¹⁸ Little children, let us not love in word only, neither with the tongue only, but in deed and truth.

¹⁸ Wicked people earn deceitful wages, but one who sows righteousness reaps a sure reward.

²⁸ He who trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous shall flourish as the green leaf.

³⁰ The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he who plucks that life is wise.

¹² Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap according to kindness. Break up your fallow ground; for it is time to seek the LORD, until he comes and rains righteousness on you.

¹² Do horses run on the rocky crags? Does one plow there with oxen? But you have turned justice into poison, and the fruit of righteousness into bitterness;

⁹ Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called the children of God.

³⁶ He who reaps receives wages, and gathers fruit to everlasting life; that both he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together.

⁸ For he who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption. But he who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap everlasting life.

²⁰ for human anger does not produce the righteousness of God.
