¹ And Samuel's words came to all Israel. And Eli grew very old, and his sons kept advancing in their wicked behavior before the LORD. And it came to pass in those days that the Philistines gathered themselves together against Israel. And Israel went out to meet them in battle, and camped beside Ebenezer, and the Philistines camped in Aphek.

¹⁸ the king of Aphek, one; the king of Lasharon, one;

⁵³ and Janum, and Beth Tappuah, and Aphekah,

³⁰ and Acco, and Aphek, and Rehob: twenty-two cities with their villages.

¹¹ The LORD said to Samuel, "Look, I will do a thing in Israel, at which both the ears of everyone who hears it shall tingle.

¹ Now the Philistines had taken the ark of God, and they brought it from Ebenezer to Ashdod.

¹² Then Samuel took a stone, and set it between Mizpah and Jashan, and called its name Ebenezer, saying, "The LORD helped us until now."

¹ Now the Philistines gathered together all their armies to Aphek: and the Israelites camped by the spring which is in Jezreel.

³⁰ But the rest fled to Aphek, into the city; and the wall fell on twenty-seven thousand men who were left. Ben Hadad fled, and came into the city, into an inner room.
