¹ The child Samuel ministered to the LORD before Eli. The word of the LORD was rare in those days; there was no frequent vision. ² It happened at that time, when Eli was lying down in his place (now his eyes had begun to grow dim, so that he could not see), ³ and the lamp of God hadn't yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down in the LORD's temple, where the ark of God was; ⁴ that the LORD called, "Samuel. Samuel." And he said, "Here I am." ⁵ He ran to Eli, and said, "Here I am; for you called me." He said, "I did not call; lie down again." He went and lay down. ⁶ The LORD called yet again, "Samuel. Samuel." And he arose and went to Eli, and said, "Here I am; for you called me." He answered, "I did not call, my son; lie down again." ⁷ Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD, neither was the word of the LORD yet revealed to him. ⁸ The LORD called Samuel again the third time. He arose and went to Eli, and said, "Here I am; for you called me." Eli perceived that the LORD had called the child. ⁹ Therefore Eli said to Samuel, "Go, lie down: and it shall be, if he calls you, that you shall say, 'Speak, LORD; for your servant hears.'" So Samuel went and lay down in his place. ¹⁰ The LORD came, and stood, and called as at other times, "Samuel. Samuel." Then Samuel said, "Speak; for your servant hears." ¹¹ The LORD said to Samuel, "Look, I will do a thing in Israel, at which both the ears of everyone who hears it shall tingle. ¹² In that day I will perform against Eli all that I have spoken concerning his house, from the beginning even to the end. ¹³ For I have told him that I will judge his house forever, for the iniquity which he knew, because his sons were cursing God, and he did not restrain them. ¹⁴ Therefore I have sworn to the house of Eli, that the iniquity of Eli's house shall not be removed with sacrifice nor offering forever." ¹⁵ And Samuel lay there until the morning, and in the morning he got up and opened the doors of the house of the LORD. And Samuel was afraid to tell Eli the vision. ¹⁶ Then Eli called Samuel, and said, "Samuel, my son." He said, "Here I am." ¹⁷ He said, "What is the thing that he has spoken to you? Please do not hide it from me. God do so to you, and more also, if you hide anything from me of all the things that he spoke to you in your ears." ¹⁸ And Samuel told him everything, and did not hide anything from him. And he said, "It is the LORD. Let him do what seems good to him." ¹⁹ Samuel grew, and the LORD was with him, and let none of his words fall to the ground. ²⁰ All Israel from Dan even to Beersheba knew that Samuel was established to be a prophet of the LORD. ²¹ The LORD appeared again in Shiloh; for the LORD revealed himself to Samuel in Shiloh by the word of the LORD.

¹¹ Elkanah went to Ramah to his house. The child served the LORD before Eli the priest.

¹⁸ But Samuel ministered before the LORD, being a child, clothed with a linen ephod.

¹⁵ And Samuel lay there until the morning, and in the morning he got up and opened the doors of the house of the LORD. And Samuel was afraid to tell Eli the vision.

²¹ The LORD appeared again in Shiloh; for the LORD revealed himself to Samuel in Shiloh by the word of the LORD.

⁹ We see no miraculous signs. There is no longer any prophet, neither is there among us anyone who knows how long.

¹² I will make people more rare than fine gold, even a person than the pure gold of Ophir.

¹¹ Look, the days come," says the LORD, "that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the word of the LORD. ¹² They will wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east; they will run back and forth to seek the word of the LORD, and will not find it.

¹ It happened, that when Isaac was old, and his eyesight was failing so that he could not see, he called Esau his elder son, and said to him, "My son?" He said to him, "Here I am."

¹⁰ Now the eyes of Israel were failing because of his age, so that he couldnʼt see. Then he brought them near to him, and he kissed them and embraced them.

¹⁹ But his father refused, and said, "I know, my son, I know. He also will become a people, and he also will be great. However, his younger brother will be greater than he, and his descendants will become a multitude of nations."

²² Now Eli was very old; and he heard what his sons did to the children of Israel (and how that they lay with the women who served at the door of the Tent of Meeting).

¹⁵ Now Eli was ninety-eight years old; and his eyes were set, so that he could not see.

¹⁰ The days of our years are seventy, or even by reason of strength eighty years; yet their pride is but labor and sorrow, for it passes quickly, and we fly away.

³ in the day when the keepers of the house shall tremble, and the strong men shall bow themselves, and the grinders cease because they are few, and those who look out of the windows are darkened,

²⁰ "You shall command the children of Israel, that they bring to you pure olive oil beaten for the light, to cause a lamp to burn continually. ²¹ In the Tent of Meeting, outside the veil which is before the testimony, Aaron and his sons shall keep it in order from evening to morning before the LORD: it shall be a statute forever throughout their generations on the behalf of the children of Israel.

⁷ Aaron shall burn incense of sweet spices on it every morning. When he tends the lamps, he shall burn it. ⁸ When Aaron lights the lamps at evening, he shall burn it, a perpetual incense before the LORD throughout your generations.

² "Command the children of Israel, that they bring to you pure olive oil beaten for the light, to cause a lamp to burn continually. ³ Outside of the veil of the Testimony, in the Tent of Meeting, shall Aaron keep it in order from evening to morning before the LORD continually: it shall be a statute forever throughout your generations. ⁴ He shall keep in order the lamps on the pure gold lampstand before the LORD continually.

⁶ Her rival taunted her severely, to irritate her, because the LORD had shut up her womb.

¹¹ and they burn to the LORD every morning and every evening burnt offerings and sweet incense. They also set the show bread in order on the pure table; and the lampstand of gold with its lamps, to burn every evening: for we keep the instruction of the LORD our God; but you have forsaken him.

⁷ But as for me, in the abundance of your loving kindness I will enter into your house. I will bow toward your holy temple in reverence of you.

⁴ One thing I have asked of the LORD, that I will seek after, that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to see the LORD's beauty, and to inquire in his temple.

⁹ The voice of the LORD makes the large trees tremble, and strips the forests bare. In his temple everything says, "Glory."

¹ It happened after these things, that God tested Abraham, and said to him, "Abraham, Abraham." He said, "Here I am."

⁴ When the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called to him out of the midst of the bush, and said, "Moses. Moses." He said, "Here I am."

⁶ Moses and Aaron were among his priests, Samuel among those who call on his name; they called on the LORD, and he answered them.

⁸ I heard the Lord's voice, saying, "Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?" Then I said, "Here I am. Send me."

⁴ And he fell to the ground, and heard a voice saying to him, "Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?"

⁶ There are various kinds of workings, but the same God, who works all things in all. ⁷ But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the profit of all. ⁸ For to one is given through the Spirit the word of wisdom, and to another the word of knowledge, according to the same Spirit; ⁹ to another faith, by the same Spirit; and to another gifts of healings, by the one Spirit; ¹⁰ and to another workings of miracles; and to another prophecy; and to another discernings of spirits; to another different kinds of tongues; and to another the interpretation of tongues. ¹¹ But the one and the same Spirit works all of these, distributing to each one separately as he desires.

²⁸ God has set some in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracle workers, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, and various kinds of tongues.

¹⁵ But when God, who had set me apart from my mother's womb and called me through his grace, was pleased ¹⁶ to reveal his Son to me, that I might proclaim him among those who are not Jewish, I did not immediately confer with flesh and blood,

²⁹ And he looked up and saw his brother Benjamin, his motherʼs son, and said, "Is this your youngest brother, of whom you told me about?" Then he said, "God be gracious to you, my son."

¹⁶ The man said to Eli, "I am he who came out of the army, and I fled today out of the army." He said, "How did the matter go, my son?"

²² Then Ahimaaz the son of Zadok said yet again to Joab, "But come what may, please let me also run after the Cushite." Joab said, "Why do you want to run, my son, since that you will have no reward for the news?"

² And look, they brought to him a man who was paralyzed, lying on a bed. And Jesus, seeing their faith, said to the paralytic, "Son, cheer up. Your sins are forgiven."

²⁴ but let him who boasts boast in this, that he has understanding, and knows me, that I am the LORD who exercises loving kindness, justice, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight," says the LORD.

² He said to them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?" They said to him, "No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit."

¹⁴ For God speaks once, yes twice, though man pays no attention. ¹⁵ In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on men, in slumbering on the bed;

¹¹ When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I felt as a child, I thought as a child. Now that I have become an adult, I have put away childish things. ¹² For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I will know fully, even as I was also fully known.

¹⁹ They said to Moses, "Speak with us yourself, and we will listen; but do not let God speak with us, lest we die."

⁸ I will hear what God, the LORD, will speak, for he will speak peace to his people, his faithful ones; but let them not turn again to folly.

¹⁹ And he said, "Greatly loved man, do not be afraid, peace be to you; be strong, be strong." When he spoke to me, I was strengthened, and said, "Let my lord speak, for you have strengthened me."

⁶ But rise up, and enter into the city, and you will be told what you must do."

⁴ that the LORD called, "Samuel. Samuel." And he said, "Here I am." ⁵ He ran to Eli, and said, "Here I am; for you called me." He said, "I did not call; lie down again." He went and lay down. ⁶ The LORD called yet again, "Samuel. Samuel." And he arose and went to Eli, and said, "Here I am; for you called me." He answered, "I did not call, my son; lie down again."

⁸ The LORD called Samuel again the third time. He arose and went to Eli, and said, "Here I am; for you called me." Eli perceived that the LORD had called the child.

¹² therefore thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, 'Look, I bring such disaster on Jerusalem and Judah, that whoever hears of it, both his ears shall tingle.

¹⁹ As often as it passes through, it will seize you; for morning by morning it will pass through, by day and by night; and it will be nothing but terror to understand the message."

¹⁴ Therefore, look, I will again do a marvelous work among this people, even a marvelous work and a wonder; and I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the discernment of the discerning I will nullify."

³ and say, 'Hear the word of the LORD, kings of Judah, and inhabitants of Jerusalem: thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, "Look, I will bring evil on this place, which whoever hears, his ears shall tingle.

⁶ Does the trumpet alarm sound in a city, without the people being afraid? Does disaster happen to a city, unless the LORD has done it? ⁷ Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, unless he reveals his secret to his servants the prophets.

⁵ "Look, you scoffers, and watch, and be utterly amazed, and perish; for I am working a work in your days which you will not believe, though it is told you.

²⁶ people will be fainting from fear, and from expectation of the things which are coming on the world, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken.

⁴¹ 'Look, you scoffers, and be amazed, and perish; for I am working a work in your days, a work which you will not believe, if one tells it to you.'"

¹⁹ God is not a man, that he should lie, nor the son of man, that he should repent. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not make it good?

¹⁵ It shall happen that as all the good things have come on you of which the LORD your God spoke to you, so the LORD will bring on you all the evil things, until he has destroyed you from off this good land which the LORD your God has given you,

²⁷ A man of God came to Eli, and said, "Thus says the LORD, I plainly revealed myself to the house of your father, when they were slaves in Egypt to the house of Pharaoh. ²⁸ And I chose him out of all the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to go up to my altar, to burn incense, to wear an ephod before me. And I gave to the house of your father all the offerings by fire of the children of Israel as food. ²⁹ Why do you look down on my sacrifice and on my offering, which I have commanded for my dwelling place, and honor your sons above me, to make yourselves fat with the best of all the offerings of Israel my people?' ³⁰ "Therefore the LORD, the God of Israel, says, 'I said indeed that your house, and the house of your father, should walk before me forever.' But now the LORD says, 'Be it far from me; for those who honor me I will honor, and those who despise me shall be lightly esteemed. ³¹ Look, the days come, that I will cut off your descendants, and the descendants of your father's house, that there shall not be an old man in your house. ³² And you will see distress in the dwelling place, in all that he does good with Israel. And there will not be an old man in your house all the days. ³³ And the man of yours I do not cut off from my altar will be to cause his eyes to fail and to grieve his soul, and all the increase of your house will die by the sword of men. ³⁴ "'This shall be the sign to you, that shall come on your two sons, on Hophni and Phinehas: in one day they shall both die. ³⁵ I will raise me up a faithful priest, that shall do according to that which is in my heart and in my mind. I will build him a sure house; and he shall walk before my anointed forever. ³⁶ It shall happen, that everyone who is left in your house shall come and bow down to him for a piece of silver and a loaf of bread, and shall say, "Please put me into one of the priests' offices, that I may eat a morsel of bread."'"

⁶ But my words and my statutes, which I commanded by my Spirit to my servants the prophets, did they not overtake your fathers? Then they repented and said, 'Just as the LORD of hosts determined to do to us, according to our ways, and according to our practices, so he has dealt with us.'"

³³ Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will by no means pass away.

¹² Now the sons of Eli were base men; they did not know the LORD.

¹⁷ The sin of the young men was very great before the LORD; for they despised the offering of the LORD.

²² Now Eli was very old; and he heard what his sons did to the children of Israel (and how that they lay with the women who served at the door of the Tent of Meeting). ²³ And he said to them, "Why do you do such things as these that I hear being said of you from the mouth of the people of the LORD? ²⁴ No, my sons, do not do this. For it is not a good report that I hear the people of the LORD spreading. ²⁵ If one man sins against another, he shall appeal to the LORD; but if a man sins against the LORD, who shall entreat for him?" But, they did not listen to the voice of their father, because the LORD intended to kill them. ²⁶ The child Samuel grew on, and increased in favor both with the LORD, and also with men.

⁶ His father had never scolded him at any time by saying, "Why have you done so?" And he was also a very handsome man; and he was born after Absalom.

⁴⁴ The king said moreover to Shimei, "You know all the wickedness which your heart is privy to, that you did to David my father. Therefore the LORD shall return your wickedness on your own head.

¹² Our God, will you not judge them? For we have no might against this great company that comes against us; neither know we what to do, but our eyes are on you."

¹⁸ Discipline your son, for there is hope; do not be a willing party to his death.

¹³ Do not withhold correction from a child. If you punish him with the rod, he will not die. ¹⁴ Punish him with the rod, and save his soul from Sheol.

¹⁵ The rod of correction gives wisdom, but a child left to himself causes shame to his mother.

²² for often your own heart knows that you yourself have likewise cursed others.

³ Now is the end on you, and I will send my anger on you, and will judge you according to your ways; and I will bring on you all your abominations.

³⁰ "'Therefore I will judge you, house of Israel, everyone according to his ways,' says the Lord GOD. 'Return, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin.

¹² "Let the nations arouse themselves, and come up to the Valley of Jehoshaphat; for there will I sit to judge all the surrounding nations.

³⁷ Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

²⁰ because if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things.

³¹ "'Thus you shall separate the children of Israel from their uncleanness, so they will not die in their uncleanness, when they defile my tabernacle that is in their midst.'"

³⁰ "'But the person who acts defiantly, whether he is native-born or a foreigner, the same blasphemes God, and that person is to be cut off from among his people. ³¹ Because he has despised the word of the LORD, and has broken his commandment, that soul shall utterly be cut off; his iniquity shall be on him.'"

¹⁶ For you do not delight in sacrifice, or else I would give it. You have no pleasure in burnt offering.

¹⁴ The LORD of hosts revealed himself in my ears, "Surely this iniquity will not be forgiven you until you die," says the Lord, the LORD of hosts.

¹⁶ Therefore do not pray for this people, neither lift up a cry nor prayer for them, neither make intercession to me; for I will not hear you.

¹ Then the LORD said to me, "Though Moses and Samuel stood before me, yet my mind would not be toward this people: cast them out of my sight, and let them go forth.

¹³ In your filthiness is lewdness: because I have cleansed you and you weren't cleansed, you shall not be cleansed from your filthiness any more, until I have caused my wrath toward you to rest.

⁴ For it is impossible that the blood of bulls and goats should take away sins. ⁵ Therefore when he comes into the world, he says, "Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body you prepared for me. ⁶ Whole burnt offerings and sin-offerings you took no pleasure in. ⁷ Then I said, 'Look, I have come. It is written about me in the scroll of a book; to do your will, God.'" ⁸ Previously saying, "Sacrifices and offerings and whole burnt offerings and sin-offerings you did not desire, nor took pleasure in” (which are offered according to the Law), ⁹ then he said, “Look, I have come to do your will.” He takes away the first, that he may establish the second, ¹⁰ by which will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

²⁶ For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remains no more a sacrifice for sins, ²⁷ but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and a fierceness of fire which will devour the adversaries. ²⁸ Anyone who disregards the Law of Moses dies without compassion on the word of two or three witnesses. ²⁹ How much worse punishment, do you think, will he be judged worthy of, who has trodden under foot the Son of God, and has counted the blood of the covenant with which he was sanctified an unholy thing, and has insulted the Spirit of grace? ³⁰ For we know him who said, "Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay." Again, "The Lord will judge his people." ³¹ It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

⁹ So Hannah rose after eating and drinking in Shiloh, and stood before the LORD. Now Eli the priest was sitting on the seat by the doorpost of the temple of the LORD.

⁶ Then I said, "Ah, Lord GOD. Look, I do not know how to speak; for I am a child." ⁷ But the LORD said to me, "Do not say, 'I am a child;' for to whoever I shall send you, you shall go, and whatever I shall command you, you shall speak. ⁸ Do not be afraid because of them; for I am with you to deliver you," says the LORD.

¹⁰ "Oh that there were one among you who would shut the doors, that you might not kindle fire on my altar in vain. I have no pleasure in you," says the LORD of hosts, "neither will I accept an offering at your hand.

¹⁰ Now if Timothy comes, see that he is with you without fear, for he does the work of the Lord, as I also do. ¹¹ Therefore let no one despise him. But set him forward on his journey in peace, that he may come to me; for I expect him with the brothers.

¹⁷ where you die, will I die, and there will I be buried. The LORD do so to me, and more also, if anything but death part you and me."

¹³ God do so to Jonathan, and more also, should it please my father to do you evil, if I do not disclose it to you, and send you away, that you may go in peace. And may the LORD be with you, as he has been with my father.

³⁵ Then all the people came to persuade David to eat bread while it was yet day; but David swore, saying, "God do so to me, and more also, if I taste bread, or anything else, until the sun goes down."

¹³ And say to Amasa, 'Arenʼt you my bone and my flesh? Now then, God do so to me, and more also, if you aren't commander of the army before me continually in place of Joab. '"

¹⁶ The king said to him, "How many times do I have to adjure you that you speak to me nothing but the truth in the name of the LORD?"

⁵ Let the righteous strike me, it is kindness; let him reprove me, it is like oil on the head; do not let my head refuse it; Yet my prayer is always against evil deeds.

¹⁹ Then Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, was stricken mute for a while, and his thoughts troubled him. The king answered, Belteshazzar, "Do not let the dream, or the interpretation, trouble you." Belteshazzar answered, "My lord, the dream concerns those who hate you, and its interpretation to your adversaries.

⁷ Shall it be said, O house of Jacob: "Is the Spirit of the LORD angry? Are these his doings? Do not my words do good to him who walks blamelessly?"

⁶³ But Jesus held his peace. The high priest answered him, "I adjure you by the living God, that you tell us whether you are the Christ, the Son of God."

²⁵ Be it far from you to do things like that, to kill the righteous with the wicked, so that the righteous should be like the wicked. May that be far from you. Shouldn't the Judge of all the earth do right?"

¹⁵ The children of Israel said to the LORD, "We have sinned. Do to us whatever seems good to you; only deliver us, please, this day."

¹⁰ The king said, "What have I to do with you, you sons of Zeruiah? Because he curses, and because the LORD has said to him, 'Curse David;' who then shall say, 'Why have you done so?'" ¹¹ David said to Abishai, and to all his servants, "Look, my son, who came forth from my bowels, seeks my life. How much more this Benjamite, now? Leave him alone, and let him curse; for the LORD has invited him. ¹² It may be that the LORD will look on my affliction and return good to me for his cursing today."

²¹ He said, "Naked I came out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return there. The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away. Blessed be the name of the LORD."

¹⁰ But he said to her, "You speak as one of the foolish women would speak. Shall we indeed accept good at the hand of God, and shall we not accept adversity?" In all this Job did not sin with his lips.

⁹ I was mute. I did not open my mouth, because you did it.

⁸ Then Hezekiah said to Isaiah, "The LORD's word which you have spoken is good." He said moreover, "For there will be peace and truth in my days."

³⁹ Why does a living man complain, a man for the punishment of his sins?

⁶ Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time;

²² It happened at that time, that Abimelech and Phicol the commander of his army spoke to Abraham, saying, "God is with you in all that you do.

² And the LORD was with Joseph, and he became a successful man. And he was in the household of his master the Egyptian.

²¹ But the LORD was with Joseph and showed him kindness and gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison. ²² The keeper of the prison put Joseph in charge of all the prisoners who were in the prison; he was made responsible for everything that was done there. ²³ The keeper of the prison paid no attention to anything that was under his supervision, because God was with him, and made everything he did successful.

²⁴ The woman bore a son, and named him Samson. And the child grew, and the LORD blessed him.

²¹ The LORD visited Hannah, and she bore more children, three sons and two daughters. The child Samuel grew before the LORD.

⁶ He said to him, "See now, there is in this city a man of God, and he is a man who is held in honor. All that he says surely comes to pass. Now let us go there. Perhaps he can tell us concerning our journey on which we have set out."

¹⁴ David behaved himself wisely in all his ways; and the LORD was with him.

⁵⁶ "Blessed be the LORD, who has given rest to his people Israel, according to all that he promised. There has not failed one word of all his good promise, which he promised by Moses his servant.

² When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned, and the flame will not scorch you.

²⁶ who confirms the word of his servant, and performs the counsel of his messengers; who says of Jerusalem, 'She will be inhabited;' and of the cities of Judah, 'They will be built,' and 'I will raise up its waste places;'

²³ "Look, the virgin will conceive and bear a son, and they will call his name Immanuel;" which is translated, "God with us."

²⁸ Having come in, the angel said to her, "Greetings, favored one. The Lord is with you."

⁸⁰ The child was growing, and becoming strong in spirit, and was in the desert until the day of his public appearance to Israel.

⁴⁰ The child was growing, and was becoming strong, being filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was upon him.

⁵² And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and people.

¹¹ Finally, brothers, rejoice. Be perfected, be comforted, be of the same mind, live in peace, and the God of love and peace will be with you.

¹⁴ The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all.

²² The Lord be with your spirit. Grace be with you.

¹ Then all the children of Israel went out, and the congregation was assembled as one man, from Dan even to Beersheba, with the land of Gilead, to the LORD at Mizpah.

¹⁰ to transfer the kingdom from the house of Saul, and to set up the throne of David over Israel and over Judah, from Dan even to Beersheba."

¹¹ But, I strongly advise as follows, that all Israel be gathered together to you, from Dan even to Beersheba, as the sand that is by the sea for multitude; and that you personally go into battle.

¹² And I thank him who enabled me, Christ Jesus our Lord, because he counted me faithful, appointing me to service;

⁷ Then God appeared to Abram and said to him, "I will give this land to your offspring." He built an altar there to God, who appeared to him.

¹ After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, saying, "Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield; your reward will be very great."
