¹ What shall we saye then, that Abraham oure father as pertaynyng to the fleshe, dyd fynde?

² Consydre Abraham youre father, & Sara that bare you: how that I called him alone prospered hym well, & encreased him:

⁹ And se that ye once thinke not to saye in your selues, we haue Abraham to our father. For I say vnto you, that God is able of these stones rayse vp children vnto Abraham.

⁸ Bringe forth due frutes of repentaunce, and begin not to saye in your selues, we haue Abraham to our father: For I say vnto you God is able of these stones to rayse vp chyldren vnto Abraham.

²⁴ and he cryed & sayed: father Abraham haue mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he maye dyppe the typpe of his fynger in water, and cole my tonge, for I am tormented in this flamme. ²⁵ But Abraham sayd vnto hym. Sonne, remembre that thou in thy lyfe tyme, receyuedest thy pleasure, and contrarywyse Lazarus payne. Nowe therfore is he conforted, and thou arte punyshed.

²⁹ Abraham said vnto hym: they haue Moyses and the Prophetes: let them heare them. ³⁰ And he sayd: nay father Abraham, but yf one came vnto them from the dead, they woulde repent. ³¹ He sayed vnto hym: yf they heare not Moyses, and the Prophetes, neyther wyll they beleue, though one rose from death agayne.

³³ They aunswered hym. We be Abrahams seede, and were neuer bonde to any man: why sayest thou then: ye shalbe made, fre?

³⁷ I knowe that ye are Abrahams sede, but ye seke meanes to kyl me, because my sayinges haue no place in you. ³⁸ I speake that I haue sene with my father: and ye do that which ye haue sene with youre father. ³⁹ They aunswered, & sayde vnto hym. Abraham is oure father. Iesus sayde vnto them: yf ye were Abrahams chyldren, ye woulde do the dedes of Abraham. ⁴⁰ But nowe ye go about to kyll me, a man that haue tolde you the truthe whiche I haue hearde of God, thys dyd not Abraham, ⁴¹ ye do the dedes of your father. Then sayde they to him: we were not borne of fornicion. We haue one father, whiche is God.

⁵³ Art thou greater then oure father Abraham which is dead? And the Prophetes are dead: Whome makest thou thy selfe?

⁵⁶ Your father Abraham was glad to se my daye and he sawe it, and reioyced.

²⁶ Ye men and brethren, chyldren of the generacyon of Abraham, and whosoeuer amonge you, feareth God, to you is this worde of saluacyon sente.

¹⁶ Therfore by fayth is the inheritaunce geuen, that it myght come of fauoure: and the promes myghte be sure to all the seed. Not to them onelye, which are of the lawe: but also to them whiche are of the fayth of Abraham, which is the father of vs all.

¹ What shall we saye then? Shal we continue in synne, that there maye be aboundaunce of grace?

⁷ What shall we saye then? Is the lawe synne? God forbid: but I knewe not what synne meante but by the law. For I had not knowne what luste had meant, except the lawe had sayed, thou shalte, not lust.

³¹ What shall we then say vnto these thynges? yf God be on oure syde: who can be agaynste vs?

²² They are Hebrues, so am I: They are Israelytes, euen so am I. They are the seede of Abraham, euen so am I.

⁹ Moreouer seynge we had fathers of oure fleshe whiche corrected vs, and we gaue them reuerence: shoulde we not muche rather be in subieccyon vnto the father of spyrytuall gyftes, that we myght lyue?
