And he gaue him to wyfe Asnath the daughter of Putiphar preast of On. Than went Ioseph abrode in the lande of Egypte. ⁴⁶ And he was .xxx. yere olde when he stode before Pharao kyng of Egypte. And than Ioseph departed from Pharao, & went thorow out al the lande of Egypte. ⁴⁷ And in the .vij. plenteous yeres they made sheues ⁴⁸ & gathered vp all the fode of the .vij. plenteous yeres whych were in the lande of Egypte & put it in to the cyties. And he put the foode of the feldes that grewe rounde about euery cyte: euen in the same. ⁴⁹ And Ioseph layde vp corne in stoore, lyke vnto the sande of the sea in multitude out of mesure, vntyll he left nombrynge: For it was wyth out nombre. ⁵⁰ And vnto Ioseph were borne .ij. sonnes before the yeres of hunger came, which Asnath the doughter of Putiphar preast of On, bare vnto him. ⁵¹ And he called the name of the fyrst sonne Manasse, for God (sayde he) hath made me forget all my laboure and all my fathers houshold. ⁵² The seconde called he Ephraim, for God (sayde he) hath caused me to growe in the lande of my trouble. ⁵³ And when the .vij. yeres of plenteousnes that was in the land of Egypte were ended, ⁵⁴ than came the .vij. yeres of derth, acordyng as Ioseph had sayd. And the derth was in all landes: but in the lande of Egypte was there yet foode. ⁵⁵ When now all the lande of Egypt beganne to hunger, than cryed the people to Pharao for breade. And Pharao sayde vnto all Egypte: goo vnto Iosephe, and what he sayth to you that doo. ⁵⁶ And when the dearthe was throw out all the lande, Ioseph opened all that was in the cyties and solde vnto the Egypcyans. And hunger waxed sore in the lande of Egypte: ⁵⁷ And all countrees came to Egypte to Ioseph for to bye corne: bicause that the hunger was so sore in all the landes.

⁶ This Esdras was a quicke scribe in the lawe of Moses, whiche the Lord God of Israel dyd geue. And the kinge gaue him al that he requireth accordynge to the hande of the Lord his God vpon him. ⁷ And there went vp certayne of the children of Israel, & of the priestes, and of the Leuites, of the syngers, of the porters, and of the Nethinims vnto Ierusalem, in the seuenth yeare of kinge Arthaxerses. ⁸ And they came to Ierusalem in the fyfth moneth, that is the seuenth yeare of the kinge. ⁹ For vpon the first daye of the first moneth, deuised he to go vp from Babylon: and on the fyrste daye of the fyfte moneth came he to Ierusalem, accordynge to the good hande of God vpon hym. ¹⁰ For Esdras prepared his hert to seke the law of the Lord, and to do it, and do teache the precept and iudgement in Israel. ¹¹ And this is the copy of the letter, that kinge Arthaxerses gaue vnto Esdras the pryest, the scribe, whiche was a teacher in the wordes of the Lorde & of hys statues ouer Israel.

⁴ Then sayde the kyng vnto me: what is then thy request? then made I my prayer to the God of heauen, ⁵ and sayde vnto the king: yf it please the kyng, and yf thy seruaunte be fauoured in thy syghte, I be seke the sende me into Iuda vnto the cytye of my fathers buriall, that I maye buylde it. ⁶ And the kynge sayde vnto me, & so dyd the quene that sat by him: how long shal thy iourney continue, & when wylt thou come againe? And it pleased the kinge to sende me, and I set hym a tyme,

³ For Mardocheus the Iewe was the second next vnto the kinge Ahasuerus, and greate amonge the Iewes, and accepted amonge the multitude of hys brethren, as one that seketh the welth of his people and speaketh the beste for all hys seade.

² Thou arte the fayrest amonge the chyldren of men, full of grace are thy lyppes, therfore God blesseth the for euer.

⁶ Myne eyes shal loke for such as be faythfull in the lande, that they maye dwell wyth me: and who so leadeth a godly liue, shall be my seruaunt.

³⁵ A dyscrete seruaunt is a pleasure vnto the Kynge, but one that is not honest prouoketh hym vnto wrath.

¹³ Ryghtuous lyppes are pleasaunte vnto kynges, and they loue hym that speaketh the trueth.

⁴⁶ Then the kynge Nabuchodonosor fell doune vpon hys face, and bowed hym self vnto Daniel, and commaunded that they shuld offre meate offerynges and swete odours vnto hym. ⁴⁷ The kynge aunswered Daniel, and sayde: yea of a trueth your God is a GOD aboue all Goddes, a Lorde aboue all kynges and an opener of secretes: seynge thou canste dyscouer thys mysterye. ⁴⁸ So the kynge made Daniel a greate man, and gaue hym many & greate gyftes. He made hym ruler of all the countrees of Babylon, and Lorde of all the nobles, that were at Babylon. ⁴⁹ Now Daniel intreated the kynge so: Sidrach, Misach and Abednago, so that he made them rulers ouer all the offyces in the lande of Babylon: But Danyel hymselfe remayned styll in the courte by the kynge.

³⁰ So the kynge promoted Sidrach, Misach, and Abednago, in the land of Babylon.

²⁰ Now as he came nye vnto the denne, he cried with a pyteous voyce vnto Daniell: yea the Kinge spake, and sayde vnto Daniel: O Daniel, thou seruaunt of the lyuynge God, is not thy God (whom thou alwaye seruest) able to deliuer the from the Lyons? ²¹ Daniel sayde vnto the Kinge: O King, God saue thy lyfe for euer. ²² My God hath sent his aungell whiche hath shut the lyons mouthes, so that they might not hurte me. For why? myne vngiltinesse is founde oute before him. And as for the, O Kinge, I neuer offended the. ²³ Then was the kinge exceadinge glad, and commaunded to take Daniel out of the denne. So Daniel was broughte oute of the denne, and no maner of hurte was found vpon him. For he put his trust in his God.

⁸ Blessed are the pure in hert: for thei shal se God.

²² And all bare him witnes, and wondred at the gracious wordes which proceded out of his mouthe, and saide: Is not this Iosephs sonne?
