¹ I woulde ye knewe what fightinge I haue for your sakes, & for them of Laodicia, and for as many as haue not sene my person in the fleshe,

⁸ And Rahel sayd: God is turned, and I haue made a chaunge wyth my syster, and haue gotten the vpper hande. And she called hys name: Nepthaly.

²⁴ & taried behind hym selfe alone. And ther wresteled a man wyth him vnto the breaking of the day. ²⁵ And when he sawe that he could not preuayle agaynste hym, he smote hym vnder the thye, & the senowe of Iacobs thye shranke as he wrestled with him ²⁶ And he said: let me goo, for the day breaketh. And he said: I wyll not lette the go, excepte thou blesse me. ²⁷ And he sayd vnto hym: what is thy name? He answered: Iacob. ²⁸ And he said: thou shalt be called Iacob no more, but Israel. For thou hast wresteled with God and hast preuayled. ²⁹ And Iacob asked hym sayinge, tell me thy name. And he said, wherfore doest thou aske after my name? & he blessed hym there. ³⁰ And Iacob called the name of that place Pheniel for I haue sene God face to face, & yet is my life reserued.

³ He toke his brother by the hele, when he was yet in his mothers wombe: & in his strengthe he wrestled with God. ⁴ He stroue with the Aungel, and gat the victorye, so that he praid and desyred hym. He founde him at Bethel, & there he talked with vs.

⁴⁴ And he was in agonye, and praied some what longer. And his sweate was lyke droppes of bloude trycklinge doune to the grounde.

²⁵ And now beholde, I am sure that henceforth ye al (through whom I haue gone preachyng the kingdom of God) shal se my face no more.

³⁸ sorowynge moste of all for the wordes which he spake, that they should se hys face no more. And they accompanied hym vnto the shyppe.

¹⁹ My lytle chyldren (of whome I trauayle in byrth agayne vntyll Christe be fashyoned in you)

³⁰ and haue euen the same fyght, whiche ye sawe me haue and now heare of me.

²⁴ Nowe ioye I in my sufferinges which I suffer for you, and fulfyll that whiche is behinde of the passions of Christe in my fleshe for his bodies sake, which is the congregacion,

²⁹ Wherin I also labour and stryue euen as farforth as his workinge worketh in me mightely.

⁵ For though I be absent in fleshe: yet am I present with you in the spirite ioyenge and beholdinge the order that ye kepe, and your stedfast faith in Christ.

¹² Epaphras the seruaunte of Christe, which is one of you, saluteth you, and alwaies laboureth feruentlye for you in prayers, that ye maye stande perfecte and full in all that is the wyll of God. ¹³ I beare hym recorde, that he hath a feruent minde towarde you and towarde them of Laodicia and them of Hierapolis.

¹⁵ Salute the brethren whiche are of Laodicia, and salute Nimphas, and the congregacion, which is in hys house. ¹⁶ And when the Epistle is read of you, make that it be read in the congregacion of the Laodicians also and that ye lykewyse read the Epistle of Laodycya.

² but euen after that we had suffred before, and were shamefullye entreated at Philippos (as ye wel know) then were we bolde in our God to speake vnto you the Gospel of God wyth muche stryuynge.

⁷ Which in the daies of his flesh did offer vp praiers and supplications, wyth strong criynge and teares, vnto him that was able to saue hym from death, and was also hearde because of his Godlines.

⁸ whome ye haue not sene, and yet loue hym, in whome euen nowe, thoughe ye se hym not, yet do you beleue: and reioyce with ioye vnspeakeable and gloryous:

¹¹ saiynge. I am Alpha and Omega, the fyrst and the laste. That thou seest wryte in a boke, and sende it vnto the congregacyons which are in Asia, vnto Ephesus, and vnto Smyrna, & vnto Pergamos, and vnto Sardis, & vnto Phyladelphia, and vnto Laodicia.

¹⁴ And vnto the messenger of the congregacion, which is in Laodicia wryte: Thys sayth (Amen) the faythful and true wytnes, the beginninge of the creatures of God. ¹⁵ I knowe thy workes, that thou art neyther colde nor hote. I would thou were colde or hote. ¹⁶ So then because thou arte betwene both, and neyther colde nor hote. I wyll, spewe the out of my mouth: ¹⁷ because thou art ryche and increased wyth goodes, and hast nede of nothinge, and knowest not howe thou art wretched and miserable, poore, blind and naked. ¹⁸ I counsel the to bye of me golde tryed in the fyre, that thou mayest be ryche, and whyte raymente, that thou mayest be clothed, that thy fylthye nakednes do not appere, & annointe thine eyes wyth eye salue, that thou maiest se. ¹⁹ As manye as I loue, I rebuke and chastes. Be feruent therfore and repente. ²⁰ Behold I stande at the dore and knocke. Yf anye man heare my voice and open the dore. I wil come in vnto him, and will suppe with him, and he wyth me. ²¹ To hym that ouercommeth, wyl I graunt to sit with me in my seate euen as I ouercame and haue sitten wyth my father, in his seate. ²² Let him that hath eares, heare what the spyrite sayth vnto the congregacions.
