¹⁷ And after the death of Iehoiada, came the Lordes of Iuda and made obeysaunce to the kynge. And then he herkened vnto them.

²⁷ I for knowe thy stubburnes and thy styffe necke: beholde whyle I am yet a lyue wyth you thys daye, ye haue bene disobediente vnto the Lorde: & howe much more after my death?

⁸ But he lefte the councell whiche the elders gaue hym, & toke councell wyth the young men that were noursed vp wt hym, & had stande in hys presence, ⁹ and said to them: what aduise geue ye that I may answer thys people which haue communed with me, sayinge: Abate somewhat of the youck which thy father dyd put vpon vs. ¹⁰ And the young men that were nourced vp wyth hym talked wyth hym saying: thus answere the people that spake to the saying. Thy father made oure youcke heauye: But make thou oure youcke somewhat lyghter. Thus wyse aunswere them: my lytle fynger shalbe heuyer then my fathers loynes.

³ And he walked also in the wayes of the house of Ahab, for his mother was his counseler for to do euill. ⁴ Wherfore he did that displeased the lorde like the house of Ahab for they were his counselers after the death of his father, to his destruccion. And he also walked after their counsel.

²¹ Thus with many swete woordes she ouercome hym, and with her flatteryng lippes she wanne hym. ²² Immediatly he folowed her, as it were an oxe led to the slaughter (& lyke as it were to the stockes, where foles are punyshed) ²³ so longe tyll she had wounded hys lyuer with her dart: like as if a byrde hasted to the snare not knowyng that the parell of his lyfe lieth therupon.

¹⁹ Medle not with hym that bewrayeth secretes, and is a sclaunderer, and disceaueth with hys lippes.

⁸ He that setteth a foole in hye dignity, that is euen as if a man did cast a precious stone vp on the gallous.

²⁸ A dissembling tong hateth one that rebuketh hym, and a flattering mouth worketh mischefe.

⁵ Whoso flattereth hys neyghboure, layeth a nette for hys fete.

¹² If a prynce delyte iu lyes, all his seruauntes are vngodly.

³² And suche as breake the couenaunt shal he flattre wyth fayre wordes. But the people that wyll know their God, shal haue the ouerhand, and prospere.

²⁹ For I am sure of this, that after my departing shall greuous wolues enter in amonge you, which wyll not spare the flocke. ³⁰ Moreouer of your own selues shal men aryse speakyng peruerse thinges to draw disciples after them.

¹⁵ I wil enforce therfore that on euerye syde ye myght haue wherwith to stere vp the remembraunce of these thynges after my departinge.
