¹ And the Philistines toke the arcke of God, & caried it from the helpe stone vnto Asdod, & broughte it

²² So that there was not one Enakyte left in the lande of the chyldren of Israel: onelye in Asah, Geth, and Asdod, there remayned of them.

³ from Nilus in Egypte vnto the borders of Akaron northwarde, whiche lande was counted to pertayne vnto the Cananites, euen to the fyue Lordes of the Phylistynes, the Asathites, the Asdadytes, Ascalonytes, Gethites, Akaronites, with the Euites, from the south.

¹ And Samuel spake vnto all Israel. And Israel went out agaynst the Philistines to battell, & pytched besyde the help stone. And the Philistines pytched in Aphek.

¹¹ And the arcke of God was taken, and the two sonnes of Eli, Hophni & Phinehes were dead.

¹⁷ And the messenger answered & sayd: Israel is fled before the Philistines, & there is a great slaughter chaunsed amonge the people, and thy two sonnes, Hophni & Phinehes are dead, & therto the arck of God is taken. ¹⁸ And when he made mencyon of the arcke of God, Eli fell from of hys stole backwarde towarde the gate, and hys necke brake, & he dyed: for he was olde & vnweldye and he had iudged Israel fourtye yeares.

²² And therfore she sayde, honoure is gone from Israel, because the arcke of God was taken.

¹² And then Samuel toke a stone, & pitched it betwene Mazphah & Sen, & called the name therof the stone of help, saying: thus farre hath the Lorde holp vs.

⁶¹ He delyuered their power into captyuitye and their glory into the enemies hande.

⁴⁰ but Philippe was found at Azotus. And he walked thorow out the countrie preachynge in theyr cytyes, tyll he came to Cesarea.
