¹ Then Jacob lift up his feet, and went toward the east country.

²⁰ And it chanced, after these things, that one told Abraham, saying, "Behold, Milcah she hath also born children unto thy brother Nahor: ²¹ Uz his eldest son and Buz his brother, and Kemuel the father of the Syrians, ²² and Chesed, and Hazo, and Pildash, and Jidlaph, and Bethuel." ²³ And Bethuel begat Rebekah. These eight did Milcah bear to Nahor, Abraham's brother.

¹⁰ And the servant took ten camels of the camels of his master and departed, and had of all manner goods of his master with him, and stood up and went to Mesopotamia, unto the city of Nahor.

²⁰ And Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah to wife the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian of Mesopotamia and sister to Laban the Syrian.

⁵ Thus Isaac sent forth Jacob, to go to Mesopotamia unto Laban, son of Bethuel the Syrian, and brother to Rebekah, Jacob's and Esau's mother. ⁶ When Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob, and sent him to Mesopotamia, to fetch him a wife thence, and that, as he blessed him he gave him a charge saying 'see thou take not a wife of the daughters of Canaan,' ⁷ and that Jacob had obeyed his father and mother, and was gone unto Mesopotamia:

⁷ And he began his parable, and said, "Balak the king of Moab hath fetched me from Mesopotamia out of the mountains of the east saying, 'Come and curse me Jacob, come and defy me Israel.'

³ For when Israel had sown then came the Midianites, the Amalekites, and they of the east country upon them and pitched their tents against them,

³³ When all the Midianites, the Amalekites and they of the east were gathered together and had gone and pitched in the valley of Jezreel,

¹² And the Midianites, the Amalekites, and all they of the east, lay along in the valley, like unto grasshoppers in multitude, and their camels were without number, even as the sand by the seaside in multitude.

¹⁰ Zebah and Zalmunna were in Karkor and their hosts with them, upon a fifteen thousand, which were all that were left of all the hosts of them of the east. And they that were slain were a hundred and twenty thousand men that drew swords.

³⁰ so that Solomon's wisdom exceeded the wisdom of all them of the East country and all the wisdom of the Egyptians.

³² I will run the way of thy commandments, when thou hast set my heart at liberty.

⁶⁰ I make haste, and prolong not the time, to keep thy commandments.

⁷ Go thou thy way then, eat thy bread with joy, and drink thy wine with gladness, for thy works please God.

¹² Jacob fled into the land of Syria, and Israel served for a wife, and for a wife he kept sheep.
