¹ And the sons of Israel did what was evil in the sight of Jehovah and Jehovah delivered them into the hand of Midian seven years. ² And the hand of Midian prevailed against Israel. And because of Midian the sons of Israel made for themselves the dens which are in the mountains and the caves and the strongholds.
³ And so it was, when Israel had sown, that the Midianites came up and the Amalekites and the sons of the east, they came up against them. ⁴ And they encamped against them and destroyed the increase of the earth, till you come to Gaza and left no sustenance in Israel, neither sheep, nor ox, nor donkey.
⁵ For they came up with their cattle and their tents. They came in as locusts for multitude. Both they and their camels were without number and they came into the land to destroy it.
⁶ And Israel was brought very low because of Midian and the sons of Israel cried to Jehovah. ⁷ And it happened, when the sons of Israel cried to Jehovah because of Midian, ⁸ that Jehovah sent a prophet to the sons of Israel. And he said to them, Jehovah says thus, the God of Israel, I brought you* up from Egypt and brought you* forth out of the house of bondage. ⁹ And I delivered you* out of the hand of the Egyptians and out of the hand of all that oppressed you* and drove them out from before you* and gave you* their land. ¹⁰ And I said to you*, I am Jehovah your* God. You* will not fear the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you* dwell, but you* have not listened to my voice.
¹¹ And the messenger of Jehovah came and sat under the oak which was in Ophrah that pertained to Joash the Abiezrite. And his son Gideon was beating out wheat in the winepress, to hide it from the Midianites. ¹² And the messenger of Jehovah appeared to him and said to him, Jehovah is with you, you mighty man of valor.
¹³ And Gideon said to him, Oh, my lord, if Jehovah is with us, then why has all this befallen us? And where are all his wondrous works which our fathers told us of, saying, Did not Jehovah bring us up from Egypt? But now Jehovah has cast us off and delivered us into the hand of Midian.
¹⁴ And Jehovah looked upon him and said, Go in this your might and save Israel from the hand of Midian. Have I not sent you? ¹⁵ And he said to him, Oh, Lord, with what shall I save Israel? Behold, my family is the poorest in Manasseh and I am the least in my father's house. ¹⁶ And Jehovah said to him, Surely I will be with you and you will kill* the Midianites as one man.
¹⁷ And he said to him, If now I have found favor in your sight, then show me a sign that it is you who talk with me. ¹⁸ I beseech you, do not depart from here, until I come to you and bring forth my present and lay it before you. And he said, I will abide until you come again.
¹⁹ And Gideon went in and made ready a kid and unleavened cakes of an ephah of meal. He put the flesh in a basket and he put the broth in a pot and brought it out to him under the oak and presented it.
²⁰ And the messenger of God said to him, Take the flesh and the unleavened cakes and lay them upon this rock and pour out the broth. And he did so. ²¹ Then the messenger of Jehovah put forth the end of the staff that was in his hand and touched the flesh and the unleavened cakes. And there went up fire out of the rock and consumed the flesh and the unleavened cakes. And the messenger of Jehovah departed out of his sight.
²² And Gideon saw that he was the messenger of Jehovah. And Gideon said, Alas, O lord Jehovah! Inasmuch as I have seen the messenger of Jehovah face to face. ²³ And Jehovah said to him, Peace be to you. Do not fear; you will not die. ²⁴ Then Gideon built an altar there to Jehovah and called it Jehovah-shalom. To this day it is yet in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.
²⁵ And it happened the same night, that Jehovah said to him, Take your father's bullock, even the second bullock seven years old and throw down the altar of Baal that your father has and cut down the Asherah that is by it. ²⁶ And build an altar to Jehovah your God upon the top of this stronghold, in the orderly manner and take the second bullock and offer a burnt offering with the wood of the Asherah which you will cut down. ²⁷ Then Gideon took ten men of his servants and did as Jehovah had spoken to him. And it happened, because he feared his father's household and the men of the city, so that he could not do it by day, that he did it by night.
²⁸ And when the men of the city arose early in the morning, behold, the altar of Baal was broken down and the Asherah was cut down that was by it and the second bullock was offered upon the altar that was built. ²⁹ And they said one to another, Who has done this thing? And when they inquired and asked, they said, Gideon the son of Joash has done this thing.
³⁰ Then the men of the city said to Joash, Bring out your son, that he may die, because he has broken down the altar of Baal and because he has cut down the Asherah that was by it.
³¹ And Joash said to all who stood against him, Will you* contend for Baal? Or will you* save him? He who will contend for him, let him be put to death while it is morning. If he is a god, let him contend for himself because he has broken down his altar.
³² Therefore on that day he called him Jerubbaal, saying, Let Baal contend against him because he has broken down his altar.
³³ Then all the Midianites and the Amalekites and the sons of the east assembled themselves together. And they passed over and encamped in the valley of Jezreel. ³⁴ But the Spirit of Jehovah came upon Gideon and he blew a trumpet and Abiezer was gathered together after him. ³⁵ And he sent messengers throughout all Manasseh and they also were gathered together after him. And he sent messengers to Asher and to Zebulun and to Naphtali and they came up to meet them.
³⁶ And Gideon said to God, If you will save Israel by my hand, as you have spoken, ³⁷ behold, I will put a fleece of wool on the threshing-floor. If there is dew on the fleece only and it is dry upon all the ground, then I will know that you will save Israel by my hand as you have spoken. ³⁸ And it was so, for he rose up early on the morrow and pressed the fleece together and wrung the dew out of the fleece, a bowlful of water.
³⁹ And Gideon said to God, Do not let your anger be kindled against me and I will speak but this once. I beseech you, let me make a trial but this once with the fleece. Let it now be dry only upon the fleece and upon all the ground let there be dew. ⁴⁰ And God did so that night, for it was dry upon the fleece only and there was dew on all the ground.

² And she bore him Zimran and Jokshan and Medan and Midian and Ishbak and Shuah.

¹⁴ But if you* will not listen to me and will not do all these commandments, ¹⁵ and if you* will reject my statutes and if your* soul abhors my ordinances, so that you* will not do all my commandments, but break my covenant, ¹⁶ I also will do this to you*: I will appoint terror over you*, even consumption and fever, that will consume the eyes and make the soul to pine away. And you* will sow your* seed in vain, for your* enemies will eat it. ¹⁷ And I will set my face against you* and you* will be struck before your* enemies. Those who hate you* will rule over you* and you* will flee when no man pursues you*.
¹⁸ And if for these things you* will not yet listen to me, then I will discipline you* seven times more for your* sins. ¹⁹ And I will break the pride of your* power. And I will make your* sky as iron and your* earth as brass, ²⁰ and your* strength will be spent in vain, for your* land will not yield its increase, nor will the trees of the land yield their fruit.
²¹ And if you* walk contrary to me and will not listen to me, I will bring seven times more plagues upon you* according to your* sins. ²² And I will send the beast of the field among you*, which will rob you* of your* sons and destroy your* cattle and make you* few in number and your* ways will become desolate.
²³ And if by these things you* will not be reformed to me, but will walk contrary to me, ²⁴ then I also will walk contrary to you* and I will kill* you*, even I, seven times for your* sins. ²⁵ And I will bring a sword upon you* that will execute the vengeance of the covenant and you* will be gathered together within your* cities. And I will send the pestilence among you* and you* will be delivered into the hand of the enemy. ²⁶ When I break your* staff of bread, ten women will bake your* bread in one oven and they will deliver your* bread again by weight and you* will eat and not be satisfied.
²⁷ And if for all this you* will not listen to me, but walk contrary to me, ²⁸ then I will walk contrary to you* in wrath and I also will discipline you* seven times for your* sins. ²⁹ And you* will eat the flesh of your* sons and the flesh of your* daughters you* will eat. ³⁰ And I will destroy your* high places and cut down your* sun-images and cast your* dead bodies upon the bodies of your* idols and my soul will abhor you*. ³¹ And I will make your* cities a waste and will bring your* sanctuaries to desolation and I will not smell the savor of your* sweet odors. ³² And I will bring the land into desolation and your* enemies who dwell in it will be astonished at it.
³³ And I will scatter you* among the nations and I will draw out the sword after you* and your* land will be a desolation and your* cities will be a waste. ³⁴ Then the land will enjoy its Sabbaths, as long as it lies desolate and you* are in your* enemies' land, even then will the land rest and enjoy its Sabbaths. ³⁵ As long as it lies desolate it will have rest, even the rest which it had not in your* Sabbaths, when you* dwelt upon it.
³⁶ And as for those who are left of you*, I will send a faintness into their heart in the lands of their enemies. And the sound of a driven leaf will chase them and they will flee as a man flees from the sword and they will fall when no man pursues. ³⁷ And they will stumble one upon another, as it were before the sword, when no man pursues. And you* will have no power to stand before your* enemies. ³⁸ And you* will perish among the nations and the land of your* enemies will eat you* up. ³⁹ And those who are left of you* will pine away in their iniquity in your* enemies' lands and also in the iniquities of their fathers they will pine away with them.
⁴⁰ And they will confess their iniquity and the iniquity of their fathers, in their trespass which they trespassed against me and also that, because they walked contrary to me, ⁴¹ I also walked contrary to them and brought them into the land of their enemies. If then their uncircumcised heart be humbled and they then accept of the punishment of their iniquity, ⁴² then I will remember my covenant with Jacob and also my covenant with Isaac and also my covenant with Abraham will I remember and I will remember the land. ⁴³ The land also will be left by them and will enjoy its Sabbaths while it lies desolate without them. And they will accept of the punishment of their iniquity, because, even because they rejected my ordinances and their soul loathed my statutes.
⁴⁴ And yet for all that, when they are in the land of their enemies, I will not reject them, neither will I abhor them, to destroy them utterly and to break my covenant with them, for I am Jehovah their God, ⁴⁵ but for their sakes I will remember the covenant of their ancestors, whom I brought forth out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the nations, that I might be their God. I am Jehovah.
⁴⁶ These are the statutes and ordinances and laws, which Jehovah made between him and the sons of Israel at Mount Sinai by Moses.

¹⁵ And the name of the Midianite woman who was slain was Cozbi, the daughter of Zur. He was head of the people of a fathers' house in Midian.
¹⁶ And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying, ¹⁷ Distress the Midianites and kill* them, ¹⁸ for they distress you* with their wiles, with which they have beguiled you* in the matter of Peor and in the matter of Cozbi, the daughter of the ruler of Midian, their sister, who was slain on the day of the plague in the matter of Peor.

¹ And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying, ² Avenge the sons of Israel of the Midianites. Afterward you will be gathered to your people. ³ And Moses spoke to the people, saying, Arm men from among you* for the war, that they may go against Midian, to execute Jehovah's vengeance on Midian.

¹⁵ But it will happen, if you will not listen to the voice of Jehovah your God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command you this day, that all these curses will come upon you and overtake you:
¹⁶ You will be cursed in the city and you will be cursed in the field. ¹⁷ Your basket and your kneading-trough will be cursed. ¹⁸ The fruit of your body and the fruit of your ground, the increase of your cattle and the young of your flock will be cursed. ¹⁹ You will be cursed when you come in and you be will cursed when you go out. ²⁰ Jehovah will send upon you cursing, confusion and rebuke, in all that you put your hand to do, until you are destroyed and until you perish quickly, because of the evil of your practices, by which you have forsaken me.
²¹ Jehovah will make the pestilence cling to you, until he has consumed you from the land, where you go in to possess it. ²² Jehovah will kill* you with consumption and with fever and with inflammation and with fiery heat and with the sword and with blight and with mildew. And they will pursue you until you perish.
²³ And your sky that is over your head will be brass and the earth that is under you will be iron. ²⁴ Jehovah will make the rain of your land powder and dust. From the sky it will come down upon you, until you are destroyed.
²⁵ Jehovah will cause you to be struck before your enemies. You will go out one way against them and will flee seven ways before them. And you will be tossed to and fro among all the kingdoms of the earth. ²⁶ And your dead body will be food to all birds of the sky and to the beasts of the earth and there will be none to frighten them away.
²⁷ Jehovah will kill* you with the boils of Egypt and with the tumors and with the scurvy and with the itch, of which you cannot be healed.
²⁸ Jehovah will kill* you with madness and with blindness and with confusion of mind, ²⁹ and you will grope at noonday, as the blind man gropes in darkness. And you will not prosper in your ways. And you will only be oppressed and robbed always and there will be none to save you.
³⁰ You will betroth a wife and another man will lie with her. You will build a house and you will not dwell in it. You will plant a vineyard and will not use the fruit of it. ³¹ Your ox will be slain before your eyes and you will not eat of it. Your donkey will be violently taken away from before your face and will not be restored to you. Your sheep will be given to your enemies and you will have none to save you. ³² Your sons and your daughters will be given to another people. And your eyes will look and fail with longing for them all the day and there will be nothing in the power of your hand. ³³ The fruit of your ground and all your labors, will a nation eat up which you do not know. And you will only be oppressed and crushed always, ³⁴ so that you will be mad because of the sight of your eyes which you will see.
³⁵ Jehovah will kill* you in the knees and in the legs, with a sore boil, of which you cannot be healed, from the sole of your foot to the crown of your head.
³⁶ Jehovah will bring you and your king whom you will set over you, to a nation that you have not known, you nor your fathers. And there you will serve other gods, wood and stone. ³⁷ And you will become an astonishment, a proverb and a parable, among all the peoples where Jehovah will lead you away.
³⁸ You will carry much seed out into the field and will gather little in, for the locust will consume it. ³⁹ You will plant vineyards and dress them, but you will neither drink of the wine, nor gather, for the worm will eat them. ⁴⁰ You will have olive trees throughout all your borders, but you will not anoint yourself with the oil, for your olive will drop off. ⁴¹ You will beget sons and daughters, but they will not be your, for they will go into captivity. ⁴² All your trees and the fruit of your ground will the locust possess.
⁴³ The traveler who is in the midst of you will mount up above you higher and higher and you will come down lower and lower. ⁴⁴ He will lend to you and you will not lend to him. He will be the head and you will be the tail.
⁴⁵ And all these curses will come upon you and will pursue you and overtake you, till you are destroyed, because you listened not to the voice of Jehovah your God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which he commanded you, ⁴⁶ and they will be upon you for a sign and for a wonder and upon your seed everlasting. ⁴⁷ Because you served not Jehovah your God with joyfulness and with gladness of heart, by reason of the abundance of all things, ⁴⁸ therefore you will serve your enemies that Jehovah will send against you, in hunger and in thirst and in nakedness and in want of all things. And he will put a yoke of iron upon your neck, until he has destroyed you.
⁴⁹ Jehovah will bring a nation against you from far, from the end of the earth, as the eagle flies, a nation whose tongue you will not understand, ⁵⁰ a nation of fierce countenance, that will not regard the person of the old, nor show favor to the young, ⁵¹ and will eat the fruit of your cattle and the fruit of your ground, until you are destroyed, that also will not leave you grain, new wine, or oil, the increase of your cattle, or the young of your flock, until they have caused you to perish. ⁵² And they will besiege you in all your gates, until your high and fortified walls come down, in which you trusted, throughout all your land. And they will besiege you in all your gates throughout all your land, which Jehovah your God has given you.
⁵³ And you will eat the fruit of your own body, the flesh of your sons and of your daughters, whom Jehovah your God has given you, in the siege and in the distress with which your enemies will distress you. ⁵⁴ The man who is tender among you* and very delicate, his eye will be evil toward his brother and toward the wife of his bosom and toward the remnant of his sons whom he has remaining, ⁵⁵ so that he will not give to any of them of the flesh of his sons whom he will eat, because he has nothing left to him, in the siege and in the distress with which your enemy will distress you in all your gates.
⁵⁶ The tender and delicate woman among you*, who would not adventure to set the sole of her foot upon the ground for delicateness and tenderness, her eye will be evil toward the husband of her bosom and toward her son and toward her daughter, ⁵⁷ and toward her young one who comes out from between her feet and toward her sons whom she will bear, for she will eat them secretly for want of all things, in the siege and in the distress with which your enemy will distress you in your gates.
⁵⁸ If you will not observe to do all the words of this law that are written in this book, that you may fear this glorious and fearful name, JEHOVAH YOUR GOD, ⁵⁹ then Jehovah will make your calamities extraordinary and the calamities of your seed, even great calamities and of long continuance and severe sicknesses and of long continuance.
⁶⁰ And he will bring upon you again all the diseases of Egypt, which you were afraid of and they will cling to you. ⁶¹ Also every sickness and every calamity, which is not written in the book of this law, them Jehovah will bring upon you, until you are destroyed. ⁶² And you* will be left few in number, in that you* were as the stars of heaven for multitude, because you did not listen to the voice of Jehovah your God.
⁶³ And it will happen, that, as Jehovah rejoiced over you* to do you* good and to multiply you*, so Jehovah will rejoice over you* to cause you* to perish and to destroy you*. And you* will be plucked from the land where you go in to possess it.
⁶⁴ And Jehovah will scatter you among all peoples, from the one end of the earth even to the other end of the earth. And you will serve other gods there, which you have not known, you nor your fathers, even wood and stone ones.
⁶⁵ And among these nations you will find no ease and there will be no rest for the sole of your foot, but Jehovah will give you there a trembling heart and failing of eyes and pining of soul. ⁶⁶ And your life will hang in doubt before you and you will fear night and day and will have no assurance of your life. ⁶⁷ In the morning you will say, Would it were evening! and at evening you will say, Would it were morning! for the fear of your heart which you will fear and for the sight of your eyes which you will see. ⁶⁸ And Jehovah will bring you into Egypt again with ships, by the way of which I said to you, You will see it no more again. And there you* will sell yourselves to your* enemies for bondmen and for bondwomen and no man will buy you*.

¹¹ And the sons of Israel did what was evil in the sight of Jehovah and served the Baals.

¹³ And they forsook Jehovah and served Baal and the Ashtaroth.
¹⁴ And the anger of Jehovah was kindled against Israel and he delivered them into the hands of spoilers that despoiled them. And he sold them into the hands of their enemies all around, so that they could not any longer stand before their enemies.

¹⁹ But it happened, when the judge was dead, that they turned back and dealt more corruptly than their fathers, in following other gods to serve them and to bow down to them. They did not cease from their practices, nor from their stubborn way.
²⁰ And the anger of Jehovah was kindled against Israel and he said, Because this nation has transgressed my covenant which I commanded their fathers and has not listened to my voice,

²⁶ Nevertheless they were disobedient and rebelled against you and cast your law behind their back and killed your prophets who testified against them to turn them again to you and they worked great provocations.
²⁷ Therefore you delivered them into the hand of their adversaries, who distressed them. And in the time of their trouble, when they cried to you, you heard from heaven and according to your great mercies you gave them saviors who saved them out of the hand of their adversaries.
²⁸ But after they had rest, they again did evil before you. Therefore you left them in the hand of their enemies, so that they had the dominion over them. Yet when they returned and cried to you, you heard from heaven and many times you delivered them according to your mercies, ²⁹ and testified against them, that you might bring them again to your law. Yet they dealt proudly and did not listen to your commandments, but sinned against your ordinances (which if a man does, he will live in them) and withdrew the shoulder and stiffened their neck and would not hear.

³⁴ They did not destroy the peoples, as Jehovah commanded them, ³⁵ but mingled themselves with the nations and learned their works, ³⁶ and served their idols, which became a snare to them.
³⁷ Yes, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters to demons, ³⁸ and shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan. And the land was polluted with blood.
³⁹ Thus they were defiled with their works and played the prostitute in their practices.
⁴⁰ Therefore the wrath of Jehovah was kindled against his people and he detested his inheritance. ⁴¹ And he gave them into the hand of the nations. And those who hated them, ruled over them. ⁴² Their enemies also oppressed them and they were brought into subjection under their hand.

⁷ I saw the tents of Cushan in affliction. The curtains of the land of Midian trembled.

¹⁷ And I will set my face against you* and you* will be struck before your* enemies. Those who hate you* will rule over you* and you* will flee when no man pursues you*.

⁴⁷ Because you served not Jehovah your God with joyfulness and with gladness of heart, by reason of the abundance of all things, ⁴⁸ therefore you will serve your enemies that Jehovah will send against you, in hunger and in thirst and in nakedness and in want of all things. And he will put a yoke of iron upon your neck, until he has destroyed you.

⁶ When the men of Israel saw that they were in a strait (for the people were distressed), then the people hid themselves in caves and in thickets and in rocks and in coverts and in pits.

¹¹ And both of them disclosed themselves to the garrison of the Philistines. And the Philistines said, Behold, the Hebrews come forth out of the holes where they had hid themselves.

³⁸ (of whom the world was not worthy), wandering in the wildernesses and mountains and caves and the holes of the earth.

¹⁵ And the kings of the earth and the great-men and the commanders and the rich and the strong and every bondservant and free man, hid themselves in the caves and in the rocks of the mountains;

¹ Then Jacob went on his journey and came to the land of the sons of the east.

¹³ And he gathered to him the sons of Ammon and Amalek and he went and killed* Israel and they possessed the city of palm trees.

³³ Then all the Midianites and the Amalekites and the sons of the east assembled themselves together. And they passed over and encamped in the valley of Jezreel.

¹² And the Midianites and the Amalekites and all the sons of the east lay along in the valley like locusts for multitude and their camels were without number, as the sand which is upon the sea-shore for multitude.

¹⁰ Now Zebah and Zalmunna were in Karkor and their armies with them, about fifteen thousand men, all who were left of all the army of the sons of the east, for there fell a hundred and twenty thousand men who drew a sword.

³⁰ And Solomon's wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the sons of the east and all the wisdom of Egypt.

³ His substance also was seven thousand sheep and three thousand camels and five hundred yoke of oxen and five hundred female-donkeys and a very great household, so that this man was the greatest of all the sons of the east.

⁸ then let me sow and let another eat, yes, let the produce of my field be rooted out.

²¹ And they will build houses and inhabit them. And they will plant vineyards and eat the fruit of them. ²² They will not build and another inhabit. They will not plant and another eat. For as the days of a tree will be the days of my people and my chosen will long enjoy the work of their hands.

¹⁵ You will sow, but will not reap, you will tread the olives, but will not anoint you with oil and the vintage, but will not drink the wine.

¹⁹ And the border of the Canaanite was from Sidon, as you go toward Gerar, to Gaza, as you go toward Sodom and Gomorrah and Admah and Zeboiim, to Lasha.

¹⁰ And Lot lifted up his eyes and beheld all the Plain of the Jordan, that it was well watered everywhere ( this was before Jehovah destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah) like the garden of Jehovah, like the land of Egypt, as you go to Zoar.

³⁰ You will betroth a wife and another man will lie with her. You will build a house and you will not dwell in it. ³³ The fruit of your ground and all your labors, will a nation eat up which you do not know. And you will only be oppressed and crushed always,

³ A needy man who oppresses the poor is a sweeping rain which leaves no food.

⁹ If grape-gatherers came to you, would they not leave some gleaning grapes? If thieves by night, would they not destroy till they had enough? ¹⁰ But I have made Esau bare. I have uncovered his secret places and he will not be able to hide himself. His seed is destroyed and his brothers and his neighbors and he is not.

⁵ If thieves came to you, if robbers by night (how you are cut off!), they would not steal only till they had enough? If grape gatherers came to you, would they not leave some gleaning grapes?

²¹ Then Zebah and Zalmunna said, Rise and fall upon us, for as the man is, so is his strength. And Gideon arose and killed Zebah and Zalmunna and took the crescents that were on their camels' necks.

¹⁷ And David killed* them from the twilight even to the evening of the next day. And there escaped not a man of them, except four hundred young men who rode upon camels and fled.

⁴ They have said, Come and let us cut them off from being a nation, that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance.
⁵ Because they have consulted together with one consent. They make a covenant against you: ⁶ the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, Moab and the Hagarites, ⁷ Gebal and Ammon and Amalek, Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre, ⁸ Assyria also is joined with them; they have helped the sons of Lot. Selah.
⁹ Do to them as to Midian, as to Sisera, as to Jabin, at the river Kishon, ¹⁰ who perished at En-dor, who became as manure for the earth. ¹¹ Make their ranking men like Oreb and Zeeb, yes, all their rulers like Zebah and Zalmunna, ¹² who said, Let us take to ourselves in possession the habitations of God.

⁵ I am black, but becoming, O you* daughters of Jerusalem, as the tents of Kedar, as the curtains of Solomon.

²⁰ It will never be inhabited, nor will it be dwelt in from generation to generation. Neither will the Arabian pitch tent there, nor will shepherds make their flocks to lie down there.

⁶ The multitude of camels will cover you. The dromedaries of Midian and Ephah, all those from Sheba will come. They will bring gold and frankincense and will proclaim the praises of Jehovah.

²³ They will cut down her forest, says Jehovah, though it cannot be searched because they are more than the locusts and are innumerable.

²⁹ They will take their tents and their flocks. They will carry away for themselves their curtains and all their vessels and their camels. And they will cry to them, Terror on every side!

³² And their camels will be a booty and the multitude of their cattle a spoil. And I will scatter to all winds those who have the corners of their hair cut off. And I will bring their calamity from every side of them, says Jehovah.

⁹ And when the sons of Israel cried to Jehovah, Jehovah raised up a savior to the sons of Israel, who saved them, even Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother.

¹⁵ But when the sons of Israel cried to Jehovah, Jehovah raised up for them a savior, Ehud the son of Gera, the Benjamite, a left-handed man. And the sons of Israel sent tribute by him to Eglon the king of Moab.

¹⁵ And call upon me in the day of trouble. I will deliver you and you will glorify me.

³⁴ When he killed them, then they inquired after him and they returned and sought God earnestly.

⁴³ Many times he delivered them, but they were rebellious in their counsel and were brought low in their iniquity.
⁴⁴ Nevertheless he regarded their distress when he heard their cry.

¹⁶ Jehovah, in trouble they have visited you, they poured out a prayer when your chastening was upon them.

¹⁷ And they will eat up your harvest and your bread, which your sons and your daughters should eat. They will eat up your flocks and your herds. They will eat up your vines and your fig trees. They will beat down your fortified cities, in which you trust, with the sword.

¹⁵ I will go and return to my place, till they acknowledge their offense and seek my face. In their affliction they will seek me earnestly.

⁴ If Edom says, We are beaten down, but we will return and build the waste places, Jehovah of hosts says thus: They will build, but I will throw down and men will call them the border of wickedness and the people against whom Jehovah has indignation everlasting.

¹ And the messenger of Jehovah came up from Gilgal to Bochim. And he said, I made you* go up out of Egypt and have brought you* to the land which I swore to your* fathers. And I said, I will not break my everlasting covenant with you*. ² And you* will make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land. You* will break down their altars. But you* have not listened to my voice. Why have you* done this?
³ Therefore I also said, I will not drive them out from before you*, but they will be as thorns in your* sides and their gods will be a snare to you*.

⁹ And you saw the affliction of our fathers in Egypt and heard their cry by the Red Sea, ¹⁰ and showed signs and wonders upon Pharaoh and on all his servants and on all the people of his land, for you knew that they dealt proudly against them and got you a name, as it is this day. ¹¹ And you divided the sea before them, so that they went through the midst of the sea on the dry land. And you cast their pursuers into the depths as a stone into the mighty waters. ¹² Moreover in a pillar of cloud you led them by day and in a pillar of fire by night, to give them light in the way in which they should go.

¹⁰ to him who killed* Egypt in their firstborn, because his loving kindness is everlasting,
¹¹ and brought out Israel from among them, because his loving kindness is everlasting,
¹² with a strong hand and with an outstretched arm, because his loving kindness is everlasting,
¹³ to him who divided the Red Sea apart, because loving kindness is everlasting,
¹⁴ and made Israel to pass through the midst of it, because his loving kindness is everlasting,
¹⁵ but overthrew Pharaoh and his army in the Red Sea, because his loving kindness is everlasting,
¹⁶ to him who led his people through the wilderness, because his loving kindness is everlasting,

⁹ In all their affliction he was afflicted and the messenger of his presence saved them. In his love and in his pity he redeemed them. And he bore them and carried them all the days of old.
¹⁰ But they rebelled and grieved his holy Spirit. Therefore he was turned to be their enemy, and himself fought against them.
¹¹ Then he remembered the days of old, Moses and his people, saying, Where is he who brought them up out of the sea with the shepherds of his flock? Where is he who put his holy Spirit in the midst of them, ¹² who caused his glorious arm to go at the right hand of Moses, who divided the waters before them, to make himself an everlasting name, ¹³ who led them through the depths, as a horse in the wilderness, so that they stumbled not? ¹⁴ As the cattle that go down into the valley, the Spirit of Jehovah caused them to rest. So you led your people to make yourself a glorious name.

⁵ and say to them, The lord Jehovah says thus: In the day when I chose Israel and swore to the seed of the house of Jacob and made myself known to them in the land of Egypt, when I swore to them, saying, I am Jehovah your* God, ⁶ I swore to them in that day, to bring them forth out of the land of Egypt into a land that I had searched out for them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the glory of all lands.
⁷ And I said to them, Cast away every man the abominations of his eyes and do not defile yourselves with the idols of Egypt. I am Jehovah your* God. ⁸ But they rebelled against me and would not listen to me. They did not every man cast away the abominations of their eyes, nor did they forsake the idols of Egypt. Then I said I would pour out my wrath upon them, to accomplish my anger against them in the midst of the land of Egypt. ⁹ But I worked for my name's sake (that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations, among which they were, in whose sight I made myself known to them) in bringing them forth out of the land of Egypt.
¹⁰ So I caused them to go forth out of the land of Egypt and brought them into the wilderness. ¹¹ And I gave them my statutes and showed them my ordinances, which if a man does, he will live in them.
¹² Moreover I also gave them my Sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am Jehovah who sanctifies them.
¹³ But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness. They did not walk in my statutes and they rejected my ordinances, which if a man keeps, he will live in them. And they greatly profaned my Sabbaths. Then I said I would pour out my wrath upon them in the wilderness, to consume them. ¹⁴ But I worked for my name's sake, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations, in whose sight I brought them out.
¹⁵ Moreover also I swore to them in the wilderness, that I would not bring them into the land which I had given them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the glory of all lands, ¹⁶ because they rejected my ordinances and did not walk in my statutes and profaned my Sabbaths, for their heart went after their idols. ¹⁷ Nevertheless my eye spared them and I did not destroy them, nor did I make a full end of them in the wilderness.
¹⁸ And I said to their sons in the wilderness, Walk you* not in the statutes of your* fathers. Neither observe their ordinances, nor defile yourselves with their idols. ¹⁹ I am Jehovah your* God. Walk in my statutes and keep my ordinances and do them, ²⁰ and sanctify my Sabbaths and they will be a sign between me and you*, that you* may know that I am Jehovah your* God.
²¹ But the sons rebelled against me. They did not walk in my statutes, nor kept my ordinances to do them, which if a man does, he will live in them. They profaned my Sabbaths. Then I said I would pour out my wrath upon them, to accomplish my anger against them in the wilderness. ²² Nevertheless I withdrew my hand and worked for my name's sake, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations, in whose sight I brought them forth.
²³ Moreover I swore to them in the wilderness, that I would scatter them among the nations and disperse them through the countries, ²⁴ because they had not executed my ordinances, but had rejected my statutes and had profaned my Sabbaths and their eyes were after their fathers' idols.
²⁵ Moreover I also gave them statutes that were not good and ordinances in which they will not live. ²⁶ And I polluted them in their own gifts, in that they caused to pass through the fire all that opens the womb, that I might make them desolate, to the end that they might know that I am Jehovah.
²⁷ Therefore, son of man, speak to the house of Israel and say to them, The lord Jehovah says thus: In this moreover your* fathers have blasphemed me, in that they have committed a trespass against me.
²⁸ For when I had brought them into the land, which I swore to give to them, then they saw every high hill and every thick tree and they offered there their sacrifices and there they presented the provocation of their offering. There also they made their sweet aroma and they poured out there their drink offerings. ²⁹ Then I said to them, What does the high place to which you* go mean? So the name of it is called Bamah to this day.
³⁰ Therefore say to the house of Israel, The lord Jehovah says thus: Do you* pollute yourselves according to the manner of your* fathers and play you* the prostitute according to their abominations? ³¹ And when you* offer your* gifts, when you* make your* sons to pass through the fire, do you* pollute yourselves with all your* idols to this day? And shall I be inquired of by you*, O house of Israel? As I live, says the lord Jehovah, I will not be inquired of by you*.
³² And what comes into your* mind will not be at all, in that you* say, We will be as the nations, as the families of the countries, to serve wood and stone.

² You drove out the nations with your hand, but you planted them. You afflicted the peoples, but you spread them abroad.
³ Because they did not get the land in possession by their own sword, nor did their own arm save them, but your right hand and your arm and the light of your countenance, because you were favorable to them.

² I am Jehovah your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. ³ You will have no other gods before me.

² And you* will make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land. You* will break down their altars. But you* have not listened to my voice. Why have you* done this?

³³ They were afraid of Jehovah and served their own gods, after the manner of the nations from among whom they had been carried away.

³⁵ with whom Jehovah had made a covenant and charged them, saying, You* will not fear other gods, nor bow yourselves to them, nor serve them, nor sacrifice to them. ³⁶ But Jehovah, who brought you* up out of the land of Egypt with great power and with an outstretched arm, him you* will fear and to him you* will bow yourselves and to him you* will sacrifice.
³⁷ And the statutes and the ordinances and the law and the commandment, which he wrote for you*, you* will observe to do forever. And you* will not fear other gods. ³⁸ And the covenant that I have made with you*. You* will not forget. Neither will you* fear other gods, ³⁹ but you* will fear Jehovah your* God and he will deliver you* out of the hand of all your* enemies.

¹³ Neither have I obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined my ear to those who instructed me!

¹³ Only acknowledge your iniquity, that you have transgressed against Jehovah your God and have scattered your ways to the strangers under every green tree and you* have not obeyed my voice, says Jehovah.

²⁵ Let us lie down in our shame and let our confusion cover us, for we have sinned against Jehovah our God, we and our fathers, from our youth even to this day and we have not obeyed the voice of Jehovah our God.

¹³ And Jehovah says, Because they have forsaken my law which I set before them and have not obeyed my voice, nor walked in it,

² Jehovah says thus: Learn not the way of the nations and do not be dismayed at the signs of heaven, for the nations are dismayed at them.

²¹ And I have this day declared it to you*. But you* have not obeyed the voice of Jehovah your* God in anything for which he has sent me to you*.

⁴ So Johanan the son of Kareah and all the captains of the forces and all the people, did not obey the voice of Jehovah, to dwell in the land of Judah.

⁷ and they came into the land of Egypt, for they did not obey the voice of Jehovah. And they came to Tahpanhes.

² She obeyed not the voice. She received not correction. She trusted not in Jehovah. She did not draw near to her God.

¹⁶ But not all obeyed the good-news; for Isaiah says, ‘Lord, who has believed our report?’

⁹ and having been completed, he became the cause of everlasting salvation to all those who are obeying him;

⁷ And the messenger of Jehovah found her by a fountain of water in the wilderness, by the fountain in the way to Shur.

¹⁶ the messenger who has redeemed me from all evil, bless the lads and let my name be named on them and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac and let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth.

² So it was for the rest of the sons of Manasseh according to their families: for the sons of Abiezer and for the sons of Helek and for the sons of Asriel and for the sons of Shechem and for the sons of Hepher and for the sons of Shemida. These were the male children of Manasseh the son of Joseph according to their families.

²³ and Avvim and Parah and Ophrah,

²³ Curse you* Meroz, said the messenger of Jehovah. Curse bitterly the inhabitants of it, because they did not come to the help of Jehovah, to the help of Jehovah against the mighty.

¹⁴ And Jehovah looked upon him and said, Go in this your might and save Israel from the hand of Midian. Have I not sent you? ¹⁵ And he said to him, Oh, Lord, with what shall I save Israel? Behold, my family is the poorest in Manasseh and I am the least in my father's house. ¹⁶ And Jehovah said to him, Surely I will be with you and you will kill* the Midianites as one man.

² And he said to them, What have I now done in comparison with you*? Is not the gleaning of the grapes of Ephraim better than the vintage of Abiezer?

³ And the messenger of Jehovah appeared to the woman and said to her, Behold now, you are barren and do not bear, but you will conceive and bear a son.

¹⁸ And the messenger of Jehovah said to him, Why do you ask after my name, seeing it is wonderful?
¹⁹ So Manoah took the kid with the meal offering and offered it upon the rock to Jehovah. And the messenger did wondrously and Manoah and his wife looked on, ²⁰ for it happened, when the flame went up toward heaven from the altar, that the messenger of Jehovah ascended in the flame of the altar. And Manoah and his wife looked on and they fell on their faces to the ground.

⁹ In all their affliction he was afflicted and the messenger of his presence saved them. In his love and in his pity he redeemed them. And he bore them and carried them all the days of old.

³² And what more should I say? For the time will fail me if I describe the things concerning Gideon, Barak, and both Samson and Jephthah; both David and Samuel, and the prophets:

¹² And he said, I will certainly be with you. And this will be the sign to you, that I have sent you: When you have brought out the people out of Egypt, you* will serve God upon this mountain.

⁵ There will not any man be able to stand before you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not fail you, nor forsake you.

⁹ Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage. Do not be frightened, neither be dismayed, for Jehovah your God is with you wherever you go.

¹⁸ And when Jehovah raised up judges for them, then Jehovah was with the judge and saved them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge. For Jehovah regretted because of their groaning because of those who oppressed them and distressed them.

⁴ And behold, Boaz came from Bethlehem and said to the reapers, Jehovah be with you*. And they answered him, Jehovah bless you.

²³ ‘Behold, the virgin will be pregnant, and will be bearing a son, and they will call his name Immanuel'; which is, after being translated, ‘God with us.’

²⁰ teaching them to observe all things, as many things as I have commanded you, and behold, I am with you all the days until the end of the earth.

¹¹ And a messenger of the Lord appeared to him, standing at the right side of the altar of incense.

²⁸ And the messenger coming to her, said, Hail! She who has been favored. The Lord is with you. You have been blessed among women.

⁹ Now the Lord said to Paul through a vision in the night, Do not be afraid, but speak out and do not be silent, ¹⁰ because I am with you and no one will be laying a hand on you to mistreat you, because there are many people in this city believing in me.

²² And the children struggled together within her. And she said, If it is so, why am I this way? And she went to inquire of Jehovah.

¹⁴ And he said, My presence will go with you and I will give you rest.
¹⁵ And Moses said to him, If your presence do not go, do not carry us up from here. ¹⁶ For how will it now be known that I have found favor in your sight, I and your people? Is it not in that you go with us, so that we are separated, I and your people, from all the people that are upon the face of the earth?

¹⁴ and they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land. They have heard that you Jehovah are in the midst of this people, for you Jehovah are seen face to face and your cloud stands over them and you go before them, in a pillar of cloud by day and in a pillar of fire by night. ¹⁵ Now if you will kill this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of you will speak, saying,

²⁴ even all the nations will say, Why has Jehovah done thus to this land? What is the meaning of the heat of this great anger?

¹⁷ But if your heart turns away and you will not hear, but will be drawn away and worship other gods and serve them, ¹⁸ I declare to you* this day, that you* will surely perish. You* will not prolong your* days in the land where you pass over the Jordan to go in to possess it.

¹⁷ Then my anger will be kindled against them in that day and I will forsake them and I will hide my face from them and they will be devoured and many evils and troubles will come upon them, so that they will say in that day, Have not these evils come upon us because our God is not among us?

² And he went out to meet Asa and said to him, Hear me, Asa and all Judah and Benjamin. Jehovah is with you* while you* are with him. And if you* seek him, he will be found of you*, but if you* forsake him, he will forsake you*.

⁹ Do not hide your face from me. Do not put your servant away in anger. You have been my help. Cast me not off, nor forsake me, O God of my salvation.

¹ We have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us, what work you did in their days, in the days of long-ago.

⁷ Will the Lord cast off everlasting? And will he be favorable no more? ⁸ Has his loving kindness ceased forever? Does his promise come to an end in this generation? ⁹ Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has he shut up his tender mercies in anger? Selah.

³ which we have heard and known and our fathers have told us.
⁴ We will not hide them from their sons, telling to the generation to come the praises of Jehovah and his strength and his wondrous works that he has done.

⁴⁹ Lord, where are your former loving kindnesses, which you swore to David in your faithfulness?

¹⁷ The poor and needy seek water and there is none and their tongue fails for thirst. I, Jehovah, will answer them. I, the God of Israel, will not forsake them.

¹ Behold, Jehovah's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save, nor his ear heavy, that it cannot hear. ² But your* iniquities have separated between you* and your* God and your* sins have hid his face from you* so that he will not hear.

¹⁵ Look down from heaven and behold from the habitation of your holiness and of your glory. Where are your zeal and your mighty acts? The yearning of your heart and your compassions are restrained toward me.

³³ And when this people, or the prophet, or a priest, will ask you, saying, What is the burden of Jehovah? Then you will say to them, What burden?
I will cast you* off, says Jehovah.

³¹ Therefore what will we say to these things? If God is working on our behalf, who is against us?

⁵ There will not any man be able to stand before you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not fail you, nor forsake you. ⁶ Be strong and of good courage, for you will cause this people to inherit the land which I swore to their fathers to give them.
⁷ Only be strong and very courageous to observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded you. Turn not from it, neither to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success wherever you go.
⁸ This book of the law will not depart out of your mouth, but you will meditate on it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it, for then you will make your way prosperous and then you will have good success.
⁹ Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage. Do not be frightened, neither be dismayed, for Jehovah your God is with you wherever you go.

⁶ And she sent and called Barak the son of Abinoam out of Kedesh-naphtali and said to him, Has not Jehovah, the God of Israel, commanded, saying, Go and draw near to Mount Tabor and take with you ten thousand men of the sons of Naphtali and of the sons of Zebulun?

¹¹ And Jehovah sent Jerubbaal and Bedan and Jephthah and Samuel and delivered you* out of the hand of your* enemies on every side and you* dwelt in safety.

⁹ Now the Philistines had come and made a raid in the valley of Rephaim. ¹⁰ And David inquired of God, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? And will you deliver them into my hand? And Jehovah said to him, Go up, for I will deliver them into your hand.

³⁴ quenched the power of fire, fled away from the edge of the sword, were empowered away from weakness, became mighty in war, the encampments of aliens bowed down.

¹⁰ I am not worthy of the least of all the loving kindnesses and of all the truth, which you have shown to your servant, because with my staff I passed over this Jordan and now I have become two companies.

¹¹ And Moses said to God, Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh and that I should bring forth the sons of Israel out of Egypt?

¹⁰ And Moses said to Jehovah, Oh, Lord, I am not a man of words, neither yesterday nor in any time past, nor since you have spoken to your servant, because I am slow of speech and of a slow tongue.

²¹ Moreover you will provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating unjust gain and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties and rulers of tens, ²² and let them judge the people at all seasons. And it will be, that every great matter they will bring to you, but every small matter they will judge themselves. So it will be easier for yourself and they will bear the burden with you.
²³ If you will do this thing and God command you so, then you will be able to endure and all this people also will go to their place in peace.
²⁴ So Moses listened to the voice of his father-in-law and did all that he had said. ²⁵ And Moses chose able men out of all Israel and made them heads over the people, rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties and rulers of tens,

²¹ And Saul answered and said, Am I not a Benjamite, of the smallest of the tribes of Israel? And my family the least of all the families of the tribe of Benjamin? Why then do you speak to me according to this manner?

²³ And Saul's servants spoke those words in the ears of David. And David said, Does it seem to you* a light thing to be the king's son-in-law, seeing that I am a poor man and lightly esteemed?

⁶ Then I said, Ah, lord Jehovah! Behold, I do not know how to speak, for I am a child.

⁴⁵ Therefore hear the counsel of Jehovah, that he has taken against Babylon and his purposes, that he has purposed against the land of the Chaldeans: Surely they will drag them away, even the little ones of the flock. Surely he will make their habitation desolate over them.

² But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, which are little to be among the thousands of Judah, out of you he will come out to me who is to be ruler in Israel, whose goings forth are from long-ago, from the days of everlasting.

³⁴ But Mary said to the messenger, How will this be, since I do not know a man sexually?

⁹ For I am the least of the apostles, who is not sufficient to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the congregation^* of believers of God.

⁸ This grace was given to me the least of all the holy-ones, to proclaim the good-news of the untraceable riches of Christ among the Gentiles;

¹² And the messenger of Jehovah appeared to him and said to him, Jehovah is with you, you mighty man of valor.

¹⁰ Do not fear, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

¹⁴ Do not fear, you worm Jacob and you* men of Israel. I will help you, says Jehovah and your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel. ¹⁵ Behold, I have made you as a new sharp threshing instrument having teeth. You will thresh the mountains and beat them small and will make the hills as chaff. ¹⁶ You will winnow them and the wind will carry them away and the whirlwind will scatter them. And you will rejoice in Jehovah. You will glory in the Holy One of Israel.

²⁰ Now those apostles went forth and preached everywhere, the Lord working together with them, and confirming the word through the signs that followed. Amen.

²¹ And the hand of the Lord was with them and a large number who believed turned to the Lord.

⁸ And he said, O Lord Jehovah, how will I know that I will inherit it? ⁹ And he said to him, Take a heifer three years old for me and a female-goat three years old and a ram three years old and a turtle dove and a young pigeon.
¹⁰ And he took all these for him and divided them in the midst and laid each half opposite the other. But he did not divide the birds. ¹¹ And the birds of prey came down upon the carcasses and Abram drove them away. ¹² And when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram. And behold, a horror of great darkness fell upon him.
¹³ And God said to Abram, Know of a certainty that your seed will be travelers in a land that is not theirs. And your seed will serve them and they will afflict them for four hundred years. ¹⁴ And I will also judge that nation, whom they will serve and afterward they will come out with great substance. ¹⁵ But you will go to your fathers in peace; you will be buried at a good old age. ¹⁶ And they will come here again in the fourth generation, because the iniquity of the Amorite is not yet full. ¹⁷ And it happened, that, when the sun went down and it was dark, behold, there appeared a smoking furnace and a flaming torch that passed between these pieces.

¹ And Moses answered and said, But, behold, they will not believe me, nor listen to my voice, because they will say, Jehovah has not appeared to you.
² And Jehovah said to him, What is that in your hand? And he said, A rod. ³ And he said, Cast it on the ground. And he cast it on the ground. And it became a serpent and Moses fled from before it. ⁴ And Jehovah said to Moses, Put forth your hand and take it by the tail (and he put forth his hand and laid hold of it and it became a rod in his hand), ⁵ that they may believe that Jehovah, the God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob, has appeared to you.
⁶ And Jehovah said furthermore to him, Put now your hand into your bosom. And he put his hand into his bosom. And when he took it out, behold, his hand was leprous, as snow. ⁷ And he said, Put your hand into your bosom again. And he put his hand into his bosom again and when he took it out of his bosom, behold, it was turned again as his other flesh.
⁸ And it will happen, if they will not believe you, nor listen to the voice of the first sign, that they will believe the voice of the latter sign. ⁹ And it will happen, if they will not believe even these two signs, nor listen to your voice, that you will take of the water of the river and pour it upon the dry land. And the water which you take out of the river will become blood upon the dry land.

¹³ Now therefore, I beseech you, if I have found favor in your sight, show me now your ways, that I may know you, to the end that I may find favor in your sight. And consider that this nation is your people.

¹⁶ For how will it now be known that I have found favor in your sight, I and your people? Is it not in that you go with us, so that we are separated, I and your people, from all the people that are upon the face of the earth?

³⁶ And Gideon said to God, If you will save Israel by my hand, as you have spoken, ³⁷ behold, I will put a fleece of wool on the threshing-floor. If there is dew on the fleece only and it is dry upon all the ground, then I will know that you will save Israel by my hand as you have spoken. ³⁸ And it was so, for he rose up early on the morrow and pressed the fleece together and wrung the dew out of the fleece, a bowlful of water.
³⁹ And Gideon said to God, Do not let your anger be kindled against me and I will speak but this once. I beseech you, let me make a trial but this once with the fleece. Let it now be dry only upon the fleece and upon all the ground let there be dew. ⁴⁰ And God did so that night, for it was dry upon the fleece only and there was dew on all the ground.

⁸ And Hezekiah said to Isaiah, What will be the sign that Jehovah will heal me and that I will go up to the house of Jehovah the third day? ⁹ And Isaiah said, This will be the sign to you from Jehovah, that Jehovah will do the thing that he has spoken: Shall the shadow go forward ten steps, or go back ten steps? ¹⁰ And Hezekiah answered, It is a light thing for the shadow to go forward ten steps. No, but let the shadow return backward ten steps. ¹¹ And Isaiah the prophet cried to Jehovah and he brought the shadow ten steps backward, by which it had gone down on the dial of Ahaz.

¹⁷ Show me a sign for good, that those who hate me may see it and be put to shame, because you, Jehovah, have helped me and comforted me.

¹¹ Ask you a sign of Jehovah your God, ask it either in the depth, or in the height above.

⁷ And this will be the sign to you from Jehovah, that Jehovah will do this thing that he has spoken: ⁸ Behold, I will cause the shadow on the steps, which has gone down on the dial of Ahaz with the sun, to return backward ten steps. So the sun returned ten steps on the dial on which it had gone down.

³ and said, My Lord, if I have now found favor in your sight, I beseech you, do not pass away from your servant.

⁵ And I will fetch a morsel of bread and strengthen your* heart. After that, you* will pass on, now that you* came to your* servant. And they said, Do so, as you have said.

⁶ And Abraham hastened into the tent to Sarah and said, Quickly, prepare three measures of fine meal, knead it and make cakes. ⁷ And Abraham ran to the herd and fetched a calf, tender and good and gave it to the servant. And he hastened to dress it. ⁸ And he took butter and milk and the calf which he had dressed and set it before them. And he stood by them under the tree and they ate.

⁴ And when you offer an oblation of a meal offering baked in the oven, it will be unleavened cakes of fine flour mingled with oil, or unleavened wafers anointed with oil.

¹⁵ And Manoah said to the messenger of Jehovah, I beseech you, let us detain you, that we may make ready a kid for you. ¹⁶ And the messenger of Jehovah said to Manoah, Though you detain me, I will not eat of your bread and if you will make ready a burnt offering, you must offer it to Jehovah. For Manoah did not know that he was the messenger of Jehovah.
¹⁷ And Manoah said to the messenger of Jehovah, What is your name, that, when your words happen, we may do you honor? ¹⁸ And the messenger of Jehovah said to him, Why do you ask after my name, seeing it is wonderful?
¹⁹ So Manoah took the kid with the meal offering and offered it upon the rock to Jehovah. And the messenger did wondrously and Manoah and his wife looked on,

²⁴ And there came out fire from before Jehovah and consumed the burnt offering and the fat upon the altar. And when all the people saw it, they shouted and fell on their faces.

²⁰ for it happened, when the flame went up toward heaven from the altar, that the messenger of Jehovah ascended in the flame of the altar. And Manoah and his wife looked on and they fell on their faces to the ground.

³⁸ Then the fire of Jehovah fell and consumed the burnt offering and the wood and the stones and the dust and licked up the water that was in the trench.

²⁶ And David built there an altar to Jehovah and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings and called upon Jehovah. And he answered him from heaven by fire upon the altar of burnt offering.

¹ Now when Solomon had made an end of praying, the fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices. And the glory of Jehovah filled the house.

¹³ And she called the name of Jehovah who spoke to her, You are a God who sees, because she said, Have I even looked behind him, who sees me here?

³⁰ And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel, for, I have seen God face to face and my life is preserved.

²⁴ And you* said, Behold, Jehovah our God has shown us his glory and his greatness and we have heard his voice out of the midst of the fire. We have seen this day that God speaks with man and he lives.

²⁶ For who is there of all flesh, who has heard the voice of the living God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as we have and lived?

²¹ But the messenger of Jehovah appeared no more to Manoah or to his wife. Then Manoah knew that he was the messenger of Jehovah.
²² And Manoah said to his wife, We will surely die, because we have seen God. ²³ But his wife said to him, If Jehovah were pleased to kill us, he would not have received a burnt offering and a meal offering at our hand, neither would he have shown us all these things, nor would at this time have told such things as these.

⁵ Then I said, Woe is me! For I am undone, because I am a man of unclean lips and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips. For my eyes have seen the King, Jehovah of hosts. ⁶ Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from the altar. ⁷ And he touched my mouth with it and said, Behold, this has touched your lips and your iniquity is taken away and your sin forgiven.
⁸ And I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send and who will go for us? Then I said, Behold, send me.

¹⁸ No one has seen God at anytime; the only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, that one has described him.

⁴¹ Isaiah said these things, when he saw his glory, and he spoke concerning him.

²³ And he said, Peace be to you*, do not fear. Your* God and the God of your* father, has given you* treasure in your* sacks. I had your* money.
And he brought Simeon out to them.

⁸ I will hear what God, Jehovah, will speak, Because he will speak peace to his people and to his holy ones. But do not let them turn again to folly.

¹⁹ And he said, O man are a great delight, do not fear. Peace be to you. Be strong, yes, be strong. And when he spoke to me, I was strengthened and said, Let my lord speak, for you have strengthened me.

²⁷ I am leaving peace with you. I am giving my peace to you; not like the world gives, I am giving to you. Let your heart not be disturbed, nor let it be cowardly.

¹⁹ Therefore being evening on that day, the first day of the week, and when the doors had been locked where the disciples were gathered because of fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the middle, and says to them, Peace to you.

⁷ To all those who are in Rome, beloved of God, called holy-ones: grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

¹⁴ And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah-jireh. As it is said to this day, It will be provided in the mountain of Jehovah.

²⁰ And he erected an altar there and called it El-Elohe-Israel.

²⁶ Therefore we said, Let us now prepare to build us an altar, not for burnt offering, nor for sacrifice, ²⁷ but it will be a witness between us and you* and between our generations after us, that we may do the service of Jehovah before him with our burnt offerings and with our sacrifices and with our peace offerings, that your* sons may not say to our sons in time to come, You* have no portion in Jehovah.
²⁸ Therefore we said, It will be, when they so say to us or to our genealogy in time to come, that we will say, Behold the pattern of the altar of Jehovah, which our fathers made, not for burnt offering, nor for sacrifice, but it is a witness between us and you*.

³² And Gideon the son of Joash died in a good old age and was buried in the sepulcher of Joash his father, in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.

⁴ And it happened on the morrow, that the people rose early and built there an altar and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings.

⁶ In his days Judah will be saved and Israel will dwell safely. And this is his name by which he will be called: Jehovah our righteousness.

²³ If you return to the Almighty, you will be built up, you put away unrighteousness far from your tents.

²⁴ No one is able to serve two lords, for either he will hate the one and will love the other; or he will hold to one and will despise the other. You are not able to serve God and ^{F} money.

For you are a temple of the living God; just-as God said, ‘I will be dwelling among them and will be walking among them, and I will be their God and they will be a people to me.’ ¹⁷ Hence ‘Come out from the midst of them and be separate,’says the Lord, ‘And touch no unclean thing, and I will accept you\super\'b0

¹⁸ And Gad came that day to David and said to him, Go up, rear an altar to Jehovah in the threshing-floor of Araunah the Jebusite.

³³ for God is not a God of unrest, but of peace.
As in all the congregations of the holy-ones:

⁴⁰ But let all things happen decently and according to some order.

¹ And now, O Israel, listen to the statutes and to the ordinances, which I teach you*, to do them, that you* may live and go in and possess the land which Jehovah, the God of your* fathers, gives you*.

⁵ It is well with the man who deals graciously and lends. He will maintain his cause in judgment,

²⁴ Then Jesus said to his disciples, If anyone is willing to come after me, let him deny himself and lift up his cross and follow me.

⁹ Therefore I indeed thought in myself, that I ought to do many things adverse to the name of Jesus the Nazarene.

⁶ according to zeal, I was persecuting the congregation of believers; according to the righteousness in the law, I became blameless.

² You will not follow a multitude to do evil, neither will you speak in a case to turn aside after a multitude to distort justice,

⁶ And Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, who were of those who spied out the land, tore their clothes.

⁵ And that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams, will be put to death, because he has spoken rebellion against Jehovah your* God, who brought you* out of the land of Egypt and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, to draw you aside out of the way which Jehovah your God commanded you to walk in. So will you put away the evil from the midst of you.
⁶ If your brother, the son of your mother, or your son, or your daughter, or the wife of your bosom, or your friend, who is as your own soul, entices you secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which you have not known, you, nor your fathers, ⁷ of the gods of the peoples that are all around you*, near to you, or far off from you, from the one end of the earth even to the other end of the earth, ⁸ you will not consent to him, nor listen to him. Neither will your eye pity him, neither will you spare, neither will you conceal him, ⁹ but you will surely kill him. Your hand will be first upon him to put him to death and afterwards the hand of all the people. ¹⁰ And you will stone him to death with stones, because he has sought to draw you away from Jehovah your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
¹¹ And all Israel will hear and fear and will no more do any such wickedness as this is in the midst of you.
¹² If you will hear tell concerning one of your cities, which Jehovah your God gives you to dwell there, saying, ¹³ Certain worthless fellows have gone out from the midst of you and have drawn away the inhabitants of their city, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which you* have not known, ¹⁴ then you will inquire and make search and ask diligently. And behold, if it is true and the thing certain, that such abomination is worked in the midst of you, ¹⁵ you will surely kill* the inhabitants of that city with the edge of the sword, destroying it utterly and all that is in it and the cattle in it, with the edge of the sword. ¹⁶ And you will gather all the spoil of it into the midst of the street of it and will burn the city with fire and all the spoil of it, every whit, to Jehovah your God and it will be a heap everlasting. It will not be built again.
¹⁷ And nothing of the devoted thing will cling to your hand, that Jehovah may turn from the fierceness of his anger and show you mercy and have compassion upon you and multiply you, as he has sworn to your fathers, ¹⁸ when you will listen to the voice of Jehovah your God, to keep all his commandments which I command you this day, to do what is right in the eyes of Jehovah your God.

² If there is found in the midst of you, within any of your gates which Jehovah your God gives you, man or woman, who does what is evil in the sight of Jehovah your God, in transgressing his covenant, ³ and has gone and served other gods and worshiped them, or the sun, or the moon, or any of the host of heaven, which I have not commanded, ⁴ and it is told you and you have heard of it, then will you inquire diligently. And behold, if it is true and the thing certain, that such abomination is worked in Israel, ⁵ then you will bring forth that man or that woman, who has done this evil thing, to your gates, even the man or the woman and you will stone them to death with stones.
⁶ At the mouth of two witnesses, or three witnesses, will he who is to die be put to death. He will not be put to death at the mouth of one witness. ⁷ The hand of the witnesses will be first upon him to put him to death and afterward the hand of all the people. So you will put away the evil from the midst of you.

²⁷ And it happened at noon, that Elijah mocked them and said, Cry aloud, for he is a god. Either he is meditating, or he has gone aside, or he is on a journey, or perhaps he sleeps and must be awakened.

²⁹ And it was so, when midday was past, that they prophesied until the time of the offering of the evening oblation, but there was neither voice, nor any to answer, nor any that regarded.

⁴⁰ and Elijah said to them, Take the prophets of Baal; do not let one of them escape. And they took them and Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon and killed them there.

⁴ Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men's hands. ⁵ They have mouths, but they do not speak. They have eyes, but they do not see. ⁶ They have ears, but they do not hear. They have noses, but they do not smell. ⁷ They have hands, but they do not handle. They have feet, but they do not walk, nor do they speak through their throat.

²³ Declare the things that are to come hereafter, that we may know that you* are gods. Yes, do good, or do evil, that we may be dismayed and behold it together.

¹ Bel bows down, Nebo stoops, their idols are upon the beasts and upon the cattle. The things that you* carried about are made a load, a burden to the weary beast.

⁷ They bear it upon the shoulder. They carry it and set it in its place and it stands. From its place it will not remove. Yes, he may cry to it, yet it cannot answer, nor save him out of his trouble.

⁵ They are like a palm tree, of turned work and do not speak. They must be carried, because they cannot go. Do not be afraid of them, for they cannot do evil, nor is it in them to do good.

¹¹ Thus you* will say to them: The gods that have not made the heavens and the earth, these will perish from the earth and from under the heavens.

⁴ Therefore concerning the food of idol-sacrifices, we know that an idol in the world is nothing and that there is no other God except one.

¹¹ And have no fellowship together with the unfruitful works of darkness, but also rather reprove them;

¹ Then Jerubbaal, who is Gideon and all the people who were with him, rose up early and encamped beside the spring of Harod. And the camp of Midian was on the north side of them, by the hill of Moreh, in the valley.

²¹ Who killed* Abimelech the son of Jerubbesheth? Did not a woman cast an upper millstone upon him from the wall so that he died at Thebez? Why did you* go so near the wall? Then you will say, Your servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also.

¹³ For according to the number of your cities are your gods, O Judah and according to the number of the streets of Jerusalem you* have set up altars to the shameful thing, even altars to burn incense to Baal.

¹⁰ I found Israel like grapes in the wilderness. I saw your* fathers as the first ripe in the fig tree at its first season. But they came to Baal-peor and consecrated themselves to the shameful thing and became abominable like what they loved.

¹⁶ that the waters which came down from above, stood and rose up in one heap a great way off, at Adam, the city that is beside Zarethan and those that went down toward the sea of the Arabah, even the Salt Sea, were entirely cut off. And the people passed over right against Jericho.

²⁴ And Gideon sent messengers throughout all the hill-country of Ephraim, saying, Come down against Midian and take before them the waters, as far as Beth-barah, even the Jordan. So all the men of Ephraim were gathered together and took the waters as far as Beth-barah, even the Jordan.

¹⁰ Now Zebah and Zalmunna were in Karkor and their armies with them, about fifteen thousand men, all who were left of all the army of the sons of the east, for there fell a hundred and twenty thousand men who drew a sword.

⁴⁵ And it happened in a little while, that the heavens grew black with clouds and wind and there was a great rain. And Ahab rode and went to Jezreel.

¹ And it happened after these things, that Naboth the Jezreelite had a vineyard, which was in Jezreel, near by the palace of Ahab king of Samaria.

¹⁹ And they made war with the Hagrites, with Jetur and Naphish and Nodab.

¹ Jehovah, how my adversaries are increased! Many are those who rise up against me.

² When evildoers came upon me to eat up my flesh, even my adversaries and my foes, they stumbled and fell. ³ Though an army should encamp against me, my heart will not fear. Though war should rise against me, even then I will be confident.

¹⁰ All nations encompassed me around. I will cut them off in the name of Jehovah. ¹¹ They encompassed me around, yes, they encompassed me around. I will cut them off in the name of Jehovah. ¹² They encompassed me around like bees. They are quenched as the fire of thorns. I will cut them off in the name of Jehovah.

⁹ Make an uproar, O you* peoples and be broken in pieces. And listen, all you* of far countries. Gird yourselves and be broken in pieces. Gird yourselves and be broken in pieces. ¹⁰ Take counsel together and it will be brought to nothing. Speak the word and it will not stand, for God is with us.

³⁵ Who will be separating us away from the love of Christ? Shall affliction or distress or persecution or famine or nakedness or peril or sword? ³⁶ Just-as it has been written, ‘Because of you we are slain the whole day. We were counted as sheep of the slaughter.’ ³⁷ But we are victorious in all these things through the one who loved us. ³⁸ For I have confidence, that neither death, nor life, nor messengers, nor principalities, nor powers, nor present things, nor future things, ³⁹ nor height, nor depth, nor some other created thing, will be able to separate us away from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

³ And when they will blow them, all the congregation will gather themselves to you at the door of the tent of meeting.

¹⁰ And the Spirit of Jehovah came upon him and he judged Israel. And he went out to war and Jehovah delivered Cushan-rishathaim king of Mesopotamia into his hand and his hand prevailed against Cushan-rishathaim.

²⁷ And it happened, when he came, that he blew a trumpet in the hill-country of Ephraim. And the sons of Israel went down with him from the hill-country and he before them.

¹¹ And the messenger of Jehovah came and sat under the oak which was in Ophrah that pertained to Joash the Abiezrite. And his son Gideon was beating out wheat in the winepress, to hide it from the Midianites.

²⁵ And the Spirit of Jehovah began to move him in Mahaneh-dan, between Zorah and Eshtaol.

¹⁹ And the Spirit of Jehovah came mightily upon him and he went down to Ashkelon and killed* thirty men of them and took their spoil and gave the changes of garments to those who declared the riddle. And his anger was kindled and he went up to his father's house.

¹⁴ When he came to Lehi, the Philistines shouted as they met him. And the Spirit of Jehovah came mightily upon him and the ropes that were upon his arms became as flax that was burnt with fire and his bands dropped from his hands.

⁶ And the Spirit of Jehovah will come mightily upon you and you will prophesy with them and will be turned into another man.

⁶ And the Spirit of God came mightily upon Saul when he heard those words and his anger was greatly kindled.

¹⁴ Now the Spirit of Jehovah departed from Saul and an evil spirit from Jehovah troubled him.

¹⁸ Then the Spirit came upon Amasai, who was chief of the thirty, and he said, We are yours, David and on your side, you son of Jesse. Peace, peace be to you and peace be to your helpers, for your God helps you. Then David received them and made them captains of the band.

²⁰ And the Spirit of God came upon Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest. And he stood above the people and said to them, Thus says God, Why do you* transgress the commandments of Jehovah, so that you* cannot prosper? Because you* have forsaken Jehovah, he has also forsaken you*.

¹¹ Cast me not away from your presence and take not your holy Spirit from me.

¹⁴ But clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not practice forethought for the lusts of the flesh.

⁸ for the word of wisdom is given to one through the Spirit, and the word of knowledge to another according to the same Spirit; ⁹ and miraculous faith to different one in the same Spirit; and gifts of healing to another in the same Spirit; ¹⁰ and workings of miracles to another; and prophecy to another; and the discernings of spirits to another; varieties of languages to a different one; and the translation of foreign languages to another; ¹¹ but the one and the same Spirit is working all these things, sectioning off to each one in his own way just-as he wills.

²⁷ For as many as were immersed into Christ were clothed with Christ.

⁶ So the posts went with the letters from the king and his rulers throughout all Israel and Judah and according to the commandment of the king, saying, You* sons of Israel, turn again to Jehovah, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, that he may return to the remnant of you* who escaped out of the hand of the kings of Assyria. ⁷ And be you* not like your* fathers and like your* brothers, who trespassed against Jehovah, the God of their fathers, so that he gave them up to desolation, as you* see.
⁸ Now be you* not stiff-necked, as your* fathers were, but yield yourselves to Jehovah and enter into his sanctuary, which he has made holy everlasting and serve Jehovah your* God, that his fierce anger may turn away from you*. ⁹ For if you* turn again to Jehovah, your* brothers and your* sons will find compassion before those who led them captive and will come again into this land. For Jehovah your* God is gracious and merciful and will not turn away his face from you*, if you* return to him.
¹⁰ So the posts passed from city to city through the country of Ephraim and Manasseh, even to Zebulun. But they laughed them to scorn and mocked them.
¹¹ Nevertheless certain men of Asher and Manasseh and of Zebulun humbled themselves and came to Jerusalem. ¹² Also the hand of God came upon Judah to give them one heart, to do the commandment of the king and of the rulers by the word of Jehovah.

¹⁴ And Jehovah looked upon him and said, Go in this your might and save Israel from the hand of Midian. Have I not sent you?

¹⁷ And he said to him, If now I have found favor in your sight, then show me a sign that it is you who talk with me. ¹⁸ I beseech you, do not depart from here, until I come to you and bring forth my present and lay it before you. And he said, I will abide until you come again.
¹⁹ And Gideon went in and made ready a kid and unleavened cakes of an ephah of meal. He put the flesh in a basket and he put the broth in a pot and brought it out to him under the oak and presented it.
²⁰ And the messenger of God said to him, Take the flesh and the unleavened cakes and lay them upon this rock and pour out the broth. And he did so.

⁹ And Isaiah said, This will be the sign to you from Jehovah, that Jehovah will do the thing that he has spoken: Shall the shadow go forward ten steps, or go back ten steps?

¹³ Like as a father pities his sons, So Jehovah pities those who fear him. ¹⁴ Because he knows our frame. He remembers that we are dust.

¹ And the Pharisees and Sadducees came, testing him, and asked him to show them a sign from heaven.

² My doctrine will drop as the rain. My speech will flow as the dew, as the small rain upon the tender grass and as the showers upon the herb.

⁶ He will come down like rain upon the mowed grass, as showers that water the earth.

¹⁹ He shows his word to Jacob, his statutes and his ordinances to Israel. ²⁰ He has not dealt so with any nation. And as for his ordinances, they have not known them.
Praise Jehovah.

³ And let us know, let us follow on to know Jehovah. His going forth is sure as the morning and he will come to us as the rain, as the latter rain that waters the earth.
⁴ O Ephraim, what shall I do to you? O Judah, what shall I do to you? For your* goodness is as a morning cloud and as the dew that goes away early.

⁵ I will be as the dew to Israel. He will blossom as the lily and cast forth his roots as Lebanon.

⁵ Jesus sent forth these twelve apostles and commanded them, saying, Do not go into any road of the Gentiles and do not enter into any city of the Samaritans; ⁶ but travel rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

²⁴ But he answered and said, I was not sent, except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

⁷ And the glowing sand will become a pool and the thirsty ground springs of water. In the habitation of jackals, where they lay, will be grass with reeds and rushes.

³² And he said, Oh let the Lord not be furious and I will speak yet but this once. Perhaps ten will be found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for the ten's sake.

³³ He turns rivers into a wilderness and water springs into a thirsty ground, ³⁴ a fruitful land into a salt desert, for the wickedness of those who dwell in it.
³⁵ He turns a wilderness into a pool of water and a dry land into water springs.

⁶ Then the lame man will leap as a male-deer and the tongue of the mute will sing. For waters in the wilderness will break out and streams in the desert. ⁷ And the glowing sand will become a pool and the thirsty ground springs of water. In the habitation of jackals, where they lay, will be grass with reeds and rushes.

¹⁹ Behold, I will do a new thing. Now it will spring forth. Shall you* not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.
²⁰ The beasts of the field will honor me, the jackals and the ostriches, because I give waters in the wilderness and rivers in the desert, to give drink to my people, my chosen,

² Why, when I came, was there no man? When I called, was there none to answer? Is my hand shortened at all, that it cannot redeem? Or have I no power to deliver? Behold, at my rebuke I dry up the sea. I make the rivers a wilderness. Their fish stink because there is no water and die for thirst.

¹² but the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into the outer darkness–the weeping and the gnashing of teeth will be there.

⁴³ Because of this, I am saying to you, The kingdom of God will be taken away from you, and will be given to a nation producing the fruits of it.

⁴⁶ But Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first be spoken to you. But since you are thrusting it away from yourselves and are judging yourselves unworthy of everlasting life. Behold, we turn to the Gentiles.

²¹ And he said to me, Travel on, because I will be sending you forth to the Gentiles who are afar.

²⁸ Therefore let it be known to you, that this salvation from God is sent to the Gentiles and they will be hearing it.

¹² Now if their trespass is the riches of the world and their loss is the riches of the Gentiles; how much more is their fullness? ¹³ For I speak to you who are Gentiles, inasmuch as I am indeed an apostle of Gentiles, I glorify my service; ¹⁴ if somehow I provoke to jealousy those who are my flesh and might save some out of them. ¹⁵ For if the casting away of them is the reconciliation of the world, what is the receiving of them, except life from the dead?
¹⁶ Now if the first-fruit is holy, also is the batch and if the root is holy, also are the branches. ¹⁷ But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive, were grafted in among them and became a fellow partner of the root and of the plumpness of the olive tree among them. ¹⁸ Do not boast against the branches, but if you are boasting against them, you are not bearing the root, but the root bears you. ¹⁹ Therefore you will say, Branches were broken off, in order that I might be grafted in. ²⁰ Well; they were broken off in their unbelief but you are standing in the faith. Do not be cavalier, but fear; ²¹ for if God did not spare the natural branches, lest neither will he be sparing you. ²² Therefore, behold the kindness and severity of God, indeed severity upon those who fell, but kindness upon you, if you remain in the kindness of God : otherwise you also will be cut off.
