MLV(i)
And he said, O Lord Jehovah, how will I know that I will inherit it?
And he said to him, Take a heifer three years old for me and a female-goat three years old and a ram three years old and a turtle dove and a young pigeon.
And he took all these for him and divided them in the midst and laid each half opposite the other. But he did not divide the birds. 11 And the birds of prey came down upon the carcasses and Abram drove them away. 12 And when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram. And behold, a horror of great darkness fell upon him.
And God said to Abram, Know of a certainty that your seed will be travelers in a land that is not theirs. And your seed will serve them and they will afflict them for four hundred years. 14 And I will also judge that nation, whom they will serve and afterward they will come out with great substance. 15 But you will go to your fathers in peace; you will be buried at a good old age. 16 And they will come here again in the fourth generation, because the iniquity of the Amorite is not yet full. 17 And it happened, that, when the sun went down and it was dark, behold, there appeared a smoking furnace and a flaming torch that passed between these pieces.
