John 4 Cross References - MLV

1 Therefore as the Lord knew that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus is making and immersing more disciples than John, 2 (although Jesus himself was not immersing, but his disciples did), 3 he left Judea and went away into Galilee.
4 Now it was essential for him to go through Samaria.

5 So he comes to a city of Samaria, called Sychar, close to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph, 6 and Jacob’s well was there. Therefore, Jesus, being fatigued from his journey, was sitting thus upon the well. It was approximately the sixth hour. 7 A woman from Samaria comes to dip-out water. Jesus says to her, Give to me some water to drink. 8 For his disciples had gone away into the city, in order that they might buy nourishment.
9 Therefore the Samaritan woman says to him, How is it that you, being a Jew, ask a drink from me, who is a Samaritan woman? (For Jews have no dealings together with Samaritans.)
10 Jesus answered and said to her, If you knew the gift of God and who it is that says to you, Give to me some water to drink; you would have asked him, and he would have given living water to you.
11 The woman says to him, Lord, you have no bucket and the well is deep. Therefore from where do you have the living water? 12 You are not greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank out of it himself and his sons and his livestock, are you?
13 Jesus answered and said to her, Everyone who drinks from this water will be thirsty again 14 but whoever is drinking from the water that I will be giving him may never be thirsty, but the water that I will be giving him will become in him a well of water leaping up to everlasting life.
15 The woman says to him, Lord, give this water to me, in order that I may not be thirsty, nor come here to dip-out water. 16 Jesus says to her, Go, summon your husband, and come here.
17 The woman answered and said, I have no husband.
Jesus says to her, You said well, I have no husband, 18 for you had five husbands, and he whom you have now is not your husband. You have said this, a true thing.
19 The woman says to him, Lord, I view that you are a prophet. 20 Our fathers worshiped in this mountain, and you Jews say, that in Jerusalem is the place where it is essential to worship.
21 Jesus says to her, Woman, believe me, the hour is coming, when you will be worshiping the Father, neither in this mountain, nor in Jerusalem. 22 You worship what you do not know. We worship what we know, because salvation is from the Jews. 23 But the hour is coming and now is, when the true worshipers will be worshiping the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father also is seeking such who are worshiping him. 24 God is a Spirit, and it is essential for those who are worshiping him to worship in spirit and truth.
25 The woman says to him, I know that the Messiah is coming (he who is called Christ). Whenever he comes, that man will be proclaiming all things to us.
26 Jesus says to her, I am he, who is speaking to you.
27 And his disciples came upon this, and marveled that he was speaking with a woman; nevertheless, no one said, What are you seeking? Or, Why are you speaking with her?
28 So the woman left her water pot and went away into the city, and says to the men, 29 Come-here. Behold, a man who told me all things, as many things as I have done. This is not the Christ, is it? 30 They went out of the city and were coming toward him.
31 But in the time in between, the disciples requested him, saying, Rabbi, eat.
32 But he said to them, I have food to eat which you do not know.
33 Therefore the disciples were saying to one another, Someone did not bring him anything to eat, did they?
34 Jesus says to them, My food is that I should be doing the will of the one who sent me, and should complete his work. 35 Do you not say, There are still four months and then the harvest comes. Behold, I am saying to you, Lift up your eyes and look at the farmlands, because they are already white for the harvest. 36 And he who is reaping receives wages and gathers fruit to everlasting life; in order that he who is sowing and he who is reaping may rejoice also in unison. 37 For the true word is in this, Another is he who is sowing and another is he who is reaping. 38 I sent you to reap what you have not labored; others have labored, and you have entered into their labor.
39 Now many out of the Samaritans from that city believed in him, because of the word of the woman, who was testifying, He told me all things, as many things as I have done. 40 Therefore, as the Samaritans came to him, they requested him to abide with them, and he remained there two days. 41 And many more believed because of his word; 42 and they were saying to the woman, We believe no longer because of your speech; for we have heard for ourselves, and know that this is truly the Savior of the world, the Christ.
43 Now after the two days, he went forth from there and went into Galilee. 44 For Jesus himself testified, that a prophet has no honor in his own fatherland.

45 So when he came into Galilee, the Galileans accepted him, having seen all the things which he did in Jerusalem at the feast; for they had also gone to the feast.

46 Therefore, Jesus came again to Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick in Capernaum. 47 Having heard that Jesus is coming out of Judea into Galilee, he went toward him, and asked him in order that he might come down and might heal his son; for he was about to die. 48 Therefore Jesus said to him, If you do not see signs and wonders, you may never believe.
49 The nobleman says to him, Lord, come down here before my child dies.
50 Jesus says to him, Travel on; your son lives.
And the man believed the word in which Jesus spoke to him, and he was traveling on.
51 Now already while going down, his bondservants encountered him and reported, saying that his boy lives. 52 Therefore, he inquired from them the hour in which he had improved. And they said to him, The fever left him yesterday in the seventh hour. 53 Therefore the father knew that it was in that hour in which Jesus said to him, Your son lives. And he himself, and his whole house believed. 54 This is again the second sign that Jesus did, having come out of Judea into Galilee.

2 Kings 17:24-41

24 And the king of Assyria brought men from Babylon and from Cuthah and from Avva and from Hamath and Sepharvaim and placed them in the cities of Samaria instead of the sons of Israel. And they possessed Samaria and dwelt in the cities of it.
25 And so it was, at the beginning of their dwelling there, that they were not afraid of Jehovah. Therefore Jehovah sent lions among them, which killed some of them. 26 Therefore they spoke to the king of Assyria, saying, The nations which you have carried away and placed in the cities of Samaria do not know the law of the god of the land. Therefore he has sent lions among them, and behold, they kill them, because they do not know the law of the god of the land.
27 Then the king of Assyria commanded, saying, Carry there one of the priests whom you* brought from there and let them go and dwell there. And let him teach them the law of the god of the land. 28 So one of the priests whom they had carried away from Samaria came and dwelt in Bethel and taught them how they should fear Jehovah.
29 However every nation made gods of their own and put them in the houses of the high places which the Samaritans had made, every nation in their cities in which they dwelt. 30 And the men of Babylon made Succoth-benoth and the men of Cuth made Nergal and the men of Hamath made Ashima, 31 and the Avites made Nibhaz and Tartak. And the Sepharvites burnt their sons in the fire to Adrammelech and Anammelech, the gods of Sepharvaim.
32 So they were afraid of Jehovah and made for them priests of the high places from among themselves, who sacrificed for them in the houses of the high places. 33 They were afraid of Jehovah and served their own gods, after the manner of the nations from among whom they had been carried away. 34 To this day they do after the former manner. They do not fear Jehovah, neither do they after their statutes, or after their ordinances, or after the law or after the commandment which Jehovah commanded the sons of Jacob, whom he named Israel, 35 with whom Jehovah had made a covenant and charged them, saying, You* will not fear other gods, nor bow yourselves to them, nor serve them, nor sacrifice to them. 36 But Jehovah, who brought you* up out of the land of Egypt with great power and with an outstretched arm, him you* will fear and to him you* will bow yourselves and to him you* will sacrifice.
37 And the statutes and the ordinances and the law and the commandment, which he wrote for you*, you* will observe to do forever. And you* will not fear other gods. 38 And the covenant that I have made with you*. You* will not forget. Neither will you* fear other gods, 39 but you* will fear Jehovah your* God and he will deliver you* out of the hand of all your* enemies.
40 However they did not listen, but they did after their former manner. 41 So these nations were afraid of Jehovah and served their graven images, their sons likewise and their son's sons, as did their fathers, so do they to this day.

Ezra 4:1-24

1 Now when the adversaries of Judah and Benjamin heard that the sons of the captivity were building a temple to Jehovah, the God of Israel, 2 then they drew near to Zerubbabel and to the heads of fathers and said to them, Let us build with you*, for we seek your* God, as you* do and we sacrifice to him since the days of Esarhaddon king of Assyria who brought us up here.
3 But Zerubbabel and Jeshua and the rest of the heads of fathers of Israel, said to them, You* have nothing to do with us in building a house to our God, but we ourselves together will build to Jehovah, the God of Israel, as king Cyrus the king of Persia has commanded us.
4 Then the people of the land weakened the hands of the people of Judah and troubled them in building, 5 and hired counselors against them to frustrate their purpose all the days of Cyrus king of Persia, even until the reign of Darius king of Persia. 6 And in the reign of Ahasuerus, in the beginning of his reign, they wrote an accusation against the inhabitants of Judah and Jerusalem.
7 And in the days of Artaxerxes, Bishlam, Mithredath, Tabeel and the rest of his companions, wrote to Artaxerxes king of Persia. And the writing of the letter was written in the Syrian character and set forth in the Syrian tongue. 8 Rehum the chancellor and Shimshai the scribe wrote a letter against Jerusalem to Artaxerxes the king in this way.
9 Then wrote Rehum the chancellor and Shimshai the scribe and the rest of their companions, the Dinaites and the Apharsathchites, the men of Erech, the Babylonians, the men of Susa, (that is the Elamites), 10 and the rest of the nations whom the great and noble Osnappar brought over and set in the city of Samaria and in the rest beyond the River and so forth.
11 This is a copy of the letter that they sent to Artaxerxes the king:
Your servants the men beyond the River and so forth. 12 Be it known to the king, that the Jews who came up from you have come to us to Jerusalem. They are building the rebellious and the evil city and have finished the walls and repaired the foundations. 13 Be it known now to the king, that, if this city be built and the walls finished, they will not pay tribute, custom, or toll and in the end it will be hurtful to the kings.
14 Now because we eat the salt of the palace and it is not fitting for us to see the king's dishonor, therefore we have sent and certified to the king, 15 that search may be made in the book of the records of your fathers. So you will find in the book of the records and know that this city is a rebellious city and hurtful to kings and provinces. And that they have made sedition within the same of old time, for which cause this city was laid waste.
16 We certify to the king that, if this city be built and the walls finished, by this means you will have no portion beyond the River.
17 Then the king sent an answer to Rehum the chancellor and to Shimshai the scribe and to the rest of their companions who dwell in Samaria and in the rest beyond the River:
Peace and so forth. 18 The letter which you* sent to us has been plainly read before me. 19 And I decreed and search has been made. And it is found that this city of old time has made insurrection against kings and that rebellion and sedition have been made in it. 20 There have also been mighty kings over Jerusalem who have ruled over all the country beyond the River and tribute, custom and toll, was paid to them.
21 You* make now a decree to cause these men to cease and that this city not be built until a decree will be made by me. 22 And take heed that you* are not slack in this matter. Why should damage grow to the hurt of the kings?
23 Then when the copy of king Artaxerxes' letter was read before Rehum and Shimshai the scribe and their companions, they went in haste to Jerusalem to the Jews and made them cease by force and power. 24 Then the work of the house of God which is at Jerusalem ceased and it ceased until the second year of the reign of Darius king of Persia.

1 But it happened that, when Sanballat heard that we were building the wall, he was angry and took great indignation and mocked the Jews. 2 And he spoke before his brothers and the army of Samaria and said, What are these feeble Jews doing? 2 Then he brought me out by the way of the gate northward and led me round by the way outside to the outer gate, by the way of the gate that looks toward the east. And behold, waters ran out on the right side.
3 When the man went forth eastward with the line in his hand, he measured a thousand cubits and he caused me to pass through the waters, waters that were to the ankles. 4 Again he measured a thousand and caused me to pass through the waters, waters that were to the knees. Again he measured a thousand and caused me to pass through the waters, waters that were to the loins. 5 Afterward he measured a thousand and it was a river that I could not pass through, for the waters have risen, waters to swim in, a river that could not be passed through. 6 And he said to me, Son of man, have you seen this?
