⁹ And David said to Saul, Why do you listen to men's words, saying, Behold, David seeks your hurt?

¹⁶ You will not go up and down as a gossiper among your people, neither will you stand against the blood of your neighbor. I am Jehovah.

¹⁹ Now therefore, I beseech you, let my lord the king hear the words of his servant. If it is Jehovah who has stirred you up against me, let him accept an offering, but if it is the sons of men, cursed be they before Jehovah. For they have driven me out this day that I should not cling to the inheritance of Jehovah, saying, Go, serve other gods.

⁵ He who slanders his neighbor secretly, I will destroy him. He who has a high look and a proud heart I will not endure.

⁶ Their judges are thrown down by the sides of the rock. And they will hear my words, because they are sweet.

²⁸ A perverse man scatters abroad strife and a whisperer separates chief friends.

⁴ An evildoer gives heed to wicked lips. A liar listens to a mischievous tongue.

⁸ The words of a whisperer are as dainty morsels and they go down into the innermost parts.

²³ The north wind brings forth rain. So does a backbiting tongue, an indignant countenance.

²⁰ For lack of wood the fire goes out and where there is no whisperer, contention ceases.
²¹ As coals are to hot embers and wood to fire, so is a contentious man to inflame strife.
²² The words of a whisperer are as dainty morsels and they go down into the innermost parts.

²⁸ A lying tongue hates those whom it has wounded and a flattering mouth works ruin.

¹² If a ruler listens to falsehood, all his servants are wicked.

²¹ Also do not take heed to all words that are spoken, lest you hear your servant curse you. ²² Because also your own heart knows many times that you yourself likewise have cursed others.

⁶ And the tongue is a fire, the world of unrighteousness. Thus the tongue is designated among our members as what stains the whole body and ignites the birth cycle and is ignited by hell.
