¹⁴ The murderer rising with the light kills the poor and needy, and in the night he is a thief.

¹⁴ And it happened in the morning David wrote a letter to Joab, and sent it by the hand of Uriah. ¹⁵ And he wrote in the letter, saying, Place Uriah in the front of the strongest fighting, and withdraw from him, that he may be struck, and die. ¹⁶ And it happened, as Joab watched the city, that he sent Uriah to the place where he knew would be mighty men. ¹⁷ And the men of the city went out and fought with Joab, and some of the people fell of David's servants. And Uriah the Hittite also died.

⁸ He sits in the hiding places of the villages; in the secret places he murders the innocent; his eyes watch against the poor. ⁹ He lies in wait secretly like a lion in his den; he lies in ambush to catch the poor; he seizes the poor, drawing him into his net; ¹⁰ and being crushed, he bows; and the poor have fallen by his strong ones.

¹ Woe to those plotting wickedness and preparing evil on their beds! In the light of the morning they practice it, because it is in the power of their hand. ² And they covet and seize fields and houses, and carry them away. And they oppress a man and his household, even a man and his inheritance.

³⁹ But know this, that if the house-master had known the hour the thief is coming, he would have watched and would not have allowed his house to be dug through.

⁷ Then do not be partners with them; ⁸ for you then were darkness, but now light in the Lord; walk as children of light. ⁹ For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth, ¹⁰ proving what is pleasing to the Lord. ¹¹ And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather even reprove them .

² For you yourselves know accurately the day of the Lord comes as a thief in the night.

³ Then remember how you received and heard, and keep, and repent. If, then, you do not watch, I will come upon you like a thief and you will not at all know what hour I come upon you.
