A woman comes to meet him with the garment of a prostitute* and _⌊a secret heart_⌋.* ¹¹ She is loud and stubborn; her feet do not stay at her house. ¹² Now in the street, now in the square, _⌊at_⌋* every corner she lies in wait. ¹³ She took hold of * him and kissed him. Her face was impudent, and she said to him, ¹⁴ "Sacrifices of peace offerings are upon me; _⌊today_⌋* I completed my vows. ¹⁵ So* I have come out to meet you, to seek your face, and I have found you. ¹⁶ With coverings I have adorned my couch, spreads of the linen of Egypt; ¹⁷ I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon. ¹⁸ Come, let us take our fill of love making, until the morning let us delight in love. ¹⁹ For there is no man* in his home; he has gone on a _⌊long journey_⌋.* ²⁰ The bag of money he took in his hand, for on the day of the full moon he will come home." ²¹ She persuades him with the greatness of her teachings; with her smooth lips she compels him. ²² He goes after her suddenly; like an ox to the slaughter he goes, and like a stag to the instruction of a fool, ²³ until an arrow pierces his _⌊entrails_⌋,* like a bird rushing into a snare, but he does not know that _⌊it will cost him his life_⌋.* ²⁴ And now, my children, listen to me, and be attentive to the sayings of my mouth. ²⁵ May your heart not turn aside to her ways; do not stray into her path. ²⁶ For many slain she has laid low, and countless* are all of her killings. ²⁷ The ways of Sheol* are her house, descending to chambers of death.

²⁸ and the curse, if you do not listen to the commandments of Yahweh your God, but rather you turn from the way that I am commanding you _⌊today_⌋* to go after other gods that you have not known.

²² Please receive instruction from his mouth, and place his words in your heart.

⁸ My child, may you keep* your father's instruction, and do not reject your mother's teachings,

¹ My child, if you will receive* my sayings, and hide my commands with you, ² in order to incline your ear toward wisdom, then you shall apply your heart to understanding. ³ For if you cry out for understanding,* if you lift* your voice for insight, ⁴ if you seek her like silver and search her out _⌊like treasure_⌋,* ⁵ then you will understand the fear of Yahweh, and the knowledge of God you will find. ⁶ For Yahweh will give wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. ⁷ For the upright, he stores* sound judgment, a shield for those who walk uprightly,

¹ My child, do not forget my instruction, and may your heart guard my commands.

¹⁴ Those who are wise lay up knowledge, but to the mouth of the fool, ruin draws near.

¹⁵ But the seed on the good soil—these are the ones who, after* hearing the word, hold fast to it* with a noble and good heart, and bear fruit with patient endurance.

²⁸ But he said, "On the contrary, blessed are those who hear the word of God and follow it!"*

²³ Jesus answered and said to him, "If anyone loves me he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and _⌊will take up residence with him_⌋.*

²⁰ Remember the word that I said to you: 'A slave is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will keep yours also.

³ Blessed is the one who reads aloud and blessed are* those who hear the words of the prophecy and observe the things written in it, because the time is near!

⁹ And he said to me, "_⌊Do not do that!_⌋* I am your fellow slave, and of your brothers the prophets, and of those who keep the words of this book. Worship God!"

⁵ And you shall observe* my statutes and my regulations _⌊by which the person doing them shall live_⌋;* I am Yahweh.

⁸ For thus said Yahweh of hosts, after glory* he sent me against the nations plundering you: Truly, the one touching you is touching the apple* of his eye.

⁴⁹ For I have not spoken from myself, but the Father himself who sent me _⌊has commanded me_⌋* what I should say and what I should speak. ⁵⁰ And I know that his commandment is eternal life. So the things that I say, just as the Father said to me, thus I say."

²¹ The one who has my commandments and keeps them—that one is the one who loves me. And the one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and will reveal myself to him."

³ And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments. ⁴ The one who says "I have come to know him," and does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in this person.

¹ Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been fathered by God, and everyone who loves _⌊the father_⌋* also loves the child fathered by him. ² By this we know that we love the children of God: whenever we love God and keep his commandments. ³ For this is the love of God: that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome,

¹⁴ Blessed are the ones who wash their robes, so that their authority will be over the tree of life and they may enter into the city through the gates.

⁸ And you shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as an emblem between your eyes. ⁹ And you shall write them on the doorframe of your house and on your gates.

¹⁸ "And you shall put these, my words, on your heart and on your inner self,* and you shall bind them as a sign on your hand and let them be as an emblem between your eyes. ¹⁹ And you shall teach them to your children* by talking about them when you sit in your house and when you travel on the road and when you lie down and when you get up. ²⁰ And you shall write them on the doorframes of your house and on your gates,

³ May loyal love* and truth not forsake you; bind them around your neck, write them upon your heart.

²¹ Bind them on your heart continually; tie them upon your neck.

⁸ Now go, write it on a tablet with them, and inscribe it on a scroll, _⌊that_⌋* it may be _⌊for the time to come_⌋,* forever, forever.

¹ "The sin of Judah is written with an iron stylus, with a point of diamond it is engraved on the tablet of their heart, and on the horns of their altars.

³³ "But this is the covenant that I will _⌊make_⌋* with the house of Israel after those days," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh: "I will put my law in their inward parts and on their hearts* I will write it, and I will be to them God, and they themselves will be to me people.

⁶ Do not forsake her—then she will guard you; love her and she will keep you. ⁷ The beginning of wisdom: Get wisdom! With all that is in your possession, gain insight. ⁸ Cherish her and she will exalt you; she will honor you if you embrace her.

¹⁶ in order to deliver you from a strange woman, from a foreign woman who flatters* with her sayings,

³ For the lips of the strange woman will drip honey, and smoother than oil is her mouth.*

⁴ to give shrewdness* to the simple, knowledge and purpose* to the young,

³² for the waywardness of the simple ones will kill them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them.

¹³ On the lips of one who has understanding, wisdom is found, but a rod is for the back of one who lacks _⌊sense_⌋.*

¹¹ He who works his land will have plenty of food, but he who follows worthless things lacks _⌊sense_⌋.*

¹⁵ The simple will believe every word, but the clever will consider his step.

¹⁸ The simple are adorned with folly, but the clever are crowned with knowledge.

² Also, a life* without knowledge is not good, and he who moves quickly with his feet _⌊misses the mark_⌋.*

²⁵ The scoffer you shall strike, and the simple, may they learn prudence, and reprove the intelligent and he will gain knowledge.

¹⁸ Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a person commits is outside his body, but the one who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body.

²² But flee from youthful desires, and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, in company with those who call upon the Lord from a pure heart.

²³ and save others by* snatching them from the fire, and have mercy on others with fear, hating even the tunic stained by the flesh.

¹¹ _⌊But one particular day_⌋* he came into the house to do his work and none of the men of the house were there in the house,

⁶ "_⌊You will keep it_⌋* until the fourteenth day of this month, and all the assembly of the community of Israel will slaughter it _⌊at twilight_⌋.*

¹⁶ "Take a harp, go around the city, forgotten prostitute! Do it well, playing a stringed instrument! Make numerous songs,* that you may be remembered."

³⁰ And you, O devastated one, what do you do, that you put on crimson, that you adorn yourself with ornaments of gold, that you make your eyes look bigger with the eye make-up? In vain you beautify yourself. Your lovers reject you; they seek your life.

² For I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy, because I promised you in marriage to one husband, to present you as a pure virgin to Christ. ³ But I am afraid lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds may be led astray from the sincerity and the purity of devotion to Christ.

⁹ Likewise also the women should adorn themselves in appropriate clothing, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold jewelry or pearls or expensive clothing,

For her worth is far more than precious jewels. ¹¹ The heart of her husband* trusts in her, and gain he will not lack. ¹² She does him good, but not harm all the days of her life. ¹³ She seeks wool and flax, and she works with the diligence of _⌊her hands_⌋.* ¹⁴ She is like the ships of a merchant; from far off she brings her food;* ¹⁵ And she arises while it is still night, and gives food to her household, and tasks to her servant girls. ¹⁶ She considers a field and buys it, from the fruit of _⌊her hand_⌋* she plants a vineyard. ¹⁷ She girds her waist in strength, and makes her arms strong. ¹⁸ She perceives that her merchandise is good; her lamp does not go out in the night. ¹⁹ Her hands she puts onto the distaff,* and her palms hold a spindle. ²⁰ Her palm she opens to the poor, and her hand she reaches out to the needy. ²¹ She does not fear for her house when it snows, for _⌊her entire household_⌋* is clothed in crimson. ²² She makes for herself coverings; her clothing is fine linen and purple. ²³ Her husband* is known at the gates, in his seat among the elders of the land. ²⁴ Linen garments she makes and sells, and she supplies sashes for the merchants. ²⁵ Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs _⌊at the future_⌋.* ²⁶ She opens her mouth with wisdom, and instruction of kindness is upon her tongue. ²⁷ She looks after the ways of her household, and the bread of idleness she will not eat. ²⁸ Her children rise and consider her happy, her husband* also, and he praises her; ²⁹ "Many daughters have done excellence,* but _⌊you surpass_⌋* all of them." ³⁰ Charm* is deceit and beauty* is vain;* but a woman who fears Yahweh shall be praised. ³¹ Give to her from the fruit of her hand, and may they praise her works in the city gates.

¹³ And at the same time also, going around from house to house, they learn to be idle, and not only idle, but also gossipy and busybodies, saying the things that are not necessary. ¹⁴ Therefore I want younger widows to marry, to bear children, to manage a household, to give the adversary no opportunity for reproach.

⁵ to be self-controlled, pure, busy at home, good, being subject to their own husbands, in order that the word of God may not be slandered.

¹⁴ She sits at the door of her house, upon a throne at the high places of town,

²⁸ She is also like a robber lying in wait, and the faithless among mankind she increases.

²⁰ "For from long ago you have broken your yoke, you tore to pieces your bonds. And you said, 'I will not serve!' But on every high hill and under every leafy tree you were lying down as a prostitute.

³³ How well you do on your way to seek love! _⌊Therefore_⌋* even to the wicked woman you can teach your ways.

³⁶ How you go about so much changing your way! Also by Egypt you will be put to shame, just as you were put to shame by Assyria.

² "Lift up your eyes at the barren heights, and see where you have not been ravished. Beside the roads you sat for them like an Arab in the desert,* and you have defiled the land with your fornication and with your wickedness.

²⁴ 'And then you built for yourself a mound, and you made for yourself a high place in every public square. ²⁵ At the head of every street you built your high place and you disgraced your beauty and you spread your feet for every passerby, and you increased your whoring.

³¹ _⌊when you built_⌋* your mound at the head of every street and your high place you made on every street, yet* you were* not like a prostitute, as you were scorning your harlot's wages.

³ For all the nations have drunk* from the wine of the passion of her sexual immorality, and the kings of the earth have committed sexual immorality with her, and the merchants of the earth have become rich from the power of her sensuality."

²³ And the light of a lamp will never shine in you again! And the sound of a bridegroom and bride will never be heard in you again! For your merchants were the most important people of the earth, because with your sorcery they deceived all the nations.

⁷ And it happened that after these things his master's wife cast her eyes on Joseph, and she said, "Lie with me."

¹⁶ Behold, these women _⌊caused_⌋* the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* by the word of Balaam, to be in apostasy against Yahweh in the matter of Peor, so that the plague was among the community of Yahweh.

²⁹ A wicked man is strong in _⌊his countenance_⌋,* but the upright will appoint his paths.

⁷ And the Lord Yahweh helps me,
therefore I have not been put to shame; therefore I have set my face like flint. And I know that I shall not be ashamed;

⁴ And the children* are _⌊impudent_⌋* and _⌊stubborn_⌋,* and so I am sending you to them, and you must say to them, 'Thus says the Lord Yahweh!'

⁶ And you, son of man,* you must not be afraid of them, and you must not be afraid of their words, because* briers and thorns are with you, and you are sitting among scorpions. You must not be afraid of their words, and you must not be dismayed because of their _⌊looks_⌋,* for they are a rebellious house.

⁷ And the house of Israel, they are not willing to listen to you, for they are not willing to listen to me, for all of the house of Israel is hard of forehead, and they are hard of heart. ⁸ But look, I have made* your face hard _⌊against_⌋* their faces and your forehead hard _⌊against_⌋* their forehead. ⁹ Like a diamond _⌊harder than flint_⌋* I have made your forehead; you must not fear them, and you must not be dismayed _⌊on account of them_⌋,* for they _⌊are a rebellious house_⌋.*

³³ To all prostitutes they give a fee, but you, you gave your gifts to all of your lovers, and you bribed them to come to you from all around in your whorings!

²⁰ But I have against you that you tolerate the woman Jezebel, the one who calls herself a prophetess, and teaches and deceives my slaves to commit sexual immorality and to eat food sacrificed to idols.

¹¹ " 'And this is the regulation of the fellowship offerings that he must present to Yahweh:

¹⁵ And the meat of the sacrifice of his thanksgiving fellowship offerings must be eaten on the day of his offering; he must not leave it until morning. ¹⁶ " 'But* if his sacrifice is for a vow or as a freewill offering, it must be eaten on the day of his presenting his sacrifice, and on the next day the remainder* from it may be eaten,

⁶ And you shall bring there your burnt offerings and your sacrifices and your tithes and _⌊your donations_⌋* and your votive gifts and your freewill offerings and the firstling of your herd and your flock. ⁷ And you shall eat there _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh your God, and you shall rejoice _⌊in all your endeavors_⌋,* you and your family in which Yahweh your God has blessed you.

⁷ It happened at the end of four* years that Absalom said to the king, "Please let me go and pay my vow which I have made to Yahweh in Hebron, ⁸ for your servant made a vow while I was staying in Geshur in Aram, saying, '_⌊If Yahweh will indeed let me return_⌋* to Jerusalem, then I will worship Yahweh.'" ⁹ Then the king said to him, "Go in peace." So he got up and went to Hebron.

⁹ She had written in the letters, saying, "Call a fast and seat Naboth at the head of the people. ¹⁰ Seat two men, _⌊scoundrels_⌋,* opposite him. Let them witness against him saying, 'You cursed God and the king.' Then you shall bring him out and stone him so that he dies."

⁸ The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination of Yahweh, but the prayer of the upright is his delight.

²⁸ Then they brought Jesus from Caiaphas to the governor's residence. Now it was early, and they did not enter into the governor's residence so that they would not be defiled, but could eat the Passover.

²⁸ The import of the horses which were Solomon's was from Egypt and from Kue; the traders of the king received horses from Kue at a price.

²² She makes for herself coverings; her clothing is fine linen and purple.

¹⁶ Look! You are beautiful, my beloved, truly pleasant. Truly our couch is _⌊verdant_⌋;*

⁷ Look! It is Solomon's _⌊portable couch_⌋!* Sixty mighty men surround _⌊it_⌋,* the mighty men of Israel. ⁸ All of them _⌊wield swords_⌋;* they are _⌊trained in warfare_⌋,* each with his sword at his thigh to guard _⌊against terror_⌋* in the night. ⁹ _⌊King Solomon_⌋* made for himself a sedan chair from the wood of Lebanon. ¹⁰ He made its column of silver, its back* of gold, its seat of purple; its interior is inlaid with leather* by _⌊the maidens of Jerusalem_⌋.*

⁹ And the workers of combed flax will be ashamed, and those who weave white linen.

⁷ Your sail was fine linen with colorful weaving from Egypt _⌊to serve as a banner for you_⌋;* blue and purple cloth from the coastlands of Cyprus* was your awning.

²² Behold, I am throwing her into a sickbed and those who committed adultery with her into great affliction, unless they repent from her deeds.

²³ "And take for yourself top quality balsam oils, five hundred shekels of flowing myrrh, half as much—two hundred and fifty shekels of fragrant cinnamon, and two hundred and fifty shekels of fragrant reed,

⁸ All your robes are scented with myrrh and aloes and cassia. From palaces of ivory stringed instruments gladden you.

⁶ What is this coming up from the desert like a column of smoke, perfumed with myrrh and frankincense from all the fragrant powders of the merchant?

¹³ Your shoots* are an orchard of pomegranates with _⌊choice fruit_⌋,* henna with nard; ¹⁴ nard and saffron, calamus and cinnamon spice with all trees of frankincense, myrrh and aloes with all chief spices.

⁷ You have set your bed upon a high and lofty mountain; indeed, you went up there to slaughter sacrifice. ⁸ And you have set your symbol behind the door and the doorpost; for you depart* from me, and you go up; you make your bed wide, and you _⌊make a deal with_⌋* them, you have loved their bed; you have seen their _⌊genitals_⌋.* ⁹ And you climbed down to the king with oil, and you made your perfumes numerous, and you sent your envoys _⌊far away_⌋,* and you _⌊sent down deep_⌋* to Sheol.

¹¹ And when they* received it,* they began to complain* against the master of the house,

⁴³ But understand this: that if the master of the house had known what watch of the night the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house be broken into.

⁴⁸ But if that evil slave should say _⌊to himself_⌋,* 'My master is staying away for a long time,'

³⁴ It is like a man away on a journey, who left his house and gave his slaves authority—to each one his work—and to the doorkeeper he gave orders that he should be on the alert. ³⁵ Therefore be on the alert, for you do not know when the master of the house is coming—whether in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or early in the morning— ³⁶ lest he arrive suddenly and* find you sleeping.

³⁹ But understand this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief was coming, he would not have left his house to be broken into.

⁴⁵ But if that slave should say _⌊to himself_⌋,* 'My master is taking a long time to return,' and he begins to beat the male slaves and the female slaves and to eat and drink and get drunk, ⁴⁶ the master of that slave will come on a day that he does not expect and at an hour that he does not know, and will cut him in two and assign his place with the unbelievers.

⁴ Look, I am building a house for the name of Yahweh my God to dedicate to him, to offer sweet spices of incense before him, and for the regular rows of bread, and burnt offerings for mornings, evenings, Sabbaths, and new moon festivals, and for appointed feasts of Yahweh our God which are everlasting for Israel.

¹⁵ And she said to him, "How can you say, 'I love you,' when your heart is not with me? You have mocked me these three times, and you have not told me how your strength is so great." ¹⁶ And because she nagged him day after day with her words, and pestered him, _⌊his soul grew impatient to the point of death_⌋.* ¹⁷ So _⌊he confided everything to her_⌋,* and he said to her, "A razor _⌊has never touched_⌋* my head, for I am a _⌊Nazirite of God_⌋* _⌊from birth_⌋.* If I am shaved my strength will leave me, and I will become weak, like everyone else.

²³ But he refused and said, "I will not eat!" However, his servants urged him, and the woman also. So he listened _⌊to what they said_⌋,* and he got up from the ground and sat on the bed.

⁸ It happened one day that Elisha passed through to Shunem where there was a wealthy woman, and she urged him to eat bread; so it happened each time he passed through, he would stop there to eat.

² They speak falseness _⌊to each other_⌋.* With flattering lips, with _⌊a double heart_⌋* they speak.

⁵ In order to guard yourself from _⌊an adulteress_⌋,* from the foreigner who _⌊makes her words smooth_⌋.*

²³ And the master said to the slave, 'Go out into the highways and hedges and press them* to come in, so that my house will be filled!

²⁹ And they urged him strongly, saying, "Stay with us, because it is getting toward evening, and by this time the day is far spent." And he went in to stay with them.

¹⁵ And after she was baptized, and her household, she urged us,* saying, "If you consider me to be a believer in the Lord, come to my house and* stay." And she prevailed upon us.

¹⁴ For the love of Christ controls us, because we* have concluded this: that one died for all; as a result all died.

²⁷ And you* put my feet in the block, and you* watch all my paths; you carve a mark on the soles of my feet.*

² Then Pashhur struck Jeremiah the prophet and put him in the stocks that were in the upper Gate of Benjamin, which was by the temple of Yahweh.

¹³ And the priest of the temple* of Zeus that was just outside the city brought bulls and garlands to the gates and* was wanting to offer sacrifice, along with the crowds.

²⁴ Having received such an order, _⌊he_⌋* put them in the inner prison and fastened their feet in the stocks.*

⁸ He went after the man of Israel into the woman's section of the tent, and he drove the two of them, the man of Israel and the woman, into her belly. And the plague among the _⌊Israelites_⌋* stopped. ⁹ The ones who died in the plague were twenty-four thousand.

¹⁷ for "in vain* is the net scattered, in the sight of any _⌊winged bird_⌋."*

¹⁸ But he does not know that the dead* are there, in the depths of Sheol* are her guests.

¹² For man does not know his time. Just as fish are caught in a cruel net and like birds who are seized in a snare, so also _⌊humans_⌋* are ensnared at a cruel time when it falls suddenly upon them.

¹ Children, listen to the instruction of a father, and be attentive in order to know insight.

⁷ Now, O children, listen to me; do not depart from the sayings of my mouth.

³² "And now, children, listen to me; happy are those who will keep my ways. ³³ Hear teaching and be wise; do not neglect it.

¹⁴ I am not writing these things to shame you, but admonishing you as my dear children. ¹⁵ For if you have ten thousand guardians in Christ, yet you do not have many fathers, for in Christ Jesus I fathered you through the gospel.

¹⁹ My children, for whom I am having birth pains again, until Christ is formed in you!

¹ My little children, I am writing these things to you in order that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous one,

¹⁷⁶ I have wandered like a lost sheep; seek your servant, because I do not forget your commands.

²³ He shall die _⌊for lack of_⌋* discipline, and in the greatness of his folly he shall be lost.

²⁵ Do not desire her beauty in your heart; may she not capture you with her eyelashes.

³¹ Do not look at wine when it is red, when it _⌊sparkles_⌋* on the cup, going down smoothly. ³² _⌊In the end_⌋,* it will bite like a serpent, and it will sting like an adder. ³³ Your eyes will see strange things, and your heart* will speak perverse things.

⁶ All of us have wandered about like sheep; we each have turned to his own way; and Yahweh let fall on him the iniquity of us all.

²⁸ But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

²¹ And the Philistines seized him, gouged his eyes, and brought him to Gaza. They tied him up with bronze shackles, and he became a grinder _⌊in the prison_⌋.*

⁶ As the war between the house of Saul and the house of David was continuing, Abner was strengthening himself in the house of Saul. ⁷ Saul had had a concubine, and her name was Rizpah the daughter of Aiah. Then Ish-Bosheth* said to Abner, "Why _⌊did you have sex with_⌋* my father's concubine?" ⁸ _⌊Abner became very angry_⌋* at the words of Ish-Bosheth, and he said, "Am I the head of a dog which is for Judah today? Do I not continue to show loyal love with the house of Saul your father, to his brothers, and to his friends? I have not let you fall into the hands of David, yet you have _⌊accused me of sin with this woman_⌋* today.

²⁷ When Abner returned to Hebron, Joab took him aside to the middle of the gate to speak with him in private. Then he struck him in the stomach there and he died, _⌊for he had shed the blood of Asahel his brother_⌋.*

⁹ Why have you despised the word of Yahweh by doing evil in his eyes?* Uriah the Hittite you have struck down with the sword, and his wife you have taken to yourself as wife! You have killed him with the sword of the _⌊Ammonites_⌋!* ¹⁰ So then, a sword will not turn away from your house forever, because you have despised me and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife!' ¹¹ Thus says Yahweh, 'Look, I am going to raise up evil against you from within your house, and I will take your women before your eyes, and I will give them to your neighbor, and he shall sleep with your wives _⌊in broad daylight_⌋.*

¹ King Solomon loved many foreign women: the daughter of Pharaoh, Moabite, Ammonite, Edomite, Sidonian, Hittite; ² from the nations which Yahweh had said to the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* "You shall not _⌊marry them_⌋,* and they shall not _⌊marry you_⌋.* They will certainly turn your heart after other gods." But Solomon clung to them to love.

²⁶ Did not King Solomon of Israel sin in this way? And among the many nations there was no king like him, and he was beloved by his God, and God made him king over all Israel. Yet the foreign women made even him sin.

³³ A wound and dishonor he will find, and his disgrace will not be wiped out.

⁸ nor commit sexual immorality, as some of them committed sexual immorality, and twenty-three thousand fell in one day,

²¹ I am afraid lest when I* come again my God will humiliate me _⌊in your presence_⌋*, and I will grieve over many of those who sinned previously and have not repented because of their impurity and sexual immorality and licentiousness that they have practiced.

¹¹ Dear friends, I urge you as foreigners and temporary residents to abstain from fleshly desires which wage war against your* soul,

¹⁸ for her house sinks to death, and to the dead* are her paths. ¹⁹ Of all who go to her, none shall return, nor do they reach paths of life.

⁵ Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold of Sheol.*

²⁶ I myself found that more bitter than death is the woman who is a trap, whose heart is a snare, and whose hands are bonds. The one who pleases God escapes from her, but the sinner is caught by her.

¹⁵ Outside are the dogs and the sorcerers and the sexually immoral people and the murderers and the idolaters and everyone who loves and who practices falsehood.
