¹ And Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, ² "Consecrate to me every firstborn, the first offspring of every womb among the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* among humans* and among domestic animals;* _⌊it belongs to me_⌋."* ³ And Moses said to the people, "Remember this day when you went out from Egypt, from a house of slaves, because with strength of hand Yahweh brought you out from here, and food with yeast will not be eaten. ⁴ Today you are going out in the month of Abib. ⁵ And when Yahweh brings you to the land of the Canaanites* and the Hittites* and the Amorites* and the Hivites* and the Jebusites*—which he swore to your ancestors* to give to you, a land flowing with milk and honey—you will perform this service in this month. ⁶ Seven days you will eat unleavened bread, and on the seventh day will be a feast for Yahweh. ⁷ Unleavened bread will be eaten the seven days; food with yeast will not be seen for you; and yeast will not be seen for you in all your territory. ⁸ And you shall tell your son on that day, saying, 'This is because of what Yahweh did for me when I came out from Egypt.' ⁹ And it will be as a sign on your hand and as a memorial between your eyes so that the law of Yahweh will be in your mouth, that with a strong hand Yahweh brought you out from Egypt. ¹⁰ And you will keep this statute at its appointed time _⌊from year to year_⌋.* ¹¹ "And when Yahweh brings you to the land of the Canaanite, as he swore to you and to your ancestors,* and he gives it to you, ¹² you will hand over every first offspring of a womb to Yahweh, and every first offspring dropped by a domestic animal that will belong to you, the males will be for Yahweh. ¹³ And every first offspring of a donkey you will redeem with small livestock, and if you will not redeem it, then you will break its neck, and every firstborn human among your sons you will redeem. ¹⁴ And when your son asks you _⌊in the future_⌋,* saying, 'What is this?' you will say to him, 'With strength of hand Yahweh brought us out from Egypt, from a house of slaves. ¹⁵ And when Pharaoh was stubborn to release us, Yahweh killed every firstborn in the land of Egypt, from firstborn human to firstborn domestic animal. Therefore I am sacrificing to Yahweh every first offspring of a womb, the males, and every firstborn of my sons I redeem.' ¹⁶ And it will be as a sign on your hand and as symbolic ornaments between your eyes that with strength of hand Yahweh brought us out from Egypt." ¹⁷ And when Pharaoh released the people, God did not lead them the way of the land of the Philistines, though it was nearer, because God said, "Lest the people change their mind when they see war and return to Egypt." ¹⁸ So God led the people around by the way of the desert to the _⌊Red Sea_⌋,* and the _⌊Israelites_⌋* went up in battle array from the land of Egypt. ¹⁹ And Moses took the bones of Joseph with him because Joseph* had made the _⌊Israelites_⌋* solemnly swear an oath, saying, "God will surely attend to you, and you will take up my bones from here with you." ²⁰ And they set out from Succoth, and they encamped at Etham on the edge of the desert. ²¹ And Yahweh was going before them by day in a column of cloud to lead them on the way and by night in a column of fire to give light to them to go by day and night. ²² The column of cloud by day and the column of fire by night did not depart from before the people.

²² And you must say to Pharaoh, 'Thus says Yahweh, "Israel is my son, my firstborn."

²⁹ " 'You will not delay the fullness of your harvest and the juice from your press; you will give me the firstborn of your sons. ³⁰ You will do likewise for your ox and for your sheep and goats; seven days it will be with its mother; on the eighth, you will give it to me.

¹⁹ " 'The best of the firstfruits of your land you will bring to the house of Yahweh your God.
" 'You will not boil a young goat* in its mother's milk.

¹⁹ Every first offspring of a womb is for me—all of your male livestock, the first offspring of cattle and small livestock. ²⁰ But the first offspring of a donkey you will redeem with small livestock, and if you will not redeem it, you will break its neck. Every firstborn of your sons you will redeem, and you will not appear before me empty-handed.

²⁶ " 'However, a man shall not consecrate a firstborn among livestock, which belongs as firstborn to Yahweh; whether an ox _⌊or_⌋* small livestock, it is for Yahweh.

¹³ because all the firstborn are mine; on the day of my killing all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, I consecrated for myself all the firstborn in Israel, _⌊both humankind and animal_⌋;* they will be mine. I am Yahweh."

¹⁶ For they are given to me exclusively from the midst of the _⌊Israelites_⌋.* I have taken them for myself in place of the firstborn of every womb, every firstborn from the _⌊Israelites_⌋.* ¹⁷ For every firstborn among the _⌊Israelites_⌋* is mine, both humankind and animal. On the day I destroyed every firstborn in the land of Egypt I consecrated them to me,

¹⁵ All the first offspring of a womb of any creature that they offer to Yahweh, whether human or animal, will be yours; you will surely redeem the firstborn of the human and the unclean firstborn of the animal.

¹⁹ "Every firstling male that is born of your herd and of your flock you shall consecrate to Yahweh your God; you shall not do work with the firstling of your ox, and you shall not shear the firstling of your flock.

²³ (just as it is written in the law of the Lord, "Every male that opens the womb will be called holy to the Lord")*

²³ and assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God the judge of all, and to the spirits of righteous people made perfect,

²⁰ And I will stretch out my hand, and I will strike Egypt with all of my wonders that I will do in its midst, and _⌊afterward_⌋* he will release you.

¹ And Yahweh said to Moses, "Now you will see what I will do to Pharaoh, because with a strong hand he will release them, and with a strong hand he will drive them out from his land."

⁸ And they will eat the meat on this night; they will eat it fire-roasted and with unleavened bread on _⌊bitter herbs_⌋.*

¹⁵ You will eat unleavened bread for seven days. Surely on the first day you shall remove yeast from your houses, because anyone who eats food with yeast from the first day until the seventh day—that person will be cut off from Israel.

¹⁹ For seven days yeast must not be found in your houses, because _⌊anyone eating food with yeast_⌋* will be cut off from the community of Israel—whether an alien or a native of the land.

⁴² It is a night of vigils* belonging to Yahweh for bringing them out from the land of Egypt; it is this night belonging to Yahweh with vigils for all of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* throughout their generations.

¹⁴ And when your son asks you _⌊in the future_⌋,* saying, 'What is this?' you will say to him, 'With strength of hand Yahweh brought us out from Egypt, from a house of slaves.

² "I am Yahweh, your God, who brought you out from the land of Egypt, from the house of slaves.

⁸ "Remember the day of the Sabbath, to consecrate it.

¹⁵ You will keep the Feast of Unleavened Bread; for seven days you will eat unleavened bread, as I commanded you at the appointed time, the month of Abib, because in it you came out from Egypt, and _⌊no one will_⌋* appear before me empty-handed.

³⁴ Or has a god ever attempted to go to take for himself* a nation from the midst of a nation, using trials and signs and wonders and war, with an outstretched arm and with great and awesome deeds, like all that Yahweh your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes?

⁶ 'I am Yahweh your God, who brought you out from the land of Egypt, from the house of slavery.

¹⁵ And you shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and Yahweh your God brought you out with a strong hand and with an outstretched arm; therefore, Yahweh your God commanded you to keep _⌊the Sabbath_⌋.*

¹² then take care for yourself, so that you do not forget Yahweh, who brought you out from the land of Egypt from the house of slavery.

¹⁴ then your heart _⌊becomes proud_⌋* and you forget Yahweh your God, _⌊the one who brought you out_⌋* from the land of Egypt, from the house of slavery,

² And you shall realize _⌊today_⌋* that it is not with your children who have not known and who have not seen the discipline of Yahweh your God—his greatness, his strong hand, and his outstretched arm, ³ and his signs and his deeds that he did in the midst of Egypt to Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, and to all of his land,

⁵ But that prophet or the dreamer of that dream shall be executed, for he spoke falsely about Yahweh your God, the one bringing you out from the land of Egypt and the one redeeming you from the house of slavery, in order to seduce you from the way that Yahweh your God commanded you to go in it; so in this way you shall purge the evil from your midst.

¹⁰ And you shall stone him with stones and let him die, for he tried to seduce you from Yahweh your God, the one bringing you from the land of Egypt, from the house of slavery.

¹⁵ And remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and Yahweh your God redeemed you; therefore I am commanding you thus _⌊today_⌋.*

³ You shall not eat _⌊with it_⌋* anything leavened; seven days you shall eat _⌊with it_⌋* unleavened bread of affliction, because in haste you went out from the land of Egypt, so that you will remember the day of your going out from the land of Egypt all the days of your life.

¹² And you shall remember that you were a slave in Egypt, and so _⌊you shall diligently observe_⌋* these rules.

¹⁸ And you shall remember that you were a slave in Egypt and that Yahweh your God redeemed you from there; therefore I am commanding you to do this commandment.

²² And you shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, therefore I am commanding you to do this thing."

¹⁷ for Yahweh our God brought us and our ancestors* from the land of Egypt, from the house of slavery, and did these great signs before our eyes. He protected us along the entire way that we went, and among all the peoples through whose midst we passed.

¹² Remember his wonderful works that he has done, his wonders and the judgments of his mouth,

¹⁰ You gave signs and wonders against Pharaoh, all of his servants, and all of the people of his land because you knew that they acted arrogantly against them. You made a name for yourself, as it is this day.

⁵ Remember his wonders that he has done, his signs and the judgments of his mouth,

¹² And when you* enter into the house, greet it.

¹⁹ And he took bread, and* after* giving thanks, he broke it* and gave it* to them, saying, "This is my body which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me."

⁸ So then, let us celebrate the feast, not with the old leaven or with the leaven of wickedness and sinfulness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

²⁴ and after he* had given thanks, he broke it and said, "This is my body which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me."

¹⁹ and what is the surpassing greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his mighty strength

² "This month will be the beginning of months; it will be for you the first of the months of the year.

¹⁸ "You will keep the Feast of Unleavened Bread. Seven days you will eat unleavened bread, which I commanded you, at the appointed time of the month of Abib, for in the month of Abib you came out from Egypt.

¹ "Observe the month of Abib, and you shall keep the Passover to Yahweh your God, for in the month of Abib Yahweh your God brought you out from Egypt by night. ² And you shall offer the Passover sacrifice to Yahweh your God from among your flock and herd at the place that Yahweh will choose, to let his name dwell there. ³ You shall not eat _⌊with it_⌋* anything leavened; seven days you shall eat _⌊with it_⌋* unleavened bread of affliction, because in haste you went out from the land of Egypt, so that you will remember the day of your going out from the land of Egypt all the days of your life.

¹⁸ On that day Yahweh _⌊made_⌋* a covenant with Abram saying, "To your offspring I will give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates river, ¹⁹ the land of the Kenites, the Kenizzites, the Kadmonites, ²⁰ the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim, ²¹ the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites, and the Jebusites."

⁷ And I will establish my covenant between me and you, and between your offspring after you, throughout their generations as an everlasting covenant to be as God for you and to your offspring after you. ⁸ And I will give to you and to your offspring after you _⌊the land in which you are living as an alien_⌋,* all the land of Canaan, as an everlasting property. And I will be to them as God."

¹⁶ And he said, "I swear by myself, declares Yahweh, that because you have done this thing and have not withheld your son, your only child, ¹⁷ that I will certainly bless you and greatly multiply your offspring as the stars of heaven, and as the sand that is by the shore of the sea. And your offspring will take possession of the gate of his enemies. ¹⁸ All the nations of the earth will be blessed through your offspring, because you have listened to my voice."

³ Dwell as an alien in this land, and I will be with you, and will bless you, for I will give all these lands to you and to your descendants, and I will establish the oath that I swore to Abraham you father.

²⁴ And Joseph said to his brothers, "I am about to die, but God will certainly visit you and bring you up from this land to the land that he swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob."

⁸ And I have come down to deliver them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up from this land to a good and wide land, to a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanites* and the Hittites* and the Amorites* and the Perizzites* and the Hivites* and the Jebusites.*

¹⁷ And I said, "I will bring you up from the misery of Egypt to the land of the Canaanites* and the Hittites* and the Amorites* and the Perizzites* and the Hivites* and the Jebusites,* to a land flowing with milk and honey." '

⁸ And I will bring you to the land _⌊that I swore_⌋* to give to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, and I will give it to you as a possession. I am Yahweh."

²⁵ _⌊And_⌋* when you come into the land that Yahweh will give to you, as he said, you will keep this _⌊religious custom_⌋.* ²⁶ _⌊And_⌋* when your children say to you, 'What is this _⌊religious custom_⌋* for you?'*

¹ And Yahweh spoke to Moses, "Go, go up from here, you and the people whom you have brought up from the land of Egypt, to the land that I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, 'I will give it to your offspring.'

¹¹ "Keep for yourself what I myself have commanded you today. Look, I am about to drive from before you the Amorites and the Canaanites* and the Hittites* and the Perizzites* and the Hivites* and the Jebusites.*

¹⁶ 'Yahweh was unable to bring this people in the land that he swore by an oath, and he slaughtered them in the desert.'

³⁰ You yourselves will not come into the land that _⌊I swore by oath_⌋* to make you to dwell in it, but Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.

¹¹ 'The men who went up from Egypt, from _⌊those twenty years old_⌋* and above, will not see the land that I swore with an oath to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob because they have not wholly followed me,

¹ "When Yahweh your God brings you into the land that you are about to enter _⌊into it_⌋* to take possession of it, and he drives* out many nations _⌊before you_⌋,* the Hittites* and the Girgashites* and the Amorites* and the Canaanites* and the Hivites* and the Jebusites,* seven nations mightier and more numerous than you,

²⁹ "When Yahweh your God has cut off the nations whom you are _⌊about to go to_⌋,* to dispossess them _⌊before you_⌋,* and you have dispossessed them, and you live in their land,

¹ "When Yahweh your God has _⌊exterminated_⌋* the nations concerning whom Yahweh your God is giving to you their land, and you have dispossessed them, and you have settled in their towns and in their houses,

¹ "_⌊And then_⌋* when you come to the land that Yahweh your God is giving to you as an inheritance, and you take possession of it and you settle in it,

¹¹ and you crossed the Jordan and came to Jericho. And the citizens of Jericho, the Amorites,* the Perizzites,* the Canaanites,* the Hittites,* the Girgashites,* the Hivites,* and the Jebusites,* fought against you, and I gave them into your hand.

¹⁵ You will eat unleavened bread for seven days. Surely on the first day you shall remove yeast from your houses, because anyone who eats food with yeast from the first day until the seventh day—that person will be cut off from Israel. ¹⁶ It will be for you on the first day a holy assembly* and on the seventh day a holy assembly;* no work will be done on them; only what is eaten by every person, it alone will be prepared for you. ¹⁷ "And you will keep the Feast of Unleavened Bread, because on this very day I brought out your divisions from the land of Egypt, and you will keep this day for your generations as a lasting statute. ¹⁸ On the first day, on the fourteenth day of the month, in the evening, you will eat unleavened bread until the evening of the twenty-first day of the month. ¹⁹ For seven days yeast must not be found in your houses, because _⌊anyone eating food with yeast_⌋* will be cut off from the community of Israel—whether an alien or a native of the land. ²⁰ You will eat no food with yeast; in all of your dwellings you will eat unleavened bread."

⁸ And you shall present an offering for Yahweh made by fire for seven days; on the seventh day there shall be a holy assembly; you shall not do _⌊any regular work_⌋.'"*

⁶ And Jesus said to them, "Watch out for and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees!"

² so that you will tell in the ears of your child and _⌊your grandchild_⌋* that I dealt harshly with the Egyptians and so that you will tell about my signs that I have done among them, and so you will know that I am Yahweh."

²⁶ _⌊And_⌋* when your children say to you, 'What is this _⌊religious custom_⌋* for you?'* ²⁷ you will say, 'It is a Passover sacrifice for Yahweh, who passed over the houses of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* in Egypt when he struck Egypt; and he delivered our houses.'" And the people knelt down and they worshiped.

⁹ "However, _⌊take care_⌋* for yourself and watch your inner self* closely, so that you do not forget the things that your eyes have seen, so that they do not slip from your mind all the days of your life; and you shall make them known to your children and to _⌊your grandchildren_⌋.* ¹⁰ Remember the day that you stood _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh your God at Horeb _⌊when Yahweh said to me_⌋,* 'Summon for me the people so that I can tell them my words, that they may learn to fear me all of the days they are alive on the earth and so that they may teach their children.'

O God, we have heard with our ears; our ancestors* have told us of work you worked in their days, in days of old.

³ that we have heard and known, and our ancestors* have told us. ⁴ We will not hide them from their children,* telling the next generation the praises of Yahweh, and his power and his wonders that he has done. ⁵ For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law* in Israel, which he commanded our ancestors* to teach to their children, ⁶ so that the next generation might know— children yet to be born— that they might rise up and tell their children, ⁷ that they might set their confidence in God, and not forget the deeds of God, but keep his commandments, ⁸ and not be like their ancestors,* a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation that did not make ready its heart, whose spirit was not faithful to God.

¹⁹ The living, the living one praises you like me today; a father will make your faithfulness known to children.

⁴ And fathers, do not make your children angry, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

¹ And Yahweh said to Moses, "Now you will see what I will do to Pharaoh, because with a strong hand he will release them, and with a strong hand he will drive them out from his land." ² And God spoke to Moses, and he said to him, "I am Yahweh. ³ And I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob as God Shaddai,* but by my name Yahweh I was not known to them. ⁴ And I not only established my covenant with them to give to them the land of Canaan, the land of their sojournings, in which they dwelt as aliens, ⁵ but also I myself heard the groaning of the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* whom the Egyptians are making to work, and I remembered my covenant. ⁶ Therefore say to the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* 'I am Yahweh, and I will bring you out from under the _⌊forced labor_⌋* of Egypt, and I will deliver you from their slavery, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great punishments. ⁷ And I will take you _⌊as my people_⌋,* and I will be _⌊your God_⌋,* and you will know that I am Yahweh your God, who brought you out from under the _⌊forced labor_⌋* of Egypt. ⁸ And I will bring you to the land _⌊that I swore_⌋* to give to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, and I will give it to you as a possession. I am Yahweh." ⁹ And Moses spoke thus to the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* but they did not listen to Moses, because of _⌊discouragement_⌋* and because of hard work. ¹⁰ And Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, ¹¹ "Go, speak to Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, and let him release the _⌊Israelites_⌋* from his land." ¹² And Moses spoke before Yahweh, saying, "Look, the _⌊Israelites_⌋* do not listen to me, and how will Pharaoh listen to me, since I am _⌊a poor speaker_⌋?"* ¹³ And Yahweh spoke to Moses and to Aaron, and he commanded them to go to the _⌊Israelites_⌋* and to Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, to bring the _⌊Israelites_⌋* out from the land of Egypt. ¹⁴ These are the heads of _⌊their families_⌋.*
The sons of Reuben, the firstborn of Israel, are Enoch and Pallu, Hezron and Carmi. These are the clans of Reuben. ¹⁵ And the sons of Simeon are Jemuel and Jamin and Ohad and Jakin and Zohar and Shaul the son of the Canaanitess.* These are the clans of Simeon. ¹⁶ And these are the names of the sons of Levi according to their genealogies:* Gershon and Kohath and Merari, and the years of the life of Levi were _⌊one hundred and thirty-seven years_⌋.* ¹⁷ The sons of Gershon are Libni and Shimei according to their clans. ¹⁸ And the sons of Kohath are Amram and Izhar and Hebron and Uzziel, and the years of the life of Kohath were _⌊one hundred and thirty-three years_⌋.* ¹⁹ And the sons of Merari are Mahli and Mushi. These are clans of the Levites according to their genealogies.* ²⁰ And Amram took Jochebed his aunt for himself as a wife, and she bore for him Aaron and Moses, and the years of the life of Amram were _⌊one hundred and thirty-seven years_⌋.* ²¹ And the sons of Izhar are Korah and Nepheg and Zikri. ²² And the sons of Uzziel are Mishael and Elzaphan and Sithri. ²³ And Aaron took Elisheba the daughter of Amminadab, the sister of Nahshon, for himself as a wife, and she bore for him Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar. ²⁴ And the sons of Korah are Assir and Elkanah and Abiasaph. These are the clans of the Korahites. ²⁵ And Eleazar the son of Aaron took for himself one from the daughters of Putiel as a wife, and she bore for him Phinehas. These are the heads of the _⌊families_⌋* of the Levites according to their clans. ²⁶ It was that Aaron and Moses to whom Yahweh said, "Bring the _⌊Israelites_⌋* out from the land of Egypt according to their divisions." ²⁷ They were those who spoke to Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, in order to bring the _⌊Israelites_⌋* out from Egypt. It was that Moses and Aaron. ²⁸ _⌊And so it was on a certain day_⌋* Yahweh spoke to Moses in the land of Egypt. ²⁹ And Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, "I am Yahweh. Speak to Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, all that I am speaking to you." ³⁰ And Moses said before Yahweh, "Look, I am _⌊a poor speaker_⌋.* And how will Pharaoh listen to me?"

¹⁴ "And this day will become a memorial for you, and you will celebrate it as a religious feast for Yahweh throughout your generations; you will celebrate it as a lasting statute.

³ And Moses said to the people, "Remember this day when you went out from Egypt, from a house of slaves, because with strength of hand Yahweh brought you out from here, and food with yeast will not be eaten.

¹⁶ And it will be as a sign on your hand and as symbolic ornaments between your eyes that with strength of hand Yahweh brought us out from Egypt."

³⁹ You will have a tassel _⌊for you to look at_⌋* and remember all the commands of Yahweh and do them, and not follow _⌊after the unfaithfulness of your own heart and eyes_⌋,*

⁶ And these words that I am commanding you _⌊today_⌋* shall be on* your heart.*

⁸ And you shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as an emblem between your eyes.

¹⁸ "And you shall put these, my words, on your heart and on your inner self,* and you shall bind them as a sign on your hand and let them be as an emblem between your eyes. ¹⁹ And you shall teach them to your children* by talking about them when you sit in your house and when you travel on the road and when you lie down and when you get up.

¹⁴ But the word is very near you, even in your mouth and in your heart, _⌊so that you may do it_⌋.*

⁸ The scroll of this law will not depart from your mouth; you will meditate on it day and night so that _⌊you may observe diligently all that is written_⌋* in it. For then you will succeed in your ways and prosper. ⁹ Did I not command you? Be strong and courageous! Do not fear or be dismayed, for Yahweh your God is with you _⌊wherever you go_⌋."* ¹⁰ They are your servants and your people whom you have redeemed by your great power and by your strong hand.

¹³ You have a mighty arm; Your hand is strong; your right hand reaches high.

⁹ for they are a garland of favor for your head, and pendants for your neck.

²¹ My child, may they* not escape from your _⌊sight_⌋;* may you keep sound wisdom and prudence.

²⁰ My child, keep the commandment of your father, and do not disregard the instruction of your mother. ²¹ Bind them on your heart continually; tie them upon your neck. ²² _⌊When you walk_⌋,* she* will lead you, _⌊When you lie down_⌋,* she will watch over you, and when you awake, she will converse with you. ²³ For like a lamp is a commandment, and instruction is light, and the way of life* is the reproof of discipline,

²³ until an arrow pierces his _⌊entrails_⌋,* like a bird rushing into a snare, but he does not know that _⌊it will cost him his life_⌋.*

⁶ Set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm; for love is strong as death; passion is fierce as Sheol; its flashes are flashes of fire; it is a blazing flame.

¹ On that day, Yahweh will punish with his cruel, great and strong sword Leviathan, the fleeing serpent, and Leviathan, the twisting serpent, and he will kill the sea monster that is in the sea.

¹⁰ Look! The Lord Yahweh comes with _⌊strength_⌋,* and his arm rules for him. Look! His reward is with him, and his recompense _⌊in his presence_⌋.*

¹⁶ Look, I have inscribed you on the palms of my hands; your walls are continually before me.

⁹ Awake! Awake; put on strength, O arm of Yahweh! Awake as in days of long ago, the generations of a long time back! Are you not the one who cut Rahab in pieces, the one who pierced the sea-dragon?

²¹ "And as for me, this is my covenant with them, says Yahweh:
my spirit that is upon you, and my words that I have placed in your mouth shall not depart from your mouth, or* from the mouths* of your _⌊children_⌋,* or* from the mouths* of _⌊your children's children_⌋,"* says Yahweh, "from now on and forever."

²⁴ "As I live," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, "surely if Coniah, the son of Jehoiakim, the king of Judah, were the seal on my right hand, surely from there I would wrench you off.

¹¹ And Yahweh _⌊utters_⌋* his voice before his army, because his encampment is very large; strong is the one who carries out his decree, for great is the day of Yahweh and exceedingly fearful. Who can endure it?

⁵ And they do all their deeds in order to be seen by people, for they make their phylacteries broad and make their* tassels long.

⁸ But what does it say? "The word is near to you, in your mouth and in your heart"* (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim),

⁸ Because of this her plagues will come in one day— death and mourning and famine— and she will be burned up with fire, because the Lord God who passes judgment on her is powerful!"

²⁴ "And you will keep this event as a rule for you and for your children forever.* ²⁵ _⌊And_⌋* when you come into the land that Yahweh will give to you, as he said, you will keep this _⌊religious custom_⌋.*

⁶ And on the fifteenth day of this month is Yahweh's Feast of Unleavened Bread; for seven days you shall eat unleavened bread.

³ You shall not eat _⌊with it_⌋* anything leavened; seven days you shall eat _⌊with it_⌋* unleavened bread of affliction, because in haste you went out from the land of Egypt, so that you will remember the day of your going out from the land of Egypt all the days of your life. ⁴ And leaven shall not be seen with* you in any of your territory* for seven days, and none of the meat that you will slaughter on the evening on the first day shall remain overnight until morning.

⁵ And when Yahweh brings you to the land of the Canaanites* and the Hittites* and the Amorites* and the Hivites* and the Jebusites*—which he swore to your ancestors* to give to you, a land flowing with milk and honey—you will perform this service in this month.

² "Consecrate to me every firstborn, the first offspring of every womb among the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* among humans* and among domestic animals;* _⌊it belongs to me_⌋."*

²⁹ " 'You will not delay the fullness of your harvest and the juice from your press; you will give me the firstborn of your sons.

¹⁹ Every first offspring of a womb is for me—all of your male livestock, the first offspring of cattle and small livestock.

¹² "I myself receive the Levites from the midst of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* in the place of all the firstborn of the offspring of the womb from the _⌊Israelites_⌋.* The Levites will be mine

¹⁷ For every firstborn among the _⌊Israelites_⌋* is mine, both humankind and animal. On the day I destroyed every firstborn in the land of Egypt I consecrated them to me,

³⁰ And also what is first of all of the firstfruits of everything, and of all of the contribution of everything from all of your contributions, to the priest _⌊it belongs_⌋,* and what is first of your dough you shall give to the priest, so that a blessing may rest on your house.

³ Speak to all the community of Israel, saying, 'On the tenth of this month, they will each take for themselves _⌊a lamb for the family_⌋,* a lamb for the household.

²¹ And Moses called all the elders of Israel, and he said to them, "Select and take for yourselves sheep for your clans and slaughter the Passover sacrifice.

²⁰ But the first offspring of a donkey you will redeem with small livestock, and if you will not redeem it, you will break its neck. Every firstborn of your sons you will redeem, and you will not appear before me empty-handed.

⁴⁶ And the ransom of the two hundred and seventy-three of the firstborn of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* who are excessive over the Levites, ⁴⁷ you will receive five shekels a person, in the sanctuary shekel; you will collect twenty gerahs* per shekel. ⁴⁸ You will give the money to Aaron, and to his sons the ransom of the ones who are excessive among them." ⁴⁹ And Moses received the money of the redemption from the ones who were excessive from those redeemed of the Levites. ⁵⁰ From the firstborn of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* he took the money, one thousand three hundred and sixty-five shekels, in the sanctuary shekel. ⁵¹ And Moses gave the money of the ransom to Aaron and to his sons according to the _⌊word_⌋* of Yahweh just as Yahweh commanded Moses.

¹⁵ All the first offspring of a womb of any creature that they offer to Yahweh, whether human or animal, will be yours; you will surely redeem the firstborn of the human and the unclean firstborn of the animal. ¹⁶ As to their price of redemption, from _⌊a one-month-old_⌋* you will redeem them according to your proper value, five shekels of silver according to the shekel of the sanctuary, which is twenty gerah. ¹⁷ Only the firstborn of an ox or the firstborn of a sheep or the firstborn of a goat you will not redeem; they are holy. Their blood you will sprinkle over the altar, and their fat you will turn into smoke as an offering made by fire, a fragrance of appeasement for Yahweh.

⁴ These are those who have not been defiled with women, for they are virgins. These are the ones who follow the Lamb wherever he goes. These were bought from humanity as first fruits to God and to the Lamb,

³³ And my righteousness will answer for me _⌊later_⌋* when you come concerning my wages before you. Every one that is not speckled or spotted among the goats, or dark-colored among the sheep shall be stolen if it is with me."

⁹ And it will be as a sign on your hand and as a memorial between your eyes so that the law of Yahweh will be in your mouth, that with a strong hand Yahweh brought you out from Egypt.

²⁰ "When your child* asks you in the future, _⌊saying_⌋,* 'What is the meaning of the legal provisions and the rules and the regulations that Yahweh our God commanded for you?' ²¹ Then you shall say to your child,* 'We were slaves of Pharaoh in Egypt, and Yahweh brought us out from Egypt with a strong hand. ²² And Yahweh gave great and awesome signs and wonders in Egypt against Pharaoh and against his entire household _⌊in our presence_⌋.* ²³ But he brought us out from there in order to bring us here to give us the land that he swore to our ancestors.* ²⁴ And so Yahweh commanded us to observe all of these rules and to revere Yahweh our God _⌊for our benefit_⌋* _⌊all the days that we live_⌋,* _⌊as it is today_⌋.*

⁶ so that this may be a reminder* among you. When your children ask in the future, saying, '_⌊What do these stones mean to you_⌋?'*

²¹ And he said to the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* "When your children ask in the future _⌊their parents_⌋,* '_⌊What is the meaning of these stones_⌋?'* ²² you will let your children know by saying, 'Israel crossed this Jordan on dry ground.' ²³ For Yahweh your God dried up the waters of the Jordan before you, until you had crossed, just as Yahweh your God did to the _⌊Red Sea_⌋,* which he dried up before us until we had crossed over, ²⁴ so that all the peoples of the earth may know that the hand of Yahweh is strong, so that you may fear Yahweh your God _⌊forever_⌋."*

²⁴ But in fact, we have done this because of anxiety, because of a reason, saying, 'In the future your children may say to our children, '_⌊What is the relationship between you and Yahweh the God of Israel_⌋?*

⁴ One generation will laud your works to another, and will declare your mighty deeds.

²⁹ _⌊And_⌋* in the middle of the night, Yahweh struck all of the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh sitting on his throne to the firstborn of the captive who was in the prison house and every firstborn of an animal.

¹³ And the blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are, and I will see the blood, and I will pass over you, and there will not be a destructive plague among you when I strike the land of Egypt.

⁷ And you shall recite them to your children, and you shall talk about them at the time of your living in your house and at the time of your going on the road and at the time of your lying down and at the time of your rising up. ⁸ And you shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as an emblem between your eyes. ⁹ And you shall write them on the doorframe of your house and on your gates.

¹⁸ "And you shall put these, my words, on your heart and on your inner self,* and you shall bind them as a sign on your hand and let them be as an emblem between your eyes.

⁸ And Yahweh brought us out from Egypt with a strong hand and an outstretched arm and with great terror and with signs and with wonders.

¹¹ And they said to Moses, "Because there are no graves in Egypt? Is that why you have taken us to die in the desert? What is this you have done to us by bringing us out from Egypt! ¹² Isn't this the word we spoke to you in Egypt, saying, 'Leave us alone so that we can serve Egypt!' because serving Egypt is better for us than our dying in the desert."

² And all the community of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* grumbled against Moses and against Aaron in the desert. ³ And the _⌊Israelites_⌋* said to them, "_⌊If only we had died_⌋* by the hand of Yahweh in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the pots* of meat, when we ate bread _⌊until we were full_⌋,* because you have brought us out to this desert to kill all of this assembly with hunger."

¹ Then all the community _⌊lifted up their voices_⌋,* and the people wept during that night. ² And all the _⌊Israelites_⌋* grumbled against Moses and Aaron, and all the community said to them, "If only we had died in the land of Egypt or in this desert! ³ Why did Yahweh bring us into this land to fall by the sword? Our wives and our little children will become plunder; would it not be better for us to return to Egypt?" ⁴ _⌊They said to each other_⌋,* "Let us appoint a leader, and we will return to Egypt."

¹⁶ Except, he may _⌊not make numerous_⌋* for himself horses, and he may not allow the people to to go to Egypt _⌊in order to increase horses_⌋,* for Yahweh has said to you that _⌊you may never return_⌋.*

⁸ And the officials shall continue to speak to the troops, and they shall say, '_⌊What man_⌋* is afraid _⌊and disheartened_⌋?* Let him go, and let him return to his house, and let him not cause the heart of his brothers to melt* like his.'

³ So then, please proclaim in the _⌊hearing_⌋* of the troops, saying, 'Whoever is fearful and trembling, let him return and depart from the Mount of Gilead.'" About twenty-two thousand troops returned, and ten thousand remained.

⁴⁷ and then they return their heart in the land where they have been taken captive and they return and plead to you in the land of their captivity, saying, 'We have sinned and we did wrong. We acted wickedly,'

¹⁷ They refused to listen and did not remember your wonders that you did among them. They stiffened their neck and in their rebellion _⌊determined_⌋* to return to their slavery. But you are a God of forgiveness, gracious and compassionate, _⌊slow to anger_⌋,* abundant in loyal love, so you did not abandon them.

²⁷ Whoever does not carry his own cross and _⌊follow_⌋* me _⌊cannot be_⌋* my disciple. ²⁸ For which of you, wanting to build a tower, does not first sit down and* calculate the cost to see if he has enough* _⌊to complete it_⌋?* ²⁹ _⌊Otherwise_⌋* after* he has laid the foundation and is not able to finish it,* all who see it* will begin to ridicule him, ³⁰ saying, 'This man began to build and was not able to finish!' ³¹ Or what king, going out to engage another king in battle, does not sit down first and* deliberate whether he is able with ten thousand to oppose the one coming against him with twenty thousand. ³² But if not, while* the other is still far away, he sends an ambassador and* asks _⌊for terms of_⌋* peace.

³⁹ to whom our fathers were not willing to become obedient, but rejected him* and turned back in their hearts to Egypt,

³⁸ but Paul held the opinion they should not take this one along, who departed from them in Pamphylia and did not accompany them in the work.

⁵¹ And it was on exactly this day Yahweh brought the _⌊Israelites_⌋* out from the land of Egypt by their divisions.

² "Speak to the _⌊Israelites_⌋* so that they turn and encamp before Pi-hahiroth, between Migdol _⌊and the sea_⌋;* before Baal Zephon, which is opposite it, you will camp by the sea.

⁶ They journeyed from Succoth and camped in Etham, which is on the edge of the desert. ⁷ Then they set out from Etham and returned to Pi-Hahiroth, which faces Baal Zephon, and they camped before Migdol. ⁸ They set out from Pi-Hahiroth and went through the midst of the sea into the desert; and they went a journey of three days into the desert of Etham and camped at Marah.

¹⁰ He found him in a desert land, and in a howling, desert wasteland; he _⌊encircled him_⌋,* he cared for him, he protected him like the _⌊apple_⌋* of his eye.

¹⁴ Your wives, your little children, and your livestock, they will remain in the land that Moses gave to you beyond the Jordan. _⌊All of the best fighting men_⌋* will cross armed in front of your families; they will help you

⁷ and led them by a straight way to get to a city to inhabit.

²¹ And Israel said to Joseph, "Behold, I am about to die, but God will be with you and will bring you back to the land of your ancestors.*

²⁴ And Joseph said to his brothers, "I am about to die, but God will certainly visit you and bring you up from this land to the land that he swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob." ²⁵ Then Joseph made the sons of Israel swear an oath, saying, "God will surely visit you, and you shall bring up my bones from here."

³¹ And the people believed when they heard that Yahweh had attended to the _⌊Israelites_⌋* and that he had seen their misery, and they knelt down and they worshiped.

³² The bones of Jacob, which the _⌊Israelites_⌋* had brought out from Egypt, they buried at Shechem, in a piece of land that Jacob had bought from the children of Hamor, the father of Shechem, for one hundred pieces of money;* it became an inheritance for the descendants* of Joseph.

⁵⁸ And her neighbors and relatives heard that _⌊the Lord had shown his great mercy to her_⌋,* and they rejoiced with her.

¹⁶ And fear seized them all, and they began to glorify* God, saying, "A great prophet has appeared among us!" and "God has visited to help his people!"

¹⁶ And they were brought back to Shechem and buried in the tomb that Abraham had bought for a sum of silver from the sons of Hamor in Shechem.

³⁷ And the _⌊Israelites_⌋* set out from Rameses to Succoth; the men were about six hundred thousand on foot,* besides dependents.

⁵ Then the _⌊Israelites_⌋* set out from Rameses, and they camped in Succoth. ⁶ They journeyed from Succoth and camped in Etham, which is on the edge of the desert.

¹⁹ And the angel of God who was going before the camp of Israel set out and went behind them. And the column of cloud set out ahead of them, and it stood still behind them, ²⁰ so that it came between the camp of Egypt and the camp of Israel. And _⌊it was a dark cloud_⌋,* but it gave light to the night,* so that _⌊neither approached the other_⌋* all night. ²¹ And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and Yahweh moved the sea* with a strong east wind all night, and he made the sea become dry ground, and the waters were divided. ²² And the _⌊Israelites_⌋* entered the middle of the sea on the dry land. The waters were a wall for them on their right and on their left. ²³ And the Egyptians gave chase* and entered after them—all the horses of Pharaoh, his chariots, and his charioteers—into the middle of the sea. ²⁴ And during the morning watch, Yahweh looked down to the Egyptian camp from in the column of fire and cloud, and he threw the Egyptian camp into a panic.

⁹ _⌊And_⌋* at the entering of Moses into the tent the column of cloud would descend and stand at the opening of the tent, and he would speak with Moses. ¹⁰ And all the people would see the column of cloud standing at the opening of the tent, and all the people would rise and bow in worship, each at the opening of his tent.

³⁴ And the cloud covered the tent of assembly, and the glory of Yahweh filled the tabernacle. ³⁵ And Moses was unable to go into the tent of assembly because the cloud settled on it and the glory of Yahweh filled the tabernacle. ³⁶ And when the cloud was lifted from the tabernacle, the _⌊Israelites_⌋* set out on all their journeys. ³⁷ But if the cloud was not lifted, they did not set out until the day of its being lifted. ³⁸ For the cloud of Yahweh was on the tabernacle by day, and fire was on it by night before the eyes of all the house of Israel throughout all their journeys.

¹⁵ And on a day setting up the tabernacle, the cloud covered the tent of the tabernacle, the tent of the testimony; in the evening it was on the tabernacle as an appearance of fire until morning. ¹⁶ So it was* continually; the cloud would cover it and the appearance of fire by night. ¹⁷ Whenever the cloud lifted up from on the tent, after that the _⌊Israelites_⌋* would set out, and in the place where the cloud dwelled, there the _⌊Israelites_⌋* camped. ¹⁸ On the _⌊command of Yahweh_⌋* the _⌊Israelites_⌋* would set out, and on the _⌊command of Yahweh_⌋* they encamped; all the days that the cloud dwelled on the tabernacle they encamped. ¹⁹ And when the cloud prolonged on the tabernacle many days the _⌊Israelites_⌋* kept the kept requirement of Yahweh and did not set out. ²⁰ When the cloud _⌊remained_⌋* a number of days on the tabernacle, on the _⌊command of Yahweh_⌋* they encamped; and on the _⌊command of Yahweh_⌋* they set out. ²¹ When the cloud _⌊remained_⌋* from evening until morning, and the cloud lifted up in the morning, they would set out, or if it remained in the daytime and at night, when the cloud lifted up they set out. ²² When it was two days, a month, _⌊or a year_⌋* that the cloud prolonged to dwell on the tabernacle, the _⌊Israelites_⌋* encamped, and they did not set out; when it lifted up they set out. ²³ On the _⌊command of Yahweh_⌋* they encamped, and on the _⌊command of Yahweh_⌋* they set out. They kept the requirement of Yahweh, on the _⌊command of Yahweh_⌋* in the hand of Moses.*

³⁴ and the cloud of Yahweh was over them by day when they set out from the camp.

¹⁴ and they will _⌊tell it_⌋* to the inhabitants of this land. They heard that you, Yahweh, are in the midst of this people, that you are seen eye to eye, and your cloud is standing over them, and in a column of cloud you go before them by day and in a column of fire at night.

³³ _⌊who goes_⌋* _⌊before you_⌋* on your* way, seeking a place for your encampment, in fire at night and in a cloud by day, to show you the way that _⌊you should go_⌋.*

¹² You led them by day with a column of cloud and with a column of fire by night, to give them light on the way that they were to go.

¹⁹ But you in your many mercies did not abandon them in the desert. The column of cloud that was over them in the day did not cease to leave them on the way, and the column of fire by night that gave light to them on the way that they went.

¹⁴ And he led them with the cloud by day, and all night with a fiery light.

⁷ He spoke to them in the pillar of cloud. They kept his testimonies and the statute he gave to them.

³⁹ He spread out a cloud for a covering, and fire to give light at night.

⁵ Then Yahweh will create over all of the site* of _⌊Mount Zion_⌋* and over her assembly a cloud by day and smoke and the brightness of flaming fire by night. Indeed, over all the glory there will be a canopy, ⁶ and it will be a shelter for shade from the heat by day, and a refuge and a hiding place from rainstorm and from rain.

¹ For I do not want you to be ignorant, brothers, that our fathers were all under the cloud and all went through the sea, ² and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea,

⁵ Yahweh is your protector; Yahweh is your shade at your right hand. ⁶ The sun will not strike you by day, nor the moon by night. ⁷ Yahweh will protect you from all evil;* he will protect your life. ⁸ Yahweh will protect your going out and your coming in from now until forever.

¹ And I saw another powerful angel descending from heaven, wrapped in a cloud, and a rainbow over his head, and his face was like the sun, and his feet were like pillars of fire,*
