¹ Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble. ² He comes forth like a flower, and is cut down: he flees also as a shadow, and continues not. ³ And do you open your eyes upon such a one, and bring me into judgment with you? ⁴ Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? no one. ⁵ Seeing his days are determined, the number of his months are with you, you have appointed his bounds that he cannot pass; ⁶ Turn from him, that he may rest, till he shall accomplish, as a hireling, his day. ⁷ For there is hope for a tree, if it is cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender shoots thereof will not cease. ⁸ Though its root grows old in the earth, and its stump dies in the ground; ⁹ Yet at the scent of water it will bud, and bring forth branches like a plant. ¹⁰ But man dies, and wastes away: yea, man expires, and where is he? ¹¹ As the waters fail from the sea, and the river decays and dries up: ¹² So man lies down, and rises not: till the heavens be no more, they shall not awake, nor be raised out of their sleep. ¹³ O that you would hide me in the grave, that you would conceal me, until your wrath is past, that you would appoint me a set time, and remember me! ¹⁴ If a man dies, shall he live again? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change comes. ¹⁵ You shall call, and I will answer you: you will have a desire to the work of your hands. ¹⁶ For now you number my steps: do not watch over my sin. ¹⁷ My transgression is sealed up in a bag, and you sew up my iniquity. ¹⁸ And surely the mountain falling, comes to nothing, and the rock is removed out of its place. ¹⁹ The waters wear the stones: you wash away the things which grow out of the dust of the earth; and you destroy the hope of man. ²⁰ You prevail forever against him, and he passes: you change his countenance, and send him away. ²¹ His sons come to honor, and he knows it not; and they are brought low, but he perceives it not of them. ²² But his flesh upon him shall have pain, and his soul within him shall mourn.

⁹ And Jacob said unto Pharaoh, The days of the years of my pilgrimage are a hundred and thirty years: few and evil have the days of the years of my life been, and have not attained unto the days of the years of the life of my fathers in the days of their pilgrimage.

⁷ Yet man is born unto trouble, as the sparks fly upward.

¹ Is there not an appointed time to man upon earth? are not his days also like the days of a hireling?

⁶ My days are swifter than a weaver’s shuttle, and are spent without hope.

²⁵ Now my days are swifter than a runner: they flee away, they see no good.

¹⁴ What is man, that he should be clean? and he who is born of a woman, that he should be righteous?

⁴ How then can man be justified with God? or how can he be clean that is born of a woman?

⁵ Behold, you have made my days as a handbreadth; and my age is as nothing before you: verily every man at his best state is altogether vanity. Selah.

⁵ Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me.

¹⁷ Therefore I hated life; because the work that is done under the sun is grievous unto me: for all is vanity and like grasping the wind.

²³ For all his days are sorrows, and his travail grief; yea, his heart takes not rest in the night. This is also vanity.

¹¹ Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there has not risen a greater than John the Baptist: yet he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

¹⁵ For we are strangers before you, and sojourners, as were all our fathers: our days on the earth are as a shadow, and there is no abiding.

⁹ (For we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, because our days upon earth are a shadow:)

²⁵ Now my days are swifter than a runner: they flee away, they see no good. ²⁶ They are passed away as the swift ships: as the eagle that hastens to the prey.

⁵ You carry them away as with a flood; they are like a sleep: in the morning they are like grass which grows up. ⁶ In the morning it flourishes, and grows up; in the evening it is cut down, and withers. ⁷ For we are consumed by your anger, and by your wrath are we troubled. ⁸ You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your countenance. ⁹ For all our days are passed away in your wrath: we spend our years as a tale that is told.

⁷ When the wicked spring as the grass, and when all the workers of iniquity do flourish; it is that they shall be destroyed forever:

¹² The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.

¹¹ My days are like a shadow that declines; and I am withered like grass.

¹⁵ As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flourishes. ¹⁶ For the wind passes over it, and it is gone; and the place there shall know it no more.

⁴ Man is like to vanity: his days are as a shadow that passes away.

¹³ But it shall not be well with the wicked, neither shall he prolong his days, which are as a shadow; because he fears not before God.

⁶ The voice said, } Cry. { And he said, What shall I cry? {} All flesh is grass, and all its loveliness is as the flower of the field: ⁷ The grass withers, the flower fades: because the breath of the LORD blows upon it: surely the people are grass. ⁸ The grass withers, the flower fades: but the word of our God shall stand forever.

¹⁰ But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away. ¹¹ For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withers the grass, and its flower falls, and the beauty of the appearance of it perishes: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.

¹⁴ Whereas you know not what shall be tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor, that appears for a little time, and then vanishes away.

²⁴ For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower thereof falls away:

¹⁷ What is man, that you should magnify him? and that you should set your heart upon him? ¹⁸ And that you should visit him every morning, and test him every moment?

¹⁹ If I speak of strength, lo, he is strong: and if of justice, who shall set me a time to plead? ²⁰ If I justify myself, my own mouth shall condemn me: if I say, I am blameless, it shall also prove me perverse.

³² For he is not a man, as I am, that I should answer him, and we should come together in trial.

²⁵ Will you break a leaf driven to and fro? and will you pursue the dry stubble?

²⁷ You put my feet also in the stocks, and watch closely all my paths; you set a bound to the soles of my feet.

⁴ What is man, that you are mindful of him? and the son of man, that you visit him?

² And enter not into judgment with your servant: for in your sight shall no man living be justified.

³ LORD, what is man, that you take knowledge of him! or the son of man, that you make account of him!

¹⁹ Now we know that whatsoever things the law says, it says to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.

³ And Adam lived a hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, after his image; and called his name Seth:

⁴ How then can man be justified with God? or how can he be clean that is born of a woman? ⁵ Behold even to the moon, and it shines not; yea, the stars are not pure in his sight. ⁶ How much less man, that is a worm? and the son of man, who is a worm?

⁵ You carry them away as with a flood; they are like a sleep: in the morning they are like grass which grows up.

³⁵ And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Spirit shall come upon you, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow you: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of you shall be called the Son of God.

⁶ That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

¹² Therefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

⁸ So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. ⁹ But you are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

³ Among whom also we all had our behavior in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

¹⁰ In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind.

¹⁴ If a man dies, shall he live again? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change comes.

²¹ For what pleasure has he in his house after him, when the number of his months is cut off in the midst?

¹³ But he is of one mind, and who can turn him? and what his soul desires, even that he does. ¹⁴ For he performs the thing that is appointed for me: and many such things are with him.

⁴ LORD, make me to know my end, and the measure of my days, what it is; that I may know how frail I am.

⁹ You have set a bound that they may not pass over; that they turn not again to cover the earth.

²⁹ You hide your face, they are troubled: you take away their breath, they die, and return to their dust.

³⁵ And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he does according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can restrain his hand, or say unto him, What do you?

²⁶ This is the interpretation of the matter: MENE; God has numbered your kingdom, and finished it.

³⁰ In that night was Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans slain.

²⁴ Seventy weeks are determined upon your people and upon your holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.

³⁶ And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak astonishing things against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the wrath is accomplished: for what has been determined shall be done.

²⁰ But God said unto him, You fool, this night your soul shall be required of you: then whose shall those things be, which you have prepared?

²⁶ And has made of one blood all nations of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;

²⁷ And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

¹⁸ I am he that lives, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive forevermore, Amen; and have the keys of hades and of death.

⁷ And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things says he that is holy, he that is true, he that has the key of David, he that opens, and no man shuts; and shuts, and no man opens;

¹ Is there not an appointed time to man upon earth? are not his days also like the days of a hireling? ² As a servant earnestly desires the shadow, and as a hireling looks for the reward of his work:

¹⁶ I loathe it; I would not live always: let me alone; for my days are vanity.

¹⁹ How long will you not look away from me, nor let me alone till I swallow down my spittle?

²⁰ Are not my days few? cease then, and let me alone, that I may take comfort a little,

¹³ O spare me, that I may recover strength, before I go away, and be no more.

¹ For the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is a householder, who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard. ² And when he had agreed with the laborers for a penny a day, he sent them into his vineyard. ³ And he went out about the third hour, and saw others standing idle in the marketplace, ⁴ And said unto them; Go you also into the vineyard, and whatsoever is right I will give you. And they went their way. ⁵ Again he went out about the sixth and ninth hour, and did likewise. ⁶ And about the eleventh hour he went out, and found others standing idle, and said unto them, Why stand you here all the day idle? ⁷ They said unto him, Because no man has hired us. He said unto them, Go you also into the vineyard; and whatsoever is right, that shall you receive. ⁸ So when evening came, the lord of the vineyard said unto his steward, Call the laborers, and give them their hire, beginning from the last unto the first.

¹⁰ He has destroyed me on every side, and I am gone: and my hope has he removed like a tree.

¹ And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots:

⁶ He shall cause them that come from Jacob to take root: Israel shall blossom and bud, and fill the face of the world with fruit.

¹⁵ Nevertheless leave the stump of its roots in the earth, even with a band of iron and bronze, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the dew of heaven, and let his portion be with the beasts in the grass of the earth:

²³ And since the king saw a watcher and a holy one coming down from heaven, and saying, Hew the tree down, and destroy it; yet leave the stump of its roots in the earth, even with a band of iron and bronze, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the dew of heaven, and let his portion be with the beasts of the field, till seven times pass over him; ²⁴ This is the interpretation, O king, and this is the decree of the most High, which has come upon my lord the king: ²⁵ That they shall drive you from men, and your dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field, and they shall make you eat grass like oxen, and they shall wet you with the dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass over you, till you know that the most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever he will.

¹⁹ Your dead men shall live, together with my dead body shall they arise. Awake and sing, you that dwell in dust: for your dew is like the dew of herbs, and the earth shall cast out the dead.

²⁴ Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it abides alone: but if it dies, it brings forth much fruit.

³⁶ You fool, that which you sow is not made alive, except it die:

³ And say, Thus says the Lord GOD; A great eagle with great wings, longwinged, full of feathers, which had various colors, came unto Lebanon, and took the highest branch of the cedar: ⁴ He cropped off the top of its young twigs, and carried it into a land of trade; he set it in a city of merchants. ⁵ He took also of the seed of the land, and planted it in a fruitful field; he placed it by great waters, and set it as a willow tree. ⁶ And it grew, and became a spreading vine of low stature, whose branches turned toward him, and its roots were under him: so it became a vine, and brought forth branches, and shot forth sprigs. ⁷ There was also another great eagle with great wings and many feathers: and, behold, this vine did bend her roots toward him, and shot forth her branches toward him, that he might water it by the bed of its planting. ⁸ It was planted in a good soil by great waters, that it might bring forth branches, and that it might bear fruit, that it might be a splendid vine. ⁹ Say, Thus says the Lord GOD; Shall it prosper? shall he not pull up its roots, and cut off its fruit, so that it withers? it shall wither in all its leaves of spring, not requiring great power or many people to pluck it up by its roots. ¹⁰ Yea, behold, being planted, shall it prosper? shall it not utterly wither, when the east wind touches it? it shall wither in the bed where it grew.

²² Thus says the Lord GOD; I will also take of the highest branch of the high cedar, and will set it; I will crop off from the top of his young twigs a tender one, and will plant it upon a high and prominent mountain: ²³ In the mountain of the height of Israel will I plant it: and it shall bring forth boughs, and bear fruit, and be a splendid cedar: and under it shall dwell all fowl of every sort; in the shadow of its branches shall they dwell. ²⁴ And all the trees of the field shall know that I the LORD have brought down the high tree, have exalted the low tree, have dried up the green tree, and have made the dry tree to flourish: I the LORD have spoken and have done it.

¹⁰ Your mother is like a vine in your vineyard, planted by the waters: she was fruitful and full of branches by reason of many waters.

¹⁷ And if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive tree, were grafted in among them, and with them partake of the root and fatness of the olive tree; ¹⁸ Boast not against the branches. But if you boast, you bear not the root, but the root you. ¹⁹ You will say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be grafted in. ²⁰ Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and you stand by faith. Be not arrogant, but fear: ²¹ For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also not spare you. ²² Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them who fell, severity; but toward you, goodness, if you continue in his goodness: otherwise you also shall be cut off. ²³ And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be grafted in: for God is able to graft them in again. ²⁴ For if you were cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and were grafted contrary to nature into a good olive tree: how much more shall these, who are the natural branches, be grafted into their own olive tree?

³³ And when Jacob had made an end of commanding his sons, he gathered up his feet into the bed, and died, and was gathered unto his people.

¹¹ Why died I not from the womb? why did I not expire when I came out of the womb?

⁷ O remember that my life is a breath: my eye shall no more see good. ⁸ The eye of him that has seen me shall see me no more: your eyes are upon me, and I am not. ⁹ As the cloud is consumed and vanishes away: so he that goes down to the grave shall come up no more. ¹⁰ He shall return no more to his house, neither shall his place know him any more.

¹⁸ Why then have you brought me forth out of the womb? Oh that I had died, and no eye had seen me!

²⁰ But the eyes of the wicked shall fail, and they shall not escape, and their hope shall be as one dying.

¹² So man lies down, and rises not: till the heavens be no more, they shall not awake, nor be raised out of their sleep.

¹³ If I wait, the grave is my house: I have made my bed in the darkness. ¹⁴ I have said to corruption, You are my father: to the worm, You are my mother, and my sister. ¹⁵ And where is now my hope? as for my hope, who shall see it? ¹⁶ They shall go down to the gates of the pit, when our rest together is in the dust.

²⁶ And though after my skin is thus destroyed, yet in my flesh shall I see God:

³² The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: but the righteous has hope in his death.

⁵⁰ Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up his spirit.

²² And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; ²³ And in hades he lifted up his eyes, being in torment, and seeing Abraham far off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

¹⁰ Then she fell down immediately at his feet, and died: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband.

¹⁵ My brethren have dealt deceitfully as a brook, and as the stream of brooks that pass away; ¹⁶ Which are black by reason of the ice, and in which the snow is hid: ¹⁷ At what time they become warm, they vanish: when it is hot, they vanish out of their place. ¹⁸ The paths of their way turn aside; they go nowhere, and perish.

⁵ And the waters shall fail from the sea, and the river shall be wasted and dried up.

¹⁸ Why is my pain perpetual, and my wound incurable, which refuses to be healed? will you be altogether unto me as a deceitful brook, and as waters that fail?

¹³ For now should I have lain still and been quiet, I should have slept: then would I have been at rest,

²¹ And why do you not pardon my transgression, and take away my iniquity? for now shall I sleep in the dust; and you shall seek me in the morning, but I shall not be.

²¹ Before I go where I shall not return, even to the land of darkness and the shadow of death; ²² A land of darkness, as darkness itself; and of the shadow of death, without any order, and where the light is as darkness.

²⁵ For I know that my redeemer lives, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: ²⁶ And though after my skin is thus destroyed, yet in my flesh shall I see God: ²⁷ Whom I shall see for myself, and my eyes shall behold, and not another; though my heart be consumed within me.

²³ For I know that you will bring me to death, and to the house appointed for all living.

²⁶ They shall perish, but you shall endure: yea, all of them shall grow old like a garment; as a vesture shall you change them, and they shall be changed:

¹⁹ For that which befalls the sons of men befalls beasts; the same thing befalls them: as the one dies, so dies the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man has no advantage over a beast: for all is vanity. ²⁰ All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again. ²¹ Who knows the spirit of man that goes upward, and the spirit of the beast that goes downward to the earth?

⁵ Also when they shall be afraid of that which is high, and terrors are in the way, and the almond tree shall blossom, and the grasshopper shall be a burden, and desire shall fail: because man goes to his eternal home, and the mourners go about the streets:

⁶ Lift up your eyes to the heavens, and look upon the earth beneath: for the heavens shall vanish away like smoke, and the earth shall grow old like a garment, and they that dwell in it shall die in like manner: but my salvation shall be forever, and my righteousness shall not be abolished.

¹⁷ For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.

²² For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, says the LORD, so shall your descendants and your name remain.

² And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.

³⁵ Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

¹¹ These things said he: and after that he said unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleeps; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep. ¹² Then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleeps, he shall do well. ¹³ However Jesus spoke of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep.

²¹ Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God has spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began.

²⁰ For the creation was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who has subjected the same in hope,

¹⁴ Therefore he says, Awake you that sleep, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give you light.

¹⁴ For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also who sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. ¹⁵ For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not precede them who are asleep.

⁷ But the heavens and the earth, which now are, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.

¹⁰ But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. ¹¹ Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in all holy conduct and godliness, ¹² Looking for and hastening unto the coming of the day of God, in which the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? ¹³ Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, in which dwells righteousness.

¹¹ And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.

¹ And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.

¹ And God remembered Noah, and every living thing, and all the cattle that were with him in the ark: and God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters subsided;

¹⁷ There the wicked cease from troubling; and there the weary are at rest. ¹⁸ There the prisoners rest together; they hear not the voice of the oppressor. ¹⁹ The small and great are there; and the servant is free from his master.

⁴ Remember me, O LORD, with the favor that you bear unto your people: O visit me with your salvation;

¹ And in that day you shall say, O LORD, I will praise you: though you were angry with me, your anger is turned away, and you comforted me.

²⁰ Come, my people, enter you into your chambers, and shut your doors about you: hide yourself as it were for a little moment, until the indignation is past. ²¹ For, behold, the LORD comes out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity: the earth also shall disclose her bloodshed, and shall no more cover her slain.

¹ The righteous perishes, and no man lays it to heart: and merciful men are taken away, none considering that the righteous is taken away from the evil to come. ² He shall enter into peace: they shall rest in their beds, each one walking in his uprightness.

³² But of that day and that hour knows no man, no, not the angels who are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.

⁴² And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when you come into your kingdom.

⁷ And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father has put in his own power.

³¹ Because he has appointed a day, in which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he has ordained; and of this he has given assurance unto all men, in that he has raised him from the dead.

¹⁵ Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will defend my own ways before him.

²⁵ The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeks him. ²⁶ It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.

¹ The hand of the LORD was upon me, and carried me out in the spirit of the LORD, and set me down in the midst of the valley which was full of bones, ² And caused me to pass by them round about: and, behold, there were very many in the open valley; and, lo, they were very dry. ³ And he said unto me, Son of man, can these bones live? And I answered, O Lord GOD, you know. ⁴ Again he said unto me, Prophesy to these bones, and say unto them, O you dry bones, hear the word of the LORD. ⁵ Thus says the Lord GOD unto these bones; Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and you shall live: ⁶ And I will lay sinews upon you, and will bring up flesh upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and you shall live; and you shall know that I am the LORD. ⁷ So I prophesied as I was commanded: and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and behold a shaking, and the bones came together, bone to its bone. ⁸ And when I beheld, lo, the sinews and the flesh came up upon them, and the skin covered them over: but there was no breath in them. ⁹ Then said he unto me, Prophesy unto the wind, prophesy, son of man, and say to the wind, Thus says the Lord GOD; Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they may live. ¹⁰ So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived, and stood up upon their feet, an exceedingly great army. ¹¹ Then he said unto me, Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel: behold, they say, Our bones are dried, and our hope is lost: we are cut off on our part. ¹² Therefore prophesy and say unto them, Thus says the Lord GOD; Behold, O my people, I will open your graves, and cause you to come up out of your graves, and bring you into the land of Israel. ¹³ And you shall know that I am the LORD, when I have opened your graves, O my people, and brought you up out of your graves, ¹⁴ And shall put my spirit in you, and you shall live, and I shall place you in your own land: then shall you know that I the LORD have spoken it, and performed it, says the LORD.

²⁹ Jesus answered and said unto them, You do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God. ³⁰ For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven. ³¹ But concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying, ³² I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.

²⁸ Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, ²⁹ And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of condemnation.

⁸ Why should it be thought a thing incredible with you, that God should raise the dead?

⁴² So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption: ⁴³ It is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power: ⁴⁴ It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.

⁵¹ Behold, I show you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, ⁵² In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

²¹ Who shall change our humble body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working by which he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.

¹⁴ For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also who sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. ¹⁵ For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not precede them who are asleep. ¹⁶ For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

⁷ Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, and has long patience for it, until he receives the early and latter rain. ⁸ Be also patient; establish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draws near.

¹³ And the sea gave up the dead who were in it; and death and hades delivered up the dead who were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.

³ Is it good unto you that you should oppress, that you should despise the work of your hands, and smile upon the counsel of the wicked?

⁸ Your hands have made me and fashioned me together totally; yet you do destroy me.

²² Then call, and I will answer: or let me speak, and you answer me.

⁴ He shall call to the heavens from above, and to the earth, that he may judge his people. ⁵ Gather my saints together unto me; those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice.

⁸ The LORD will perfect that which concerns me: your mercy, O LORD, endures forever: forsake not the works of your own hands.

¹⁷ Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

¹⁹ Therefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.

²⁸ And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.

⁶ That you inquire after my iniquity, and search after my sin?

¹⁴ If I sin, then you mark me, and you will not acquit me from my iniquity.

⁴ Does not he see my ways, and count all my steps?

¹¹ He puts my feet in the stocks, he marks all my paths.

²¹ For his eyes are upon the ways of man, and he sees all his steps.

⁶ They gather themselves together, they hide themselves, they mark my steps, when they wait for my soul.

¹ [To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.] O LORD, you have searched me, and known me. ² You know my downsitting and my uprising, you understand my thought afar off. ³ You search out my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways. ⁴ For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O LORD, you know it altogether.

²¹ For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and he ponders all his paths.

¹⁹ Great in counsel, and mighty in work: for your eyes are open upon all the ways of the sons of men: to give everyone according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings:

³⁴ Is not this laid up in store with me, and sealed up among my treasures?

¹⁹ God lays up his iniquity for his children: he recompenses him, and he shall know it.

¹² The iniquity of Ephraim is bound up; his sin is hid.

⁴ He tears himself in his anger: shall the earth be forsaken for you? and shall the rock be removed out of its place?

²⁵ Of old have you laid the foundation of the earth: and the heavens are the work of your hands. ²⁶ They shall perish, but you shall endure: yea, all of them shall grow old like a garment; as a vesture shall you change them, and they shall be changed:

¹² Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and measured out heaven with the span, and known the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance?

¹⁵ Behold, I will make you a new sharp threshing instrument having teeth: you shall thresh the mountains, and beat them small, and shall make the hills like chaff. ¹⁶ You shall fan them, and the wind shall carry them away, and the whirlwind shall scatter them: and you shall rejoice in the LORD, and shall glory in the Holy One of Israel.

¹⁰ For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from you, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, says the LORD that has mercy on you.

¹ Oh that you would rend the heavens, that you would come down, that the mountains might flow down at your presence.

²⁴ I beheld the mountains, and, lo, they trembled, and all the hills moved to and fro.

⁵¹ And, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks were split;

¹⁴ And the heavens departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.

⁸ And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood;

¹⁷ And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, in which is the breath of life, from under heaven; and everything that is in the earth shall die.

²¹ And all flesh died that moved upon the earth, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of beast, and of every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth, and every man: ²² All in whose nostrils was the breath of life, of all that was in the dry land, died. ²³ And every living thing was destroyed which was upon the face of the ground, both man, and cattle, and the creeping things, and the fowl of the heaven; and they were destroyed from the earth: and Noah only remained alive, and they that were with him in the ark.

⁸ For what is the hope of the hypocrite, though he has gained, when God takes away his soul?

⁶ And in my prosperity I said, I shall never be moved. ⁷ LORD, by your favor you have made my mountain to stand strong: you did hide your face, and I was troubled.

¹¹ Then he said unto me, Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel: behold, they say, Our bones are dried, and our hope is lost: we are cut off on our part.

¹⁹ And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease, eat, drink, and be merry. ²⁰ But God said unto him, You fool, this night your soul shall be required of you: then whose shall those things be, which you have prepared?

¹² And when they lifted up their eyes afar off, and knew him not, they lifted up their voice, and wept; and they tore every one his mantle, and sprinkled dust upon their heads toward heaven.

⁸ There is no man that has power over the spirit to retain the spirit; neither has he power in the day of death: and there is no release from that war; neither shall wickedness deliver those that are given to it.

⁸ Their appearance is now blacker than coal; they are not known in the streets: their skin cleaves to their bones; it is withered, it has become like a dry stick.

²⁰ And about the time of her death the women that stood by her said unto her, Fear not; for you have borne a son. But she answered not, neither did she regard it.

⁶ Surely every man walks in a vain show: surely they are in turmoil in vain: he heaps up riches, and knows not who shall gather them.

¹⁸ Yea, I hated all my labor in which I had toiled under the sun: because I must leave it unto the man that shall be after me. ¹⁹ And who knows whether he shall be a wise man or a fool? yet shall he have rule over all my labor in which I have labored, and in which I have shown myself wise under the sun. This is also vanity.

⁵ For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.

⁷ And of your sons that shall issue from you, whom you shall beget, shall they take away; and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon. ⁸ Then said Hezekiah to Isaiah, Good is the word of the LORD which you have spoken. He said moreover, For there shall be peace and truth in my days.

¹⁶ Doubtless you are our father, though Abraham is ignorant of us, and Israel acknowledges us not: you, O LORD, are our father, our redeemer; your name is from everlasting.

²⁰ My bone clings to my skin and to my flesh, and I have escaped by the skin of my teeth.

²² Why do you persecute me as God, and are not satisfied with my flesh?

¹⁹ He is chastened also with pain upon his bed, and the multitude of his bones with strong pain: ²⁰ So that his life abhors bread, and his soul the choicest food. ²¹ His flesh is consumed away, that it cannot be seen; and his bones that were not seen now stick out.

²³ And in hades he lifted up his eyes, being in torment, and seeing Abraham far off, and Lazarus in his bosom. ²⁴ And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
