¹ Maschil of Asaph. Why, O God, hast Thou cast us off for ever? Why doth Thine anger smoke against the flock of Thy pasture?

²⁰ (29:19) the LORD will not be willing to pardon him, but then the anger of the LORD and His jealousy shall be kindled against that man, and all the curse that is written in this book shall lie upon him, and the LORD shall blot out his name from under heaven;

¹ Why standest Thou afar off, O LORD? Why hidest Thou Thyself in times of trouble?

⁸ (18:9) Smoke arose up in His nostrils, and fire out of His mouth did devour; coals flamed forth from Him.

⁹ (42:10) I will say unto God my Rock: 'Why hast Thou forgotten me? Why go I mourning under the oppression of the enemy?'

¹¹ (42:12) Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why moanest thou within me? Hope thou in God; for I shall yet praise Him, the salvation of my countenance, and my God.

⁵ How long, O LORD, wilt Thou be angry for ever? How long will Thy jealousy burn like fire?

¹³ So we that are Thy people and the flock of Thy pasture will give Thee thanks for ever; we will tell of Thy praise to all generations.

⁷ For He is our God, and we are the people of His pasture, and the flock of His hand. To-day, if ye would but hearken to His voice!

³ Know ye that the LORD He is God; it is He that hath made us, and we our His, His people, and the flock of His pasture.

¹ Woe unto the shepherds that destroy and scatter the sheep of My pasture! saith the LORD.

³⁷ Thus saith the LORD: If heaven above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, then will I also cast off all the seed of Israel for all that they have done, saith the LORD.

²⁴ 'Considerest thou not what this people have spoken, saying: The two families which the LORD did choose, He hath cast them off? and they contemn My people, that they should be no more a nation before them. ²⁵ Thus saith the LORD: If My covenant be not with day and night, if I have not appointed the ordinances of heaven and earth; ²⁶ then will I also cast away the seed of Jacob, and of David My servant, so that I will not take of his seed to be rulers over the seed of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; for I will cause their captivity to return, and will have compassion on them.'

⁸ As I live, saith the Lord GOD, surely forasmuch as My sheep became a prey, and My sheep became food to all the beasts of the field, because there was no shepherd, neither did My shepherds search for My sheep, but the shepherds fed themselves, and fed not My sheep;

³¹ And ye My sheep, the sheep of My pasture, are men, and I am your God, saith the Lord GOD.'

³² Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

²⁶ But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you. ²⁷ My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me; ²⁸ and I give unto them eternal life, and they shall never perish, and no one shall snatch them out of my hand. ²⁹ My Father, who hath given them unto me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of my Father's hand. ³⁰ I and the Father are one.

¹ I say then, Did God cast off his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. ² God did not cast off his people which he foreknew. Or know ye not what the scripture saith of Elijah? how he pleadeth with God against Israel:
