How great is the sum of them! ¹⁸ If I would count them, they are more in number than the sand; were I to come to the end of them, I would still be with Thee. ¹⁹ If Thou but wouldest slay the wicked, O God - depart from me therefore, ye men of blood; ²⁰ Who utter Thy name with wicked thought, they take it for falsehood, even Thine enemies - ²¹ Do not I hate them, O LORD, that hate Thee? And do not I strive with those that rise up against Thee? ²² I hate them with utmost hatred; I count them mine enemies. ²³ Search me, O God, and know my heart, try me, and know my thoughts; ²⁴ And see if there be any way in me that is grievous, and lead me in the way everlasting.

Uriah the Hittite thou hast smitten with the sword, and his wife thou hast taken to be thy wife, and him thou hast slain with the sword of the children of Ammon. ¹⁰ Now therefore, the sword shall never depart from thy house; because thou hast despised Me, and hast taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thy wife. ¹¹ Thus saith the LORD: Behold, I will raise up evil against thee out of thine own house, and I will take thy wives before thine eyes, and give them unto thy neighbour, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun. ¹² For thou didst it secretly; but I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun.'

³⁹ then hear Thou in heaven Thy dwelling-place, and forgive, and do, and render unto every man according to all his ways, whose heart Thou knowest - for Thou, even Thou only, knowest the hearts of all the children of men -

⁸ Behold, I go forward, but He is not there, and backward, but I cannot perceive Him; ⁹ On the left hand, when He doth work, but I cannot behold Him, He turneth Himself to the right hand, but I cannot see Him.

¹ Why are the nations in an uproar? And why do the peoples mutter in vain? ² The kings of the earth stand up, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against His anointed: ³ 'Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.'

⁵ As thou knowest not what is the way of the wind, nor how the bones do grow in the womb of her that is with child; even so thou knowest not the work of God who doeth all things.

¹⁴ For God shall bring every work into the judgment concerning every hidden thing, whether it be good or whether it be evil.

⁴ But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and decide with equity for the meek of the land; and he shall smite the land with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.

¹⁴ Those yonder lift up their voice, they sing for joy; for the majesty of the LORD they shout from the sea: ¹⁵ 'Therefore glorify ye the LORD in the regions of light, even the name of the LORD, the God of Israel, in the isles of the sea.' ¹⁶ From the uttermost part of the earth have we heard songs: 'Glory to the righteous.' But I say: I waste away, I waste away, woe is me! The treacherous deal treacherously; yea, the treacherous deal very treacherously.

²³ Whom hast thou taunted and blasphemed? And against whom hast thou exalted thy voice? Yea, thou hast lifted up thine eyes on high, even against the Holy One of Israel!

⁸ For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways, saith the LORD. ⁹ For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.

⁵ Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee, and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee; I have appointed thee a prophet unto the nations.

²⁰ But, O LORD of hosts, that judgest righteously, that triest the reins and the heart, let me see Thy vengeance on them; for unto Thee have I revealed my cause.

³ But Thou, O LORD, knowest me, Thou seest me, and triest my heart toward Thee; pull them out like sheep for the slaughter, and prepare them for the day of slaughter.

¹⁷ But if ye will not hear it, my soul shall weep in secret for your pride; and mine eyes shall weep sore, and run down with tears, because the LORD'S flock is carried away captive.

⁹ The heart is deceitful above all things, and it is exceeding weak - who can know it? ¹⁰ I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings.

My brethren, these things ought not so to be.

⁷ that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold that perisheth though it is proved by fire, may be found unto praise and honor and unto glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ:
