⁹ He lieth in wait in a secret place as a lion in his lair, he lieth in wait to catch the poor; he doth catch the poor, when he draweth him up in his net.

¹⁵ But He saveth from the sword of their mouth, even the needy from the hand of the mighty. ¹⁶ So the poor hath hope, and iniquity stoppeth her mouth.

⁵ (12:6) 'For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, now will I arise', saith the LORD; 'I will set him in safety at whom they puff.'

¹² He is like a lion that is eager to tear in pieces, and like a young lion lurking in secret places.

¹⁰ All my bones shall say: 'LORD, who is like unto Thee, who deliverest the poor from him that is too strong for him, yea, the poor and the needy from him that spoileth him?'

¹⁴ The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow; to cast down the poor and needy, to slay such as are upright in the way;

³ (59:4) For, lo, they lie in wait for my soul; the impudent gather themselves together against me; not for my transgression, nor for my sin, O LORD.

³¹ He that oppresseth the poor blasphemeth his Maker; but he that is gracious unto the needy honoureth Him.

¹⁶ One may oppress the poor, yet will their gain increase; one may give to the rich, yet will want come.

¹⁵ As a roaring lion, and a ravenous bear; so is a wicked ruler over a poor people.

³ And she brought up one of her whelps, he became a young lion; and he learned to catch the prey, he devoured men. ⁴ Then the nations assembled against him, he was taken in their pit; and they brought him with hooks unto the land of Egypt. ⁵ Now when she saw that she was disappointed, and her hope was lost, then she took another of her whelps, and made him a young lion. ⁶ And he went up and down among the lions, he became a young lion; and he learned to catch the prey, he devoured men.

²⁹ The people of the land have used oppression, and exercised robbery, and have wronged the poor and needy, and have oppressed the stranger unlawfully.

⁶ Thus saith the LORD: For three transgressions of Israel, yea, for four, I will not reverse it: because they sell the righteous for silver, and the needy for a pair of shoes; ⁷ That pant after the dust of the earth on the head of the poor, and turn aside the way of the humble; and a man and his father go unto the same maid, to profane My holy name;

⁴ Will a lion roar in the forest, when he hath no prey? Will a young lion give forth his voice out of his den, if he have taken nothing?

¹¹ Therefore, because ye trample upon the poor, and take from him exactions of wheat; ye have built houses of hewn stone, but ye shall not dwell in them, ye have planted pleasant vineyards, but ye shall not drink wine thereof. ¹² For I know how manifold are your transgressions, and how mighty are your sins; ye that afflict the just, that take a ransom, and that turn aside the needy in the gate.

² The godly man is perished out of the earth, and the upright among men is no more; they all lie in wait for blood; they hunt every man his brother with a net.

¹¹ (2:12) Where is the den of the lions, which was the feeding-place of the young lions, where the lion and the lioness walked, and the lion's whelp, and none made them afraid? ¹² (2:13) The lion did tear in pieces enough for his whelps, and strangled for his lionesses, and filled his caves with prey, and his dens with ravin.

¹⁵ They take up all of them with the angle, they catch them in their net, and gather them in their drag; therefore they rejoice and exult.

¹⁴ Thou hast stricken through with his own rods the head of his rulers, that come as a whirlwind to scatter me; whose rejoicing is as to devour the poor secretly.

³ Hark! the wailing of the shepherds, for their glory is spoiled; Hark! the roaring of young lions, for the thickets of the Jordan are spoiled.

¹² He that is a hireling, and not a shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, beholdeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth, and the wolf snatcheth them, and scattereth them;

²¹ Do not thou therefore yield unto them; for there lie in wait for him of them more than forty men, who have bound themselves under a curse, neither to eat nor to drink till they have slain him; and now are they ready, looking for the promise from thee.
