⁷ Wisedome is the beginning: get wisedome therefore: and aboue all thy possession get vnderstanding.

¹⁶ Be not thou afrayd when one is made rich, and when the glory of his house is increased. ¹⁷ For he shall take nothing away when he dieth, neither shall his pompe descende after him. ¹⁸ For while he liued, he reioyced himselfe: and men will prayse thee, when thou makest much of thy selfe. ¹⁹ He shall enter into the generation of his fathers, and they shall not liue for euer. ²⁰ Man is in honour, and vnderstandeth not: he is like to beasts that perish.

¹⁰⁴ By thy precepts I haue gotten vnderstanding: therefore I hate all the wayes of falshoode.

¹⁶ Howe much better is it to get wisedome then golde? and to get vnderstanding, is more to be desired then siluer.

⁶ The gathering of treasures by a deceitfull tongue is vanitie tossed to and from of them that seeke death.

²³ Bye the trueth, but sell it not: likewise wisdome, and instruction, and vnderstanding.

⁴ I haue made my great workes: I haue built me houses: I haue planted me vineyards. ⁵ I haue made me gardens and orchards, and planted in them trees of all fruite. ⁶ I haue made me cisternes of water, to water therewith the woods that growe with trees. ⁷ I haue gotten seruants and maides, and had children borne in the house: also I had great possession of beeues and sheepe aboue all that were before me in Ierusalem. ⁸ I haue gathered vnto me also siluer and gold, and the chiefe treasures of Kings and prouinces: I haue prouided me men singers and women singers, and the delites of the sonnes of men, as a woman taken captiue, and women taken captiues. ⁹ And I was great, and increased aboue all that were before me in Ierusalem: also my wisedome remained with me.

⁸ There is one alone, and there is not a second, which hath neither sonne nor brother, yet is there none end of all his trauaile, neither can his eye be satisfied with riches: neither doeth he thinke, For whome doe I trauaile and defraude my soule of pleasure? this also is vanitie, and this is an euill trauaile.

¹² Say not thou, Why is it that the former dayes were better then these? for thou doest not enquire wisely of this thing.

¹⁶ Then said I, Better is wisdome then strength: yet the wisedome of the poore is despised, and his wordes are not heard. ¹⁷ The wordes of the wise are more heard in quietnes, then the crye of him that ruleth among fooles. ¹⁸ Better is wisedome then weapons of warre: but one sinner destroyeth much good.

⁴⁴ Againe, the kingdom of heauen is like vnto a treasure hid in ye field, which when a man hath found, he hideth it, and for ioy thereof departeth and selleth all that he hath, and buieth that field. ⁴⁵ Againe, the kingdome of heauen is like to a marchant man, that seeketh good pearles, ⁴⁶ Who hauing found a pearle of great price, went and solde all that he had, and bought it.

³⁶ For what shall it profite a man, though he should winne the whole world, if he lose his soule? ³⁷ Or what exchange shall a man giue for his soule?

⁴² But one thing is needefull, Marie hath chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

²⁰ But God said vnto him, O foole, this night wil they fetch away thy soule from thee: then whose shall those things be which thou hast prouided?

⁸ Yea, doubtlesse I thinke all thinges but losse for the excellent knowledge sake of Christ Iesus my Lord, for whome I haue counted all things losse, and doe iudge them to bee dongue, that I might winne Christ,
