¹ O Lord, if I dispute with thee, thou art righteous: yet let mee talke with thee of thy iudgements: wherefore doeth the way of the wicked prosper? why are all they in wealth that rebelliously transgresse?

²⁵ Be it farre from thee from doing this thing, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be euen as the wicked, be it farre from thee. shall not the Iudge of all the worlde doe right?

⁴ Perfect is the worke of the mighty God: for all his wayes are iudgement. God is true, and without wickednesse: iust, and righteous is he.

¹⁵ O Lord God of Israel, thou art iust, for we haue bene reserued to escape, as appeareth this day: beholde, we are before thee in our trespasse: therfore we canot stand before thee because of it.

⁶ The tabernacles of robbers doe prosper, and they are in safetie, that prouoke God, whome God hath enriched with his hand.

³ But I will speake to the Almightie, and I desire to dispute with God.

⁷ Wherefore do the wicked liue, and waxe olde, and grow in wealth? ⁸ Their seede is established in their sight with them, and their generation before their eyes. ⁹ Their houses are peaceable without feare, and the rod of God is not vpon them. ¹⁰ Their bullocke gendreth, and fayleth not: their cow calueth, and casteth not her calfe. ¹¹ They send forth their children like sheepe, and their sonnes dance. ¹² They take the tabret and harpe, and reioyce in the sound of the organs. ¹³ They spend their dayes in wealth, and suddenly they go downe to the graue. ¹⁴ They say also vnto God, Depart from vs: for we desire not the knowledge of thy wayes. ¹⁵ Who is the Almightie, that we should serue him? and what profit should we haue, if we should pray vnto him?

¹ A Psalme of David. Fret not thy selfe because of the wicked men, neither be enuious for the euill doers.

³⁵ I haue seene the wicked strong, and spreading himselfe like a greene bay tree.

⁴ Against thee, against thee onely haue I sinned, and done euill in thy sight, that thou mayest be iust when thou speakest, and pure when thou iudgest.

³ For I feared at the foolish, when I sawe the prosperitie of the wicked. ⁴ For there are no bandes in their death, but they are lustie and strong. ⁵ They are not in trouble as other men, neither are they plagued with other men. ⁶ Therefore pride is as a chayne vnto them, and crueltie couereth them as a garment. ⁷ Their eyes stande out for fatnesse: they haue more then heart can wish. ⁸ They are licentious, and speake wickedly of their oppression: they talke presumptuously. ⁹ They set their mouth against heauen, and their tongue walketh through the earth. ¹⁰ Therefore his people turne hither: for waters of a full cup are wrung out to them. ¹¹ And they say, Howe doeth God know it? or is there knowledge in the most High? ¹² Lo, these are the wicked, yet prosper they alway, and increase in riches. ¹³ Certainely I haue clensed mine heart in vaine, and washed mine hands in innocencie. ¹⁴ For dayly haue I bene punished, and chastened euery morning. ¹⁵ If I say, I will iudge thus, beholde the generation of thy children: I haue trespassed. ¹⁶ Then thought I to know this, but it was too painefull for me, ¹⁷ Vntill I went into the Sanctuarie of God: then vnderstoode I their ende. ¹⁸ Surely thou hast set them in slipperie places, and castest them downe into desolation. ¹⁹ How suddenly are they destroyed, perished and horribly consumed, ²⁰ As a dreame when one awaketh! O Lord, when thou raisest vs vp, thou shalt make their image despised. ²¹ Certainely mine heart was vexed, and I was pricked in my reines: ²² So foolish was I and ignorant: I was a beast before thee. ²³ Yet I was alway with thee: thou hast holden me by my right hand. ²⁴ Thou wilt guide me by thy counsell, and afterward receiue me to glory. ²⁵ Whom haue I in heauen but thee? and I haue desired none in the earth with thee. ²⁶ My flesh fayleth and mine heart also: but God is the strength of mine heart, and my portion for euer. ²⁷ For loe, they that withdrawe themselues from thee, shall perish: thou destroyest all them that goe a whoring from thee. ²⁸ As for me, it is good for me to draw neere to God: therefore I haue put my trust in the Lord God, that I may declare all thy workes.

⁷ (When the wicked growe as the grasse, and all the workers of wickednesse doe flourish) that they shall be destroyed for euer.

³ Lord how long shall the wicked, how long shall the wicked triumph? ⁴ They prate and speake fiercely: all the workers of iniquitie vaunt themselues.

⁷⁵ I knowe, O Lord, that thy iudgements are right, and that thou hast afflicted me iustly.

¹³⁷ TSADDI. Righteous art thou, O Lord, and iust are thy iudgements.

¹⁷ The Lord is righteous in all his wayes, and holy in all his workes.

³² For ease slaieth the foolish, and the prosperitie of fooles destroyeth them.

²¹ Stand to your cause, saith the Lord: bring forth your strong reasons, saith ye King of Iaakob.

⁸ Yet thou heardest them not, neither diddest know them, neither yet was thine eare opened of olde: for I knewe that thou wouldest grieuously transgresse: therefore haue I called thee a transgressour from the wombe.

¹¹ For the house of Israel, and the house of Iudah haue grieuously trespassed against me, saith the Lord.

²⁷ As a cage is full of birdes, so are their houses full of deceite: thereby they are become great and waxen riche. ²⁸ They are waxen fat and shining: they doe ouerpasse the deedes of the wicked: they execute no iudgement, no not the iudgement of the fatherlesse: yet they prosper, though they execute no iudgement for the poore.

²⁰ But O Lord of hostes, that iudgest righteously, and triest the reines and the heart, let me see thy vengeance on them: for vnto thee haue I opened my cause.

⁶ For euen thy brethren, and the house of thy father, euen they haue delt vnfaithfully with thee, and they haue cryed out altogether vpon thee: but beleeue them not, though they speake faire to thee.

⁷ O Lord, righteousnes belongeth vnto thee, and vnto vs open shame, as appeareth this day vnto euery man of Iudah, and to the inhabitants of Ierusalem: yea, vnto all Israel, both neere and farre off, through all the countreys, whither thou hast driuen them, because of their offences, that they haue committed against thee.

⁷ But they like men haue transgressed the couenant: there haue they trespassed against me.

⁴ Therefore the Lawe is dissolued, and iudgement doeth neuer go forth: for the wicked doeth compasse about the righteous: therefore wrong iudgement proceedeth.

¹³ Thou art of pure eyes, and canst not see euill: thou canst not behold wickednesse: wherefore doest thou looke vpon the transgressors, and holdest thy tongue when the wicked deuoureth the man, that is more righteous then he? ¹⁴ And makest men as the fishes of the sea, and as the creeping things, that haue no ruler ouer them. ¹⁵ They take vp all with the angle: they catch it in their net, and gather it in their yarne, whereof they reioyce and are glad. ¹⁶ Therefore they sacrifice vnto their net, and burne incense vnto their yarne, because by them their portion is fat and their meat plenteous. ¹⁷ Shall they therefore stretch out their net and not spare continually to slay the nations?

⁵ The iust Lord is in the middes thereof: he will doe none iniquitie: euery morning doeth hee bring his iudgement to light, he faileth not: but the wicked will not learne to be ashamed.

¹⁵ Therefore wee count the proude blessed: euen they that worke wickednesse, are set vp, and they that tempt God, yea, they are deliuered.

⁵ Now if our vnrighteousnes comend the righteousnes of God, what shall we say? Is God vnrighteous which punisheth? (I speake as a man.) ⁶ God forbid: els how shall God iudge ye world?
