¹ And when they drew nigh unto Jerusalem, and came unto Bethphage, unto the mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples, ² saying unto them, Go into the village that is over against you, and straightway ye shall find an ass tied, and a colt with her: loose [them], and bring [them] unto me. ³ And if any one say aught unto you, ye shall say, The Lord hath need of them; and straightway he will send them. ⁴ Now this is come to pass, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, ⁵ Tell ye the daughter of Zion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, Meek, and riding upon an ass, And upon a colt the foal of an ass. ⁶ And the disciples went, and did even as Jesus appointed them, ⁷ and brought the ass, and the colt, and put on them their garments; and he sat thereon. ⁸ And the most part of the multitude spread their garments in the way; and others cut branches from the trees, and spread them in the way. ⁹ And the multitudes that went before him, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the son of David: Blessed [is] he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest. ¹⁰ And when he was come into Jerusalem, all the city was stirred, saying, Who is this? ¹¹ And the multitudes said, This is the prophet, Jesus, from Nazareth of Galilee. ¹² And Jesus entered into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the money-changers, and the seats of them that sold the doves; ¹³ and he saith unto them, It is written, My house shall be called a house of prayer: but ye make it a den of robbers. ¹⁴ And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple: and he healed them. ¹⁵ But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children that were crying in the temple and saying, Hosanna to the son of David; they were moved with indignation, ¹⁶ and said unto him, Hearest thou what these are saying? And Jesus saith unto them, Yea: did ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise? ¹⁷ And he left them, and went forth out of the city to Bethany, and lodged there. ¹⁸ Now in the morning as he returned to the city, he hungered. ¹⁹ And seeing a fig tree by the way side, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only; and he saith unto it, Let there be no fruit from thee henceforward for ever. And immediately the fig tree withered away. ²⁰ And when the disciples saw it, they marveled, saying, How did the fig tree immediately wither away? ²¹ And Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do what is done to the fig tree, but even if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou taken up and cast into the sea, it shall be done. ²² And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive. ²³ And when he was come into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came unto him as he was teaching, and said, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority? ²⁴ And Jesus answered and said unto them, I also will ask you one question, which if ye tell me, I likewise will tell you by what authority I do these things. ²⁵ The baptism of John, whence was it? from heaven or from men? And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say unto us, Why then did ye not believe him? ²⁶ But if we shall say, From men; we fear the multitude; for all hold John as a prophet. ²⁷ And they answered Jesus, and said, We know not. He also said unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things. ²⁸ But what think ye? A man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work today in the vineyard. ²⁹ And he answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented himself, and went. ³⁰ And he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, I [go], sir: and went not. ³¹ Whether of the twain did the will of his father? They say, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, that the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you. ³² For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye saw it, did not even repent yourselves afterward, that ye might believe him. ³³ Hear another parable: There was a man that was a householder, which planted a vineyard, and set a hedge about it, and digged a winepress in it, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into another country. ³⁴ And when the season of the fruits drew near, he sent his servants to the husbandmen, to receive his fruits. ³⁵ And the husbandmen took his servants, and beat one, and killed another, and stoned another. ³⁶ Again, he sent other servants more than the first: and they did unto them in like manner. ³⁷ But afterward he sent unto them his son, saying, They will reverence my son. ³⁸ But the husbandmen, when they saw the son, said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and take his inheritance. ³⁹ And they took him, and cast him forth out of the vineyard, and killed him. ⁴⁰ When therefore the lord of the vineyard shall come, what will he do unto those husbandmen? ⁴¹ They say unto him, He will miserably destroy those miserable men, and will let out the vineyard unto other husbandmen, which shall render him the fruits in their seasons. ⁴² Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, The same was made the head of the corner: This was from the Lord, And it is marvelous in our eyes? ⁴³ Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken away from you, and shall be given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof. ⁴⁴ And he that falleth on this stone shall be broken to pieces: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will scatter him as dust. ⁴⁵ And when the chief priests and the Pharisees heard his parables, they perceived that he spake of them. ⁴⁶ And when they sought to lay hold on him, they feared the multitudes, because they took him for a prophet.

⁴ And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, [and there shall be] a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south.

³ And as he sat on the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what [shall be] the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?

³⁰ And when they had sung a hymn, they went out unto the mount of Olives.

²⁶ And when they had sung a hymn, they went out unto the mount of Olives.

²⁸ And when he had thus spoken, he went on before, going up to Jerusalem. ²⁹ And it came to pass, when he drew nigh unto Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount that is called [the mount] of Olives, he sent two of the disciples, ³⁰ saying, Go your way into the village over against [you]; in the which as ye enter ye shall find a colt tied, whereon no man ever yet sat: loose him, and bring him. ³¹ And if any one ask you, Why do ye loose him? thus shall ye say, The Lord hath need of him. ³² And they that were sent went away, and found even as he had said unto them. ³³ And as they were loosing the colt, the owners thereof said unto them, Why loose ye the colt? ³⁴ And they said, The Lord hath need of him. ³⁵ And they brought him to Jesus: and they threw their garments upon the colt, and set Jesus thereon. ³⁶ And as he went, they spread their garments in the way. ³⁷ And as he was now drawing nigh, [even] at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works which they had seen; ³⁸ saying, Blessed [is] the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest.

³⁷ And every day he was teaching in the temple; and every night he went out, and lodged in the mount that is called [the mount] of Olives.

³⁹ And he came out, and went, as his custom was, unto the mount of Olives; and the disciples also followed him.

¹ but Jesus went unto the mount of Olives.

¹² Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is nigh unto Jerusalem, a sabbath day’s journey off.

¹⁸ And he said, Go into the city to such a man, and say unto him, The Master saith, My time is at hand; I keep the passover at thy house with my disciples.

² and saith unto them, Go your way into the village that is over against you: and straightway as ye enter into it, ye shall find a colt tied, whereon no man ever yet sat; loose him, and bring him. ³ And if any one say unto you, Why do ye this? say ye, The Lord hath need of him; and straightway he will send him back hither.

¹³ And he sendeth two of his disciples, and saith unto them, Go into the city, and there shall meet you a man bearing a pitcher of water: follow him; ¹⁴ and wheresoever he shall enter in, say to the goodman of the house, The Master saith, Where is my guest-chamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples? ¹⁵ And he will himself shew you a large upper room furnished [and] ready: and there make ready for us. ¹⁶ And the disciples went forth, and came into the city, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover.

³⁰ saying, Go your way into the village over against [you]; in the which as ye enter ye shall find a colt tied, whereon no man ever yet sat: loose him, and bring him. ³¹ And if any one ask you, Why do ye loose him? thus shall ye say, The Lord hath need of him. ³² And they that were sent went away, and found even as he had said unto them.

⁵ His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it. ⁶ Now there were six waterpots of stone set there after the Jews’ manner of purifying, containing two or three firkins apiece. ⁷ Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim. ⁸ And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the ruler of the feast. And they bare it.

²⁶ And Saul also went to his house to Gibeah; and there went with him the host, whose hearts God had touched.

⁹ Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.

¹⁴ But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly after this sort? for all things come of thee, and of thine own have we given thee. ¹⁵ For we are strangers before thee, and sojourners, as all our fathers were: our days on the earth are as a shadow, and there is no abiding. ¹⁶ O LORD our God, all this store that we have prepared to build thee an house for thine holy name cometh of thine hand, and is all thine own.

¹ Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah might be accomplished, the LORD stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and [put it] also in writing, saying,

⁵ Then rose up the heads of fathers’ [houses] of Judah and Benjamin, told the priests, and the Levites, even all whose spirit God had stirred to go up to build the house of the LORD which is in Jerusalem.

²⁷ Blessed be the LORD, the God of our fathers, which hath put such a thing as this in the king’s heart, to beautify the house of the LORD which is in Jerusalem;

¹ A Psalm of David. The earth is the LORD’S, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.

¹⁰ For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills. ¹¹ I know all the fowls of the mountains: and the wild beasts of the field are mine.

⁸ The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, saith the LORD of hosts. ⁹ The latter glory of this house shall be greater than the former, saith the LORD of hosts: and in this place will I give peace, saith the LORD of hosts.

³⁵ The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand.

² even as thou gavest him authority over all flesh, that whatsoever thou hast given him, to them he should give eternal life.

²⁵ neither is he served by men’s hands, as though he needed anything, seeing he himself giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;

¹ Moreover, brethren, we make known to you the grace of God which hath been given in the churches of Macedonia; ² how that in much proof of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded unto the riches of their liberality.

⁹ For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might become rich.

¹⁶ But thanks be to God, which putteth the same earnest care for you into the heart of Titus.

¹⁷ Every good gift and every perfect boon is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, neither shadow that is cast by turning.

⁹ Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy king cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, even upon a colt the foal of an ass.

²² Now all this is come to pass, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying,

⁵⁶ But all this is come to pass, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples left him, and fled.

¹⁵ Fear not, daughter of Zion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass’s colt.

³⁶ For these things came to pass, that the scripture might be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken. ³⁷ And again another scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced.

¹⁰ The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, Nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, Until Shiloh come; And unto him shall the obedience of the peoples be.

¹⁹ And out of Jacob shall one have dominion, And shall destroy the remnant from the city.

¹⁶ Only he shall not multiply horses to himself, nor cause the people to return to Egypt, to the end that he should multiply horses: forasmuch as the LORD hath said unto you, Ye shall henceforth return no more that way.

¹⁰ Tell [of it], ye that ride on white asses, ye that sit on rich carpets, and ye that walk by the way.

¹⁴ And he had forty sons and thirty sons’ sons, that rode on threescore and ten ass colts: and he judged Israel eight years.

² And the king said unto Ziba, What meanest thou by these? And Ziba said, The asses be for the king’s household to ride on; and the bread and summer fruit for the young men to eat; and the wine, that such as be faint in the wilderness may drink.

³³ And the king, said unto them, Take with you the servants of your lord, and cause Solomon my son to ride upon mine own mute, and bring him down to Gihon:

²⁶ And Solomon gathered together chariots and horsemen: and he had a thousand and four hundred chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen, which he bestowed in the chariot cities, and with the king at Jerusalem.

⁶ Yet I have set my king upon my holy hill of Zion. ⁷ I will tell of the decree: the LORD said unto me, Thou art my son; this day have I begotten thee. ⁸ Ask of me, and I will give thee the nations for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession. ⁹ Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel. ¹⁰ Now therefore be wise, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth. ¹¹ Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. ¹² Kiss the son, lest he be angry, and ye perish in the way, for his wrath will soon be kindled. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.

¹⁴ That I may shew forth all thy praise: in the gates of the daughter of Zion, I will rejoice in thy salvation.

¹ For the Chief Musician; set to Shoshannim; [a Psalm] of the sons of Korah. Maschil. A Song of loves. My heart overfloweth with a goodly matter: I speak the things which I have made touching the king: my tongue is the pen of a ready writer. ² Thou art fairer than the children of men; grace is poured into thy lips: therefore God hath blessed thee for ever. ³ Gird thy sword upon thy thigh, O mighty one, thy glory and thy majesty. ⁴ And in thy majesty ride on prosperously, because of truth and meekness [and] righteousness: and thy right hand shall teach thee terrible things. ⁵ Thine arrows are sharp; the peoples fall under thee; [they are] in the heart of the king’s enemies. ⁶ Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of equity is the sceptre of thy kingdom. ⁷ Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows. ⁸ All thy garments [smell of] myrrh, and aloes, [and] cassia; out of ivory palaces stringed instruments have made thee glad. ⁹ Kings’ daughters are among thy honourable women: at thy right hand doth stand the queen in gold of Ophir. ¹⁰ Hearken, O daughter, and consider, and incline thine ear; forget also thine own people, and thy father’s house; ¹¹ So shall the king desire thy beauty: for he is thy Lord; and worship thou him. ¹² And the daughter of Tyre [shall be there] with a gift; even the rich among the people shall entreat thy favour. ¹³ The king’s daughter within [the palace] is all glorious: her clothing is inwrought with gold. ¹⁴ She shall be led unto the king in broidered work: the virgins her companions that follow her shall be brought unto thee. ¹⁵ With gladness and rejoicing shall they be led: they shall enter into the king’s palace. ¹⁶ Instead of thy fathers shall be thy children, whom thou shalt make princes in all the earth. ¹⁷ I will make thy name to be remembered in all generations: therefore shall the peoples give thee thanks for ever and ever.

¹ [A Psalm] of Solomon. Give the king thy judgments, O God, and thy righteousness unto the king’s son. ² He shall judge thy people with righteousness, and thy poor with judgment. ³ The mountains shall bring peace to the people, and the hills, in righteousness. ⁴ He shall judge the poor of the people, he shall save the children of the needy, and shall break in pieces the oppressor. ⁵ They shall fear thee while the sun endureth, and so long as the moon, throughout all generations. ⁶ He shall come down like rain upon the mown grass: as showers that water the earth. ⁷ In his days shall the righteous flourish; and abundance of peace, till the moon be no more. ⁸ He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, and from the River unto the ends of the earth. ⁹ They that dwell in the wilderness shall bow before him; and his enemies shall lick the dust. ¹⁰ The kings of Tarshish and of the isles shall bring presents: the kings of Sheba and Seba shall offer gifts. ¹¹ Yea, all kings shall fall down before him: all nations shall serve him. ¹² For he shall deliver the needy when he crieth; and the poor, that hath no helper. ¹³ He shall have pity on the poor and needy, and the souls of the needy he shall save. ¹⁴ He shall redeem their soul from oppression and violence; and precious shall their blood be in his sight: ¹⁵ And they shall live; and to him shall be given of the gold of Sheba: and men shall pray for him continually; they shall bless him all the day long. ¹⁶ There shall be abundance of corn in the earth upon the top of the mountains; the fruit thereof shall shake like Lebanon: and they of the city shall flourish like grass of the earth. ¹⁷ His name shall endure for ever; his name shall be continued as long as the sun: and men shall be blessed in him; all nations shall call him happy. ¹⁸ Blessed be the LORD God, the God of Israel, who only doeth wondrous things: ¹⁹ And blessed be his glorious name for ever; and let the whole earth be filled with his glory. Amen, and Amen. ²⁰ The prayers of David the son of Jesse are ended.

¹ A Psalm of David. The LORD saith unto my lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool. ² The LORD shall send forth the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies. ³ Thy people offer themselves willingly in the day of thy power: in the beauties of holiness, from the womb of the morning, thou hast the dew of thy youth. ⁴ The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.

⁶ For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. ⁷ Of the increase of his government and of peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to establish it, and to uphold it with judgment and with righteousness from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts shall perform this.

⁶ Cry aloud and shout, thou inhabitant of Zion: for great is the Holy One of Israel in the midst of thee.

⁹ O thou that tellest good tidings to Zion, get thee up into the high mountain: O thou that tellest good tidings to Jerusalem, lift up thy voice with strength; lift it up, be not afraid; say unto the cities of Judah, Behold, your God!

¹¹ Behold, the LORD hath proclaimed unto the end of the earth, Say ye to the daughter of Zion, Behold, thy salvation cometh; behold, his reward is with him, and his recompence before him.

⁵ Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and he shall reign as king and deal wisely, and shall execute judgment and justice in the land. ⁶ In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, The LORD is our righteousness.

²⁴ And I the LORD will be their God, and my servant David prince among them; I the LORD have spoken it.

²⁴ And my servant David shall be king over them; and they all shall have one shepherd: they shall also walk in my judgments, and observe my statutes, and do them.

⁴⁴ And in the days of those kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed, nor shall the sovereignty thereof be left to another people; but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever. ⁴⁵ Forasmuch as thou sawest that a stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure.

¹³ I saw in the night visions, and, behold, there came with the clouds of heaven one like unto a son of man, and he came even to the ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. ¹⁴ And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all the peoples, nations, and languages should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.

⁷ But I will have mercy upon the house of Judah, and will save them by the LORD their God, and will not save them by bow, nor by sword, nor by battle, by horses, nor by horsemen.

² But thou, Beth-lehem Ephrathah, which art little to be among the thousands of Judah, out of thee shall one come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth are from of old, from everlasting.

¹⁰ And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the LORD, that I will cut off thy horses out of the midst of thee, and will destroy thy chariots: ¹¹ and I will cut off the cities of thy land, and will throw down all thy strong holds:

¹⁴ Sing, O daughter of Zion; shout, O Israel; be glad and rejoice with all the heart, O daughter of Jerusalem. ¹⁵ The LORD hath taken away thy judgments, he hath cast out thine enemy: the king of Israel, even the LORD, is in the midst of thee: thou shalt not fear evil any more.

¹² and speak unto him, saying, Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, Behold, the man whose name is the Branch; and he shall grow up out of his place, and he shall build the temple of the LORD: ¹³ even he shall build the temple of the LORD; and he shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule upon his throne; and he shall be a priest upon his throne: and the counsel of peace shall be between them both.

⁹ Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy king cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, even upon a colt the foal of an ass. ¹⁰ And I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim, and the horse from Jerusalem, and the battle bow shall be cut off; and he shall speak peace unto the nations: and his dominion shall be from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth.

² saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we saw his star in the east, and are come to worship him.

⁶ And thou Bethlehem, land of Judah, Art in no wise least among the princes of Judah: For out of thee shall come forth a governor, Which shall be shepherd of my people Israel.

²⁹ Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

¹⁹ He shall not strive, nor cry aloud; Neither shall any one hear his voice in the streets. ²⁰ A bruised reed shall he not break, And smoking flax shall he not quench, Till he send forth judgment unto victory.

¹⁵ They therefore cried out, Away with [him], away with [him], crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar. ¹⁶ Then therefore he delivered him unto them to be crucified. ¹⁷ They took Jesus therefore: and he went out, bearing the cross for himself, unto the place called The place of a skull, which is called in Hebrew Golgotha: ¹⁸ where they crucified him, and with him two others, on either side one, and Jesus in the midst. ¹⁹ And Pilate wrote a title also, and put it on the cross. And there was written, JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS. ²⁰ This title therefore read many of the Jews: for the place where Jesus was crucified was nigh to the city: and it was written in Hebrew, [and] in Latin, [and] in Greek. ²¹ The chief priests of the Jews therefore said to Pilate, Write not, The King of the Jews; but, that he said, I am King of the Jews. ²² Pilate answered, What I have written I have written.

¹ Now I Paul myself entreat you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, I who in your presence am lowly among you, but being absent am of good courage toward you:

³ [doing] nothing through faction or through vainglory, but in lowliness of mind each counting other better than himself; ⁴ not looking each of you to his own things, but each of you also to the things of others. ⁵ Have this mind in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

²² Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he.

⁴ So Abram went, as the LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.

⁴³ And Moses saw all the work, and, behold, they had done it; as the LORD had commanded, even so had they done it: and Moses blessed them.

¹⁶ Thus did Moses: according to all that the LORD commanded him, so did he.

¹¹ It repenteth me that I have set up Saul to be king: for he is turned back from following me, and hath not performed my commandments. And Samuel was wroth; and he cried unto the LORD all night.

¹⁴ Ye are my friends, if ye do the things which I command you.

¹³ Then they hasted, and took every man his garment, and put it under him on the top of the stairs, and blew the trumpet, saying, Jehu is king.

⁴ And they went away, and found a colt tied at the door without in the open street; and they loose him. ⁵ And certain of them that stood there said unto them, What do ye, loosing the colt? ⁶ And they said unto them even as Jesus had said: and they let them go. ⁷ And they bring the colt unto Jesus, and cast on him their garments; and he sat upon him. ⁸ And many spread their garments upon the way; and others branches, which they had cut from the fields.

³² And they that were sent went away, and found even as he had said unto them. ³³ And as they were loosing the colt, the owners thereof said unto them, Why loose ye the colt? ³⁴ And they said, The Lord hath need of him. ³⁵ And they brought him to Jesus: and they threw their garments upon the colt, and set Jesus thereon.

⁴⁰ And ye shall take you on the first day the fruit of goodly trees, branches of palm trees, and boughs of thick trees, and willows of the brook; and ye shall rejoice before the LORD your God seven days.

¹³ took the branches of the palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried out, Hosanna: Blessed [is] he that cometh in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel.

²⁴ This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. ²⁵ Save now, we beseech thee, O LORD: O LORD, we beseech thee, send now prosperity. ²⁶ Blessed be he that cometh in the name of the LORD: we have blessed you out of the house of the LORD.

²⁷ And as Jesus passed by from thence, two blind men followed him, crying out, and saying, Have mercy on us, thou son of David.

¹⁵ But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children that were crying in the temple and saying, Hosanna to the son of David; they were moved with indignation,

³⁹ For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed [is] he that cometh in the name of the Lord.

¹⁴ Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace among men in whom he is well pleased.

¹³ took the branches of the palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried out, Hosanna: Blessed [is] he that cometh in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel. ¹⁴ And Jesus, having found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written, ¹⁵ Fear not, daughter of Zion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass’s colt.

¹⁹ So they two went until they came to Beth-lehem. And it came to pass, when they were come to Beth-lehem, that all the city was moved about them, and [the women] said, Is this Naomi?

⁴ And Samuel did that which the LORD spake, and came to Beth-lehem. And the elders of the city came to meet him trembling, and said, Comest thou peaceably?

⁶ Who is this that cometh up out of the wilderness like pillars of smoke, perfumed with myrrh and frankincense, with all powders of the merchant?

¹ Who is this that cometh from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah? this that is glorious in his apparel, marching in the greatness of his strength? I that speak in righteousness, mighty to save.

³ And when Herod the king heard it, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.

²¹ And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, Who is this that speaketh blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone?

⁴⁹ And they that sat at meat with him began to say within themselves, Who is this that even forgiveth sins?

⁹ And Herod said, John I beheaded: but who is this, about whom I hear such things? And he sought to see him.

² and they spake, saying unto him, Tell us: By what authority doest thou these things? or who is he that gave thee this authority?

¹⁸ The Jews therefore answered and said unto him, What sign shewest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things?

¹⁶ These things understood not his disciples at the first: but when Jesus was glorified, then remembered they that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things unto him. ¹⁷ The multitude therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb, and raised him from the dead, bare witness. ¹⁸ For this cause also the multitude went and met him, for that they heard that he had done this sign. ¹⁹ The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, Behold how ye prevail nothing: lo, the world is gone after him.

⁵ And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And he [said], I am Jesus whom thou persecutest:

¹⁵ The LORD thy God will raise up unto thee a prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken; ¹⁶ according to all that thou desiredst of the LORD thy God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, Let me not hear again the voice of the LORD my God, neither let me see this great fire any more, that I die not. ¹⁷ And the LORD said unto me, They have well said that which they have spoken. ¹⁸ I will raise them up a prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee; and I will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. ¹⁹ And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.

²³ and came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, that he should be called a Nazarene.

¹³ Now when Jesus came into the parts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Who do men say that the Son of man is? ¹⁴ And they said, Some [say] John the Baptist; some, Elijah: and others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.

¹⁵ But others said, It is Elijah. And others said, [It is] a prophet, [even] as one of the prophets.

¹⁶ And fear took hold on all: and they glorified God, saying, A great prophet is arisen among us: and, God hath visited his people.

³⁹ Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have perceived who and what manner of woman this is which touched him, that she is a sinner.

³³ Howbeit I must go on my way today and tomorrow and the [day] following: for it cannot be that a prophet perish out of Jerusalem.

¹⁹ And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, The things concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people:

²¹ And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elijah? And he saith, I am not. Art thou the prophet? And he answered, No.

²⁵ And they asked him, and said unto him, Why then baptizest thou, if thou art not the Christ, neither Elijah, neither the prophet?

⁴⁵ Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph. ⁴⁶ And Nathanael said unto him, Can any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith unto him, Come and see.

¹⁹ The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet.

¹⁴ When therefore the people saw the sign which he did, they said, This is of a truth the prophet that cometh into the world.

⁴⁰ [Some] of the multitude therefore, when they heard these words, said, This is of a truth the prophet.

¹⁷ They say therefore unto the blind man again, What sayest thou of him, in that he opened thine eyes? And he said, He is a prophet.

²² Moses indeed said, A prophet shall the Lord God raise up unto you from among your brethren, like unto me; to him shall ye hearken in all things whatsoever he shall speak unto you. ²³ And it shall be, that every soul, which shall not hearken to that prophet, shall be utterly destroyed from among the people.

³⁷ This is that Moses, which said unto the children of Israel, A prophet shall God raise up unto you from among your brethren, like unto me.

¹³ This they shall give, every one that passeth over unto them that are numbered, half a shekel after the shekel of the sanctuary: (the shekel is twenty gerahs:) half a shekel for an offering to the LORD.

¹⁴ And if his oblation to the LORD be a burnt offering of fowls, then he shall offer his oblation of turtledoves, or of young pigeons.

⁷ And if his means suffice not for a lamb, then he shall bring his guilt offering for that wherein he hath sinned, two turtledoves, or two young pigeons, unto the LORD; one for a sin offering, and the other for a burnt offering.

¹¹ But if his means suffice not for two turtledoves, or two young pigeons, then he shall bring his oblation for that wherein he hath sinned, the tenth part of an ephah of fine flour for a sin offering; he shall put no oil upon it, neither shall he put any frankincense thereon: for it is a sin offering.

⁶ And when the days of her purifying are fulfilled, for a son, or for a daughter, she shall bring a lamb of the first year for a burnt offering, and a young pigeon, or a turtledove, for a sin offering, unto the door of the tent of meeting, unto the priest:

⁸ And if her means suffice not for a lamb, then she shall take two turtledoves, or two young pigeons; the one for a burnt offering, and the other for a sin offering: and the priest shall make atonement for her, and she shall be clean.

²² and two turtledoves, or two young pigeons, such as he is able to get; and the one shall be a sin offering, and the other a burnt offering.

³⁰ And he shall offer one of the turtledoves, or of the young pigeons, such as he is able to get;

¹⁴ And on the eighth day he shall take to him two turtledoves, or two young pigeons, and come before the LORD unto the door of the tent of meeting, and give them unto the priest:

²⁹ And on the eighth day she shall take unto her two turtledoves, or two young pigeons, and bring them unto the priest, to the door of the tent of meeting.

²⁴ And if the way be too long for thee, so that thou art not able to carry it, because the place is too far from thee, which the LORD thy God shall choose to set his name there, when the LORD thy God shall bless thee: ²⁵ then shalt thou turn it into money, and bind up the money in thine hand, and shalt go unto the place which the LORD thy God shall choose: ²⁶ and thou shalt bestow the money for whatsoever thy soul desireth, for oxen, or for sheep, or for wine, or for strong drink, or for whatsoever thy soul asketh of thee: and thou shalt eat there before the LORD thy God, and thou shalt rejoice, thou and thine household:

¹ Behold, I send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple; and the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in, behold, he cometh, saith the LORD of hosts. ² But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner’s fire, and like fullers’ soap:

¹¹ And he entered into Jerusalem, into the temple; and when he had looked round about upon all things, it being now eventide, he went out unto Bethany with the twelve.

¹⁵ And they come to Jerusalem: and he entered into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold and them that bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the money-changers, and the seats of them that sold the doves; ¹⁶ and he would not suffer that any man should carry a vessel through the temple. ¹⁷ And he taught, and said unto them, Is it not written, My house shall be called a house of prayer for all the nations? but ye have made it a den of robbers. ¹⁸ And the chief priests and the scribes heard it, and sought how they might destroy him: for they feared him, for all the multitude was astonished at his teaching.

²⁴ and to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.

⁴⁵ And he entered into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold, ⁴⁶ saying unto them, It is written, And my house shall be a house of prayer: but ye have made it a den of robbers. ⁴⁷ And he was teaching daily in the temple. But the chief priests and the scribes and the principal men of the people sought to destroy him:

¹⁴ And he found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting: ¹⁵ and he made a scourge of cords, and cast all out of the temple, both the sheep and the oxen; and he poured out the changers’ money, and overthrew their tables; ¹⁶ and to them that sold the doves he said, Take these things hence; make not my Father’s house a house of merchandise. ¹⁷ His disciples remembered that it was written, The zeal of thine house shall eat me up.

⁵ Thy testimonies are very sure: holiness becometh thine house, O LORD, for evermore.

⁷ even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer; their burnt offerings and their sacrifices shall be accepted upon mine altar: for mine house shall be called an house of prayer for all peoples.

¹¹ Is this house, which is called by my name, become a den of robbers in your eyes? Behold, I, even I, have seen it, saith the LORD.

⁵ And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet,

¹⁷ And he taught, and said unto them, Is it not written, My house shall be called a house of prayer for all the nations? but ye have made it a den of robbers.

⁴⁶ saying unto them, It is written, And my house shall be a house of prayer: but ye have made it a den of robbers.

²⁵ But [this cometh to pass], that the word may be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause.

⁵ Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped.

²³ And Jesus went about in all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of disease and all manner of sickness among the people.

³⁵ And Jesus went about all the cities and the villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of disease and all manner of sickness.

⁴ And Jesus answered and said unto them, Go your way and tell John the things which ye do hear and see: ⁵ the blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, and the dead are raised up, and the poor have good tidings preached to them.

¹ Now Peter and John were going up into the temple at the hour of prayer, [being] the ninth [hour]. ² And a certain man that was lame from his mother’s womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the door of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple; ³ who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, asked to receive an alms. ⁴ And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him, with John, said, Look on us. ⁵ And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something from them. ⁶ But Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but what I have, that give I thee. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk. ⁷ And he took him by the right hand, and raised him up: and immediately his feet and his ankle-bones received strength. ⁸ And leaping up, he stood, and began to walk; and he entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God. ⁹ And all the people saw him walking and praising God:

³⁸ [even] Jesus of Nazareth, how that God anointed him with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

¹¹ LORD, thy hand is lifted up, yet they see not: but they shall see [thy] zeal for the people, and be ashamed; yea, fire shall devour thine adversaries.

⁹ And the multitudes that went before him, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the son of David: Blessed [is] he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.

²³ And when he was come into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came unto him as he was teaching, and said, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority?

⁴² saying, What think ye of the Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, [The son] of David.

³ Then were gathered together the chief priests, and the elders of the people, unto the court of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas;

⁵⁹ Now the chief priests and the whole council sought false witness against Jesus, that they might put him to death;

¹ Now when morning was come, all the chief priests and the elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death:

²⁰ Now the chief priests and the elders persuaded the multitudes that they should ask for Barabbas, and destroy Jesus.

¹⁸ And the chief priests and the scribes heard it, and sought how they might destroy him: for they feared him, for all the multitude was astonished at his teaching.

³⁹ And some of the Pharisees from the multitude said unto him, Master, rebuke thy disciples. ⁴⁰ And he answered and said, I tell you that, if these shall hold their peace, the stones will cry out.

¹ And it came to pass, on one of the days, as he was teaching the people in the temple, and preaching the gospel, there came upon him the chief priests and the scribes with the elders;

² And the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might put him to death; for they feared the people.

⁶⁶ And as soon as it was day, the assembly of the elders of the people was gathered together, both chief priests and scribes; and they led him away into their council, saying,

¹ When therefore the Lord knew how that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus was making and baptizing more disciples than John

⁴² Hath not the scripture said that the Christ cometh of the seed of David, and from Bethlehem, the village where David was?

⁴⁷ The chief priests therefore and the Pharisees gathered a council, and said, What do we? for this man doeth many signs. ⁴⁸ If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him: and the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation. ⁴⁹ But a certain one of them, Caiaphas, being high priest that year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all,

⁵⁷ Now the chief priests and the Pharisees had given commandment, that, if any man knew where he was, he should shew it, that they might take him.

¹⁹ The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, Behold how ye prevail nothing: lo, the world is gone after him.

² Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou established strength, because of thine adversaries, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.

²⁵ At that season Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou didst hide these things from the wise and understanding, and didst reveal them unto babes:

³ But he said unto them, Have ye not read what David did, when he was an hungred, and they that were with him;

⁴ And he answered and said, Have ye not read, that he which made [them] from the beginning made them male and female,

³¹ But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying,

²⁵ And he said unto them, Did ye never read what David did, when he had need, and was an hungred, he, and they that were with him?

⁴⁷ The chief priests therefore and the Pharisees gathered a council, and said, What do we? for this man doeth many signs. ⁴⁸ If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him: and the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation.

¹⁶ saying, What shall we do to these men? for that indeed a notable miracle hath been wrought through them, is manifest to all that dwell in Jerusalem; and we cannot deny it. ¹⁷ But that it spread no further among the people, let us threaten them, that they speak henceforth to no man in this name. ¹⁸ And they called them, and charged them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus.

⁸ Be thou instructed, O Jerusalem, lest my soul be alienated from thee; lest I make thee a desolation, a land not inhabited.

¹² Though they bring up their children, yet will I bereave them, that there be not a man left: yea, woe also to them when I depart from them!

⁴ An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of Jonah. And he left them, and departed.

⁶ Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper,

⁷ And Jesus with his disciples withdrew to the sea: and a great multitude from Galilee followed: and from Judaea,

¹ And when they draw nigh unto Jerusalem, unto Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount of Olives, he sendeth two of his disciples,

¹⁹ And every evening he went forth out of the city.

³⁷ And all the people of the country of the Gerasenes round about asked him to depart from them; for they were holden with great fear: and he entered into a boat, and returned. ³⁸ But the man from whom the devils were gone out prayed him that he might be with him: but he sent him away, saying,

³⁸ Now as they went on their way, he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house.

²⁹ And it came to pass, when he drew nigh unto Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount that is called [the mount] of Olives, he sent two of the disciples,

⁵⁰ And he led them out until [they were] over against Bethany: and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them.

¹ Now a certain man was sick, Lazarus of Bethany, of the village of Mary and her sister Martha.

¹⁸ Now Bethany was nigh unto Jerusalem, about fifteen furlongs off;

¹ Jesus therefore six days before the passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, whom Jesus raised from the dead. ² So they made him a supper there: and Martha served; but Lazarus was one of them that sat at meat with him. ³ Mary therefore took a pound of ointment of spikenard, very precious, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment.

² And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he afterward hungered.

¹ At that season Jesus went on the sabbath day through the cornfields; and his disciples were an hungred, and began to pluck ears of corn, and to eat.

¹² And on the morrow, when they were come out from Bethany, he hungered. ¹³ And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if haply he might find anything thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for it was not the season of figs. ¹⁴ And he answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit from thee henceforward for ever. And his disciples heard it.

²⁰ And as they passed by in the morning, they saw the fig tree withered away from the roots. ²¹ And Peter calling to remembrance saith unto him, Rabbi, behold, the fig tree which thou cursedst is withered away. ²² And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. ²³ Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou taken up and cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that what he saith cometh to pass; he shall have it. ²⁴ Therefore I say unto you, All things whatsoever ye pray and ask for, believe that ye have received them, and ye shall have them.

² during forty days, being tempted of the devil. And he did eat nothing in those days: and when they were completed, he hungered.

¹⁵ For we have not a high priest that cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but one that hath been in all points tempted like as [we are, yet] without sin.

⁴ What could have been done more to my vineyard, that I have not done in it? wherefore, when I looked that it should bring forth grapes, brought it forth wild grapes? ⁵ And now go to; I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard: I will take away the hedge thereof, and it shall be eaten up; I will break down the fence thereof, and it shall be trodden down:

¹⁴ And he answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit from thee henceforward for ever. And his disciples heard it.

⁹ And even now is the axe also laid unto the root of the trees: every tree therefore that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

⁶ And he spake this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came seeking fruit thereon, and found none. ⁷ And he said unto the vinedresser, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why doth it also cumber the ground? ⁸ And he answering saith unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it: ⁹ and if it bear fruit thenceforth, [well]; but if not, thou shalt cut it down.

⁴² saying, If thou hadst known in this day, even thou, the things which belong unto peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes. ⁴³ For the days shall come upon thee, when thine enemies shall cast up a bank about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side, ⁴⁴ and shall dash thee to the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.

² Every branch in me that beareth not fruit, he taketh it away: and every [branch] that beareth fruit, he cleanseth it, that it may bear more fruit.

⁶ If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and they gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.

⁵ holding a form of godliness, but having denied the power thereof: from these also turn away.

¹⁶ They profess that they know God; but by their works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.

⁷ For the land which hath drunk the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them for whose sake it is also tilled, receiveth blessing from God: ⁸ but if it beareth thorns and thistles, it is rejected and nigh unto a curse; whose end is to be burned.

²⁰ For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein and overcome, the last state is become worse with them than the first. ²¹ For it were better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after knowing it, to turn back from the holy commandment delivered unto them. ²² It has happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog turning to his own vomit again, and the sow that had washed to wallowing in the mire.

¹² These are they who are hidden rocks in your love-feasts when they feast with you, shepherds that without fear feed themselves; clouds without water, carried along by winds; autumn trees without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots;

¹¹ He that is unrighteous, let him do unrighteousness still: and he that is filthy, let him be made filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him do righteousness still: and he that is holy, let him be made holy still.

⁶ The voice of one saying, Cry. And one said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field: ⁷ The grass withereth, the flower fadeth; because the breath of the LORD bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass. ⁸ The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.

²⁰ And as they passed by in the morning, they saw the fig tree withered away from the roots. ²¹ And Peter calling to remembrance saith unto him, Rabbi, behold, the fig tree which thou cursedst is withered away.

¹⁰ and the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away. ¹¹ For the sun ariseth with the scorching wind, and withereth the grass; and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his goings.

¹² but the sons of the kingdom shall be cast forth into the outer darkness: there shall be the weeping and gnashing of teeth.

²⁰ And he saith unto them, Because of your little faith: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

²² And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. ²³ Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou taken up and cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that what he saith cometh to pass; he shall have it.

⁶ And the Lord said, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye would say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou rooted up, and be thou planted in the sea; and it would have obeyed you. ⁷ But who is there of you, having a servant plowing or keeping sheep, that will say unto him, when he is come in from the field, Come straightway and sit down to meat;

¹⁹ And without being weakened in faith he considered his own body now as good as dead (he being about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah’s womb: ²⁰ yea, looking unto the promise of God, he wavered not through unbelief, but waxed strong through faith, giving glory to God,

² And if I have [the gift of] prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.

⁶ But let him ask in faith, nothing doubting: for he that doubteth is like the surge of the sea driven by the wind and tossed.

⁷ Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:

¹¹ If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?

¹⁹ Again I say unto you, that if two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.

²⁴ Therefore I say unto you, All things whatsoever ye pray and ask for, believe that ye have received them, and ye shall have them.

⁸ I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will arise and give him as many as he needeth. ⁹ And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. ¹⁰ For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

¹³ And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

⁷ If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatsoever ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

²⁴ Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be fulfilled.

¹⁶ Confess therefore your sins one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The supplication of a righteous man availeth much in its working.

²² and whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do the things that are pleasing in his sight.

¹⁴ And this is the boldness which we have toward him, that, if we ask anything according to his will, he heareth us: ¹⁵ and if we know that he heareth us whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions which we have asked of him.

¹⁴ And he said, Who made thee a prince and a judge over us? thinkest thou to kill me, as thou killedst the Egyptian? And Moses feared, and said, Surely the thing is known.

¹ And the courses of the sons of Aaron [were these]. The sons of Aaron; Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar. ² But Nadab and Abihu died before their father, and had no children: therefore Eleazar and Ithamar executed the priest office. ³ And David with Zadok of the sons of Eleazar, and Ahimelech of the sons of Ithamar, divided them according to their ordering in their service. ⁴ And there were more chief men found of the sons of Eleazar than of the sons of Ithamar; and [thus] were they divided: of the sons of Eleazar there were sixteen, heads of father’s houses; and of the sons of Ithamar, according to their fathers’ houses, eight. ⁵ Thus were they divided by lot, one sort with another; for there were princes of the sanctuary, and princes of God, both of the sons of Eleazar, and of the sons of Ithamar. ⁶ And Shemaiah the son of Nethanel the scribe, who was of the Levites, wrote them in the presence of the king, and the princes, and Zadok the priest, and Ahimelech the son of Abiathar, and the heads of the fathers’ [houses] of the priests and of the Levites: one fathers’ house being taken for Eleazar, and one taken for Ithamar. ⁷ Now the first lot came forth to Jehoiarib, the second to Jedaiah; ⁸ the third to Harim, the fourth to Seorim; ⁹ the fifth to Malchijah, the sixth to Mijamin; ¹⁰ the seventh to Hakkoz, the eighth to Abijah; ¹¹ the ninth to Jeshua, the tenth to Shecaniah; ¹² the eleventh to Eliashib, the twelfth to Jakim; ¹³ the thirteenth to Huppah, the fourteenth to Jeshebeab; ¹⁴ the fifteenth to Bilgah, the sixteenth to Immer; ¹⁵ the seventeenth to Hezir, the eighteenth to Happizzez; ¹⁶ the nineteenth to Pethahiah, the twentieth to Jehezkel; ¹⁷ the one and twentieth to Jachin, the two and twentieth to Gamul; ¹⁸ the three and twentieth to Delaiah, the four and twentieth to Maaziah. ¹⁹ This was the ordering of them in their service, to come into the house of the LORD according to the ordinance [given] unto them by the hand of Aaron their father, as the LORD, the God of Israel, had commanded him.

⁵⁵ In that hour said Jesus to the multitudes, Are ye come out as against a robber with swords and staves to seize me? I sat daily in the temple teaching, and ye took me not.

²⁷ And they come again to Jerusalem: and as he was walking in the temple, there come to him the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders; ²⁸ and they said unto him, By what authority doest thou these things? or who gave thee this authority to do these things? ²⁹ And Jesus said unto them, I will ask of you one question, and answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things. ³⁰ The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or from men? answer me. ³¹ And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say, Why then did ye not believe him? ³² But should we say, From men—they feared the people: for all verily held John to be a prophet. ³³ And they answered Jesus and say, We know not. And Jesus saith unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things.

⁴⁷ And he was teaching daily in the temple. But the chief priests and the scribes and the principal men of the people sought to destroy him:

⁷ And when they had set them in the midst, they inquired, By what power, or in what name, have ye done this?

²⁷ But he that did his neighbour wrong thrust him away, saying, Who made thee a ruler and a judge over us?

⁴ Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him. ⁵ Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit.

¹⁶ Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.

⁹ And Jesus said unto them, I ask you, Is it lawful on the sabbath to do good, or to do harm? to save a life, or to destroy it?

⁶ Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer each one.

¹ And in those days cometh John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, ² saying, Repent ye; for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. ³ For this is he that was spoken of by Isaiah the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make ye ready the way of the Lord, Make his paths straight. ⁴ Now John himself had his raiment of camel’s hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his food was locusts and wild honey. ⁵ Then went out unto him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan; ⁶ and they were baptized of him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins. ⁷ But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said unto them, Ye offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? ⁸ Bring forth therefore fruit worthy of repentance: ⁹ and think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham. ¹⁰ And even now is the axe laid unto the root of the trees: every tree therefore that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. ¹¹ I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and [with] fire: ¹² whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly cleanse his threshing-floor; and he will gather his wheat into the garner, but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire.

⁷ And as these went their way, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to behold? a reed shaken with the wind? ⁸ But what went ye out for to see? a man clothed in soft [raiment]? Behold, they that wear soft [raiment] are in kings’ houses. ⁹ But wherefore went ye out? to see a prophet? Yea, I say unto you, and much more than a prophet. ¹⁰ This is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, Who shall prepare thy way before thee. ¹¹ Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not arisen a greater than John the Baptist: yet he that is but little in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. ¹² And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and men of violence take it by force. ¹³ For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John. ¹⁴ And if ye are willing to receive [it], this is Elijah, which is to come. ¹⁵ He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

¹² but I say unto you, that Elijah is come already, and they knew him not, but did unto him whatsoever they listed. Even so shall the Son of man also suffer of them. ¹³ Then understood the disciples that he spake unto them of John the Baptist.

¹¹ And there appeared unto him an angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the altar of incense. ¹² And Zacharias was troubled when he saw [him], and fear fell upon him. ¹³ But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: because thy supplication is heard, and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John. ¹⁴ And thou shalt have joy and gladness; and many shall rejoice at his birth. ¹⁵ For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and he shall drink no wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother’s womb. ¹⁶ And many of the children of Israel shall he turn unto the Lord their God. ¹⁷ And he shall go before his face in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient [to walk] in the wisdom of the just; to make ready for the Lord a people prepared [for him].

⁶⁷ And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Ghost, and prophesied, saying, ⁶⁸ Blessed [be] the Lord, the God of Israel; For he hath visited and wrought redemption for his people, ⁶⁹ And hath raised up a horn of salvation for us In the house of his servant David ⁷⁰ (As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets which have been since the world began), ⁷¹ Salvation from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us; ⁷² To shew mercy towards our fathers, And to remember his holy covenant; ⁷³ The oath which he sware unto Abraham our father, ⁷⁴ To grant unto us that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies Should serve him without fear, ⁷⁵ In holiness and righteousness before him all our days. ⁷⁶ Yea and thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Most High: For thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to make ready his ways; ⁷⁷ To give knowledge of salvation unto his people In the remission of their sins, ⁷⁸ Because of the tender mercy of our God, Whereby the dayspring from on high shall visit us, ⁷⁹ To shine upon them that sit in darkness and the shadow of death; To guide our feet into the way of peace. ⁸⁰ And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his shewing unto Israel.

And he said unto them, Do violence to no man, neither exact [anything] wrongfully; and be content with your wages. ¹⁵ And as the people were in expectation, and all men reasoned in their hearts concerning John, whether haply he were the Christ; ¹⁶ John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but there cometh he that is mightier than I, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and [with] fire: ¹⁷ whose fan is in his hand, throughly to cleanse his threshing-floor, and to gather the wheat into his garner; but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire. ¹⁸ With many other exhortations therefore preached he good tidings unto the people; ¹⁹ but Herod the tetrarch, being reproved by him for Herodias his brother’s wife, and for all the evil things which Herod had done, ²⁰ added yet this above all, that he shut up John in prison.

²⁸ I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there is none greater than John: yet he that is but little in the kingdom of God is greater than he. ²⁹ And all the people when they heard, and the publicans, justified God, being baptized with the baptism of John. ³⁰ But the Pharisees and the lawyers rejected for themselves the counsel of God, being not baptized of him. ³¹ Whereunto then shall I liken the men of this generation, and to what are they like? ³² They are like unto children that sit in the marketplace, and call one to another; which say, We piped unto you, and ye did not dance; we wailed, and ye did not weep. ³³ For John the Baptist is come eating no bread nor drinking wine; and ye say, He hath a devil. ³⁴ The Son of man is come eating and drinking; and ye say, Behold, a gluttonous man, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners! ³⁵ And wisdom is justified of all her children.

⁵ And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say, Why did ye not believe him?

⁶ There came a man, sent from God, whose name was John.

¹⁵ John beareth witness of him, and crieth, saying, This was he of whom I said, He that cometh after me is become before me: for he was before me.

²⁵ And they asked him, and said unto him, Why then baptizest thou, if thou art not the Christ, neither Elijah, neither the prophet? ²⁶ John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: in the midst of you standeth one whom ye know not, ²⁷ [even] he that cometh after me, the latchet of whose shoe I am not worthy to unloose. ²⁸ These things were done in Bethany beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing. ²⁹ On the morrow he seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold, the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world! ³⁰ This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is become before me: for he was before me. ³¹ And I knew him not; but that he should be made manifest to Israel, for this cause came I baptizing with water. ³² And John bare witness, saying, I have beheld the Spirit descending as a dove out of heaven; and it abode upon him. ³³ And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, he said unto me, Upon whomsoever thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and abiding upon him, the same is he that baptizeth with the Holy Spirit. ³⁴ And I have seen, and have borne witness that this is the Son of God.

¹⁸ He that believeth on him is not judged: he that believeth not hath been judged already, because he hath not believed on the name of the only begotten Son of God.

²⁶ And they came unto John, and said to him, Rabbi, he that was with thee beyond Jordan, to whom thou hast borne witness, behold, the same baptizeth, and all men come to him. ²⁷ John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it have been given him from heaven. ²⁸ Ye yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but, that I am sent before him. ²⁹ He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled. ³⁰ He must increase, but I must decrease. ³¹ He that cometh from above is above all: he that is of the earth is of the earth, and of the earth he speaketh: he that cometh from heaven is above all. ³² What he hath seen and heard, of that he beareth witness; and no man receiveth his witness. ³³ He that hath received his witness hath set his seal to [this], that God is true. ³⁴ For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for he giveth not the Spirit by measure. ³⁵ The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand. ³⁶ He that believeth on the Son hath eternal life; but he that obeyeth not the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abideth on him.

³³ Ye have sent unto John, and he hath borne witness unto the truth. ³⁴ But the witness which I receive is not from man: howbeit I say these things, that ye may be saved. ³⁵ He was the lamp that burneth and shineth: and ye were willing to rejoice for a season in his light. ³⁶ But the witness which I have is greater than [that of] John: for the works which the Father hath given me to accomplish, the very works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me.

⁴⁴ How can ye believe, which receive glory one of another, and the glory that [cometh] from the only God ye seek not? ⁴⁵ Think not that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you, [even] Moses, on whom ye have set your hope. ⁴⁶ For if ye believed Moses, ye would believe me; for he wrote of me. ⁴⁷ But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?

²⁵ Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believe not: the works that I do in my Father’s name, these bear witness of me. ²⁶ But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep.

³⁷ But though he had done so many signs before them, yet they believed not on him: ³⁸ that the word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath believed our report? And to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed? ³⁹ For this cause they could not believe, for that Isaiah said again, ⁴⁰ He hath blinded their eyes, and he hardened their heart; Lest they should see with their eyes, and perceive with their heart, And should turn, And I should heal them. ⁴¹ These things said Isaiah, because he saw his glory; and he spake of him. ⁴² Nevertheless even of the rulers many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess [it], lest they should be put out of the synagogue: ⁴³ for they loved the glory of men more than the glory of God.

²⁰ whereinsoever our heart condemn us; because God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.

¹¹ And of whom hast thou been afraid and in fear, that thou liest, and hast not remembered me, nor laid it to thy heart? have not I held my peace even of long time, and fearest me not?

⁹ But wherefore went ye out? to see a prophet? Yea, I say unto you, and much more than a prophet.

⁵ And when he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.

⁴⁶ And when they sought to lay hold on him, they feared the multitudes, because they took him for a prophet.

²⁰ for Herod feared John, knowing that he was a righteous man and a holy, and kept him safe. And when he heard him, he was much perplexed; and he heard him gladly.

³² But should we say, From men—they feared the people: for all verily held John to be a prophet.

¹² And they sought to lay hold on him; and they feared the multitude; for they perceived that he spake the parable against them: and they left him, and went away.

⁶ But if we shall say, From men; all the people will stone us: for they be persuaded that John was a prophet.

¹⁹ And the scribes and the chief priests sought to lay hands on him in that very hour; and they feared the people: for they perceived that he spake this parable against them.

³⁵ He was the lamp that burneth and shineth: and ye were willing to rejoice for a season in his light.

²² These things said his parents, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man should confess him [to be] Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue.

⁴¹ And many came unto him; and they said, John indeed did no sign: but all things whatsoever John spake of this man were true. ⁴² And many believed on him there.

²⁶ Then went the captain with the officers, and brought them, [but] without violence; for they feared the people, lest they should be stoned.

¹⁰ Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and turn again, and be healed.

⁹ Whom will he teach knowledge? and whom will he make to understand the message? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts?

¹⁰ For the LORD hath poured out upon you the spirit of deep sleep, and hath closed your eyes, the prophets; and your heads, the seers, hath he covered. ¹¹ And all vision is become unto you as the words of a book that is sealed, which men deliver to one that is learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I cannot, for it is sealed: ¹² and the book is delivered to him that is not learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I am not learned.

¹⁹ Who is blind, but my servant? or deaf, as my messenger that I send? who is blind as he that is at peace [with me], and blind as the LORD’S servant? ²⁰ Thou seest many things, but thou observest not; his ears are open, but he heareth not.

¹⁰ His watchmen are blind, they are all without knowledge; they are all dumb dogs, they cannot bark; dreaming, lying down, loving to slumber. ¹¹ Yea, the dogs are greedy, they can never have enough; and these are shepherds that cannot understand: they have all turned to their own way, each one to his gain, from every quarter.

⁷ Yea, the stork in the heaven knoweth her appointed times; and the turtle and the swallow and the crane observe the time of their coming; but my people know not the ordinance of the LORD. ⁸ How do ye say, We are wise, and the law of the LORD is with us? But, behold, the false pen of the scribes hath wrought falsely. ⁹ The wise men are ashamed, they are dismayed and taken: lo, they have rejected the word of the LORD; and what manner of wisdom is in them?

⁶ The law of truth was in his mouth, and unrighteousness was not found in his lips: he walked with me in peace and uprightness, and did turn many away from iniquity. ⁷ For the priest’s lips should keep knowledge, and they should seek the law at his mouth: for he is the messenger of the LORD of hosts. ⁸ But ye are turned aside out of the way; ye have caused many to stumble in the law; ye have corrupted the covenant of Levi, saith the LORD of hosts. ⁹ Therefore have I also made you contemptible and base before all the people, according as ye have not kept my ways, but have had respect of persons in the law.

¹⁴ Let them alone: they are blind guides. And if the blind guide the blind, both shall fall into a pit.

³ And in the morning, [It will be] foul weather today: for the heaven is red and lowring. Ye know how to discern the face of the heaven; but ye cannot [discern] the signs of the times.

¹⁶ Woe unto you, ye blind guides, which say, Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor. ¹⁷ Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gold, or the temple that hath sanctified the gold? ¹⁸ And, Whosoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gift that is upon it, he is a debtor. ¹⁹ Ye blind: for whether is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifieth the gift? ²⁰ He therefore that sweareth by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all things thereon. ²¹ And he that sweareth by the temple, sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth therein. ²² And he that sweareth by the heaven, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him that sitteth thereon. ²³ Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye tithe mint and anise and cummin, and have left undone the weightier matters of the law, judgment, and mercy, and faith: but these ye ought to have done, and not to have left the other undone. ²⁴ Ye blind guides, which strain out the gnat, and swallow the camel. ²⁵ Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye cleanse the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full from extortion and excess. ²⁶ Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first the inside of the cup and of the platter, that the outside thereof may become clean also. ²⁷ Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which outwardly appear beautiful, but inwardly are full of dead men’s bones, and of all uncleanness. ²⁸ Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but inwardly ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.

⁷ And they answered, that they knew not whence [it was]. ⁸ And Jesus said unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things.

³⁰ The man answered and said unto them, Why, herein is the marvel, that ye know not whence he is, and [yet] he opened mine eyes.

⁴⁰ Those of the Pharisees which were with him heard these things, and said unto him, Are we also blind? ⁴¹ Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye would have no sin: but now ye say, We see: your sin remaineth.

¹⁸ For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold down the truth in unrighteousness; ¹⁹ because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God manifested it unto them. ²⁰ For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, [even] his everlasting power and divinity; that they may be without excuse: ²¹ because that, knowing God, they glorified him not as God, neither gave thanks; but became vain in their reasonings, and their senseless heart was darkened. ²² Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

²⁸ And even as they refused to have God in [their] knowledge, God gave them up unto a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not fitting;

³ But and if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled in them that are perishing:

⁹ [even he], whose coming is according to the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, ¹⁰ and with all deceit of unrighteousness for them that are perishing; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

²⁵ He saith, Yea. And when he came into the house, Jesus spake first to him, saying, What thinkest thou, Simon? the kings of the earth, from whom do they receive toll or tribute? from their sons, or from strangers?

¹ For the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is a householder, which went out early in the morning to hire labourers into his vineyard.

⁵ Again he went out about the sixth and the ninth hour, and did likewise. ⁶ And about the eleventh [hour] he went out, and found others standing; and he saith unto them, Why stand ye here all the day idle? ⁷ They say unto him, Because no man hath hired us. He saith unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard.

³³ Hear another parable: There was a man that was a householder, which planted a vineyard, and set a hedge about it, and digged a winepress in it, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into another country.

¹⁷ Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not?

³⁴ [It is] as [when] a man, sojourning in another country, having left his house, and given authority to his servants, to each one his work, commanded also the porter to watch.

⁴ Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and killed them, think ye that they were offenders above all the men that dwell in Jerusalem?

¹¹ And he said, A certain man had two sons: ¹² and the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of [thy] substance that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living. ¹³ And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country; and there he wasted his substance with riotous living. ¹⁴ And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that country; and he began to be in want. ¹⁵ And he went and joined himself to one of the citizens of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine. ¹⁶ And he would fain have been filled with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him. ¹⁷ But when he came to himself he said, How many hired servants of my father’s have bread enough and to spare, and I perish here with hunger! ¹⁸ I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight: ¹⁹ I am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants. ²⁰ And he arose, and came to his father. But while he was yet afar off, his father saw him, and was moved with compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him. ²¹ And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight: I am no more worthy to be called thy son. ²² But the father said to his servants, Bring forth quickly the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet: ²³ and bring the fatted calf, [and] kill it, and let us eat, and make merry: ²⁴ for this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry. ²⁵ Now his elder son was in the field: and as he came and drew nigh to the house, he heard music and dancing. ²⁶ And he called to him one of the servants, and inquired what these things might be. ²⁷ And he said unto him, Thy brother is come; and thy father hath killed the fatted calf, because he hath received him safe and sound. ²⁸ But he was angry, and would not go in: and his father came out, and entreated him. ²⁹ But he answered and said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, and I never transgressed a commandment of thine: and [yet] thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends: ³⁰ but when this thy son came, which hath devoured thy living with harlots, thou killedst for him the fatted calf. ³¹ And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that is mine is thine. ³² But it was meet to make merry and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive [again]; and [was] lost, and is found.

¹⁵ I speak as to wise men; judge ye what I say.

⁵⁸ Wherefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not vain in the Lord.

¹⁰ And the LORD spake to Manasseh, and to his people: but they gave no heed. ¹¹ Wherefore the LORD brought upon them the captains of the host of the king of Assyria, which took Manasseh in chains, and bound him with fetters, and carried him to Babylon. ¹² And when he was in distress, he besought the LORD his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers. ¹³ And he prayed unto him; and he was entreated of him, and heard his supplication, and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the LORD he was God. ¹⁴ Now after this he built an outer wall to the city of David, on the west side of Gihon, in the valley, even to the entering in at the fish gate; and he compassed about Ophel, and raised it up a very great height: and he put valiant captains in all the fenced cities of Judah. ¹⁵ And he took away the strange gods, and the idol out of the house of the LORD, and all the altars that he had built in the mount of the house of the LORD, and in Jerusalem, and cast them out of the city. ¹⁶ And he built up the altar of the LORD, and offered thereon sacrifices of peace offerings and of thanksgiving, and commanded Judah to serve the LORD, the God of Israel. ¹⁷ Nevertheless the people did sacrifice still in the high places, but only unto the LORD their God. ¹⁸ Now the rest of the acts of Manasseh, and his prayer unto his God, and the words of the seers that spake to him in the name of the LORD, the God of Israel, behold, they are written among the acts of the kings of Israel. ¹⁹ His prayer also, and how [God] was entreated of him, and all his sin and his trespass, and the places wherein he built high places, and set up the Asherim and the graven images, before he humbled himself: behold, they are written in the history of Hozai.

¹⁶ Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil: ¹⁷ learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow. ¹⁸ Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. ¹⁹ If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land:

⁶ Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: ⁷ let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

¹⁶ As for the word that thou hast spoken unto us in the name of the LORD, we will not hearken unto thee.

²⁸ Because he considereth, and turneth away from all his transgressions that he hath committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die. ²⁹ Yet saith the house of Israel, The way of the Lord is not equal. O house of Israel, are not my ways equal? are not your ways unequal? ³⁰ Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, saith the Lord GOD. Return ye, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin. ³¹ Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereto ye have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel? ³² For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord GOD: wherefore turn yourselves, and live.

³⁴ And at the end of the days I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine eyes unto heaven, and mine understanding returned unto me, and I blessed the Most High, and I praised and honoured him that liveth for ever; for his dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom from generation to generation: ³⁵ And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou? ³⁶ At the same time mine understanding returned unto me; and for the glory of my kingdom, my majesty and brightness returned unto me; and my counsellors and my lords sought unto me; and I was established in my kingdom, and excellent greatness was added unto me. ³⁷ Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise and extol and honour the King of heaven; for all his works are truth, and his ways judgment: and those that walk in pride he is able to abase.

² Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee.

⁸ but let them be covered with sackcloth, both man and beast, and let them cry mightily unto God: yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands. ⁹ Who knoweth whether God will not turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not? ¹⁰ And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, which he said he would do unto them; and he did it not.

² saying, Repent ye; for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. ³ For this is he that was spoken of by Isaiah the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make ye ready the way of the Lord, Make his paths straight. ⁴ Now John himself had his raiment of camel’s hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his food was locusts and wild honey. ⁵ Then went out unto him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan; ⁶ and they were baptized of him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins. ⁷ But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said unto them, Ye offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? ⁸ Bring forth therefore fruit worthy of repentance:

³¹ Whether of the twain did the will of his father? They say, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, that the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.

¹⁷ But when he came to himself he said, How many hired servants of my father’s have bread enough and to spare, and I perish here with hunger! ¹⁸ I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight:

²⁰ but declared both to them of Damascus first, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the country of Judaea, and also to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, doing works worthy of repentance.

¹¹ And such were some of you: but ye were washed, but ye were sanctified, but ye were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and in the Spirit of our God.

¹ And you [did he quicken], when ye were dead through your trespasses and sins, ² wherein aforetime ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that now worketh in the sons of disobedience; ³ among whom we also all once lived in the lusts of our flesh, doing the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest:— ⁴ but God, being rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, ⁵ even when we were dead through our trespasses, quickened us together with Christ (by grace have ye been saved), ⁶ and raised us up with him, and made us to sit with him in the heavenly [places], in Christ Jesus: ⁷ that in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus: ⁸ for by grace have ye been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of God: ⁹ not of works, that no man should glory. ¹⁰ For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God afore prepared that we should walk in them. ¹¹ Wherefore remember, that aforetime ye, the Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called Circumcision, in the flesh, made by hands; ¹² that ye were at that time separate from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of the promise, having no hope and without God in the world. ¹³ But now in Christ Jesus ye that once were far off are made nigh in the blood of Christ.

¹⁷ This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye no longer walk as the Gentiles also walk, in the vanity of their mind, ¹⁸ being darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardening of their heart; ¹⁹ who being past feeling gave themselves up to lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.

³¹ And they come unto thee as the people cometh, and they sit before thee as my people, and they hear thy words, but do them not: for with their mouth they shew much love, but their heart goeth after their gain.

³ all things therefore whatsoever they bid you, [these] do and observe: but do not ye after their works; for they say, and do not.

¹⁷ But if thou bearest the name of a Jew, and restest upon the law, and gloriest in God, ¹⁸ and knowest his will, and approvest the things that are excellent, being instructed out of the law, ¹⁹ and art confident that thou thyself art a guide of the blind, a light of them that are in darkness, ²⁰ a corrector of the foolish, a teacher of babes, having in the law the form of knowledge and of the truth; ²¹ thou therefore that teachest another, teachest thou not thyself? thou that preachest a man should not steal, dost thou steal? ²² thou that sayest a man should not commit adultery, dost thou commit adultery? thou that abhorrest idols, dost thou rob temples? ²³ thou who gloriest in the law, through thy transgression of the law dishonourest thou God? ²⁴ For the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you, even as it is written. ²⁵ For circumcision indeed profiteth, if thou be a doer of the law: but if thou be a transgressor of the law, thy circumcision is become uncircumcision.

⁵ And David’s anger was greatly kindled against the man; and he said to Nathan, As the LORD liveth, the man that hath done this is worthy to die: ⁶ and he shall restore the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing, and because he had no pity. ⁷ And Nathan said to David, Thou art the man. Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel, I anointed thee king over Israel, and I delivered thee out of the hand of Saul;

⁶ Thine own mouth condemneth thee, and not I; yea, thine own lips testify against thee.

¹¹ Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?

¹⁸ For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass away from the law, till all things be accomplished.

⁵ And when ye pray, ye shall not be as the hypocrites: for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have received their reward.

²¹ Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

⁹ And as Jesus passed by from thence, he saw a man, called Matthew, sitting at the place of toll: and he saith unto him, Follow me. And he arose, and followed him.

⁵⁰ For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, he is my brother, and sister, and mother.

³ and said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye turn, and become as little children, ye shall in no wise enter into the kingdom of heaven.

¹⁶ So the last shall be first, and the first last.

²⁹ And all the people when they heard, and the publicans, justified God, being baptized with the baptism of John.

³⁷ And behold, a woman which was in the city, a sinner; and when she knew that he was sitting at meat in the Pharisee’s house, she brought an alabaster cruse of ointment, ³⁸ and standing behind at his feet, weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears, and wiped them with the hair of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment. ³⁹ Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have perceived who and what manner of woman this is which touched him, that she is a sinner. ⁴⁰ And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And he saith, Master, say on. ⁴¹ A certain lender had two debtors: the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty. ⁴² When they had not [wherewith] to pay, he forgave them both. Which of them therefore will love him most? ⁴³ Simon answered and said, He, I suppose, to whom he forgave the most. And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged. ⁴⁴ And turning to the woman, he said unto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered into thine house, thou gavest me no water for my feet: but she hath wetted my feet with her tears, and wiped them with her hair. ⁴⁵ Thou gavest me no kiss: but she, since the time I came in, hath not ceased to kiss my feet. ⁴⁶ My head with oil thou didst not anoint: but she hath anointed my feet with ointment. ⁴⁷ Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, [the same] loveth little. ⁴⁸ And he said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven. ⁴⁹ And they that sat at meat with him began to say within themselves, Who is this that even forgiveth sins? ⁵⁰ And he said unto the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.

¹ Now all the publicans and sinners were drawing near unto him for to hear him. ² And both the Pharisees and the scribes murmured, saying, This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them.

¹⁰ Even so, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.

⁹ And Jesus said unto him, Today is salvation come to this house, forasmuch as he also is a son of Abraham. ¹⁰ For the Son of man came to seek and to save that which was lost.

²² He saith unto him, Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked servant. Thou knewest that I am an austere man, taking up that I laid not down, and reaping that I did not sow;

³⁰ The times of ignorance therefore God overlooked; but now he commandeth men that they should all everywhere repent:

¹⁹ Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it speaketh to them that are under the law; that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may be brought under the judgment of God:

²⁰ And the law came in beside, that the trespass might abound; but where sin abounded, grace did abound more exceedingly:

³⁰ What shall we say then? That the Gentiles, which followed not after righteousness, attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith: ³¹ but Israel, following after a law of righteousness, did not arrive at [that] law. ³² Wherefore? Because [they sought it] not by faith, but as it were by works. They stumbled at the stone of stumbling; ³³ even as it is written, Behold, I lay in Zion a stone of stumbling and a rock of offence: And he that believeth on him shall not be put to shame.

¹³ though I was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: howbeit I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief; ¹⁴ and the grace of our Lord abounded exceedingly with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. ¹⁵ Faithful is the saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief: ¹⁶ howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me as chief might Jesus Christ shew forth all his longsuffering, for an ensample of them which should hereafter believe on him unto eternal life.

⁹ The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some count slackness; but is longsuffering to you-ward, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

¹¹ But my people hearkened not to my voice; and Israel would none of me. ¹² So I let them go after the stubbornness of their heart, that they might walk in their own counsels.

⁸ And an highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called The way of holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; but it shall be for those: the wayfaring men, yea fools, shall not err [therein].

¹⁶ Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls: but they said, We will not walk [therein].

¹¹ But they refused to hearken, and pulled away the shoulder, and stopped their ears, that they should not hear. ¹² Yea, they made their hearts as an adamant stone, lest they should hear the law, and the words which the LORD of hosts had sent by his spirit by the hand of the former prophets: therefore came there great wrath from the LORD of hosts.

¹⁸ For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil.

²⁵ The baptism of John, whence was it? from heaven or from men? And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say unto us, Why then did ye not believe him?

⁸ Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham. ⁹ And even now is the axe also laid unto the root of the trees: every tree therefore that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. ¹⁰ And the multitudes asked him, saying, What then must we do? ¹¹ And he answered and said unto them, He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath food, let him do likewise. ¹² And there came also publicans to be baptized, and they said unto him, Master, what must we do? ¹³ And he said unto them, Extort no more than that which is appointed you.

²⁹ And all the people when they heard, and the publicans, justified God, being baptized with the baptism of John. ³⁰ But the Pharisees and the lawyers rejected for themselves the counsel of God, being not baptized of him.

³³ Ye have sent unto John, and he hath borne witness unto the truth. ³⁴ But the witness which I receive is not from man: howbeit I say these things, that ye may be saved. ³⁵ He was the lamp that burneth and shineth: and ye were willing to rejoice for a season in his light. ³⁶ But the witness which I have is greater than [that of] John: for the works which the Father hath given me to accomplish, the very works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me. ³⁷ And the Father which sent me, he hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his form. ³⁸ And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he sent, him ye believe not. ³⁹ Ye search the scriptures, because ye think that in them ye have eternal life; and these are they which bear witness of me; ⁴⁰ and ye will not come to me, that ye may have life.

²⁵ And as John was fulfilling his course, he said, What suppose ye that I am? I am not [he]. But behold, there cometh one after me, the shoes of whose feet I am not worthy to unloose. ²⁶ Brethren, children of the stock of Abraham, and those among you that fear God, to us is the word of this salvation sent forth. ²⁷ For they that dwell in Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they knew him not, nor the voices of the prophets which are read every sabbath, fulfilled [them] by condemning [him]. ²⁸ And though they found no cause of death [in him], yet asked they of Pilate that he should be slain. ²⁹ And when they had fulfilled all things that were written of him, they took him down from the tree, and laid him in a tomb.

²⁵ in meekness correcting them that oppose themselves; if peradventure God may give them repentance unto the knowledge of the truth,

¹² Take heed, brethren, lest haply there shall be in any one of you an evil heart of unbelief, in falling away from the living God:

⁶ and [then] fell away, it is impossible to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

²¹ For it were better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after knowing it, to turn back from the holy commandment delivered unto them.

²¹ And I gave her time that she should repent; and she willeth not to repent of her fornication.

¹⁵ So I took the heads of your tribes, wise men, and known, and made them heads over you, captains of thousands, and captains of hundreds, and captains of fifties, and captains of tens, and officers, according to your tribes. ¹⁶ And I charged your judges at that time, saying, Hear [the causes] between your brethren, and judge righteously between a man and his brother, and the stranger that is with him. ¹⁷ Ye shall not respect persons in judgment; ye shall hear the small and the great alike; ye shall not be afraid of the face of man; for the judgment is God’s: and the cause that is too hard for you ye shall bring unto me, and I will hear it.

¹⁸ Judges and officers shalt thou make thee in all thy gates, which the LORD thy God giveth thee, according to thy tribes: and they shall judge the people with righteous judgment.

⁹ and thou shalt come unto the priests the Levites, and unto the judge that shall be in those days: and thou shalt inquire; and they shall shew thee the sentence of judgment: ¹⁰ and thou shalt do according to the tenor of the sentence, which they shall shew thee from that place which the LORD shall choose; and thou shalt observe to do according to all that they shall teach thee: ¹¹ according to the tenor of the law which they shall teach thee, and according to the judgment which they shall tell thee, thou shalt do: thou shalt not turn aside from the sentence which they shall shew thee, to the right hand, nor to the left. ¹² And the man that doeth presumptuously, in not hearkening unto the priest that standeth to minister there before the LORD thy God, or unto the judge, even that man shall die: and thou shalt put away the evil from Israel.

⁸ And of Levi he said, Thy Thummim and thy Urim are with thy godly one, Whom thou didst prove at Massah, With whom thou didst strive at the waters of Meribah; ⁹ Who said of his father, and of his mother, I have not seen him; Neither did he acknowledge his brethren, Nor knew he his own children: For they have observed thy word, And keep thy covenant. ¹⁰ They shall teach Jacob thy judgments, And Israel thy law: They shall put incense before thee, And whole burnt offering upon thine altar.

¹⁹ And he said, Therefore hear thou the word of the LORD: I saw the LORD sitting on his throne, and all the host of heaven standing by him on his right hand and on his left.

⁸ Thou broughtest a vine out of Egypt: thou didst drive out the nations, and plantedst it. ⁹ Thou preparedst [room] before it, and it took deep root, and filled the land. ¹⁰ The mountains were covered with the shadow of it, and the boughs thereof were [like] cedars of God. ¹¹ She sent out her branches unto the sea, and her shoots unto the River. ¹² Why hast thou broken down her fences, so that all they which pass by the way do pluck her? ¹³ The boar out of the wood doth ravage it, and the wild beasts of the field feed on it. ¹⁴ Turn again, we beseech thee, O God of hosts: look down from heaven, and behold, and visit this vine, ¹⁵ And the stock which thy right hand hath planted, and the branch that thou madest strong for thyself. ¹⁶ It is burned with fire, it is cut down: they perish at the rebuke of thy countenance.

¹¹ Solomon had a vineyard at Baal-hamon; he let out the vineyard unto keepers; every one for the fruit thereof was to bring a thousand [pieces] of silver. ¹² My vineyard, which is mine, is before me: thou, O Solomon, shalt have the thousand, and those that keep the fruit thereof two hundred.

¹⁰ Hear the word of the LORD, ye rulers of Sodom; give ear unto the law of our God, ye people of Gomorrah.

¹ Let me sing for my wellbeloved a song of my beloved touching his vineyard. My wellbeloved had a vineyard in a very fruitful hill: ² and he made a trench about it, and gathered out the stones thereof, and planted it with the choicest vine, and built a tower in the midst of it, and also hewed out a winepress therein: and he looked that it should bring forth grapes, and it brought forth wild grapes. ³ And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem and men of Judah, judge, I pray you, betwixt me and my vineyard. ⁴ What could have been done more to my vineyard, that I have not done in it? wherefore, when I looked that it should bring forth grapes, brought it forth wild grapes?

²¹ Yet I had planted thee a noble vine, wholly a right seed: how then art thou turned into the degenerate plant of a strange vine unto me?

³ and say, Hear ye the word of the LORD, O kings of Judah, and inhabitants of Jerusalem; thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, the which whosoever heareth, his ears shall tingle.

¹ Hear the word of the LORD, ye children of Israel: for the LORD hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land.

⁴ And ye shall know that I have sent this commandment unto you, that my covenant might be with Levi, saith the LORD of hosts. ⁵ My covenant was with him of life and peace; and I gave them to him that he might fear, and he feared me, and stood in awe of my name.

¹⁸ Hear then ye the parable of the sower.

²⁸ But what think ye? A man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work today in the vineyard.

² saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses’ seat:

¹⁴ For [it is] as [when] a man, going into another country, called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods. ¹⁵ And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one; to each according to his several ability; and he went on his journey.

¹ And he began to speak unto them in parables. A man planted a vineyard, and set a hedge about it, and digged a pit for the winepress, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into another country. ² And at the season he sent to the husbandmen a servant, that he might receive from the husbandmen of the fruits of the vineyard. ³ And they took him, and beat him, and sent him away empty. ⁴ And again he sent unto them another servant; and him they wounded in the head, and handled shamefully. ⁵ And he sent another; and him they killed: and many others; beating some, and killing some. ⁶ He had yet one, a beloved son: he sent him last unto them, saying, They will reverence my son. ⁷ But those husbandmen said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and the inheritance shall be ours. ⁸ And they took him, and killed him, and cast him forth out of the vineyard. ⁹ What therefore will the lord of the vineyard do? he will come and destroy the husbandmen, and will give the vineyard unto others. ¹⁰ Have ye not read even this scripture; The stone which the builders rejected, The same was made the head of the corner: ¹¹ This was from the Lord, And it is marvelous in our eyes? ¹² And they sought to lay hold on him; and they feared the multitude; for they perceived that he spake the parable against them: and they left him, and went away.

¹² He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country, to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return.

⁹ And he began to speak unto the people this parable: A man planted a vineyard, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into another country for a long time. ¹⁰ And at the season he sent unto the husbandmen a servant, that they should give him of the fruit of the vineyard: but the husbandmen beat him, and sent him away empty. ¹¹ And he sent yet another servant: and him also they beat, and handled him shamefully, and sent him away empty. ¹² And he sent yet a third: and him also they wounded, and cast him forth. ¹³ And the lord of the vineyard said, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son: it may be they will reverence him. ¹⁴ But when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned one with another, saying, This is the heir: let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours. ¹⁵ And they cast him forth out of the vineyard, and killed him. What therefore will the lord of the vineyard do unto them? ¹⁶ He will come and destroy these husbandmen, and will give the vineyard unto others. And when they heard it, they said, God forbid. ¹⁷ But he looked upon them, and said, What then is this that is written, The stone which the builders rejected, The same was made the head of the corner? ¹⁸ Every one that falleth on that stone shall be broken to pieces; but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will scatter him as dust. ¹⁹ And the scribes and the chief priests sought to lay hands on him in that very hour; and they feared the people: for they perceived that he spake this parable against them.

¹ I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.

¹³ Yet the LORD testified unto Israel, and unto Judah, by the hand of every prophet, and of every seer, saying, Turn ye from your evil ways, and keep my commandments and my statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by the hand of my servants the prophets. ¹⁴ Notwithstanding they would not hear, but hardened their neck, like to the neck of their fathers, who believed not in the LORD their God. ¹⁵ And they rejected his statutes, and his covenant that he made with their fathers, and his testimonies which he testified unto them; and they followed vanity, and became vain, and [went] after the nations that were round about them, concerning whom the LORD had charged them that they should not do like them. ¹⁶ And they forsook all the commandments of the LORD their God, and made them molten images, even two calves, and made an Asherah, and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served Baal. ¹⁷ And they caused their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire, and used divination and enchantments, and sold themselves to do that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger. ¹⁸ Therefore the LORD was very angry with Israel, and removed them out of his sight: there was none left but the tribe of Judah only. ¹⁹ Also Judah kept not the commandments of the LORD their God, but walked in the statutes of Israel which they made. ²⁰ And the LORD rejected all the seed of Israel, and afflicted them, and delivered them into the hand of spoilers, until he had cast them out of his sight. ²¹ For he rent Israel from the house of David; and they made Jeroboam the son of Nebat king: and Jeroboam drave Israel from following the LORD, and made them sin a great sin. ²² And the children of Israel walked in all the sins of Jeroboam which he did; they departed not from them; ²³ until the LORD removed Israel out of his sight, as he spake by the hand of all his servants the prophets. So Israel was carried away out of their own land to Assyria, unto this day.

¹⁵ And the LORD, the God of their fathers, sent to them by his messengers, rising up early and sending; because he had compassion on his people, and on his dwelling place: ¹⁶ but they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and scoffed at his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till there was no remedy.

²⁹ and testifiedst against them, that thou mightest bring them again unto thy law: yet they dealt proudly, and hearkened not unto thy commandments, but sinned against thy judgments, (which if a man do, he shall live in them,) and withdrew the shoulder, and hardened their neck, and would not hear. ³⁰ Yet many years didst thou bear with them, and testifiedst against them by thy spirit through thy prophets: yet would they not give ear: therefore gavest thou them into the hand of the peoples of the lands.

⁴ What could have been done more to my vineyard, that I have not done in it? wherefore, when I looked that it should bring forth grapes, brought it forth wild grapes?

³ From the thirteenth year of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah, even unto this day, these three and twenty years, the word of the LORD hath come unto me, and I have spoken unto you, rising up early and speaking; but ye have not hearkened. ⁴ And the LORD hath sent unto you all his servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them; but ye have not hearkened, nor inclined your ear to hear; ⁵ saying, Return ye now every one from his evil way, and from the evil of your doings, and dwell in the land that the LORD hath given unto you and to your fathers, from of old and even for evermore: ⁶ and go not after other gods to serve them, and to worship them, and provoke me not to anger with the work of your hands; and I will do you no hurt. ⁷ Yet ye have not hearkened unto me, saith the LORD; that ye might provoke me to anger with the work of your hands to your own hurt.

¹⁵ I have sent also unto you all my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, Return ye now every man from his evil way, and amend your doings, and go not after other gods to serve them, and ye shall dwell in the land which I have given to you and to your fathers: but ye have not inclined your ear, nor hearkened unto me.

³ Therefore say thou unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts: Return unto me, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will return unto you, saith the LORD of hosts. ⁴ Be ye not as your fathers, unto whom the former prophets cried, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, Return ye now from your evil ways, and from your evil doings: but they did not hear, nor hearken unto me, saith the LORD. ⁵ Your fathers, where are they? and the prophets, do they live for ever? ⁶ But my words and my statutes, which I commanded my servants the prophets, did they not overtake your fathers? and they turned and said, Like as the LORD of hosts thought to do unto us, according to our ways, and according to our doings, so hath he dealt with us.

⁹ Thus hath the LORD of hosts spoken, saying, Execute true judgment, and shew mercy and compassion every man to his brother: ¹⁰ and oppress not the widow, nor the fatherless, the stranger, nor the poor; and let none of you imagine evil against his brother in your heart. ¹¹ But they refused to hearken, and pulled away the shoulder, and stopped their ears, that they should not hear. ¹² Yea, they made their hearts as an adamant stone, lest they should hear the law, and the words which the LORD of hosts had sent by his spirit by the hand of the former prophets: therefore came there great wrath from the LORD of hosts. ¹³ And it came to pass that, as he cried, and they would not hear; so they shall cry, and I will not hear, said the LORD of hosts;

³ and sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the marriage feast: and they would not come.

² And at the season he sent to the husbandmen a servant, that he might receive from the husbandmen of the fruits of the vineyard. ³ And they took him, and beat him, and sent him away empty. ⁴ And again he sent unto them another servant; and him they wounded in the head, and handled shamefully. ⁵ And he sent another; and him they killed: and many others; beating some, and killing some.

⁴ for it was so, when Jezebel cut off prophets of the LORD, that Obadiah took an hundred prophets, and hid them by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water.)

¹³ Was it not told my lord what I did when Jezebel slew the prophets of the LORD, how I hid an hundred men of the LORD’S prophets by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread an water?

² Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by tomorrow about this time.

¹⁰ And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD, the God of hosts; for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword: and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.

²⁴ Then Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah came near, and smote Micaiah on the cheek, and said, Which way went the spirit of the LORD from me to speak unto thee?

¹⁰ Then Asa was wroth with the seer, and put him in the prison house; for he was in a rage with him because of this thing. And Asa oppressed some of the people the same time.

²¹ And they conspired against him, and stoned him with stones at the commandment of the king in the court of the house of the LORD. ²² Thus Joash the king remembered not the kindness which Jehoiada his father had done to him, but slew his son. And when he died, he said, The LORD look upon it, and require it.

²⁶ Nevertheless they were disobedient, and rebelled against thee, and cast thy law behind their back, and slew thy prophets which testified against them to turn them again unto thee, and they wrought great provocations.

³⁰ In vain have I smitten your children; they received no correction: your own sword hath devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion.

²¹ and when Jehoiakim the king, with all his mighty men, and all the princes, heard his words, the king sought to put him to death; but when Uriah heard it, he was afraid, and fled, and went into Egypt: ²² and Jehoiakim the king sent men into Egypt, [namely], Elnathan the son of Achbor, and certain men with him, into Egypt: ²³ and they fetched forth Uriah out of Egypt, and brought him unto Jehoiakim the king; who slew him with the sword, and cast his dead body into the graves of the common people. ²⁴ But the hand of Ahikam the son of Shaphan was with Jeremiah, that they should not give him into the hand of the people to put him to death.

¹² Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

³¹ Wherefore ye witness to yourselves, that ye are sons of them that slew the prophets. ³² Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers. ³³ Ye serpents, ye offspring of vipers, how shall ye escape the judgment of hell? ³⁴ Therefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: some of them shall ye kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute from city to city: ³⁵ that upon you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of Abel the righteous unto the blood of Zachariah son of Barachiah, whom ye slew between the sanctuary and the altar. ³⁶ Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation. ³⁷ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killeth the prophets, and stoneth them that are sent unto her! how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!

³³ Howbeit I must go on my way today and tomorrow and the [day] following: for it cannot be that a prophet perish out of Jerusalem. ³⁴ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killeth the prophets, and stoneth them that are sent unto her! how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen [gathereth] her own brood under her wings, and ye would not!

⁵² Which of the prophets did not your fathers persecute? and they killed them which shewed before of the coming of the Righteous One; of whom ye have now become betrayers and murderers;

¹⁵ who both killed the Lord Jesus and the prophets, and drave out us, and please not God, and are contrary to all men; ¹⁶ forbidding us to speak to the Gentiles that they may be saved; to fill up their sins alway: but the wrath is come upon them to the uttermost.

³⁶ and others had trial of mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment: ³⁷ they were stoned, they were sawn asunder, they were tempted, they were slain with the sword: they went about in sheepskins, in goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, evil entreated

⁹ And when he opened the fifth seal, I saw underneath the altar the souls of them that had been slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held:

⁴ Again he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them that are bidden, Behold, I have made ready my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come to the marriage feast.

³ It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do unto them; that they may return every man from his evil way; that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin.

⁷ I said, Surely thou wilt fear me, thou wilt receive correction; so her dwelling should not be cut off, [according to] all that I have appointed concerning her: but they rose early and corrupted all their doings.

¹⁷ and lo, a voice out of the heavens, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

⁶ He had yet one, a beloved son: he sent him last unto them, saying, They will reverence my son.

¹³ And the lord of the vineyard said, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son: it may be they will reverence him.

¹⁸ No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared [him].

³⁴ And I have seen, and have borne witness that this is the Son of God.

¹⁶ For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on him should not perish, but have eternal life.

¹ God, having of old time spoken unto the fathers in the prophets by divers portions and in divers manners, ² hath at the end of these days spoken unto us in [his] Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, through whom also he made the worlds;

¹⁸ And they saw him afar off, and before he came near unto them, they conspired against him to slay him. ¹⁹ And they said one to another, Behold, this dreamer cometh. ²⁰ Come now therefore, and let us slay him, and cast him into one of the pits, and we will say, An evil beast hath devoured him: and we shall see what will become of his dreams.

² The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, [saying], ³ Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. ⁴ He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision. ⁵ Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure: ⁶ Yet I have set my king upon my holy hill of Zion. ⁷ I will tell of the decree: the LORD said unto me, Thou art my son; this day have I begotten thee. ⁸ Ask of me, and I will give thee the nations for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.

¹³ Now when they were departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I tell thee: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him. ¹⁴ And he arose and took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt; ¹⁵ and was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt did I call my son. ¹⁶ Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the male children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the borders thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had carefully learned of the wise men.

³ Then were gathered together the chief priests, and the elders of the people, unto the court of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas; ⁴ and they took counsel together that they might take Jesus by subtilty, and kill him.

¹ Now when morning was come, all the chief priests and the elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death: ² and they bound him, and led him away, and delivered him up to Pilate the governor.

⁷ But those husbandmen said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and the inheritance shall be ours. ⁸ And they took him, and killed him, and cast him forth out of the vineyard.

¹⁴ But when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned one with another, saying, This is the heir: let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.

⁴⁷ The chief priests therefore and the Pharisees gathered a council, and said, What do we? for this man doeth many signs. ⁴⁸ If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him: and the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation. ⁴⁹ But a certain one of them, Caiaphas, being high priest that year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all, ⁵⁰ nor do ye take account that it is expedient for you that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not. ⁵¹ Now this he said not of himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for the nation; ⁵² and not for the nation only, but that he might also gather together into one the children of God that are scattered abroad. ⁵³ So from that day forth they took counsel that they might put him to death.

²⁷ for of a truth in this city against thy holy Servant Jesus, whom thou didst anoint, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, were gathered together, ²⁸ to do whatsoever thy hand and thy counsel foreordained to come to pass.

²⁴ Now when the captain of the temple and the chief priests heard these words, they were much perplexed concerning them whereunto this would grow. ²⁵ And there came one and told them, Behold, the men whom ye put in the prison are in the temple standing and teaching the people. ²⁶ Then went the captain with the officers, and brought them, [but] without violence; for they feared the people, lest they should be stoned. ²⁷ And when they had brought them, they set them before the council. And the high priest asked them, ²⁸ saying, We straitly charged you not to teach in this name: and behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and intend to bring this man’s blood upon us.

² hath at the end of these days spoken unto us in [his] Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, through whom also he made the worlds;

⁵⁰ And Jesus said unto him, Friend, [do] that for which thou art come. Then they came and laid hands on Jesus, and took him.

⁵⁷ And they that had taken Jesus led him away to [the house of] Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were gathered together.

⁴⁶ And they laid hands on him, and took him. ⁴⁷ But a certain one of them that stood by drew his sword, and smote the servant of the high priest, and struck off his ear. ⁴⁸ And Jesus answered and said unto them, Are ye come out, as against a robber, with swords and staves to seize me? ⁴⁹ I was daily with you in the temple teaching, and ye took me not: but [this is done] that the scriptures might be fulfilled. ⁵⁰ And they all left him, and fled. ⁵¹ And a certain young man followed with him, having a linen cloth cast about him, over [his] naked [body]: and they lay hold on him; ⁵² but he left the linen cloth, and fled naked. ⁵³ And they led Jesus away to the high priest: and there come together with him all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes.

⁵² And Jesus said unto the chief priests, and captains of the temple, and elders, which were come against him, Are ye come out, as against a robber, with swords and staves? ⁵³ When I was daily with you in the temple, ye stretched not forth your hands against me: but this is your hour, and the power of darkness. ⁵⁴ And they seized him, and led him [away], and brought him into the high priest’s house. But Peter followed afar off.

¹² So the band and the chief captain, and the officers of the Jews, seized Jesus and bound him,

²⁴ Annas therefore sent him bound unto Caiaphas the high priest.

²³ him, being delivered up by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye by the hand of lawless men did crucify and slay:

¹⁴ But ye denied the Holy and Righteous One, and asked for a murderer to be granted unto you, ¹⁵ and killed the Prince of life; whom God raised from the dead; whereof we are witnesses.

¹⁰ be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, [even] in him doth this man stand here before you whole.

²⁵ who by the Holy Ghost, [by] the mouth of our father David thy servant, didst say, Why did the Gentiles rage, And the peoples imagine vain things? ²⁶ The kings of the earth set themselves in array, And the rulers were gathered together, Against the Lord, and against his Anointed: ²⁷ for of a truth in this city against thy holy Servant Jesus, whom thou didst anoint, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, were gathered together,

³⁰ The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew, hanging him on a tree.

¹¹ For the bodies of those beasts, whose blood is brought into the holy place by the high priest [as an offering] for sin, are burned without the camp. ¹² Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people through his own blood, suffered without the gate. ¹³ Let us therefore go forth unto him without the camp, bearing his reproach.

⁶ Ye have condemned, ye have killed the righteous [one]; he doth not resist you.

⁹ What therefore will the lord of the vineyard do? he will come and destroy the husbandmen, and will give the vineyard unto others.

¹⁵ And they cast him forth out of the vineyard, and killed him. What therefore will the lord of the vineyard do unto them? ¹⁶ He will come and destroy these husbandmen, and will give the vineyard unto others. And when they heard it, they said, God forbid.

²⁹ of how much sorer punishment, think ye, shall he be judged worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?

¹⁴ But if ye will not hearken unto me, and will not do all these commandments; ¹⁵ and if ye shall reject my statutes, and if your soul abhor my judgments, so that ye will not do all my commandments, but break my covenant; ¹⁶ I also will do this unto you; I will appoint terror over you, even consumption and fever, that shall consume the eyes, and make the soul to pine away: and ye shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it. ¹⁷ And I will set my face against you, and ye shall be smitten before your enemies: they that hate you shall rule over you; and ye shall flee when none pursueth you. ¹⁸ And if ye will not yet for these things hearken unto me, then I will chastise you seven times more for your sins. ¹⁹ And I will break the pride of your power; and I will make your heaven as iron, and your earth as brass: ²⁰ and your strength shall be spent in vain: for your land shall not yield her increase, neither shall the trees of the land yield their fruit. ²¹ And if ye walk contrary unto me, and will not hearken unto me; I will bring seven times more plagues upon you according to your sins. ²² And I will send the beast of the field among you, which shall rob you of your children, and destroy your cattle, and make you few in number; and your ways shall become desolate. ²³ And if by these things ye will not be reformed unto me, but will walk contrary unto me; ²⁴ then will I also walk contrary unto you; and I will smite you, even I, seven times for your sins. ²⁵ And I will bring a sword upon you, that shall execute the vengeance of the covenant; and ye shall be gathered together within your cities: and I will send the pestilence among you; and ye shall be delivered into the hand of the enemy. ²⁶ When I break your staff of bread, ten women shall bake your bread in one oven, and they shall deliver your bread again by weight: and ye shall eat, and not be satisfied. ²⁷ And if ye will not for all this hearken unto me, but walk contrary unto me; ²⁸ then I will walk contrary unto you in fury; and I also will chastise you seven times for your sins. ²⁹ And ye shall eat the flesh of your sons, and the flesh of your daughters shall ye eat. ³⁰ And I will destroy your high places, and cut down your sun-images, and cast your carcases upon the carcases of your idols; and my soul shall abhor you. ³¹ And I will make your cities a waste, and will bring your sanctuaries unto desolation, and I will not smell the savour of your sweet odours. ³² And I will bring the land into desolation: and your enemies which dwell therein shall be astonished at it. ³³ And you will I scatter among the nations, and I will draw out the sword after you: and your land shall be a desolation, and your cities shall be a waste. ³⁴ Then shall the land enjoy her sabbaths, as long as it lieth desolate, and ye be in your enemies’ land; even then shall the land rest, and enjoy her sabbaths. ³⁵ As long as it lieth desolate it shall have rest; even the rest which it had not in your sabbaths, when ye dwelt upon it. ³⁶ And as for them that are left of you, I will send a faintness into their heart in the lands of their enemies: and the sound of a driven leaf shall chase them; and they shall flee, as one fleeth from the sword; and they shall fall when none pursueth. ³⁷ And they shall stumble one upon another, as it were before the sword, when none pursueth: and ye shall have no power to stand before your enemies. ³⁸ And ye shall perish among the nations, and the land of your enemies shall eat you up. ³⁹ And they that are left of you shall pine away in their iniquity in your enemies’ lands; and also in the iniquities of their fathers shall they pine away with them. ⁴⁰ And they shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, in their trespass which they trespassed against me, and also that because they have walked contrary unto me, ⁴¹ I also walked contrary unto them, and brought them into the land of their enemies: if then their uncircumcised heart be humbled, and they then accept of the punishment of their iniquity; ⁴² then will I remember my covenant with Jacob; and also my covenant with Isaac, and also my covenant with Abraham will I remember; and I will remember the land. ⁴³ The land also shall be left of them, and shall enjoy her sabbaths, while she lieth desolate without them; and they shall accept of the punishment of their iniquity: because, even because they rejected my judgments, and their soul abhorred my statutes. ⁴⁴ And yet for all that, when they be in the land of their enemies, I will not reject them, neither will I abhor them, to destroy them utterly, and to break my covenant with them: for I am the LORD their God: ⁴⁵ but I will for their sakes remember the covenant of their ancestors, whom I brought forth out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the nations, that I might be their God: I am the LORD. ⁴⁶ These are the statutes and judgments and laws, which the LORD made between him and the children of Israel in mount Sinai by the hand of Moses.

⁵⁹ then the LORD will make thy plagues wonderful, and the plagues of thy seed, even great plagues, and of long continuance, and sore sicknesses, and of long continuance. ⁶⁰ And he will bring upon thee again all the diseases of Egypt, which thou wast afraid of; and they shall cleave unto thee. ⁶¹ Also every sickness, and every plague, which is not written in the book of this law, them will the LORD bring upon thee, until thou be destroyed. ⁶² And ye shall be left few in number, whereas ye were as the stars of heaven for multitude; because thou didst not hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God. ⁶³ And it shall come to pass, that as the LORD rejoiced over you to do you good, and to multiply you; so the LORD will rejoice over you to cause you to perish, and to destroy you; and ye shall be plucked from off the land whither thou goest in to possess it. ⁶⁴ And the LORD shall scatter thee among all peoples, from the one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth; and there thou shalt serve other gods, which thou hast not known, thou nor thy fathers, even wood and stone. ⁶⁵ And among these nations shalt thou find no ease, and there shall be no rest for the sole of thy foot: but the LORD shall give thee there a trembling heart, and failing of eyes, and pining of soul: ⁶⁶ and thy life shall hang in doubt before thee; and thou shalt fear night and day, and shalt have none assurance of thy life: ⁶⁷ in the morning thou shalt say, Would God it were even! and at even thou shalt say, Would God it were morning! for the fear of thine heart which thou shalt fear, and for the sight of thine eyes which thou shalt see. ⁶⁸ And the LORD shall bring thee into Egypt again with ships, by the way whereof I said unto thee, Thou shalt see it no more again: and there ye shall sell yourselves unto your enemies for bondmen and for bondwomen, and no man shall buy you.

⁴ He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision. ⁵ Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure:

⁹ Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.

⁵ And now go to; I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard: I will take away the hedge thereof, and it shall be eaten up; I will break down the fence thereof, and it shall be trodden down: ⁶ and I will lay it waste; it shall not be pruned nor hoed; but there shall come up briers and thorns: I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain upon it. ⁷ For the vineyard of the LORD of hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah his pleasant plant: and he looked for judgment, but behold oppression; for righteousness, but behold a cry.

⁵ And now saith the LORD that formed me from the womb to be his servant, to bring Jacob again to him, and that Israel be gathered unto him: (for I am honourable in the eyes of the LORD, and my God is become my strength:) ⁶ yea, he saith, It is too light a thing that thou shouldest be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel: I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be my salvation unto the end of the earth. ⁷ Thus saith the LORD, the redeemer of Israel, [and] his Holy One, to him whom man despiseth, to him whom the nation abhorreth, to a servant of rulers: Kings shall see and arise; princes, and they shall worship; because of the LORD that is faithful, [even] the Holy One of Israel, who hath chosen thee.

¹⁵ And ye shall leave your name for a curse unto my chosen, and the Lord GOD shall slay thee; and he shall call his servants by another name:

¹⁹ And I will set a sign among them, and I will send such as escape of them unto the nations, to Tarshish, Pul and Lud, that draw the bow, to Tubal and Javan, to the isles afar off, that have not heard my fame, neither have seen my glory; and they shall declare my glory among the nations. ²⁰ And they shall bring all your brethren out of all the nations for an offering unto the LORD, upon horses, and in chariots, and in litters, and upon mules, and upon swift beasts, to my holy mountain Jerusalem, saith the LORD, as the children of Israel bring their offering in a clean vessel into the house of the LORD. ²¹ And of them also will I take for priests [and] for Levites, saith the LORD.

²⁶ And after the threescore and two weeks shall the anointed one be cut off, and shall have nothing: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and his end shall be with a flood, and even unto the end shall be war; desolations are determined.

⁸ And I cut off the three shepherds in one month; for my soul was weary of them, and their soul also loathed me. ⁹ Then said I, I will not feed you: that that dieth, let it die; and that that is to be cut off, let it be cut off; and let them which are left eat every one the flesh of another. ¹⁰ And I took my staff Beauty, and cut it asunder, that I might break my covenant which I had made with all the peoples.

¹² And the land shall mourn, every family apart; the family of the house of David apart, and their wives apart; the family of the house of Nathan apart, and their wives apart;

⁸ And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the LORD, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein.

² For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished: and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city. ³ Then shall the LORD go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle.

¹ For, behold, the day cometh, it burneth as a furnace; and all the proud, and all that work wickedness, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch. ² But unto you that fear my name shall the sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and gambol as calves of the stall. ³ And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I do make, saith the LORD of hosts. ⁴ Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, even statutes and judgments. ⁵ Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the great and terrible day of the LORD come. ⁶ And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers; lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.

¹² whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly cleanse his threshing-floor; and he will gather his wheat into the garner, but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire.

¹¹ And I say unto you, that many shall come from the east and the west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven: ¹² but the sons of the kingdom shall be cast forth into the outer darkness: there shall be the weeping and gnashing of teeth.

⁴³ Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken away from you, and shall be given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof.

⁶ and the rest laid hold on his servants, and entreated them shamefully, and killed them. ⁷ But the king was wroth; and he sent his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned their city.

³⁵ that upon you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of Abel the righteous unto the blood of Zachariah son of Barachiah, whom ye slew between the sanctuary and the altar. ³⁶ Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation. ³⁷ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killeth the prophets, and stoneth them that are sent unto her! how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not! ³⁸ Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.

²¹ for then shall be great tribulation, such as hath not been from the beginning of the world until now, no, nor ever shall be. ²² And except those days had been shortened, no flesh would have been saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.

²⁸ There shall be the weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and yourselves cast forth without. ²⁹ And they shall come from the east and west, and from the north and south, and shall sit down in the kingdom of God.

²³ And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and constrain [them] to come in, that my house may be filled. ²⁴ For I say unto you, that none of those men which were bidden shall taste of my supper.

³² Remember Lot’s wife. ³³ Whosoever shall seek to gain his life shall lose it: but whosoever shall lose [his life] shall preserve it. ³⁴ I say unto you, In that night there shall be two men on one bed; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left. ³⁵ There shall be two women grinding together; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left. ^{36 37} And they answering say unto him, Where, Lord? And he said unto them, Where the body [is], thither will the eagles also be gathered together.

⁴¹ And when he drew nigh, he saw the city and wept over it,

²² For these are days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled. ²³ Woe unto them that are with child and to them that give suck in those days! for there shall be great distress upon the land, and wrath unto this people. ²⁴ And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led captive into all the nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.

⁴⁶ And Paul and Barnabas spake out boldly, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first be spoken to you. Seeing ye thrust it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles. ⁴⁷ For so hath the Lord commanded us, [saying], I have set thee for a light of the Gentiles, That thou shouldest be for salvation unto the uttermost part of the earth. ⁴⁸ And as the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of God: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed.

⁷ And when there had been much questioning, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among you, that by my mouth the Gentiles should hear the word of the gospel, and believe.

⁶ And when they opposed themselves, and blasphemed, he shook out his raiment, and said unto them, Your blood [be] upon your own heads; I am clean: from henceforth I will go unto the Gentiles.

⁸ And it was so, that the father of Publius lay sick of fever and dysentery: unto whom Paul entered in, and prayed, and laying his hands on him healed him.

²⁸ Be it known therefore unto you, that this salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles: they will also hear.

¹ I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience bearing witness with me in the Holy Ghost, ² that I have great sorrow and unceasing pain in my heart. ³ For I could wish that I myself were anathema from Christ for my brethren’s sake, my kinsmen according to the flesh: ⁴ who are Israelites; whose is the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service [of God], and the promises; ⁵ whose are the fathers, and of whom is Christ as concerning the flesh, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen. ⁶ But [it is] not as though the word of God hath come to nought. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel: ⁷ neither, because they are Abraham’s seed, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called. ⁸ That is, it is not the children of the flesh that are children of God; but the children of the promise are reckoned for a seed. ⁹ For this is a word of promise, According to this season will I come, and Sarah shall have a son. ¹⁰ And not only so; but Rebecca also having conceived by one, [even] by our father Isaac— ¹¹ for [the children] being not yet born, neither having done anything good or bad, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth,

⁹ and that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy; as it is written, Therefore will I give praise unto thee among the Gentiles, And sing unto thy name. ¹⁰ And again he saith, Rejoice, ye Gentiles, with his people. ¹¹ And again, Praise the Lord, all ye Gentiles; And let all the peoples praise him. ¹² And again, Isaiah saith, There shall be the root of Jesse, And he that ariseth to rule over the Gentiles; On him shall the Gentiles hope. ¹³ Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, in the power of the Holy Ghost. ¹⁴ And I myself also am persuaded of you, my brethren, that ye yourselves are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish one another. ¹⁵ But I write the more boldly unto you in some measure, as putting you again in remembrance, because of the grace that was given me of God, ¹⁶ that I should be a minister of Christ Jesus unto the Gentiles, ministering the gospel of God, that the offering up of the Gentiles might be made acceptable, being sanctified by the Holy Ghost. ¹⁷ I have therefore my glorying in Christ Jesus in things pertaining to God. ¹⁸ For I will not dare to speak of any things save those which Christ wrought through me, for the obedience of the Gentiles, by word and deed,

¹⁶ forbidding us to speak to the Gentiles that they may be saved; to fill up their sins alway: but the wrath is come upon them to the uttermost.

³ how shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation? which having at the first been spoken through the Lord, was confirmed unto us by them that heard;

²⁵ See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not, when they refused him that warned [them] on earth, much more [shall not] we [escape], who turn away from him that [warneth] from heaven:

²² The stone which the builders rejected is become the head of the corner. ²³ This is the LORD’S doing; it is marvelous in our eyes.

¹⁶ therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner [stone] of sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.

⁵ Behold ye among the nations, and regard, and wonder marvelously: for I work a work in your days, which ye will not believe though it be told you.

⁸ Hear now, O Joshua the high priest, thou and thy fellows that sit before thee; for they are men which are a sign: for, behold, I will bring forth my servant the Branch. ⁹ For behold, the stone that I have set before Joshua; upon one stone are seven eyes: behold, I will engrave the graving thereof, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day.

¹⁰ Have ye not read even this scripture; The stone which the builders rejected, The same was made the head of the corner: ¹¹ This was from the Lord, And it is marvelous in our eyes?

¹⁷ But he looked upon them, and said, What then is this that is written, The stone which the builders rejected, The same was made the head of the corner? ¹⁸ Every one that falleth on that stone shall be broken to pieces; but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will scatter him as dust.

¹¹ He is the stone which was set at nought of you the builders, which was made the head of the corner.

⁴⁰ Beware therefore, lest that come upon [you], which is spoken in the prophets; ⁴¹ Behold, ye despisers, and wonder, and perish; For I work a work in your days, A work which ye shall in no wise believe, if one declare it unto you.

³³ even as it is written, Behold, I lay in Zion a stone of stumbling and a rock of offence: And he that believeth on him shall not be put to shame.

²⁰ being built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the chief corner stone;

³ how that by revelation was made known unto me the mystery, as I wrote afore in few words, ⁴ whereby, when ye read, ye can perceive my understanding in the mystery of Christ; ⁵ which in other generations was not made known unto the sons of men, as it hath now been revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets in the Spirit; ⁶ [to wit], that the Gentiles are fellow-heirs, and fellow-members of the body, and fellow-partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel, ⁷ whereof I was made a minister, according to the gift of that grace of God which was given me according to the working of his power. ⁸ Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, was this grace given, to preach unto the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ; ⁹ and to make all men see what is the dispensation of the mystery which from all ages hath been hid in God who created all things;

⁴ unto whom coming, a living stone, rejected indeed of men, but with God elect, precious, ⁵ ye also, as living stones, are built up a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. ⁶ Because it is contained in scripture, Behold, I lay in Zion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: And he that believeth on him shall not be put to shame. ⁷ For you therefore which believe is the preciousness: but for such as disbelieve, The stone which the builders rejected, The same was made the head of the corner; ⁸ and, A stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence; for they stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.

⁶ and ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.

² Open ye the gates, that the righteous nation which keepeth truth may enter in.

² Behold, the Lord hath a mighty and strong one; as a tempest of hail, a destroying storm, as a tempest of mighty waters overflowing, shall he cast down to the earth with the hand.

²⁸ But if I by the Spirit of God cast out devils, then is the kingdom of God come upon you.

⁴¹ They say unto him, He will miserably destroy those miserable men, and will let out the vineyard unto other husbandmen, which shall render him the fruits in their seasons.

²⁰ And being asked by the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God cometh, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: ²¹ neither shall they say, Lo, here! or, There! for lo, the kingdom of God is within you.

³ Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born anew, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

⁵ Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

⁹ But ye are an elect race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for [God’s] own possession, that ye may shew forth the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light:

¹² Kiss the son, lest he be angry, and ye perish in the way, for his wrath will soon be kindled. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.

⁸ Thine hand shall find out all thine enemies: thy right hand shall find out those that hate thee. ⁹ Thou shalt make them as a fiery furnace in the time of thine anger. The LORD shall swallow them up in his wrath, and the fire shall devour them.

⁵ The Lord at thy right hand shall strike through kings in the day of his wrath. ⁶ He shall judge among the nations, he shall fill [the places] with dead bodies; he shall strike through the head in many countries.

¹⁴ And he shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offence to both the houses of Israel, for a gin and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem. ¹⁵ And many shall stumble thereon, and fall, and be broken, and be snared, and be taken.

¹² For that nation and kingdom that will not serve thee shall perish; yea, those nations shall be utterly wasted.

³⁴ Thou sawest till that a stone was cut out without hands, which smote the image upon his feet that were of iron and clay, and brake them in pieces. ³⁵ Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, broken in pieces together, and became like the chaff of the summer threshing-floors; and the wind carried them away, that no place was found for them: and the stone that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth.

³ And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all the peoples; all that burden themselves with it shall be sore wounded; and all the nations of the earth shall be gathered together against it.

²⁴ The Son of man goeth, even as it is written of him: but woe unto that man through whom the Son of man is betrayed! good were it for that man if he had not been born.

²⁵ And all the people answered and said, His blood [be] on us, and on our children.

¹⁸ Every one that falleth on that stone shall be broken to pieces; but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will scatter him as dust.

¹¹ Jesus answered him, Thou wouldest have no power against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath greater sin.

³ But and if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled in them that are perishing: ⁴ in whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of the unbelieving, that the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should not dawn [upon them].

² For if the word spoken through angels proved stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompense of reward; ³ how shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation? which having at the first been spoken through the Lord, was confirmed unto us by them that heard;

⁸ and, A stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence; for they stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.

¹² How much then is a man of more value than a sheep! Wherefore it is lawful to do good on the sabbath day.

⁴⁵ And one of the lawyers answering saith unto him, Master, in saying this thou reproachest us also.

⁷ And Nathan said to David, Thou art the man. Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel, I anointed thee king over Israel, and I delivered thee out of the hand of Saul; ⁸ and I gave thee thy master’s house, and thy master’s wives into thy bosom, and gave thee the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that had been too little, I would have added unto thee such and such things. ⁹ Wherefore hast thou despised the word of the LORD, to do that which is evil in his sight? thou hast smitten Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and hast taken his wife to be thy wife, and hast slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon. ¹⁰ Now therefore, the sword shall never depart from thine house; because thou hast despised me, and hast taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thy wife. ¹¹ Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will raise up evil against thee out of thine own house, and I will take thy wives before thine eyes, and give them unto thy neighbour, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun. ¹² For thou didst it secretly: but I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun. ¹³ And David said unto Nathan, I have sinned against the LORD. And Nathan said unto David, The LORD also hath put away thy sin; thou shalt not die.

⁷ He that correcteth a scorner getteth to himself shame: and he that reproveth a wicked man [getteth] himself a blot. ⁸ Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: reprove a wise man, and he will love thee. ⁹ Give [instruction] to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a righteous man, and he will increase in learning.

¹² A scorner loveth not to be reproved: he will not go unto the wise.

¹ Ho Ariel, Ariel, the city where David encamped! add ye year to year; let the feasts come round:

¹¹ And the multitudes said, This is the prophet, Jesus, from Nazareth of Galilee.

²⁶ But if we shall say, From men; we fear the multitude; for all hold John as a prophet.

⁷ The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that its works are evil.

⁴⁰ [Some] of the multitude therefore, when they heard these words, said, This is of a truth the prophet. ⁴¹ Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, What, doth the Christ come out of Galilee?

²² Ye men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God unto you by mighty works and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, even as ye yourselves know;
