¹ The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. ² Even as it is written in Isaiah the prophet, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, Who shall prepare thy way; ³ The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make ye ready the way of the Lord, Make his paths straight; ⁴ John came, who baptized in the wilderness and preached the baptism of repentance unto remission of sins. ⁵ And there went out unto him all the country of Judaea, and all they of Jerusalem; and they were baptized of him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins. ⁶ And John was clothed with camel’s hair, and [had] a leathern girdle about his loins, and did eat locusts and wild honey. ⁷ And he preached, saying, There cometh after me he that is mightier than I, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to stoop down and unloose. ⁸ I baptized you with water; but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost. ⁹ And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John in the Jordan. ¹⁰ And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens rent asunder, and the Spirit as a dove descending upon him: ¹¹ And a voice came out of the heavens, Thou art my beloved Son, in thee I am well pleased. ¹² And straightway the Spirit driveth him forth into the wilderness. ¹³ And he was in the wilderness forty days tempted of Satan; and he was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered unto him. ¹⁴ Now after that John was delivered up, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of God, ¹⁵ and saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe in the gospel. ¹⁶ And passing along by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew the brother of Simon casting a net in the sea: for they were fishers. ¹⁷ And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men. ¹⁸ And straightway they left the nets, and followed him. ¹⁹ And going on a little further, he saw James the [son] of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the boat mending the nets. ²⁰ And straightway he called them: and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants, and went after him. ²¹ And they go into Capernaum; and straightway on the sabbath day he entered into the synagogue and taught. ²² And they were astonished at his teaching: for he taught them as having authority, and not as the scribes. ²³ And straightway there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out, ²⁴ saying, What have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God. ²⁵ And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. ²⁶ And the unclean spirit, tearing him and crying with a loud voice, came out of him. ²⁷ And they were all amazed, insomuch that they questioned among themselves, saying, What is this? a new teaching! with authority he commandeth even the unclean spirits, and they obey him. ²⁸ And the report of him went out straightway everywhere into all the region of Galilee round about. ²⁹ And straightway, when they were come out of the synagogue, they came into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. ³⁰ Now Simon’s wife’s mother lay sick of a fever; and straightway they tell him of her: ³¹ and he came and took her by the hand, and raised her up; and the fever left her, and she ministered unto them. ³² And at even, when the sun did set, they brought unto him all that were sick, and them that were possessed with devils. ³³ And all the city was gathered together at the door. ³⁴ And he healed many that were sick with divers diseases, and cast out many devils; and he suffered not the devils to speak, because they knew him. ³⁵ And in the morning, a great while before day, he rose up and went out, and departed into a desert place, and there prayed. ³⁶ And Simon and they that were with him followed after him; ³⁷ and they found him, and say unto him, All are seeking thee. ³⁸ And he saith unto them, Let us go elsewhere into the next towns, that I may preach there also; for to this end came I forth. ³⁹ And he went into their synagogues throughout all Galilee, preaching and casting out devils. ⁴⁰ And there cometh to him a leper, beseeching him, and kneeling down to him, and saying unto him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. ⁴¹ And being moved with compassion, he stretched forth his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou made clean. ⁴² And straightway the leprosy departed from him, and he was made clean. ⁴³ And he strictly charged him, and straightway sent him out, ⁴⁴ and saith unto him, See thou say nothing to any man: but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing the things which Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them. ⁴⁵ But he went out, and began to publish it much, and to spread abroad the matter, insomuch that Jesus could no more openly enter into a city, but was without in desert places: and they came to him from every quarter.

⁷ I will tell of the decree: the LORD said unto me, Thou art my son; this day have I begotten thee.

¹⁷ and lo, a voice out of the heavens, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

³ And the tempter came and said unto him, If thou art the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.

³³ And they that were in the boat worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.

⁵ While he was yet speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold, a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.

² even as they delivered them unto us, which from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word, ³ it seemed good to me also, having traced the course of all things accurately from the first, to write unto thee in order, most excellent Theophilus;

³⁵ And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Most High shall overshadow thee: wherefore also that which is to be born shall be called holy, the Son of God.

¹⁰ And the angel said unto them, Be not afraid; for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which shall be to all the people: ¹¹ for there is born to you this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

¹⁴ And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us (and we beheld his glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father), full of grace and truth.

³⁴ And I have seen, and have borne witness that this is the Son of God.

⁴⁹ Nathanael answered him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art King of Israel.

¹⁶ For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on him should not perish, but have eternal life.

⁶⁹ And we have believed and know that thou art the Holy One of God.

³¹ but these are written, that ye may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye may have life in his name.

¹ The former treatise I made, O Theophilus, concerning all that Jesus began both to do and to teach, ² until the day in which he was received up, after that he had given commandment through the Holy Ghost unto the apostles whom he had chosen:

¹ Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called [to be] an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God, ² which he promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures, ³ concerning his Son, who was born of the seed of David according to the flesh, ⁴ who was declared [to be] the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection of the dead; [even] Jesus Christ our Lord,

³ For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God, sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and [as an offering] for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:

³² He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not also with him freely give us all things?

¹ God, having of old time spoken unto the fathers in the prophets by divers portions and in divers manners, ² hath at the end of these days spoken unto us in [his] Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, through whom also he made the worlds;

¹ That which was from the beginning, that which we have heard, that which we have seen with our eyes, that which we beheld, and our hands handled, concerning the Word of life ² (and the life was manifested, and we have seen, and bear witness, and declare unto you the life, the eternal [life], which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us); ³ that which we have seen and heard declare we unto you also, that ye also may have fellowship with us: yea, and our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ:

¹¹ And the witness is this, that God gave unto us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. ¹² He that hath the Son hath the life; he that hath not the Son of God hath not the life.

⁷ Then said I, Lo, I am come; in the roll of the book it is written of me:

¹ Behold, I send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple; and the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in, behold, he cometh, saith the LORD of hosts.

⁵ And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet,

¹ And in those days cometh John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, ² saying, Repent ye; for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. ³ For this is he that was spoken of by Isaiah the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make ye ready the way of the Lord, Make his paths straight. ⁴ Now John himself had his raiment of camel’s hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his food was locusts and wild honey. ⁵ Then went out unto him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan; ⁶ and they were baptized of him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins. ⁷ But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said unto them, Ye offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? ⁸ Bring forth therefore fruit worthy of repentance: ⁹ and think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham. ¹⁰ And even now is the axe laid unto the root of the trees: every tree therefore that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. ¹¹ I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and [with] fire:

¹⁰ This is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, Who shall prepare thy way before thee.

²⁴ The Son of man goeth, even as it is written of him: but woe unto that man through whom the Son of man is betrayed! good were it for that man if he had not been born.

³¹ Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended in me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad.

¹⁵ For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and he shall drink no wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother’s womb. ¹⁶ And many of the children of Israel shall he turn unto the Lord their God. ¹⁷ And he shall go before his face in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient [to walk] in the wisdom of the just; to make ready for the Lord a people prepared [for him].

⁷⁰ (As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets which have been since the world began),

⁷⁶ Yea and thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Most High: For thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to make ready his ways;

And he said unto them, Do violence to no man, neither exact [anything] wrongfully; and be content with your wages. ¹⁵ And as the people were in expectation, and all men reasoned in their hearts concerning John, whether haply he were the Christ; ¹⁶ John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but there cometh he that is mightier than I, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and [with] fire:

²⁷ This is he of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, Who shall prepare thy way before thee. ²⁸ I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there is none greater than John: yet he that is but little in the kingdom of God is greater than he.

³¹ And he took unto him the twelve, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all the things that are written by the prophets shall be accomplished unto the Son of man.

³ The voice of one that crieth, Prepare ye in the wilderness the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God. ⁴ Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain: ⁵ and the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.

¹⁵ John beareth witness of him, and crieth, saying, This was he of whom I said, He that cometh after me is become before me: for he was before me.

¹⁹ And this is the witness of John, when the Jews sent unto him from Jerusalem priests and Levites to ask him, Who art thou? ²⁰ And he confessed, and denied not; and he confessed, I am not the Christ. ²¹ And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elijah? And he saith, I am not. Art thou the prophet? And he answered, No. ²² They said therefore unto him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself? ²³ He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said Isaiah the prophet. ²⁴ And they had been sent from the Pharisees. ²⁵ And they asked him, and said unto him, Why then baptizest thou, if thou art not the Christ, neither Elijah, neither the prophet? ²⁶ John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: in the midst of you standeth one whom ye know not, ²⁷ [even] he that cometh after me, the latchet of whose shoe I am not worthy to unloose. ²⁸ These things were done in Bethany beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing. ²⁹ On the morrow he seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold, the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world! ³⁰ This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is become before me: for he was before me. ³¹ And I knew him not; but that he should be made manifest to Israel, for this cause came I baptizing with water. ³² And John bare witness, saying, I have beheld the Spirit descending as a dove out of heaven; and it abode upon him. ³³ And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, he said unto me, Upon whomsoever thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and abiding upon him, the same is he that baptizeth with the Holy Spirit. ³⁴ And I have seen, and have borne witness that this is the Son of God.

²⁸ Ye yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but, that I am sent before him. ²⁹ He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled. ³⁰ He must increase, but I must decrease. ³¹ He that cometh from above is above all: he that is of the earth is of the earth, and of the earth he speaketh: he that cometh from heaven is above all. ³² What he hath seen and heard, of that he beareth witness; and no man receiveth his witness. ³³ He that hath received his witness hath set his seal to [this], that God is true. ³⁴ For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for he giveth not the Spirit by measure. ³⁵ The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand. ³⁶ He that believeth on the Son hath eternal life; but he that obeyeth not the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abideth on him.

¹¹ I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and [with] fire:

⁷⁷ To give knowledge of salvation unto his people In the remission of their sins,

² in the high-priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came unto John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness. ³ And he came into all the region round about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance unto remission of sins;

²³ And John also was baptizing in AEnon near to Salim, because there was much water there: and they came, and were baptized.

³⁷ that saying ye yourselves know, which was published throughout all Judaea, beginning from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;

²⁴ when John had first preached before his coming the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel. ²⁵ And as John was fulfilling his course, he said, What suppose ye that I am? I am not [he]. But behold, there cometh one after me, the shoes of whose feet I am not worthy to unloose.

³ And he said, Into what then were ye baptized? And they said, Into John’s baptism. ⁴ And Paul said, John baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Jesus.

¹⁶ And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on his name.

⁴⁰ And they shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, in their trespass which they trespassed against me, and also that because they have walked contrary unto me, ⁴¹ I also walked contrary unto them, and brought them into the land of their enemies: if then their uncircumcised heart be humbled, and they then accept of the punishment of their iniquity; ⁴² then will I remember my covenant with Jacob; and also my covenant with Isaac, and also my covenant with Abraham will I remember; and I will remember the land.

¹⁹ And Joshua said unto Achan, My son, give, I pray thee, glory to the LORD, the God of Israel, and make confession unto him; and tell me now what thou hast done; hide it not from me.

⁵ I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid: I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah

¹³ He that covereth his transgressions shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall obtain mercy.

⁵ Then went out unto him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan; ⁶ and they were baptized of him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.

²⁵ And there followed him great multitudes from Galilee and Decapolis and Jerusalem and Judaea and [from] beyond Jordan.

²⁸ These things were done in Bethany beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing.

³⁸ And Peter [said] unto them, Repent ye, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ unto the remission of your sins; and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

¹⁸ Many also of them that had believed came, confessing, and declaring their deeds.

⁸ If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. ⁹ If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. ¹⁰ If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

²² even these of them ye may eat; the locust after its kind, and the bald locust after its kind, and the cricket after its kind, and the grasshopper after its kind.

⁸ And they answered him, He was an hairy man, and girt with a girdle of leather about his loins. And he said, It is Elijah the Tishbite.

⁴ And it shall come to pass in that day, that the prophets shall be ashamed every one of his vision, when he prophesieth; neither shall they wear a hairy mantle to deceive:

⁴ Now John himself had his raiment of camel’s hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his food was locusts and wild honey.

¹⁴ But John would have hindered him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?

¹⁶ John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but there cometh he that is mightier than I, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and [with] fire:

⁶ And Jesus went with them. And when he was now not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying unto him, Lord, trouble not thyself: for I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: ⁷ wherefore neither thought I myself worthy to come unto thee: but say the word, and my servant shall be healed.

²⁷ [even] he that cometh after me, the latchet of whose shoe I am not worthy to unloose.

²³ Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.

¹⁵ until the spirit be poured upon us from on high, and the wilderness become a fruitful field, and the fruitful field be counted for a forest.

³ For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and streams upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring:

²⁵ And I will sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. ²⁶ A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you art heart of flesh. ²⁷ And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.

²⁸ And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:

⁵ For John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

⁴ And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

¹⁷ And it shall be in the last days, saith God, I will pour forth of my Spirit upon all flesh: And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, And your young men shall see visions, And your old men shall dream dreams:

⁴⁵ And they of the circumcision which believed were amazed, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.

¹⁵ And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, even as on us at the beginning. ¹⁶ And I remembered the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.

⁴ And Paul said, John baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Jesus. ⁵ And when they heard this, they were baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus. ⁶ And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

¹³ For in one Spirit were we all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether bond or free; and were all made to drink of one Spirit.

⁵ not by works [done] in righteousness, which we did ourselves, but according to his mercy he saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Ghost, ⁶ which he poured out upon us richly, through Jesus Christ our Saviour;

²³ and came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, that he should be called a Nazarene.

¹³ Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to the Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him. ¹⁴ But John would have hindered him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me? ¹⁵ But Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer [it] now: for thus it becometh us to fulfill all righteousness. Then he suffereth him. ¹⁶ And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway from the water: and lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove, and coming upon him; ¹⁷ and lo, a voice out of the heavens, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

²¹ Now it came to pass, when all the people were baptized, that, Jesus also having been baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened, ²² and the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily form, as a dove, upon him, and a voice came out of heaven, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.

¹ Behold my servant, whom I uphold; my chosen, in whom my soul delighteth: I have put my spirit upon him; he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles.

¹ Oh that thou wouldest rend the heavens, that thou wouldest come down, that the mountains might flow down at thy presence;

¹⁶ And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway from the water: and lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove, and coming upon him;

²² and the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily form, as a dove, upon him, and a voice came out of heaven, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.

⁷ And there came a cloud overshadowing them: and there came a voice out of the cloud, This is my beloved Son: hear ye him.

³⁵ And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my Son, my chosen: hear ye him.

²⁰ For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and greater works than these will he shew him, that ye may marvel. ²¹ For as the Father raiseth the dead and quickeneth them, even so the Son also quickeneth whom he will. ²² For neither doth the Father judge any man, but he hath given all judgment unto the Son; ²³ that all may honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which sent him.

³⁷ And the Father which sent me, he hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his form.

²⁸ Father, glorify thy name. There came therefore a voice out of heaven, [saying], I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again. ²⁹ The multitude therefore, that stood by, and heard it, said that it had thundered: others said, An angel hath spoken to him. ³⁰ Jesus answered and said, This voice hath not come for my sake, but for your sakes.

⁴ who was declared [to be] the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection of the dead; [even] Jesus Christ our Lord,

¹³ who delivered us out of the power of darkness, and translated us into the kingdom of the Son of his love;

¹⁷ For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased: ¹⁸ and this voice we [ourselves] heard come out of heaven, when we were with him in the holy mount.

¹ Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. ² And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he afterward hungered. ³ And the tempter came and said unto him, If thou art the Son of God, command that these stones become bread. ⁴ But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. ⁵ Then the devil taketh him into the holy city; and he set him on the pinnacle of the temple, ⁶ and saith unto him, If thou art the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: And on their hands they shall bear thee up, Lest haply thou dash thy foot against a stone. ⁷ Jesus said unto him, Again it is written, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. ⁸ Again, the devil taketh him unto an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; ⁹ and he said unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. ¹⁰ Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. ¹¹ Then the devil leaveth him; and behold, angels came and ministered unto him.

¹ And Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan, and was led by the Spirit in the wilderness ² during forty days, being tempted of the devil. And he did eat nothing in those days: and when they were completed, he hungered. ³ And the devil said unto him, If thou art the Son of God, command this stone that it become bread. ⁴ And Jesus answered unto him, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone. ⁵ And he led him up, and shewed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. ⁶ And the devil said unto him, To thee will I give all this authority, and the glory of them: for it hath been delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it. ⁷ If thou therefore wilt worship before me, it shall all be thine. ⁸ And Jesus answered and said unto him, It is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. ⁹ And he led him to Jerusalem, and set him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou art the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence: ¹⁰ for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee, to guard thee: ¹¹ and, On their hands they shall bear thee up, Lest haply thou dash thy foot against a stone. ¹² And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. ¹³ And when the devil had completed every temptation, he departed from him for a season.

¹⁸ And Moses entered into the midst of the cloud, and went up into the mount: and Moses was in the mount forty days and forty nights.

²⁸ And he was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights; he did neither eat bread, nor drink water. And he wrote upon the tables the words of the covenant, the ten commandments.

¹¹ And it came to pass at the end of forty days and forty nights, that the LORD gave me the two tables of stone, even the tables of the covenant.

¹⁸ And I fell down before the LORD, as at the first, forty days and forty nights; I did neither eat bread nor drink water; because of all your sin which ye sinned, in doing that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.

²⁵ So I fell down before the LORD the forty days and forty nights that I fell down; because the LORD had said he would destroy you.

⁵ And he lay down and slept under a juniper tree; and, behold, an angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise and eat. ⁶ And he looked, and, behold, there was at his head a cake baken on the coals, and a cruse of water. And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again. ⁷ And the angel of the LORD came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee. ⁸ And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God.

⁵³ Or thinkest thou that I cannot beseech my Father, and he shall even now send me more than twelve legions of angels?

¹⁶ And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness; He who was manifested in the flesh, justified in the spirit, seen of angels, preached among the nations, believed on in the world, received up in glory.

¹⁷ Wherefore it behoved him in all things to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. ¹⁸ For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.

¹⁵ For we have not a high priest that cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but one that hath been in all points tempted like as [we are, yet] without sin.

¹ The spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening [of the prison] to them that are bound; ² to proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; ³ to appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them a garland for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.

¹² Now when he heard that John was delivered up, he withdrew into Galilee;

²³ And Jesus went about in all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of disease and all manner of sickness among the people.

³⁵ And Jesus went about all the cities and the villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of disease and all manner of sickness.

² Now when John heard in the prison the works of the Christ, he sent by his disciples,

² and said unto his servants, This is John the Baptist; he is risen from the dead; and therefore do these powers work in him.

²⁰ added yet this above all, that he shut up John in prison.

¹⁷ And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Isaiah. And he opened the book, and found the place where it was written, ¹⁸ The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, Because he anointed me to preach good tidings to the poor: He hath sent me to proclaim release to the captives, And recovering of sight to the blind, To set at liberty them that are bruised, ¹⁹ To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.

⁴³ But he said unto them, I must preach the good tidings of the kingdom of God to the other cities also: for therefore was I sent. ⁴⁴ And he was preaching in the synagogues of Galilee.

¹ And it came to pass soon afterwards, that he went about through cities and villages, preaching and bringing the good tidings of the kingdom of God, and with him the twelve,

²² After these things came Jesus and his disciples into the land of Judaea; and there he tarried with them, and baptized. ²³ And John also was baptizing in AEnon near to Salim, because there was much water there: and they came, and were baptized. ²⁴ For John was not yet cast into prison.

²⁵ And now, behold, I know that ye all, among whom I went about preaching the kingdom, shall see my face no more.

²³ And when they had appointed him a day, they came to him into his lodging in great number; to whom he expounded [the matter], testifying the kingdom of God, and persuading them concerning Jesus, both from the law of Moses and from the prophets, from morning till evening.

¹⁷ and he came and preached peace to you that were far off, and peace to them that were nigh:

⁴⁴ And in the days of those kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed, nor shall the sovereignty thereof be left to another people; but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.

²⁵ Know therefore and discern, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the anointed one, the prince, shall be seven weeks: and threescore and two weeks, it shall be built again, with street and moat, even in troublous times.

² saying, Repent ye; for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

¹⁷ From that time began Jesus to preach, and to say, Repent ye; for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

⁷ And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.

³¹ Whether of the twain did the will of his father? They say, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, that the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you. ³² For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye saw it, did not even repent yourselves afterward, that ye might believe him.

⁹ and heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.

¹¹ Even the dust from your city, that cleaveth to our feet, we do wipe off against you: howbeit know this, that the kingdom of God is come nigh.

⁴⁷ and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name unto all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem.

³⁶ Let all the house of Israel therefore know assuredly, that God hath made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom ye crucified. ³⁷ Now when they heard [this], they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and the rest of the apostles, Brethren, what shall we do? ³⁸ And Peter [said] unto them, Repent ye, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ unto the remission of your sins; and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

²¹ testifying both to Jews and to Greeks repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.

²⁶ but now is manifested, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the eternal God, is made known unto all the nations unto obedience of faith;

⁴ but when the fulness of the time came, God sent forth his Son, born of a woman, born under the law,

¹⁰ unto a dispensation of the fulness of the times, to sum up all things in Christ, the things in the heavens, and the things upon the earth; in him, [I say],

²⁵ in meekness correcting them that oppose themselves; if peradventure God may give them repentance unto the knowledge of the truth, ²⁶ and they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by the Lord’s servant unto the will of God.

¹⁸ And walking by the sea of Galilee, he saw two brethren, Simon who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishers. ¹⁹ And he saith unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you fishers of men. ²⁰ And they straightway left the nets, and followed him. ²¹ And going on from thence he saw other two brethren, James the [son] of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them. ²² And they straightway left the boat and their father, and followed him.

² Now the names of the twelve apostles are these: The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the [son] of Zebedee, and John his brother;

¹⁶ And passing along by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew the brother of Simon casting a net in the sea: for they were fishers. ¹⁷ And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men. ¹⁸ And straightway they left the nets, and followed him. ¹⁹ And going on a little further, he saw James the [son] of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the boat mending the nets. ²⁰ And straightway he called them: and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants, and went after him.

¹⁶ and Simon he surnamed Peter;

¹⁸ and Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the [son] of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus, and Simon the Cananaean,

¹ Now it came to pass, while the multitude pressed upon him and heard the word of God, that he was standing by the lake of Gennesaret; ² and he saw two boats standing by the lake: but the fishermen had gone out of them, and were washing their nets. ³ And he entered into one of the boats, which was Simon’s, and asked him to put out a little from the land. And he sat down and taught the multitudes out of the boat. ⁴ And when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Put out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. ⁵ And Simon answered and said, Master, we toiled all night, and took nothing: but at thy word I will let down the nets. ⁶ And when they had this done, they enclosed a great multitude of fishes; and their nets were breaking; ⁷ and they beckoned unto their partners in the other boat, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink. ⁸ But Simon Peter, when he saw it, fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord. ⁹ For he was amazed, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken; ¹⁰ and so were also James and John, sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men. ¹¹ And when they had brought their boats to land, they left all, and followed him.

¹⁴ Simon, whom he also named Peter, and Andrew his brother, and James and John, and Philip and Bartholomew,

⁴⁰ One of the two that heard John [speak], and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. ⁴¹ He findeth first his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messiah (which is, being interpreted, Christ). ⁴² He brought him unto Jesus. Jesus looked upon him, and said, Thou art Simon the son of John: thou shalt be called Cephas (which is by interpretation, Peter).

⁸ One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, saith unto him,

²² Philip cometh and telleth Andrew: Andrew cometh, and Philip, and they tell Jesus.

¹³ And when they were come in, they went up into the upper chamber, where they were abiding; both Peter and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James [the son] of Alphaeus, and Simon the Zealot, and Judas [the son] of James.

¹⁰ And it shall come to pass, that fishers shall stand by it: from En-gedi even unto En-eglaim shall be a place for the spreading of nets; their fish shall be after their kinds, as the fish of the great sea, exceeding many.

¹⁹ And he saith unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you fishers of men. ²⁰ And they straightway left the nets, and followed him.

¹⁰ and so were also James and John, sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men.

³⁸ And Peter [said] unto them, Repent ye, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ unto the remission of your sins; and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. ³⁹ For to you is the promise, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, [even] as many as the Lord our God shall call unto him. ⁴⁰ And with many other words he testified, and exhorted them, saying, Save yourselves from this crooked generation. ⁴¹ They then that received his word were baptized: and there were added [unto them] in that day about three thousand souls.

²⁷ Then answered Peter and said unto him, Lo, we have left all, and followed thee; what then shall we have? ²⁸ And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, that ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit on the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. ²⁹ And every one that hath left houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or children, or lands, for my name’s sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and shall inherit eternal life. ³⁰ But many shall be last [that are] first; and first [that are] last.

²⁸ Peter began to say unto him, Lo, we have left all, and have followed thee. ²⁹ Jesus said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or mother, or father, or children, or lands, for my sake, and for the gospel’s sake, ³⁰ but he shall receive a hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life. ³¹ But many [that are] first shall be last; and the last first.

¹¹ And when they had brought their boats to land, they left all, and followed him.

³³ So therefore whosoever he be of you that renounceth not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.

²⁸ And Peter said, Lo, we have left our own, and followed thee. ²⁹ And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or wife, or brethren, or parents, or children, for the kingdom of God’s sake, ³⁰ who shall not receive manifold more in this time, and in the world to come eternal life.

⁸ Yea verily, and I count all things to be loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may gain Christ,

²¹ And going on from thence he saw other two brethren, James the [son] of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them.

¹⁷ and James the [son] of Zebedee, and John the brother of James; and them he surnamed Boanerges, which is, Sons of thunder:

³⁷ And he suffered no man to follow with him, save Peter, and James, and John the brother of James.

² And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and bringeth them up into a high mountain apart by themselves: and he was transfigured before them:

³⁵ And there come near unto him James and John, the sons of Zebedee, saying unto him, Master, we would that thou shouldest do for us whatsoever we shall ask of thee.

³³ And he taketh with him Peter and James and John, and began to be greatly amazed, and sore troubled.

² And he killed James the brother of John with the sword.

⁹ Who said of his father, and of his mother, I have not seen him; Neither did he acknowledge his brethren, Nor knew he his own children: For they have observed thy word, And keep thy covenant.

²⁰ And he left the oxen, and ran after Elijah, and said, Let me, I pray thee, kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow thee. And he said unto him, Go back again; for what have I done to thee?

²¹ And another of the disciples said unto him, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father. ²² But Jesus saith unto him, Follow me; and leave the dead to bury their own dead.

³⁷ He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

²⁹ Jesus said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or mother, or father, or children, or lands, for my sake, and for the gospel’s sake,

²⁶ If any man cometh unto me, and hateth not his own father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.

¹⁶ Wherefore we henceforth know no man after the flesh: even though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now we know [him so] no more.

¹³ and leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is by the sea, in the borders of Zebulun and Naphtali:

³⁹ And he went into their synagogues throughout all Galilee, preaching and casting out devils.

¹ And when he entered again into Capernaum after some days, it was noised that he was in the house.

² And when the sabbath was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, Whence hath this man these things? and, What is the wisdom that is given unto this man, and [what mean] such mighty works wrought by his hands?

¹ And he arose from thence, and cometh into the borders of Judaea and beyond Jordan: and multitudes come together unto him again; and, as he was wont, he taught them again.

¹⁶ And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and he entered, as his custom was, into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up to read.

³¹ And he came down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee. And he was teaching them on the sabbath day: ³² and they were astonished at his teaching; for his word was with authority. ³³ And in the synagogue there was a man, which had a spirit of an unclean devil; and he cried out with a loud voice, ³⁴ Ah! what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God. ³⁵ And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. And when the devil had thrown him down in the midst, he came out of him, having done him no hurt. ³⁶ And amazement came upon all, and they spake together, one with another, saying, What is this word? for with authority and power he commandeth the unclean spirits, and they come out. ³⁷ And there went forth a rumour concerning him into every place of the region round about.

¹⁵ And thou, Capernaum, shalt thou be exalted unto heaven? thou shalt be brought down unto Hades.

¹⁰ And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath day.

¹⁴ But they, passing through from Perga, came to Antioch of Pisidia; and they went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and sat down. ¹⁵ And after the reading of the law and the prophets the rulers of the synagogue sent unto them, saying, Brethren, if ye have any word of exhortation for the people, say on. ¹⁶ And Paul stood up, and beckoning with the hand said, Men of Israel, and ye that fear God, hearken. ¹⁷ The God of this people Israel chose our fathers, and exalted the people when they sojourned in the land of Egypt, and with a high arm led he them forth out of it. ¹⁸ And for about the time of forty years suffered he their manners in the wilderness. ¹⁹ And when he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, he gave [them] their land for an inheritance, for about four hundred and fifty years: ²⁰ and after these things he gave [them] judges until Samuel the prophet. ²¹ And afterward they asked for a king: and God gave unto them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for the space of forty years. ²² And when he had removed him, he raised up David to be their king; to whom also he bare witness, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after my heart, who shall do all my will. ²³ Of this man’s seed hath God according to promise brought unto Israel a Saviour, Jesus; ²⁴ when John had first preached before his coming the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel. ²⁵ And as John was fulfilling his course, he said, What suppose ye that I am? I am not [he]. But behold, there cometh one after me, the shoes of whose feet I am not worthy to unloose. ²⁶ Brethren, children of the stock of Abraham, and those among you that fear God, to us is the word of this salvation sent forth. ²⁷ For they that dwell in Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they knew him not, nor the voices of the prophets which are read every sabbath, fulfilled [them] by condemning [him]. ²⁸ And though they found no cause of death [in him], yet asked they of Pilate that he should be slain. ²⁹ And when they had fulfilled all things that were written of him, they took him down from the tree, and laid him in a tomb. ³⁰ But God raised him from the dead: ³¹ and he was seen for many days of them that came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are now his witnesses unto the people. ³² And we bring you good tidings of the promise made unto the fathers, ³³ how that God hath fulfilled the same unto our children, in that he raised up Jesus; as also it is written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee. ³⁴ And as concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he hath spoken on this wise, I will give you the holy and sure [blessings] of David. ³⁵ Because he saith also in another [psalm], Thou wilt not give thy Holy One to see corruption. ³⁶ For David, after he had in his own generation served the counsel of God, fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption: ³⁷ but he whom God raised up saw no corruption. ³⁸ Be it known unto you therefore, brethren, that through this man is proclaimed unto you remission of sins: ³⁹ and by him every one that believeth is justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses. ⁴⁰ Beware therefore, lest that come upon [you], which is spoken in the prophets; ⁴¹ Behold, ye despisers, and wonder, and perish; For I work a work in your days, A work which ye shall in no wise believe, if one declare it unto you. ⁴² And as they went out, they besought that these words might be spoken to them the next sabbath. ⁴³ Now when the synagogue broke up, many of the Jews and of the devout proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas: who, speaking to them, urged them to continue in the grace of God. ⁴⁴ And the next sabbath almost the whole city was gathered together to hear the word of God. ⁴⁵ But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with jealousy, and contradicted the things which were spoken by Paul, and blasphemed. ⁴⁶ And Paul and Barnabas spake out boldly, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first be spoken to you. Seeing ye thrust it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles. ⁴⁷ For so hath the Lord commanded us, [saying], I have set thee for a light of the Gentiles, That thou shouldest be for salvation unto the uttermost part of the earth. ⁴⁸ And as the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of God: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed. ⁴⁹ And the word of the Lord was spread abroad throughout all the region. ⁵⁰ But the Jews urged on the devout women of honourable estate, and the chief men of the city, and stirred up a persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and cast them out of their borders. ⁵¹ But they shook off the dust of their feet against them, and came unto Iconium. ⁵² And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Ghost.

² and Paul, as his custom was, went in unto them, and for three sabbath days reasoned with them from the scriptures,

⁴ And he reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded Jews and Greeks.

²⁹ Is not my word like as fire? saith the LORD; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?

²⁸ And it came to pass, when Jesus ended these words, the multitudes were astonished at his teaching: ²⁹ for he taught them as [one] having authority, and not as their scribes.

⁵⁴ And coming into his own country he taught them in their synagogue, insomuch that they were astonished, and said, Whence hath this man this wisdom, and these mighty works?

¹⁶ Woe unto you, ye blind guides, which say, Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor. ¹⁷ Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gold, or the temple that hath sanctified the gold? ¹⁸ And, Whosoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gift that is upon it, he is a debtor. ¹⁹ Ye blind: for whether is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifieth the gift? ²⁰ He therefore that sweareth by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all things thereon. ²¹ And he that sweareth by the temple, sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth therein. ²² And he that sweareth by the heaven, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him that sitteth thereon. ²³ Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye tithe mint and anise and cummin, and have left undone the weightier matters of the law, judgment, and mercy, and faith: but these ye ought to have done, and not to have left the other undone. ²⁴ Ye blind guides, which strain out the gnat, and swallow the camel.

³ For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, except they wash their hands diligently, eat not, holding the tradition of the elders: ⁴ and [when they come] from the marketplace, except they wash themselves, they eat not: and many other things there be, which they have received to hold, washings of cups, and pots, and brasen vessels. ⁵ And the Pharisees and the scribes ask him, Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat their bread with defiled hands? ⁶ And he said unto them, Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, But their heart is far from me. ⁷ But in vain do they worship me, Teaching [as their] doctrines the precepts of men. ⁸ Ye leave the commandment of God, and hold fast the tradition of men. ⁹ And he said unto them, Full well do ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your tradition. ¹⁰ For Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother; and, He that speaketh evil of father or mother, let him die the death: ¹¹ but ye say, If a man shall say to his father or his mother, That wherewith thou mightest have been profited by me is Corban, that is to say, Given [to God]; ¹² ye no longer suffer him to do aught for his father or his mother; ¹³ making void the word of God by your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things ye do.

³² and they were astonished at his teaching; for his word was with authority.

¹⁵ for I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to withstand or to gainsay.

⁴⁶ The officers answered, Never man so spake.

¹⁰ And they were not able to withstand the wisdom and the Spirit by which he spake.

²¹ And all that heard him were amazed, and said, Is not this he that in Jerusalem made havock of them which called on this name? and he had come hither for this intent, that he might bring them bound before the chief priests. ²² But Saul increased the more in strength, and confounded the Jews which dwelt at Damascus, proving that this is the Christ.

² but we have renounced the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by the manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.

¹² For the word of God is living, and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and quick to discern the thoughts and intents of the heart. ¹³ And there is no creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and laid open before the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

⁴³ But the unclean spirit, when he is gone out of the man, passeth through waterless places, seeking rest, and findeth it not.

³⁴ And he healed many that were sick with divers diseases, and cast out many devils; and he suffered not the devils to speak, because they knew him.

² And when he was come out of the boat, straightway there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit,

²⁵ But straightway a woman, whose little daughter had an unclean spirit, having heard of him, came and fell down at his feet.

²⁵ And when Jesus saw that a multitude came running together, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I command thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.

¹² Is not this the word that we spake unto thee in Egypt, saying, Let us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians? For it were better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness.

¹⁰ For thou wilt not leave my soul to Sheol; neither wilt thou suffer thine holy one to see corruption.

¹⁸ For our shield belongeth unto the LORD; and our king to the Holy One of Israel. ¹⁹ Then thou spakest in vision to thy saints, and saidst, I have laid help upon one that is mighty; I have exalted one chosen out of the people.

²⁴ Seventy weeks are decreed upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most holy.

²⁹ And behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time?

⁷ and crying out with a loud voice, he saith, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the Most High God? I adjure thee by God, torment me not.

³⁴ Ah! what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God.

²⁸ And when he saw Jesus, he cried out, and fell down before him, and with a loud voice said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the Most High God? I beseech thee, torment me not.

³⁷ And all the people of the country of the Gerasenes round about asked him to depart from them; for they were holden with great fear: and he entered into a boat, and returned.

¹⁹ And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, The things concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people:

²⁷ Because thou wilt not leave my soul in Hades, Neither wilt thou give thy Holy One to see corruption.

¹⁴ But ye denied the Holy and Righteous One, and asked for a murderer to be granted unto you,

²⁷ for of a truth in this city against thy holy Servant Jesus, whom thou didst anoint, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, were gathered together,

⁵ For we have found this man a pestilent fellow, and a mover of insurrections among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes:

¹⁹ Thou believest that God is one; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and shudder.

⁷ And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and none shall shut, and that shutteth, and none openeth:

¹⁶ But unto the wicked God saith, What hast thou to do to declare my statutes; and that thou hast taken my covenant in thy mouth?

¹¹ And the unclean spirits, whensoever they beheld him, fell down before him, and cried, saying, Thou art the Son of God. ¹² And he charged them much that they should not make him known.

³⁵ And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. And when the devil had thrown him down in the midst, he came out of him, having done him no hurt.

⁴¹ And devils also came out from many, crying out, and saying, Thou art the Son of God. And rebuking them, he suffered them not to speak, because they knew that he was the Christ.

¹⁷ The same following after Paul and us cried out, saying, These men are servants of the Most High God, which proclaim unto you the way of salvation.

²⁰ And they brought him unto him: and when he saw him, straightway the spirit tare him grievously; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming.

²⁶ And having cried out, and torn him much, he came out: and [the child] became as one dead; insomuch that the more part said, He is dead.

³⁹ and behold, a spirit taketh him, and he suddenly crieth out; and it teareth him that he foameth, and it hardly departeth from him, bruising him sorely.

⁴² And as he was yet a coming, the devil dashed him down, and tare [him] grievously. But Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the boy, and gave him back to his father.

²² but when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him his whole armour wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils.

³³ And when the devil was cast out, the dumb man spake: and the multitudes marveled, saying, It was never so seen in Israel.

²² Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, blind and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the dumb man spake and saw. ²³ And all the multitudes were amazed, and said, Is this the son of David?

³¹ insomuch that the multitude wondered, when they saw the dumb speaking, the maimed whole, and the lame walking, and the blind seeing: and they glorified the God of Israel.

³⁷ And they were beyond measure astonished, saying, He hath done all things well: he maketh even the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak.

²⁴ And the disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God!

³² And they were in the way, going up to Jerusalem; and Jesus was going before them: and they were amazed; and they that followed were afraid. And he took again the twelve, and began to tell them the things that were to happen unto him,

³⁶ And amazement came upon all, and they spake together, one with another, saying, What is this word? for with authority and power he commandeth the unclean spirits, and they come out.

¹ And he called the twelve together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases.

¹⁷ And the seventy returned with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us in thy name. ¹⁸ And he said unto them, I beheld Satan fallen as lightning from heaven. ¹⁹ Behold, I have given you authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall in any wise hurt you. ²⁰ Howbeit in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.

⁴ And he shall stand, and shall feed [his flock] in the strength of the LORD, in the majesty of the name of the LORD his God: and they shall abide; for now shall he be great unto the ends of the earth.

²⁴ And the report of him went forth into all Syria: and they brought unto him all that were sick, holden with divers diseases and torments, possessed with devils, and epileptic, and palsied; and he healed them.

³¹ But they went forth, and spread abroad his fame in all that land.

⁴⁵ But he went out, and began to publish it much, and to spread abroad the matter, insomuch that Jesus could no more openly enter into a city, but was without in desert places: and they came to him from every quarter.

¹⁷ And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Isaiah. And he opened the book, and found the place where it was written,

³⁷ And there went forth a rumour concerning him into every place of the region round about.

¹⁴ And when Jesus was come into Peter’s house, he saw his wife’s mother lying sick of a fever. ¹⁵ And he touched her hand, and the fever left her; and she arose, and ministered unto him.

²¹ And they go into Capernaum; and straightway on the sabbath day he entered into the synagogue and taught.

²³ And straightway there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out,

³⁸ And he rose up from the synagogue, and entered into the house of Simon. And Simon’s wife’s mother was holden with a great fever; and they besought him for her. ³⁹ And he stood over her, and rebuked the fever; and it left her: and immediately she rose up and ministered unto them.

⁵⁸ And Jesus said unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the heaven [have] nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.

²³ and beseecheth him much, saying, My little daughter is at the point of death: [I pray thee], that thou come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be made whole, and live.

³ The sisters therefore sent unto him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick.

⁵ Have we no right to lead about a wife that is a believer, even as the rest of the apostles, and the brethren of the Lord, and Cephas?

¹⁴ Is any among you sick? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: ¹⁵ and the prayer of faith shall save him that is sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, it shall be forgiven him.

¹ A Psalm of David. Bless the LORD, O my soul; and all that is within me, [bless] his holy name. ² Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: ³ Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;

¹² What shall I render unto the LORD for all his benefits toward me?

⁵⁵ And many women were there beholding from afar, which had followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering unto him:

⁴¹ And taking the child by the hand, he saith unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, Arise.

⁴¹ who, when he was in Galilee, followed him, and ministered unto him; and many other women which came up with him unto Jerusalem.

² and certain women which had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary that was called Magdalene, from whom seven devils had gone out, ³ and Joanna the wife of Chuza Herod’s steward, and Susanna, and many others, which ministered unto them of their substance.

⁴¹ And he gave her his hand, and raised her up; and calling the saints and widows, he presented her alive.

¹⁶ And when even was come, they brought unto him many possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all that were sick:

² And they watched him, whether he would heal him on the sabbath day; that they might accuse him.

⁴⁰ And when the sun was setting, all they that had any sick with divers diseases brought them unto him; and he laid his hands on every one of them, and healed them.

⁵ And there went out unto him all the country of Judaea, and all they of Jerusalem; and they were baptized of him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.

⁴⁴ And the next sabbath almost the whole city was gathered together to hear the word of God.

²⁵ And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him.

¹² And he charged them much that they should not make him known.

¹⁶ And it came to pass, as we were going to the place of prayer, that a certain maid having a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying. ¹⁷ The same following after Paul and us cried out, saying, These men are servants of the Most High God, which proclaim unto you the way of salvation. ¹⁸ And this she did for many days. But Paul, being sore troubled, turned and said to the spirit, I charge thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And it came out that very hour.

³ O LORD, in the morning shalt thou hear my voice; in the morning will I order [my prayer] unto thee, and will keep watch.

⁴ For my love they are my adversaries: but I [give myself unto] prayer.

²³ And after he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into the mountain apart to pray: and when even was come, he was there alone.

⁴⁶ And after he had taken leave of them, he departed into the mountain to pray. ⁴⁷ And when even was come, the boat was in the midst of the sea, and he alone on the land. ⁴⁸ And seeing them distressed in rowing, for the wind was contrary unto them, about the fourth watch of the night he cometh unto them, walking on the sea; and he would have passed by them:

⁴² And when it was day, he came out and went into a desert place: and the multitudes sought after him, and came unto him, and would have stayed him, that he should not go from them. ⁴³ But he said unto them, I must preach the good tidings of the kingdom of God to the other cities also: for therefore was I sent.

¹⁶ But he withdrew himself in the deserts, and prayed.

¹² And it came to pass in these days, that he went out into the mountain to pray; and he continued all night in prayer to God.

³⁹ And he came out, and went, as his custom was, unto the mount of Olives; and the disciples also followed him. ⁴⁰ And when he was at the place, he said unto them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation. ⁴¹ And he was parted from them about a stone’s cast; and he kneeled down and prayed, ⁴² saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done. ⁴³ And there appeared unto him an angel from heaven, strengthening him. ⁴⁴ And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat became as it were great drops of blood falling down upon the ground. ⁴⁵ And when he rose up from his prayer, he came unto the disciples, and found them sleeping for sorrow, ⁴⁶ and said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, that ye enter not into temptation.

³⁴ Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to accomplish his work.

¹⁵ Jesus therefore perceiving that they were about to come and take him by force, to make him king, withdrew again into the mountain himself alone.

¹⁸ with all prayer and supplication praying at all seasons in the Spirit, and watching thereunto in all perseverance and supplication for all the saints,

⁵ Have this mind in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

⁷ Who in the days of his flesh, having offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and having been heard for his godly fear,

¹¹ And it was broken in that day: and thus the poor of the flock that gave heed unto me knew that it was the word of the LORD.

²⁶ And they came unto John, and said to him, Rabbi, he that was with thee beyond Jordan, to whom thou hast borne witness, behold, the same baptizeth, and all men come to him.

⁴⁸ If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him: and the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation.

¹⁹ The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, Behold how ye prevail nothing: lo, the world is gone after him.

⁴⁹ And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be in my Father’s house?

¹⁸ The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, Because he anointed me to preach good tidings to the poor: He hath sent me to proclaim release to the captives, And recovering of sight to the blind, To set at liberty them that are bruised, ¹⁹ To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord. ²⁰ And he closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant, and sat down: and the eyes of all in the synagogue were fastened on him. ²¹ And he began to say unto them, Today hath this scripture been fulfilled in your ears.

⁴³ But he said unto them, I must preach the good tidings of the kingdom of God to the other cities also: for therefore was I sent.

⁴ We must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.

²⁸ I came out from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go unto the Father.

⁴ I glorified thee on the earth, having accomplished the work which thou hast given me to do.

⁸ for the words which thou gavest me I have given unto them; and they received [them], and knew of a truth that I came forth from thee, and they believed that thou didst send me.

³⁰ And she went away unto her house, and found the child laid upon the bed, and the devil gone out.

¹⁴ Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the set time I will return unto thee, when the season cometh round, and Sarah shall have a son.

¹ And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, ² When a man shall have in the skin of his flesh a rising, or a scab, or a bright spot, and it become in the skin of his flesh the plague of leprosy, then he shall be brought unto Aaron the priest, or unto one of his sons the priests: ³ and the priest shall look on the plague in the skin of the flesh: and if the hair in the plague be turned white, and the appearance of the plague be deeper than the skin of his flesh, it is the plague of leprosy: and the priest shall look on him, and pronounce him unclean. ⁴ And if the bright spot be white in the skin of his flesh, and the appearance thereof be not deeper than the skin, and the hair thereof be not turned white, then the priest shall shut up [him that hath] the plague seven days: ⁵ and the priest shall look on him the seventh day: and, behold, if in his eyes the plague be at a stay, and the plague be not spread in the skin, then the priest shall shut him up seven days more: ⁶ and the priest shall look on him again the seventh day: and, behold, if the plague be dim, and the plague be not spread in the skin, then the priest shall pronounce him clean: it is a scab: and he shall wash his clothes, and be clean. ⁷ But if the scab spread abroad in the skin, after that he hath shewn himself to the priest for his cleansing, he shall shew himself to the priest again: ⁸ and the priest shall look, and, behold, if the scab be spread in the skin, then the priest shall pronounce him unclean: it is leprosy. ⁹ When the plague of leprosy is in a man, then he shall be brought unto the priest; ¹⁰ and the priest shall look, and, behold, if there be a white rising in the skin, and it have turned the hair white, and there be quick raw flesh in the rising, ¹¹ it is an old leprosy in the skin of his flesh, and the priest shall pronounce him unclean: he shall not shut him up; for he is unclean. ¹² And if the leprosy break out abroad in the skin, and the leprosy cover all the skin of [him that hath] the plague from his head even to his feet, as far as appeareth to the priest; ¹³ then the priest shall look: and, behold, if the leprosy have covered all his flesh, he shall pronounce [him] clean [that hath] the plague: it is all turned white: he is clean. ¹⁴ But whensoever raw flesh appeareth in him, he shall be unclean.

¹⁰ And the cloud removed from over the Tent; and, behold, Miriam was leprous, as [white as] snow: and Aaron looked upon Miriam, and, behold, she was leprous. ¹¹ And Aaron said unto Moses, Oh my lord, lay not, I pray thee, sin upon us, for that we have done foolishly, and for that we have sinned. ¹² Let her not, I pray, be as one dead, of whom the flesh is half consumed when he cometh out of his mother’s womb. ¹³ And Moses cried unto the LORD, saying, Heal her, O God, I beseech thee. ¹⁴ And the LORD said unto Moses, If her father had but spit in her face, should she not be ashamed seven days? let her be shut up without the camp seven days, and after that she shall be brought in again. ¹⁵ And Miriam was shut up without the camp seven days: and the people journeyed not till Miriam was brought in again.

⁸ Take heed in the plague of leprosy, that thou observe diligently, and do according to all that the priests the Levites shall teach you: as I commanded them, so ye shall observe to do. ⁹ Remember what the LORD thy God did unto Miriam, by the way as ye came forth out of Egypt.

²⁹ let it fall upon the head of Joab, and upon all his father’s house; and let there not fail from the house of Joab one that hath an issue, or that is a leper, or that leaneth on a staff, or that falleth by the sword, or that lacketh bread.

⁵ And the king of Syria said, Go to, go, and I will send a letter unto the king of Israel. And he departed, and took with him ten talents of silver, and six thousand [pieces] of gold, and ten changes of raiment. ⁶ And he brought the letter to the king of Israel, saying, And now when this letter is come unto thee, behold, I have sent Naaman my servant to thee, that thou mayest recover him of his leprosy. ⁷ And it came to pass, when the king of Israel had read the letter, that he rent his clothes, and said, Am I God, to kill and to make alive, that this man doth send unto me to recover a man of his leprosy? but consider, I pray you, and see how he seeketh a quarrel against me. ⁸ And it was so, when Elisha the man of God heard that the king of Israel had rent his clothes, that he sent to the king, saying, Wherefore hast thou rent thy clothes? let him come now to me, and he shall know that there is a prophet in Israel. ⁹ So Naaman came with his horses and with his chariots, and stood at the door of the house of Elisha. ¹⁰ And Elisha sent a messenger unto him saying, Go and wash in Jordan seven times, and thy flesh shall come again to thee, and thou shalt be clean. ¹¹ But Naaman was wroth, and went away, and said, Behold, I thought, He will surely come out to me, and stand, and call on the name of the LORD his God, and wave his hand over the place, and recover the leper. ¹² Are not Abanah and Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? may I not wash in them, and be clean? So he turned and went away in a rage. ¹³ And his servants came near, and spake unto him, and said, My father, if the prophet had bid thee do some great thing, wouldest thou not have done it? how much rather then, when he saith to thee, Wash, and be clean? ¹⁴ Then went he down, and dipped himself seven times in Jordan, according to the saying of the man of God: and his flesh came again like unto the flesh of a little child, and he was clean. ¹⁵ And he returned to the man of God, he and all his company, and came, and stood before him: and he said, Behold now, I know that there is no God in all the earth, but in Israel: now therefore, I pray thee, take a present of thy servant. ¹⁶ But he said, As the LORD liveth, before whom I stand, I will receive none. And he urged him to take it; but he refused. ¹⁷ And Naaman said, If not, yet I pray thee let there be given to thy servant two mules’ burden of earth; for thy servant will henceforth offer neither burnt offering nor sacrifice unto other gods, but unto the LORD. ¹⁸ In this thing the LORD pardon thy servant; when my master goeth into the house of Rimmon to worship there, and he leaneth on my hand, and I bow myself in the house of Rimmon, when I bow myself in the house of Rimmon, the LORD pardon thy servant in this thing. ¹⁹ And he said unto him, Go in peace. So he departed from him a little way. ²⁰ But Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the man of God, said, Behold, my master hath spared this Naaman the Syrian, in not receiving at his hands that which he brought: as the LORD liveth, I will run after him, and take somewhat of him. ²¹ So Gehazi followed after Naaman. And when Naaman saw one running after him, he lighted down from the chariot to meet him, and said, Is all well? ²² And he said, All is well. My master hath sent me, saying, Behold, even now there be come to me from the hill country of Ephraim two young men of the sons of the prophets; give them, I pray thee, a talent of silver, and two changes of raiment. ²³ And Naaman said, Be content, take two talents. And he urged him, and bound two talents of silver in two bags, with two changes of raiment, and laid them upon two of his servants; and they bare them before him. ²⁴ And when he came to the hill, he took them from their hand, and bestowed them in the house: and he let the men go, and they departed. ²⁵ But he went in, and stood before his master. And Elisha said unto him, Whence comest thou, Gehazi? And he said, Thy servant went no whither. ²⁶ And he said unto him, Went not mine heart [with thee], when the man turned again from his chariot to meet thee? Is it a time to receive money, and to receive garments, and oliveyards and vineyards, and sheep and oxen, and menservants and maidservants? ²⁷ The leprosy therefore of Naaman shall cleave unto thee, and unto thy seed for ever. And he went out from his presence a leper [as white] as snow.

³ Now there were four leprous men at the entering in of the gate: and they said one to another, Why sit we here until we die?

⁵ And the LORD smote the king, so that he was a leper unto the day of his death, and dwelt in a several house. And Jotham the king’s son was over the household, judging the people of the land:

¹³ (for Solomon had made a brasen scaffold, of five cubits long, and five cubits broad, and three cubits high, and had set it in the midst of the court; and upon it he stood, and kneeled down upon his knees before all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward heaven:)

² And behold, there came to him a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. ³ And he stretched forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou made clean. And straightway his leprosy was cleansed. ⁴ And Jesus saith unto him, See thou tell no man; but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.

⁵ the blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, and the dead are raised up, and the poor have good tidings preached to them.

¹⁴ And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a man, kneeling to him, and saying,

²² And oft-times it hath cast him both into the fire and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do anything, have compassion on us, and help us. ²³ And Jesus said unto him, If thou canst! All things are possible to him that believeth.

¹⁷ And as he was going forth into the way, there ran one to him, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?

¹² And it came to pass, while he was in one of the cities, behold, a man full of leprosy: and when he saw Jesus, he fell on his face, and besought him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. ¹³ And he stretched forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou made clean. And straightway the leprosy departed from him. ¹⁴ And he charged him to tell no man: but go thy way, and shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing, according as Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.

¹² And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off: ¹³ and they lifted up their voices, saying, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us. ¹⁴ And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go and shew yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, as they went, they were cleansed. ¹⁵ And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, with a loud voice glorifying God; ¹⁶ and he fell upon his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan. ¹⁷ And Jesus answering said, Were not the ten cleansed? but where are the nine? ¹⁸ Were there none found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger? ¹⁹ And he said unto him, Arise, and go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole.

⁴¹ And he was parted from them about a stone’s cast; and he kneeled down and prayed,

⁶⁰ And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep.

¹⁴ For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father,

³ And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

⁹ For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast.

³⁶ But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion for them, because they were distressed and scattered, as sheep not having a shepherd.

³⁹ And he awoke, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

³⁴ And he came forth and saw a great multitude, and he had compassion on them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things.

¹² Now when he drew near to the gate of the city, behold, there was carried out one that was dead, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow: and much people of the city was with her. ¹³ And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not.

³ who being the effulgence of his glory, and the very image of his substance, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had made purification of sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

¹⁷ Wherefore it behoved him in all things to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people.

²⁸ Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it done unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was healed from that hour.

³¹ and he came and took her by the hand, and raised her up; and the fever left her, and she ministered unto them.

²⁹ And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of her plague.

⁵⁰ Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. The man believed the word that Jesus spake unto him, and he went his way. ⁵¹ And as he was now going down, his servants met him, saying, that his son lived. ⁵² So he inquired of them the hour when he began to amend. They said therefore unto him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him. ⁵³ So the father knew that [it was] at that hour in which Jesus said unto him, Thy son liveth: and himself believed, and his whole house.

³ Already ye are clean because of the word which I have spoken unto you.

³⁰ And their eyes were opened. And Jesus strictly charged them, saying, See that no man know it.

⁴³ And he charged them much that no man should know this: and he commanded that [something] should be given her to eat.

³⁶ And he charged them that they should tell no man: but the more he charged them, so much the more a great deal they published it.

⁵⁶ And her parents were amazed: but he charged them to tell no man what had been done.

¹ And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, ² This shall be the law of the leper in the day of his cleansing: he shall be brought unto the priest: ³ and the priest shall go forth out of the camp; and the priest shall look, and, behold, if the plague of leprosy be healed in the leper; ⁴ then shall the priest command to take for him that is to be cleansed two living clean birds, and cedar wood, and scarlet, and hyssop: ⁵ And the priest shall command to kill one of the birds in an earthen vessel over running water: ⁶ as for the living bird, he shall take it, and the cedar wood, and the scarlet, and the hyssop, and shall dip them and the living bird in the blood of the bird that was killed over the running water: ⁷ And he shall sprinkle upon him that is to be cleansed from the leprosy seven times, and shall pronounce him clean, and shall let go the living bird into the open field. ⁸ And he that is to be cleansed shall wash his clothes, and shave off all his hair, and bathe himself in water, and he shall be clean: and after that he shall come into the camp, but shall dwell outside his tent seven days. ⁹ And it shall be on the seventh day, that he shall shave all his hair off his head and his beard and his eyebrows, even all his hair he shall shave off: and he shall wash his clothes, and he shall bathe his flesh in water, and he shall be clean. ¹⁰ And on the eighth day he shall take two he-lambs without blemish, and one ewe-lamb of the first year without blemish, and three tenth parts [of an ephah] of fine flour for a meal offering, mingled with oil, and one log of oil. ¹¹ And the priest that cleanseth him shall set the man that is to be cleansed, and those things, before the LORD, at the door of the tent of meeting: ¹² and the priest shall take one of the he-lambs, and offer him for a guilt offering, and the log of oil, and wave them for a wave offering before the LORD: ¹³ and he shall kill the he-lamb in the place where they kill the sin offering and the burnt offering, in the place of the sanctuary: for as the sin offering is the priest’s, so is the guilt offering: it is most holy: ¹⁴ and the priest shall take of the blood of the guilt offering, and the priest shall put it upon the tip of the right ear of him that is to be cleansed, and upon the thumb of his right hand, and upon the great toe of his right foot: ¹⁵ and the priest shall take of the log of oil, and pour it into the palm of his own left hand: ¹⁶ and the priest shall dip his right finger in the oil that is in his left hand, and shall sprinkle of the oil with his finger seven times before the LORD: ¹⁷ and of the rest of the oil that is in his hand shall the priest put upon the tip of the right ear of him that is to be cleansed, and upon the thumb of his right hand, and upon the great toe of his right foot, upon the blood of the guilt offering: ¹⁸ and the rest of the oil that is in the priest’s hand he shall put upon the head of him that is to be cleansed: and the priest shall make atonement for him before the LORD. ¹⁹ And the priest shall offer the sin offering, and make atonement for him that is to be cleansed because of his uncleanness; and afterward he shall kill the burnt offering: ²⁰ and the priest shall offer the burnt offering and the meal offering upon the altar: and the priest shall make atonement for him, and he shall be clean. ²¹ And if he be poor, and cannot get so much, then he shall take one he-lamb for a guilt offering to be waved, to make atonement for him, and one tenth part [of an ephah] of fine flour mingled with oil for a meal offering, and a log of oil; ²² and two turtledoves, or two young pigeons, such as he is able to get; and the one shall be a sin offering, and the other a burnt offering. ²³ And on the eighth day he shall bring them for his cleansing unto the priest, unto the door of the tent of meeting, before the LORD. ²⁴ And the priest shall take the lamb of the guilt offering, and the log of oil, and the priest shall wave them for a wave offering before the LORD: ²⁵ and he shall kill the lamb of the guilt offering, and the priest shall take of the blood of the guilt offering, and put it upon the tip of the right ear of him that is to be cleansed, and upon the thumb of his right hand, and upon the great toe of his right foot: ²⁶ and the priest shall pour of the oil into the palm of his own left hand: ²⁷ and the priest shall sprinkle with his right finger some of the oil that is in his left hand seven times before the LORD: ²⁸ and the priest shall put of the oil that is in his hand upon the tip of the right ear of him that is to be cleansed, and upon the thumb of his right hand, and upon the great toe of his right foot, upon the place of the blood of the guilt offering: ²⁹ and the rest of the oil that is in the priest’s hand he shall put upon the head of him that is to be cleansed, to make atonement for him before the LORD. ³⁰ And he shall offer one of the turtledoves, or of the young pigeons, such as he is able to get; ³¹ even such as he is able to get, the one for a sin offering, and the other for a burnt offering, with the meal offering: and the priest shall make atonement for him that is to be cleansed before the LORD. ³² This is the law of him in whom is the plague of leprosy, who is not able to get [that which pertaineth] to his cleansing.

⁴ And Jesus saith unto him, See thou tell no man; but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.

² saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses’ seat: ³ all things therefore whatsoever they bid you, [these] do and observe: but do not ye after their works; for they say, and do not.

¹⁴ And he charged him to tell no man: but go thy way, and shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing, according as Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.

¹⁴ And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go and shew yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, as they went, they were cleansed.

⁴ For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that through patience and through comfort of the scriptures we might have hope.

¹¹ Now these things happened unto them by way of example; and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages are come.

¹¹ I will make mention of the deeds of the LORD; for I will remember thy wonders of old.

¹⁵ So they took the money, and did as they were taught: and this saying was spread abroad among the Jews, [and continueth] until this day.

¹ And when he entered again into Capernaum after some days, it was noised that he was in the house. ² And many were gathered together, so that there was no longer room [for them], no, not even about the door: and he spake the word unto them.

¹³ And he went forth again by the sea side; and all the multitude resorted unto him, and he taught them.

⁷ And Jesus with his disciples withdrew to the sea: and a great multitude from Galilee followed: and from Judaea,

¹⁵ But so much the more went abroad the report concerning him: and great multitudes came together to hear, and to be healed of their infirmities. ¹⁶ But he withdrew himself in the deserts, and prayed. ¹⁷ And it came to pass on one of those days, that he was teaching; and there were Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by, which were come out of every village of Galilee and Judaea and Jerusalem: and the power of the Lord was with him to heal.

² And a great multitude followed him, because they beheld the signs which he did on them that were sick.

¹⁰ For there are many unruly men, vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision,
