¹ Finally then, brethren, we beseech and exhort you in the Lord Jesus, that, as ye received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, even as ye do walk,—that ye abound more and more. ² For ye know what charge we gave you through the Lord Jesus. ³ For this is the will of God, [even] your sanctification, that ye abstain from fornication; ⁴ that each one of you know how to possess himself of his own vessel in sanctification and honour, ⁵ not in the passion of lust, even as the Gentiles which know not God; ⁶ that no man transgress, and wrong his brother in the matter: because the Lord is an avenger in all these things, as also we forewarned you and testified. ⁷ For God called us not for uncleanness, but in sanctification. ⁸ Therefore he that rejecteth, rejecteth not man, but God, who giveth his Holy Spirit unto you. ⁹ But concerning love of the brethren ye have no need that one write unto you: for ye yourselves are taught of God to love one another; ¹⁰ for indeed ye do it toward all the brethren which are in all Macedonia. But we exhort you, brethren, that ye abound more and more; ¹¹ and that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your hands, even as we charged you; ¹² that ye may walk honestly toward them that are without, and may have need of nothing. ¹³ But we would not have you ignorant, brethren, concerning them that fall asleep; that ye sorrow not, even as the rest, which have no hope. ¹⁴ For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also that are fallen asleep in Jesus will God bring with him. ¹⁵ For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we that are alive, that are left unto the coming of the Lord, shall in no wise precede them that are fallen asleep. ¹⁶ For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven, with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: ¹⁷ then we that are alive, that are left, shall together with them be caught up in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. ¹⁸ Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

⁹ Yet shall the righteous hold on his way, and he that hath clean hands shall wax stronger and stronger.

¹⁴ They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be full of sap and green:

¹⁸ But the path of the righteous is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.

² Every branch in me that beareth not fruit, he taketh it away: and every [branch] that beareth fruit, he cleanseth it, that it may bear more fruit.

²⁷ For I shrank not from declaring unto you the whole counsel of God.

⁸ and they that are in the flesh cannot please God.

¹ I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, [which is] your reasonable service. ² And be not fashioned according to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

²³ For I received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, how that the Lord Jesus in the night in which he was betrayed took bread;

¹ Now I make known unto you brethren, the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye received, wherein also ye stand,

⁵⁸ Wherefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not vain in the Lord.

⁹ Wherefore also we make it our aim, whether at home or absent, to be well-pleasing unto him.

¹ And working together [with him] we entreat also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain

¹ Now I Paul myself entreat you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, I who in your presence am lowly among you, but being absent am of good courage toward you:

¹¹ Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfected; be comforted; be of the same mind; live in peace: and the God of love and peace shall be with you.

¹ I therefore, the prisoner in the Lord, beseech you to walk worthily of the calling wherewith ye were called,

²⁰ But ye did not so learn Christ;

¹⁷ Wherefore be ye not foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

⁹ And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and all discernment;

²⁷ Only let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ: that, whether I come and see you or be absent, I may hear of your state, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one soul striving for the faith of the gospel;

¹⁴ I press on toward the goal unto the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

¹⁰ to walk worthily of the Lord unto all pleasing, bearing fruit in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;

⁶ As therefore ye received Christ Jesus the Lord, [so] walk in him,

¹¹ as ye know how we [dealt with] each one of you, as a father with his own children, exhorting you, and encouraging [you], and testifying, ¹² to the end that ye should walk worthily of God, who calleth you into his own kingdom and glory.

¹² and the Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all men, even as we also [do] toward you;

² For ye know what charge we gave you through the Lord Jesus.

¹⁰ for indeed ye do it toward all the brethren which are in all Macedonia. But we exhort you, brethren, that ye abound more and more; ¹¹ and that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your hands, even as we charged you; ¹² that ye may walk honestly toward them that are without, and may have need of nothing.

³ We are bound to give thanks to God alway for you, brethren, even as it is meet, for that your faith groweth exceedingly, and the love of each one of you all toward one another aboundeth;

¹ Now we beseech you, brethren, touching the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and our gathering together unto him;

¹ Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may run and be glorified, even as also [it is] with you;

¹⁰ For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, If any will not work, neither let him eat. ¹¹ For we hear of some that walk among you disorderly, that work not at all, but are busybodies. ¹² Now them that are such we command and exhort in the Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread.

²¹ I charge [thee] in the sight of God, and Christ Jesus, and the elect angels, that thou observe these things without prejudice, doing nothing by partiality.

¹³ I charge thee in the sight of God, who quickeneth all things, and of Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed the good confession; ¹⁴ that thou keep the commandment, without spot, without reproach, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ:

¹ I charge [thee] in the sight of God, and of Christ Jesus, who shall judge the quick and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom;

⁹ yet for love’s sake I rather beseech, being such a one as Paul the aged, and now a prisoner also of Christ Jesus: ¹⁰ I beseech thee for my child, whom I have begotten in my bonds, Onesimus,

⁶ And without faith it is impossible to be well-pleasing [unto him]: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and [that] he is a rewarder of them that seek after him.

¹⁶ But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.

²² But I exhort you, brethren, bear with the word of exhortation: for I have written unto you in few words.

⁵ Yea, and for this very cause adding on your part all diligence, in your faith supply virtue; and in [your] virtue knowledge; ⁶ and in [your] knowledge temperance; and in [your] temperance patience; and in [your] patience godliness; ⁷ and in [your] godliness love of the brethren; and in [your] love of the brethren love. ⁸ For if these things are yours and abound, they make you to be not idle nor unfruitful unto the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. ⁹ For he that lacketh these things is blind, seeing only what is near, having forgotten the cleansing from his old sins. ¹⁰ Wherefore, brethren, give the more diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never stumble:

¹⁸ But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him [be] the glory both now and for ever. Amen.

²² and whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do the things that are pleasing in his sight.

¹⁷ Son of man, I have made thee a watchman unto the house of Israel: therefore hear the word at my mouth, and give them warning from me.

²⁰ teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I commanded you: and lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world.

²¹ to them that are without law, as without law, not being without law to God, but under law to Christ, that I might gain them that are without law.

⁶ Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which they received of us.

¹⁰ For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, If any will not work, neither let him eat.

⁸ I delight to do thy will, O my God; yea, thy law is within my heart.

¹⁰ Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God: thy spirit is good; lead me in the land of uprightness.

²¹ Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

⁵⁰ For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, he is my brother, and sister, and mother.

¹⁹ For out of the heart come forth evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, railings:

³⁵ For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.

³⁴ Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to accomplish his work.

¹⁷ If any man willeth to do his will, he shall know of the teaching, whether it be of God, or [whether] I speak from myself.

¹⁷ Sanctify them in the truth: thy word is truth. ¹⁸ As thou didst send me into the world, even so sent I them into the world. ¹⁹ And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they themselves also may be sanctified in truth.

²⁰ but that we write unto them, that they abstain from the pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from what is strangled, and from blood.

²⁹ that ye abstain from things sacrificed to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication; from which if ye keep yourselves, it shall be well with you. Fare ye well.

³² And now I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build [you] up, and to give [you] the inheritance among all them that are sanctified.

¹⁸ to open their eyes, that they may turn from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive remission of sins and an inheritance among them that are sanctified by faith in me.

²⁹ being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malignity; whisperers,

²² But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto sanctification, and the end eternal life.

² And be not fashioned according to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

³⁰ But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who was made unto us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption:

⁹ I wrote unto you in my epistle to have no company with fornicators; ¹⁰ not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous and extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world: ¹¹ but now I write unto you not to keep company, if any man that is named a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such a one no, not to eat.

⁹ Or know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with men, ¹⁰ nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. ¹¹ And such were some of you: but ye were washed, but ye were sanctified, but ye were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and in the Spirit of our God.

¹³ Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats: but God shall bring to nought both it and them. But the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body: ¹⁴ and God both raised the Lord, and will raise up us through his power. ¹⁵ Know ye not that your bodies are members of Christ? shall I then take away the members of Christ, and make them members of a harlot? God forbid. ¹⁶ Or know ye not that he that is joined to a harlot is one body? for, The twain, saith he, shall become one flesh. ¹⁷ But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit. ¹⁸ Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.

² But, because of fornications, let each man have his own wife, and let each woman have her own husband.

²¹ lest, when I come again, my God should humble me before you, and I should mourn for many of them that have sinned heretofore, and repented not of the uncleanness and fornication and lasciviousness which they committed.

¹⁹ Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are [these], fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,

³ But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as becometh saints; ⁴ nor filthiness, nor foolish talking, or jesting, which are not befitting: but rather giving of thanks. ⁵ For this ye know of a surety, that no fornicator, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, which is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.

²⁶ that he might sanctify it, having cleansed it by the washing of water with the word, ²⁷ that he might present the church to himself a glorious [church], not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

⁶ not in the way of eyeservice, as men-pleasers; but as servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart;

⁹ For this cause we also, since the day we heard [it], do not cease to pray and make request for you, that ye may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding,

⁵ Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, the which is idolatry;

¹² Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ Jesus, saluteth you, always striving for you in his prayers, that ye may stand perfect and fully assured in all the will of God.

⁴ that each one of you know how to possess himself of his own vessel in sanctification and honour,

¹⁸ in everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus to you-ward.

²³ And the God of peace himself sanctify you wholly; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved entire, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

¹³ But we are bound to give thanks to God alway for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, for that God chose you from the beginning unto salvation in sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth: ¹⁴ who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a people for his own possession, zealous of good works.

³⁶ For ye have need of patience, that, having done the will of God, ye may receive the promise.

¹⁶ lest [there be] any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one mess of meat sold his own birthright.

⁴ [Let] marriage [be] had in honour among all, and [let] the bed [be] undefiled: for fornicators and adulterers God will judge.

²¹ make you perfect in every good thing to do his will, working in us that which is well-pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom [be] the glory for ever and ever. Amen.

² according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace be multiplied.

² that ye no longer should live the rest of your time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.

¹⁷ And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

⁸ But for the fearful, and unbelieving, and abominable, and murderers, and fornicators, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, their part [shall be] in the lake that burneth with fire and brimstone; which is the second death.

¹⁵ Without are the dogs, and the sorcerers, and the fornicators, and the murderers, and the idolaters, and every one that loveth and maketh a lie.

⁵ And David answered the priest, and said unto him, Of a truth women have been kept from us about these three days; When I came out, the vessels of the young men were holy, though it was but a common journey; how much more then today shall their vessels be holy?

¹⁵ But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles and kings, and the children of Israel:

²⁴ Wherefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts unto uncleanness, that their bodies should be dishonoured among themselves:

¹⁹ I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye presented your members [as] servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity, even so now present your members [as] servants to righteousness unto sanctification.

²¹ Or hath not the potter a right over the clay, from the same lump to make one part a vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour? ²² What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering vessels of wrath fitted unto destruction: ²³ and that he might make known the riches of his glory upon vessels of mercy, which he afore prepared unto glory,

¹ I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, [which is] your reasonable service.

¹⁵ Know ye not that your bodies are members of Christ? shall I then take away the members of Christ, and make them members of a harlot? God forbid.

¹⁸ Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. ¹⁹ Or know ye not that your body is a temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have from God? and ye are not your own; ²⁰ for ye were bought with a price: glorify God therefore in your body.

⁹ But if they have not continency, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn.

⁷ But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the exceeding greatness of the power may be of God, and not from ourselves; ⁸ Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honourable, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

²⁰ Now in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some unto honour, and some unto dishonour. ²¹ If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, meet for the master’s use, prepared unto every good work.

⁷ Ye husbands, in like manner, dwell with [your wives] according to knowledge, giving honour unto the woman, as unto the weaker vessel, as being also joint-heirs of the grace of life; to the end that your prayers be not hindered.

³² For after all these things do the Gentiles seek; for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.

³⁰ For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: but your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things.

²³ For as I passed along, and observed the objects of your worship, I found also an altar with this inscription, TO AN UNKNOWN GOD. What therefore ye worship in ignorance, this set I forth unto you.

³⁰ The times of ignorance therefore God overlooked; but now he commandeth men that they should all everywhere repent: ³¹ inasmuch as he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by the man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.

²⁶ For this cause God gave them up unto vile passions: for their women changed the natural use into that which is against nature:

²⁸ And even as they refused to have God in [their] knowledge, God gave them up unto a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not fitting;

²¹ For seeing that in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom knew not God, it was God’s good pleasure through the foolishness of the preaching to save them that believe.

³⁴ Awake up righteously, and sin not; for some have no knowledge of God: I speak [this] to move you to shame.

⁸ Howbeit at that time, not knowing God, ye were in bondage to them which by nature are no gods:

¹² that ye were at that time separate from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of the promise, having no hope and without God in the world.

¹⁷ This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye no longer walk as the Gentiles also walk, in the vanity of their mind, ¹⁸ being darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardening of their heart; ¹⁹ who being past feeling gave themselves up to lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.

⁸ in flaming fire, rendering vengeance to them that know not God, and to them that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus:

³ For the time past may suffice to have wrought the desire of the Gentiles, and to have walked in lasciviousness, lusts, winebibbings, revellings, carousings, and abominable idolatries:

¹⁵ Thou shalt not steal.

¹⁷ Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s.

¹¹ Ye shall not steal; neither shall ye deal falsely, nor lie one to another.

¹³ Thou shalt not oppress thy neighbour, nor rob him: the wages of a hired servant shall not abide with thee all night until the morning.

¹⁴ And if thou sell aught unto thy neighbour, or buy of thy neighbour’s hand, ye shall not wrong one another:

¹⁷ And ye shall not wrong one another; but thou shalt fear thy God: for I am the LORD your God.

⁷ If a man be found stealing any of his brethren of the children of Israel, and he deal with him as a slave, or sell him; then that thief shall die: so shalt thou put away the evil from the midst of thee.

¹³ Thou shalt not have in thy bag divers weights, a great and a small. ¹⁴ Thou shalt not have in thine house divers measures, a great and a small. ¹⁵ A perfect and just weight shalt thou have; a perfect and just measure shalt thou have: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. ¹⁶ For all that do such things; [even] all that do unrighteously, are an abomination unto the LORD thy God.

³⁵ Vengeance is mine, and recompence, At the time when their foot shall slide: For the day of their calamity is at hand, And the things that are to come upon them shall make haste.

³ Here I am: witness against me before the LORD, and before his anointed: whose ox have I taken? or whose ass have I taken? or whom have I defrauded? whom have I oppressed? or of whose hand have I taken a ransom to blind mine eyes therewith? and I will restore it you. ⁴ And they said, Thou hast not defrauded us, nor oppressed us, neither hast thou taken aught of any man’s hand.

¹³ If I did despise the cause of my manservant or of my maidservant, when they contended with me: ¹⁴ What then shall I do when God riseth up? and when he visiteth, what shall I answer him?

¹ O LORD, thou God to whom vengeance belongeth, thou God to whom vengeance belongeth, shine forth.

¹² I know that the LORD will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and the right of the needy.

¹ A FALSE balance is an abomination to the LORD: but a just weight is his delight.

¹¹ A just balance and scales are the LORD’S: all the weights of the bag are his work.

¹⁴ It is naught, it is naught, saith the buyer: but when he is gone his way, then he boasteth.

²³ Divers weights are an abomination to the LORD; and a false balance is not good.

²² Rob not the poor, because he is poor, neither oppress the afflicted in the gate: ²³ For the LORD will plead their cause, and despoil of life those that despoil them.

²⁴ Whoso robbeth his father or his mother, and saith, It is no transgression; the same is the companion of a destroyer.

⁸ If thou seest the oppression of the poor, and the violent taking away of judgment and justice in a province, marvel not at the matter: for one higher than the high regardeth; and there be higher than they.

²³ Thy princes are rebellious, and companions of thieves; every one loveth gifts, and followeth after rewards: they judge not the fatherless, neither doth the cause of the widow come unto them. ²⁴ Therefore saith the Lord, the LORD of hosts, the Mighty One of Israel, Ah, I will ease me of mine adversaries, and avenge me of mine enemies:

⁷ For the vineyard of the LORD of hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah his pleasant plant: and he looked for judgment, but behold oppression; for righteousness, but behold a cry.

⁴ None sueth in righteousness, and none pleadeth in truth: they trust in vanity, and speak lies; they conceive mischief, and bring forth iniquity. ⁵ They hatch basilisks’ eggs, and weave the spider’s web: he that eateth of their eggs dieth, and that which is crushed breaketh out into a viper. ⁶ Their webs shall not become garments, neither shall they cover themselves with their works: their works are works of iniquity, and the act of violence is in their hands. ⁷ Their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed innocent blood: their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity; desolation ard destruction are in their paths.

⁶ if ye oppress not the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and shed not innocent blood in this place, neither walk after other gods to your own hurt:

⁴ Take ye heed every one of his neighbour, and trust ye not in any brother: for every brother will utterly supplant, and every neighbour will go about with slanders.

¹³ Behold, therefore, I have smitten mine hand at thy dishonest gain which thou hast made, and at thy blood which hath been in the midst of thee.

⁹ Thus saith the Lord GOD: Let it suffice you, O princes of Israel: remove violence and spoil, and execute judgment and justice; take away your exactions from my people, saith the Lord GOD. ¹⁰ Ye shall have just balances, and a just ephah, and a just bath. ¹¹ The ephah and the bath shall be of one measure, that the bath may contain the tenth part of an homer, and the ephah the tenth part of an homer: the measure thereof shall be after the homer. ¹² And the shekel shall be twenty gerahs: twenty shekels, five and twenty shekels, fifteen shekels, shall be your maneh. ¹³ This is the oblation that ye shall offer; the sixth part of an ephah from an homer of wheat, and ye shall give the sixth part of an ephah from an homer of barley: ¹⁴ and the set portion of oil, of the bath of oil, shall be the tenth part of a bath out of the cor, [which is] ten baths, even an homer; for ten baths are an homer:

⁵ saying, When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell corn? and the sabbath, that we may set forth wheat? making the ephah small, and the shekel great, and dealing falsely with balances of deceit; ⁶ that we may buy the poor for silver, and the needy for a pair of shoes, and sell the refuse of the wheat.

² And they covet fields, and seize them; and houses, and take them away: and they oppress a man and his house, even a man and his heritage.

¹ Woe to her that is rebellious and polluted, to the oppressing city!

⁵ The LORD in the midst of her is righteous; he will not do iniquity; every morning doth he bring his judgment to light, he faileth not; but the unjust knoweth no shame.

⁵ And I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers; and against those that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger [from his right], and fear not me, saith the LORD of hosts.

¹⁹ Thou knowest the commandments, Do not kill, Do not commit adultery, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not defraud, Honour thy father and mother.

⁵ But I will warn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.

¹⁸ For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold down the truth in unrighteousness;

¹⁹ Avenge not yourselves, beloved, but give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance belongeth unto me; I will recompense, saith the Lord.

⁴ for he is a minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is a minister of God, an avenger for wrath to him that doeth evil.

⁷ Nay, already it is altogether a defect in you, that ye have lawsuits one with another. Why not rather take wrong? why not rather be defrauded? ⁸ Nay, but ye yourselves do wrong, and defraud, and that [your] brethren. ⁹ Or know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with men,

²¹ envyings, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I forewarn you, even as I did forewarn you, that they which practise such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

¹⁷ This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye no longer walk as the Gentiles also walk, in the vanity of their mind,

²⁸ Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing that is good, that he may have whereof to give to him that hath need.

⁶ Let no man deceive you with empty words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the sons of disobedience.

⁶ But ye have dishonoured the poor man. Do not the rich oppress you, and themselves drag you before the judgment-seats?

⁴ Behold, the hire of the labourers who mowed your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth out: and the cries of them that reaped have entered into the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth.

⁴⁴ For I am the LORD your God: sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy; for I am holy: neither shall ye defile yourselves with any manner of creeping thing that moveth upon the earth.

² Speak unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say unto them, Ye shall be holy: for I the LORD your God am holy.

⁷ To all that are in Rome, beloved of God, called [to be] saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

²⁹ For whom he foreknew, he also foreordained [to be] conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren: ³⁰ and whom he foreordained, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.

² unto the church of God which is at Corinth, [even] them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called [to be] saints, with all that call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ in every place, their [Lord] and ours:

⁴ even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blemish before him in love:

¹⁰ For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God afore prepared that we should walk in them.

¹⁹ who being past feeling gave themselves up to lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.

³ For our exhortation [is] not of error, nor of uncleanness, nor in guile:

¹³ But we are bound to give thanks to God alway for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, for that God chose you from the beginning unto salvation in sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth: ¹⁴ whereunto he called you through our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

⁹ who saved us, and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before times eternal,

¹⁴ Follow after peace with all men, and the sanctification without which no man shall see the Lord:

¹⁴ as children of obedience, not fashioning yourselves according to your former lusts in [the time of] your ignorance: ¹⁵ but like as he which called you is holy, be ye yourselves also holy in all manner of living; ¹⁶ because it is written, Ye shall be holy; for I am holy.

⁹ But ye are an elect race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for [God’s] own possession, that ye may shew forth the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light: ¹⁰ which in time past were no people, but now are the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy. ¹¹ Beloved, I beseech you as sojourners and pilgrims, to abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul; ¹² having your behaviour seemly among the Gentiles; that, wherein they speak against you as evil-doers, they may by your good works, which they behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.

²¹ For hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, that ye should follow his steps: ²² who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:

¹⁰ but chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of defilement, and despise dominion. Daring, selfwilled, they tremble not to rail at dignities:

⁷ And the LORD said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not be king over them.

¹⁹ but ye have this day rejected your God, who himself saveth you out of all your calamities and your distresses; and ye have said unto him, [Nay], but set a king over us. Now therefore present yourselves before the LORD by your tribes, and by your thousands.

³⁰ Yet many years didst thou bear with them, and testifiedst against them by thy spirit through thy prophets: yet would they not give ear: therefore gavest thou them into the hand of the peoples of the lands.

⁷ The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: [but] the foolish despise wisdom and instruction.

⁹ Speak not in the hearing of a fool; for he will despise the wisdom of thy words.

⁷ Thus saith the LORD, the redeemer of Israel, [and] his Holy One, to him whom man despiseth, to him whom the nation abhorreth, to a servant of rulers: Kings shall see and arise; princes, and they shall worship; because of the LORD that is faithful, [even] the Holy One of Israel, who hath chosen thee.

¹⁰ Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see [his] seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.

¹⁶ He that heareth you heareth me; and he that rejecteth you rejecteth me; and he that rejecteth me rejecteth him that sent me.

⁴⁸ He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my sayings, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I spake, the same shall judge him in the last day.

³ But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thy heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back [part] of the price of the land? ⁴ Whiles it remained, did it not remain thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thy power? How is it that thou hast conceived this thing in thy heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.

⁴¹ Behold, ye despisers, and wonder, and perish; For I work a work in your days, A work which ye shall in no wise believe, if one declare it unto you.

⁵ and hope putteth not to shame; because the love of God hath been shed abroad in our hearts through the Holy Ghost which was given unto us.

¹⁰ But unto us God revealed [them] through the Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.

⁴⁰ But she is happier if she abide as she is, after my judgment: and I think that I also have the Spirit of God.

⁶ And because ye are sons, God sent forth the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, Abba, Father.

¹² To whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto you, did they minister these things, which now have been announced unto you through them that preached the gospel unto you by the Holy Ghost sent forth from heaven; which things angels desire to look into.

²¹ For no prophecy ever came by the will of man: but men spake from God, being moved by the Holy Ghost.

²⁴ And he that keepeth his commandments abideth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he gave us.

⁸ Yet in like manner these also in their dreamings defile the flesh, and set at nought dominion, and rail at dignities.

⁸ but every one that eateth it shall bear his iniquity, because he hath profaned the holy thing of the LORD: and that soul shall be cut off from his people.

¹ A Song of Ascents; of David. Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!

¹³ and hast forgotten the LORD thy Maker, that stretched forth the heavens, and laid the foundations of the earth; and fearest continually all the day because of the fury of the oppressor, when he maketh ready to destroy? and where is the fury of the oppressor?

³⁴ and they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin will I remember no more.

³⁹ And a second like [unto it] is this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

⁴⁴ No man can come to me, except the Father which sent me draw him: and I will raise him up in the last day. ⁴⁵ It is written in the prophets, And they shall all be taught of God. Every one that hath heard from the Father, and hath learned, cometh unto me.

³⁴ A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another; even as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. ³⁵ By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

²⁶ But the Comforter, [even] the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said unto you.

¹² This is my commandment, that ye love one another, even as I have loved you. ¹³ Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. ¹⁴ Ye are my friends, if ye do the things which I command you. ¹⁵ No longer do I call you servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I heard from my Father I have made known unto you. ¹⁶ Ye did not choose me, but I chose you, and appointed you, that ye should go and bear fruit, and [that] your fruit should abide: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you. ¹⁷ These things I command you, that ye may love one another.

³² And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and soul: and not one [of them] said that aught of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common.

¹⁰ In love of the brethren be tenderly affectioned one to another; in honour preferring one another;

¹ Be ye therefore imitators of God, as beloved children; ² and walk in love, even as Christ also loved you, and gave himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for an odour of a sweet smell.

¹ But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that aught be written unto you.

¹⁰ For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel After those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, And on their heart also will I write them: And I will be to them a God, And they shall be to me a people: ¹¹ And they shall not teach every man his fellow-citizen, And every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: For all shall know me, From the least to the greatest of them.

¹⁶ This is the covenant that I will make with them After those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws on their heart, And upon their mind also will I write them; [then saith he],

¹ Let love of the brethren continue.

⁸ Finally, [be] ye all likeminded, compassionate, loving as brethren, tenderhearted, humbleminded:

⁸ above all things being fervent in your love among yourselves; for love covereth a multitude of sins:

⁷ and in [your] godliness love of the brethren; and in [your] love of the brethren love.

¹⁰ He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him.

²⁰ And ye have an anointing from the Holy One, and ye know all things. ²¹ I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and because no lie is of the truth. ²² Who is the liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, [even] he that denieth the Father and the Son. ²³ Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: he that confesseth the Son hath the Father also. ²⁴ As for you, let that abide in you which ye heard from the beginning. If that which ye heard from the beginning abide in you, ye also shall abide in the Son, and in the Father. ²⁵ And this is the promise which he promised us, [even] the life eternal. ²⁶ These things have I written unto you concerning them that would lead you astray. ²⁷ And as for you, the anointing which ye received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any one teach you; but as his anointing teacheth you concerning all things, and is true, and is no lie, and even as it taught you, ye abide in him.

¹¹ For this is the message which ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another:

¹⁴ We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not abideth in death. ¹⁵ Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him. ¹⁶ Hereby know we love, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. ¹⁷ But whoso hath the world’s goods, and beholdeth his brother in need, and shutteth up his compassion from him, how doth the love of God abide in him? ¹⁸ [My] little children, let us not love in word, neither with the tongue; but in deed and truth. ¹⁹ Hereby shall we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our heart before him,

²³ And this is his commandment, that we should believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, even as he gave us commandment.

⁷ Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is begotten of God, and knoweth God. ⁸ He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. ⁹ Herein was the love of God manifested in us, that God hath sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. ¹⁰ Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son [to be] the propitiation for our sins. ¹¹ Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. ¹² No man hath beheld God at any time: if we love one another, God abideth in us, and his love is perfected in us: ¹³ hereby know we that we abide in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit. ¹⁴ And we have beheld and bear witness that the Father hath sent the Son [to be] the Saviour of the world. ¹⁵ Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God abideth in him, and he in God. ¹⁶ And we know and have believed the love which God hath in us. God is love; and he that abideth in love abideth in God, and God abideth in him.

²¹ And this commandment have we from him, that he who loveth God love his brother also.

¹ Moreover, brethren, we make known to you the grace of God which hath been given in the churches of Macedonia; ² how that in much proof of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded unto the riches of their liberality.

⁸ I speak not by way of commandment, but as proving through the earnestness of others the sincerity also of your love. ⁹ For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might become rich. ¹⁰ And herein I give [my] judgment: for this is expedient for you, who were the first to make a beginning a year ago, not only to do, but also to will.

¹⁵ For this cause I also, having heard of the faith in the Lord Jesus which is among you, and which [ye shew] toward all the saints,

¹³ Brethren, I count not myself yet to have apprehended: but one thing [I do], forgetting the things which are behind, and stretching forward to the things which are before, ¹⁴ I press on toward the goal unto the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. ¹⁵ Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in anything ye are otherwise minded, even this shall God reveal unto you:

⁴ having heard of your faith in Christ Jesus, and of the love which ye have toward all the saints,

⁷ so that ye became an ensample to all that believe in Macedonia and in Achaia.

¹ Finally then, brethren, we beseech and exhort you in the Lord Jesus, that, as ye received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, even as ye do walk,—that ye abound more and more.

⁵ hearing of thy love, and of the faith which thou hast toward the Lord Jesus, and toward all the saints; ⁶ that the fellowship of thy faith may become effectual, in the knowledge of every good thing which is in you, unto Christ. ⁷ For I had much joy and comfort in thy love, because the hearts of the saints have been refreshed through thee, brother.

¹ Better is a dry morsel and quietness therewith, than an house full of feasting with strife.

⁶ Better is an handful with quietness, than two handfuls with labour and striving after wind.

²⁶ It is good that a man should hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.

³⁴ [It is] as [when] a man, sojourning in another country, having left his house, and given authority to his servants, to each one his work, commanded also the porter to watch.

⁴² And the Lord said, Who then is the faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall set over his household, to give them their portion of food in due season? ⁴³ Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.

³ and because he was of the same trade, he abode with them, and they wrought; for by their trade they were tentmakers.

³⁵ In all things I gave you an example, how that so labouring ye ought to help the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.

⁴ For even as we have many members in one body, and all the members have not the same office: ⁵ so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and severally members one of another. ⁶ And having gifts differing according to the grace that was given to us, whether prophecy, [let us prophesy] according to the proportion of our faith; ⁷ or ministry, [let us give ourselves] to our ministry; or he that teacheth, to his teaching; ⁸ or he that exhorteth, to his exhorting: he that giveth, [let him do it] with liberality; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.

¹¹ in diligence not slothful; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord;

²⁰ yea, making it my aim so to preach the gospel, not where Christ was [already] named, that I might not build upon another man’s foundation;

¹² and we toil, working with our own hands: being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we endure;

²² Servants, obey in all things them that are your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but in singleness of heart, fearing the Lord: ²³ whatsoever ye do, work heartily, as unto the Lord, and not unto men; ²⁴ knowing that from the Lord ye shall receive the recompense of the inheritance: ye serve the Lord Christ.

⁷ For yourselves know how ye ought to imitate us: for we behaved not ourselves disorderly among you; ⁸ neither did we eat bread for nought at any man’s hand, but in labour and travail, working night and day, that we might not burden any of you: ⁹ not because we have not the right, but to make ourselves an ensample unto you, that ye should imitate us.

² for kings and all that are in high place; that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and gravity.

¹³ And withal they learn also [to be] idle, going about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not.

⁴ that they may train the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, ⁵ [to be] soberminded, chaste, workers at home, kind, being in subjection to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed: ⁶ the younger men likewise exhort to be soberminded: ⁷ in all things shewing thyself an ensample of good works; in thy doctrine [shewing] uncorruptness, gravity, ⁸ sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of us. ⁹ [Exhort] servants to be in subjection to their own masters, [and] to be well-pleasing [to them] in all things; not gainsaying; ¹⁰ not purloining, but shewing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things.

¹⁴ And let our [people] also learn to maintain good works for necessary uses, that they be not unfruitful.

⁴ but [let it be] the hidden man of the heart, in the incorruptible [apparel] of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.

¹⁰ according as each hath received a gift, ministering it among yourselves, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God; ¹¹ if any man speaketh, [speaking] as it were oracles of God; if any man ministereth, [ministering] as of the strength which God supplieth: that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, whose is the glory and the dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

¹⁵ For let none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or an evil-doer, or as a meddler in other men’s matters:

¹¹ And he said unto them, Unto you is given the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all things are done in parables:

¹⁷ Render to no man evil for evil. Take thought for things honourable in the sight of all men.

¹³ Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in revelling and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and jealousy.

¹² For what have I to do with judging them that are without? Do not ye judge them that are within, ¹³ whereas them that are without God judgeth? Put away the wicked man from among yourselves.

²⁰ Avoiding this, that any man should blame us in [the matter of] this bounty which is ministered by us: ²¹ for we take thought for things honourable, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men.

⁷ Or did I commit a sin in abasing myself that ye might be exalted, because I preached to you the gospel of God for nought? ⁸ I robbed other churches, taking wages [of them] that I might minister unto you; ⁹ and when I was present with you and was in want, I was not a burden on any man; for the brethren, when they came from Macedonia, supplied the measure of my want; and in everything I kept myself from being burdensome unto you, and [so] will I keep [myself].

⁵ Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time.

²² abstain from every form of evil.

⁷ Moreover he must have good testimony from them that are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.

¹² having your behaviour seemly among the Gentiles; that, wherein they speak against you as evil-doers, they may by your good works, which they behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.

¹ In like manner, ye wives, [be] in subjection to your own husbands; that, even if any obey not the word, they may without the word be gained by the behaviour of their wives;

¹⁶ having a good conscience; that, wherein ye are spoken against, they may be put to shame who revile your good manner of life in Christ. ¹⁷ For it is better, if the will of God should so will, that ye suffer for well-doing than for evil-doing.

³⁵ And all his sons and all his daughters rose up to comfort him; but he refused to be comforted; and he said, For I will go down to the grave to my son mourning. And his father wept for him.

²⁸ Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD.

¹ Ye are the children of the LORD your God: ye shall not cut yourselves, nor make any baldness between your eyes for the dead. ² For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God, and the LORD hath chosen thee to be a peculiar people unto himself, above all peoples that are upon the face of the earth.

¹⁹ But when David saw that his servants whispered together, David perceived that the child was dead: and David said unto his servants, Is the child dead? And they said, He is dead. ²⁰ Then David arose from the earth, and washed, and anointed himself, and changed his apparel; and he came into the house of the LORD, and worshipped: then he came to his own house; and when he required they set bread before him, and he did eat.

³³ And the king was much moved, and went up to the chamber over the gate, and wept: and as he went, thus he said, O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! would God I had died for thee, O Absalom, my son, my son!

²¹ Otherwise it shall come to pass, when my lord the king shall sleep with his fathers, that I and my son Solomon shall be counted offenders.

¹⁰ And David slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David.

²¹ and he said, Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.

²⁵ But I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand up at the last upon the earth: ²⁶ And after my skin hath been thus destroyed, yet from my flesh shall I see God: ²⁷ Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another. My reins are consumed within me.

³² The wicked is thrust down in his evil-doing: but the righteous hath hope in his death.

¹⁶ Son of man, behold, I take away from thee the desire of thine eyes with a stroke: yet neither shalt thou mourn nor weep, neither shall thy tears run down. ¹⁷ Sigh, but not aloud; make no mourning for the dead, bind thy headtire upon thee, and put thy shoes upon thy feet, and cover not thy lips, and eat not the bread of men. ¹⁸ So I spake unto the people in the morning; and at even my wife died: and I did in the morning as I was commanded.

¹¹ Then he said unto me, Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel: behold, they say, Our bones are dried up, and our hope is lost; we are clean cut off.

² And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.

⁵² and the tombs were opened; and many bodies of the saints that had fallen asleep were raised;

⁵² And all were weeping, and bewailing her: but he said, Weep not; for she is not dead, but sleepeth. ⁵³ And they laughed him to scorn, knowing that she was dead.

¹¹ These things spake he: and after this he saith unto them, Our friend Lazarus is fallen asleep; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep. ¹² The disciples therefore said unto him, Lord, if he is fallen asleep, he will recover. ¹³ Now Jesus had spoken of his death: but they thought that he spake of taking rest in sleep.

²⁴ Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.

⁶⁰ And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep.

² And devout men buried Stephen, and made great lamentation over him.

³⁶ For David, after he had in his own generation served the counsel of God, fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption:

¹³ And I would not have you ignorant, brethren, that oftentimes I purposed to come unto you (and was hindered hitherto), that I might have some fruit in you also, even as in the rest of the Gentiles.

¹ For I would not, brethren, have you ignorant, how that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;

¹ Now concerning spiritual [gifts], brethren, I would not have you ignorant.

⁶ then he appeared to above five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain until now, but some are fallen asleep;

¹⁸ Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ have perished. ¹⁹ If in this life only we have hoped in Christ, we are of all men most pitiable.

⁸ For we would not have you ignorant, brethren, concerning our affliction which befell [us] in Asia, that we were weighed down exceedingly, beyond our power, insomuch that we despaired even of life:

¹⁵ For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we that are alive, that are left unto the coming of the Lord, shall in no wise precede them that are fallen asleep.

¹⁰ who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.

⁴ and saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for, from the day that the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

⁸ But forget not this one thing, beloved, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

¹⁹ Gad, a troop shall press upon him: But he shall press upon their heel.

¹⁹ Thy dead shall live; my dead bodies shall arise. Awake and sing, ye that dwell in the dust: for thy dew is [as] the dew of herbs, and the earth shall cast forth the dead.

¹⁵ And so shall be the plague of the horse, of the mule, of the camel, and of the ass, and of all the beasts that shall be in those camps, as this plague.

³¹ And he shall send forth his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

¹¹ But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwelleth in you, he that raised up Christ Jesus from the dead shall quicken also your mortal bodies through his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

¹² Now if Christ is preached that he hath been raised from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead? ¹³ But if there is no resurrection of the dead, neither hath Christ been raised: ¹⁴ and if Christ hath not been raised, then is our preaching vain, your faith also is vain. ¹⁵ Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we witnessed of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead are not raised. ¹⁶ For if the dead are not raised, neither hath Christ been raised: ¹⁷ and if Christ hath not been raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins. ¹⁸ Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ have perished. ¹⁹ If in this life only we have hoped in Christ, we are of all men most pitiable. ²⁰ But now hath Christ been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of them that are asleep. ²¹ For since by man [came] death, by man [came] also the resurrection of the dead. ²² For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive. ²³ But each in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; then they that are Christ’s, at his coming.

¹³ But having the same spirit of faith, according to that which is written, I believed, and therefore did I speak; we also believe, and therefore also we speak; ¹⁴ knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also with Jesus, and shall present us with you.

²⁰ For our citizenship is in heaven; from whence also we wait for a Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: ²¹ who shall fashion anew the body of our humiliation, [that it may be] conformed to the body of his glory, according to the working whereby he is able even to subject all things unto himself.

¹³ to the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before our God and Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints.

¹³ But we would not have you ignorant, brethren, concerning them that fall asleep; that ye sorrow not, even as the rest, which have no hope.

¹⁷ then we that are alive, that are left, shall together with them be caught up in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

¹⁴ And to these also Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied, saying, Behold, the Lord came with ten thousands of his holy ones, ¹⁵ to execute judgment upon all, and to convict all the ungodly of all their works of ungodliness which they have ungodly wrought, and of all the hard things which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.

¹⁸ and the Living one; and I was dead, and behold, I am alive for evermore, and I have the keys of death and of Hades.

¹³ And I heard a voice from heaven saying, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; for their works follow with them.

¹ And, behold, there came a man of God out of Judah by the word of the LORD unto Beth-el: and Jeroboam was standing by the altar to burn incense.

⁹ for so was it charged me by the word of the LORD, saying, Thou shalt eat no bread, nor drink water, neither return by the way that thou camest.

¹⁷ for it was said to me by the word of the LORD, Thou shalt eat no bread nor drink water there, nor turn again to go by the way that thou camest. ¹⁸ And he said unto him, I also am a prophet as thou art; and an angel spake unto me by the word of the LORD, saying, Bring him back with thee into thine house, that he may eat bread and drink water. [But] he lied unto him.

²² but camest back, and hast eaten bread and drunk water in the place of the which he said to thee, Eat no bread, and drink no water; thy carcase shall not come unto the sepulchre of thy fathers.

³⁵ And a certain man of the sons of the prophets said unto his fellow by the word of the LORD, Smite me, I pray thee. And the man refused to smite him.

¹⁴ And Micaiah said, As the LORD liveth, what the LORD saith unto me, that will I speak.

¹¹ Who hath first given unto me, that I should repay him? [whatsoever is] under the whole heaven is mine.

¹³ But unto thee, O LORD, have I cried, and in the morning shall my prayer come before thee.

¹⁴⁷ I prevented the dawning of the morning, and cried: I hoped in thy words. ¹⁴⁸ Mine eyes prevented the night watches, that I might meditate in thy word.

²⁵ He saith, Yea. And when he came into the house, Jesus spake first to him, saying, What thinkest thou, Simon? the kings of the earth, from whom do they receive toll or tribute? from their sons, or from strangers?

⁵¹ Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, ⁵² in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. ⁵³ For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

¹⁴ knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also with Jesus, and shall present us with you.

¹⁹ For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of glorying? Are not even ye, before our Lord Jesus at his coming?

¹⁶ And it came to pass on the third day, when it was morning, that there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of a trumpet exceeding loud; and all the people that were in the camp trembled.

¹⁸ And all the people saw the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the voice of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they trembled, and stood afar off.

²¹ He hath not beheld iniquity in Jacob, Neither hath he seen perverseness in Israel: The LORD his God is with him, And the shout of a king is among them.

¹ For the Chief Musician; a Psalm of the sons of Korah. O clap your hands, all ye peoples; shout unto God with the voice of triumph.

⁵ God is gone up with a shout, the LORD with the sound of a trumpet.

⁸ He hath swallowed up death for ever; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from off all faces; and the reproach of his people shall he take away from off all the earth: for the LORD hath spoken it. ⁹ And it shall be said in that day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him, and he will save us: this is the LORD; we have waited for him, we will be glad and rejoice in his salvation.

¹³ And it shall come to pass in that day, that a great trumpet shall be blown; and they shall come which were ready to perish in the land of Assyria, and they that were outcasts in the land of Egypt; and they shall worship the LORD in the holy mountain at Jerusalem.

¹¹ And the LORD uttereth his voice before his army; for his camp is very great; for he is strong that executeth his word: for the day of the LORD is great and very terrible; and who can abide it?

⁷ Who art thou, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel [thou shalt become] a plain: and he shall bring forth the head stone with shoutings of Grace, grace, unto it.

⁹ Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy king cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, even upon a colt the foal of an ass.

¹⁴ And the LORD shall be seen over them, and his arrow shall go forth as the lightning: and the Lord GOD shall blow the trumpet, and shall go with whirlwinds of the south.

²⁷ For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then shall he render unto every man according to his deeds.

³⁰ and then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. ³¹ And he shall send forth his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

³¹ But when the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the angels with him, then shall he sit on the throne of his glory:

⁶⁴ Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Henceforth ye shall see the Son of man sitting at the right hand of power, and coming on the clouds of heaven.

¹¹ which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye looking into heaven? this Jesus, which was received up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye beheld him going into heaven.

²³ But each in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; then they that are Christ’s, at his coming.

⁵¹ Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, ⁵² in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

⁷ and to you that are afflicted rest with us, at the revelation of the Lord Jesus from heaven with the angels of his power

¹⁰ But the day of the Lord will come as a thief; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall be dissolved with fervent heat, and the earth and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

⁹ But Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing judgment, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.

⁷ Behold, he cometh with the clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they which pierced him; and all the tribes of the earth shall mourn over him. Even so, Amen.

¹⁰ I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day, and I heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet

¹³ And I saw, and I heard an eagle, flying in mid heaven, saying with a great voice, Woe, woe, woe, for them that dwell on the earth, by reason of the other voices of the trumpet of the three angels, who are yet to sound.

⁵ The rest of the dead lived not until the thousand years should be finished. This is the first resurrection. ⁶ Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: over these the second death hath no power; but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.

¹² And it shall come to pass, as soon as I am gone from thee, that the spirit of the LORD shall carry thee whither I know not; and so when I come and tell Ahab, and he cannot find thee, he shall slay me: but I thy servant fear the LORD from my youth.

¹¹ And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, [there appeared] a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, which parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.

¹⁶ And they said unto him, Behold now, there be with thy servants fifty strong men; let them go, we pray thee, and seek thy master: lest peradventure the spirit of the LORD hath taken him up, and cast him upon some mountain, or into some valley. And he said, Ye shall not send.

¹¹ Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; in thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

¹⁵ As for me, I shall behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness.

¹⁵ But God will redeem my soul from the power of Sheol: for he shall receive me. Selah

²⁴ Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.

¹⁰ and the ransomed of the LORD shall return, and come with singing unto Zion; and everlasting joy shall be upon their heads: they shall obtain gladness and joy, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.

¹⁹ The sun shall be no more thy light by day; neither for brightness shall the moon give light unto thee: but the LORD shall be unto thee an everlasting light, and thy God thy glory. ²⁰ Thy sun shall no more go down, neither shall thy moon withdraw itself: for the LORD shall be thine everlasting light, and the days of thy mourning shall be ended.

¹³ I saw in the night visions, and, behold, there came with the clouds of heaven one like unto a son of man, and he came even to the ancient of days, and they brought him near before him.

⁶² And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting at the right hand of power, and coming with the clouds of heaven.

²⁶ If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will the Father honour.

³ And if I go and prepare a place for you, I come again, and will receive you unto myself; that where I am, [there] ye may be also.

²⁴ Father, that which thou hast given me, I will that, where I am, they also may be with me; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.

⁹ And when he had said these things, as they were looking, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.

³⁹ And when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip; and the eunuch saw him no more, for he went on his way rejoicing.

⁵² in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

⁸ we are of good courage, I say, and are willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be at home with the Lord.

² I know a man in Christ, fourteen years ago (whether in the body, I know not; or whether out of the body, I know not; God knoweth), such a one caught up even to the third heaven. ³ And I know such a man (whether in the body, or apart from the body, I know not; God knoweth), ⁴ how that he was caught up into Paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.

²³ But I am in a strait betwixt the two, having the desire to depart and be with Christ; for it is very far better:

¹³ But, according to his promise, we look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

¹⁴ And I say unto him, My lord, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which come out of the great tribulation, and they washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. ¹⁵ Therefore are they before the throne of God; and they serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sitteth on the throne shall spread his tabernacle over them. ¹⁶ They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun strike upon them, nor any heat: ¹⁷ for the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall be their shepherd, and shall guide them unto fountains of waters of life: and God shall wipe away every tear from their eyes.

¹² And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither. And they went up into heaven in the cloud; and their enemies beheld them.

⁵ And she was delivered of a son, a man child, who is to rule all the nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and unto his throne.

³ And I heard a great voice out of the throne saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he shall dwell with them, and they shall be his peoples, and God himself shall be with them, [and be] their God: ⁴ and he shall wipe away every tear from their eyes; and death shall be no more; neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain, any more: the first things are passed away. ⁵ And he that sitteth on the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he saith, Write: for these words are faithful and true. ⁶ And he said unto me, They are come to pass. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. ⁷ He that overcometh shall inherit these things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.

²² And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God the Almighty, and the Lamb, are the temple thereof. ²³ And the city hath no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine upon it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the lamp thereof [is] the Lamb.

³ And there shall be no curse any more: and the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be therein: and his servants shall do him service; ⁴ and they shall see his face; and his name [shall be] on their foreheads. ⁵ And there shall be night no more; and they need no light of lamp, neither light of sun; for the Lord God shall give them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.

¹ Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God. ² Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned; that she hath received of the LORD’S hand double for all her sins.

²⁸ But when these things begin to come to pass, look up, and lift up your heads; because your redemption draweth nigh.

¹¹ Wherefore exhort one another, and build each other up, even as also ye do.

¹⁴ And we exhort you, brethren, admonish the disorderly, encourage the fainthearted, support the weak, be longsuffering toward all.

²⁴ and let us consider one another to provoke unto love and good works; ²⁵ not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the custom of some is, but exhorting [one another]; and so much the more, as ye see the day drawing nigh.

¹² Wherefore lift up the hands that hang down, and the palsied knees;
