¹ A Psalm of Asaph. ¶ O God, the Gentiles are come into thine inheritance; they have defiled the temple of thy holiness; they have laid Jerusalem on heaps.

¹⁷ Thou shalt bring them in and plant them in the mountain of thine inheritance, in the place of thy dwelling which thou hast made ready, O LORD, in the Sanctuary of the Lord, which thy hands have established.

¹² therefore, thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Behold, I am bringing such evil upon Jerusalem and Judah, that whoever hears of it, both his ears shall tingle. ¹³ And I will stretch over Jerusalem the line of Samaria and the plummet of the house of Ahab; and I will wipe Jerusalem as a man wipes a dish, wiping it and turning it upside down. ¹⁴ And I will forsake the remnant of my inheritance and deliver them into the hand of their enemies, and they shall become a prey and a spoil to all their enemies ¹⁵ because they have done that which was evil in my sight and have provoked me to anger since the day their fathers came forth out of Egypt, even unto this day. ¹⁶ Moreover, Manasseh shed innocent blood very much until he had filled Jerusalem from one end to another besides his sin with which he made Judah sin so that they would do that which was evil in the sight of the LORD.

¹³ And he carried out of there all the treasures of the house of the LORD and the treasures of the king’s house and cut in pieces all the vessels of gold which Solomon, king of Israel, had made in the temple of the LORD, as the LORD had said.

⁴ And the city was broken up, and all the men of war fled by night by the way of the gate between the two walls, which is by the king’s garden, with the Chaldees round about the city; and they went by the way of the plain. ⁵ And the army of the Chaldees pursued after the king and overtook him in the plains of Jericho, after all his army had been scattered from him. ⁶ So they took the king and brought him up to the king of Babylon to Riblah, and they sentenced him. ⁷ And they slew the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes and put out the eyes of Zedekiah and bound him with fetters of brass and carried him to Babylon. ⁸ ¶ And in the fifth month, on the seventh of the month, which was the year nineteen of King Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, Nebuzaradan, captain of the guard, a slave of the king of Babylon, came to Jerusalem. ⁹ And he burnt the house of the LORD and the king’s house and all the houses of Jerusalem, and every great man’s house he burnt with fire. ¹⁰ And all the army of the Chaldees, that were with the captain of the guard, broke down the walls of Jerusalem round about.

³ And the king of Egypt put him down at Jerusalem and condemned the land in one hundred talents of silver and a talent of gold. ⁴ And the king of Egypt made Eliakim, his brother, king over Judah and Jerusalem and changed his name to Jehoiakim. And Necho took Jehoahaz, his brother, and carried him to Egypt.

⁶ And Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, came up against him and bound him with fetters of brass; he carried him to Babylon. ⁷ Nebuchadnezzar also carried of the vessels of the house of the LORD to Babylon and put them in his temple at Babylon.

¹⁷ Therefore, he brought upon them the king of the Chaldees, who slew their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary and had no compassion upon young man or maiden, old man, or him that stooped for age; he gave them all into his hands.

¹⁹ And they burnt the house of God and broke down the wall of Jerusalem and burnt all its palaces with fire and destroyed all its desirable vessels.

¹ Maschil of Asaph. ¶ O God, why hast thou cast us off for ever? Why does thine anger smoke against the sheep of thy pasture? ² Remember thy congregation, which thou hast purchased of old; the rod of thine inheritance, which thou hast redeemed, this Mount Zion, in which thou hast dwelt. ³ Lift up thy feet unto the eternal desolations, unto every enemy who has done wickedly in the sanctuary. ⁴ Thine enemies have roared in the midst of thy assemblies; they set up their own banners for signs.

⁷ They have set fire to thy sanctuaries; they have defiled the tabernacle of thy name in the earth. ⁸ They said in their hearts, Let us destroy them at once; they have burned up all the meeting places of the people of God in the earth.

⁷¹ from following the ewes great with young, he brought him to feed Jacob his people and Israel his inheritance.

¹² Why hast thou then broken down her hedges, so that all those who pass by the way pluck her? ¹³ The boar out of the wood wastes it, and the wild beast of the field devours it.

⁶ I was wroth with my people; I have profaned my inheritance and given them into thine hand; thou didst show them no mercy; upon the ancient thou hast very heavily laid thy yoke.

¹⁸ Micah the Morasthite prophesied in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah and spoke to all the people of Judah, saying, Thus hath the LORD of the hosts said; Zion shall be plowed like a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the temple mount as the high places of a forest.

⁸ And the Chaldeans burned the king’s house and the houses of the people with fire and broke down the walls of Jerusalem.

¹³ and burned the house of the LORD and the king’s house and all the houses of Jerusalem, and every great house he burned with fire:

¹⁰ Jod The enemy has spread out his hand upon all her precious things, and she saw the Gentiles enter into her sanctuary, whom thou didst command that they should not enter into thy congregation.

²⁰ Because they turned the glory of his ornament into pride and made in her the images of their abominations of their statues; therefore I have set it far from them. ²¹ And I gave it into the hands of the strangers for a prey and to the wicked of the earth for a spoil; and they shall pollute it.

⁷ And he said unto them, Defile the house and fill the courts with the slain; go forth. And they went forth and slew in the city.

¹² Therefore for your sake Zion shall be plowed as a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps of ruins and the mountain of the house as the high places of the forest.

²⁴ And they shall fall by the edge of the sword and shall be led away captive into all nations, and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.

² But leave out the court which is within the temple and measure it not, for it is given unto the Gentiles, and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty-two months.
