¹ ¶ Why do the Gentiles rage, and the peoples imagine a vain thing?

⁴² Then I beat them as small as the dust before the wind: I scattered them as the dirt in the streets.

¹¹ For they intended evil against thee; they imagined a wicked device, but they did not prevail.

⁶ ¶ The Gentiles raged, the kingdoms were moved; he uttered his voice, the earth melted.

⁴ They have said, Come and let us cut them off from being a people that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance. ⁵ Therefore they have consulted together with one consent; they are confederate against thee: ⁶ The tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites; of Moab and the Hagarenes; ⁷ Gebal and Ammon and Amalek; Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre; ⁸ Assur also is joined with them: they are an arm unto the sons of Lot. Selah.

⁹ ¶ Associate yourselves, O ye people, and ye shall be broken in pieces; and give ear, all ye of far countries, prepare yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces; gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces.

³⁸ But when the husbandmen saw the son, they said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and let us take his inheritance.

³² For he shall be delivered unto the Gentiles and shall be mocked and spitefully treated and spitted on;

¹ ¶ Now the feast of unleavened bread drew near, which is called the Passover. ² And the princes of the priests and scribes sought how they might kill him, but they feared the people.

⁵ And they were glad and covenanted to give him money.

²² And truly the Son of man goes as it was determined; but woe unto that man by whom he is betrayed! ²³ And they began to enquire among themselves, which of them it was that should do this thing.

⁴⁹ And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all ⁵⁰ nor consider that it is expedient for us that one man should die for the people, and not that the whole nation be lost.

²⁵ who (in the Holy Spirit) by the mouth of thy servant David (our father) hast said, Why did the Gentiles rage, and the peoples imagine vain things? ²⁶ The kings of the earth were present, and the princes were gathered together against the Lord and against his Christ.

³³ When they heard that, they were divided and took counsel to slay them.

²² And the multitude rose up together against them, and the magistrates rent off their clothes and commanded to beat them.

⁵ But the disobedient Jews, moved with envy, took unto them certain lewd fellows of the baser sort and gathered a company and set all the city on an uproar and assaulted the house of Jason and sought to bring them out to the people. ⁶ And when they did not find them, they brought Jason and certain brethren unto the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down have come here also,

²⁸ And when they heard these sayings, they were full of wrath and cried out, saying, Great is Diana of the Ephesians. ²⁹ And the whole city was filled with confusion, and having caught Gaius and Aristarchus, men of Macedonia, Paul’s companions in travel, they rushed with one accord into the theatre. ³⁰ And when Paul would have entered in unto the people, the disciples suffered him not. ³¹ And certain of the chief persons of Asia, who were his friends, sent unto him, asking him that he not present himself in the theatre. ³² Some therefore cried one thing, and some another, for the assembly was confused; and most of them did not know why they were come together.

¹⁴ ¶ These shall make war against the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them; for he is Lord of lords and King of kings; and those that are with him are called and chosen and faithful.
